Paris Hilton wants to release singles

OHMYGOSSIP — Paris Hilton would rather release singles than albums.
The 36-year-old socialite released her debut single ‘Stars Are Blind’ – which helped launch her current DJ career – in 2006, and whilst fans have been waiting for her sophomore album since the release of eponymously titled ‘Paris’ that same year, she has said she’s “focused on singles” for the time being.
Asked if she was recording another album, Paris said: “I’m mostly focused on just singles, I think that’s just how it is nowadays with the music industry. It’s not really about albums. So yeah I’ve been working on my second album forever, but I’m also running a huge business and doing a million other things.”
Back in 2013, it was reported that ‘The Simple Life’ star would be working with Afrojack in the production of her second studio venture, but Paris now says the songs were recorded so long ago that they’re now “unusable”.
When asked about her collaboration with Afrojack, she said: “I’ve worked with so many people. The sound is so different now. Back then, when we were doing the album together, that sound was amazing but now the sound has changed so much that I wasn’t really feeling the songs anymore. Music moves so fast nowadays that if you do a song a year ago, it’s going to be not the same as something that you do right now. Those songs are just unusable because we recorded them so many years ago. I want a newer, more fresh, like futuristic sound.”
However, Paris is currently focusing on her DJ career, and has said eventually she would love to open up her own festival, where she can do “something that involves charity”.
Speaking to Billboard magazine about her goals as a DJ, Paris said: “I love doing it and I’d love to keep playing and I would love to put together my own music festival one day, something that’s really special and fun and something that involves charity.”

Queens of the Stone Age recruit Mark Ronson to stop them becoming a ‘parody’

OHMYGOSSIP — Queens of the Stone Age wanted Mark Ronson to stop them becoming a “parody”.
The ‘No-One Knows’ rockers brought in the ‘Uptown Funk’ hitmaker to produce their new album ‘Villains’ because they thought he could help them find a fresh take on their classic sound.
Frontman Josh Homme explained to MOJO magazine: “If you’re lucky enough to have found a sound for yourself that’s individual, you need to be careful by the time you have seven records, you could easily become a parody or a cartoon character.
“Not everyone is blessed enough to be AC/DC or the Ramones. It was time to look hard at what was important about how we sound.
“In the beginning, I thought if all else fails Ronson could just serve as a talisman to remind me to be modern, our way.”
And Josh admitted he relished the idea that working with the producer would “confuse and dismay” people.
Explaining how the collaboration came about, he said: “I knew him casually and I knew he was a fan of the band.
“If nothing else, I thought, ‘This will confuse and dismay people’.
“My son was really into the song ‘Uptown Funk’, it’s so tight and vacuous and beat-centric. I thought, ‘Man, that could be a really good idea’.”
Before working on ‘Villain’, Josh produced Iggy Pop’s latest LP ‘Post-Pop Depression’ and one of the tracks on his own new record was originally intended for the veteran rocker’s album.
He explained:” ‘Feet Don’t Fail Me’ was one of the songs we began to work on for the Iggy record.
“We just felt we had enough songs in enough time, it didn’t ever get fully formed.
“In fact, Iggy wrote the lyrics, ‘Feet don’t fail me now’. So I said, ‘Is it cool I use that song and take that lyric?’ He was like, ‘Go for broke’.
“So, in that respect, there is a baton passed from the Iggy record to this.”

Y Not Festival cancelled due to ‘adverse weather conditions’

OHMYGOSSIP — Derbyshire’s Y Not Festival has been officially cancelled due to “adverse weather conditions.”
The music extravaganza – which was due to be headlined by Clean Bandit and The Vaccines – was supposed to continue today (30.07.17) but “the risk was too severe” after torrential rainfall swamped the site and organisers feared for the public’s safety.
The Vaccines cancelled their set after Clean Bandit scaled back their performance to a short DJ set, and in a new statement posted on the festival’s website said: “The safety of our guests, performers and crew is our primary concern and the potential risk was too severe for Sunday to go ahead. We are very sorry for the disappointment and disruption caused to everyone who was looking forward to the final day of the festival.”
They’ve also urged people to “calmly” pack up their tents and leave.
The statement continued: “We advise people to pack their tents and belongings and leave the site calmly over the course of the day. The event team, security, and stewards are here to help and assist.”
However, they promised to provide “welfare and food” to those who cannot leave until Monday (31.07.17).
It went on: “For those of you who are unable to leave site today, Y NOT will provide support in the form of campsites, welfare and food stalls which will be open and staffed throughout. If you are planning on staying, please do not pack up your tent and equipment.”
The organisers also said they would be providing all guests with further information about fefunds in the coming days.
Clean Bandit acknowledged the issues on Twitter but said they still had an amazing time.
They wrote: “Wow! So much rain today that we couldn’t set up our equipment and had to do a dj set/live PA, but you guys were amazing!!!”

Lars Ulrich promises Beats 1 show will bring them closer to fans

OHMYGOSSIP — Metallica’s Lars Ulrich says his Beats 1 radio show will bring them closer to their fans.
The 53-year-old drummer has promised they’ll reconnect with their supporters through the forthcoming pre-recorded episodes of the Apple Music show, in which he interviewed the group’s frontman James Hetfield, guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo.
He said: “I listened to Kirk’s episode yesterday, and it’s definitely unlike anything that Metallica fans have ever heard. Each of them put together a playlist that reflects certain elements of their past – stuff from back in the day and stuff that helped shape who they are musically – and I learned a lot.”
Recorded during the band’s ‘WorldWired’ tour, one hour has been dedicated to each member and they’ll air on Sundays at 6 p.m. EST on Apple Music’s Beats 1 radio.
Hammett’s episode will air today (30.07.17), Trujillo on August 6 and Hetfield on August 13th.
Speaking about Hammett, Ulrich said he has enjoyed learning about his musical influences.
He told Rolling Stone: “He has a very analytical mind about music. His cast the net very wide with his playlist, so it goes from Iron Maiden to the Beatles to John Coltrane to Radiohead.
“I’m not gonna b******t you. We don’t sit around and necessarily have conversations about John Coltrane on a day-to-day basis. So it’s fun for me to reconnect with all the fellas again … ”
But he was also keen to shine a light on unknown bands.
He added: “There’s an awful lot of great music out there – much more than I thought – that doesn’t really get a chance to be highlighted, because of the demise of the music business.
“I’ve been playing Brutus, who are great, from Belgium. There’s a fantastic band out of Denmark called Baby in Vain. There’s Counterfeit from England, who we’ve been playing a bunch. And there’s an amazing band who reside in the Bay Area but are from Afghanistan called Kabul Dreams, who I just love. Their story is unbelievable. So to get a chance to push that out to people is a really special thing.”

Chaka Khan ‘can’t stand’ the I Feel For You intro

OHMYGOSSIP — Chaka Khan “can’t stand” the intro to her song ‘I Feel For You’.
The 64-year-old singer admitted she “can’t live down” the iconic musical moment – which features rapper Melle Mel recite her name a number of times before the beat kicks in – because fans always chant it to her, but it’s never been something she ‘s enjoyed.
She told Gay Times: “I hated it and I still can’t live that down to this day.
“People still come up to me now and say, ‘Chaka Khan’ about three or four times.
“I can’t stand it any more, but it is what it is. And believe me, I’m definitely not hating on that song.”
Another of Chaka’s famous songs, ‘I’m Every Woman’, has been embraced as a feminist anthem, but she has insisted it was never written that way as she views it as “empowering” for everyone.
She explained: “In spite of the words, I don’t see it as a feminist thing.
“I see it as an empowerment song for everybody. You know, everybody feels empowered when I do that song. That’s my impetus when I’m singing it; it’s an empowerment song for men and women.”
Chaka released the track in 1978 but it’s taken until now for her to feel “comfortable” with the lyrics.
She added: “Believe me, I had to grow into those lyrics. I’m only just now comfortable singing them you know.”
The ‘Ain’t Nobody’ hitmaker also admitted it has “been a problem” trying to keep her most popular hits still fresh when she’s performing live, so she does her best to “put little spins on the songs to keep them alive” for her.

Justin Bieber won’t quit music

OHMYGOSSIP — Justin Bieber will record new music.
Although the 23-year-old musician recently axed the remainder of his ‘Purpose’ world tour in order to reportedly “rededicate his life to Christ” and focus on his religion, he has insisted that his faith won’t stop him from working on new material.
A source told TMZ that “music has always been a major release for Justin and he’s constantly in and out of studios working on new tunes”.
He also plans to return to touring but will not embark on such a lengthy world tour like ‘Purpose’ as it left him exhausted.
Previously, Hillsong Church pastor Carl Lentz described Justin as a “good Christian”, and quashed speculation the singer is paid to attend church events, as he insisted the star is simply using his faith to guide himself through new chapters in his life.
He said: “We don’t pay him to attend. He comes on his own.
“I think that Justin is a good Christian. I don’t think his problems are behind him, but we all have to deal with other stuff to come.
“His relationship with Jesus is changing his life daily. It is one of those things where you never really get it, it takes a while to keep growing as a person. Every day he is getting older, and with each chapter comes new growth… This is what conference is all about.
“Everyone here would buy a ticket and be a part of it. He feels like it is a big part of his year.”
Meanwhile, Justin’s tour cancellation was confirmed last week via a post uploaded to his website.
The statement read: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, Justin Bieber will cancel the remainder of the Purpose World Tour concerts. Justin loves his fans and hates to disappoint them. He thanks his fans for the incredible experience of the Purpose World Tour over last 18 months. He is grateful to have shared that experience with his cast and crew for over 150 successful shows across 6 continents during this run. However, after careful consideration he has decided he will not be performing any further dates. Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase.”

Alice Cooper: My best song is yet to come

OHMYGOSSIP — Alice Cooper doesn’t think he’s written his “best song” yet.
The 69-year-old rocker has enjoyed decades of success but is showing no signs of slowing down and wants to continue being creative and striving to do better with every record.
He said: “I’m sure Dylan doesn’t think he’s written his best song yet, nor Paul McCartney. And I believe my best song is still out there somewhere too.
“I don’t know how many years I’ve got left but as long as I’m here I’m going to do what I do best.”
And the ‘School’s Out’ hitmaker has no desire to retire because he still “belongs” on stage and both he and his wife Sheryl Goddard, one of his dancers, get “restless” if they take too much time off.
He told MOJO magazine: “I feel better now physically than I ever have in my life. I’ll get up on stage and do that show and be the only one who’s not breathing hard.
“I’m not making records now to build a new audience, I’m making records because there’s a huge fanbase around the world that wants to hear new songs.
“So why wouldn’t I make albums? It’s what I do. Why wouldn’t I go up on stage?
“I feel more at home on stage than just about anywhere else. It’s where I belong.
“If Sheryl and I go six months without a tour, we both get a little restless. And then in the middle of the tour we’re like, ‘We can’t wait for the tour to be over?’ I don’t have any desire to retire and I’m not going to go fishing. What am I gonna do?”

Selena Gomez ‘obsessed’ with Gucci Mane

OHMYGOSSIP — Selena Gomez is “obsessed” with Gucci Mane.
The pair previously worked together on 2012 movie ‘Spring Breakers’ and when Selena decided to release ‘Fetish’ as her new single, she knew she wanted Gucci to collaborate.
She told Dazed magazine: “Gucci is so cool. I’m obsessed with him, we worked on ‘Spring Breakers’ together and I asked him to be on the song. I hadn’t had seen him for a long time (but) when I asked he was like ‘Yeah fam! Let’s do it!’ He loves it.”
The evocative video for the new single was filmed by Selena’s pal Petra Collins and Selena was most excited by the kitchen scene where she ate soap, lipstick and glass.
She told Petra: “The kitchen scene was so liberating, to lose control of my body and lose sight of myself.
“I felt great and I felt like tomatoes, eggs and dirt and it was amazing, but seriously? I love that. It felt so good.
“I remember being a little nervous, and when s**t hit the wall – I just lost it and left myself in that scene. It was so cool. You were behind the camera, screaming.
“Um, I’m not saying I’ve ever done something similar to the kitchen scene in real life, but I can say right now, I do weird s**t all the time when I’m alone in my house.
“I love the video because it shows the very dirty, gross and weird love you can have towards someone. This is how obsessive some people get and how they release. I’m obsessed with these weird ASMR videos. I think about how our bodies react to sounds and movement.”

Marti Pellow quits Wet Wet Wet

OHMYGOSSIP — Marti Pellow has quit Wet Wet Wet.
The 52-year-old singer of the popular Scottish pop group – who had hits with ‘Love Is All Around’ and ‘Angel Eyes’ – has decided to focus on his solo career and does not see himself fronting the band for the “foreseeable future”
Announcing the news on Twitter, he wrote: “Hi all, wanted you to know for foreseeable future I’ll be concentrating on my solo work, am excited by the future and seeing you out there x (sic)”
Marti was the lead singer the group – also comprised of Tommy Cunningham and Neile Mitchell – for more than three decades, but says his “heart and soul” is no longer into it.
He explained to Music Week: “When I started in Wet Wet Wet I gave it 100% of my heart and soul and that’s what it demands and that is also what the fans demand – and if I can’t do that because my focus is elsewhere, then this is not fair on the fans or the rest of the guys in the band.”
Marti insists there are no bad feelings and he will always look back fondly on his time in the group.
He said: “I will be spending more time on my solo work – performing concerts, acting and my own songwriting – as an artist I feel a lot more settled in this world. I have had a great time and loved my career with Wet Wet Wet and to me they will always be the best band in the world.
Marti previously quit the group in 1999 after battling with a heroin addiction.
Speaking about being drug free, he said previously: “It was textbook. I couldn’t function without it. But there’s no romantic side to heroin – it’s no good.”
Following his first departure they disbanded, but reunited in March 2004 and they dropped their eighth studio LP ‘Timeless’ in 2007.
As for Marti’s solo career, his latest record ‘Mysterious’ was released in March.

Corey Taylor: Chad Kroeger is Captain Ego from Planet Douche

OHMYGOSSIP — Corey Taylor has labelled Chad Kroeger “Captain Ego from Planet Douche”.
The Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman insists he has nothing against Nickelback and that his problem lies with the ‘Photograph’ group’s 42-year-old frontman after he called his band a “gimmick” earlier this year.
Speaking to Philadelphia’s 93.3 WMMR radio station, Corey said: “That just tells you the level of ego you’re dealing with. “And I’ve said this since day one – it’s not the band. As soon as that story hit, the band called and apologised. They were like, ‘It’s not us, we promise. It’s this guy. We don’t…’ And I had hung out with the band before and they’re super-cool dudes.
“I don’t want people holding it against the band, because it’s not them. It’s Captain Ego from Planet Douche.”
The pair have been embroiled in a war of words after Chad called Stone Sour “Nickelback lite” during an interview.
Asked about their feud, Corey previously said: “I’m not talking about that d***head. Why do I give a s**t what Chad Kroeger says?
“I’ll tell you what. This is how I figured it out … Chad Kroeger is to rock what KFC is to chicken.
“Is that wrong? I feel like I’m not wrong. I’ll still eat it, but I’m not gonna feel good about it. It tastes like the same thing.”
However, the ‘Duality’ rocker has previously insisted that his animosity does not extend towards the other members of the Canadian rock group.
Speaking last month, the singer explained that he has no problem with Ryan Peake, Mike Kroeger, and Daniel Adair.
He shared: “Everybody else in that band I’m very, very cool with; I’ve hung out with them.
“It’s just ‘Face Like A Foot’ who I can’t really hang out with. He’s got a face like a foot. Am I wrong?”

The Killers unveil track-list for Wonderful Wonderful

OHMYGOSSIP — The Killers have unveiled the track-listing for their new album ‘Wonderful Wonderful’.
Brandon Flowers and co will release their first record in five years – the follow-up to 2012’s ‘Battle Born’ – on September 22 featuring lead single ‘The Man’ and latest single ‘Run For Cover’.
The deluxe version includes bonus track, ‘Money On Straight’ and a remix of ‘The Man’ by Duke Dumont and Jacques Lu Cont.
Meanwhile, further down the line there could be a Killers track featuring a member of the British royal family.
Prince Harry has been enjoying secret jam sessions with The Killers for the past 10 years.
The 32-year-old hunk is a huge fan of the US band and has become so close its members that he often catches up with them after UK gigs to party into the early hours.
Speaking on The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre Life podcast, drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr said: “He just showed up at a show one time and we got along. I mean, it’s been 10 years I guess. There’s been a lot of long nights.
“It’s safe to say we didn’t grow up with the sort of bedazzlement of having a Royal Family or anything, so I wasn’t educated in what it means to know these people first. Maybe that’s what made things cool. It was just like, ‘Hey, man’.”
And Harry is not the only royal who has hung out with the band.
Ronnie added: “There have been cousins and things like that from the family and they’re all just regular dudes and nice people.”
Earlier this month, Harry partied at the ‘Smile Like You Mean It’ rockers’ British Summer Time headline show at London’s Hyde Park, and looked to be having a whale of a time despite being without his girlfriend Meghan Markle.
Harry was spotted enjoying time with pals at the event, where he guzzled beer and took selfies with friends.
The Killers wowed the crowd with their huge hits, including ‘Somebody Told Me’, ‘Human’ and ‘Mr. Brightside’.
The ‘Wonderful Wonderful’ track-list is as follows:
1. ‘Wonderful Wonderful’
2. ‘The Man’
3. ‘Rut’
4. ‘Life To Come’
5. ‘Run For Cover’
6. ‘Tyson vs Douglas’
7. ‘Some Kind Of Love’
8. ‘Out Of My Mind’
9. ‘The Calling’
10. ‘Have All The Songs Been Written?’

Jessie Ware collaborates with Ed Sheeran on new album

OHMYGOSSIP — Jessie Ware has collaborated with Ed Sheeran for her first record in three years.
The ‘Champagne Kisses’ singer returned with her first single in two years ‘Midnight’ last night, which is the lead single from her third studio album, which is due for release later this year.
The 32-year-old star says while the track saw her step outside of her comfort zone she felt surprisingly confident with the results.
Jessie said of the song: “[‘Midnight]’ is the song I’ve always wanted to be able to sing but perhaps didn’t have the confidence until now.”
As well as working with the ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker, the brunette beauty has penned tracks with Felix and Hugo White formerly of The Maccabees and long-term collaborator and close friend Benny Blanco.
Jessie was hard at work on her album whilst she was pregnant with her first child, a baby girl who was born in September last year.
The ‘Wildest Moments’ hitmaker had long wanted to start a family but put her plans on hold to complete her record and finish her tour in 2014.
Of her desire to become a mother, Jessie said at the time: “We’re just working out the best time to pop one [a baby] out!”
As for her forthcoming album, Jessie previously admitted it would be “dull” if she penned songs about her relationship with husband Sam Burrows, who she first met as a kid at a co-educational independent school in Dulwich.
Of her album, ‘Tough Love’, she said: “A lot of the songs are fantasy and embellished thoughts where I’m telling a story.
‘I absolutely think that if I wrote a full album about our relationship it would be so dull because we don’t fight and are easy going!”

Ed Sheeran always dreamed of having a Mercury Award nominated album

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran’s ultimate “dream” was to have a Mercury Award nominated album.
The 26-year-old singer and songwriter has been nominated for the 2017 Hyundai Mercury Prize Album of the Year Award for his album ‘Divide’, which features the tracks ‘Castle on the Hill’, ‘ Shape of You’, and ‘Nancy Mulligan’, and the star felt honoured when he woke up to find he had been shortlisted for the gong on Thursday (27.07.17).
Speaking about the accolade on his Instagram account, the flame-haired musician wrote: “My dream when I first started music was to sell out Shepherd’s Bush empire and have a Mercury nominated album. Did the latter on the first album but have never been nominated on either album so just assumed it would ever happen as I’m aware, I’m not the most critically acclaimed artist out there. But today, low and behold, woke up to find out Divide has been shortlisted. (sic).”
The ‘A Team’ hitmaker will go up against grime artist Stormzy for his debut LP ‘Gang Signs & Prayer’, songwriter Sampha – whose full name is Sampha Sisay – for his debut album ‘Process’ and The XX’s ‘I See You’ for the award, but he already believes he has no chance of winning.
His post continued: “Now I’m aware I won’t win, but to be put on the shortlist is a real honour (sic).”
And the star has revealed the news is something his current and younger self is “very happy and proud” about.
His post concluded: “And something that makes both 26 year old me and 13 year old me very happy and proud. So thank you to whoever put me up for it, I’m sorry I can’t make the ceremony as I am still touring the USA. But thank you. You rock x (sic).”
The awards show will take place on September 14 at the Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith, in London and will be broadcast on BBC Four and BBC Radio 6 Music.

Lana Del Rey met Sean Lennon on FaceTime

OHMYGOSSIP — Lana Del Rey FaceTimed Sean Lennon to ask him to feature on her song ‘Tomorrow Never Came’.
The 32-year-old pop star’s song from her album ‘Lust for Life’ features a line about the 41-year-old singer’s famous parents, late Beatles legend John Lennon and Yoko Ono, and Lana admits she was “super-nervous” about speaking with Sean in a video conference but she’s glad she did as he was thrilled with the offer.
She said: “That was the only one I thought was not ‘my’ song or not for myself. I wasn’t really thinking about anyone in particular when I wrote it.
“I had my little lyric about (John) Lennon and Yoko and I thought, ‘I wonder whether Sean would feel comfortable singing on a song where I shout out his parents?’
“So I got his number and I FaceTimed him. I didn’t know him, so I was super-nervous.
“But as soon as he answered, he was just so excited.
“Then I was so proud that I’d followed my heart and I felt really rewarded for that.
“He has become such a sweet friend since then.
“And doesn’t he sound like his dad on the song? He sounds like himself but like his dad too. Rick also said that to him.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Video Games’ hitmaker has revealed that The Weeknd wasn’t originally on album titled track ‘Lust for Life’, but that he made the song feel complete.
She told The Sun newspaper: “That song changed quite a few times in the process from when it was first written until now.
“We got Abel (Tesfaye, aka The Weeknd) to come down and feature on it. In the beginning, it had more a ‘Blade Runner’ feel and less of a Shangri-Las feeling.
“A year went by and I realised that song didn’t feel like it was done. We started reproducing it to have more of a 60s feel.
“I don’t know if that was because we’d written (first single) ‘Love’ at that time, which had a nice throwback feeling.
“I thought the whole record was going to feel that way originally.”

Miranda Lambert praises powerful U2

OHMYGOSSIP — Miranda Lambert says she had a transformative experience at a U2 concert.
The 33-year-old singer recently attended the group’s gig in Louisville, Kentucky’s Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium on their ‘Joshua Tree’ tour and called it extremely “powerful”.
She told Billboard: “Stadium shows are hard. I’m like, ‘S**t, man. I just walked a million miles, I couldn’t get an Uber, and my beer’s hot,’ but I left there feeling uplifted, exhausted and stimulated all at the same time. I grew up singing country music and haven’t gone to many rock shows. I didn’t know just how powerful four dudes up there on this giant stage could be. I couldn’t even see Bono, but I felt every single word of every song.”
Meanwhile, Miranda also revealed that she has no plans to get political with her own music as she doesn’t want to use her platform to share her own opinions.
She said: “I’m a country singer. We talk about tears in our beers.
“I am a 100 percent believer in not ever using the platform that I’ve built for anything other than music, because music to me is an escape from your own reality. I don’t want to go to a show and hear somebody preach about their opinions.
“It’s so divided [in politics], you can’t win anyway – and what are you winning? For someone to agree with you, and now you’ve spoken your piece and p****d off many other people, just for one person to go, ‘She’s right’? It doesn’t do any good.”
