Sarah Harding: I miss Girls Aloud

OHMYGOSSIP — Sarah Harding “really misses” Girls Aloud.
The 35-year-old singer shot to fame after winning a place in the band on reality show ‘Popstar: The Rivals’ alongside Cheryl, Nadine Coyle, Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts 15 years ago, and though she admits it is unlikely the group will get back together again, she’d jump at the chance of a reunion.
She said: “I get really nostalgic when I think about being in Girls Aloud.
“I found a CD of our Radio One Live Lounge performances the other day and it was so nice to listen back and hear us all bantering with each other. I really miss performing with the girls on stage.
“I don’t think [a reunion] will happen any time soon, but I’d love the chance to do something again. A lot of our fans would love us to come back so we’ll have to see what happens.”
Though Sarah rarely sees her former bandmates any more, she insists she will “always care” about them.
She told OK! magazine: “We’ve not seen each other properly for years, but Nadine and I still message each other.
“I don’t live near any of them so it’s hard to make time to see each other.
“Cheryl, Kimberley and Nicola are really close, but Nadine and I are much more independent. We might have gone our separate ways but we were like sisters for years, so I’ll always care about them.”
Despite this, the blonde beauty is keeping busy in the music world at the moment as she’s writing songs for other artists.
She said: “I’ve written some tracks for a few people but I can’t reveal too much right now.
“The music industry is a very difficult place to work, no one tells you how to make it after you’ve left a girl band.
“It can be tough but I have a studio at home and I’m always in there working on ideas. My dream is to get a publishing deal.”

Sting inspired by children's music taste

OHMYGOSSIP — Sting has been listening to his daughters’ pop music for inspiration.
The ‘Shape of My Heart’ hitmaker, former frontman of new wave rock band The Police, has just released his new single ‘50,000’, which was inspired by the late legendary singer Prince.
And Sting has revealed his music taste has adapted to those of his children, particularly his 26-year-old daughter Eliot ‘Coco’ Sumner – who he has with wife Trudy Styler – who is the singer and founder of the London group I Blame Coco.
Speaking on BBC Radio Two on Friday (07.04.17) he said: “I’m listening to my daughter – I know that sounds like nepotism but my youngest daughter Eliot Sumner has a fantastic pop song.”
In 2014, she released the EP ‘Information’, followed by the full album of the same name in 2016.
During her career she has laid vocals on the track ‘End of the Road’ by Sway and the single ‘Splash’ by Sub Focus.
She did a cover version of the Radiohead song ‘Creep’ with Clint Mansell for the soundtrack to the 2013 movie ‘Filth’.
Sting – who is also father to Joseph, 40, Fuchsia Katherine, 34, Brigitte Michael, 33, Jake, 31, and Giacomo Luke, 21, from previous relationships – can spot some of his own influences in Eliot’s music whilst his son, Joseph, who is a member of band Fiction Plane, has joined him on tour.
He continued: “I’m fascinated by it because I recognise some of the DNA in it and there some of it that I have no idea where it comes from lyrically, harmonically, so she’s very interesting. I’m incredibly proud. I’ve also got my eldest son [Joseph] on the road with me he’s singing a couple of songs so it’s a family affair.”
Joseph’s band Fiction Plane was previously the opening act for The Police on their 2007 reunion tour.

John Legend prefers Beyonce to Adele

OHMYGOSSIP — John Legend feels Beyonce deserved Album of the Year at the Grammys more than Adele.
The ‘Love Me Now’ singer has suggested the academy needs to do a “reform” of the awarding system to balance both the commercial success and artistic statements of winners of the prestigious accolade.
The 38-year-old hunk believes the R&B superstar made the most “important” statement of 2017 at the time.
He told Britain’s i newspaper: “Album of the Year should be hugely important albums that are high quality – and of course Adele’s was that – but for a lot of people it felt like Beyonce made the most important artistic statement of the year.
“And she did it in a way that was hugely successful, ground-breaking and news-making. I feel like there are some reforms that the academy could make to reflect the will of the creative community.”
The ‘La La Land’ actor has suggested that they make voting electronic as it would make it fairer on artists who are at the top of their game.
He said: “Sometimes [awards are] based on what’s sold the most, sometimes you have to ask ‘who are the voters?’ – the composition of the academy.
“One thing they should do is make voting electronic. At the moment they do it by mail which is crazy because of all the academies in the world musicians are probably the most transient.
“Sometimes a voting body might not reflect those musicians who are at the height of their careers, out touring … instead it could be artists who are retired, more conservative.”

Adele breaks Billboard 200 record with album 21

OHMYGOSSIP — Adele’s ’21’ has become the longest-charting album by a woman on the Billboard 200.
The 28-year-old singer – who has four-year-old son Angelo with her husband Simon Konecki – has succeeded Carole King’s ‘Tapestry’ by having the most weeks on the chart for an album by a female artist.
The ‘Water Under The Bridge’ hitmaker topped the charts with the album in 2011, which has lead single ‘Someone Like You’, and it’s currently on its 319th week on the list, beating the legendary American artist’s by one week.
The ‘Hello’ singer’s global record spent 24 non-consecutive weeks at the top spot and currently stands at 103 in the most recent chart data.
Carole 1971 album was popular in the charts for 302 consecutive chart weeks from its debut, which peaked at number 79 through to 1977, before making a chart return in 2010.
Other albums proven to be a huge success in the chart since it began publishing on a weekly basis from 1956 include Pink Floyd’s ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’, which currently holds the record for the most weeks on the chart at 927, followed by Johnny Mathis’ ‘Johnny’s Greatest Hits’ at 490 weeks.
Meanwhile, the record-breaking artist recently admitted she is unsure if she will ever tour again.
The bubbly blonde is currently on a lengthy world tour, but admitted it could be the last time she hits the road to perform.
Speaking on stage at her concert at Auckland’s Mount Smart Stadium recently, she said: “Touring isn’t something I’m good at – applause makes me feel a bit vulnerable. I don’t know if I will ever tour again.
“The only reason I’ve toured is you. I’m not sure if touring is my bag. My greatest accomplishment in my career is this tour.”
Despite being one of the best-selling artists of all time, Adele previously admitted she still suffers from stage fright.
The singer-songwriter confessed in 2015 that she was finding it harder to perform on stage and was “too frightened to try anything new”.
She shared: “I get so nervous with live performances that I’m too frightened to try anything new.
“It’s actually getting worse. Or it’s just not getting better, so I feel like it’s getting worse, because it should’ve gotten better by now.”

Alesha Dixon hints at Mis-Teeq reunion

OHMYGOSSIP — Mis-Teeq are still in talks for a comeback.
Alesha Dixon and her old band mates, Sabrina Washington and Su-Elise Nash, from the ‘Scandalous girl group have been keen to reunite for some time and, although the ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judge has admitted it would be “disastrous” if they didn’t reform in some form, she says it is a matter of finding the time as she is currently working on solo music amongst other things.
Asked about a reunion of the popular 90s three-piece on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’ on Friday morning (07.04.17), she said: “I don’t know what we’re waiting for really to be honest.
“We’re talking, we love each other – we’d love it to happen one day.
“Timing is key. At the moment obviously I’m in the studio working on solo material and I’m working on some other things so it’s just finding that time to do it.
“It would be disastrous to not do something because the history we have together and the fact that if it wasn’t for the girls, I wouldn’t be doing anything that I’m doing now.
“And I love them – so it’d be nice.”
Rumours of a reunion have been circulating for at least a year with Alesha, 38, insisting in 2016 that the three of them would be sitting down to discuss their plans for the future of the R&B/garage group.
Mis-Teeq – who spawned hits including ‘One Night Stand’ and ‘My Song’ – announced they would be splitting in 2005 to pursue solo careers after their label Telstar Records closed the year before.
Alesha has had the most success with her solo career having released a number of hits including ‘The Boy Does Nothing’ and also won BBC ballroom and Latin contest ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ in 2007.
During their six-year career from 1999 to 2005, they released two studio albums in the form of 2001’s ‘Lickin’ on Both Sides’ and their last record 2003’s ‘Eye Candy’.

Rita Ora taps David Bowie drummer for new album

OHMYGOSSIP — Rita Ora has joined forces with David Bowie’s drummer for her second studio album.
The 26-year-old pop beauty has worked with Mick ‘Woody’ Woodmansey, who is known for his work with the late music legend’s band The Spiders from Mars and for performing with the ‘Starman’ hitmaker during his Ziggy Stardust phase.
The 66-year-old sticksman, who was unsure as to Rita’s singing abilities but was “pleasantly surprised”, told the Daily Star newspaper: “I was like ‘are you sure you want what I do? I’m a hard-hitting rock guy’ but it was exactly what she wanted.
“I had her in this bag with the modelly, X Factor singers that probably need auto-tuning.
“But when we came together in the session she can really sing. I was really pleasantly surprised, she’s got a great voice.”
In 2015, Rita worked with late ‘Purple Rain’ hitmaker Prince – who died April last year from a fentanyl overdose – at his Paisley Park studios to record songs for the record.
At the time, she said: “Yeah you love him don’t you! Yeah he is on the album. He is writing with me on the new record and I did some stuff with him on his album.
“Amazing story though, I went to Paisley Park, which is his studios, and I looked around and I thought I was hearing things. I start hearing birds singing. One of my favourite songs is ‘Doves Cry’ so I think it’s amazing, and no word of a lie he had doves flying around in the studio. S***ting all over the place.
“It was amazing. They weren’t crying though. They were very happy doves.”
The ‘R.I.P.’ hitmaker earned £3 million in 2016 – despite not releasing a single track of her own last year.
The singer-and-actress hasn’t released a new song since ‘Body On Me’, ‘Coming Home’ and ‘Poison’ in 2015, but she has kept the money rolling in thanks to her promo work with various brands including Adidas and Coca-Cola, and from starring in the two films in the ‘Fifty Shades’ franchise.
Last year Rita signed a new deal with Atlantic Records UK – a subsidiary of Warner Music Group – following her departure from Jay-Z’s label Roc Nation and insisted that the follow-up to her 2012 debut LP ‘Ora’ will be deeply personal.

Clean Bandit want to release fitness DVD

OHMYGOSSIP — Clean Bandit want to release a fitness DVD.
The ‘Rockabye’ hitmakers – Grace Chatto, Jack Patterson and Luke Patterson – have been participating in Insanity workouts during their US tour, a fitness craze involving 10 extreme exercises using just your body weight for resistance and no gym equipment, and have enjoyed the gym sessions so much they would love to do their own version for a video.
Bassist James said: “I was thinking of making a new one, scrubbing the audio off it and doing our own version.
“The Christmas Clean Bandit workout video would do really well.
“We are starting to do the Insanity in the venues we play now, on the dancefloor.”
And the electronic music trio revealed they have also got their crew involved with the workout to make their tour extra fun.
James told the Daily Star newspaper: “We’ve all started, the crew too, doing the Insanity workout.
“Yesterday we cleared out all of Grace’s furniture from her hotel room and did it together in there.
“We bought an old TV from a junk shop in Seattle and then plugged my laptop in so we can play it nice and loud.”
Aside from their hopes of releasing a fitness DVD this Christmas, the pop group said they would love to get a number one with their new single ‘Symphony’, which features Zara Larsson, although they don’t mid Ed Sheeran being at the top of the charts.
Jack said: “Ed is doing so well it’s kind of amazing but as long as people are playing our music we don’t mind not being number one.”
The 31-year-old instrumentalist admitted that he didn’t expect such huge success from their chart-topping hits including ‘Rather Be’, a collaboration with Jess Glynne, and ‘Rockabye’ with Anne-Marie and Sean Paul, which saw them at the number one spot for nine weeks.
He added: “We never expected to have a bigger hit than Rather Be, we thought that was a major anomaly. So for Rockabye to surpass it we are so grateful.”

Marvin Humes believes JLS will make a comeback in the future

OHMYGOSSIP — Marvin Humes believes JLS will make a comeback in the future.
The 32-year-old singer, who is known for being in the boyband alongside Oritsé Williams, JB Gill and Ashton Merrygold, has revealed there are no solid plans for the ‘Everybody In Love’ hitmaker’s to reunite, but he is “sure” they will re-group and perform as a band again “at some point”.
When quizzed about a reunion by radio show host Roman Kemp on his show on Capital FM, the dark-haired hunk – who has daughters Alaia-Mai, three, and four-week-old Valentina with his wife Rochelle Humes – said: “Mate I don’t know. I honestly can’t give you a date. I don’t know.
“We’ll see, we’ll see, we’ll see. I can’t give you anymore than that mate. I’d love to but I can’t.
“We’re still good mates and if you asked me if me and the boys would perform on stage again I’m sure at some point that will happen.”
The group – who were runners up on ‘The X Factor’ in 2008 – split in 2013, and Marvin has admitted the decision for him and his fellow band members to go their separate ways was an “emotional” one because they achieved their dream together.
He explained: “It’s an emotional decision.
“We’ve been through so much since we first came together and no one would have dreamed what we achieved could be possible, and of course for it to all end was a massively emotional decision, and it wasn’t one that was taken lightly.”
But JLS were adamant they would end whilst they were on a high, rather than when their fans were fed up of hearing them sing.
Marvin said: “We’ve had an incredible career for five years and we want to see it as a celebration that we’ve achieved so much. We wanted to go out on top and not be that act where people are like, ‘Oh bloody hell, it’s JLS again’.”
Although JLS are no longer making music, they all keep in touch and have an “indescribable” bond.
Marvin said: “We’re best friends, we’re brothers, the bond between us is indescribable.”

Jon Bon Jovi postpones NY shows over bronchitis

OHMYGOSSIP — Jon Bon Jovi has postponed his shows in New York City this weekend because he’s battling bronchitis.
The 55-year-old rocker announced on Thursday (06.04.17) night that he was postponing his forthcoming gigs at Madison Square Garden so that he can focus on recovering from the lung infection.
A spokesperson for the band told Billboard: “The decision was difficult to make, but made in the interest of delivering the full, powerhouse performance for which Bon Jovi is known.”
Although fans are no doubt disappointed that the show has been cancelled, they will still get the chance to see the band in action as tickets for his Friday show (07.04.17) will be transferrable to Thursday April 13, and tickets for his Saturday (08.04.17) show will be honoured on Saturday April 15.
It may be a devastating blow to fans but it was expected to happen as the rocker has been battling with the illness for more than a week and has been struggling to hit the high notes during his performances.
Earlier this week Bon Jovi was forced to end his concert in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, by almost an hour early because he felt like he was singing like “sh*t” and jokingly asked if anyone from a bar band knew all the words to Bon Jovi songs and could fill in for him.
He told the crowd: “I think I’m singing like sh*t tonight, and I apologise. But I’m gonna keep pushing on and if you stick it out with me, I’ll stick it out with you.”
Bon Jovi’s band mate Phil X attempted to help him out with some of the vocals but the group decided to play their hit ‘Livin’ On A Prayer’ as their final song before they raced off stage for an early finish.
A representative for the rocker said: “The show wrapped after an hour and a half, as Jon explained, because a cold turned worse. This has been widely reported. Despite his illness, he gave his all.”

Slash to play virtual reality gig at Los Angeles Zoo

OHMYGOSSIP —
Slash is to play a virtual reality gig at Los Angeles Zoo.
The Guns N’ Roses guitarist will be joined by ‘School of Rock’ star Jack Black and musicians including Grace Potter and Bernard Fowler, who has provided backing vocals for The Rolling Stones since 1988, at the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association’s 2017 Beastly Ball on May 20.
The ball is put on to raise money for a brand new attraction, the Species Conservation Action Network and to help battle global conservation issues.
On his involvement and as a trustee, the ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ hitmaker said: “I’m honoured and proud to be a part of the L.A. Zoo’s 50th Anniversary Beastly Ball. It’s going to be the biggest yet, and I’m really looking forward to jamming live with some good friends.”
According to Billboard, fans will be able to watch the VR event and have access to an exclusive chat with the 51-year-old guitar god by accessing a live stream on City Private Pass.
Slash, an avid animal activist – who owns a number of reptiles – will perform songs for fans, who will be able to watch through Google Daydream or a Samsung Gear VR headset with a compatible smartphone.
The event is a collaboration with Citi, Live Nation and NextVR.
Jennifer Breithaupt, the managing director, media, advertising and global entertainment at Citi said: “With our friends at Live Nation and Next VR, we continue to push the boundaries in the music space to bring fans unprecedented access beyond attendance.
“With virtual reality, we can bring fans in for an unparalleled experience with their favourite artists and we couldn’t be more excited to kick off our concert series with Slash and friends.”

Ry Cooder honoured at BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards

OHMYGOSSIP — Ry Cooder was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2017 in London on Wednesday night (05.04.17).
The 70-year-old roots rock legend – famous for his slide guitar playing – has worked with greats including The Rolling Stones in the past and gave a rare UK performance of his 1974 hit ‘Jesus On The Mainline’ at the ceremony held at the Royal Albert Hall.
Cooder was presented with his accolade by ‘Cruel to Be Kind’ hitmaker Nick Lowe.
Folk legend Al Stewart was also presented with a Lifetime Achievement accolade by veteran BBC DJ Tony Blackburn.
The broadcaster revealed on stage that Stewart was the lead guitarist in his group Tony Blackburn and the Swinging Bells in the 60s as he gave him his prize.
And Blackburn quipped about how he’d make Stewart lose street cred by relaying their musical past.
Blackburn recalled: “We used to practice at my parents’ house and, as good as he was, he always played his electric guitar far too loud as it always drowned out my vocals … The fact I’m here tonight will do Al’s credibility a lot of damage but I don’t care as I’ve enjoyed playing ‘Year of the Cat’ very much over the years and I haven’t seen him in a long time. It really is an honour to present this Lifetime Achievement Award to such a talented musician.”
The late Woody Guthrie was posthumously inducted into the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Hall of Fame and Billy Bragg paid tribute to the icon – who died of complications of Huntington’s disease at the age of 55 in October 1967 – by doing his own version of Guthrie’s hit song ‘I Ain’t Got No Home’.
Bragg previously covered the song for his 2013 album ‘Tooth & Nail’. The induction marked 50 years since his death.
Guthrie’s songs are timeless with the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Lady Gaga covering his music and he had a strong bond with Bob Dylan, who he became a mentor to.
The evening featured an array of performances from artists of all backgrounds, but one rather poignant set of the Ballads of Child Migration, which documented thousands of British children who were sent overseas to Australia and Canada between 1869 and 1970, without their parents, by leading churches and charities and were written to keep alive their memories.
It was narrated by Barbara Dickson with original songs performed by Kris Drever, Jez Lowe, While & Matthews, Boo Hewerdine, O’Hooley & Tidow, John McCusker, Andy Cutting and Michael McGoldrick.
The prestigious Best Album went to Songs of Separation for their self-titled record and Musician Of The Year was given to ‘Here’s My Heart Come Take It’ hitmaker Rachel Newton.

Harry Styles admits Adele is 'the biggest and the best'

OHMYGOSSIP — Harry Styles considers Adele to be “the biggest” and “the best” artist on the planet.
The 23-year-old singer has been busily working on his debut solo album over recent months and while he has not specifically sought advice from the ‘Sorry’ hitmaker, Harry has admitted to being a huge fan of Adele’s music.
Harry shared: “I’ve spoken to her a little bit, she knows one of the guys that I wrote it with (his music) a lot. But I don’t think so much advice, I just like how she does stuff.
“I think she leads by example, she’s the biggest, she’s amazing, she’s the best so she should be the biggest. The thing with her is she’s a different thing, she’s just good at it. I like how she does everything, it looks very nice.”
Adele gave Harry a copy of her record-breaking album ’21’ for the singer’s 21st birthday – and he’s confessed to feeling a little bit intimated by the peaks she’s scaled.
During an extended interview with Nick Grimshaw on BBC Radio 1, Harry recalled: “For my 21st she gave me one of her albums ’21’ and said, ‘I did some pretty cool stuff when I was 21, good luck’ and I was like, ‘geez.'”
As well as releasing his first solo album, Harry is also set to star in the war movie ‘Dunkirk’ later this year.
And the dark-haired hunk has admitted the film gave him the chance to escape the pressures of making the album, before he returned to song writing while in Jamaica.
He said: “It gave me a chance to completely step away from it for a bit and have a real break. By the end of the movie, because we were swimming so much, I just wanted to write songs…
“I think we wrote about 70 songs – we did 50 songs and ideas in Jamaica and that’s including, like, little ideas. Well full songs, I say there are 30 songs. One of the songs on the album, I wrote a few years ago.”
Hear the full co-host and world premiere of Harry’s debut single 8am tomorrow (Friday 7th April 2017) on the Radio 1 Breakfast Show.

Damon Albarn: I can stay in the game for at least 18 months

OHMYGOSSIP — Damon Albarn has so many songs left over that didn’t make Gorillaz LP ‘Humanz’ that he can stay in “the game” for a while.
The Blur frontman has over 40 tracks that are currently unused and has said he will be making music for at least another year, hinting that there could be future music from the animated band – created by Albarn and comic book artist Jamie Hewlett – beyond their forthcoming outing, which drops later this month.
In a preview clip for his interview on Zane Lowe’s Apple Beats 1 Radio show, he said: “I’m just sort of slowly going through all tunes that sort of didn’t work out and finishing them.
“I can stay in the game for at least another 18 months, I reckon.”
The full interview will air later today (06.04.17) and on the show Gorillaz’s new track with Pusha T and Mavis Staples called ‘Let Me Out’ will get its debut.
The 49-year-old rocker recently said their first album since 2011’s ‘The Fall’ will sound like funk band Earth, Wind and Fire.
He said their new direction was inspired by the “joyous party” band, who delve into a mix of genres including R&B, soul, funk, jazz, disco, pop, rock, Latin and African music.
Speaking about the star-studded record, which features collaborations with the likes of Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, Noel Gallagher and De La Soul, he said: “Well I think when I start I kind of have this very vague idea of where I’m heading to, but it’s not planned and then one thing leads to another. I wanted to make a real funk band like Earth, Wind and Fire or that kind of ilk, that’s what this whole record is kind of, sort of heading towards – that big, kind of, joyous party.”
As well has being a “funk” album, Damon said he also hopes fans can listen to it and feel “terribly melancholic”.
Asked if it is a funk record, he said: “Yeah, yeah, this band’s got the funk.
