Ronan Keating’s fond memories working with Barry Gibb

OHMYGOSSIP — Ronan Keating says getting to spend a week writing songs with Bee Gees legend Barry Gibb was an “amazing experience”.
The former Boyzone singer was involved in the recording of the disco legends’ compilation LP ‘Love Songs’ and co-wrote and produced the song ‘Lovers and Friends’ in 1999 with Barry and his late brother Maurice, who sadly died four years later at the age of 53.
Speaking during his first ever Breakfast Show for Magic Radio on Monday (04.09.17), Ronan recalled: “We spent five days away together writing and recording. It goes without saying how special The Bee Gees are and for me to work and spend time with Barry who’s such a legendary writer is always such an amazing experience.”
The Bee Gees – which also included the late Robin Gibb, who died of cancer in Mary 2012 – released the album consisting of all of their ballads in 2005 and it features some lesser known hits including ‘Secret Love’ and ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls’.
It followed after the success of 2004’s ‘Number Ones’, containing their biggest hits.
Boyzone famously covered Bee Gees’ hit 1977 single ‘Words’ and the two groups even performed the song live together in the 90s.
Speaking about how the band took the ‘No Matter What’ hitmakers “under their wing”, Ronan said when Robin passed away: “We were lucky enough to work with him, to sing with him, perform a song called ‘Words’ together and they really took us under their wing and they were great to Boyzone.”

The lead track is the new wave band’s finest work and songwriter Chris says it is down to his great “musical bonding” with guitarist Glen.
He said: “I’m so proud of this song, its flowing different and yet familiar. I don’t think we have reached this kind of musical bonding in a very long time.”
The band’s 15th studio LP follows 2015’s critically-acclaimed ‘Cradle To The Grave’.
‘The Knowledge’ was recorded at 45 RPM Studios in Charlton, South East London and finds Glenn and Chris once again in the company of drummer Simon Hanson and keyboard wizard Stephen Large.
This time round there is the introduction of Yolanda Charles on bass and Steve Smith on percussion.
Yolanda said: “I’m so excited to be invited to play with Squeeze. The guys were a pleasure to record the new album with and I know playing the live shows will be a fantastic experience.”
And Steve, who has previously supported Glenn on tour and has a deep personal connection with the band’s music, added: “I don’t know how many musicians get the chance of a lifetime to join the very first band that they ever went to see in concert.”
The band will head out on a tour in support of the record next month, kicking off at Rhyl Pavilion in North Wales on October 5 and concluding at London’s Royal Albert Hall on November 6.

Paul Cattermole threatens to sue S Club 3

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Cattermole has threatened to sue his former S Club 7 bandmates for continuing to perform as S Club 3.
The 40-year-old singer – who quit the 90s pop group in 2002 to reform his nu-metal band Skua – is annoyed that Jo O’Meara, Bradley McIntosh and Tina Barrett are touring as a three-piece, and took to Twitter on Sunday (03.09.17) to reveal that he is considering taking legal action because he feels the trio are “defaming” his “professional character” and falsely advertising their act.
Paul – who was also joined by Jon Lee, Hannah Spearritt and Rachel Stevens in the group – reunited with the band for the 2015 ‘Bring It All Back’ tour, but wants to put an end to Jo, Bradley and Tina carrying on as he feels they should have gone out on a “high” after their last show.
In a series of tweets he wrote: “I could actually sue them for incorrect advertising and the defamation of my professional character. This still might happen … Why on earth didn’t S Club 3 stop when the tour stopped and go out on a high? … I have been given every right to say what I like about the situation because of how I have been mistreated by it. (sic)”
Paul’s outburst may come as a surprise to Rachel who said just last month she would love to see the ‘Reach’ hitmakers get back together to mark their 20th anniversary.
The 39-year-old singer, who went on to have a successful solo career after the band split in 2003, knows fans want S Club to mark the two decades since their 1998 formation next year, and said she wanted to discuss the options with her bandmates.
She said: “The hardcore fans want a 20-year reunion and I could see that happening. It will be something we’ll have to talk about.
“It was so fun when we did the reunion tour a few years ago, it was absolutely brilliant and it was so lovely to see everyone again. Nostalgia is a big thing to people and we really felt that. It was perfect for what we wanted to get out of it for the fans.”
S Club 7 scored four number one singles, sold more than 13 million albums worldwide and had their own hit TV show.

Walter Becker has died aged 67

OHMYGOSSIP — Steely Dan co-founder Walter Becker has died aged 67.
The guitarist – who helped to form the jazz-flavoured band alongside Donald Fagen when they were both studying at Bard College in New York – passed away on Sunday (03.09.17), according to his personal website, which did not disclose the cause of death.
The band produced seven albums between 1972 and 1980 and are remembered for their hits such as ‘Do it Again’, ‘Rikki Don’t Lose That Number’ and ‘Deacon Blues’.
The latter single featured on their 1977 album ‘Aja’, which sold more than five million copies and is widely regarded as being their best-ever record.
The band split following 1980’s ‘Gaucho’ album, but reformed 20 years later to make the Grammy-winning ‘Two Against Nature’.
In July, Becker missed two Steely Dan concert due to poor health.
And Fagen has already paid a glowing tribute to his long-time musical partner.
In a statement, he said: “Walter Becker was smart as a whip, an excellent guitarist and a great songwriter. He was cynical about human nature, including his own, and hysterically funny.”
Fagen also confirmed he plans to continue to “keep the music we created together alive as long as I can with the Steely Dan band”.
Tributes to the musician have already started pouring in, with Mark Ronson saying Becker was “one half of the team I aspire to every time I sit down at a piano”.
Ryan Adams tweeted: “Walter Becker, you changed my life with music. You are so loved
Straight to the stars…. My friend (sic)”
Elsewhere, hip-hop star Talib Kweli wrote on Twitter: “Damn. About to listen to Steely Dan all day. Thank you Mr. Becker for a lifetime of great music. De La Soul introduced me to Steely Dan when they sampled this beautiful piece of music. Peg. RIPWalterBecker. (sic)”

Garbage announce first UK live show in over two years

OHMYGOSSIP — Garbage have announced their first UK show in over two years.
The ‘Why Do You Love Me’ hitmakers surprised fans on Sunday evening (03.09.17) when they took to Facebook to share the details of a one-off performance at London’s O2 Academy Brixton on September 14, which is to mark two decades of their second album ‘ Version 2.0′.
In a statement, they said: “Looking forward to playing our first UK show in over 2 years at London’s O2 Academy Brixton on Friday, September 14th 2018! This show will be a 20-year celebration of our seminal second album, “Version 2.0″ This should be a very special night for us all. Tickets will be available on September 8th: (sic)”
Shirley Manson and Co have also revealed that are working on their follow-up to 2016’s ”Strange Little Birds’ and even have a book coming out, thought it was a pain to write because so much has happened in their career spanning more than two decades.
Shirley – who is joined by drummer Butch Vig and guitarist Steve Marker in the punk trio – recently told NME magazine: “We’ll start on the record in the summer and we’ve had a book out, which was an absolute pain in the f***ing arse. We’re happy that it’s now finished and we at least have put things down on paper. After 22 years of constantly making new memories it’s harder and harder to remember what happened in the beginning, and so we’ll have that for our families and friends.”
The pink-haired frontwoman says they’ll have a better idea of their direction with the new record once they are all in the room together
The 51-year-old beauty said: “I think each individual has their own ideas. We fluctuate. The record is the dictator. It’s not us. I would love to be the dictator and I’m sure Butch would and Steven would but it’s more about what happens when we get in the room and what occurs when we’re together.”

Dave Grohl was inspired to play guitar by The Beatles

OHMYGOSSIP — Dave Grohl learned to “play guitar” thanks to The Beatles.
The Foo Fighters frontman was presented with the iconic group’s greatest hits collections, along with a book of their music, by his mother when he was younger, and spent hours honing his skills by playing along to the records.
Speaking to Mojo magazine, he said: “That’s really where I learned to play guitar. I would put an album on, find the page with the song, try to play along according to this simple music sheet, almost like I was in a band in my bedroom, trying to follow along with these other players.
“I’d have to remember an arrangement, and changes and tempo and melody. So those two albums were my music teacher when I was young.”
And the former Nirvana drummer was also driven to work on his sticks skills by another talented musician, after he realised his ability was not a patch on Led Zeppelin’s John Bonham.
He said: “‘The Song Remains the Same’ blew my mind. That’s when I really became a drummer, listening to that album and realising how poor a drummer I actually was.
“I’d been learning to play drums on pillows, listening to the Bad Brains and Minor Threat.
“When I heard the power and clarity of John Bonham on that CD, I thought, I’ve got a lot of work to do.”
Dave, 48, even credits the 1980 AC/DC concert film, ‘Let There Be Rock’, for the high energy of Foo Fighters performances.
He explained: “I saw that movie when I was 10 or 11 years old … I had never seen a performance like that. So the energy and the simplicity totally blew my mind.
“It was the first time I’d ever listened to music that made me want to smash windows. Then I bought the record.
“The energy that Foo Fighters try to give off is rooted in the night I saw that movie.”

Robbie Williams is ‘more cocky’ on stage when he is terrified

OHMYGOSSIP — Robbie Williams is “more cocky” on stage when he is most “terrified”.
The 43-year-old musician has admitted his confident and “arrogant” persona is just a façade for when he feels petrified prior to performing on stage in front of a large crowd of people.
Speaking about his personality to The Sunday Times magazine, the dark-haired heartthrob said: “I’m a show person. The more cocky and arrogant I look onstage, the more terrified I am.”
Although the ‘Angels’ hitmaker considers himself to be a “chronic people-pleaser”, he has admitted that deep down he feels “socially awkward” and uncomfortable when he has to take pictures with his fans and sign autographs.
He explained: “I am a chronic people-pleaser, which leads to a sort of exasperation with everybody wanting a picture and me wanting to protect myself from having to do that all the time. I hate saying no because I don’t want them to think I’m an awful person. And I don’t like saying yes, because I’m socially awkward and every single moment I have meeting a stranger feels like trauma to me.
“I fill a space with something — and that space is like everybody’s Facebook page, a snapshot of the best bits of their lives. That’s what I try to project.”
But Robbie – who has four-year-old daughter Theodora and two-year-old son Charlton with his wife Ayda Field – has admitted he has “pulled the wool” of everyone’s eyes for a “long time” and lead people to believe in his “s**t”, which was “not real”.
He continued: “For a long time, I pulled the wool over my — and everybody else’s — eyes into believing I was the s**t. I thought I was Zeus. But it’s not real.”
Meanwhile, Robbie is currently in the middle of his ‘The Heavy Entertainment Show’ tour, and he has not left his room the entire time, except to perform, because of his anxiety and fear he cannot escape if he needed to.
He explained: “I am agoraphobic. I haven’t left my room on the whole tour. I watch a lot of podcasts on YouTube. There’s a guy called the True Geordie, who I’ve been consumed with. Before that it was George Galloway, the politician, and Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens and Russell Brand. I spent a long time contemplating atheism and religion — not that I’ve come up with anything.”

New album for Katie Price

OHMYGOSSIP — Katie Price is working on an album.
The 39-year-old former glamour model has revealed that she is excited to return to the studio and doesn’t care what people think about her music.
Speaking during ‘An Audience With Katie Price’ in Preston, she said: “I’m like my real dad in a lot of ways – he likes to entertain and is a singer, in Brighton I’ll get him to come up on stage and sing with me.
“I’m working on an album at the moment – I’m definitely bringing an album out, I don’t care what anyone says. I wanted to do it so I’m doing it.
“I’m not really a singer – still really getting used to it.”
Katie previously made a failed bid to represent the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005 and earlier this year, she released the single ‘I Got U’, calling herself a “frustrated pop star.”
Although her vocals have been slammed by fans, she’s adamant she won’t let anything stand in her way as nothing can destroy her passion for singing.
She said: “I’m a frustrated pop star and I won’t let anything stand in my way.”
The blonde bombshell is even convinced she can bag a collaboration with Chris Brown or Justin Bieber in the not too distant future but currently has her sights set on Alexander O’Neal.
She explained: “We performed at my wedding [when she and her estranged husband Kieran Hayler renewed their wedding vows in 2015] together and sang ‘Saturday Love’.”

David Bowie’s Arabic rap

OHMYGOSSIP — David Bowie recorded an Arabic rap on a song remixed by Tony Visconti.
The 73-year-old producer – who worked with the late music legend throughout his career right until his death in January 2016 – has revealed the 1979 track ‘Yassassin’ originally saw the ‘Starman’ hitmaker spit some lyrics, but the ‘Lodger’ album version saw it cut.
Visconti – who produced Bowie’s final record ‘Blackstar’ – says he was very protective about working on old stuff and always wanted to “move forward” with whatever he was doing.
He said: “I found some little gems on the tapes. At the end of ‘Yassassin’, David does a little Arabic rap that didn’t make the record.
“I put it on the mix this time and it sounds wonderful. David was proud of these re-releases, but he didn’t want to get involved.
“There are so many capable people, who could deal with it. He’d hear the final test pressing and say, ‘Great, It’s wonderful. Release it.’ But he always wanted to move on.”
Visconti has remixed ‘Lodger’ for the 2017 boxset ‘David Bowie: A New Town (1977 – 1982)’, which is the third in a series spanning the ‘Heroes’ hitmaker’s career, and did it without Bowie knowing, but he approved of it.
He told Uncut magazine: “Over the years, David and I bemoaned how we wanted to remix it. But we never got around to doing it until there was a break in recording ‘Blackstar’.
“I thought, ‘If I don’t do something about ‘Lodger’, it’ll never get off ground. I started remixing it on my own time, without David’s knowledge. When I had five mixes done, I played it to him. He absolutely loved it and gave it the green light.”

Motorhead will honour Lemmy ‘when the time is right’

OHMYGOSSIP — Motorhead will honour late frontman Lemmy “when the time is right”.
The ‘Ace of Spades’ rockers were left devastated when metal band’s frontman sadly passed away in December 2015 after suffering from inoperable prostate cancer, and while there were reports of them performing some shows in his memory, drummer Mikey Dee says they’ll only do it when there is a “craving” for it.
He said: “There is the possibility of doing that when the time is right.
“One day there is going to be a craving for something like this, and when there’s a craving for it we have to do it in a proper way.”
Mikey, 53, wants to make sure they take their time and make something really special for their legendary bandmate.
He told Billboard: “Only with the right formation and the right timing – to do it too soon would be a disaster.
“But I’m totally open to doing something and I’m going to do my damnedest to put something really, really great together.”
Earlier this year, it was revealed that a Lemmy solo album is to be posthumously released later this year.
Jim Voxx of 90s rock band Skew Siskin has produced the 10-track record and has confirmed the project is nearing completion and is on track to drop before 2017 is out.
The ‘Shake Me’ rocker said: “We are in the very last stages of the Lemmy solo album.
“I still don’t know when it will be released because this is in the hands of the Motorhead management and it took a while. Lemmy had so many things left – there are so many other recordings and they all had to sort out how to proceed.
“There is no real time rush to release this album so I can imagine it will be towards the end of this year.”
Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and a whole host of rock musicians worked on the songs with Lemmy back in 2003, and it was hoped it would be released long ago, but the project ceased up when he became ill.
Voxx said: “Lemmy also recorded some tracks in America with Dave Grohl or Reverend Horton Heat and in London he was working with The Damned. All these tracks came to me in Berlin.
“We started out with two Skew Siskin songs. It was the total opposite of working with Motorhead because he had to do it in his free time between the Motorhead work.
“But I gave him the possibility to come here and work in the studio whenever he needed and step-by-step we got the songs together. We have 10 songs, and we thought it would have been released a long time ago but when Lemmy got ill, we stopped working on it but the recordings were all done.”

The ‘Writing’s On The Wall’ hitmaker thrilled fans by sharing the “wait is nearly over” for his comeback but admitted he is both “scared and excited” about the new record.

Thank you for being so patient and for letting me have the past year to really escape into my mind & write music so freely. I feel so rejuvenated and have so many stories I can’t wait to tell you.
“The wait is so nearly over. Something is coming very very very very soon. I am scared & excited at the same time. I’ve poured my soul & heart into this record.”
Sam’s new album looks set to be called ‘TPH-50HR’ after it appeared on his Wikipedia page with a release date of September 2017.
A source previously claimed Sam had named his follow-up to 2015’s ‘In the Lonely Hour’ after his family home, The Pink House, 50 Heydon Road.
The insider shared at the time: “Sam has chosen the title as the ultimate tribute to his parents Fred and Kate and sisters who have always supported his dream. They never once tried to dissuade him following his dreams, so it’s a very personal record.”
The record is expected to feature a whole host of collaborations from the likes of Clean Bandit, Timbaland and Frances who worked with the pop star on his comeback.

It’s going to be an incredibly special night and I’m so thankful to have Ed there with me to perform.”
Whilst the flame-haired hunk is performing with Holly, Emeli Sande will be doing a set at the media mogul’s son Sam’s London home.
Sam said: “As a lover of music, I couldn’t be more happy to host such a talent at my own home. It’s going to be a very special evening for such a great cause. Really looking forward to it!”
Ed, 26, is thrilled to be able to help the campaign.
He said: “We all deserve a home, not just the memory of one. That’s why I’m proud to join Amnesty International and Sofar’s Give a Home campaign in raising awareness for the global refugee crisis and funds for Amnesty’s important work.”
Hozier, Moby and Laura Mvula were recently added to the line-up.
Take Me to Church’ hitmaker Hozier, who will be performing in his hometown of Dublin, Ireland said: “There’s something wonderful about sharing a live music experience in the warmth and closeness of someone’s home, which was my experience with Sofar. I’m thrilled to be taking part in the Give A Home gigs, a global act of welcome which embodies the hospitable spirit of Sofar with the important work of Amnesty International.”
Other artists playing in the concert series at top-secret venues around the world include Archive, Blaenavon, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, Imelda May, Jon Hopkins w/ Leo Abrahams, Marika Hackman, Nick Mulvey, Sivu, The Hoosiers, To Kill A King and We Were Promised Jetpacks.
And previously announced were Above & Beyond, Eliza & The Bear, James Morrison, Jessie Ware, JP Cooper, KT Tunstall, Nina Nesbitt, Nothing but Thieves, Rudimental, Sampa the Great, The Jezabels and Wild Beasts.
The funds raised will support Amnesty International’s work in documenting human rights abuses and violations against refugees and pushing governments to find a sustainable solution.
More than 22 million people have been forced to flee their home country, so the aim of the ambitious concert series is to unite people in showing solidarity with refugees.
Fans have until September 10 to apply for tickets through sofarsounds.com/giveahome. From the site, people will be able to select their city and the event of their choice to be in with a chance of winning two tickets. They will have the option of making a donation when applying for tickets.
