Queens of the Stone Age urge fans to live on the edge

OHMYGOSSIP — Queens of the Stone Age have urged their fans to live life on the edge.
The ‘No One Knows’ rockers want their audiences to bring “chaos” to their shows because every night they go on stage they put all they have into the performance no matter what.
Guitarist Troy De Van Leeuwen said: “We embrace chaos and danger, so should the fans.
“Every night we get on stage we give everything and things could break, the wheels could fall off.
“That’s the way life is, we are always looking to f*** things up.”
Frontman Josh Homme added to the Daily Star newspaper: “At our concerts there are no rules, all you have to do is be yourself.”
The band have just released their seventh studio album ‘Villains’, and the artwork is an illustration of Josh being captured by the devil.
Explaining why they chose the powerful image, Troy said: “People want someone to blame their terrible decisions on, and that’s usually the devil.”
Josh laughed: “I prefer to take responsibility for my nonsense.”
Despite wanting their fans to be wild at their shows, Josh says he feels he has a responsibility to ensure there is no foul play.
The record is produced by ‘Uptown Funk’ hitmaker Mark Ronson, and Josh says he thinks working with the DJ helps deter nasty people.
He told NME magazine: “I think I’ve always been trying to prune our audience [of] racist, homophobic, misogynistic a*sholes.
“The idea is to have our audience be an open-minded group of individuals. I think that’s why even picking Ronson initially [was] to chase people away.”
As the only person with the microphone, the 44-year-old rocker says it is his job to protect his crowd.
Recalling calling out a guy who hit a girl at their performance at Lowlands Festival in Holland, he said: “I saw a guy punching a girl in the face, right by the front row,” he says. “My whole life, I hate watching people get bullied and so, in a manner of speaking, you turn and you try to bully the bully. I have done that many times. I’m the only one with a mic so I think sometimes it perhaps looks like I’m bullying somebody – and I actually am.”

Jake Bugg’s cool collaboration

OHMYGOSSIP — Jake Bugg thought it was “really cool” working with Dan Auerbach on his new album.
The 23-year-old singer has co-written three songs with the Black Keys musician for his upcoming LP, ‘Hearts That Strain’, and the pair had a great time in the studio together.
He said: “It was really cool working with Dan. I supported The Black Keys on an arena tour of America a few years ago.
“We met once or twice during the tour so it was great to go into the studio and write some tunes and have a laugh as well.
“It was really enjoyable and that’s how it should be.”
The album also features Noah Cyrus on track ‘Waiting’, and though Jake didn’t get to meet the 17-year-old singer, he is “very happy” with how the track turned out.
He told The Sun newspaper: “My producer David Ferguson played the track to her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, who was in the studio and he got Noah to sing on it.
“She sang her part in LA while I was in Nashville. Her voice sounded great and it was really nice to have somebody from more of a pop background to be singing on a track I’d written. I’m very happy with the track.”
The ‘How Soon The Dawn’ hitmaker admits making a success of a music career requires a lot of “compromises” because of complex business dealings, but he is willing to make sacrifices to keep doing what he loves.
He said: “I have to make a lot of compromises to do the things I want to do.
“There’s a game to be played and a lot of politics but if it means I can carry on playing music, I’m willing to do whatever’s necessary.”
After six years in the spotlight, Jake thinks he has changed for the better.
He said: “Maybe I’m more open-minded and more confident and maybe not as ignorant to some things.
“I’m always one for hiding my emotions but I’m just better at doing it now.
“As I was growing up, I got to travel and see different cultures and meet new people. You learn.”

Avril Lavigne promises new music out soon

OHMYGOSSIP — Avril Lavigne has promised fans her new album will arrive “before you know it”.
The ‘Complicated’ hitmaker has thanked supporters for their “patience” during her two-year battle with Lyme disease, and insisted she is working on making her sixth studio album “perfect” because fans have waited so long for the music.
She wrote on Twitter: “To my fans. I just want to thank everyone for their patience as I work on putting together this new album. It’s been a long recovery and I want to make sure that this is perfect for you guys!!
“You only deserve my best effort and that’s what I’m going to deliver! I can’t wait to share the new music I’m working on, I promise it’ll be here before you know it!! Love you, Avril. (sic)”
Avril hasn’t released a new record since her 2013 self-titled fifth studio album, and in December the star revealed plans to drop music this year and admitted her fight against the disease will be reflected in the lyrics.
She wrote: “It hasn’t just been a hard battle but it’s also been enlightening and will reflect in my new music, artistry, life, and personally.
“I will always continue to make it a priority to fight and raise awareness about Lyme Disease with the Avril Lavigne foundation. I’m really happy to announce that I am now working on new music and I will be releasing a new album in 2017. I can’t wait to open up and share my heart with you! I’m excited for you guys to hear the new songs. It’s going to be an amazing 2017! (sic)”
Avril’s first album ‘Let Go’ dropped in 2002 and she followed the record up with 2004’s ‘Under My Skin’, ‘The Best Damn Thing’ in 2007 and ‘Goodbye Lullaby’ in 2011.

Sam Smith promises new music ‘very very soon’

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Smith will be releasing new music “very, very soon”.
The ‘Writing’s On The Wall’ hitmaker has thrilled fans by confirming the “wait is nearly over” for new tracks but admits he is both “scared and excited” about the new record.
In a note to his fans, he wrote: “First of all I want to say thank you. Thank you for being so patient and for letting me have the past year to really escape into my mind & write music so freely. I feel so rejuvenated and have so many stories I can’t wait to tell you.
“The wait is so nearly over. Something is coming very very very very soon. I am scared & excited at the same time. I’ve poured my soul & heart into this record.”
It comes after a source claimed Sam has named his comeback record after his family home, The Pink House, 50 Heydon Road.
The insider shared at the time: “Sam has chosen the title as the ultimate tribute to his parents Fred and Kate and sisters who have always supported his dream. They never once tried to dissuade him following his dreams, so it’s a very personal record.”
And Sam recently admitted he can’t stand his single, ‘Money On My Mind’, though he believes most of the tracks from his first LP are “classics”.
He said: “There’s a few songs I really hate, but then the core of the album, songs like ‘Stay With Me’, ‘I’m Not The Only One’ – actually all the songs except ‘Money On My Mind’ – I really love and I’m really proud of the classic-ness of the way they sound, because I still listen to them now and I still love them. There are a few moments [on the album] where I think to myself, ‘I would have changed that. I would have done that differently.'”

The 1975’s Matt Healy confirms new song title

OHMYGOSSIP — The 1975’s third album features a song called ‘Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America’.
Frontman Matt Healy took to Instagram on Wednesday (30.08.17) to share the start of a playlist on iTunes titled ‘Muse For Cars’, which the 28-year-old rocker previously announced is the title of the record.
He captioned the post: “The need to start editing.”
The picture clearly shows the song name and the ‘Chocolate’ hitmaker responded to a fan who asked if it was indeed a title, to which he replied: “it is the actual track name yes (sic)”
Matt previously said the new album, which is the follow-up to 2016’s ‘I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It’, is “the end of an era”.
The dark-haired hunk says it will mark the end of the first phase of the band, as he says the rockers “always” planned on creating a “trilogy of records”.
The ‘Love Me’ singer said previously: “The next record’s called ‘Music For Cars’. That’s the title and it references our second EP or our third EP.
“It’s always been called that and we were always going to do a trilogy of records. I’m not saying that after this record it’s the end of The 1975 but it’s definitely the end of an era.”
Confirming the band were back in the studio earlier this year, Matt wrote on Instagram: “I like it when you sleep is coming to an end
“Music For Cars
“NOW I will retreat from the world to make Music For Cars. Please keep informing me. I learn so much from our fans and I value you so much x
“Just music from now on. Informed by you. The young. (sic)”
Despite claiming a new record is due “this year”, ‘Music For Cars’ is expected to be released in 2018.

Jake Bugg didn’t meet Noah Cyrus for their duet

OHMYGOSSIP — Jake Bugg hasn’t met Noah Cyrus despite the pop star featuring on his song.
The 23-year-old singer/songwriter recruited pop megastar Miley Cyrus’ younger sister for the track ‘Waiting’, which features on his forthcoming third studio album ‘Hearts That Strain’.
Speaking about how Noah’s father, country music legend Billy Ray Cyrus, heard the track and asked if his daughter could record her vocals on it, Jake said:
“When I was back in London, Billy dropped into the studio I had been working in in Nashville and heard the song [Waiting] and really liked it.
“He thought Noah would be perfect for it, and she recorded her parts while she was in LA. I’ve never met her, which is a bit weird but that’s the way it goes nowadays.”
The ‘Lightning Bolt’ hitmaker is thrilled with how it turned out and actually prefers Noah’s part to his own.
He told the London Evening Standard newspaper: “She made it sound much better. When my voice comes in it sounds terrible, but when she’s singing it sounds all right.”
Jake also teamed up with Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys for a number of tracks on his follow-up to 2016’s ‘On My One’ and spent some time in Nashville, Tennessee recording with American Sound Studio’s house band – famed for working with Elvis Presley on ‘Suspicious Minds’ and much more.
On the experience, he said recently: “They’re old guys but they’re amazing.
“It was ten to five and then that’s it. They’d pack up and we’d done two or three tunes. It was a mad vibe being from England and meeting these absolute legends and then cutting some tracks with them.”
The first track with Auerbach, ‘How Soon The Dawn’, is out now and he also features on ‘I Can Burn Alone’ and In ‘The Event Of My Demise’.
In support of the record, Jake is to embark on an intimate acoustic tour kicking off in Bath, South West England on November 4, and wrapping up in Liverpool, North West England, on November 25.
‘Hearts That Strain’ is released on September 1.

U2 unveil two songs from Songs of Experience

OHMYGOSSIP — U2 unveiled their first new music in three years on Wednesday night (30.08.17).
The Irish rockers unveiled a video of them performing new track ‘The Blackout’ in Amsterdam and revealed it would be the second single from their eagerly-anticipated album ‘Songs of Experience’.
However, they also revealed that the first single ‘You’re The Best Thing About Me’, will arrive next Wednesday (06.09.17).
They wrote on Facebook alongside the black and white clip: “‘The Blackout’, just for you. From upcoming album Songs of Experience’.
Tune in now.
First single, ‘You’re The Best Thing About Me’ coming Sept. 6th
#U2TheBlackout #U2SongsofExperience “in the darkness where we learn to see” (sic)”
The two tracks will be the first new music from the ‘With or Without You’ hitmakers since their 2014 album ‘Songs of Innocence’.
Last week, the band sent out pieces of paper to fans featuring the words “Blackout … It’s clear who you are will appear … U2.com” and a line, which read: “U2 will announce [blank] on [blank].”
Over the text, an abstract from William Blake’s collection of poems ‘Songs of Innocence and Experience’, the inspiration for their record, was a silhouette of a boy and girl holding hands.
Several fans took to social media to share the mail and speculate that new music was on the way.
The band recently admitted choosing songs for their album has been an “ordeal”.
Bassist Adam Clayton – who is joined by Bono, The Edge, and Larry Mullen Jr. in the group – said: “We’ve an abundance of great ideas and it’s really about identifying what to finish and how to finish it.”
The Edge added: “That’s the gift and the curse of this record. The ordeal is getting all four members to agree on the same dozen songs.”
‘Songs of Experience’ is expected to be released later this year.

Paloma Faith unveils new single Crybaby

OHMYGOSSIP — Paloma Faith has made a comeback with new single ‘Crybaby’.
The 35-year-old singer took a break from the spotlight to have a baby with long-term boyfriend Leyman Lahcine, and after giving birth in December she has announced her first song from her forthcoming album ‘Architect’, which is due to drop later this year.
The track is intense and deals with the idea that men struggle to open up about their true emotions and feelings.
Explaining the theme, Paloma said: “The lyrics are a conversation between a man and I, and the song questions whether global conflicts would cease to exist if men successfully dealt with their feelings.
“Would things be resolved without attack and with measure discussion?”
Despite the strong political stance to the track, the ‘Stone Cold Sober’ singer says her follow-up to 2014’s ‘A Perfect Contradiction’ is her take on global issues as an onlooker not politics.
Speaking on The Sun’s Bizarre Life podcast, she explained: “It’s important people don’t look at me and go, ‘Oh, it’s a political album’.
“I very carefully try to say it’s social-political, because I am not watching ‘Prime Minister’s Questions’ every week and I don’t know the ins and outs of everyone’s manifestos or whatever.
“It’s literally just observations from my perspective as the common man, sort of thing, saying, ‘This doesn’t seem right’.”
‘Crybaby’ is out now.

Liam Gallagher’s music passion inspired by Madonna

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher says Madonna’s ‘Like a Virgin’ was the first song to evoke his love of music.
The 44-year-old rocker has had an illustrous career but says his passion for singing started after he was “whacked” over the head with a hammer at school and woke up in hospital humming the queen of pop’s 1984 hit.
Liam’s career could have been much different if it wasn’t for Madonna’s song coming into his head, as he revealed he was more into football than music at the time.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: “I was always into football and I was never really into music.
“But then I got into some trouble at school, this geezer whacked me with this hammer and split my head open. When I woke up the first piece of music which went into my brain was ‘Like a Virgin’ by Madonna.
“I was sitting in hospital, singing along to ‘Like a Virgin’. I was thinking: ‘What the f***?’.
So Madonna, thank you very much.”
The 59-year-old megastar isn’t the only female powerhouse to influence the ‘Wall of Glass’ hitmaker, as he recently admitted his forthcoming ‘For What It’s Worth’ music video will be similar to Sinead O’Connor’s promo for her 1990 hit ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’.
Making reference to the fact he’s cut his hair short like Sinead’s was in the video to the Prince cover, he said: “It’s gonna be me, obviously, staring at the camera, signing the song. No bells and whistles. Letting the song do the business, do you know what I mean?
“Maybe like ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ … That kind of thing. I’ve got the haircut for it.”
The ‘Bold’ singer previously said the song is his “apology to all of the people he’s p****d” off” over the years.
The outspoken star has a long line of people he’s come to heads with over the years and he now uses Twitter to take aim at people, including his former bandmate and bitter sibling Noel Gallagher and the likes of U2 frontman Bono.

Fall Out Boy to donate Houston show proceeds to storm relief

OHMYGOSSIP — Fall Out Boy will donate proceeds from their Houston show to the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.
The ‘Uma Thurman’ hitmakers have pledged the sum from the Houston leg of their ‘Mania Tour’ on November 7 via their Fall Out Boy Fund after the tropical storm wreaked havoc in parts of Texas, killing 31 people and destroying or damaging 50,000 homes.
A series of messages on the group’s official Twitter account read: “Houston, our hearts are with you
“All proceeds from our 11/7 show @ the Toyota Center will benefit Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. (sic)”
The US rockers – made up of Patrick Stump, Joe Trohman, Pete Wentz and Andy Hurley – are due to play at the city’s Toyota Center on November 7 with support from Jaden Smith and Blackbear.
Tickets for the gig range from $70.50 to $30.50.
Fall Out Boy’s ‘Mania Tour’ was originally due to coincide with the release of their seventh studio album of the same name but they have since pushed the record back from September 15, 2017, to January 19, 2018.
Patrick confirmed the news on his Twitter account earlier this month.
He wrote: “I know we’re supposed to come up with some really exciting story to spin in pull-quotes about how the studio exploded and I ran in to save Pete’s bass or something. Or like aliens stole the master tapes. That would be fun for sure but the truth is, we just want the record to be better than we can make it in the next couple of weeks and it will require a little more time.
“Thanks for understanding and sorry to keep everybody waiting.”

Louis Tomlinson reveals his musical inspirations

OHMYGOSSIP — Louis Tomlinson’s solo career has been inspired by Oasis and the Arctic Monkeys.
The 25-year-old singer first found fame as part of One Direction, but has since turned solo, recently releasing the single ‘Back To You’, and Louis has now revealed the acts that have inspired his career.
Louis – who hails from Doncaster in England – shared: “I grew up loving bands, so I like really organic instruments – I like a lot of guitar.
“Because I’m from the north of England, naturally everyone’s kind of obsessed with Oasis, you know, and also, you know, Arctic Monkeys.”
Louis promised his future music will be “grounded”, rather than focusing on the “Hollywood-ized” and “almost unrealistic” situations found in other songs.
The musician also explained how the writing styles of his favourite bands have influenced him.
Speaking to MTV News, Louis said: “The way that they write, I’ve always found very interesting. Because, you know, if you look at a pop song fundamentally, lyrically it’s very different [from] the conversational style the Arctic Monkeys or Oasis might use. And that’s exciting to me.”
Meanwhile, Steve Aoki recently claimed Louis’ debut solo album will “blow people’s minds”.
The EDM superstar collaborated with the One Direction hunk on his debut solo single ‘Just Hold On’ and he was so impressed with the record that he plans on getting back into the studio with the singer when the chance arises.
Asked if the pair are going to work together again, the ‘Lit’ hitmaker said: “We’ve been talking about doing future music as well and we always try and figure out time between schedules. Plus he’s crushing it with ‘Back to You’. I love that track.”

Liam Gallagher’s Sinead O’ Connor-inspired video

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher’s ‘For What It’s Worth’ music video will be similar to Sinead O’Connor’s ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’.
The 44-year-old rocker’s latest song from his debut solo album ‘As You Were’ is a sombre number and unlike his promo clips for lead single ‘Wall of Glass’ and second track ‘Chinatown’, Liam won’t be doing anything extravagant with the visuals for his third one and will simply be singing to the camera.
Making reference to the fact he’s cut his hair short like Sinead’s was in her video for the Prince cover in 1990, he told Radio X: “It’s gonna be me, obviously, staring at the camera, signing the song.
The former Oasis and Beady Eye frontman has a long line of people he’s come to heads with over the years and he now uses Twitter to take aim at people, including his former bandmate and bitter sibling Noel Gallagher and the likes of U2 frontman Bono.
Asked about the themes of regret on the third single from his forthcoming debut solo LP ‘As You Were’, Liam previously explained: “Yeah, obviously I’ve made a lot of mistakes.
“That’s life. I guess it is an apology to whoever. I’ve p****d” off a lot of people.
“But I’m certainly not gonna write a song for each and every one of them.
“There’s one there. F*****’ deal with it and move on.”
‘For What It’s Worth’ is also reportedly an apology to Liam’s ex-wife Nicole Appleton.
The lyrics appear to allude to his split from his former flame, which came after her fathered a child, Gemma, four, following a fling with journalist Liza Ghorbani.
He sings the chorus: “I’ll be the first to say I’m sorry, I made my own mistakes. For what it’s worth I know it’s just a word and words betray. Sometimes we lose our way.”
‘As You Were’ is released on October 6.

BRIT Awards 2018 date announced

OHMYGOSSIP — The 2018 BRIT Awards with MasterCard will take place on February 21.
The annual glitzy ceremony is one of the biggest nights in the UK music calendar, and on Wednesday (30.08.17) it was announced that next year’s extravaganza – which marks the 38th awards show – will be broadcast live on ITV on February 21.
The BRIT Awards will take place at London’s O2 Arena for the eighth year running, and organisers are hoping the show will do as well as the 2017 awards which took place earlier this year, and saw the event reach 8.5 million people in the UK, and a further 27 million through VEVO and YouTube.
Organisers are also no doubt hoping the 2018 awards will bring in as much charitable donations as the 2017 show too, which saw at least £1.5m raised for charitable and educational activities.
The War Child charity alone received £567,000 from the 2017 BRIT Awards, which was in part raised by BRITs Week, which hosted a series of incredible live shows in the week leading up to the main event through a partnership between the BPI and AEG.
Acts such as Craig David, The 1975, Lianne La Havas and Basement Jaxx played across London helping to raise money for the cause.
Elsewhere, a further £250,000 was also raised for The BRIT School, which offers performing arts eduction to teenagers with promising talent.
The BRIT Awards also partnered with Life Water in 2013, and a portion of the money raised by the event also went toward funding clean water projects which, in the past four years, has helped provide clean water to 4,991 people.
The remaining funds are donated to the BRIT Trust charity, whose mantra is to ‘support young people in music and education’, with its main financial obligations to the BRIT School and Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy.
To date The BRIT Awards have raised over £20 million for The BRIT Trust charity.
