Charli XCX hates assumptions she doesn’t write her songs

OHMYGOSSIP — Charli XCX is fed up of the “assumptions” that she doesn’t write her own songs.
The ‘Boys’ hitmaker has called out the music industry for their treatment of female songwriters such as herself, Katy Perry or Taylor Swift.
She said: “There’s an assumption that girls don’t write their songs, especially in the pop world. People don’t believe that Katy Perry writes, or Taylor [Swift] – or, like, me.”
And the 25-year-old singer admits her songwriting is “very unstructured” as it reflects her “messy and spontaneous” life.
She added: “My songwriting is very unstructured. It reflects my life and lifestyle, which is messy and spontaneous. I see the sound in waves of colour and it helps me with my lyric ideas.”
Charli has also opened up about suffering from panic attacks and admits they are “amplified” because of her status as a musician.
She shared to The Sunday Times’ Style magazine: “I still get them [panic attacks] every now and again. I don’t know, definitely if I’ve been partying a lot, that will trigger anxiety, but sometimes it’s to do with relationships with people, like if there’s some kind of weird energy and I have to confront it, that will take me a second. Normal s**t that people just have. Humans are weird, you know.
“The thing about being a musician is that it amplifies things. So sometimes, if I have to go to an event or a party, I get nervous energy. I’m not good at putting that away. I’m not good at being ‘on’ if I don’t want to be .. I’d be a terrible sports player. You know when you watch tennis and everyone is really composed. I would not be there, I’d be freaking out the whole time.”

Foo Fighters want Tears For Fears collaboration

OHMYGOSSIP — Foo Fighters want to collaborate with Tears for Fears.
The ‘Monkey Wrench’ rockers reached out to the 80s band’s singer, Roland Orzabal, to ask him to appear on a track on their new record, ‘Concrete and Gold’ and though he never got back to them, frontman Dave Grohl isn’t ruling out hope it could happen in the future.
He said: “There was a song on the new record that I thought would be amazing if Roland Orzabel sang on or helped produce.
“I emailed him – and never heard back. It would have been a dream come true, to get together with the singer from Tears for Fears.”
Tears for Fears hold a special place in Dave’s heart because their music struck a chord with him when he was a young teenager.
He told MOJO magazine: “My sister had ‘The Hurting’ and ‘Songs From the Big Chair’ and I secretly fell in love with Tears for Fears.
“That melancholic sense of melody really encapsulated that specific place and time in my life – when you’re 13 years old, your nuts are dropping, your voice is changing, you’re breaking through puberty, so listening to Tears For Fears somehow soothes the burn.
“When ‘Songs From the Big Chair’ came out and they broke into the mainstream, they were inescapable in America.
I still listen to those records often.”
While the band didn’t secure Roland for their new LP, Boys II Men singer Shawn Stockman did lend his vocals to a track.
Dave previously said: “The guy from Boyz II Men walking through the parking lot and me saying ‘would you sing on our record?’ And he does – on the heaviest song on the entire record.
“It sounds like Sabbath and Pink Floyd. It’s heavy. It’s the last song on the record. He built a choir – it’s like 40 vocals stacked. It’s insane.”

Van Morrison finds making album’s ‘boring’

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Van Morrison doesn’t enjoy making albums anymore.
The 71-year-old folk singer is gearing up to release his 37th studio album, a blues record called ‘Roll Back The Punches’ – which features the likes of Jeff Beck, ‘Out of Time’ hitmaker Chris Farlowe and regular collaborator Georgie Fame – on September 22.
Despite having amassed a vast back catalogue over the past five decades, Van says he now finds the recording process “boring”.
Asked if he still believes in releasing records, he told Uncut magazine: “No, it’s just the way it happens. It’s not an album a year, because ‘Keep Me Singing’ was finished quite a while before it came out.
“I took probably a year to get that one out.
“This one hasn’t taken a year. What was the reason for doing it? I just wanted to record some blues and have – allegedly – some fun. But then it turns into hard work, as it always does.
“I don’t enjoy recording the tracks, but then the mixing and all the rest of it, it’s so boring.
“People would not believe how boring it is. I used to enjoy making albums, but the whole process of doing it now, I don’t enjoy it at all.”
It was not a desire to release another LP, but simply the ‘Brown Eyed Girl’ hitmaker’s aficionado for blues music that led him to make this record.
He explained: “From a very early age, I connected with the blues. The thing about the blues is you don’t dissect it – you just do it. I’ve never over-analysed what I do; I just do it. Music has to be about just doing it and that’s the way the blues works – it’s an attitude. I was lucky to have met people who were the real thing – people like John Lee Hooker, Jimmy Witherspoon, Bo Diddley, Little Walter & Mose Allison. I got to hang out with them and absorb what they did. They were people with no ego whatsoever and they helped me learn a lot.”

Fifth Harmony: ‘Down sets the tone for new album’

OHMYGOSSIP — Fifth Harmony say ‘Down’ featuring Gucci Mane sets the tone for their new album.
The girl group’s self-titled third album – their first since Camila Cabello quit last year – opens with their latest single and they revealed it was a deliberate choice to let people know what their new sound is.
Ally Brooke Hernandez told Billboard: “We definitely wanted to start off the tone with ‘Down.’ It’s very rhythmic, but it has the fun pop elements to the song, plus that urban vibe and feel, especially with Gucci on the track. He was so amazing. We love his verse. We think it’s such a sweet song, and he really made the verse so personal to him and his life and his situation. We wanted to set the tone with what’s to come for the album, and we thought ‘Down’ was perfect because it has a mixture of everything in one.”
They also called the album track ‘Angel’ with Poo Bear and Skrillex a “game changer”.
Dinah Jane explained: “We were in the studio with Poo Bear and Skrillex, and Poo Bear was just like, “Just so you know, this song is a little hard.” He played the record and at first I thought it was a ballad, and I was like, ‘Oh, he’s joking around,’ and I come to find out when that drop came in, I was like, ‘Yo, this is a game-changer right here.’
“This is honestly the direction of where we wanted to go, because it kind of reflects on who we are and what our style is. Fifth Harmony is known for their edgy, poppy tones, but this is the type of edge we’ve been looking for, and have been wanting for a while now, and so the fact that he wrote this song specifically for us, it was perfect. Conceptually, I just love the way he wrote this: ‘Who said I was an angel?’ Sometimes I also feel the same way, where I feel like my kindness is taken for granted or taken advantage of. Sometimes you just become ‘no angel no more, and you just break through and you just become this badass girl and you’re just standing up for yourself, singing your heart out and not giving an F about anything.”

Taylor Swift’s video to feature ‘subtle hints’ about Kimye feud

OHMYGOSSIP — Taylor Swift’s new music video will feature “not-so-subtle hints” about Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West.
The 27-year-old singer’s latest single ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ is believed to be aimed at the rapper and his wife and Taylor will reportedly give fans some clues in the footage, which will premiere at the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday (27.08.17).
A source told TMZ: “Taylor feels she was backstabbed by the couple and there will be more not-so-subtle hints in the official music video, which will debut Sunday during the VMAs.”
And Taylor also appeared to take aim at Kanye in the track, as she slammed someone for their “titled stage”, which Kanye had during his ‘Saint Pablo’ tour in 2016.
Declaring her hate towards the person, the ‘Shake It Off’ hitmaker sings the line: “I don’t like your little games/ Don’t like your titled stage/ The role you made me play/ Of the fool/ No, I don’t like you.”
She also vows revenge against her enemies, singing: “Honey, I rose up from the dead, I do it all the time/I’ve got a list of names and yours is in red underlined/I check it once, then I check it twice.”
Taylor and Kanye have been feuding ever since the 40-year-old rapper stormed the stage at the MTV VMAs in 2009 because he thought Beyonce deserved the Best Female Video prize over her.
Although they enjoyed a brief truce, Kanye also took aim at Taylor on his track ‘Famous’ last year, in which he referred to the singer as a “bitch*” and joked about sleeping with her.
While Taylor lashed out at the song, Kim shared videos on Snapchat revealing that Kanye had discussed it with the star before release, although Taylor insisted she was not aware of the full content.

Taylor Swift’s inventive interpolation

OHMYGOSSIP — Taylor Swift’s new single ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ interpolates Right Said Fred’s ‘I’m Too Sexy’.
The 27-year-old singer made a stunning comeback to the music industry on Thursday (24.08.17) night when she dropped her brand new single which features an interpolation of the British band’s 1991 hit single ‘I’m Too Sexy’.
And Right Said Fred couldn’t be more thrilled with her inventive interpolation, as they said they are “honoured” to be a part of the track and took the time to thank the blonde beauty and her team for “being absolutely wonderful.”
In a statement posted to their website, the band said: “We’re very pleased to hear Taylor Swift’s interpolation of our 1991 hit ‘I’m Too Sexy’.
“Taylor and her team reached out to us about the track, we like what she does and we were very honoured to have her interpolation feature on her new single ‘Look What You Made Me Do.’
“Thanks to Taylor and her team for being absolutely wonderful. We’re very happy that our debut single will potentially be reaching new fans 26 years after its release.”
Right Said Fred also thanked Taylor for the interpolation of their song on Twitter, where they declared the track as a “marvellous reinvention”.
They wrote: “Thank you @taylorswift13, what a marvellous reinvention! #imtoosexy #lookwhatyoumademedo (sic).”
Taylor and Jack Antonoff – who co-wrote the track – also showed their thanks to Right Said Fred when they sent flowers to the band alongside a handwritten card, which the group posted to their Twitter.
The card read: “Look what you made us do … we love you and can’t wait for a chance to celebrate with you! Love, your co-writters, Taylor and Jack.”
Right Said Fred captioned the image: “Thank you so much to @taylorswift13 & @jackantonoff – very kind! (sic)”
‘Look What You Made Me Do’ is the first piece of new music from Taylor since she collaborated with Zayn Malik for the track ‘I Don’t Wanna Live Forever’, which was featured in the 2016 movie ‘Fifty Shades Darker’.
The single also marks the first song to be heard from her upcoming sixth studio album ‘Reputation’, which she announced earlier this week would be released on November 10.
‘Reputation’ is the first album to be released by the ‘Blank Space’ hitmaker since 2014’s phenomenally successful hit ‘1989’.

Taylor Swift takes aim at Kanye’s ’tilted stage’ on new song?

OHMYGOSSIP — Taylor Swift has thrown shade at Kanye West on her new song ‘Look What You Made Me Do’.
The 27-year-old pop beauty unleashed the track on Thursday (24.08.17) and fans have since speculated that she is taking aim at her sworn enemy and his wife Kim Kardashian West.
First off, Taylor slams someone for their “titled stage” and the ‘All Day’ hitmaker had one during his ‘Saint Pablo’ tour in 2016.
Declaring her hate towards the said person, the ‘Shake It Off’ hitmaker sings the line: “I don’t like your little games/ Don’t like your titled stage/ The role you made me play/ Of the fool/ No, I don’t like you.”
Taylor and Kanye have been feuding ever since the 40-year-old rapper stormed the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009 because he thought Beyonce deserved the Best Female Video prize over her.
Kanye also took aim at Taylor on his track ‘Famous’ last year, in which he referred to the singer as a “b***h*” and joked about sleeping with her.
Meanwhile, though there is nothing to pinpoint about her other enemy Katy Perry, the trio are all speculated to be in the firing line.
Another line she blurts out is: “Honey, I rose up from the dead I do it all the time/I got a list of names and yours is in red, underlined I check it once/Then I check it twice” and “The world moves on another day, another drama-drama, but not for me, not for me, all I think about is karma. Maybe I got mine but you’ll all get yours.”
The ‘Swish Swish’ singer and Taylor have been at loggerheads ever since the latter accused Katy of sabotaging her ‘Red Tour’ in 2014 by stealing three of her backing dancers, but in recent months Katy has said she is keen to see their “beef” end.
‘Look What You Made Me Do’ is the first single from Taylor’s sixth album, ‘Reputation’, which will be released on 10 November.

The song with superstar rapper Nicki was produced by Fergie’s Black Eyed Peas bandmate will.i.am.

The blonde beauty has also announced her first visual record to come out alongside her studio album, called ‘Double Dutchess: Seeing Double’.
The ‘London Bridge’ hitmaker says it was important for her to make a visual experience for her fans to tell the story behind the record, which is very special to her.
She said: “It’s finally here! I’ve spent a long time — many late, late nights — writing and working to make ‘Double Dutchess’ perfect.
“I wanted to make a visual experience too, because there’s a special story here that’s really close to my heart.
“This is my vision. I feel like it truly represents who I am on every level, and I hope you love it as much as I do. I’ll see everyone on the road soon!”
Fergie left Interscope Records and inked a deal with BMG Publishing for her second solo album.

She previously said: “This new era, which includes starting my own label and creating a global partnership with BMG, is a dream come true.
“It’s an opportunity to release my solo music as well as develop and nurture new artists. This next chapter in my career will allow me the independence to evolve both as an artist and as a businesswoman.

Steve Wilson’s chart battle with Ed Sheeran

OHMYGOSSIP — Steve Wilson has urged people to “go easy” downloading Ed Sheeran’s album so his record will be number one.
The 49-year-old rocker’s latest album ‘To The Bone’ has been doing well in the midweeks, but he fears that the ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker’s LP ‘Divide’ will reign the top of the official UK album chart for the 17th consecutive week later today (25.08.17).
He said: “There’s still 2,000 people buying Ed’s album every day. I can’t believe there’s anyone who hasn’t already got it.”
Progressive rock acts haven’t dominated the charts for more than 40 decades when the likes of Genesis and Yes were popular, so it would mean the world to the ‘Perfect Life’ singer to change that.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Having a prog rock number one would mean so much to Steven.
“He just wants people to go easy listening to or buying Ed this week.”
The former Porcupine Tree frontman’s last record, 2015’s ‘Hand Cannot Erase’, made it to number 13.
And it’s not just the flame-haired singer/songwriter Steve is tracking, as he recently admitted he has been keeping an eye on record label’s updates on their client’s chart progress.
The Cult star says he’d happily settle for a top three album.
He said: “I’m following every record company update.
“I’ve been doing this for 25 years so even getting into the top three would be more than I ever dreamed of.”
Despite Ed’s strong chances of claiming the top spot, Steve thinks he is in with a chance.
He said: “People don’t have a problem watching a feature film or reading a novel so why can’t a song take them on a journey.
“I think the pendulum is coming back in my direction.”
Meanwhile, Steve said that acts like Radiohead technically have progressive elements and are able to be mainstream because they don’t brag about it.
He said: “I’ve got used to being ignored. ‘Progressive’ means you get brushed under the carpet. Prog is in Radiohead’s DNA but for pragmatic reasons they deny it.”

Tom Morello won’t recover Chris Cornell’s death

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Morello doesn’t think he will ever “recover” from Chris Cornell’s death.
The Rage Against the Machine star – who also performed alongside Chris in Audioslave – has “so many great memories” with Chris.
He said: “I don’t think I’ll ever recover from his passing, but we have so many great memories. We played an Audioslave show – the first one in 12 years – in January, so to be able to reconnect with him, both as friends and as musical collaborators, that’s something I’m so glad we were able to do.”
And the 53-year-old musician was devastated to hear about the death of Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington too.
He added: “It’s insane. It’s a horrible loss for the world of music, but also a horrible loss cos they were two … I didn’t know Chester as well, but [they were] two really good people. And both seemed very inexplicable, their passing.”
And Tom also called for more understanding of depression and how it affects people.
Speaking about depression, he told Detroit radio station WRIF: “That’s a real thing and [you should] make sure that they know you’re there for them. We’ve got to look after each other.”
Meanwhile, Sir Elton John previously lamented about the “destructive” nature of artists following the death of Chester Bennington and Chris Cornell.
He said: “It has been a sad few weeks. We lost Chris [Cornell] and then we lost Chester. They were two lovely guys. You know artists are prone to being a little destructive, whether you are an actor or singer or visual artist.
“Sometimes, as Jim Carrey said when Philip Seymour Hoffman committed suicide, ‘the noise just gets too much’. It is so awful for someone to be so depressed that they commit suicide, especially when they have families. I just wanted to pay tribute to them, as there by the grace of God go all of us. Just remember them fondly and the music they left. It is totally different music to the one I create but still wonderful music that has entertained millions, including me.”

Prince engineer lands rights to release vault?

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince’s sound engineer has reportedly landed the rights to release his vault of unreleased music.
George Boxill is said to have outbid Jay-Z’s $40 million offer and Universal’s $31 million with an eight-figure sum.
The ‘Purple Rain’ hitmaker’s estate has been embroiled in a legal battle with Boxill after he attempted to release an EP of unheard songs on streaming services, including the track ‘Deliverance’, in April, to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the music legend’s death.
According to TMZ, Boxill has claimed the estate admitted in court that he had the right to release the songs, some of which he says he co-wrote with the ‘Little Red Corvette’ singer, and that he could make money from them.
Boxill is also believed to be hoping to get an injunction filed against him by the estate to block the release of the EP overturned.
In April, a federal judge ruled that Boxill had allegedly been told to give the recordings back to them.
The lawsuit stated that the producer had signed a confidentiality agreement when he recorded the tracks between 2006 and 2008 and agreed all recordings would “remain Prince’s sole and exclusive property.”
According to the estate, the producer refused a demand to return the recordings in March, and they believe the release of the music would harm their business interests.
The lawsuit argued the release of the recordings would “deprive Prince (and now the estate) from choosing what is released to the public and when”.
Boxill previously said he felt the release of the EP would “bring comfort” to the music legend’s fans.
He said: “I believe ‘Deliverance’ is a timely release with everything going on in the world today, and in light of the one-year anniversary of his passing. I hope when people hear Prince singing these songs it will bring comfort to many.”

Dua Lipa and Charli XCX want Macarena revival

OHMYGOSSIP — Dua Lipa and Charli XCX want ‘Macarena’ back in the charts.
The pop beauties have revealed that whenever they are partying together they always smash out the moves to the hit 90s Spanish dance song by Los Del Río, but to different songs each time, and they are hoping to go viral with it.
‘Boys’ hitmaker Charli, 25, told the Daily Star newspaper: “I love Dua. We have this new thing – we do the ‘Macarena’ to any song.
“It’s our new hobby and we are hoping it goes viral.
“It’s our goal to bring the ‘Macarena’ back in the charts.”
In June, Dua shared a video of the pair dancing to the song on Twitter and encourage her followers to get involved and send in their own clips with the hashtag “DoitlikeCharliandDua”.
At the time, she wrote: “Holy Macarena. @charli_xcx and I wanna see you doing the Macarena to your fave tunes use this hashtag so we can see!! #DoitlikeCharliandDua (sic)”
Meanwhile, the 22-year-old singer – who celebrated her latest single ‘New Rules’ by doing the ‘Macarena’ – says she is devoted to her fans and will do all she can to help them out using social media.
She said: “The most important thing to me is the fans.
“We’ve become really close and I try to reach out to them as often as I can.”
