Mariah Carey's tribute to George Michael

OHMYGOSSIP — Mariah Carey honoured George Michael at her concert in Dubai on Friday (31.03.17).
The ‘Hero’ hitmaker paid a heartfelt tribute to the late singer – whose funeral took place last week, three months after he was found dead from natural causes on Christmas Day (25.12.16) – with a cover of his 1987 ballad ‘One More Try’, which she described as “one of his greatest records”.
She told her audience: “I always loved it, I always loved him. He was a really great person.”
The 47-year-old singer asked the crowd to use their phones to shine lights in honour of George, and sighed before she said: “We’ll make it through this.”
Mariah shared a video of the performance on Facebook, describing it as her “heartfelt tribute”.
She captioned the video: “We miss you, George Michael.”
This isn’t the first time Mariah has honoured one of her heroes at a concert.
Shortly after Prince died from a Fentanyl overdose last April, she asked her audience in Paris for a moment of silence to reflect on the ‘Purple Rain’ hitmaker.
She said: “He was a friend to me too and he talked me through some times I really, really needed somebody … he was an incredible person if you didn’t ever get to meet him and I’m sure his music touched every single person in here. So, let’s have a moment of silence for Prince if we could please …
“It’s a very sad day but we remember the life of somebody who will always be treasured … It’s such a loss that he’s gone. I’ll never get over it.”

One Direction had 24m expenses

OHMYGOSSIP — One Direction spent a staggering £24.3 million in the year before they went on hiatus.
The ‘History’ group – which includes Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Liam Payne – splurged £46,321 on personal styling, £801,163 on travel and meals, and £150,034 on office admin, accounts filed for 1D Media in 2015 show.
The bulk of the group’s expenses were the £10.7 million cost of their ‘On the Road Again’ world tour, but other spending included £9,967 on bank charges, £814,001 on legal matters, £258,625 on crew costs and £97,065 on insurance.
However, despite their vast expenses, the company recorded a £30.6 million profit, with the group, along with former member Zayn Malik, picking up £561,872 in directors’ salaries.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “If you’re going to be part of a musical juggernaut such as One Direction that makes £63million before tax then you’re inevitably going to incur a few expenses along the way.
“But it’s fascinating to see just how and where the money was being distributed.
“The next accounts will be for the first year the band didn’t release any new music, so profits will inevitably be down. But so will hairstyling costs.”
The ‘Night Changes’ singers all resigned as directors of 1D Media in April 2016, and each of them made a huge £14 million from selling 10 shares in the company.
Since going on hiatus, the quartet have been working on solo projects, and Harry Styles revealed last week he will be releasing his debut single, ‘Sign of the Times’, on April 7.
He wrote on Twitter: “SIGN.OF.THE.TIMES // 7.APRIL.17 // (sic)”
And someone who has already heard the track is Union J’s Josh Cuthbert and he said it will “block your socks off”.
He said: “Harry Styles’s new music is gonna blow your socks off !! X (sic)”
Harry previously teased his solo music with a teaser video that was broadcasted in advert breaks during ‘The Voice’ on ITV last weekend.
The short clip showed the star, soaking wet, walking across a dark room and towards a door bathed in light. Piano music played in the background before the date “April 7” flashed up on the screen at the end.

Jay Kay admits it's 'good to be back' at Jamiroquai's Roundhouse concert

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamiroquai singer Jay Kay declared it was “good to be back” as the band played their first UK concert for six years at The Roundhouse in London on Friday night (31.03.17).
The flamboyant 47-year-old frontman stepped on stage to a rapturous reception from his adoring fans wearing LED headgear blinking with multi-coloured lights and kicked off the evening’s funk proceedings with new songs ‘Shake it On’ – which morphed into ‘Little L’ – and ‘Automaton’ from the group’s eighth album of the same name.
In between tracks Jay took a pause to drink in the moment and said: “Thank you! It’s good to be back, back on home turf.”
The band then gave fans the classics ‘The Kids’ and ‘Space Cowboy’ and proceeded to get the entire Roundhouse dancing.

The band delighted fans with a host of classic tracks from their backcatalogue including ‘White Knuckle Ride’, ‘Cosmic Girl’ and ‘Mr. Moon’.
They closed with ‘Canned Heat’ and ‘Love Foolosophy’ which saw the entire Roundhouse dancing to Jamiroquai’s unique brand of disco-tinged funk and acid jazz.
The concert was the hottest ticket in town and ‘Star Trek’ actor Simon Pegg was in the audience but despite being surrounded by dancing revellers he resisted the urge to get his groove on.

Luke Bryan: 'Brother's death helped me focus on success'

OHMYGOSSIP — Luke Bryan says the death of his brother helped him to chase his dreams.
The 40-year-old singer’s sibling Chris died in a car accident in 1996, when Luke was just 19, and he admitted it helped to focus his desire for success.
Speaking on NBC’s ‘Sunday TODAY With Willie Geist’, he said: “When Chris passed away I was 19 years old, fixing to chase my dream and it just totally rocked our family’s world, rocked my world.
“It makes you appreciate chasing dreams, you know. You’re like, hey you get one go-round at this thing called life and it’s very fragile, so you better go after your dreams.”
Meanwhile, Luke recently performed the US national anthem at the 2017 Super Bowl and called it a huge honour.
Speaking before the performance, he explained: “I said, ‘Hell yes, I’ll do it!’ Is the anthem challenging? Yes. Is it nerve-wracking? Yes. But I moved to Nashville to follow my dreams and singing the national anthem on that stage doesn’t get any bigger … I feel like this is my way of honouring my country. It’s a little chance to serve.”
In 2012, he performed the anthem at the event but was forced to apologise after complaints came in thick and fast after he had lyrics from the song written on his hand.
In his apology five years ago, Luke insisted that only needed “key words” scribbled down as reminders and that he was honoured to have been chosen to sing the song.
He wrote on Twitter: “I had a few key words written down to insure myself that I wouldn’t mess up. I just wanted to do my best. I promise it was from the heart. If I offended anyone with my approach I sincerely apologize … Anytime I sing the anthem it is an honor and my heart beats out of my chest (sic)”

Glastonbury to remain at Worthy Farm

OHMYGOSSIP — Glastonbury will remain at Worthy Farm in Somerset.
Despite speculation about the annual music extravaganza’s future at its current location, founder Michael Eavis’ daughter Emily Eavis has confirmed that the festival will not be moving.
She told BBC 6 Music: “Glastonbury will always be here at Worthy Farm. We have just signed a 17-year contract with one of our neighbouring farmers, so it’s very much as solid as it can be here at Worthy Farm.
“Glastonbury Festival will always be here and hopefully we can keep it going. We’ve managed to keep it going for this long so hopefully we can keep it going a bit longer.”
Although Michael previously claimed the festival would move and its name would be changed to Variety Bazaar, Emily clarified that they are working on a sister festival which will have the new name.
She explained: “We are going to do another festival at some point called the Variety Bazaar which is going to be something different – it’s the same team, but a different idea, a smaller thing, maybe. It’s still in discussion.
“But Glastonbury Festival will always be here and hopefully we can keep it going. We’ve managed to keep it going for this long so hopefully we can keep it going a bit longer.”
This year, Ed Sheeran, Foo Fighters and Radiohead are headlining the festival.
Katy Perry, Stormzy, Bee Gees legend Barry Gibb, The xx, Royal Blood, Biffy Clyro, The National, Chic, Major Lazer, Lorde, The Jacksons, The Flaming Lips, Emeli Sande, Halsey, George Ezra and Kaiser Chiefs are also on the line-up.

Black Eyed Peas in finishing stages of new LP

OHMYGOSSIP — The Black Eyed Peas were working until 3am putting finishing touches to their new album on Thursday night (30.03.17).
will.i.am stayed up with his bandmates – including apl.de.ap and Taboo – in his studio in the early hours doing the record alongside preparing for the release of their Marvel Comics graphic novel.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘This Morning’ on Friday (31.03.17) afternoon, he said: “We are working on finishing a new record. New Black Eyed Peas material. We just announced our partnership with Marvel.
“Black Eyed Peas, we created a graphic novel that Marvel will be distributing.
“So our album is adding extra gravitas to our novel.”
The ‘I Gotta Feeling’ hitmaker recently teased that he is also working on an “exciting” new project with his band.
They are gearing up for the group’s musical comeback – following their hiatus in 2011 – they have major plans in place with a team of 50 people putting their heads together for the creative masterpiece, which will feature a lot of “tech”, and is expected to arrive in the summer.
He shared: “I don’t want to say the word album because that just dates you, but we’re doing a new project. It’s really exciting.
“It’s the best time to be creative right now with all the tools and folks doing what’s best for themselves and creating in different mediums.
“I’m staying very vague but I’m so excited about the stuff we’re going to do this year.
“And I love tech, so it’s going to be jam-packed with some awesome f***ing tech.”
And someone who could be featuring on the project is Nicole Scherzinger – who was originally supposed to front the band in the early 2000s before Fergie joined the group – and has reportedly written a song with them.
A source previously said: “Nicole met all four band members and was laying down vocals until the early hours. She was singing about ‘feeling the fire’ and ‘wanting her way like a holiday’.
“Taboo and APL went into the recording booth to do their bit first, then Will and Nicole went in before she went back in with Fergie.
“It was a very different direction for Nic compared to the sloppy ballads on her last two album flops.”

The Kooks Luke Pritchard's advice for One Direction

OHMYGOSSIP — The Kooks’ Luke Pritchard has advised One Direction to get back together no matter what.
The ‘Naive’ hitmaker went through turbulent times with his bandmate Hugh Harris, but he says nothing was worth breaking up the whole group up, and as long as ‘History’ hitmakers – Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne – “love” what they are doing he sees no reason for them to call it a day.
The 32-year-old rocker told the Daily Star newspaper: “It is tough, perseverance and loving what you do gets you through.
“There were times when me and Hugh Harris couldn’t even be in a room together but even then there was never a though of: ‘Well let’s finish it.’
“As long as it’s not about a girl or money you can usually get through it.”
The Kooks – completed by Peter Denton and Alexis Nunez – last released new music in 2015, and have announced brand new single ‘Be Who You Are’ and a greatest hits LP titled ‘Best Of… So Far’, which is out on May 19th via Virgin EMI Records.
Speaking about their journey to now, Luke said: “It’s been the greatest pleasure to work, travel, fight, hate and love the best and most talented people I’ve met in my life. It’s the greatest job in the world and we don’t intend to stop any time soon.”

Paul Weller's advice for Blossoms

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Weller told Blossoms to never “stop writing songs”.
The Modfather let the ‘Charlemagne’ rockers support them for three shows in Ireland and he told the rising indie rock group’s frontman, Tom Ogden, the best thing he can do is to be constantly thinking about the next song.
Speaking about the former Jam frontman’s advice, Ogden told Pete Donaldson on Absolute Radio, he said: “We did three gigs with him in Ireland. He watched us every night. I liked that.”
Asked what his tip was, Tom added: “Keep writing songs, don’t stop writing songs is what he said.”
The ‘Honey Sweet’ hitmakers – completed by Charlie Salt, Josh Dewhurst, Joe Donovan and Myles Kellock – previously said they want to be as huge as Oasis and that Liam and Noel Gallagher have taught them to think big as a band.
They cite the legendary Manchester group as one of their biggest influences and they have an infinity with the rock ‘n’ roll siblings because they are from nearby Stockport in England.
As much as Liam and Noel’s music has had an impact of their songwriting, the boys also have taken a lot from the pair’s confidence – with Noel making statements such as “we’re not arrogant, we just believe we’re the best band in the world” – and learned that they should aim to be as successful as possible and try and take their songs around the world.
Tom – whose first concert was watching Oasis play a massive open air show at Manchester’s Heaton Park – previously said: “Oasis come from a similar area to us: Burnage is about is about six bus stops away from Stockport on the way to Manchester. We’ve grown up listening to their attitudes, what they say about there being no limit. I’ve never understood wanting to be an underground band. I just want to write big choruses and be massive.”

Liam Gallagher pinches Pete Doherty's bassist

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher has swiped Pete Doherty’s bassist.
The former Oasis frontman is in rehearsals for his forthcoming solo shows and The Libertines frontman is stressing out as Drew McConnell has left the band in the lurch to join Liam, 44, on the road.
According to the Daily Star, Pete, 38, said: “Stressification on the band front, Drew playing bass guitar for Liam Gallagher’s new tour.”
The pair – who have been at loggerheads for years – have another mutual person in common as they both have children by 90s indie rocker Lisa Moorish.
The ‘Live Forever’ hitmaker has 19-year-old daughter Molly with the former Kill City singer and Pete has 13-year-old son Astile.
Lisa previously said that Pete is a better father to Liam’s daughter than he is.
Speaking in 2009, when Oasis split up after Liam’s older sibling and rival Noel, 49, quit the band after a backstage bust-up, Lisa said: “Pete’s a very good father. He wasn’t very hands-on when Astile was younger but now he’s very involved. We do a lot of things together: long walks, trips to football, to the pub to play pool with the children.
“He is very much his father and Molly has a great relationship with him too. He told her, ‘I’m your stepdad and there for you.’ I love him for that. She feels security from him, which is nice as, emotionally, she doesn’t get that from her own dad.”
Liam and Pete have feuded several times over the years, one of the most notable though was At V Festival in 2005.
Liam labelled the Babyshambles star “one big c***” on stage after he didn’t turn up for his support slot with Oasis at the Rose Bowl in Southampton, South West England.
He said on stage at the event held in Chelmsford, Essex: “It’s good to see Pete Doherty turned up. One big c***.”

Tinie Tempah's taxidermy inspiration

OHMYGOSSIP — Tinie Tempah’s new album ‘Youth’ was inspired by taxidermy.
The 28-year-old musician lives in an East London home that belonged to the late fashion designer Alexander McQueen who died in 2010 and has revealed his collection of stuffed animals have helped with his creativity for his forthcoming record ‘Youth’.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: “The giraffe was already there, but I bought a zebra, which is my favourite animal, so that the giraffe could have a friend in the house.
“I’m not going to lie because I get some weird vibes in there, but it’s positive and I think it’s added and contributed to my creativity.”
The ‘Pass Out’ hitmaker previously said he always used to look out over Greenwich and tell himself his career would flourish and he would own all of the South East London area.
Speaking about his motivation, he said: “I’d look at it, and say to myself ‘One day, I’ll have all of this.’
“It sounds weird, but I felt this certainty.”
However, Tinie would never want to be involved in a scandal to help boost his fame, and would rather take his time building a successful career.
He added: “There’s a level of scandal that makes you more famous.
“Those are the people who are talked about, who break the internet. Bur form I guess it’s a tortoise and hare race.”

Aerosmith feel 'lucky' the band is still going strong

OHMYGOSSIP — Aerosmith’s Joe Perry believes there is something unique about being in a band for a “long f**king time”.
The American rock band, which is comprised of Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer, have boasted a successful career spanning almost 50 years and, although they have claimed it has been a “lot of work” to stay together, the group think they are “really lucky” to have been able to continue making music regardless of any bad periods they have endured.
Speaking to Billboard about their longevity, the 66-year-old lead guitarist said: “[50 years] that’s a long f***ing time, man. I mean, it’s been a lot of work keeping it together and it’s easy to see how bands don’t last; it’s just life. Part of it you can control – if everybody has the same goals, you work towards it through the rough spots and all that. And then there’s the stuff that happens that you don’t have control over and we’ve just been really lucky.
“There are just so many things that can go wrong to tear a band apart. We’ve seen it all. The band’s had its periods where it hasn’t been that great, but there’s something about that dream that we always had when we first got together and we’re still all here, we’re taking it day-by-day.
“There’s something about a band that’s been together for a long time, you just can’t bottle it. There’s no way you can replace what all this experience gives you.”
Although the band are fast approaching their half a century milestone, the musician doesn’t feel “worn out, tired” or “jaded” being part of the band.
He said: “It’s a long time, but when we’re onstage it feels timeless. It’s funny, I would think I would feel kind of worn out, tired and too jaded to do this, but I don’t feel that way. I feel that way about other things in life, but not the band.”
And the ‘I Don’t Want to Miss A Thing’ hitmaker’s have revealed they “never” feel bored performing some of their classic hits because of the audience’s excited reaction.
Joe continued: “And I know when my band is playing, we just give it up for the audience. And that’s why it’s never boring playing our hits — when I start playing those songs and I see the reaction, it’s never boring.
“I’ve been really, really lucky to be able to go off and do side projects and that kind of thing, because that also helps to keep the band strong.”

Tony Visconti: Kendrick Lamar is the 'greatest'

OHMYGOSSIP — David Bowie producer Tony Visconti has praised Kendrick Lamar as the “greatest of them all.”
The 72-year-old producer, who worked on the late David Bowie’s final album ‘Blackstar’, has praised the likes of Kendrick Lamar and Frank Ocean as “nice rule-breakers”, and puts the ‘Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe’ hitmaker at the top of the list.
Tony said: “[There are] nice rule-breakers there at the top. I don’t think I need to talk about people like Frank Ocean but Kendrick Lamar is the greatest of them all. His album ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ broke every rule in the book and he had a number one album glued to the top of the charts.
“You’d think certain labels would learn from that. But they take somebody who is out there and say, ‘That’s what people want.’ No, people want that for one week. You don’t want the same song every single day of your life.”
And the producer insists breaking rules is the key to keeping music “fresh”, and says the tip is one he learned from the late ‘Life on Mars’ hitmaker himself.
He added to BBC Newsbeat: “Just break all the rules then music will always be fresh. David taught me that and we started doing it years ago.
“At the top level some people are just chasing old hits. Everybody likes variation and some of the big labels are leaving out the variation. Some labels want these ready-made kids to write songs for, to groom, to almost train in a gym – that’s ridiculous.
“There are thousands of young people making great music … give a young kid a chance.”
Meanwhile, Kendrick recently revealed his new album – which will be the follow-up to 2015’s ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ – will centre on the idea of learning to accept situations he may not necessarily like, such as when a father has to watch his daughter date a boy for the first time.
Using the concept of parenthood to explain his thinking, he explained: “One day, I may have a little girl … She’s gonna grow up. She’s gonna be a child I adore, I’m gonna always love her, but she’s gonna reach that one point where she’s gonna start experiencing things. And she’s gonna say things or do things that you may not condone, but it’s the reality of it and you know she was always gonna get to that place. And it’s disturbing.
“But you have to accept it. You have to accept it and you have to have your own solutions to figure out how to handle the action and take action for it.”

Radiohead to celebrate OK Computer at Glastonbury?

OHMYGOSSIP — Radiohead are reportedly set to mark the 20th anniversary of their acclaimed third studio LP ‘OK Computer’ at Glastonbury.
The seminal 1997 chart-topping record by the English alternative rock band laid the groundwork for the experimental sound they later followed, which spouted hits ‘Paranoid Android’, ‘Karma Police’ and ‘Lucky’ and is credited for signalling the end of the Britpop era.
The record turns two decades old a month before the group – comprised of Thom Yorke, Philip Selway, Ed O’Brien and Colin and Jonny Greenwood – will headline the iconic musical festival at Worthy Farm in Somerset, South West England in June, and they will reportedly pay homage to the album and 2007’s ‘In Rainbows’, which turns 10 years old in October.
A source told the Daily Star newspaper: “There’s a good chance it will be heavy on ‘OK Computer’.
“They aren’t nostalgic but it is also 20 years since their headline stint at Glasto in the rain.”
Radiohead were the first headliners to be announced for this year’s festival along with Ed Sheeran and the Foo Fighters.
And Nile Rodgers recently confirmed he is to play the festival.
The Chic frontman was asked by a fan on Twitter if he’ll be performing at the iconic music event at Somerset’s Worthy Farm this June, and he simply said “yes”.
A fan under the user name, @MrWayneyB tweeted: “@nilerodgers Glastonbury this summer? (sic)”
And he replied: “YES!!!!! (sic)”
The 64-year-old disco legend – who has collaborated with the likes of Sister Sledge, David Bowie, Pharrell Williams, Daft Punk and many more over his career spanning five decades – has played Glastonbury twice in the last five years in both 2013 and 2014.
It’s perfect timing for Chic to play Glastonbury as they are expected to release their first album in 24 years, ‘It’s About Time’, this year.
Elsewhere, grime superstar Wiley also seemed to confirm he would be playing one of the other stages.
He previously tweeted: “Can’t wait for @GlastoFest its gonna be sick. (sic)”
Later, the ‘Wearing My Rolex’ hitmaker – whose real name is Richard Cowie – added: “Come to @GlastoFest with me I need to show you something. (sic)”
Glastonbury takes place from June 21 and June 25.

U2's Bono makes up U2 lyrics

OHMYGOSSIP — Bono makes up the lyrics to most of U2’s songs.
The Irish rock band’s frontman has confessed that when he’s on stage he changes the words to their biggest hits as he goes along as he’s become more “literate” in recent times.
According to the Daily Star newspaper, he spilled: “I’ve been making s*** up on the microphone since we were 17.
“Sometimes it turns into words, sometimes it’s just like sound paintings. I’ve only got semi-literate recently.”
Quoting the Little Richard song ‘Tutti Frutti’, he added: “There’s an age-old tradition, ‘A-womp bam boom’. Sound is everything.”
The 56-year-old rocker also said that he will be switching up the lyrics to their hits during their celebratory tour of their 1987 album ‘The Joshua Tree’, which turns 30 this summer.
Bono – who is joined by The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. in the group – said: “I change the lyrics all the time.
“Not just because I don’t remember the original ones, but because I felt the first ones were just sketches a lot of the time. So I do change them.”
U2 recently said that they are hoping to premiere “one or two songs” from their upcoming album, ‘Songs of Experience’ if they feel they “work well” with the rest of the set list.
Bassist Adam, 57, previously said: “It would be very much my wish that we could play something from ‘Experience’ as part of the show, maybe one or two songs.
“Again, I caution that by saying we really have to see the arc of this show and we have to figure out whether those ‘Experience’ songs would work well in a stadium in this context, but I’d love to see some of that material out there and people being familiar with it before the album comes out.”
As for when the record, the follow-up to 2014’s ‘Songs of Innocence’, will be released, Adam said they want it to be “polished off” first, but it should drop later this year.
He added: “We all very much feel like it needs to be the end of this year. It’s not on any schedule anywhere, anything like that. We’re going to get back to that later this year and polish it off and finish it off a bit more. But we think we’re there with it.”
