Zayn Malik against Ed Sheeran for BMI Song of the Year

OHMYGOSSIP — Zayn Malik is to battle it out with Ed Sheeran and James Bay for the Song of the Year prize at the BMI London Awards.
The nominees for the prestigious accolade have been announced ahead of the ceremony taking place at The Dorchester hotel in London on October 9.
Zayn is in the running for ‘Pillowtalk’, Bay for ‘Let It Go’ and Ed has been nominated for penning Justin Bieber’s ‘Love Yourself’.
The trio also face competition from DJ Paleface & Kyla for their contributions to ‘One Dance’ by Drake and Alexander Palmer, who write ‘Somewhere On A Beach’ performed by Dierks Bentley.
The Song of the Year prize is given to the UK or European songwriter responsible for creating the most performed track on US radio and TV of the past 12 months from the BMI catalog.
For the last two years the award has been taken home by British songwriters; Sam Smith claimed it in 2015 for mega-hit ‘Stay With Me’ and last year Ed was recognised for global smash ‘Thinking Out Loud’.
Whoever takes home the main prize, each of the five nominees will receive a BMI London Pop Award on the night.
‘Pillowtalk’ was the debut solo single by the former One Direction member, written and performed by Zayn and it went straight in at number one in the US Billboard Hot 100 chart
Ed’s ‘Love Yourself’ was recorded by Justin and was produced and co-written by Benny Blanco and Bieber, and it reached number one in eight countries including the UK and the US and went on to spend an incredible 24 non-consecutive weeks in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100.
Bay’s ‘Let It Go’ is the self-penned lead single from the rocker’s EP of the same name and it debuted in the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Kyla and DJ Paleface’s ‘One Dance’ – which samples their 90s dancehall track ‘Do You Mind’ – was a huge worldwide hit for Drake and in 2016 it spent a total of 10 non-consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and accumulated over one billion individual streams, making the track one of the best-selling singles of all time.
‘Somewhere On A Beach’, performed by by Dierks Bentley, was written by German songwriter and producer Palmer and the song peaked at the top of the Hot Country Songs and Billboard Country Airplay chart in the US, granting Alexander his first number one country song.

Bruce Springsteen dedicates concert to Tom Petty

OHMYGOSSIP — Bruce Springsteen paid tribute to the late Tom Petty as he opened his run of Broadway shows on Tuesday night (04.10.17).
The ‘Born to Run’ singer joined people around the world in paying his respects to the legendary rocker, who tragically died on Monday (02.10.17) aged 66 after having his life support turned off following a cardiac arrest.
Springsteen – who will be performing for 18 weeks at New York City’s Walter Kerr Theater – opened his ‘Springsteen on Broadway’ preview show on Tuesday night ( 03.10.17) by dedicating the concert to his fallen friend
Writing on Twitter ahead of the performance, ‘The Boss’ – famous for playing with The E Street Band – remembered Petty by posting: “Down here on E Street, we’re devastated and heartbroken over the death of Tom Petty. Our hearts go out to his family and bandmates.
“I’ve always felt a deep kinship with his music. A great songwriter and performer. Whenever we saw each other … it was like running into a long lost brother. Our world will be a sadder place without him.”
Springsteen, 68, played 13 tracks, opening with ‘Growin’ Up’ and ‘My Hometown’, and highlights included ‘Born in the U.S.A’., ‘Dancing in the Dark’ and closing number ‘Born to Run’.
Since Petty died a host of musical artists have used their live shows to remember the ‘I Want Back Down’ hitmaker.
Coldplay performed in Portland, Oregon, on the night of his passing, and frontman Chris Martin brought R.E.M guitarist Peter Buck on stage as they played a rendition of ‘Free Fallin”.
Imagine Dragons shared a more low key cover as they recorded ‘I Won’t Back Down’ on acoustic guitars in their dressing room before a Mountain View, California show.
The National and Wilco also remembered Petty, performing ‘Damaged By Love’ and ‘The Waiting’ respectively live.
Petty found fame in 1976 when he and his band the Heartbreakers dropped hits ‘Don’t Do Me Like That’ and ‘Here Comes My Girl’.
He also spent time in the supergroup The Traveling Wilburys – also comprised of Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, George Harrison and Jeff Lynne – in the 1980s.
He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

Steve Aoki teases Bella Thorne collaboration

OHMYGOSSIP — Steve Aoki has revealed he’s been working in the studio with Bella Thorne.
The producer – who has paired up with the likes of Louis Tomlinson, Linkin Park and Fall Out Boy in the past – shared photos of himself with the 19-year-old actress-and-singer on Twitter, and suggested a collaboration between them on an upcoming record.
Writing alongside one of the snaps on social media, Steve said: “Back in the #dimmakstudio w/ @bellathorne working on a [hot] new record.”
And he tweeted with another photo: “I love when @bellathorne cuddles up to me #dimmakstudio”
Bella – who is famous for her roles in the films ‘Perfect High’ and ‘Big Sky’ and TV shows ‘Shake It Up’ and ‘Famous In Love’ – has released a handful of singles but is yet to make a huge impact on the music charts.
In 2012, she released her debut album ‘Made in Japan’, and followed it up two years later with ‘Jersey’, with the single ‘Call It Whatever’ breaking into the Top 10 of the US Dance charts.
Steve had a worldwide smash hit with ‘Just Hold On’ with One Direction star Louis Tomlinson, his first single since One Direction went on hiatus.
Steve has previously revealed he prefers working with pop musicians rather than artists who are already in the EDM genre because they can offer something different to his usual skills set.
He said: “I did a song with Charli XCX, she’s always in LA, she’s a great girl. I prefer working with people not in the EDM world – it’s more challenging. I’ve started a lot with pop acts, why not?”

Madness’ Suggs says biopic could happen

OHMYGOSSIP — Madness’ Suggs has revealed there’s a chance his life story could be turned into a film.
The 56-year-old singer admits there has been discussions about telling the tale of how his ska/pop band – which was formed in the late 1970s – made it to the top of the charts but nothing is concrete yet.
Speaking about the biopic, he said: “It’s just a rumour that’s been going around, but there’s definitely a story to be told there … I couldn’t see myself in Hollywood – more like Holloway!”
Suggs is being followed around by cameras for a new project though.
The ‘Our House’ hitmaker is making a documentary entitled ‘My Life Story’ which will show what life is like on the road for him and his bandmates.
Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, he shared: “It’s called ‘My Life Story’ and follows me on the road, but it’s also interspersed with some dramatised sections. It’s looking pretty good.
Suggs has also opened up on his upcoming appearance hosting ‘WW2 Treasure Hunters’ but he’s not interested in reality TV and and admits the thought of going into the jungle to eat bugs on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ does appeal to him.
He said: “There’s been loads of reality stuff I’ve been offered, but I didn’t fancy eating worms for six months. With ‘WW2 Treasure Hunters’ there is a great mix of archaeology and history. So there’ll be experts talking about this stuff and I’ll wander in asking stupid questions.”
Meanwhile, the singer has announced tour dates for his new one man show ‘What A King Cnut… A Life in the Realm of Madness’.
Suggs will be heading out around the UK for a host of dates which will see him recount tales from his incredible career including getting vertigo when he performed with Madness on the roof of Buckingham Palace and the bizarre moment he watched his underpants fall to earth on David Bowie’s driveway.
The announcement of Suggs’ latest one man tour caps a busy period for the Madness frontman, with their notorious annual shindig, the ‘House Of Fun Weekender’ taking place at Butlins Minehead from November 17 to 20, and the release of a new greatest hits album, ‘Full House: The Very Best Of Madness’ which comes out on 17 November.

Liam Gallagher not mad for money

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher doesn’t care about how much money he has earned from his music career.
The former Oasis frontman – who is worth an estimated £6 million – insists he has no idea how much he has in the bank and what he’s spent over the years.
Asked when he last spoke to the bank manager, he said: “Never. I’m not into that s**t man. I don’t know how much money I’ve got, I don’t know how much money I’ve lost. I’m not a**ed.”
The ‘Wall of Glass’ hitmaker – who has daughters Molly, 20, and Gemma, four, from flings with Lisa Moorish and Liza Ghorbani, and sons Lennon, 18, and Gene, 16, with ex-wives Patsy Kensit and Nicole Appleton respectively – does like to spend money on takeaways because his culinary skills are quite limited.
Speaking to the new issue of Q magazine, he admitted: “I don’t cook. I mean, I make my kids’ breakfast when they stay over – toast and Coco Pops. If I’m on my own, I’ll have a takeaway. I like a curry. Nice and hot. Get those f***in’ eyebrows dripping. They’re like two wet rugs after I’ve had a vindaloo.”
Liam, 45, may not cook for his kids very often, but if the world was about to end, he’d make sure to spend some quality time with them.
Discussing what he’d do before the world ended, he said: “I’d round up the family and give them a big cuddle. I’d like to play some great concerts before then though. Stir up some real emotions and inspire the kids down the front. I’ve done my thing, I’m passing on the baton – it’s time someone else got cracking.”

Bruce Springsteen: I’m too old to listen to Taylor Swift

OHMYGOSSIP — Bruce Springsteen considers himself to be “too old” to listen to Taylor Swift.
The 68-year-old icon once attended a Taylor concert alongside his 25-year-old daughter Jessica and although he can appreciate her talents as a fellow songwriter, he admits Taylor’s music isn’t really suited to his taste.
Bruce explained: “When my daughter was in college, she took me with all of her girlfriends, and it was a fantastic show.
“Her audience experiences her songwriting very, very personally, and I think she’s speaking to a large part of them very personally.
“As far as craft, [her songs are] really, really well-built and well-made; they’re very, very sturdy, and the records are too.
“I admire the modern record-making craft and modern songwriting. It’s not necessarily something I’m driving around listening to in my car 24-7 – I’m too old, I tend to listen to older music.”
Bruce has two other children – Evan, 27, and Sam, 23 – with his wife Patti Scialfa.
And the music legend admitted they have also helped to introduce him to different sounds over the years.
He told Variety: “Through my children I’ve experienced a lot of different kinds of music.
“My son Evan was a big political/punk fan, he was into Rage Against the Machine and Tom Morello – Tom can really write – and he really tuned into the Dropkick Murphys and Against Me.
“My daughter was into Top 40, Taylor Swift and anything that was going on there, so I heard a lot of that through her.
“And my younger son is the classic-rock guy, Bob Marley and Bob Dylan and Creedence – but he got a lot of his music from videogames, from ‘Call of Duty’ and Vietnam videos, and that’s where he got turned onto a lot of ’60s stuff.”

Liam Gallagher writes song inspired by Yoko Ono meeting

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher has written a song on his album ‘As You Were’ which is inspired by his meeting with John Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono.
The 45-year-old singer was invited by the Japanese artist-and-musician to visit her at The Dakota building in New York City at the apartment she shared with John from 1973 until he was tragically murdered outside the building’s entrance in 1980.
Yoko asked Liam to come and see her after being touched that he had named his son Lennon Francis Gallagher – who was born in September 1999 to his first wife Patsy Kensit – after his hero and her spouse.
Whilst he was at her home the ex-Oasis star was fascinated by a banner written in Japanese that she had in her kitchen and once Yoko had translated the words for him Liam wrote the saying down and he has included it in his upcoming song ‘I’ve All I Need’.
In an interview on ‘The Chris Moyles Show’ on Radio X on Wednesday morning (04.10.17), Liam revealed: “I’ll tell you an interesting fact. There’s a line in there (on ‘I’ve All I Need’) that says ‘I hibernate and sing, while gathering my wings.’ I was over in New York once and I got a call saying, ‘Yoko wants to meet you’, and I just called me kid Lennon. So anyway we go to Yoko’s house in the Dakota building. Cut a long story short, we go in there and in the kitchen – she invites us in and makes us a cup of tea – and she’s got this banner, massive banner round the kitchen, and I said, ‘Oh what does that mean?’ And she goes, ‘Oh John asked the same question when we went to Japan to meet my parents.’ Anyway it says ‘while I’ve been hibernating, I’ve been gathering my wings’, and it was when he stopped making music. So I thought, write that down. So anyway, years go by, I’ve been trying to get it in to a song, could never get it in, and then it happened on that.”
After the birth of his and Yoko’s only child, son Sean, John took a hiatus from music from October 1975 until October 1980 when he released his comeback single ‘(Just Like) Starting Over’ followed by the album ‘Double Fantasy’, which came out in November the same year, just one month before he was killed at the age of 40.
Before Liam’s meeting with Yoko, the global icon had sent the ‘Wonderwall’ singer and Patsy a package of baby clothes and a card congratulating them on the arrival of their son, who is now making a name for himself as a model.
Previously revealing Yoko’s gift, Liam – who telephoned Yoko to thank her for the present – shared: “The card said, ‘To Lennon, welcome to the world, love, love, love Yoko 99’. I was freaked. Then a big box of baby clothes came from New York.”
You can listen to ‘The Chris Moyles Show’ on Radio X (Radiox.co.uk) weekdays from 6.30am to 10am and Saturday 8am to 11am.

Gary Barlow to go on solo tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Gary Barlow is to embark on a solo tour next year.
The ‘Open Road’ singer to to leave his Take That bandmates, Mark Owen and Howard Donald, behind when he heads out for a series of “intimate UK gigs” during the first half of 2018.
Since Take That reformed in 2005, Gary, 46, has previously gone on tour alone in 2014, when he played 18 concerts in support of his solo album ‘Since I Saw You Last’, but this time round he has nothing to promote but is simply going on the road because he loves performing live.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Gary loves gigging, it’s his passion.
“With no huge Take That commitments at the start of 2018 he’s going to fill the void by going on a solo tour. He wants to play theatres and intimate venues rather than arenas.”
The ‘Patience’ hitmaker is opting for smaller venues because he enjoyed Take That’s intimate show at the Roundhouse in Camden, north London, in 2015 so much, and also after being impressed by the sound quality at the Manchester Opera House when he attended the opening night of Take That musical ‘The Band’ last month.
Looking further ahead, Gary recently admitted the group are making big plans to celebrate their 30th anniversary in 2022, for which they hope will involve sometime member Robbie Williams and former bandmate Jason Orange.
He said: “We are looking to do something, hopefully maybe get Robbie on board, and Jason.
“I don’t think anything we do with Rob is going to relate to like a big 25-year project.
“In fact, I’ll tell you this for the first time, we’re looking at 30 years.
“We’re planning something to do for the 30-year all together.
“We’re looking that far ahead, something big, maybe a new record, maybe a greatest hits with a big tour.”
However, he later admitted Jason is unlikely to return.

Gerard Way hints My Chemical Romance reunion is unlikely

OHMYGOSSIP — Gerard Way has hinted a My Chemical Romance reunion isn’t likely anytime soon because it was “very stressful” being in the band.
While the 40-year-old singer admitted the ‘Welcome to the Black Parade’ hitmakers all get on really well, there was a lot of pressure that comes with being in the US rock group and he wouldn’t want to “disrupt” any of the band members’ lives by reuniting the quartet in the near future.
He said: “It’s a tricky thing, because you have four guys that really get along, and I think we all fully understand each other now and love each other.
“We all got together recently and it was wonderful – we didn’t even talk about the band or playing shows again.
“I don’t know if anything will happen in the future, but what I do know is everyone has a really great life right now.
“I think My Chem will always be there for us if we want it, but it adds a layer of stress.
“When something gets really big like that, it’s hard on you for many reasons, and it’s very stressful, so I wouldn’t want to disrupt anybody’s life right now.”
Gerard admitted the group went through a particularly tough period following the release of their fourth and latest studio album, ‘Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys’, because it wasn’t as well received as their third record, ‘The Black Parade’.
He said: “There were a lot of really dark times during that period, and I was drinking again, which I haven’t talked about a lot, but it was a really difficult time for me.
“It was tough on all the guys. We scrapped records, spent millions of dollars, and we were touring on this record, and it didn’t feel like the world needed My Chem anymore.”
The frontman had a feeling everyone would “hate” ‘Danger Days’ because ‘The Black Parade’ – which reached number two in both the UK Albums Chart and US Billboard 200 Chart – was so successful, and it put “pressure” on the band.
Speaking to the i newspaper, he added: “Everybody’s got an opinion, no one gets left alone anymore, and it stopped being about the art.
“I like playing with expectations. I thought, ‘Whatever we do next, everyone’s going to hate it – there’s just no way we can top that [album].’
“A lot of time had passed, too, so there’s all this added pressure on top of you.”

Miley Cyrus’ honest album

OHMYGOSSIP — Miley Cyrus’ new album is like a “private journal”.
The ‘Malibu’ singer has really opened up on her latest LP ‘Younger Now’ and given fans an insight into her life.
Speaking about the album, she said: “The lyrics let people into, like, my private journal … of how I really, really feel and … the love that I feel in my life for the things that I feel in my life.”
And the 24-year-old singer was “really inspired” by her father Billy Ray Cyrus for this album and enjoyed going back to her roots with the music.
She added: “My dad really inspired this record a lot, I think, going back into those roots of everything he instilled in me.”
Miley also revealed she was unlikely to be heading out on tour yet as she is really enjoying her time in Nashville.
Speaking at her album launch party at Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge in Nashville, she said: “I would love to go on tour, but right now I am back in Nashville. I’ve just really been enjoying being home and being with my animals. I want to be in Nashville.”
Meanwhile, Miley recently revealed her new album has made her the “proudest” she’s ever felt.
She said: “This record makes me the proudest I’ve ever felt about any work I’ve done. It’s a record which says how I feel about my life, about politics and about my relationship. These are my words.
“Making my own record and saying what I want to say has given me credibility. This gives me more power to go out and tell people to listen to me. So many people put words into my mouth and make me into what they think I am.”

Lauren Jauregui doesn’t care about chart success

OHMYGOSSIP — Fifth Harmony’s Lauren Jauregui doesn’t care about chart success.
The 21-year-old singer – who stars in the popular girl group alongside Ally Brooke, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane, and previously Camila Cabello – has insisted she’s proud of the band’s self-titled third album, regardless of whether it sells as many copies as their earlier releases.
She shared: “As an artist, I don’t care about where we are in the charts and all that. The important thing to me is to connect with a creative project. In this record, we’ve got our thoughts, our lyrics. When you listen to it, it’s about things we’ve lived through.
“We’ve worked our a**es off to get to where we are now. We’ve worked a lot and everyone that knows us can vouch for it.
“After all, of all we’ve lived till today, this is the most authentic we’ve done, and that motivates me a lot.”
Lauren, 21, also opened up about her fellow bandmates, who opted to continue together despite Camila’s departure in 2016.
The brunette beauty hailed Normani as the hardest-working member of the group, while she observed that Dinah is much more “carefree”.
Asked how she would describe each member of the band, Lauren told Billboard: “Ally is the sweetest being you could possibly imagine. Dinah is carefree; she doesn’t suffer irrelevant things. She only keeps the positive and holds no grudges.
“And Normani is the most hard-working person I know, and she’s always trying to improve and be the best version of herself.”

Liam Gallagher: Noel’s album will be ‘great’

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher thinks his brother Noel’s album will be “great”.
The 45-year-old musician is known for his long running feud with his brother and former Oasis band mate Noel Gallagher, and although he has taken to Twitter to slam Noel’s upcoming third High Flying Birds LP ‘Who Built The Moon?’ as “beige”, he has now admitted he thinks the record will be a success.
He said: “He’s gotta do his thing, I’ve gotta do my thing. He’s got an album coming out – I’m sure it’s gonna be great. Noel’s a good songwriter and I’ve said a million times before, I’m not really having a pop at him, I’m just letting him know I’m here. I’ve helped him and all his f***ing cronies get to where they were, as much as he helped me.”
And despite constant rumours of an Oasis reunion, the ‘Wall of Glass’ hitmaker insists it won’t happen, although he does miss being in a band with his 50-year-old sibling.
Speaking about the ‘Wonderwall’ musicians, Liam said: “I would prefer to be in a band, and we should never ever have split up, but I’m certainly not yearning for it, you know what I mean? I was – I needed it four years ago, but I certainly don’t f***ing need it now. I prefer to be in a band – one that makes the same kind of racket as Oasis. I miss being in a band with my brother. But it’s not happening.”
The ‘For What Its Worth’ singer – whose debut solo album ‘As You Were’ hits shelves on Friday (06.10.17) – also insists that whilst he does feud with Noel, he “loves” the brother he used to be in a band with, and simply thinks he’s “changed” in recent years.
Speaking to The Independent newspaper, Liam said: “I love my brother. The geezer I used to be in a band with – I f***ing adore him. Now he’s like guy smiley, he’s mister f***ing happy, I just look at him and I just go ‘F*** off’, that ain’t the brother I know. But the one I was in a band with, having a beer and a laugh with, without a doubt I adore him. But people do change, some for the better – some for the worse.”

Ariana Grande wants to get back in the studio

OHMYGOSSIP — Ariana Grande wants to get back to the studio as soon as possible.
The ‘One Last Time’ hitmaker has just wrapped up her Dangerous Woman Tour and plans to spend some time with her family and friends for a short while before she gets working on her next LP.
Speaking about her plans for her time off, she told Billboard: “I don’t even want to go home and relax. At the same time, it [the tour] has been a lot emotionally. It’s been very challenging for all of us involved. So it would be nice to really hold my loved ones close for a little while, stay home for a little bit.
“But knowing me, I’m going to be in the studio because I love it, and I want to create. I started an album already a year ago, over a year ago, but I want to keep creating, and it’s not done yet. So I’m going to take my sweet ass time, so I’ll be rested and ready to go again as soon as possible.”
