Mariah Carey to drop new album 'this year'

OHMYGOSSIP — Mariah Carey will drop a new studio album “later this year.”
The 47-year-old singer has certainly had a tough time recently, what with splitting from her fiance James Packer and now calling time on her relationship with Bryan Tanaka, but she’s determined to stay focused on her music after her new label pact with Epic Records, according to Variety.
The ‘Hero’ hitmaker’s Butterfly MC Records and Epic Records, which is under the Sony Music Entertainment umbrella, have reportedly recently joined forces.
She said in a statement: “I am putting my heart and soul into making more music. I am so thrilled for this next chapter and to continue working with, and for, everyone that I love.”
Although she’s been working on her album over the past few months, Mariah dropped her single ‘I Don’t,’ which was inspired by her break up from James last year, in February.
She said just after she released her new track: “I’m working on another song [right now], it’s a secret project with a friend of mind that’s an incredibly talented artist.
“I’m not gonna say his name, but you’ll hear about it soon and we’re going to be working on the video soon.”
Meanwhile, Mariah – who has five-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe with her ex-husband Nick Cannon – also revealed she is working in the studio with her kids and admits it is “one of her favourite things.”
She explained: “We recently did something together in the studio, and it’s one of my favourite things.
“I don’t want to go on too much about it, but they’re doing their thing. They love to be on stage, they love singing, and it’s one of the most incredible things for me to watch.”

Linkin Park team up with Stormzy and Pusha T

OHMYGOSSIP — Linkin Park have collaborated with British grime star Stormzy and rapper Pusha T on a new song.
The ‘Numb’ hitmakers are keeping tight-lipped about further details of the track, but frontman Chester Bennington has revealed that they reached out to the ‘Shut Up’ star before he became a chart-topper.
Revealing their collaboration in an interview with BeBox, he shared: “Well Stormzy, it required us reaching out saying ‘Hey, we like Stormzy, here’s a track if you would like to participate on it, that would be awesome’.
“Apparently he was like, ‘Yeah.’
“That wasn’t that difficult but we knew of Stormzy that’s why we reached out to him and we like Stormzy and we think that he’s dope. Little did we know that, he was about to take over the world.”
It comes after the American rock band’s rapper-and-songwriter, Mike Shinoda, revealed their forthcoming record ‘One More Light’ is a mixture of genres, although he refuses to label it “pop” or “rock” music.
He recently said: “The mixing of genres has been part of our DNA since the beginning.
“I wouldn’t call it pop, just like I wouldn’t call it hip-hop, just like I wouldn’t call it rock.”
The lead single ‘Heavy’ was co-written by songwriters Justin Tranter and Julia Michaels – known for their work on Britney Spears and Tinashe’s ‘Slumber Party’ and Justin Bieber’s ‘Sorry’ – something frontman Chester Bennington admits must “confuse” their loyal fans.
He said: “We’re confusing. We’re like a platypus.”
The group – also comprised of Brad Delson, Dave Farrell, Rob Bourdon and Joe Hahn – went on hiatus briefly in 2015, while Chester, 41, toured and performed with Stone Temple Pilots, who’s original frontman Scott Weiland passed away on December 3, 2015, from an accident overdose.
However, in November 2015, Chester announced he would be parting ways with STP to “focus 100 per cent” on Linkin Park.
He previously stated: “In all fairness to my bandmates in Linkin Park, as well as to myself and to my family, I’m going to focus solely on Linkin Park so I can contribute 100 per cent. It’s been an amazing experience and a dream come true, and I look forward to the future of both STP and Linkin Park.”
The band’s last studio LP was 2014’s ‘The Hunting Party’, which saw the band return to their 90s heavy metal roots.
‘One More Light’ is slated for release on May 19.

The View's Kyle Falconer becomes a father

OHMYGOSSIP — The View’s Kyle Falconer has become a father for the first time.
The 29-year-old Scottish singer’s fiancée Laura Wilde gave birth to a little girl called Wylde Elizabeth on Saturday (08.04.17).
The ‘Sam Jeans’ hitmaker posted a picture of his little bundle of joy on Instagram.
Alongside the cute photo, in which he can be seen perched next to little Wylde in her cot in hospital holding a pink balloon with ‘It’s a girl’ on it, he wrote: Wylde Elizabeth Falconer, stuff that dreams are made of! X (sic)”
Another post on his account on the photo-sharing app showed his daughter being held by her mum and Kyle suggested it was a painful birth as he hailed the brunette beauty a “trooper”.
He wrote: The loves of my life! Thanks for dealing with pain like I could never dream of and giving us this perfect wee lass. Ur a trooper @wildeweirdo love you both for eternity!! X x (sic)”
In July 2016, Kyle admitted defeat after suffering with on-going alcohol abuse in the past and took himself off to rehab in Thailand to get well and even postponed his wedding to Lauren.
At the time, he revealed: “I know for a fact that I have a problem but it’s hard to bite your tongue sometimes and straight away I start blaming everyone else.
“I’m not sure when it started but, after my mum died, I started to hit the drink and I depended on it to get onstage. If I didn’t have it, I’d be a shaking mess.”
The View released their first album ‘Hats Off to the Buskers’ in 2007, which topped the UK Album Chart.
The Scottish band have not released an album since their fifth album ‘Ropewalk’ back in 2015.
The indie rock group – also comprised of Kieren Webster, Pete Reilly and Steven Morrison – are currently on tour in the UK, and perform at The Garage in London this evening (10.04.17).

Black Sabbath planning documentary and live LP

OHMYGOSSIP — Black Sabbath are to release a documentary and potential live album from their ‘The End Tour’.
The ‘Paranoid’ hitmakers wrapped their final run on the road with their last-ever hometown show in Birmingham on May 2, with a two-hour concert at the NEC Arena, and guitarist Tony Iommi has revealed their plans to document their final moments as a group.
Iommi – who is joined by frontman Ozzy Osbourne and bassist Geezer Butler in the legendary heavy metal band is in “the process of mixing the sound from the final Sabbath shows in Birmingham for a possible live album”.
According to NBC News, he added: “We’ll actually be doing a documentary. My job at the moment is to have a listen to what we’ve done.”
It comes after bassist Butler said that there were plans for a blues record to follow 2013’s ’13’, but their tour prevented them being able to apply time to the project.
He recently said: “It would take something like two or three years to do it properly, and we thought we might not all be here by that time, so it would be better to do the final tour first and then maybe we’ll do a blues record later.”
Iommi said after their farewell tour that the ‘War Pigs’ rockers haven’t ruled out the possibility of recording new music despite being done with touring.
At the time, he said: “I’m going to miss playing on stage because that has been my whole life, the band and playing on stage. I like [playing on stage] and I’m sure it’s not going to end like that; I’m sure we might do a one-off show somewhere.
“It’s just the touring for me – It’s time to stop roaming the world and be at home for a bit … I’m still going to write and put stuff out.”

Melanie C supported by Spice Girl Geri Horner at London gig

OHMYGOSSIP — Melanie C’s concert saw a mini Spice Girls reunion as Geri Horner watched her former band mate perform in London on Saturday night (08.04.17).
The 43-year-old pop beauty had a star-studded audience at London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire with the 44-year-old beauty – better known as Ginger Spice in the girl group – seated with her close pal Sally Wood – Rolling Stones rocker Ronnie Wood’s wife – upstairs at the venue.
Aside from performing most of her solo LP ‘Version of Me’, Mel teased fans by saying she would be doing “something spicy” later on.
The brunette babe – who was Sporty Spice in the ‘Viva Forever’ group – dedicated the Spice Girls’ 1996 hit ‘Say You’ll Be There’ to Geri.
Prior to Melanie coming on, Geri was greeted by chanting fans, who shouted: “Geri, Geri, Geri!”
She happily stood up and took her own video of the crowd.
Ahead of Melanie’s set, Geri shared a photo with her on Instagram, writing: “Go girl Saturday night out (sic).”
She also shared a short clip of herself singing along, adding: “Amazing! Really loved the show! (sic)”
Geri supporting Melanie comes after she and Victoria Beckham ruled themselves out of a reunion of the 90s girl group.
Mel followed in Victoria’s footsteps by turning down the chance to join forces with Geri, Emma Bunton and Mel B for the ‘Wannabe’ hitmakers’ 20th anniversary comeback, and said it was because of seven-year-old daughter Scarlet.
She previously said: “I had to think about myself and the most important thing in my life, which is being a mother to my little girl. I had to be present for her.
“It was a hard decision, not only letting down the girls but all the fans who want it to happen.
“But we’re four individuals, we’ve gone on to have separate lives and careers and want different things.
“We always said we had to be comfortable but lots of people were getting involved and I wasn’t comfortable.”

Alan McGee: Oasis would spoil the legend if they reunite

OHMYGOSSIP — Alan McGee thinks Oasis would “f*** up” their “legendary” status if they ever reunite.
The band’s former manager doubts bitter sibling rivals, Noel and Liam Gallagher will reform the ‘Little by Little’ rock group, and he hopes they don’t because he thinks it could spoil their position as one of the most influential bands of all time.
According to The Sun newspaper, Alan said: “I just hope they don’t spoil the legend, try and recreate and get back together.
“They’d f*** it up. As long as you don’t do that, then they are legends forever. So let’s leave it legendary.”
Asked if he thinks a reunion is on the cards further down the line, he added: “I can’t see it. They are just in different places. It’s always moment in time.
“You can’t keep going back to try and be 21 again.
“You have got to move on, you know.”
However, Alan, 56, previously said he could see Oasis getting back together in 10 years’ time, but without Noel, 49.
The iconic rock group split in 2009 following a massive backstage bust-up between the famous brothers, but Alan said at the time that he could see a scenario in which singer Liam leads a reunion without his older sibling.
He mused: “I think it will get to a stage when Liam takes them back on the road, maybe in 10 years or something. There is a massive fan base of younger people who never had the chance to see them live.”
However, Alan cannot see Noel returning to the band given the bad blood that still exists between him and his 44-year-old brother.
He said: “He’s my pal, I know how he thinks, and he doesn’t need it. The two of them don’t get on. It’s not an act.”
Acknowledging the bad blood that exists between Liam and Noel, Alan – who signed Oasis to his Creation Records label and helped them become the biggest band in the world – claimed the documentary film ‘Supersonic’, which charted their phenomenal rise, reaffirmed his belief that the brothers cannot work together again.
He previously said: “I can’t see Noel Gallagher going back and doing it. If anything came out of that film [‘Supersonic’], it was that it’s done, it’s finished, don’t spoil the f***ing legend.”

Damon Albarn almost drunkenly set up Twitter account

OHMYGOSSIP — Damon Albarn has ruled out joining Twitter because he fears he could get himself into a “pile of s***”.
The 49-year-old rocker isn’t active on social media, despite the virtual group being one of the most heavily technology-driven acts around and he admits he isn’t “very good” with keeping a profile online.
The ‘Hallelujah Money’ hitmaker almost signed up to the micro-blogging site when he was drunk recently, but he’s glad he didn’t despite feeling like it was time for him to speak up.
He confessed to the latest issue of Q magazine: “I did get really drunk a few weeks ago and tried to create a Twitter account.
“I felt I had a lot to say and it was time. Out of the blue I could land myself in a whole pile of sh*t. But I’m not very good at that kind of thing, so it’s not going to happen.”
Meanwhile, Albarn also told the publication he was “upset” when his Gorillaz partner James Hewlett left him for Paris.
The 49-year-old rocker is gearing up for the release of the animated band’s first album in six years, ‘Humanz’, and has opened up about reuniting with his band mate and how they drifted apart after a “fallow period” in their partnership.
He explained: “He basically left and I felt upset by that. There was a fallow period in our relationship.
“I’ve had the same experience with Graham (Coxon) over the years. I get the sense that sometimes people like getting off my steamroller and doing their own thing for a while and then joining me further down the road.”
Hewlett, 49, admitted the reason the group – comprised of four animated members: 2D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle and Russel Hobbs – fell apart was over his “disagreement” with Albarn and how he simply needed a break from the Blur frontman after being in each other’s company for a decade.
At the time, the comic book creator decided to up sticks and move to Paris to spend quality time with his now wife, French actress, Emma du Caunes, and so he turned down Albarn’s offer to work on his operatic project Dr Dee.
Hewlett added: “I needed to change my life. I was going a little bit insane at that point. And, yeah we had a little bit of a disagreement. We’d lived in each other’s pockets for 10 years. Damon’s an artist, he’s one of the few real artists that I know, but that means you can be a little crazy and a little difficult and I can be the same. We locked horns a few times and I needed to escape. I met my wife, I went to Paris and I fixed myself. I sorted out my head.”
The full interview appears in this month’s Q magazine, on sale on Tuesday 11 April.

Damon Albarn: The world has gone nuts

OHMYGOSSIP — The new Gorillaz album was recorded in response to the “world going f***ing nuts”, according to Damon Albarn.
The 49-year-old star has revealed the band’s first album in six years, ‘Humanz’, was inspired by the election of Donald Trump as US president.
He explained: “I told everyone to imagine you’re in America after the inauguration and it’s the worst-case scenario: how would you feel that night? Let’s make a party record about the world going f***ing nuts.”
But Jamie Hewlett, the comic book artist who designs the band’s animations, insisted the album isn’t “a statement about Trump”, insisting it merely explores the “world in which he could get elected”.
James also opened up about his earlier feud with Damon, admitting they can both be “difficult” people to deal with.
He told Q magazine: “We’d lived in each other’s pockets for 10 years.
“Damon’s an artist. He’s one of the few real artists that I know, but that means you can be a little crazy and a little difficult and I can be the same.”
Damon, for his part, admitted their relationship soured when James “left” to work on other projects.
He shared: “He basically left and I felt upset by that. There was a fallow period in our relationship.
“I get the sense that sometimes people like getting off my steamroller and doing their own thing for a while and then joining me further down the road.”
Meanwhile, Damon recently said the band’s first album since 2011’s ‘The Fall’ sounds like an Earth, Wind and Fire record.
Damon explained: “I think when I start I kind of have this very vague idea of where I’m heading to, but it’s not planned and then one thing leads to another.
“I wanted to make a real funk band like Earth, Wind and Fire or that kind of ilk, that’s what this whole record is kind of, sort of heading towards – that big, kind of, joyous party.”

Harry Styles' Spotify nightmare

OHMYGOSSIP — Harry Styles’ debut single could miss out on the top spot in the Official Charts after a Spotify glitch prevented users from listening to the track.
The former One Direction hunk released his debut solo single ‘Sign of the Times’ on Friday (07.04.17), and despite climbing to the top of the UK charts in terms of downloads and sales, figures from the streaming service are set to make the track drop below Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’ after a glitch on the service’s search function left fans unable to find the song.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “This is a nightmare start for Harry’s solo career and his record label won’t be happy.
“The Spotify malfunction meant many of his fans simply couldn’t find his song to listen to online when they searched for it.
“The potential ramifications are big and it’s likely he has missed out on hundreds of thousands of streams as a result. That could really affect his chart position come Friday (14.04.17).
“He is Number One at the moment but that’s only because his streaming stats haven’t been included yet, and they have more weight.
“Harry’s launch is one of the industry’s biggest this year and everyone expected him to hit the ground running by topping the charts.”
According to the publication, as of Sunday (09.04.17), ‘Sign of the Times’ had sold 23,816 copies compared to 6,969 for ‘Shape of You’, which is the current number one.
However, when it came to streams, Ed completely dwarfed the 23-year-old singer with 548,052 streams to Harry’s 301,925.
Spotify rectified the issue on Saturday (09.04.17) and the song is now available on the platform, however the loss of streams on the day of release is believed to have heavily impacted Harry’s chances of scoring a number one single.

Sheryl Crow doesn't expect number one

OHMYGOSSIP — Sheryl Crow doesn’t expect her new album to be a chart topper.
The 55-year-old singer will release ‘Be Myself’ later this month but is realistic about her expectations for the record and is just thankful she is an “elder stateswoman” of music and doesn’t have to compete with younger artists.
She said: “I know that commercial pop music is really geared towards young people.
“I don’t for one second kid myself that this record is going to shoot up the charts and be bought by a bunch of 13 year olds. It’s just good if it gets heard.
“And now being one of the elder stateswomen of music… I look around and go, ‘Oh gosh, there’s just so much manoeuvring to be the next sexiest, the most trending.’ I just think, wait till you get to the point where you’re just happy to be who you are. It is liberating!”
The ‘All I Wanna Do’ hitmaker – who has sons Wyatt, nine, and Levi, seven – admits she couldn’t see herself starting out in music nowadays because things are so sexualised.
She said: “There’s no way I could do it. I remember on my first album, this stylist came in with all these gorgeous clothes. I was, like, ‘Urgh!’
“I thought to myself, ‘I have to make sure I don’t look glamorous because I want to be taken seriously.’ So on my first couple of albums, you couldn’t even see what I looked like – everything was blurry and I wore trashy clothes.”
And Sheryl recalls being horrified when she saw the first edit for the video of her 1996 single ‘If It Makes You Happy’.
She said: “The way they shot it, you could see up my skirt. And when I got the cut, I said to the record label: ‘We’re going to have to re-edit this thing because you can see my underwear.’
“And they said: ‘Is that really a bad thing?’ We went through it and cut it frame by frame.”

James Arthur: Zayn wants to be me

OHMYGOSSIP — James Arthur thinks Zayn Malik and Justin Bieber want to be him.
The former ‘X Factor’ winner has claimed the two pop superstars have used him as a huge source of inspiration for their own music and suggested their songs mimic his material.
He said: “I think Justin Bieber and Zayn have both been listening to me a lot and they basically wanna be me.
“There’s a couple of tracks of Zayn’s where he ad libs.
“I asked Louis Tomlinson whether he’s been listening to me and he said ‘Yeah, he’s been lurking’.”
The ‘Can I Be Him’ singer – who has previously spoken about how he slept on the streets after his parents split – also took a swipe at the likes of Ed Sheeran and Ellie Goulding for being able to make it because of the “support” they had in their home lives.
He added to The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “I’m not saying none of these guys are talented, but people think Ed Sheeran crawled off a couch and lived on the street or something but him, Ellie Goulding… they all come from Suffolk, Surrey, Richmond… they come from support.
“I think Sam Smith’s dad got a huge loan or something to help his career.
“Those things can help artists get attention but I guess my song ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ proved it’s about the song.”
The 29-year-old singer is “done with the tortured soul thing” and wants to make music “people can f**k too” in the future.
And James – who was infamously the subject of a kiss-and-tell story where his lover revealed he kept his socks on during their intimate moments – explained he tried to show his “vulnerable and honest” side on his latest album ‘Back from the Edge’
He said: “For this album I had to be vulnerable and honest to let people know I’m not such a bad guy.
“I think the perception was I was this f***ing bad boy who wears socks . . . but I was so f***ed up all the time.”

John Legend: I'm not an emotional guy

OHMYGOSSIP — John Legend is “not an emotional man”.
The ‘All of Me’ singer – who has 11-month-old daughter Luna with his model wife Chrissy Teigen – may be known for his heartfelt lyrics, but he isn’t so expressive about his feelings in everyday life.
He told Cosmopolitan magazine: “I’m not an emotional man in general, which surprises people.
“However, I wrote ‘Right By You’ from my new album, for my daughter Luna, and when she was two months old, I sang it to her and Chrissy, which made me cry.
“Chrissy, Luna and music are my greatest loves.”
The 38-year-old star admits he used to use his songwriting abilities to try and impress girls when he was younger.
He said: “When I was at high school, I used to write gospel songs for girls I was trying to hit on.
“Sometimes it worked, but not all the time.”
Meanwhile, John recently admitted becoming a parent had changed his songwriting style.
Speaking about his current style and how it differs from his 2004 debut album ‘Get Lifted’, John said: “I’ve grown up a lot in the last twelve years and had a lot more life experiences. Getting married and having a baby have added new perspectives and depth to the subjects I sing about too. Just from living in the world and seeing more contemporary issues have added new layers to my music which weren’t there before.”
And the singer – who married his partner in 2013 – has praised his family for bringing more meaning and “positivity” to his album ‘Darkness and Light’.
He explained: “I think I’ve always been an optimistic person and I think that streak of optimism runs through each of my albums.
“I think there is just more depth to what I’m feeling because everything means more to me now I have a wife and daughter. Everything is more significant and I’m thinking more philosophically about things and thinking about life and death a lot more.”

Liam Gallager once threatened Third Blind Eye guitarist Kevin Cadogan

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher reportedly “threatened” Third Blind Eye guitarist Kevin Cadogan after a show in the US.
The former Oasis frontman is known for his outspoken ways, and 46-year-old Kevin has now claimed that the rocker once threatened to stab him after the star accidently hit him with an empty can of Coca-Cola when his band supported the ‘Wonderwall’ hitmakers in 1996.
He recalled: “That was a really cool move to get us that opening gig in San Francisco. It was pretty ballsy. It was just incredible.
“I got threatened by Liam that night with physical violence. I was drinking a can of Coke and had finished it and crumpled it up and was going to throw it, basketball-style, 20 yards away. The can hit someone who was in the corner – I just saw this glowing ash and the can rolled over to it. After the show he said, ‘You could have gotten stabbed.’ Literally said that. I said, ‘What are you talking about?’ He was like, ‘You threw that can at me, man’. I did not throw a can at him.”
And the ‘Semi Charmed Life’ hitmaker also claims Liam, 44, told him his band would “never make it”, although he praised Liam’s brother and Oasis guitarist Noel – who Liam frequently blasts on social media despite the band splitting in 2009 – as being “the serious one”.
Kevin added to Billboard magazine: “Noel [Gallagher] was studying one of my guitars, geeking out on it, and I could tell he was the serious one. Liam afterwards said, ‘You guys are shite, you’ll never make it’. The crowd really got into it. We were told by their management not to get too upset when we get stuff thrown at us at our hometown show.”

Harry Styles' single reflects the album

OHMYGOSSIP — Harry Styles says his debut single is a “good representation” of his upcoming album.
The former One Direction singer released his debut solo effort ‘Sign of the Times’ on Friday (07.04.17) and has said that whilst not every song on his forthcoming solo album will follow the same style as the track, he believes the single is a sign of things to come.
He said: “I think ‘Sign of the Times,’ in terms of honesty, is a good representation of the album. I don’t know if they all sound exactly like it, I think there’s a lot of different little bits on there. But in terms of liking it, I do, which is handy.”
And Harry – who is the third member of the boy band to go solo after Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson released the singles ‘This Town’ and ‘Just Hold On’ respectively – said his inspiration for the single came out of wanting to write “something honest”.
He told Carson Daly on American radio station AMP Radio: “I wanted to write something honest and something that I wanted to listen to. I think it’s impossible to not be influenced by stuff you grow up listening to — stuff my parents played and stuff that I still listen to now. We just kind of started writing and wanted to see what came out. We’re pretty happy with it.”
Meanwhile, Harry previously insisted that the ‘Drag Me Down’ hitmakers – which also includes Liam Payne, who is set to release solo material later this year, and previously included fifth member Zayn Malik before his departure in 2015 – are likely to reunite at some point despite all four of them pursuing solo careers.
He said: “I think the thing that’s really cool about it is, you know, we all went through that together and it’s like you know, something that we’ll always have in common. I don’t think any of us will ever rule out anything in the future. You know, it was a huge part of our lives and I think now it’s really cool to kind of have everyone go and write what they want to put out as themselves, I think that’s something really cool you know. It’s the band, it’s one thing. And when it’s all together it’s that and then I think it’s interesting to get to see everyone kind of explore their own tastes as well.”
