Sia to release Christmas LP after signing with Atlantic Records

OHMYGOSSIP — Sia has inked a deal with Atlantic Records and is set to release a festive album this Christmas.
The ‘Cheap Thrills’ hitmaker has her own label, Monkey Puzzle, but 2014’s ‘1000 Forms Of Fear and 2016’s ‘This Is Acting’ are licensed through Sony.
The 41-year-old pop star – who is famous for hiding her face under a huge wig for anonymity – has also been working on a record of original songs with Adele’s producer Greg Kurstin, which is set to drop later this year.
Atlantic Records said in a statement: “Sia is a once-in-a-generation artist. Her extraordinary gifts as a singer and songwriter, her revolutionary approach to the art of performing, her groundbreaking videos – everything she does comes from a deep wellspring of inspiration and imagination.
“Sia is that rare artist who has formed her own singular, boundless musical universe. We are so happy to welcome her into the Atlantic family and to be joining Sia on her amazing musical journey.”
Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that Dannii Minogue has been working with Sia on her comeback, which could mean she has contributed to the Xmas-themed LP.
On releasing new music around Christmas time, the 45-year-old former ‘X Factor’ judge – who is the young sister of pop princess Kylie Minogue – said: “Between now and Christmas, I will be dropping more music.”

I have channeled my feelings of severe hopelessness and depression, I’ve overcome obstacles, and I have found strength in myself even when it felt out of reach. I’ve found what I had thought was an unobtainable place of peace. This song is about coming to feel empathy for someone else even if they hurt you or scare you. Charli XCX: Female pop stars are more vocal

OHMYGOSSIP — Charli XCX thinks women are “more vocal” about their opinions and more “in control” of their careers than ever before.
The ‘Boys’ hitmaker has learned from her time in the music industry that it’s important to have your own voice and not let record labels or men in suits have the last say on choices made about your image or music.
Charli, 24, has praised her fellow female pop stars for standing up for themselves and taking charge of their careers.
She said: “I think a lot of females in the industry are so vocal about their opinions on feminism and their experience in the music industry and I think a lot of female artists and artists in general are so much more in control of their own career now.
“Audiences are more intelligent, fans are cleverer, they understand the marketing and putting together of the pop star and they want somebody who is real and genuine and fun. Not somebody who is built up, so I think artists have to take control and really run their own game to be successful.”
The ‘Boom Clap’ singer is known for wearing racy outfits and doing risque dance routines on stage, but she says that is all her doing and if a man ever told her how to dress she wouldn’t be happy with that.
Speaking on BBC Radio 1’s Breakfast Show on Tuesday morning (01.08.17), she said: “Throughout my career I’ve been very vocal on my opinion about being a woman in the music industry.
“I get asked questions about feminism all the time … I’m not somebody who is worried about wearing revealing outfits or performing provocatively on stage – as long as that’s my choice I’m completely happy to do it.
“The second it is an instruction from a man or a record label then it’s not cool, but otherwise it’s good.”

Liam Gallagher: Oasis couldn’t work with two Liams or Noels

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher says Oasis wouldn’t have worked with “two Noels or two Liams”.
The ‘Some Might Say’ group’s frontman says despite being his older sibling Noel Gallagher’s bitter rival, the constant clashing is what made the Britpop group – which came to an abrupt end in August 2009 following a backstage fight between the pair before a Paris festival performance – so legendary.
The 44-year-old rocker admits that he left the 50-year-old guitarist to do most of the “graft”, including writing most of the songs, while he would live the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle and “undo the graft”, however he says that is what was key to their success.
Asked whether just performing Oasis songs was sufficient for him, Liam told the latest issue of GQ magazine: “Always. Honestly. I knew the score. That was Noel’s thing. My thing was the whole cliché: the sex, the drugs, the rock’n’roll.
“I lived it, mate. I was it. And that’s why Oasis worked. We couldn’t have both been boring f***s and neither could we have both been headcases like me.
“And I know how much it annoyed him. He did the graft while I went out and undid the graft. But Oasis wouldn’t have worked with two Liams or two Noels.
“The Rolling Stones wouldn’t have worked if they were nuns, would they?”
The ‘Wall of Glass’ singer – who is gearing up to release his debut solo album ‘As You Were’ later this year – then confirmed Noel’s recent comments that he might lead the rock star life but Liam is the “rock star”.
He added: “Listen, I’m sorry he got dealt the card he did to write the songs, but who’s the one with eight houses now? As he says himself, he might have the rock-star life, but who is the real rock star here?”
It comes after Noel said: “I live a rock star life… But I’m not sure that I’m a rock star.
“Liam’s a rock star. Do you know what I mean?”

Jay-Z hails Chris Martin a ‘modern day Shakespeare’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jay-Z has hailed Coldplay’s Chris Martin a “modern day Shakespeare”.
The 31-year-old hip-hop star is close pals with the ‘Everglow’ hitmaker and his ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow but he says that doesn’t make him biased when it comes to the 40-year-old singer being one of the best frontmen and songwriters around.
Speaking to the Metro newspaper, Jay said: “I have been in the industry long enough to know when I’m in the presence of a genius and Chris Martin is just that”, he opened up.
“In years to come, Britain will look back at him as a modern day Shakespeare. He is an incredible recording artist, an incredible songwriter, but where he really comes alive is performing live. If you get the chance to see Coldplay live, do it – you ain’t gonna regret it.”
The pair previously teamed up on the song ‘Beach Chair’from Jay’s 2006 album ‘Kingdom Come’ and Jay’s wife Beyonce featured Coldplay’s track ‘Hymn For The Weekend’ from their latest album ‘A Head Full of Dreams’.
Both Jay and Chris have been added to the line-up for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge Month as part of the UK station’s 50th birthday.
The ’99 Problems’ rapper – who recently made his comeback with studio album ‘4.44’, his first in four years -will performing covers live on air on September 22, with the biggest names in music including Miley Cyrus and Harry Styles also set to join host Clara Amfo throughout the month.
Clara said: “This year’s Live Lounge Month has me more excited for our listeners than ever. From L.A. back to our studios in the UK, there is 50 great years of Radio 1 to celebrate with all of the artists and I can’t wait for it to kick off!”

OHMYGOSSIP — R. Kelly has cancelled four of his upcoming tour dates.
The 50-year-old singer has axed a quartet of shows, two in Louisiana, one in Los Angeles and one in Dallas, which were among 10 forthcoming concerts scheduled for his ‘After Party Tour’.
Sources told gossip website TMZ the ‘I Believe I Can Fly’ hitmaker’s dates were shut down due to poor ticket sales.
However, insiders close to the star have insisted his LA show was only dropped because of a scheduling issue.
This comes after R. Kelly – real name Robert Kelly – is said to have performed at Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater in Virginia Beach on Friday (28.07.17) to a barely half-full venue.
He tweeted afterwards: “VIRGINIA BEACH showed love last night.Grateful 4 all my fans supportin & lovin’ on ya boy for 30yrs. BALTIMORE…time 2 turn up! See U soon. (sic)”

Katy Perry giving away tour tickets to charitable fans

OHMYGOSSIP — Katy Perry is giving away concert tickets to fans who help donate supplies to their local Boys & Girls Club of America.
The 32-year-old singer has teamed up with the national organisation – which helps provide after-school programs to young people across America – through social-action platform Global Citizen, to encourage people to donate both time and supplies to their local club.
Fans of the ‘Chained To The Rhythm’ hitmaker that sign up to the scheme on Global Citizen’s website and then donate supplies to their local Boys & Girls Club will be entered into a prize draw to win a pair of general admission tickets to Katy’s ‘WITNESS: The Tour’.
If fans are able to go the extra mile and actually volunteer at their local club, they will be entered into another prize draw, where they have the chance to win a pair of VIP tickets to the tour and a meet-and-greet with Katy.
In a statement announcing the partnership, the ‘Bon Appetite’ singer said: “I’m a firm believer that actions speak louder than tweets. I think we’re all looking for a way to make real change beyond just donating our loose change.”
And in a post on the organisation’s website, fans are encouraged to help young people “reach their full potential.”
The post reads: “In partnership with Katy on her new “Witness” album and tour, we #WitnessTheFuture where all young people, especially those who need us most, can reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
“You could win tickets to Katy’s 2017-2018 tour in a city near you by getting involved with Boys & Girls Clubs and showing your support! (sic)”
Meanwhile, Katy recently said she is striving to remain “authentic”, even if the process is “painful”.
She said: “I’m evolving and learning at the same time … I try to stay my most authentic self. That can be hard. Authenticity is not always pretty. Sometimes it is messy, sometimes it is strange, sometimes it’s painful.”

Newton Faulkner announces new LP

OHMYGOSSIP — Newton Faulkner has announced a new album.
The ‘Dream Catch Me’ hitmaker will release ‘Hit The Ground Running’ on September 1, which is almost a decade to the day he dropped his debut LP ‘Hand Built By Robots’.
This time round, the flam-haired star wanted the focus to be on his voice rather than the guitar and he also wrote all of the songs himself instead of recruiting co-writers, on the advice of his brother.
On the album titled lead single, which is out now, “Newton said: “In the past I have mainly focused on pushing my guitar playing, on this album and particularly the first single, I decided to focus on my voice. On the last few albums, there were quite a few co-writes but on this one my brother forced me to write mostly on my own and this song is one of the ones that came out of that. It’s about messing things up but keeping moving forwards. I happen to have a reasonable amount of experience in both.”
And on his sixth record, he added: “I started working this album with two main principles in mind. One, I wanted it to be at its best performed solo live and two, I wanted to push my voice further than before. With the songwriting, I just wanted to do what I do naturally and not try and be clever and try and predict or follow any trends. The same went for the production, and from that, I feel like I’ve finally found my recorded sound.”
Newton, 32, performs at Boardmasters festival in Newquay, Cornwall on August 11, where he will no doubt share some of the new songs with his fans.
He then embarks on an extensive UK headline tour, kicking off in Belfast, Ireland on October 14 and wrapping up in Worthing, West Sussex on December 1.
‘Hit The Ground Running’ track-listing is as follows:
1. ‘Smoked Ice Cream’
2. ‘Hit The Ground Running’
3. ‘All She Needs’
4. ‘Been Here Before’
5. Finger Tips
6. ‘Guitar-y Thing’
7. ‘There Is Still Time’
8. ‘Alright’
9. ‘The Good Fight’
10. ‘This Kind Of Love’
11. ‘Never Alone’
12. ‘So Long’
13. ‘Carry You’
14. ‘Don’t Understand’

Rag ‘n’ Bone Man open to more collaborations

OHMYGOSSIP — Rag ‘n’ Bone Man is open to more collaborations after teaming up with Gorillaz for ‘The Apprentice’ on their LP ‘Humanz’.
The 32-year-old soul singer – whose real name is Rory Graham – was joined by the likes of Noel Gallagher, De La Soul, Grace Jones and Pusha T in contributing to the Damon Albarn’s animated band’s comeback record and being involved has made him eager to work with other people.
Speaking about releasing new music, following his critically-acclaimed debut LP ‘Human’, he said: “I don’t know exactly when, I know I just have put out my album. I’m kind of hoping for the odd collaboration here and there.”
The ‘Skin’ hitmaker says he was blown away by the Blur frontman’s unusual songwriting ability.
He told ABC Radio: “The way he writes lyrics and melodies and stuff is not in the way that I’ve ever seen anyone do it before. It definitely made me think. It was a thought-provoking experience.”
Rory is currently touring in the US trying to crack the country, but he says all he can do is stay true to his honest music and perform with his heart and soul.
He said: “I try to put into it everything I can. I sing the songs emotionally the way I felt they should be sung when I wrote them, and I want people to connect with them.
“There’s no smoke and mirrors, no bells and whistles. It’s not about that. It’s simply me singing the songs the way I think they should be sung. I’m putting my heart and soul into every live show.”

Dannii Minogue set for pop comeback

OHMYGOSSIP — Dannii Minogue is set to make her comeback with a new single next month.
The 44-year-old Australian singer – who is the young sister of pop princess Kylie Minogue – hasn’t released new music since 2015 single ‘Summer of Love’, but has been working on new material set to be released later this year.
However, her next song is likely to be premiered at her performance as part of the 40th anniversary of her former record label Central Station Records on August 11.
The former ‘X Factor’ judge is also believed to have teamed up with ‘Cheap Thrills’ hitmaker and fellow Australian Sia – who was heavily involved in her older sister Kylie’s 2014 record ‘Kiss Me Once’ – on her comeback.
Teasing the new single, Dannii said told Australia’s Herald Sun: “Between now and Christmas, I will be dropping more music.”
The brunette beauty hasn’t brought out a record since 2007’s ‘Club Disco’ LP, and since then she has been trying to adjust to how the music industry works now.
She said in 2015: “I’m trying to take it all on board and navigate everything that’s going on. I definitely have the bug again.”
Dannii has realised just how much the rise in digital music has transformed the way records are produced and promoted, but she believes one thing that hasn’t altered is that it still “comes down to making music you love”.
She said previously: “The music industry has changed beyond recognition since I last had a record out. It’s all downloads and online now. But it still comes down to making music you love.”
The ‘Perfection’ hitmaker previously said that something was “holding her back” from returning to her pop music career, but now she is “settled” she is ready to start again.
She said: “I’ve been wanting to do music for ages but something was holding me back.
“Now I feel really settled. I feel like I’m in a personal space where I can do it and it’s going to be fun.”

Diplo was clueless to who Fifth Harmony were

OHMYGOSSIP — Diplo was oblivious to who Fifth Harmony were when he started working with Camila Cabello.
The 20-year-old singer quit the group in December 2016 to focus on her solo career, but had already teamed up with the Major Lazer star to work on her own material before she decided to leave.
Diplo – whose real name is Thomas Pentz – had no preconceptions of the Cuban beauty’s talent because he wasn’t familiar with the ‘Work from Home’ hitmakers until he’d met Camila.
However, he was blown away by her capabilities.
Of working with the ‘Crying in the Club’ hitmaker, the producer said: “We love Camila and she’s been working with us for a while, even before she left Fifth Harmony, and I just thought she is dope.
“She came and met me in Miami and I didn’t know who she was or what band she was in, I was just told she’s into music.
“I just she’s really talented.”
The pair teamed up with rapper Travis Scott for ‘Known No Better’, but it wasn’t the easiest of collaborations and they got over some hurdles along the way.
Travis, 25 – who is dating reality star Kylie Jenner – was hit with technical glitches with his computer dying on him, but Diplo says it was a real honour to work with the “high-in-demand” rapper.
Diplo told the Daily Star newspaper: “Travis Scott was hard to get on the record.
“His computer broke whilst we were recording, his mic died and I had to keep going to his house to wake him up at like two in the afternoon.
“That guy’s prolific, he has a lot of love and he’s a really hard worker but he’s just in demand right now.
“It was cool getting to do something like this with him though.”

Little Mix still pursuing documentary

OHMYGOSSIP — Little Mix are still in talks for a movie about their lives.
The British girl group – comprised of Jesy Nelson, Jade Thirlwall, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Perrie Edwards – have previously spoken about their plans to release a documentary so that their fans, known as Mixers, can learn details about their lives that they’ve never lifted the lid on before.
However, they are waiting for the right deal to come along because they want the footage they have to be used properly.
Jesy, 26, told The Daily Telegraph Australia: “We’ve thought about it a lot.
“We are in talks about it, it has just got to be right. We have got some proper class footage that no one has ever seen. It’s stuff that you’d never see Little Mix be like.”
The ‘Power’ hitmakers said last year they were planning to have a cameraman on the road with them to capture their life on tour.
Jesy said last year: “We are in talks at the moment. We really want to do a documentary as we feel people do not know much about us.
“They know our songs and have seen us perform but they don’t know our personalities, so we would love to do a documentary.
“We want to get someone to follow us around on this whole tour for a whole year.”
But Leigh-Anne, also 25, was concerned they won’t enjoy having cameras following them everywhere they go, but admitted it “will be good” for fans to get a first hand look at the “drama” in their lives.
She added: “Maybe we are saying this now but when it comes to it and the camera is being rammed in our faces we will be like, ‘Leave us alone’.
“And the drama. There is always drama in our lives.
“Honestly we actually don’t ever get it on camera, do we? So that will be good for people to see that.”

Miley Cyrus wants to duet with sister Noah

OHMYGOSSIP — Miley Cyrus wants to collaborate with her sister Noah – but she won’t answer her messages.
The ‘Malibu’ singer would love to do a duet with her younger sibling but has admitted they have barely any contact with one another, not even via cell phone.
When asked by a fan, “Can you text Noah and tell her that the two of you need to record a song together?”, during an Ask Anything chat with iHeartRadio, Miley said: “Ugh, if she’d ever text me back.”
The 24-year-old singer later added: “Yeah, I text Noah all the time, and she never texts me back.”
Noah, 17, recently admitted she is “proud” to be Miley’s sister and get the chance to hang out with her at big events, but she isn’t thrilled by the comparisons between them.
She said: “I’m so proud that Miley is my big sister, and to be able to go to these big radio shows and hang out with her. Of course no one wants to be compared to another person. But it’s like, if a person can only see me for my sister, then that’s really their problem.”
The ‘Chasing Colors’ singer – who released her debut single ‘Make Me (Cry)’ featuring Labrinth in 2016 – also revealed her famous dad Billy Ray Cyrus could have a song on her forthcoming record.
She said: “Hopefully it will be done by this fall. I worked with so many amazing co-writers and producers on it. My dad might have a song on the album. I’m so blessed for this whole thing. I worked with some really talented, experienced writers.”

The Strokes: New album is years away

OHMYGOSSIP — The Strokes insists a new album plan would be “years away, if at all”.
The ‘You Only Live Once’ hitmakers’ fans had started to get excited recently after band member Albert Hammond Jr.’s father revealed the group were recording their sixth studio album with producer Rick Rubin, but they’ve now insisted that is not the case.
Albert wrote on Twitter: “Sorry everyone we are not in the studio recording
“Forgive Albert Sr he got prematurely excited. A lot of unknowns and nothing worth speaking about at this time.
“We met and played a few music ideas for Rick to feel out a vibe but even a theoretical album plan would be years away, if at all. (sic)”
It comes after Albert Hammond Sr. recently claimed the group – also made up of Julian Casablancas, Nick Valensi, Nikolai Fraiture and Fabrizio Moretti – are “so happy” recording a follow up to 2013’s ‘Comedown Machine’.
He said: “They’re making a new album now with a great producer called Rick Rubin. I speak to my son every day and he says that they’re so happy.”
The band’s frontman Julian confirmed Albert Jr.’s statement on Twitter, admitting it was “true”, but did reveal new music from his side-project the Voidz will be out soon.
He wrote: “Gearing up for the Voidz actually. Will have some new music for everyone to publicly judge soon.”
He also joked: “(What Albert Sr meant to say is we are working with NBA point guard Ricky Rubio on a new offense for our basketball league) (sic)”
