Bono wants ‘joy’ in music

OHMYGOSSIP — Bono wants to emulate his musical heroes by bringing “joy” into the world.
The U2 frontman has cited the likes of The Beatles, Prince and Oasis amongst his favourite artists, and explained how he hopes to ease people around the world through difficult times through hopeful songs.
He explained: “Unlike happiness, joy is one of the hardest human emotions to contrive for an artist but it is the mark of my favourite artists whether that be the Beatles, Prince, Beethoven, Oasis.
“It is life force itself. And I think something to do with the spilling over of gratitude for just being alive. Indeed as I think of it, Beethoven has his ‘Ode to Joy.’ ”
The ‘With Or Without You’ rocker also put forward ‘Stop in the Name of Love’ by The Supremes as a defiant anti-war anthem, and said artists have an obligation to fight tough times with joyous music.
He added: “This is where rock & roll came in, this is what makes us useful. We must resist surrendering to melancholy for only the most special moments.”
The 57-year-old rocker also referred to his recent performance of ‘Bullet the Blue Sky’ on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’, during which he hit out at US president Donald Trump.
He explained: “It is a little bit of a departure as I’ve always believed in working across the aisle as an anti-poverty activist but this isn’t a matter of right or left. There’s a bully on the bully pulpit and silence is not an option.”

Liam Gallagher to bring Skepta out on tour?

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher could be set to be joined by Skepta on his forthcoming solo tour.
The former Oasis frontman has taken his ‘bromance’ with the grime star to the next level by buying him a birthday present, whilst also inviting the ‘Shutdown’ rapper to join him on stage to perform “that natural mystic tune” – which could be referring to late reggae legend Bob Marley’s 1977 hit ‘Natural Mystic’, though it’s not sure which song Liam is referring too – when he goes out on the road in December.
The ‘For What It’s Worth’ singer celebrated his 45th birthday on Thursday (21.09.17) and the ‘Shutdown’ rapper reached out to the rocker to let him know he turned 35 just two days before him.
Much to Skepta’s surprise, Liam wrote back telling him he’s got him a gift and to “stay tuned”.
After Liam tweeted: “Life begins at 45 then as you were LFUKING x (sic)”
Skepta replied: “F**k. Your birthday is 2 days after mine, yeah that makes sense. Happy new year brother as you were – SK (sic)”
And Liam wrote back: “Yes Virgo bro when you coming round my way I got a bday present for ya stay tuned there’s a natural mystic blowing true the air as you were (sic)”
He continued: “I’m gonna do that natural mystic tune on my tour you up for getting up and down if your around LG x (sic)”
Skepta joked that he’ll need to step up his security because a Liam and Skepta performance won’t be “taken lightly”.
The Londoner replied: “Of course. Tell security to double up, LG and Skepta together is not something to be taken lightly as you were – SK x (sic)”
Declaring his love for the ‘That’s Not Me’ star, Liam previously said: “Man like Skepta keeping it real. Got to stand for something.”
The ‘Wall of Glass’ hitmaker got into grime through his youngest son Gene, 16, and since he shared his respect for the scene, rappers like Skepta and Stormzy have voiced their mutual admiration for Liam’s music and attitude.
Liam kicks off his UK tour in support of his debut solo LP ‘As You You Were’ on December 1 at the First Direct Arena in Leeds.

Marilyn Manson: Columbine shootings destroyed my career

OHMYGOSSIP — Marilyn Manson says the Columbine High School shootings “destroyed his entire career at the time”.
The ‘KILL4ME’ hitmaker has opened about how the tragic killing spree in 1999, in Columbine, Colorado, impacted on his life after the teenage culprits, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, who allegedly wore his merchandise and were fans of his music, killed 13 people.
The 48-year-old goth rocker’s first album to be released after the horrific incident, 2000’s ‘Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death)’, was a rebuttal to the accusations levelled against him, but under-performed commercially.
In an interview with Britain’s Guardian newspaper, Manson spilled: “Give them the money and let them make their own choice: guns or records. If (Klebold and Harris) had just bought my records, they would be better off.
“Certain people blame me for the shootings at schools – I think my numbers are low, and hopefully they go up on (my upcoming) record.
“But, honestly, the Columbine era destroyed my entire career at the time.”
After his name got caught up in the massacre, Manson received death threats and would have people protesting and throwing stuff on stage at him at his shows in Colorado, but he responded by cutting himself with sharp objects and punching members of the audience.
He recalled: “I would just get on stage and smash beer bottles and cut myself and go, ‘F**k you, bring it!’ – I’ve got the scars all over my chest – I can show you.
“I would jump into the crowd and punch people. It wasn’t even those people who were at fault.
“But my dad gave me the best advice; ‘If people are going to kill you, son, they wouldn’t tell you in advance.’
“No, I don’t miss that at all. It made everyone around me upset.”
In 2013, Manson revealed he was blamed for pretty much every school shooting that happened ever since.
At the time, he said: “I was the best face to attach to at the time because I put myself in the role of villain. “Because I think villains are the key to any good story. “Before they were showing anything, they said a gang of kids wearing Marilyn Manson T-shirts shot up a school … I think I’ve been blamed for about 36 school shootings.”
The ‘Tainted Love’ singer releases new LP ‘Heaven Upside Down’ on October 6.

The Killers had group therapy sessions

OHMYGOSSIP — The Killers had group therapy sessions.
Brandon Flowers and co were willing to do all it takes to get their first album in five years, ‘Wonderful Wonderful’ – the follow-up to 2012’s ‘Battle Born – made and even tried to get everyone in one room with a therapist to talk through their issues, but it was often an uncomfortable and unproductive experience.
In an interview with The I newspaper, Brandon admitted: “We are different people, and I’m a very confrontational person. But I am working on it.”
Asked how they got through their differences, he said: “We did (therapy) a few times, but even then, not everybody turned up, and when they did, not everybody talked.
“It wasn’t always a comfortable situation …”
Now, the ‘Somebody Told Me’ hitmakers are down to just two original members after guitarist Dave Keuning and bass player Mark Stoermer quit touring for personal reasons, leaving just Brandon and drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr.
Brandon admits there has always been things that have gone wrong and that he’d hoped they’d have done more albums by now.
He said: “We’ve always struggled. We struggled on the road, in the studio.
“Nothing has ever gone smoothly.
“We should be on our eighth studio album now, our ninth, but things always got complicated.
“We want different things, I guess.”
Asked if they are still on talking terms with Dave and Mark – who have been replaced by long-term touring members Jake Blanton and Ted Sablay respectively – Brandon admitted: “We’re not meeting up at Chili’s [American diner] very often, put it that way.”

U2’s Bono cured Brandon Flowers’ writer’s block

OHMYGOSSIP — Brandon Flowers went to Bono for advice on writer’s block.
The Killers frontman had a dry spell when writing lyrics for the band’s new record ‘Wonderful Wonderful’, which was “frustrating”, but after the U2 star suggested the song title ‘Have All The Songs Been Written?’, which appears on the album, Brandon got his songwriting-mojo back.
In an interview with The Sun newspaper, the 36-year-old singer recalled: “It was frustrating. I remember hearing people talk about losing it. And as I’ve been pretty prolific, it was strange to feel like that.
“I felt lost but I just pushed through. I’ve always been hard-working, that’s one of my attributes. I’ve a strong work ethic and so I sat at the piano and didn’t give up.
“And Bono is someone I would look to for guidance.
“We don’t see each other that frequently but he has had a lot of experience and has gone through things I go through.”
The ‘Run For Cover’ hitmaker knew after the band’s last record, 2012’s ‘Battle Born’, that it was time for the band to jump a different “plane” in terms of their sound and producer Jacknife Lee – who did produced ‘How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb’ with U2 – played a massive part in that transition.
Brandon explained: “Jacknife is very aware of what is happening in music now.
“He is also very familiar with The Killers and understood we wanted to experiment.
“The studio is also an instrument and he is the wizard. And I’m less stubborn to change the older I’ve got.
“Instead of digging my heels in and not wanting to change, I’ve gone in the opposite direction.
“I’m more willing to see what other people have to offer or find out what this nob or button does in the studio.
“We’re on a different plane this record.
“We went to some new places, but this album still sounds like The Killers. We have definitely pushed ourselves and there is some evolution. We have tried something with chords that we’ve never done before.”
‘Wonderful Wonderful’ is out now.

Paloma Faith breast pumped whilst recording LP

OHMYGOSSIP — Paloma Faith recorded her new album as she pumped breast milk.
The 36-year-old star returns with new record ‘The Architect’ on November 17, and has revealed the sound she made whilst preparing her baby’s meal was nearly sampled on a song, but she rejected her producer’s idea because she can’t stand using the mechanical device to extract milk from her lactating boobs.
She shared: “As I was recording I was pumping breast milk and the producer I was working with at the time was like, ‘Shall we sample that because it’s so familiar?’
“I really just want to say how much I hate pumping breast milk and I am so glad that I’m not doing it anymore. It is absolutely delicious!”
The ‘Only Love Can Hurt Like This’ hitmaker says she wrote the album for her first child – whom she has with partner Leyman Lahcine – who she welcomed into the world in December, to prepare her for them for both the good and bad parts of society.
Speaking on an episode of UK TV talk show ‘The Jonathan Ross Show’ airing on Saturday (23.09.17), she said: “It’s a socio-political commentary record because, I’ve always been of that way inclined but I feel like when you become a parent you look less at yourself and you look more at the world.
“I think my album is me saying what’s beautiful and what’s terrible about the world to this child, and apologising that it’s not all ready for them when they arrived all perfect and great as it could be.”
The blonde beauty – who released her last record ‘A Perfect Contradiction’ in 2014 – was inspired to freshen up her sound after becoming a parent for the first time.
She explained: “I wanted to write something more modern. On previous albums I’ve been more concerned with the past, but now I’m looking forward because of motherhood and wanting to change things for a better future. It’s a marriage of old and new.”

Blink-182 join Chester Bennington tribute concert

OHMYGOSSIP — Blink-182 have joined the line-up for Chester Bennington’s tribute concert.
The rock trio have announced they will be taking to the stage at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on October 27 to pay tribute to the late Linkin Park frontman – who tragically took his own life in July this year at the age of 41 – at the ‘Linkin Park & Friends Celebrate Life in Honour of Chester Bennington’ tribute concert.
Taking to Twitter to confirm the news, the ‘All The Small Things’ hitmakers wrote: “In honor of our friend #ChesterBennington, we’re excited to announce we’ll be performing w/ @LinkinPark October 27. (sic)”
As well as headline act Linkin Park – who will be performing without Chester for the first time – Blink-182 will be joined by the likes of Korn frontman Jonathan Davies, Avenged Sevenfold members M. Shadows and Synyster Gates, several members of System of a Down, Yellowcard singer William Ryan Key, and solo artist Kiiara, who featured on Linkin Park track ‘Heavy’.
Meanwhile, Linkin Park singer Mike Shinoda recently revealed he was unsure about performing at the concert until he spoke to legendary producer Rick Rubin, who told him he would be helping to deliver a “cathartic experience” to their fans.
Mike said: “I had gone to Rick Rubin as a source of guidance. He said, ‘I think you guys need to get onstage.’ I think that’ll be the thing that’ll feel good. It’ll be super, super hard. We haven’t gone out together in public, we haven’t played.
“[He said] ‘The fans want to see you. Not because they want to see a show, there’s a cathartic experience that needs to happen and it’ll inform what you guys are doing.'”
Money raised from the concert will go to Music for Relief’s One More Light Fund in memory of the late singer, and tickets go on sale at 10am PDT on Friday (22.09.17).

Questlove to launch ‘guide to living your best life’

OHMYGOSSIP — Questlove’s new book is “a guide to living your best life”.
The 46-year-old hip-hop star is set to release his book, titled ‘Creative Quest’, in April 2018 and the musician has revealed it will explore the issue of creativity and how to discover it.
Questlove’s publisher, Ecco, explained: “Whether discussing his own life or channeling the lessons he’s learned from forefathers such as George Clinton, collaborators like D’Angelo, or like-minded artists including Ava DuVernay, David Byrne, Björk, and others, Questlove speaks with the candour and enthusiasm that fans have come to expect.
“Creative Quest is many things – above all, a wise and wide-ranging conversation around the eternal mystery of creativity.”
The book’s cover features an abstract sculpture of Questlove – who stars in the Grammy Award-winning band The Roots – made out of normal, everyday objects.
And the percussionist – whose real name is Ahmir Thompson – has explained the meaning behind the cover.
He told Buzzfeed: “When it came time to do the cover for this book, what sprung to mind was making a machine about how things spring to mind, and a Rube Goldberg machine was the perfect match.
“What else is creativity? It’s a brain passing through a million small steps to be able to take one big step.”
The Roots frontman has written books before, including ‘something to food about: Exploring Creativity with America’s Most Innovative Chefs’ in 2016 and his memoir ‘Mo’ Meta Blues’ in 2013.

Zara Larsson’s sexy pop album

OHMYGOSSIP — Zara Larsson’s second album is sounding “sexy”.
The ‘I Would Like’ hitmaker released her debut LP ‘So Good’ earlier this year, and she’s already hard at work on her follow-up as she’s penned two songs with MNEK, though she’s not sure if they’ll make the final cut.
She told Official Charts Company:”I started two-and-a-half months ago with MNEK and we wrote two amazing songs. “I’m not sure if they’ll make the album yet, but I love to work with him. He is such a blessing to work with. Ever since that session it’s been going super well.
“It’s very early but for now, it’s kind of mysterious and a little sexy, but still pop, of course.”
The pop beauty previously teased that her next album will be “cheesy” because it’s all about being in love.
Updating her fans on Twitter, she wrote previously: “Hello everyone I just wanted to tell y’all than I’m in love so the next album will probably be cheesy (sic)”
It’s anyone’s guess who has made her explode with love as Zara revealed in March she was seeing two guys at the same time, explaining she is not “exclusive” to anyone.
Opening up about her dating life, the blonde beauty shared at the time: “I’m dating a couple of people. I’m not exclusively anyone’s.”

Ward Thomas’ record virtual duet with late Roy Orbison

OHMYGOSSIP — Ward Thomas have recorded a virtual version of ‘I Drove All Night’ featuring the late Roy Orbison.
The country music duo – comprised of twin sisters Catherine and Lizzy – laid down their vocals with a brand new accompaniment from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to feature on the new LP ‘A Love So Beautiful: Roy Orbison with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’.
The pair commented: “We were so excited to be asked to duet with the late Roy Orbison on this great album!
“It is a strange concept to be duet-ing with a vocal that was recorded before we were even born.
“But the fact that we are still able to duet now just adds to the wonder of it. It was an honour to be part of it.”
The song was recorded by Roy the year before his death in 1987, and wasn’t released until 1992, but was made famous by Cyndi Lauper who had a top 10 hit with it in 1989.
As well as classic tracks such as ‘Oh, Pretty Woman’, ‘Crying’ and ‘Only the Lonely’, the album also features an alternate version of ‘Pretty Paper’, Roy’s 1963 hit penned by folk legend Willie Nelson.
The record will be released on November 3, in partnership with Roy’s Boys LLC, the Nashville-based company founded by the late icon’s sons to administer their father’s catalogue and safeguard his legacy.
Alex Orbison, President of Roy’s Boys and the youngest of Roy Orbison’s sons, said: “If ever there were a singer whose body of work benefits from a collaboration with the Royal Philharmonic it would be Roy Orbison. During the course of his career and after his passing it was constantly noted that his transcendent vocal ability made him something of an anomaly in the world of pop and rock and that, in another life, he would have taken the classical music/opera world by storm. Soon, we’ll all be able to experience that ‘life’ with the release of this project. It’s more than an album release, it’s the fulfilment of a prophecy in a very tangible way.”
Roy’s sons Wesley (guitar), Roy Jr. (guitar) and Alex (drums) have provided instrumental backing on selected tracks, along with 10-month-old grandson Roy III (guitar, tambourine).
‘A Love So Beautiful: Roy Orbison with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’ tracklisting is as follows:
1) ‘In Dreams’
2) ‘Crying’
3) ‘I’m Hurtin’
4) ‘Oh, Pretty Woman’
5 ‘It’s Over’
6) ‘Dream Baby’
7) ‘Blue Angel’
8) ‘Love Hurts’
9) ‘Uptown’
10) ‘Mean Woman Blues’
11) ‘Only the Lonely’
12) ‘Running Scared’
13) ‘I Drove All Night’
14) ‘You Got It’
15) ‘A Love So Beautiful’

Marilyn’s romantic song Kill4Me

OHMYGOSSIP — Marilyn Manson’s new song ‘Kill4Me’ is “very romantic”.
The 48-year-old singer is known for penning dark, narcissistic and violent lyrics, but his new record ‘Heaven Upside Down’ sees a softer side to the goth rocker, who asks: “Would you kill for me?” on the synth pop track.
Asked if he intended for it to be a sarcastic pop song, he told NME magazine: “No, I didn’t intend it to be a pop song. Tyler Bates, who is my music partner, is also a sick, f**king dark, twisted f***er.
“He scores films [‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’, ‘John Wick’, ‘Dawn Of The Dead’] and we were trying to find the point in the record where there was going to be a story – that was the point when the story began.
“It’s very romantic – I wrote the lyrics almost as a poem.
“I just simply said, ‘Would you kill for me?’
“It was almost trying to make fun of the fact that I hate songs where people are whining and saying ‘I’d die for you’.
“I don’t like it when people ask questions in songs because they sound like pussies.”
The ‘Beautiful People’ hitmaker said that while many artists are writing about the current political climate and Donald Trump, he doesn’t “care” about that and simply wanted to make his most “fierce” record.
He explained: “I think the whole record’s romantic. In a strange way.
“It’s the most realised. My biggest and most fierce, certainly.
“Everyone likes their new record so I’m not going to sit here and say ‘I love my new record’, but this record is important in the scheme of what needs to happen and not in the ‘I need to save the world’ or ‘I give a s**t about anything other than making fun of the musicians who can’t make this record’ [way], or making my own records in the past feel bad for themselves for not being this record. I had to really outdo myself.”
‘Heaven Upside Down’ is released on October 6.

Ne-Yo debuted 4 new singles at UK gig

OHMYGOSSIP — Ne-Yo debuted four new singles during his gig at London’s O2 Brixton Academy on Wednesday (20.09.17) – and revealed one will feature Bebe Rexha and Stefflon Don.
The 39-year-old songwriter announced during his concert that his new album ‘Good Man’ – his first since 2015’s ‘Non-Fiction’ – is “on the way” and will drop “soon” but wanted to give fans who had bought tickets to see him last night a special treat ahead of the release.
Speaking to the audience, he said: “This is album number seven for me, which means I’m getting old as hell. Since it’s all love in here, we’re gonna try some new music in here. Is that alright? Ok, now check this out, these are new.
“Don’t lie to me, if you ever in your life you felt the need to say: ‘Ne-Yo, that was whack as hell’, now is your time. I ain’t gonna get mad, I ain’t gonna hold it against you, I ain’t gonna cry … in front of you all. I’ll wait till I get back there. New music, if you like it, give me a thumbs up and if you don’t like it, give me a thumbs down. Is that cool? Are you ready?”
He kicked off his set of new songs with ‘On Your Mind’, which mainly received thumbs up from the fans, but the atmosphere in the room peaked when he started belting out the lyrics to ‘Push Back’ and asked three girls from the crowd to get up on stage.
The heartthrob ran his own mini dance contest as he asked the trio to give their best ‘push back’ move individually while he shook his hips provocatively behind them.
‘Push Back’, unsurprisingly, received a unanimous yes from the crowd and he revealed when it drops on the album it will feature the ‘I Got You’ hitmaker and ‘Hurtin’ Me’ singer.
Ne-Yo then broke out into ‘Nights Like These’ before concluding his set of new songs with the lead forthcoming single ‘Good Man’, which he wrote for his wife Crystal Renay.
He said: “This song, I wrote for my beautiful wife, who is standing right over there!”

Zayn Malik: Honesty is key to battling anxiety

OHMYGOSSIP — Zayn Malik says honesty has been the key to combating his anxiety.
The former One Direction star has been candid about his anxiety disorder and how it has impacted his career, but Zayn believes being open about his troubles and having a settled routine have helped him to make progress.
Asked how he’s approached dealing with the problem, Zayn told Us Weekly magazine: “Just being straight up. Just being honest about everything, explaining what it is that makes you feel uncomfortable, what it is that you’re cool with.
“And making sure that all of that is in order and everyone’s got a clear understanding of what that is.”
Meanwhile, the ‘I Don’t Wanna Live Forever’ hitmaker recently promised to tour his second album as he finally thinks the time is right to go on the road.
The 24-year-old star – who has previously cancelled a number of scheduled appearances due to his anxiety – said that his self-confidence has improved markedly over recent months and he now feels in the right frame of mind to tour his new music.
Asked why he didn’t tour his first solo LP, Zayn said: “We did a few auditions for the band, and we got a band together, but I just wasn’t feeling it.
“The first record, I didn’t feel like there was enough material to do a proper show. So I just waved it off until the second album, so I can get the best of both.
“I think my confidence is definitely improved now, so a tour is definitely on the cards. I’m excited to start rehearsing.”

Foo Fighters question Justin Bieber’s tour axe excuse

OHMYGOSSIP — Foo Fighters believe there must have been another reason for Justin Bieber cancelling the rest of his ‘Purpose’ tour.
The ‘Run’ rockers are considered one of the hardest working bands in the music business and even carried on with their shows when frontman Dave Grohl fell off stage and broke his leg in several places in Sweden, in 2015.
The ‘Sorry’ hitmaker cited exhaustion for pulling out of the remaining 14 dates of the tour in July, but Foo Fighters’ guitarist Chris Shiflett says if it was them they would have completed the gigs because they never pull out of shows unless there is a “really good reason”.
The 46-year-old musician told the Daily Star newspaper: “Whatever people say to the press, that is usually something that a publicist has cooked up, and there will be another reason – something behind the scenes.
“I don’t want to be judgmental, but Dave broke his leg and absolutely refused to cancel.
“I hate cancelling shows even when there is a really good reason.
“Sometimes s**t happens, sometimes there’s a family emergency, sometimes someone gets hurt and it still feels sh***y, so you try not to.
“Luckily I’m in a band where everyone feels that.”
Justin’s manager Scooter Braun has said that the 23-year-old hunk will reveal the actual reason for axing the shows when the time is right, but insisted he’s doing well and is not in a “dark place”.
He told ‘CBS This Morning’: “Again people think he’s having issues. What’s going on with him? Seems to be falling in another … dark place. True? Not true?”
“Look, I think he’ll decide to tell people when he’s ready of what exactly happened.
“But I think he was making a decision, like he said, to protect himself.”
Shortly after making the announcement, Justin told his fans – known as Beliebers – that he’s taking some time away so he can work on making his “mind, heart, and soul” “sustainable”.

Brandon Flowers ‘idolises’ Morrissey

OHMYGOSSIP — The Killers’ Brandon Flowers “idolises” Morrissey.
The 36-year-old rocker has admitted he has previously embarrassed himself in front of the former Smiths frontman when he was working as a waiter in a Las Vegas restaurant aged 18, and the memory has haunted him ever since as he’s grown up holding the ‘Bigmouth Strikes Again’ hitmaker in such high regard.
He said: “[I] served him a mushroom pizza and Earl Grey tea, and I totally made an a** of myself [when I told him] ‘Mushrooms are really cool.'”
But the ‘Run For Cover’ singer got the chance to redeem himself years later when the pair met again at the Sunset Marquis hotel in Los Angeles.
He added to Yahoo Music: “I hung out with Morrissey at this hotel. I came in one night at around 11 and everything was kind of shut down, but there was this one little light in the restaurant.
“I grew up just idolising him. I instantly got excited, obviously, and I ended up getting the courage to introduce myself and stay for a few hours out there with the Moz. It was an incredible experience.
“So I don’t know that I redeemed myself completely with this experience with him, but I tried.”
It isn’t the first time Brandon has spoken about his love for the 58-year-old musician either, as he previously admitted he didn’t think he’d be a good frontman as he wasn’t as good as Morrissey.
He said: “It took a long time because I had such reverence for singers. I idolised Morrissey. I know everybody says that but I really, really did.
“So I felt what right do I have to grab a microphone? If you’ve seen ‘Morrissey Live in Dallas’, why would you even attempt to be on a stage? You’re not gonna look that good, you’re not gonna have that admiration from a bunch of people.”
