Dolly Parton to release first children’s LP

OHMYGOSSIP — Dolly Parton has recorded her first-ever children’s album.
The country music legend is set to release her 44th LP ‘I Believe In You’ on October 13 and this time the songs have been made for a younger audience.
The record arrives less than a year after 2016’s ‘Pure & Simple’ and comes five decades after the release of her debut alum ‘Hello, I’m Dolly’.
Proceeds will be going to the ‘Jolene’ hitmaker’s charity Imagination Library, which promotes early childhood literacy and provides free age appropriate books for youngster from birth to the age of five.
Dolly, 71, said: “My first album was released 50 years ago and it’s been an amazing 50 years since then.
“I am very excited that now I’m coming out with my first children’s album in all of those 50 years.
“I’m proudest of all that all of the proceeds from this CD will go to the Imagination Library.
“It’s been 20 years since the Imagination Library was launched.
“We’ve seen 100 million books get into the hands of children and hopefully there will be many more.”
All of the tracks have been written by the ‘9 to 5’ singer and the record also comes with an audio book narrated by the buxom blonde.
Dolly – who founded Imagination Library in 1996 – recently said she tries to “uplift mankind” with her music and live performances.
She explained: “I go out there to perform, I hope to uplift mankind, glorify God and just have a big time myself.”

Joe Elliott: The infrastructure isn’t there for new acts to succeed

OHMYGOSSIP — Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott says young bands don’t have the “infrastructure” in place to sell millions of records.
The 58-year-old rocker has sold over 100 million albums worldwide during the legendary Sheffield rock band’s career spanning four decades, but he says the music industry is in a sorry state with emerging talent unable to make big bucks unless they are pop megastars like Adele or Taylor Swift.
The ‘Pour Some Sugar On Me’ hitmaker thinks MTV having more of a focus on reality TV than music videos is partly to blame.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: “The only people selling records the way we used to are Adele and Taylor Swift.
“But the infrastructure isn’t laid out for them like it was for us. MTV was primed and ready to be picked like an apple in an orchard in the 80s – now it’s a reality TV channel.”
Joe previously said that musicians nowadays spend too much time on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, time which they could spend honing their songs, and he is “glad” the medium wasn’t around when the hard rock band started out in 1977.
He said: “I’m glad it wasn’t around when we started, purely because it gave us more opportunity to concentrate on what we really wanted to be. It wasn’t, like, ‘We can’t rehearse today because we’ve got to answer all these questions.’ I think that actually is one of the reasons there aren’t so many bands coming through the way that we did – they have other tasks they have to perform that we didn’t.”
The singer doesn’t think he’d have been “as good” a singer if he’d spent his time at the start of his career responding to tweets rather than rehearsing with his bandmates.
He continued: “We learned to play our instruments, we learned to sing, we learned to write songs together, and that was our only focus. Once we got that down, and then if other stuff comes in, you can probably split your time and manage to do both.
“For me, I’m not sure I would have been as good if I was starting off the way it is now. It would have been too much of an interference.”

Alice Cooper: Young rockers are too introverted

OHMYGOSSIP — Alice Cooper is concerned by the state of rock music.
The 69-year-old icon has admitted to being worried about the future direction of the genre, saying young rockers are far too “introverted” for his liking.
He explained: “It concerns me that even the rock bands that are out there are very introverted.
“The young rock bands don’t wanna be outlaws – they don’t have any swagger on stage.
“I mean, if I was 18 years old and I’m in a rock band I would wanna show my stuff up there! Young bands seem to be very introverted about that.”
Alice argued that the rockers of today are markedly different to the artists of his generation.
He said, too, that younger performers are failing to stage a real show for their fans.
Speaking to KSHE radio station, Alice shared: “You know, Guns N’ Roses, Motley Crue, Alice Cooper, Aerosmith … We came up in an age when you had to compete with Mick Jagger. And Mick Jagger was the king of swagger.
“That’s the way I’ve always looked at it. Give the audience a great show. You’re in the most exciting music in the world, give them a show!
“And that just doesn’t seem to exist with young bands.”
What’s more, Alice admitted to being baffled by the attitude of younger acts.
He added: “I don’t get it. I think that it will be a retro thing.
“I think young bands will start getting tired of being introverted.”

John Mayer’s song tears

OHMYGOSSIP — John Mayer took “days and days” to record one line for a song because he couldn’t stop crying.
The 39-year-old singer – who has dated Taylor Swift and Katy Perry in the past – insists he will never be able to play heartbreak song ‘Never on the Day You Leave’, from his latest album ‘The Search For Everything’, live because the “brutal” lyrics make him break down.
He said: “There’s a line in there that is so brutal because it’s so true and I can’t play the song live because I don’t think I’d make it through it.
“Every time I sang that line, I would cry in the middle of that line.
“It took me days and days and days to be able to sing that line for the record, and get through it without crying.”
The line in the song, which only took John 20 minutes to write, he is referring to reads: “She’ll fight for you like hell, then force herself to like some other man.”
John didn’t name the ex he’s written about but admits he recently had an “amicable” conversation with her following their “hard” break up.
Speaking on SiriusXM Radio’s ‘The Highway’ show, he added: “Not long ago, I ran into my ex. It was very amicable. And I had this beautiful moment where I said, ‘A lot of it’s me.’
“A lot of it is in my head, you know. Like, something happened to me and it’s just the way I work. It’s the way my mind is and I took it really hard. And that took a long time to be able to admit.”
Earlier this month, John was romantically linked to actress Amy Schumer, and the pair are said to have gone on a few dates.

Elvis Presley’s beloved grand piano up for auction

OHMYGOSSIP — Elvis Presley’s beloved baby grand piano is to be auctioned on eBay.
The instrument – an iconic Wm Knabe & Co piano – widely known as the Elvis White Piano, was built in 1912 and installed in the Music Room at the late rock ‘n’ roll icon’s Graceland mansion for 12 years between 1957 and 1969.
It was regularly played and loved by the King of Rock and Roll and his many celebrity pals.
To mark 40 years since his passing on August 16, memorabilia from the ‘All Shook Up’ hitmaker, has been increasingly in demand with almost 40,000 Elvis-related items sold on eBay.co.uk over the last three months – that’s more than nine every half an hour.
The auction has been organised for charity which enables sellers to list items to benefit non-profit organisations.
To honour Elvis’ legacy, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Minnesota-based Starkey Hearing Foundation, which conducts hearing missions around the globe and has given the gift of hearing aids to over 100 countries.
It appears that Elvis fans are keen to get a piece of the King with more than 537,000 searches for items this year alone.
The most popular items sold include tickets to a tribute show in Las Vegas, photos of Priscilla Presley and a DVD of Elvis in concert.
The piano will be on sale for 10 days, ending on August 20.
Fans can access the auction at eBay.com/elvispiano.

Kasabian want to work with Eminem

OHMYGOSSIP — Kasabian want to collaborate with Eminem.
The ‘Fire’ hitmakers will be performing at Reading and Leeds Festivals later this month along with Muse and the American rapper and Guitarist Serge Pizzorno says they’d love to work with both acts at some point.
He said: “One day, I’d love to work with Eminem.
“I’ve got bags full that are perfect for him. He’s such an incredible artist. His flow is just… f**k man.
“That first album for me is massive. Muse are just a juggernaut, aren’t they?
“I have so much respect for those boys as just unbelievable musicians. All of them just play the s**t out of it.
“It’s great to see a virtuoso guitar player. They’re the real deal.”
Frontman Tom Meighan also shared the same views as the guitarist and said the two are “f**king amazing”.
He told NME: “They’re both f**king amazing. They’re giants. Muse are a f**king amazing live band and just really nice guys, I’ve got a lot of time for them.
“Eminem is just a f**king genius. He’s probably the best rapper on the planet. He’s so clever. I think Eminem would dig us. I dig Marshall. He’s the Elvis of rap music.”
On August Bank Holiday Weekend, the band will perform at the festival for the second time and said they don’t bother with extravagant gigs because the crowd “make it”.
Serge said: “It’s always a temptation – but our show is ‘the moment’. It’s the crowd that make it and what the music does.
“We don’t need bells and whistles – we could do it with one light.”
Reading and Leeds Festival will also see Bastille, Major Lazer, Liam Gallagher, Two Door Cinema Club, You Me At Six and many more perform over the weekend.

Flea: Cutting music education is child abuse

OHMYGOSSIP — Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea says cutting music education from schools is like “child abuse”.
The 54-year-old bassist set up Silverlake Conservatory of Music, a non-profit educational organisation, in California in 2001 with the help of bandmate Anthony Kiedis.
The ‘By The Way’ hitmaker says that without music he wouldn’t have been able to survive as he was addicted to drugs and stealing.
Speaking about the potential cuts in funding for music studies in the US, which President Donald Trump is proposing, Flea said: “It’s child abuse, it’s just wrong.
“When I was a kid, I was heading for trouble. I was running around in the street, I was robbing, I was breaking into houses, I was doing drugs.
“I was cutting class and smoking weed, just headed into trouble.
“And the one thing that kept me together, and kept me straight, was music. The only reason I even went to school was because I liked playing in the band.”
Trump is proposing that funds to the National Endowment for the Arts, an agency which funds music studies and anything else art-related in schools, be slashed to a minimum.
The rock star says he’s concerned about what move the president will make next and has called on people to do what they can in their local communities.
He told Rolling Stone magazine: “I worry about a lot of things that guy (Trump) says.
“It’s not just the music, but the arts in general.
“I encourage everyone to reach out into the communities that live in, and do what they can to help.
“Getting to change things on a fundamental, institutional level is awesome, but we can personally reach out in our communities to do stuff that is profoundly helpful.”

Liam Gallagher: I hope I’ll be brothers with Noel again

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher says making up with his brother Noel is more important than an Oasis reunion.
The ‘Wall of Glass’ singer has been in a long-running feud with his 50-year-old former bandmate – who stormed off stage at their show in Paris in 2009 after an on-stage bust-up, ending the group – and is adamant there’s no hope of a reunion until the outspoken pair mend their rift.
Asked if it has always been his plan to get the ‘Some Might Say’ hitmakers back together, he told Metro US: “My plan is to live my life. And one day, with a little hope, my brother and I will be brothers.
“That is all. What is Oasis? What is it?
“Oasis is Noel and me. If we do not understand each other, there is no Oasis.
“If we do understand each other, then possibly Oasis will return. But the important thing is that we will be brothers again.”
The ‘Songbird’ songwriter – who is gearing up to release his debut solo LP ‘As You Were’, due out on October 6 – says “90 per cent” of his time in the Britpop band was “momentous”.
He said: “We had a lot of love, a lot of humour. Yes. Sometimes we had little fights. But I would say that 90 per cent of the time I spent with Oasis was momentous. I lived sublime moments – sacred, magnificent. And the remaining 10 per cent was awful. I have very good memories.”
The 44-year-old rocker says the worst part of Oasis and then his band Beady Eye coming to an end in 2014, was the “boredom” of having no commitments.
He said: “I was really bored. That was the worst part. I had nothing to do. I did not have a band. I did not need to get up in the morning. I had no rehearsals, no tours, no studio. The worst thing in life is boredom. Boredom kills. Now, I have things to do, a new band, concerts to come to. Everything returned to normal.”

Liam Payne arranges Cheryl and Justin Bieber talks

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Payne has arranged for Cheryl Tweedy to meet Justin Bieber to discuss working together.
The One Direction star – who has a four-month-old baby boy Bear with the former Girls Aloud star – has put plans in place for his girlfriend and the ‘Never Say Never’ hitmaker to talk when she heads to Los Angeles to work on her fifth solo album.
An insider told The Sun Online: “Cheryl is set up to meet with Justin Bieber on her LA trip – to discuss finally doing that track together.
“Set-up by Liam – a big favour … Biebs has said, ‘Cool, let’s hang out and talk,’ but he can be notoriously flaky – and ruthless when it comes to his music.”
The 34-year-old singer is said to be planning to head Stateside to work on her new record – a follow up to her 2014 album ‘Only Human’ – which is expected to drop next year.
A source recently said: “Cheryl’s got a longer US visa so she can go back and forth more frequently to the States.
“She hasn’t started working on the new album yet as she is still enjoying her time off with Bear.
“She’s loved their time together as she adjusted to being a mum and is still easing herself back into work.”
Cheryl is said to still be planning to juggle both her solo singing career and her motherly duties in the future.
The source added: “But she is looking forward to getting out there and starting recording. She still has ambitions as a singer and will be a working mum.”
Cheryl released her debut solo album ‘3 Words’ in 2009 and followed the record up in 2010 with ‘Messy Little Raindrops’, and then ‘A Million Lights’ in 2012, with ‘Only Human’ dropping in 2014.

Muse to release singles in place of album for now

OHMYGOSSIP — Muse will be holding off releasing an album for a while.
The British stadium rockers feel with the rise of streaming many music fans prefer listening to singles and creating their own playlists, and so they’ve decided to stick to releasing the odd song here and there for now.
Speaking about the ‘Plug in Baby’ hitmakers adapting to the changes, bassist Chris Wolstenholme said: “I think the industry has changed too much since we started, certainly since we put our first record out. But even in the last five or six years, streaming has become the way that most people seem to listen to music this days and I think that’s affected the way people listen to music. People tend not to consume themselves in entire albums like they did when I was younger. It seems to be that the whole industry and the platforms for listening to music are catered around people listening to individual songs and creating their own playlists and things like that.”
Chris – who is joined by lead singer Matt Bellamy and drummer Dominic Howard in the rock trio – says it’s less pressurised just dropping singles and means they don’t have to worry about the relentless album promo cycle.
He told Music Feeds: “So I think it was something that was worth a try, just putting out the odd single here or there. “There’s less pressure as well. We decided after ‘Drones’ we were going to take a little bit of time off, and that we wouldn’t tour heavily this year but we didn’t want to disappear completely.
“Sometimes as a band — even in times when you’re off — you don’t necessarily feel like you want to make an entire album, but sometimes it’s quite nice to get together as a band for a bit of fun and if anything comes of it you think well, ‘Well why not release it as a standalone single?’
“I think for years things have been tapered around an album campaign, promoting an album and having singles to promote the album.
“I guess we all felt that with the way that streaming works these days and that there’s so much emphasis on individual songs, that there was no reason why we couldn’t do that.”
On when fans can expect a follow-up to 2015’s ‘Drones’, Chris said: “I know at some point we will do another album but I think it’s a nice thing to do in the meantime so the fans feel like they’re still getting something; we haven’t completely disappeared off the face of the planet.”

Selena Gomez is desperate to collaborate with Eminem

OHMYGOSSIP — Selena Gomez is desperate to collaborate with Eminem.

When asked who she would most like to work with on a single in a 30 minute Q&A session on Twitter, which was titled #StreamWithSelena, the brunette beauty simply said: “Eminem (sic).”
And the ‘Kill Em With Kindness’ hitmaker has hinted she would also like to partner with DJ Kygo again after they released ‘It Ain’t Me’ earlier this year, because she feels like she creates a “whole new sound” when she works with the musician.
When asked if the duo will work together again, she replied: “I like feeling like i’m creating a whole new sound each time I collaborate. @KygoMusic’s sound is so unique, I loved being a part of it. (sic).”
Selena has recently released the single ‘Fetish’ and the ‘Spring Breakers’ actress has admitted she had “so much fun” working on the music video to accompany the track because she was surrounded by a “room full of boys”.
Speaking about the project, the Texas-born star – who is currently dating The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye – said: “It was so much fun. I was in a room full of boys. They were all on their phones. (sic).”
Although Selena loved working on the music video, she has revealed the song is not her favourite track, but ‘Me and the Rhythm’ from her 2015 album ‘Revival’ is her preferred single, although ‘Sober’ on the same LP is a “close second”.
She said: “My favorite song from Revival, Me & The Rhythm (Sober was a close second.) #StreamWithSelena (sic).”
Meanwhile, Selena has admitted “most of the time” she is overwhelmed with nerves before her performances, but she believes her audience are not aware of how she is feeling because she thinks she is “really good” at concealing her emotions.
When asked about her coping mechanism, she said: “Most of the time I am. I’m just really good at covering it up (sic).”

30 Seconds To Mars announce new single

OHMYGOSSIP — 30 Seconds To Mars will release their new single on August 22.
The rock trio – comprised of brothers Jared Leto and Shannon Leto, alongside Tomo Milicevic – have announced they will be dropping their brand new single ‘Walk on Water’ later this month, in what will be their first piece of new music in four years.
The band announced the news on Twitter on Monday (14.08.17) when they shared a funny sketch video of the band sat in an Interscope label meeting, where they were berated for promising music “soon” and not delivering.
In the video, their label manager said: “Four years since you put out an album, two years since we signed you. Are we really having this conversation? Soon? People are sick and tired of soon. Soon doesn’t mean s**t. F**k soon. We need to go now. Now!”
The text on the video after the sketch ends reads: “The new single. Walk on Water. #Soon (sic)”
And the rockers captioned the video: “THE NEW SINGLE / WALK ON WATER / AUGUST 22. #SOON (sic)”
Meanwhile, frontman Jared, 45, has been dropping hints toward a new LP for the ‘Kings and Queens’ hitmakers on his own social media accounts.
Back in March, the ‘Suicide Squad’ actor shared a teaser clip in which he can be seen with long hair performing the band’s 2013 hit ‘Do or Die’.
And in the same month, the group’s Twitter page shared a video of the band in Tokyo along with the caption, “MARS IS COMING. (sic)”
Jared previously admitted he never expected the group – who released their self-titled debut LP 14 years ago – to still be going strong, but that he is very excited about their upcoming fifth record.
He said: “We are working on our fifth album now, which is incredible. We never thought we would get this far.
“We’re almost done with it and it looks like it will be out in 2017.”
‘Walk on Water’ will be the first piece of new music the band has released since 2013’s album ‘Love, Lust, Faith, and Dreams’, and is available from August 22.

Stormzy stops Boardmasters Festival performance for safety of crowd

OHMYGOSSIP — Stormzy was forced to stop his Boardmasters Festival performance due to the crowd’s “dangerous” behaviour.
The 24-year-old grime artist was in the middle of entertaining his audience, who flocked to the music extravaganza in Cornwall over the weekend, when he had to suddenly halt his gig because his fans were being crushed and cried out in pain after being trampled on by the hordes of people.
A video of the chaotic event has been shared on Facebook, which captures the festival-goers being urged to stand up to avoid being bombarded by the vast amount of people who swarmed to see the ‘Big For Your Boots’ hitmaker perform.
And the artist – whose full name is Michael Ebenazer Kwadjo Omari Owuo, Jr – felt it was best to pause his show to encourage the audience to calm down.
The Boardmasters Festival explained the situation on their social media platform, they wrote: “Due to massive excitement at the start of Stormzy’s set tonight, there was a brief surge at the front of the audience. (sic).”
It has since been reported during Stormzy’s act some members in the crowd passed out, whilst others are believed to have suffered broken bones because the crowd control was not handled appropriately.
In a bid to prevent any further issues some Stormzy fans were “lifted” above the crowd and over the barrier to escape any potential harm.
One festival-goer, named Ellie Wookey, said: “I was there at the front with my friends, we had waited for four hours to see Stormzy and we all had to be lifted over the barrier.”
Whilst the annual festival is meant to be an exciting occasion, the female has admitted it was in fact the “scariest moment” of her entire life.
She continued: “It was one of the scariest moments of my life, people were pulled out having passed out and I saw people with broken bones, it’s really not okay.
“I understand it is difficult to stop those people causing all the problems but that was very very dangerous and I’m very lucky I wasn’t hurt.”

Speaking previously about Justin’s well-being, a source said: “He started out in the business as a kid, but he is older now. He wants to have control over his life and health. He hasn’t been feeling well mentally for a while. Cancelling the tour was the right thing for him.
“He needed to take a break and just focus on himself. He is doing better already. He is focused on his spiritual journey. He wants to be stronger mentally.”

Nile Rodgers misses gig due to hospitalisation

OHMYGOSSIP — Nile Rodgers had to miss a concert over the weekend when he was hospitalised with a mystery illness.
The 64-year-old producer and his band Chic are currently on the road with Earth, Wind & Fire for ‘2054: The Tour’ but he had to miss Sunday’s (13.08.17) gig in Toronto when he was taken to hospital.
Nile wrote on Twitter: “Thank you all so much. I love @EarthWindFire @CHICorg all the #fans and my doctors who are taking great care of me. See you all very soon.
“I’ve never missed one gig in my life… well, it’s been that way till now. The Dr. caught me trying to sneak out. #LOVE (sic).”
Nile was diagnosed with prostate cancer six years ago but was given the all-clear in 2014 and he spoke about his ordeal at Glastonbury earlier this year.
He said: “The last time we played here was about four years ago, and at that time, I didn’t share this with you, but a couple of years before that my doctors had told me that I was suffering from an extremely aggressive cancer, and that I needed to go home and get my affairs in order.
“I went home and I did a little thinking, and I thought to myself: well, I’m a musician – if I’m going to get my affairs in order, what exactly would that mean to me?
“I happened to get a phone call from two French guys called Daft Punk and a gentleman named Pharrell Williams. And we got together and we wrote this song called ‘Get Lucky’.
“And I feel like the luckiest man in the world tonight, because six years after that doctor told me to get my affairs in order, today, six years later, I am cancer-free!”
