Harry Styles performs rock version of 1D songs

OHMYGOSSIP — Harry Styles turned One Direction’s ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ into a rock ‘n’ roll number at his San Francisco show on Tuesday night (19.09.17).
The 23-year-old singer performed his band’s first big hit at the opening night of his US headline tour at the Masonic venue in the Californian city, and whilst he attempted to mix up the speed of the song, his fans could be heard over him belting out the “na na na na” part just like the original.
Whilst the majority of Harry’s set was songs from his eponymous titled debut solo album, including ‘Sign of the Times’, ‘Sweet Creature’ and ‘Two Ghosts’, the dark-haired hunk made sure to pay homage to where his career began, also performing 1D’s ‘Stockholm Syndrome’.
Harry didn’t speak much throughout his set, but early on he declared his fans his best friends.
He said: “You are the best friends any person could ever ask for.”
Other than Harry, his band mate Niall Horan has been doing ‘Fool’s Gold’ at his solo shows.
Liam Payne has completely turned his back on the group’s music and recently confessed that hearing ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ is embarrassing as he’s more “mature” these days.
He said: “When the DJ puts on ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ you get a bit shy about it. It’s a different maturity, of course we were very young when we did that.”
Harry, Niall, Liam and Louis Tomlinson went on an indefinite hiatus in March 2015, but have each launched their own solo careers.
‘Carolina’ hitmaker Harry brings his world tour to the UK later this year.
Harry’s 2017 UK tour dates are as follows:
October 29 – London, UK – Eventim Apollo
October 30 – London, UK – Eventim Apollo
November 1 – Manchester, UK – O2 Apollo Manchester
November 2 – Glasgow, UK – SEC Armadillo

Prodigy sign deal with BMG for new album

OHMYGOSSIP — The Prodigy have inked a deal with BMG for their seventh album.
The ‘Firestarter’ hitmakers – Liam Howlett, Keith Flint and Maxim – are thrilled to have joined the label, which is home to artists such as Morrissey and Kylie Minogue, and can’t wait to start work on their follow-up to 2015’s ‘The Day Is My Enemy’, which reached number one in the UK chart.
The electronic trio are poised to release their new record early next year.
Liam said of the deal: “Great guys who totally understand our band … Now let’s make some noise!”
BMG’s UK Executive Vice President of Music, Korda Marshall commented: “The Prodigy are one of those bands who define an entire sound and can justifiably claim to be among the architects of contemporary music.
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to release what will undoubtedly be one of the most important records of 2018.”
For their last record, the threesome hit fans full force with a hard-hitting “violent” release, but Liam said he hadn’t planned on making such a heavy record, but he simply had to express his personal emotions.
At the time, he explained: “I didn’t plan this album to sound violent, it’s just the sound that came out of the studio, a kind of build up over the last 4 years. ‘Anger is an energy’, that’s a lyric which always resonated with me. The tension is buried deep in the music right from the first drop. It’s all about the sound having that sense of danger. That’s what The Prodigy sound is about.”

New Order and Peter Hook dispute ends

OHMYGOSSIP — New Order have reached a “full and final settlement” with former bassist Peter Hook after a long-running legal dispute over royalties.
The 61-year-old musician claimed to be £2.3 million out of pocket after he quit the band he co-founded in 2007, and filed a lawsuit against his former bandmates Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris and Gillian Morris in 2015.
However, on Wednesday (20.09.17), the trio revealed their lawsuit had ended after years of back and forth over various issues involving the New Order and Joy Division band names and how much Hook is paid for using them.
Hook, Sumner and Morris were all members of seminal indie band Joy Division and went on to create New Order in 1980 after lead singer Ian Curtis died of suicide.
In a statement posted on their website, the band wrote: “New Order announce that today, a full and final settlement has been reached in the long running disputes with their former bassist Peter Hook.
“The disputes were based upon Hook’s use of various New Order and Joy Division assets on merchandising and in the promotion of shows by his new band, and the amount of money he receives from the use of the name New Order by his former colleagues since 2011.
“The Joy Division and New Order names mean a great deal to so many of the fans, and the band felt it important to protect the legacy.
“With these issues now dealt with, Bernard, Stephen and Gillian can continue to do what they do best, make music and perform live. (sic)”
The ‘Blue Monday’ hitmakers previously said they were “disappointed” when Hook – who currently tours as Peter Hook And The Light – accused them of setting up a new company without him to handle the band’s income after he left the group.
They said previously: “Obviously the band are disappointed that Peter is pursuing this claim in this particular way.
“The reports so far take a number of things out of context. Peter still, for instance, receives his full share of all back catalogue royalties.
“This dispute relates only to the share of income he takes from our work without him since 2011.
“Not much more we can say as nothing has been decided by the Court on the facts other than he has a right to proceed with the claim, so this matter is still in play.”

The Killers and Rag ‘n’ Bone Man become ‘digital millionaires’

OHMYGOSSIP — The Killers, Rag ‘n’ Bone Man and Little Mix have joined the likes of The Beatles and Queen by becoming “digital millionaires”.
The Official Charts Company has redefined the million sales landmark by introducing streaming numbers for the first time, and the trio are among a selection of artists who are now part of the UK’s exclusive ‘Million Sellers Club’ as a result of the changes.
Their music will be featured on a new album, ‘NOW That’s What I Call a Million’, which will be released on October 13.
Hitting a million sales is a rare milestone; only 169 tracks from some of the greatest musical artists of all time including The Beatles, Sir Elton John and Queen have achieved this marker in terms of pure sales in the 65-year history of the Official Chart.
According to Official Charts Company data, in the last year alone 98 million singles have been sold in the UK and music fans have generated an extraordinary 44 billion streams.
Martin Talbot, Chief Executive, Official Charts Company commented: “For six decades, hitting the million mark has been the landmark achievement for all of the world’s greatest artists – reflecting sales of the biggest hits of each respective era. Today, in an era redefined by streaming, it makes sense to redefine this list and create a new set of ‘millionaires’, spanning the old world and the new.
“We are delighted that Now Music is reflecting this new way of looking at the world through our ‘Now That’s What I Call A Million’ collaboration, featuring many of the greatest tunes of the 21st Century. Demi Lovato ‘inspired’ by Christina Aguilera

OHMYGOSSIP — Demi Lovato’s upcoming album was “inspired” by Christina Aguilera.
The 25-year-old singer has admitted she idolises the ‘Dirty’ hitmaker so much she took a huge amount of inspiration from the star’s 2002 album ‘Stripped’ when it came to making her own upcoming album ‘Tell Me You Love Me’.
She said: “I grew up listening to Christina Aguilera. She was one of my idols growing up. She still is. Her voice is incredible, and in ‘Stripped’ you really got to hear that. I think it was her breakout album that really transformed her into the icon that she is today. So that inspired me … she really inspired this album. I was even inspired by the black and white artwork!”
It wasn’t just Christina, 36, that the ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ hitmaker used as inspiration either, as she also took cues from her own life, claiming she wanted to make a record which “best represented” who she is.
Speaking to People magazine, Demi said: “You know my personal journey. I have been through a lot over the last year-and-a-half. I’ve done a lot of growing and I wanted an album that best represented who I am.
“My sound, I wanted it to be more authentic to who I am, which is more soulful and more R&B. And I wanted people to be able to relate to every song on the album.”
Meanwhile, Demi recently revealed there’s one track on the album that she knows people will talk about, because it’s about a famous person she doesn’t want to name.
She said: “Sometimes you put music that you just feel like everyone is going to know who it’s about.
“Headlines are going to come out of it, and it’s like, when you write a song, you’re just being vulnerable, and you’re just writing about something that’s inspiring you, so all the baggage that comes with it is what I’m kind of nervous about.”
‘Tell Me You Love Me’ will be released on September 29.

Morrissey unveils new single Spent The Day In Bed

OHMYGOSSIP — Morrissey has made a comeback with new single ‘Spent The Day In Bed’.
The former Smiths frontman set tongues wagging when he joined Twitter over the weekend, and on Monday night (18.09.17) he took to the micro-blogging app to tease the track.
Making his debut on the account, which has already amassed over 45,000 followers within a few days, he wrote: “Spent the day in bed… (sic)”
The song is political and questions authority like much of Morrissey’s back catalogue.
On the track, which received its debut on BBC 6 Music on Tuesday morning (19.09.17), he sings: “Stop …Watching the news, because the news contrives to frighten you’, juxtaposing with a final refrain, ‘No Bus, No Boss, No Rain, No Train’.”
The track is from ‘Low in High-School’, the 58-year-old musician’s first studio album since 2014’s ‘World Peace Is None of Your Business’.
The ‘Everyday Is Like Sunday’ hitmaker recently inked a deal with BMG for the record, which is released on November 17.
The signing with BMG also sees them look after the launch of the ‘Kiss Me a Lot’ singer’s own label, Etienne Records.
Before going on a world tour in 2016, Morrissey stated that he couldn’t see the point of playing live unless he had new material to release.
Speaking in 2015, the outspoken songwriter said: “We are obsessively grateful for all interest and loyalty from our audience … throughout 28 years. But without new releases, there is no point in any additional touring.”
Morrissey’s arrival on Twitter also sparked speculation about a Smiths reunion.
The ‘How Soon Is Now’ group – which was also comprised of guitarist Johnny Marr, drummer Mike Joyce and bassist Andy Rourke – broke up in acrimonious circumstances in 1987 and despite being offered massive money to reunite for concerts they’ve never come close to getting back together.
Marr, 53, previously revealed: “I think we were offered $50 million for three … possibly five shows.”
Relations between the band members has been poor since 1989, when Joyce and Rourke successfully sued Morrissey and Marr to get more than 10 per cent of the group’s royalties.
While a reunion is unlikely, fans will be able to get their hands on a remastered version of the iconic British punk band’s seminal 1986 album ‘The Queen Is Dead’ on October 20.
Meanwhile, Morrissey is set to announce tour dates in the coming weeks.
The full track-listing for ‘Low in High-School’ is as follows:
1. ‘My Love I’d Do Anything For You’
2. ‘I Wish You Lonely’
3. ‘Jacky’s Only Happy When She’s Up On The Stage’

5. ‘Spent The Day In Bed’
6. ‘I Bury The Living’
7. ‘In Your Lap’
8. ‘The Girl From Tel-Aviv Who Wouldn’t Kneel’
9. ‘All The Young People Must Fall In Love’
10. ‘When You Open Your Legs’
11. ‘Who Will Protect Us From The Police?’
12. ‘Israel’

The Killers urge fans to be patient with their new line-up

OHMYGOSSIP — The Killers have urged fans to carry on coming to their shows despite the changes to their touring line-up.
Brandon Flowers and co have vowed to give their fans the same live experience, despite guitarist Dave Keuning and bass player Mark Stoermer – who quit in 2016 – quitting touring for personal reasons, leaving just Brandon and drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. as the only original members left in the group.
Brandon, 36, said: “There was no real perfect way to handle it.
“I hope that people come to the gigs and aren’t let down because a lot of heart is still going into these shows and a lot of blood, sweat and tears went into this album.”
And Ronnie, 41, says despite going on a five-year hiatus after 2012 album ‘Battle Born’, they still have a strong work ethic and won’t be calling it a day anytime soon.
He added to the Daily Star newspaper: “The well has not run dry.
“Five years is a long time between albums, I look at the work other bands put out, maybe we haven’t done enough.
“There’s more to come because I wouldn’t be happy is this was it, but it’s hard to get four people on schedule.”
Dave announced he was taking a break from being on the road last month.
The 41-year-old musician – who has one child, 12-year-old son Kyler – decided to step down from the ‘Run For Cover’ group’s forthcoming shows to spend more time with his family, a decision fully supported by the rest of the band.
Brandon reassured fans at the time that they will not be performing as a two-piece, and that long-term touring members Jake Blanton and Ted Sablay will replace Dave and bassist Mark, respectively.
In a statement on Twitter, they said: “Despite conjecture, The Killers are the same four weirdos we’ve always been.
“And worry not, we will not be performing as a two piece. As our fans have seen, the live line-up has grown over the years. Both Ted and Jake have been in the mix for a very long time (since Sam’s Town and Battle Born). Hell, we even have 3 background singers now!
“As Dave announced to Q Magazine, he will be taking a break from touring to spend time with his family. We respect his decision, just as we respected Mark’s decision to go back to college. (sic)”
The Killers release their new LP ‘Wonderful Wonderful’ on September 22.

The Formula One racing star has previously spoken of love of music and his good pal Naughty Boy has now revealed Lewis has been busy in the studio with the Grammy Award winner.
Naughty Boy said: “I’ve heard people talking about Lewis’s music and apparently he is quite good. I would love to hear his stuff. I know he writes it.
“There has been a lot of talk on what he’s been up to and I know he’s been writing music with Frank Ocean. I think that’ll come out at some point.”
And although Lewis is currently in the midst of fighting for the Formula One title, Naughty Boy admitted the Brit already has one eye on his post-racing career.
He told The Sun newspaper: “Obviously, he’s busy racing but music is definitely one of his passions too.”
The 32-year-old DJ also revealed he’s keen to provide Lewis with tracks for his music.
He said: “Do you know what he’s been asking me for? Beats. He said in an interview on a Formula One show he wanted to work with me.
“I need to actually hit him up and give him some beats.”
Lewis, 32, is already one of the top-earning sports stars in the world.
But he previously suggested that as soon as he retires from motor sport, he will turn his focus towards music.

Marilyn Manson: Rihanna is ‘hardcore’

OHMYGOSSIP — Marilyn Manson has praised Rihanna as “dangerous” and “hardcore”.
The 48-year-old rocker – real name Brian Warner – is known for his controversial stage personality, but even he is impressed by the singer’s attitude, and said he was inspired by her music video for hit single ‘B***h Better Have My Money’ when it came to making the video for his own single ‘We Know Where You F***ing Live’.
He said: “Rihanna [is] dangerous. I had this conversation with [director] Tom Wyatt, prior to this video coming out. He said, ‘who do you want to compete with like in music and things like that?’ I said, ‘Rihanna.’ [Rihanna’s] ‘B***h Better Have My Money’ video? That’s a hardcore video.”
The ‘Beautiful People’ hitmaker then praised “all” of the 29-year-old beauty’s videos for being just as “hardcore”, and doesn’t understand why his video is deemed more offensive simply because he’s making a different style of music.
He added: “All of her videos are. I love that video the most because A, it’s hardcore, B, because it puts a b***h having her money type, and C, because Mads Mikkelsen of Hannibal the TV show, my favourite show, is in it. And then, D, if I’m still doing letters; that she swings a girl naked back and forth, gives her crack, kills her and has a yacht, she has a flare gun. And somehow my video is more offensive?”
It isn’t just Rihanna that Marilyn has high praise for either, as he’s also a fan of rapper Lil Uzi Vert.
Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1 Radio, Marilyn said: “He reminded me so much of me when I started … Just his attitude, not careless, but very specifically f**k you for this reason. It’s not just f**k you all, it’s f**k you for this reason.”

Sting, Elvis Costello and more for Leonard Cohen tribute

OHMYGOSSIP — Sting, Elvis Costello and Lana Del Rey are among those set to perform at a Leonard Cohen tribute concert in Montreal, Canada.
The ‘Hallelujah’ singer sadly passed away on November 7, 2016 at the age of 82, and to mark the one-year anniversary of his death, a whole host of stars are coming together in Leonard’s hometown.
Feist, the Lumineers’ Wesley Schultz, Jeremiah Fraites, k.d. lang, Damien Rice, Patrick Watson and Cohen’s son Adam are all part of the ‘Tower of Song: A Memorial Tribute’, which will take place at the Bell Center on November 7.
Adam says one of his father’s last wishes was to have some kind of memorial in his honour.
He said: “My father left me with a list of instructions before he passed: ‘Put me in a pine box next to my mother and father.
“Have a small memorial for close friends and family in Los Angeles … and if you want a public event, do it in Montreal.
“I see this concert as a fulfilment of my duties to my father that we gather in Montreal to ring the bells that still can ring.”
As well as musical performances, there are also plans in place for recitals of Cohen’s iconic poems by a group of actors who are yet to be announced.
The event is being overseen by Hal Willner – who has previously produced a live tribute for the late Lou Reed, among others – and will raise money for the Canada Council for the Arts, the Council of Arts and Letters of Quebec and the Montreal Arts Council.
Willner said: “Leonard Cohen is a literary and musical icon of word-craft.
“On the first anniversary of his passing, we will endeavour to present a tribute to an artist who is universally acknowledged as one of the great poets and songwriters of all time.”
More artists are to be announced in the coming weeks.

Beverley Knight’s new trio Leading Ladies

OHMYGOSSIP — Beverley Knight and West End stars Amber Riley and Cassidy Janson have formed the Leading Ladies.
The trio have teamed up for a new album called ‘Songs From The Stage’, which features the music from shows such as ‘Cats’, ‘Rent’, ‘Memphis’ and ‘The Bodyguard’, the latter which saw Beverley nominated for Best Takeover in a Role at the Whatsonstage.com Awards in 2013.
The girls coming together is the result of the 44-year-old star making the most of life after she underwent treatment for Uterine Fibroids, an “aggression” benign tumour that is more prevalent in women of Afro-Caribbean descent.
Beverley said: “I never thought I’d be that person to have some big, life-changing operation. Then I became that person.
“You get one shot, so suddenly you’re thinking of opportunities.
“Since the op, I’m just like, ‘Bring it!’ Whatever the universe puts in my lap, I’m ready. And this has been a phenomenal thing to put in my lap.”
The ‘Come As You Are’ hitmaker – who has released eight solo studio albums – has set her sights on chart domination with the record, as she believes fans are more likely to purchase a CD rather than stream the collection of songs.
She told The Sun newspaper: “People consuming Taylor Swift and Sam Smith there’ll be a lot of streaming.
“People who buy the Leading Ladies will probably want a CD.
“So I reckon we’re in with a shot because it’s looking bloody good.”
Beverley hopes she and the girls can bag a huge tour in support of the album and follow in the footsteps of Alfie Boe and Michael Ball, who have been on a joint tour performing the biggest hits from musicals.
She said: “To do a whole hour and a half representing the album would be glorious.”
‘Songs From The Stage’ is released on November 17 via East West Records.
The tracklisting for ‘Songs From The Stage’ is as follows:
Songs From The Stage” tracklisting

Jools Holland teams up with José Feliciano for new LP

OHMYGOSSIP — Jools Holland has joined forces with Latin legend José Feliciano for new LP ‘As You See Me Now’.
The 59-year-old pianist and composer is thrilled that he was able to work with his idol on the record, comprised of classic covers, which he says has a “unique sound”.
Jools said of José: “One of my greatest musical heroes musically for years and years … you put something in front of him and he just makes it sound better.
“When I first heard his music, it had the same effect on me as Ray Charles, The Beatles and Motown.
“Hearing José sing and play was like an arrow straight to my heart. The album has turned out extraordinary, it’s a unique sound.”
And it seems the 72-year-old Puerto Rican star is as much a fan of Jools as he is of him.
José said: “We’ve become brothers, and for as long as I live I’ll never forget this moment, whether I do another record with him or whether I go on his TV show.
“The reason we work so well together is because his style of piano is my way of guitar playing. There’s no music we can’t play.”
The album features the title track ‘As You See Me Now’, which was written by the ‘Later… with Jools Holland’ host and sung by José.
Jools has complimented José for making the track sound like his own.
He said: “It comes to life and it sounds like it’s his.
