Chester Bennington’s mic-breaking voice

OHMYGOSSIP — Chester Bennington nearly broke a microphone with his voice while recording ‘One Step Closer’.
Record producer Don Gilmore, who worked on Linkin Park’s 2000 debut album ‘Hybrid Theory’, insists the frontman – who sadly took his own life last week aged 41 – was a “dream come true” to work alongside and has recalled a particularly powerful recording session with the late star.
Speaking about working on the US rockers’ debut single ‘One Step Closer’, he said: “He knocked the walls down in the little fort. When he sang it, he just literally destroyed the whole thing and almost broke the microphone. He was just out of his mind. And the rest is history.
“For a record producer he was just a dream come true. He could go to that point that was, like, beyond – it’s just crazy how hard he could go with such precision. And even when he sings softly, the precision [was there]. So yeah, he was a super, special guy.”
Don admitted Chester – who leaves behind six children and wife Talinda – used to regularly talk about his problems but also laughed a lot and would have the whole crew in hysterics during recording sessions for the band’s second studio album ‘Meteora’.
He added to Billboard: “The thing that is so disturbing about this – and granted, I haven’t been in touch with him in a long time – he was a guy who maybe had a few problems, but he would kind of talk about them.
“‘Oh, this and that. My wife is doing this. Oh, I’ve got to go do this.’ Just normal stuff that we all do. And he liked to laugh, he had an amazing sense of humour.
“On ‘Meteora’, he set up this little ProTools rig out in the lounge and he would write these little funny punk rock songs and record them and bring them in and play them for us.
“But I mean, he just was a funny guy, it was awesome. It’s just, boy, such a sad, sad thing.”
Chester’s death was officially ruled as suicide by hanging, the LA County Coroner’s Office confirmed yesterday (24.07.17).

The Killers: The Strokes were always above us

OHMYGOSSIP — The Killers always thought The Strokes were “so much more above” them.
Drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. has admitted the group didn’t put themselves in the same class as their rival band, whose guitarist Nick Valensi recently admitted they used to think their songs were much better than Brandon Flowers’ group’s tunes.
Ronnie told NME magazine: “I certainly didn’t, and I don’t think anybody in the band really would even put ourselves in the same boat.
“We always thought those guys were so much more above us. It’s kind of flattering just to hear them talking about our band – even now.
“Especially The Strokes. They’re one of the baddest rock bands out there.”
Nick recently revealed his band used to wonder why everyone was listening to some of The Killers’ tracks, such as their 2004 hit ‘Mr. Brightside’, more than their own tunes.
In an excerpt of book ‘Meet Me in the Bathroom: Rebirth and Rock and Roll in New York City 2001-2011’ by journalist Lizzy Goodman, he says: “We had conversations that went along the lines of ‘Gosh, I think our songs are better than ‘Mr. Brightside’ by the Killers, but how come that’s the one everyone is listening to?’
“They did it a different way. They recorded it in a different way. They promoted it in a different way. We could be that big.”
Frontman Brandon recently admitted he thought The Strokes’ debut album ‘Is This It’ was better than The Killers’ first record, ‘Hot Fuss’,
When asked if ‘Hot Fuss’ was worthy of being named one of the best debut albums in the last 30 years, he replied: “I will say it’s one of them. If you ask me, The Strokes’ debut is better. Guns N’ Roses’s debut is better.
“But I do think we’re up there and I’m proud of it.”

Brian McFadden to join Boyzone

OHMYGOSSIP — Brian McFadden is set to join Boyzone for a series of anniversary gigs next year.
The 37-year-old singer was hoping that his band Westlife, who split up in 2012, would get back together for a reunion, but it looks like he’s finally accepted defeat as he has now agreed to join the rival group for their upcoming 25th anniversary tour.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, Boyzone’s Shane Lynch said: “There’s a possibility of Brian joining us. He’s doing the whole tour on a support but there’s no point him hanging around. I’d like to bring him on stage for a couple of songs with the boys.”
Brian left Westlife in 2004 at the height of the band’s success to explore a solo career, before he headed to Australia for a number of television gigs, including being a judge on ‘Australia’s Got Talent’.
But he recently revealed he wanted to reunite with his former band mates Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, Mark Feehily, and Shane Filan.
While the group seemed semi-keen to reform, Louis Walsh – who managed the band – told him it was highly unlikely he would be able to join the foursome.
Brian said previously: “Louis has said the conversations were that if there was going to ever be a Westlife reunion, which I don’t know if there’s going to be, it will probably just be the other four members.”
However, Nicky has spoken recently about the prospect of the ‘Safe’ hitmakers reforming, and confirmed that it was a possibility with their forthcoming 20th anniversary in 2018 being the catalyst.
The 38-year-old singer said: “I don’t think it would take much to get us back together. In a couple of years’ time it will be the 20th anniversary and you could probably use that and maybe people will be interested. It’s about wanting to do it at the right time.”

Liam Gallagher explains why he watches Love Island

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher enjoyed watching the dating show ‘Love Island’ because it’s “s**t” and “stupid”.
The outspoken rocker emerged as an unlikely fan of the British TV show during the recent series, and Liam has revealed the reasons why he became such an avid watcher of the show, which sees 12 singletons spend time together in a villa in Majorca, Spain.
He explained: “I’m watching it every night. Well, Saturday they don’t show it, do they? The c****. You’ve got to do something else. It’s not cool, man. I’ve got to do things on a Saturday now, go out and s**t you know what I mean?
“I like it man, but I don’t truly understand the bit where they’ve got to kip on the floor, outside. I’m just into the fact that it’s s**t, you know what I mean? It’s just stupid. I’m not getting anything out of it. I’m not learning anything out of it, it’s just on.”
Liam, 44, said that because the soccer season does not restart in earnest until August, his girlfriend Debbie Gwyther controls the only TV in their house during the British summer.
And he revealed Debbie’s interest in ‘Love Island’ has led him to watch the show.
Speaking to Radio X, Liam explained: “It’s not my doing, it’s Debbie’s doing.
“I’ve only got one TV in the house. She’s the boss when it comes to that. I have Saturdays and Sundays with the football, and now there’s no football on, it becomes Debbie’s TV. So ‘Love Island’ it is.
“But I’m into it, actually, so it’s alright. It’s good to talk about it. There’s a lot of guys out there now, thinking, sitting there thinking, ‘Thank f**k for that, mate.’ It’s good, mate. ‘Love Island’s where it’s at.”

Enrique Iglesias thought Matt Terry was Spanish

OHMYGOSSIP — Enrique Iglesias thought Matt Terry was Spanish when he first heard his vocals.
The ‘X Factor’ winner recently worked with the hunk on a remix of his smash hit ‘Súbeme La Radio’ alongside Sean Paul – who features on the original – but, although he was born and raised in Bromley, East London, his accent was convincing.
Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, Enrique said: “When I heard Matt sing in Spanish it’s crazy. You wouldn’t know he was English. He doesn’t have an accent. You can tell when he was singing he has that Spanish in him.”
While Matt has kept a relatively low profile since he won the show, Enrique couldn’t wait to work with him after he watched him storm to victory on the programme.
He explained: “I knew who he was because of ‘X Factor’ of course. I watch a lot of those shows. We thought it would be cool. He has his fan base.
“What I normally like to do in these collaborations is just try it out. Artists need to feel comfortable singing the songs. I have done collaborations before and a lot of times they don’t turn out how you expect them to.”
Matt, 24, has been spending the last few months across the pond working on new music and the ‘Hero’ hitmaker has admitted he’s willing to offer a helping hand.
Enrique explained: “I definitely want to help, for sure. Once I collaborate with someone and the vibe is good you keep going.
“And even if this once hadn’t worked, I would still trey and try until we got it right.”
And Enrique hasn’t ruled out working with other ‘X Factor’ finalists in the future.
He added: “It’s tough to be an artist and get signed to a record company these days,. To me, whether you’re on ‘X Factor’ or because you walk into the Song building, it’s not any different.”

Olly Murs offers free tickets to fans who had gigs cancelled

OHMYGOSSIP — Olly Murs has faced a fresh wave of backlash after he asked his fans from Bournemouth and Exeter to travel to Swansea to see him live.
The ‘Unpredictable’ hitmaker was due to perform two gigs this summer but they had to be axed after the promoter went into liquidation.
Now Olly has announced fans who had tickets for that show can attend his gigs in Swansea or Portsmouth for free.
He wrote in a statement: “After both of these shows were cancelled when the promoter went into liquidation, I know you were all upset, and left out of pocket! We tried to find a way of still doing the shows of rescheduling them but ended up facing too many obstacles, and we couldn’t risk letting you down again.
“So, together with my management, agent and promoters of my other summer shows, we have come up with the most viable solution so I can still hopefully see most of you.
“Anyone that hasn’t been offered a refund from their original ticketing company can get their ticket swapped with a replacement one to either of these following shows: August 12, Singleton Park, Swansea or August 27, Victorious Festival, Portsmouth.
“For those of you that have been told you’ll be refunded from the ticket agency, you will still be offered special offer tickets to either of these shows. I know I’m asking you to travel to a new location, and it’s far from ideal, but we’ve really tried to make something work and I hope I can see loads of you at these other shows. Much love always, Olly x (sic)”
However, the news hasn’t gone down well with some fans on social media.
One wrote: “Doesn’t help my Daughter and Misses from seeing you way to far from us, so no refund or concert for them to see … my Daughter been in tears for the past week and I’m not thankful that I’ve lost a lot of money which I work hard for (sic)”
Whilst another added: “So you’re still expecting people to waste money to other places n it’s not your own concert just a festival n I thought u care bout ur fans (sic)”
A third wrote: “Very disappointed with this as can’t make either dates, too far to travel and still am not getting my money back. (sic)”
But others have leaped to Olly’s defence, with one writing: “There’s no other artist that would do this! So lovely Thankyou so much for everything x (sic)”

Alice Cooper finds Warhol print

OHMYGOSSIP — Alice Cooper discovered a forgotten Andy Warhol print “rolled up in a tube” after it spent 40 years in a storage locker.
The ‘School’s Out’ singer had kept the red Little Electric Chair silkscreen – a gift from his former girlfriend Cindy Lang – with a number of his old stage artefacts but was urged to dig it out four years ago when art dealer Ruth Bloom told the rocker’s manager Shep Gordon how much one of the artist’s pieces had recently sold for at auction, and he urged his client to find the print.
Shep said: “Alice’s mother remembered it going into storage. So we went and found it rolled up in a tube.”
It was then suggested Alice hang the print at home but, as another piece from the collection previously sold for $11.6 million, the 69-year-old singer wasn’t keen to have something with such a high value in his house and returned it to storage.
The picture cannot be verified because it is unsigned, but Warhol expert Richard Polsky has seen the print and is “100%” certain it is genuine.
And Alice is now considering hanging it in his home when he comes off tour at the end of the year.
Shep told The Guardian newspaper: “Truthfully, at the time no one thought it had any real value.
“Andy Warhol was not ‘Andy Warhol’ back then. And it was all a swirl of drugs and drinking. But you should have seen Alice’s face when Richard Polsky’s estimate came in. His jaw dropped and he looked at me. ‘Are you serious? I own that!'”
While Alice thinks he had a conversation with the late artist, who he befriended in the early 1970s, about the piece, he was drinking so heavily at the time, he can’t be certain his memory is reliable.
Shep said: “It was back in 72 and Alice had moved to New York with his girlfriend Cindy Lang.
“Andy was kind of a groupie, and so was Alice. They loved famous people. So they started a relationship, and they loved to hang out…
“As I recall, Cindy came to me for $2,500 for the painting. At the time Alice is making two albums a year and touring the rest of the time. It was a rock’n’roll time, none of us thought about anything. He ends up going into an insane asylum for his drinking and then leaves New York for LA.
“Alice says he remembers having a conversation with Warhol about the picture. He thinks the conversation was real, but he couldn’t put his hand on a Bible and say that it was.”

Guns N’Roses excited for album

OHMYGOSSIP — Guns N’Roses are “excited” about their new album.
The ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ hitmakers have been rumoured to be working on a follow-up to 2008’s ‘Chinese Democracy’ and guitarist Richard Fortus says the group – which also currently comprises Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagen – are in the best place they’ve been in since he joined in 2002.
He told the St Louis Dispatch about the record: “Everyone is excited about it. There’s a really magical thing now with the band. It feels like a new band. It feels like the best version since I joined, and it’s the most fun for me. There’s so much excitement around it.”
Before joining Guns N’Roses, the 50-year-old musician had worked with the likes of Rihanna, Thin Lizzy, and The Psychadelic Furs and was on tour with Enrique Iglesias when he got a call from his friend, the group’s then-bassist Tommy Stinson, about the possibility of landing his “dream” job.
He recalled: “Enrique was huge, and it was great.
“We were doing three nights at Albert Hall in London. He was at the peak of his game, and the band was killer, but I didn’t want to continue touring with Enrique.
“There’s a big difference between pop music and playing in a rock band… I was eager to get into a rock band again.
“I was excited – I was always down to do anything with Tommy. And they were like a dream band. They flew me to LA and had a car waiting to take me to the audition. I hung out with Axl (Rose), talking and listening to music, then flew to Ireland to pick up the rest of the (Iglesias) tour.”

Louis Tomlinson’s ‘awkward’ Bebe meet

OHMYGOSSIP — Louis Tomlinson has admitted it was “a little bit awkward” when he met Bebe Rexha for the first time.
The 25-year-old star teamed up with the US singer/songwriter for the video of his latest solo single ‘Back to You’ and despite a slightly uncomfortable opening, the pair had a “really nice” day.
He said: “I met her at the video shoot and it was one of those where she was in the middle of a shot, pulled out, did the introductions and whatever.
“It was a little bit awkward as it always is in those situations, but as the day went on it was really nice.”
Louis’ latest song features lyrics such as “I call you but you never even answer/ I tell myself I’m done with wicked games”, but he insists the track is nothing to do with girlfriend Eleanor Calder, who he recently rekindled his romance with.
Speaking on ITV morning show ‘Lorraine’, he added: “Of course there are some personal things I relate to and that always contributes to lyrics.
“What was nice to me about this song is … the rest of the album is really honest. A little bit vulnerable at times but really honest.
“It was nice to have something on the album that isn’t as directly related to me.
“It is coincidental, definitely … but I would never describe Eleanor as that person in that relationship because that relationship is really intense.
“Maybe they’re not right for each other, maybe they are, and that isn’t Eleanor.”
Louis – who has 18-month-old son Freddie with ex Briana Jungwirth – split from fashion blogger Eleanor in 2015 after three years together but they reconnected earlier this year, following his break-up with Danielle Campbell.

Kylie Minogue ‘turns to a country sound on new album’

OHMYGOSSIP — Kylie Minogue is moving towards a country music sound on her comeback album.
The 49-year-old star has been recording in Nashville with top country writers and producers, and Kylie is reportedly exploring a noticeably different sound on her new album.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Kylie is exploring all different types of options at the moment.
“She’s always appreciated the country sound and potentially mixing the genre with her classic pop sound is an exciting prospect.”
The Australian star, who is best known for her catchy pop tunes, has recently been in the studio with Grammy-winning producer Nathan Chapman, who has previously worked with the likes of Taylor Swift and Shania Twain.
Last month, meanwhile, it was reported that Kylie would open up about her split from Joshua Sasse on her new album.
The ‘Spinning Around’ hitmaker called time on her romance with Joshua in February and it’s been suggested that fans can expect to hear exactly what went wrong when the star releases her upcoming record.
A source previously said: “Kylie’s album will give fans fly-on-the-wall access to what happened between her and Josh.
“She has gone into serious detail on some of the songs and it has helped her make sense of everything.
“It was obviously a very tough time but throwing herself into music has been an amazing help.
“It looks like her album could be her most political yet too, with talk of tracks covering issues like LGBT rights.
“Kylie just wants to make an album that will start conversations.”

Nadine Coyle signs to Virgin EMI

OHMYGOSSIP — Nadine Coyle has signed to Virgin EMI.
The Girls Aloud singer says it is a “dream come true” to have signed a solo deal with the label and she is looking forward to performing again.
She said: “I’m so excited to be releasing music again. I’m nervous but really happy to be sharing them finally. It’s a dream come true to sign a solo deal with a label that’s as brilliant as Virgin EMI. The team really share my vision for the album and I can’t wait to start performing again.”
And the 32-year-old singer knows she has “a lot to prove” with her comeback.
A source added to The Sun newspaper: “Nadine knows she has a lot to prove. The music industry has changed and Nadine wants support from streaming sites like Spotify and Apple Music. So signing a big deal with Virgin EMI makes perfect sense.”
It comes after a source teased Nadine was keen to make a comeback.
The insider said at the time: “Nadine has spent the last few years soul-searching and finally feels ready to have another crack at her solo career. She has been working with Brian and can’t wait to show people her material. There has even been talk of a Girls Aloud track on the album.”
In 2015, it was claimed Nadine has landed a record deal and was moving from Los Angeles to the UK so she could make her comeback.
A source shared: “Nadine is incredibly focused. She’s selling her LA restaurant and laying roots in the UK. She’s still a household name and wants to cash in on her singing abilities rather than turn to reality TV.”

Justin Bieber offers support to Cruz Beckham

OHMYGOSSIP — Justin Bieber is mentoring Cruz Beckham.
The 23-year-old superstar’s manager, Scooter Braun, has signed up the 12-year-old aspiring singer, and the ‘Sorry’ hitmaker has pledged to be “always around to give advice” to the youngster, as he thinks he has what it takes to make it big.
He said: “Cruz Beckham could be the next superstar, for sure. He has pretty talented parents in the first place and is a pretty talented kid – I back him completely.”
And Justin’s best piece of advice for Cruz is to “stay close” to his famous parents, David and Victoria Beckham.
He added to the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “He has been blessed with such great parents, so if he wants to break into the industry, my advice would be to stay close to them.
“Parents can stop you from doing dumb things and keep you on the right track.
“I’m always around to give advice when he needs it, but mum and dad will know best.”
Justin is also friends with Cruz’s older brother, 18-year-old photographer Brooklyn Beckham, and hailed his pal as a “really good guy”.
He added: “He is just a really chilled guy to be around.”
Ed Sheeran previously penned Justin’s hit single ‘Love Yourself’, and the Canadian pop star is hoping the 26-year-old singer will write some more tracks for him.
He said: “Ed makes these incredibly beautiful songs – music that can make you cry. He is a good friend, and hopefully he is going to write me some more songs.”
And it sounds as though the ‘Believe’ hitmaker is also keen to collaborate with former One Direction singer Zayn Malik, who he described as “my boy”.
He added: “I’m always listening to his songs.”

David Guetta’s timeless music

OHMYGOSSIP — David Guetta wants his music to be “timeless”.
The 49-year-old DJ likes to produce tracks that can be appreciated by any and all generations and he thinks he can do this by using the same underlying emotions behind them.
He said: “I’m trying to do something timeless. People always want to listen to something new, but at the same time emotions are always the same. There’s not a new emotion that is going to come out, because we are human beings.”
David has wanted to DJ since he was 12-years-old, which he admits was “crazy” as there were no famous DJs around then.
He added: “It’s so crazy because there was no famous DJ at the time. There was no glamour, there was no money, there was nothing like that. Mmm. I was just obsessed with music and I was very into the technical aspect of creating it. I don’t even understand it myself because my family were not musicians or anything …
“My mum thought that everything I was doing was very stupid. She was a communist so she felt like all this superficial life and chasing materialistic dreams were a waste of my time.”
Whilst his mother didn’t approve of his music beforehand, he believes she is “proud of his success” now.
He told the Financial Times newspaper: “Hmm, I think she’s proud of my success. She still feels the same about society. We would fight like crazy when I was young. I was like, ‘I’m going to be rebellious, I’m going to make money.’ That was me being a rebel to my parents. Isn’t that funny? My mum was almost disgusted that I was so business-oriented.”

DNCE don’t put pressure on themselves

OHMYGOSSIP — DNCE try not to put “any pressure” on themselves.
The group – which includes Joe Jonas, Jack Lawless, Cole Whittle and JinJoo Lee – rose to meteorological fame with their track ‘Cake By The Ocean’ but the band try not to think about their success too much or let it get to their head.
Bassist Cole said: “We make a point to not put any pressure on ourselves as a band with regards to traditional, success-related things.
“We don’t think about it too much because I think it squashes the art and it’s a waste of energy. We focus on having as much fun as possible, making the coolest thing we can think of and let other people worry about that stuff, so we didn’t feel any pressure.”
And the band never anticipated their first single would be as big as it was and have confessed they will never try to “beat” its success but instead just go out there and enjoy themselves.
Frontman Joe added: “I don’t know if we even had the idea that it would be as big as it was. Still, to this day, it’s being played all over – it’s a dream for us. It’s one of those songs that we would never try to beat because I think it would be literally impossible at this point.
“But we’re proud of it because it introduced our band to the world and if we can get away with a song about literally nothing that means we can write anything we want, which is encouraging as an artist.”
Meanwhile, Joe also revealed the group have a “goal” to get a new album out next year, followed by a huge world tour.
He told Music Week: “Schedule-wise, we’re not on a traditional tour until the fall, but we’re busy all year. We’ll just bounce around all summer, playing festivals and college shows. You name it, we’re probably going to be playing it. Our goal would be to release more music this year, another album by next year and then a big world tour at the top of the year.”

Blink-182 cancel gigs

OHMYGOSSIP — Blink-182 have cancelled their upcoming gigs following Chester Bennington’s suicide.
The ‘All the Small Things’ hitmakers had been due to share a stage with Linkin Park for their joint ‘Welcome to Blinkin Park’ concerts, but have been left “wrecked” by their friend’s death earlier this week and insist it wouldn’t be “possible” to perform without ‘Numb’ group.
The trio – comprising Mark Hoppus, Travis Barker and Matt Skiba – posted on Twitter: “Blink-182 is wrecked by the loss of our friend and amazing musician Chester Bennington. We could never imagine playing ‘Blinkin Park’ without his incredible talent and voice.
“It just would not be possible. We send our deepest sympathies to his family, bandmates, friends and fans. Refunds will be available at the place of purchase.”
The two bands had been due to headline two stadium shows later this month, with performances scheduled at Citi Field in Queens, New York, for July 30, and another at Hersheypark Stadium in Hershey, Pennsylvania, two days later.
The announcement comes after Linkin Park confirmed the North American leg of their ‘One More Light’ tour will not be going ahead.
A statement from promoters Live Nation read: “We are incredibly saddened to hear about the passing of Chester Bennington. The Linkin Park ‘One More Light North American Tour’ has been cancelled and refunds are available at point of purchase. Our thoughts go out to all those affected.”
Meanwhile, Chester’s band mates – Rob Bourdon, Brad Delson, Mike Shinoda, Dave Farrell, and Joe Hahn – have yet to release an official statement, as co-vocalist and co-founder Mike says they are too “heartbroken” to write one at this time.
He tweeted shortly after the news of Chester’s death was announced: “Shocked and heartbroken, but it’s true. An official statement will come out as soon as we have one.”

Lana Del Rey felt ‘stuck’ with her music

OHMYGOSSIP — Lana Del Rey felt “stuck in the same spot” with her last two albums.
The 32-year-old singer released her fourth studio album ‘Lust For Life’ on Friday (21.07.17) and has admitted her goal with the record was to feel as though she had “momentum”, as she was left feeling at a stand still after the release of 2014’s ‘Ultraviolence’ and 2015’s ‘Honeymoon’.
She said: “That was my goal, you know, to get to that place of feeling like in my daily life I had a lot of momentum. Like a moving-on-ness from wherever that other place was that ‘Honeymoon’ and ‘Ultraviolence’ came from. I loved those records, but I felt a little stuck in the same spot.”
The ‘Young and Beautiful’ hitmaker then revealed that in order to move on from her old sound, she made sure to “feel a little more present” in the world around her.
Speaking to NME magazine, Lana said: “I just felt a little more present. Writing a song like ’13 Beaches’ – it’s a little bit of an abstract notion, but for me it took stopping at 13 beaches one hot day to find one that nobody was at. And I just thought, you know, the concept of needing to find 13 beaches might seem like a luxury problem for someone, but that’s OK, I’m going to go with that.”
It isn’t just her more recent albums that Lana has made an effort to move away from either, as she previously admitted her new record is the “opposite” of her debut release ‘Born To Die’.
She said: “They’re complete opposites, and it’s funny because when I chose the title, I didn’t think about it right away. It was the title of the first song I wrote for this record. But there are so many things that have gotten me to the point that I’m at now. One of them is just time. And because I do write everything myself, I just wanted to chronicle how I was feeling honestly, in the moment, for each record.”
