Sam Smith to get own BBC show

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Smith is “honoured” to star in an hour-long entertainment show.
The ‘Like I Can’ hitmaker will star in the one-off programme, titled ‘Sam Smith At The BBC, where he will perform some of his most famous tracks as well as material off his new album. Sam will also sit down with the show’s host Fearne Cotton to talk about his life and career so far.
He said: “I’m so honoured and thankful to the BBC for giving me this opportunity to showcase some of my new music from my album in this amazing, intimate setting. I can’t wait to sing some old songs and have a big old sing along with everyone.”
Whilst Fearne added: “As I’ve adored Sam’s voice since he performed on Radio 1’s Live Lounge in 2015, I jumped at the chance to present this show.
“I can’t wait to see him again, watch him perform new and old tracks and chat to him about his music and life.”
‘Sam Smith At The BBC’ follows the success of past shows – ‘Adele At The BBC’ and ‘Michael Bublé At The BBC’. ‘Harry Styles At The BBC’ is also set to be broadcast in November on BBC One.
Guy Freeman, Editor, Special Events and Formats, BBC Studios, said: “I’m delighted that Sam is the next superstar in this series. These shows create a world in which artists like Sam feel incredibly comfortable and can simply have fun and reveal more of themselves to viewers than is ever normally possible. It promises to be a great hour in the company of an outstanding performer.”
Sam, 25, has had a glittering career to date, bursting onto the music scene in October 2012, when he sang on Disclosure’s breakthrough track ‘Latch’ before going on to release his debut studio album ‘In the Lonely Hour’.
Following on from those successes, Sam was nominated for six Grammy Awards in 2015, winning four of them including a gong for Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album. He also secured two BRIT Awards – British Breakthrough Act and Global Success – as well as three Billboard Awards: Top Male Artist, Top New Artist, and Top Radio Songs Artist. He teamed up with Jimmy Napes to pen ‘Writing’s on the Wall’, the theme tune for Bond film ‘Spectre’, which earned him a Golden Globe and Academy Award. And last month, Sam made a spectacular comeback to music with his track ‘Too Good at Goodbyes’, which debuted at number one in the United Kingdom.

Rap ‘n’ roll star Noel Gallagher

OHMYGOSSIP — Noel Gallagher was inspired by Kanye West on his new album.
The 50-year-old rock legend has revealed how ‘Fort Knox’, the opening track on the upcoming Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds album ‘Who Built The Moon?’, is influenced by Kanye’s track ‘Fade’.
Noel had played his producer David Holmes the hip hop song – the final single from Kanye’s album ‘The Life of Pablo’ as an example of the type of music he’d been listening to.
Once the pair had completed psychedelic track ‘Fort Knox’ the pair considered sending it to Kanye but Noel ultimately decided to keep it for himself.
According to ET Canada, Noel made the revelation whilst speaking at a playback of his upcoming LP at Capitol Records studios in Los Angeles, saying: “I just realised it was too f***ing good, so I kept it.”
‘Fade’ features Kanye, Post Malone and Ty Dolla Sign and contains samples of several different songs including Chicago House classic ‘Mystery of Love’ by Mr. Fingers, ‘Deep Inside’ by Hardrive, ‘I Get Lifted’ by Barbara Tucker and ‘(I Know) I’m Losing You’ by Undisputed Truth.
David recently revealed the new album will “surprise” people with the producer – who is famous for his soundtrack work on movies such as ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ and most recently ‘Logan Lucky’ – getting Noel to work in a new way from what he had ever done as part of Oasis or as a solo artist.
He teased: “People are going to be surprised. I think people love Noel and they’re desperate for him to make a really big, bold, up-tempo beast of a record – a lot of Noel’s music is quite mid-tempo. This one is fun.”
Giving his fans an insight into the creative process, Noel previously said: “I am writing in the studio for the first time. I’ve not allowed myself to go in with any completed songs, so I am writing in there, it’s happening all around me … It’s a bit chaotic but the end results are great so far.”
‘Who Built the Moon?’ will be released on November 24, 2017.

Paul Weller not pressured by music sales anymore

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Weller doesn’t feel “pressured” to release hit music.
The 59-year-old star feels “comfortable” in what he does and isn’t too worried whether his music is received well or not by his critics, as long as his fans like it.
He said: “Mainly it’s just the feeling of mortality. I don’t know, maybe the older you get you think, ‘F**k’. You know, you look around and someone says, ’25 years ago this record was out’ or, ‘It’s 40 years you’ve been making records’. And you’re just like, wow, it goes by so quickly. So I think there’s an element of that: I’ve just got to do as much as I can. Time’s running out. And time goes so quickly. I’ve got to keep writing and keep trying to produce work.
“But then I think also in lots of ways the pressure is kind off really. I mean, apart from my own self-competitiveness, I’m not trying to compete with a market, you know. I’m not in competition with other artists. I suppose, because I’ve been doing it for such a long time, you kind of feel comfortable, this is what I do. And people either dig it, or not dig it. And that’s fine. I think there’s a pressure that gets taken off.
“I think without that pressure, it becomes a lot more enjoyable and there’s more room to experiment and go places, whatever comes to me really. Whatever I sort of think it could be or want to try. Who knows what will happen in the future, but I think I’ve kind of earned the right to be able to do that. And I feel that’s quite a fortunate position really.”
And the ‘Going Underground’ singer doesn’t get “hung up” about what is selling anymore.
He told Gothamist: “I think probably just the feedback from people really. That’s mainly through playing the songs live. But also, if people are lucky enough to hear it on radio, or hear the records, people will come up to me in the street or social media and just say how much they like the record.
“So, I don’t get quite as hung up about what is selling or not. Because them days are gone. So I think it’s more just the general reaction from people.”

Steven Tyler downplays health fears after cancelling tour dates

OHMYGOSSIP — Steven Tyler is devastated to have had to cancel Aerosmith’s four remaining shows on their South American tour.
The 69-year-old rock star called an abrupt halt to the iconic band’s tour in September due to an unspecified health concern, but Steven has now downplayed the seriousness of his problems and admitted to being heartbroken at having failed to complete their scheduled dates.
Writing on the band’s official website, he explained: “I give you all an A+ for creative speculations but I certainly did not have a heart attack or a seizure (unless Joe Perry is takin’ a rippin’ lead).
“Sorry to have cut the tour short but I had to have a procedure that only my doc in the States could perform. (sic)”
Steven said the band were relishing their time on tour, and admitted he regrets having to cancel their shows due to his health concerns.
The music icon explained: “It breaks my heart to have left this tour early. The band has never played better. Just watch the 100,000 people at Rock in Rio.
“We’ve been to Tel Aviv … to Russia… to Rio … and all the in between … I guess it’s true what they say, ‘That life’s a p***er when eu’re a peein’. (sic)”
Steven also issued a statement when the band cancelled their tour dates, but at the time, the star was noticeably vague about the precise nature of his health troubles.
He previously said: “I am not in a life threatening condition, but I need to deal with this right away, and get some rest and medical care immediately in order to sustain and maintain my future performances … I promise I’ll be back. (sic)”

Ezra Koenig ‘smoked weed and made cartoons’ in prep for new album

OHMYGOSSIP — The Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig had to go away and “smoke weed and make cartoons” before he was ready to pen the band’s upcoming fourth album.
The indie rockers haven’t released any new material since 2013’s Grammy-award winning effort ‘Modern Vampires of the City’, but the 33-year-old singer-songwriter has admitted it was vital he went away for a bit so he could come back “fresh.”
Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, he said: “After this period of smoking weed and making cartoons, I came back fresh. Back to chapter four, feeling renewed.
“I don’t want to say too much about the sound, but this is the first album I’ll be making in my thirties, and when a band gets to their fourth album, it’s a lot like hitting your thirties and figuring out how to dress: You might love seeing the newest sweatshirt collabs from some brands you like, but at some point you pull it over your head and look in the mirror, like, ‘Hm. This doesn’t make sense anymore.’ ”
But it wasn’t just his downtime that helped him put the album together, as Ezra has admitted working with Kanye West has given him a whole new perspective.
He explained: “I had this experience where I was in the studio with Kanye in Mexico. It was so different than anything I’d done: One day [Dirty Projectors frontman] Dave Longstreth is there; the next day Big Sean shows up. Sometimes it wasn’t people working, just talking about music. I was, like, ‘I like this atmosphere. I need to loosen up.’ So I’ve been working with this 68-year-old guitarist, Greg Leisz, and this 18-year-old guitarist, Steve Lacy. A bunch of other people have been coming in and out. Now we’re moving into the final stage where it’s about, ‘How do you take all that energy and reduce it to the sound of the album?’ It’s tricky.”
The album has the working title ‘Mitsubishi Macchiato’ and is “80 per cent” done.

The ‘Loyalty’ hitmaker will kick off the European leg of his ‘The DAMN Tour’ in Dublin, Ireland, on February 7, 2018, before heading to Birmingham and Manchester, followed by a trip to Scotland to perform at Glasgow’s SSH Hydro.
The 30-year-old star will complete his run of UK dates, in support of his ‘DAMN’ album, with a pair of London shows at The O2 Arena on February 12 and 13, where he will be joined by James Blake, before heading to Germany.
The ‘DNA’ rapper previously revealed his first concert as a customer was his own gig in 2006 because he was so poor growing up he never got the chance to go to any shows, so he decided to become a musician to witness what it’s like for an audience and a performer.
He said: “When I went on tour with The Game [and Jay Rock, in 2006] – that was my first show.
“That s**t cost money. Gas money. Me being onstage is me fulfilling two different things – performing and getting to enjoy it like the people enjoying it.”
Kendrick’s fourth studio album ‘DAMN’ topped the charts in the US with more than 400 million streams after he dropped the record in April, and he recently revealed it can be played backwards.
He said: “I think like a week after the album came out, [fans] realised you can play the album backwards.
“It plays as a full story and even a better rhythm. It’s one of my favourite rhythms and tempos within the album. It’s something that we definitely premeditate while we’re in the studio.”
Tickets for the UK and Ireland dates go on sale this Friday (06.10.17).

Marilyn Manson axes 9 shows after stage incident

OHMYGOSSIP — Marilyn Manson has axed his next nine shows after he was crushed by a stage prop, leaving him hospitalised.
The 48-year-old rocker has pulled the plug on the gigs, part of his ‘Heaven Upside Down Tour’, after part of his staging set up, in the shape of two large guns, fell on top of him while he was performing his hit single ‘Sweet Dreams’ at the Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City on Saturday (30.09.17).
His rep said in a statement: “Marilyn Manson is being forced to cancel several of his October dates on his forthcoming US tour.
“On Saturday night, the legendary performer suffered an injury on stage towards the end of his set at NYC’s Hammerstein Ballroom causing him to cut the show short. He was treated for the injury at a local hospital and will be recuperating at home in Los Angeles.”
The ‘Beautiful People’ hitmaker was due to play at Boston’s House of Blues tonight (02.10.17) but has had to cancel the performance.
Marilyn’s rep added: “The shows from Boston, October 2 through Houston, October 14 will be rescheduled for a later date. Manson hopes to return to the stage soon, more details on upcoming shows to follow.”
The star’s next scheduled gig after October 14 is at Tulsa’s Brady Theater on October 17.
Marilyn was an hour into his New York show when he was struck by the stage prop.
It took several minutes for emergency workers to free him from underneath the structure before putting him on a stretcher and taking him to hospital.

Pussycat Dolls to reunite

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicole Scherzinger is to reunite with the Pussycat Dolls.
The ‘Poison’ hitmaker will reportedly take part in a comeback tour with former bandmates Kimberly Wyatt, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta, and Melody Thornton next year, several years after they split in 2009.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Talk of the girls getting back together has been rife for a few years now and they have finally found a time which works for them all.
“They are still deciding whether it will involve a full tour or just a handful of performances but they are excited to be getting out there together again…
“When they parted ways in 2009 it was only intended to be a hiatus, so it feels like the right thing to do.”
And the ‘Don’t Cha’ hitmakers are even planning to head back into the recording studio so they have new material to share with fans.
The insider added: “The girls feel the time is right to let bygones be bygones and put any differences they had behind them and celebrate the great songs they made.
“As well as their old tunes, they are hoping to treat fans with new music, too.
Former member Carmit Bachar – who quit the group in 2008 before the release of their secon album – previously claimed Nicole had dominated the band, ruining the dynamic between them, and insisted the ‘X Factor’ judge couldn’t be part of a full reunion.
She said in 2012: “A Pussycat Dolls reunion isn’t out of the question. Five of us — and not Nicole — could happen. But all six? Never. Too much water under the bridge.”
And Ashley also previously admitted the focus of the group was always on Nicole.
She said: “Even in the group, I wasn’t allowed to talk, we were told to be quiet. Only Nicole was allowed to talk. We would occasionally pitch in.
“Why do you think the band broke up? U2 are still together and they split everything down the middle.”

Justin Bieber decided to release Spanish version of Despacito

OHMYGOSSIP — Justin Bieber decided to release ‘Despacito’ in Spanish.
The hit track became the first song that was primarily in Spanish to top the Billboard Hot 100 since a 1996 remix of ‘Macarena’ and now Luis Fonsi – who sings on the track alongside the ‘As Long As You Love Me’ hitmaker – has revealed it was Justin’s decision to use the Spanish version rather than an English one they had recorded.
He said: “The funny thing is we actually have a version of the song fully recorded in English, and he knew that. Instead of using that, he decided to use the Spanish version, even though he doesn’t speak Spanish himself and made sure he was phonetically pronouncing the words correctly.”
And Luis is understandably thrilled by the success of ‘Despacito’ and thinks it is great news for all genres of music.
He told #legend magazine: “With all the new platforms for people to find music and streaming services, fans are exposed to all kinds of music. And I think, with that available, it’s all so much more accessible. This is something that’s great for every genre, not just Latin music. Now we can pick and choose what we want to hear and make our playlists.”
It comes after Luis revealed he originally wanted Jay-Z or Drake to rap on ‘Despacito’.
He confessed: “Before Justin we’d been talking about doing a collaboration with an American artist. We were leaning towards a more hip-hop artist, but I didn’t know how to get in touch with JAY-Z or Drake. Justin wasn’t even on the list.”
And the 39-year-old singer songwriter had no idea Justin would sing in Spanish but was blown away when he heard him.
He said: “I expected to hear a full English [language] version of the song. All of a sudden I’m hearing Justin Bieber singing in Spanish. I thought, ‘This is huge!'”

Carrie Underwood joins Country Rising benefit concert

OHMYGOSSIP — Carrie Underwood has joined the line-up of stars performing at the ‘Country Rising’ benefit concert.
The 34-year-old singer will take to the stage in Nashville, Tennessee, on November 12 to help raise money for those affected by recent hurricanes which have devastated Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean Islands in recent weeks.
Carrie will be joined by an all-star line up of fellow country stars, including George Strait, Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire, Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Sam Hunt, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Martina McBride and Chris Stapleton.
The concert will benefit the Country Rising Fund of the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, which was set up in aid of all those affected by the four destructive natural disasters – named Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Jose, and Maria – which left millions stranded and without power.
Tickets for the concert – which is being held at Bridgestone Arena – will go on sale Friday, October 6.
The country concert follows the success of the star studded telethon ‘Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Relief’, which raised $15 million for disaster relief efforts following Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma last month.
Stars including George Clooney, Justin Bieber, Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, Lupita Nyong’o, and Oprah Winfrey were among the big names who appeared in the one-hour event, which was broadcast on the major US TV networks from New York, Los Angeles, Nashville and San Antonio.
Stevie Wonder opened the telethon with a performance of his hit ‘Lean on Me’ and several stars told emotional stories about those affected by the disasters.
George and Julie recalled one true tale about a guy who kept up his sons’ spirits by playing the piano while the storm was hitting.
Usher, Demi Lovato, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, George Strait, Chris Stapleton and Darius Rucker also performed at the event.

Dizzee Rascal enjoyed positive album

OHMYGOSSIP — Dizzee Rascal stands by his decision to make “happy, positive music” instead of music “for the streets”.
The ‘Bonkers’ hitmaker faced criticism from fans of his edgy grime sound when he released his 2009 record ‘Tongue N’ Cheek’ but he insists working on the album with the likes of Calvin Harris was a lot of fun and a huge achievement.
He said: “I chose to make happy, positive music and I stand by that. I could make music for the streets.
“I’d done three albums of that. Now I was in people’s living rooms with music that was friendly and they could relate to.
“‘Dance Wiv Me’. Who doesn’t understand that? ‘Holiday’. Whjo doesn’t want a holiday? ‘Bonkers’. Alright, take that how you like but it’s still my biggest song to perform.
“Those songs mean as much to me as (2003 debut) ‘Boy in da Corner’ did.
“If I’m honest, that was a much happier time. I love that people play ‘Holiday’ at their weddings.
“Why not? That’s as big an achievement as anything -to make music that anyone could enjoy.”
And Dizzee is proud to have stood by his musical aspirations when he parted ways with his record label, XL, in 2008 and returned to his own Dirtee Stank label.
He said: “Basically I bet on myself. When I was fully independent, that’s when I won a Brit Award and sold millions of records, so it worked out.”
The 33-year-old musician’s latest album, ‘Raskit’, has a more serious tone, which he felt was appropriate in the current social and political climate.
He said: “It would have been foolish for me to talk about holidays. ‘Come on everybody, we’re going on a speedboat.’ Nah. But I didn’t have to be sitting on a council estate to write it.”

Gary Numan wants superstar daughters

OHMYGOSSIP — Gary Numan would be “very happy” if his children followed in his footsteps.
The ‘Cars’ hitmaker’s three daughters, Raven, 14, Persia, 11, and 10-year-old Echo – who he has with wife Gemma – are already showing signs of musical talent and he’s been allowing them to get involved with his work in small ways, such as appearing in the video to his 2013 track ‘Love Hurt Bleed’, in order to prepare them for the future.
He said: “In the future, I’d like Persia to do whatever makes her happy. That’s top of my list. And a close second; I’d like her to become a big star.
“Raven is already a great singer and songwriter and Echo is a really good keyboard player.
“If my daughters all want to go into the music business, I’ll be very happy.
“I’m letting them get involved in my work projects because it’s good fun, it gets them to do things most other kids don’t, it gets them used to being around cameras and it broadens their interest.
“So if they do go into it in the future, this should be a good foundation.”
And Gary was very impressed when Persia recently lent her vocals to his single ‘My Name Is Ruin’, as well as appearing in the video, because her performance was effortless.
He told Britain’s HELLO! magazine: “Persia is very young yet she completed the vocals perfectly within 30 minutes.
“She’s been out in the desert to make a proper video, which is now shown on TV, and she joined me on stage at recent shows to do that song, never having performed in front of anything like that amount of people.”
The 59-year-old singer is very proud that all three of his daughters are big fans of his music.
He said: “Luckily they are lovely about it and that’s important to me
“They all like other artists too. Ask them who their favourite singer is and they’ll say, ‘Dad, then Ariana Grande’ or vice versa.
“I’m always in their top three – that may be just because I’m their dad but when they’re at my gigs they dance around. I’d hate it if they didn’t like my music and thought of me as embarrassing.”

Marilyn Manson hospitalised after on stage injury

OHMYGOSSIP — Marilyn Manson has been hospitalised after being crushed by a piece of his staging whilst performing in New York.
The 48-year-old rocker was performing his hit single ‘Sweet Dreams’ at the Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City on Saturday (30.09.17) when part of his staging – in the shape of two large guns – fell on top of him, bringing the show to a halt.
According to TMZ.com, Marilyn – whose real name is Brian Warner – was an hour into his show when the incident happened, and it took several minutes for emergency workers to free him from underneath the structure, before putting him on a stretcher and taking him to hospital.
As of the time of writing, Marilyn’s injuries are unknown, but the rest of the show was cancelled so the star could be treated in hospital.
Meanwhile, ‘The Beautiful People’ singer recently praised fellow musician Rihanna for her “hardcore” attitude, said he was inspired by her music video for hit single ‘B***h Better Have My Money’ when it came to making the video for his own single ‘We Know Where You F***ing Live’.
He said: “Rihanna [is] dangerous. I had this conversation with [director] Tom Wyatt, prior to this video coming out. He said, ‘who do you want to compete with like in music and things like that?’ I said, ‘Rihanna.’ [Rihanna’s] ‘B***h Better Have My Money’ video? That’s a hardcore video.”
Marilyn then added that “all” of the 29-year-old beauty’s videos for being just as “hardcore”.
He continued: “All of her videos are. I love that video the most because A, it’s hardcore, B, because it puts a b***h having her money type, and C, because Mads Mikkelsen of Hannibal the TV show, my favourite show, is in it. And then, D, if I’m still doing letters; that she swings a girl naked back and forth, gives her crack, kills her and has a yacht, she has a flare gun.”

Harry Styles’ One Direction tribute

OHMYGOSSIP — Harry Styles wanted to pay tribute to his One Direction past during his debut solo tour.
The 23-year-old singer has included new versions of the band’s debut single ‘What Makes You Beautiful’, along with album track ‘Stockholm Syndrome’, on his setlist and his music director and producer Tom Hull, who is known as Kid Harpoon, revealed it was important to Harry to acknowledge 1D in his performances.
He told Rolling Stone: “At first, he was definitely cautiously up for it. I feel like those [One Direction] songs are brilliantly written songs, and obviously it was a moment where we had a conversation. Beyoncé does Destiny’s Child songs, so we were like ‘Let’s do some of the songs that people will all know and everyone will love.’
“We all have so much respect for what put him here. It’s an important part of it. You can’t underestimate his fans.”
And Hull admitted that being able to draw on Harry’s previous music has also been helpful as there are only 10 songs on his first solo album, ‘Harry Styles’.
He explained: “When the Strokes first came out, their album was 35 minutes long and they had to do Talking Heads songs to fill out the set. It’s quite good to be able to do [Harry’s] record and have other songs in the set because he’s written so much music with [and outside of] One Direction. We’re presenting it in a way that sort of reflects the record and where he’s at now, which feels unique to Harry.”
However, despite his love for One Direction, Harry has been enjoying the chance to explore his own music tastes as a solo artist.
Hull added: “That was the hard thing, I think, in [One Direction] before. You’ve got a bunch of lads who all have different tastes in music and have their own personalities. Obviously it’s clear they’ve all done something different [as solo artists].”

Demi Lovato gushes over Lil Wayne collaboration

OHMYGOSSIP — Demi Lovato says working with Lil Wayne was a dream come true.
The rapper features on the track ‘Lonely’ on Demi’s sixth studio album, ‘Tell Me You Love Me’, and she cannot believe she got the opportunity to collaborate with him.
According to Billboard, she told fans at a private album launch earlier this week: “I’ve always wanted to collaborate with him! My album was Lil Wayne on it, and the inner-hip-hop wannabe star that I am is freaking out. My inner-rapper is going crazy.”
Going into detail about the song, she added: “‘Lonely’ is about the times in our lives when we’ve felt overwhelmingly lonely in a relationship. You know the person you yearn for is toxic, but you’re still desperately trying to get their attention.”
Demi also revealed that her record is her most personal album yet and was inspired by upheaval in her person life.
She said: “What inspired me to be so open on this album was, I don’t know, I’ve kind of been through a lot over this past year and a half since I released my last album. Or two years, and I wanted to be honest because my fans deserve that.”
And she spoke about having romantic feelings for a close friend, which she explores in new track ‘Ruin The Friendship’.
She said: “This is a song about wanting to get out of the friend zone with someone you have a close friendship with. This song is sexy, fun and a little scandalous. A lot of us have experienced this at some point in our lives, whether it’s a close colleague you want to hook up with or a best friend you grew up with. This song is about wanting to take that next step in unchartered territories.”
