U2 delayed Argentina show for football match

OHMYGOSSIP — U2 delayed their concert in Argentina on Tuesday night (10.10.17) to allow football fans to watch a crucial World Cup qualifying match.
The Irish group put back their ‘The Joshua Tree Tour’ show at the La Plata stadium in Buenos Aires by almost two hours to enable supporters to see their nation take on Ecuador in a game they needed to win to have any chance of making the World Cup in Russia next year.
Fortunately for the home fans, a hat-trick by their star man Lionel Messi led Argentina to a 3-1 victory over their South American opponents in Quito, meaning they qualified for the 2018 tournament.
Fans at the concert venue watched the tense match – in which Ecuador took the lead after just a minute – from four big screens.
And when the gig did eventually go ahead the fans were in buoyant mood.
U2 posted an Instagram video of their supporters singing along to their hit ‘Vertigo’ at the show.
They wrote: “Hello hello, I’m at a place called Vertigo’ first night in Buenos Aires… #U2TheJoshuaTree2017 #U2 #BuenosAires #vertigo (sic)”
Before the game, producer Daniel Grinbank told Argentinian paper La Nacion: “Can you imagine what the show’s going to be like if Argentina wins? And if we lose, at least we can get rid of the bitterness with a great show. You can’t go wrong.”
U2 – made up of Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. – will return to La Plata for another show tonight (11.10.17) before heading to Santiago, Chile, for a concert on Saturday (14.10.17).
They will conclude their 51-date ‘Joshua Tree Tour’ with four shows in Sao Paulo, Brazil, finishing on October 25.
Noel Gallagher supported the group at the concert and he is a big fan of Premier League soccer side Manchester City, whose defender Nicolás Otamendi played the full 90 minutes for Argentina.

Django Django return with new album

OHMYGOSSIP — Django Django have announced their third album ‘Marble Skies’.
The Mercury Prize-nominated British rock group – comprised of Vincent Neff, Tommy Grace, David Maclean and Jimmy Dixon – are set to release the follow-up to 2015’s Top 20 LP ‘Born Under Saturn’ on January 26, 2018.
Lead single ‘Tic Tac Toe’, is a trippy upbeat rock track and is accompanied with a bonkers music video helmed by John Maclean, brother of Django Django drummer-and-producer David Maclean and director of the critically-acclaimed modernist western ‘Slow West’.
It depicts frontman Vincent enjoying a rapid-fire day-trip to Hastings, in South East England, which takes a turn into the surreal and sinister when a ghost train puts him on a collision course with a grim reaper inspired by Ingmar Bergman’s 1957 Swedish drama-fantasy film ‘The Seventh Seal’.
Maclean explained: “The film could be about the fading era of the beach arcades, time moving too fast, love and games, horror and happiness but it is actually about a man who needs to go buy a pint of milk to make a cup of tea.”
Whilst ‘Born Under Saturn’ had a huge rave sound, this time round Django Django decided to return to their DIY roots.
Their third outing started life at Urchin Studios in Tottenham, London with Metronomy drummer Anna Prior left to experiment and jam up new ideas.
Within 10 days of recording, the raw material was then sent to producer Maclean who works from his own studio in Dundee.
Ahead of the release of the record, the band will no doubt be introducing the new tracks at two live shows in Paris at LesinRocks festival on November 23 and Edinburgh’s Alternative Peers’ Ball on November 25.
The album track-listing for ‘Marble Skies’ is as follows:
1. ‘Marble Skies’
2. ‘Surface To Air’
3. ‘Champagne’
4. ‘Tic Tac Toe’
5. ‘Further’
6. ‘Sundials’
7. ‘Beam Me Up’
8. ‘In Your Beat’

Stormzy plans to storm to Christmas number one

OHMYGOSSIP — Stormzy is reportedly hoping to bag a Christmas number one with his gospel song ‘Blinded By Your Grace’.
The 24-year-old grime star managed to get to number eight in the festive official UK singles chart with ‘Shut Up’ last year, but he’s said to be working hard on sprucing up the track, which sees the rapper showcase his soulful tones backed by a choir, in an attempt to top the chart.
The ‘Big For Your Boots’ hitmaker’s co-writer and producer, Fraser T. Smith, teased to The Sun newspaper: “Stormzy’s got big plans for ‘Blinded By Your Grace’.
“I don’t want to say too much and jinx it.”
Last year, the London-born star – whose real name is Michael Owuo, Jr. – lost out to Clean Bandit, who nabbed the number one with ‘Rockabye’ featuring Anne-Marie.
They were followed closely behind Rag ‘n’ Bone Man’s ‘Human’ at number two and ‘Just Hold On’, the debut solo single from One Direction star Louis Tomlinson produced by Steve Aoki, in third position.
Meanwhile, Stormzy – who is a Catholic – recently created a new short film to accompany his critically-acclaimed LP ‘Gangs, Signs and Prayers’, in which he documents what it is like for young black kids growing up in less affluent areas of London, and the “inner battle” many of them face.
Speaking about the documentary – which was directed by Rollo Jackson – Stormzy said previously: “The hardest choice in life, but probably the most important choice is actually, like, the road you decide to walk down.
“Young youts like myself, that grow up in the hood, we often don’t know that we are actually the masters of our own destiny.
“There are so many things that steer us in the wrong direction however, we decide what happens in our own lives and like my album, I endeavoured for this film to portray just that. Derived from my album ‘Gang Signs & Prayer’, and written and directed by the legend that is Rollo, I’ll let the visual do the talking.”
The film tells the tale of a youngster called Thomas living in the south of the capital who has been brought up by a single parent, just like Stormzy.

Bradley Walsh announces second album

OHMYGOSSIP — Bradley Walsh has announced his second album ‘When You’re Smiling’.
The 57-year-old TV presenter’s debut LP ‘Chasing Dreams’ beat former One Direction star Zayn Malik’s record sales for his first solo album ‘Mind of Mine’ last year, and now after he inked a deal with Sony Music CMG, Bradley is set to return with a new covers record of songs from the stage and screen on November 10.
He said: “I am very flattered that so many people loved ‘Chasing Dreams.’ The amazing response that we received was a big surprise to us all and now we have to follow up that success with the second album.
“We have had a great time revisiting some of our favourite songs from stage and screen and I am very proud of what we’ve achieved. I can only hope that people enjoy listening to it as much as we did making it.”
The record also features an original song that the ‘Chase’ host penned with producer Steve Sidwell – who is credited for the orchestration and conducting of Robbie Williams’ multi-platinum selling albums ‘Swings Both Ways’ and ‘Swing When You’re Winning’ – called ‘You Know Best’.
After the success of his debut LP, Bradley said he was plotting a collaboration with grime star Stormzy after they bonded at the BRIT Awards.
He laughed: “My mate Stormzy, that. We hang together. Do a bit of grime. What else do we do, grunge? No, just grime.
“Definitely grime. Bruno Mars, he’s here, he’s my mate.
“We have something in common. He’s from Hawaii. I like Hawaiian pizza. That’s quite cool. Other than that, I don’t know why I’m here.
“Me and Stormzy we are going to do an album. We’re gonna do an album of Nelson Riddle arrangements in grime form. It’s gonna be called ‘Griddle’. We’re looking forward to it, we’re gonna collaborate. ”
The ‘When You’re Smiling’ track-listing is as follows:
‘Get Happy’
‘The Very Thought of You’
‘Who Can I Turn To’
‘Luck Be a Lady’
‘When Do The Bells’
‘When You’re Smiling / All of Me’
‘This Is All I Ask’
‘Maybe This Time’
‘I Have Dreamed’
‘Come Fly With Me’
‘The Good Life’

Ed Sheeran wins Song of The Year crown at the BMI London Awards

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran won the Song of The Year prize at the BMI London Awards at The Dorchester Hotel on Monday night (09.10.17).
The 26-year-old star scooped the coveted award for the second time in his career for writing Justin Bieber’s hit single ‘Love Yourself’, which saw off stiff competition from Zayn Malik (‘Pillowtalk’) and James Bay (‘Let It Go’) to capture the prize.
Ed – who received the Song of the Year award in 2016 for ‘Thinking Out Loud’ – was also awarded the Dance Song Of The Year gong for co-writing ‘Cold Water’ with Jamie Scott and MØ.
Elsewhere at the awards bash, Jay Kay of Jamiroquai received the BMI President’s Award because of his “originality, which has inspired generations of musicians and fans alike”.
Previous winners of the accolade include Kenny Chesney, P!nk, Willie Nelson, Adam Levine, and Toni Braxton.
Upon collecting the gong, Jay Kay said: “I’m very happy to receive this award tonight, it’s been 30 years since I began a career in music, and I’m lucky to still be able to do my thing and express it through songs.
“There’s still no better buzz really, than starting off with that ‘thing’ in your head and letting it get to the stage where you hear it on the radio, in front of loads of people, all over the world, it’s a real privilege.”
Meanwhile, English rock band Foals – who received their first ever BMI London Award on the night – and Bipolar Sunshine were both handed Pop Awards for ‘Mountain At My Gates’ and ‘Middle’ respectively.

Steve Aoki plans to be frozen to make music for decades to come

OHMYGOSSIP — Steve Aoki has invested £200,000 towards being frozen in the hope he can still be making music in the next 150 years.
The 39-year-old EDM superstar is putting all of his faith in Alcor Life Extension Foundation – the world’s leading cryonics organisation – and their work in finding a way to preserve bodies for decades until a future medical technology can restore that person to full health.
He said: “When you die there’s a limited number of ways you can be brought back to life.
“You can be buried or cremated.
“I just decided this way I can be frozen at the same degenerated state until there’s a way to bring me back.
“I’m assuming we are going to get there – why not?
Because people pass away and sometimes they get revived like after 30 seconds and come back alive.
“After 150 years, it’s the same process, but hopefully my body isn’t so bad it’s impossible.”
The ‘Just Hold On’ hitmaker plans on bringing his family with him into the deep freeze.
Asked who he’d like by his side, he told the Daily Star newspaper: “My mum, sister, brothers – my dad passed away sadly, so not him.”
In the meantime, Steve recently revealed he’s been in the studio with Bella Thorne.
The producer – who has paired up with the likes of Louis Tomlinson, Linkin Park and Fall Out Boy in the past – shared photos of himself with the 19-year-old actress-and-singer on Twitter, and suggested a collaboration between them on an upcoming record.
He captioned the post: “Back in the #dimmakstudio w/ @bellathorne working on a [hot] new record. (sic)”
The ‘Perfect High’ star has released a handful of singles but is yet to make a huge impact on the music charts.
In 2012, she released her debut album ‘Made in Japan’, and followed it up two years later with ‘Jersey’, with the single ‘Call It Whatever’ breaking into the Top 10 of the US Dance charts.

The Streets reuniting for tour

OHMYGOSSIP — The Streets are reuniting for a UK tour.
Frontman Mike Skinner has confirmed the group – who last toured in 2011 to support their fifth album ‘Computers and Blues’ – are getting back together for ‘The Darker The Shadow The Brighter The Light Tour’, and admitted it has been “long enough” since they last played for their fans.
He said: “I’ve missed tour buses very much. Which is the least of the reasons why I have decided to tour The Streets again.
“The other thing I’ve missed is trying to think up what I’m going to say in the gap between the songs.
“When you DJ they tell you that you don’t need a tour bus and you don’t need to think up things to say between the songs. But seriously, it’s been long enough.”
Mike also announced plans to hold nightclub after-parties after “every show” of the tour, which will start on April 19, 2018, in Birmingham before heading to Glasgow, Manchester and Leeds, as well as two dates in London.
He is quoted by NME magazine as saying: “With my Tonga parties, the new rap and grime MCs I have been producing and the DJing, I have been living with music since making The Streets for nearly as long as I made The Streets.
“I’m not the guy smoking in the car anymore though, I have become the guy in the club, so I hope I will be excused for putting on after-parties in nightclubs after every show.”
The 38-year-old star shared the tour poster on his Instagram page and confirmed the group will be performing “old songs”.
Mike wrote: “spoken to my band! told them we need to sing the old songs! on sale 9am Friday 13th (sic)”
The rapper’s comments could mean the group will perform tracks from their 2002 debut album ‘Original Pirate Material’ and 2004’s ‘A Grand Don’t Come for Free’, which spawned hit single ‘Fit but You Know It’, which hit number four in the UK Singles chart following its April 2004 release.
Mike recently dropped songs under the name The Darker the Shadow, The Brighter the Light – hence the name of The Streets’ comeback tour – and he also formed a supergroup, Tonga Balloon Gang, with UK rap outfit Murkage in 2015.
But in July, Mike insisted he couldn’t make another Streets album.
He said: “People get it wrong when they think I’m being belligerent about it. If someone asked me to make a Streets album tomorrow, I honestly don’t think I could do it. I wouldn’t know how to – it’s been that long. It’d just sound weird.
“I’m not sure if people want to hear an instrumental Streets album.”
Tickets for the tour go on general sale at 9am this Friday (13.10.17).
The Streets’ 2018 tour dates:
19 April – Birmingham O2 Academy
20 April – Glasgow O2 Academy
21 April – Manchester O2 Apollo
23 April – Leeds O2 Academy
25 April – London O2 Brixton
26 April – London O2 Brixton

The Pussycat Dolls confirm reunion

OHMYGOSSIP — The Pussycat Dolls have confirmed they are reuniting.
The girl group – who split in 2009 after six years together – have created a new website, entitled PCD Reunion, adding fuel to speculation the ‘When I Grow Up’ hitmakers are getting back together in the near future.
At the time of writing, the webpage only enables fans to sign up to their mailing list, send an email to the band and features a link to an Instagram page of the same name, which, in turn, links back to the site.
The emergence of the website comes just a week after speculation Nicole Scherzinger is to reunite with her former Pussycat Dolls band members Kimberly Wyatt, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta, and Melody Thornton.
A source said: “Talk of the girls getting back together has been rife for a few years now and they have finally found a time which works for them all.
“They are still deciding whether it will involve a full tour or just a handful of performances but they are excited to be getting out there together again…
“When they parted ways in 2009 it was only intended to be a hiatus, so it feels like the right thing to do.”
What’s more, the girl group are considering recording new material to play to their fans.
The insider added: “The girls feel the time is right to let bygones be bygones and put any differences they had behind them and celebrate the great songs they made.
“As well as their old tunes, they are hoping to treat fans with new music, too.”
The group achieved worldwide success over their six years together with hit singles such as ‘Don’t Cha’, ‘Buttons’ and ‘Stickwitu’.

OHMYGOSSIP — The Vamps have announced a new song featuring rising US star Maggie Lindemann.
The British four-piece will release ‘Personal’ – which received additional production from superstar producer Digital Farm Animals – on Friday (13.10.17).

Later this week, The Vamps and Maggie will host a special Facebook Live International Listening Party which will see them premiere the song and answer questions from the fans.
‘Personal’ is the first single to be taken from the ‘Day’ edition of ‘Night & Day’, their number one album.

She’s such a talented person whose voice added so much to the single. She’s not just a pretty girl ;)”. Maggie added “I love the song and the meaning behind it – I think everyone has gone through it. My manager and I were on our way to Norway and he played me a very rough demo of the song that only had Brad on it.
“I thought the concept was so cool! We recorded it a couple of weeks later. The Vamps were amazing to work with, super good energy all the time. They’re cool guys!”.

Billy Bragg’s song for Saffiya Khan

OHMYGOSSIP — Billy Bragg has released new song ‘Saffiya Smiles’ inspired by young activist Saffiyah Khan.
The folk rock star – who has had politics and activism at the centre of his songwriting during his 30-year career – was influenced by the bravery and courage of Saffiya after she stood up against the far-right protest group English Defence League at a counter-demonstration in Birmingham, North England, in April.
A photo of the showdown went viral on social media and caught the attention of Bragg, who subsequently penned the track about being able to confront hatred by peaceful protest, after the “shocking” white “supremacist” marches in Charlottesville in the US.
He explained: “Following the shocking scenes of white supremacists marching through the streets of Charlottesville this past summer, my mind went back to an image of a young woman facing down a ranting fascist with nothing but a serene smile.
“Saffiyah Khan had been taking part in a counter demonstration against the neo-fascist English Defence League in Birmingham, England, in April this year when she saw a woman being surrounded by taunting EDL supporters.
“Saira Zafar had been verbally opposing the racists and a number of them had left the demo to turn on her. When the police struggled to protect her, Saffiyah stepped up and got in the face of the loudest aggressor, holding him at bay with nothing more than a smile until police intervened.
“A press photographer captured the moment and the picture went viral.
“Local Labour MP Jess Phillips memorably tweeted the image with the caption “Who looks like they have the power here?”
“Saffiyah Khan’s selfless act of solidarity is an inspiration to us all and a reminder that sometimes you can confront hatred by calmly making plain how ridiculous its propagators are.”
The track, which is out now, follows his previous song raising awareness of the imminent threat of global warming, ‘King Tide And The Sunny Day Flood’.
Bragg felt obliged to address the struggles in Florida, California, where people’s livelihoods are being ruined by torrential floods caused by the rise in the sea level due to the melting ice-caps in the Antarctic, after a recent tour of the US.
The ‘California Stars’ hitmaker said people need to “act now” before the rest of the world is succumb to the dangers of the greenhouse effect.
The songs are set to be released on the mini LP ‘Bridges Not Walls’, which is comprised of six songs in total, on November 3 via Cooking Vinyl.
The ‘Bridges Not Walls’ track-listing is as follows:
1. ‘The Sleep Of Reason’
2. ‘King Tide And The Sunny Day Flood’
3. ‘Why We Build The Wall’
4. ‘Saffiyah Smiles’
5. ‘Not Everything That Counts Can Be Counted’
6. ‘Full English Brexit’

Noel Gallagher drops first song in two years Holy Mountain

OHMYGOSSIP — Noel Gallagher hopes the first single from ‘Who Built The Moon?’ will bring back some “joy” in music.
The 50-year-old rocker has released lead track ‘Holy Mountain’ from his third High Flying Birds album, which was the first song he worked on with producer David Holmes – who has remixed tracks for the likes of U2, Primal Scream and Ice Cube in the past and is renowned for his movie soundtrack work on films such as ‘Ocean’s Eleven and ‘Logan Lucky’ – and features the organ work of former Jam legend Paul Weller.
Speaking about his first piece of music in two years, Noel said: “It was one of the first things David and I did on the first week of working together. I knew instantly that it was going to be the first single. There’s so much joy in it. Until the day I die, it will be one of my favourite pieces of music that I’ve ever written. It sounds great live. My kids love it, my friends’ kids all love it and I am sure ‘the kids’ will love it.”
The release of the track comes after the former Oasis guitarist admitted he misses the “raging joy” in music.
The ‘Some Might Say’ hitmaker lamented the “golden age” of pop, when people didn’t pay attention to a song’s lyrics and just wanted to lose themselves in the track, and claimed the likes of Travis and Coldplay have changed the face of the genre with their desire to be regarded as “artists”.
He recently fumed: “I grew up in the golden age of pop, late 1970s, early 1980s.
“Nobody talked about lyrics. You listened. You danced. It affected your life. Who cares what it’s about?
“[When did it change?] Around Britpop, when everybody wanted to be considered ‘an artist’.
“When Travis and Coldplay came and it was all introverted, why-does-it- always-rain-on-me? It’s not just raining on you. It’s raining on everyone. I’d rather write a song about the umbrella, not the f***ing rain.
“Look at everybody’s first Britpop album. Oasis’. Blur’s. Pulp’s. Raging joy.
“I suppose it did get darker when drugs took over, yeah. And then you end up with the Libertines – lads with no teeth and their grandads’ hats.”
‘Who Built The Moon?’ – the follow-up to 2015’s ‘Chasing Yesterday’ – also features Johnny Marr.
The Smiths star recorded guitars and harmonicas on ‘If Love Is The Law’ on the LP.
It is the second time Marr has collaborated on one of Noel’s solo tunes, after previously playing guitar on ‘Ballad of the Mighty I’ which features on Noel’s previous record ‘Chasing Yesterday’.
‘Who Built The Moon?’ is released on November 24.

Noel Gallagher: I sound like Marvin Gaye on new album

OHMYGOSSIP — Noel Gallagher claims he sounds like Marvin Gaye on one of his new tracks.
The 50-year-old singer couldn’t believe it when he listened back to ‘Keep on Reaching’, which appears on his third solo studio album ‘Who Built The Moon?’, because his voice is just like the legendary soul singer’s, who is known for big tunes such as ‘Sexual Healing’.
He said: “There’s a track on the album where, honestly, I don’t know how I managed to do it, it sounds like Marvin Gaye.”
But the track could cause problems for Noel as he is now concerned he might not be able to recreate the soothing soul sound of the late Motown star when he is playing the song in front of a live audience.
He said: “I don’t even know if I’m going to be able to do it live. It’s incredible. It’s called ‘Keep on Reaching’. You know you’ve got a good album when that’s not even going to be a single.”
Noel’s new album will drop next month and while he is pleased the record hasn’t leaked online, the ‘Holy Mountain’ hitmaker “wouldn’t mind” if it did because he is so confident the album will be well received.
Speaking on ‘The Chris Moyles Show’ on Radio X on Monday (09.10.17), he said: “It’s been finished since March, so by the time it comes out, again it will be, kind of, nine months old. Because the tracks have been sent out, you’re kind of waking up every day, turning your phone on, open one eye thinking, ‘Has it been leaked today? Is today the day?’
“Touch wood so far, it’s not been leaked. We run a pretty tight ship at my label.
“Do you know what, to be quite honest, I wouldn’t mind [if it leaked], because it’s that good.
“There are some records that you think, ‘I hope people don’t hear it before it comes out, because no one’s gonna buy it’.
“But with this one, it’s just like, whatever. It’s pretty good.”

Post Malone receives career advice from Bob Dylan

OHMYGOSSIP — Post Malone received career advice from Bob Dylan.
The 22-year-old rapper is a huge fan of the 76-year-old music legend, who he has a tattoo of – along with his other idols Kurt Cobain, John Lennon and Elvis Presley on his knuckles – and has revealed that the ‘Blowin’ In The Wind’ singer suggested he work harder at his lyrics.
He said: “I’m a big Bob Dylan fan. I have a nice Bob Dylan tattoo.
“He’s a genius and I heard that his grandson played my music for him and he liked the music be he said I need help with lyrics.”
Dylan also influenced Malone to pick up the guitar on his forthcoming project ‘Beerbongs & Bentley’, which features the chart-topping single ‘Rockstar’, a collaboration with fellow hip-hop star 21 Savage.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: “I played a lot more guitar on this album.
“I wanted to push boundaries and change the standard of what music is, and it’s a genre-less style of music instead of hip-hop.”
Malone was also inspired by Dylan’s bravery in picking up an electric guitar for the first time for Side Two of his fifth album ‘Bringing It All Back Home’, despite critics within the folk world, including musician Ewan MacColl, slamming him for performing with a rock band and moving away from political tracks in favour of hits like 1965’s ‘Like a Rolling Stone’.
However, the ‘Go Flex’ star says it is too early in his career to upset the masses.
He explained: “Everyone was p***ed off when Dylan picked up an electric guitar.
“but you don’t want to alienate people so it’s important to take baby steps, unless you’re trying to p*** people off, which is sometimes awesome. But my career is in its infancy period, So I want to take it easy.”

Sam Smith self-conscious about his voice

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Smith is “very self-conscious” about his voice.
The ‘Too Good At Goodbyes’ hitmaker admits “more than ever” that he is very nervous about how his singing voice is received by others.
He shared: “Oh, I’m very self-conscious about my singing voice, always have been … Absolutely! Now more than ever! Even when I’m singing in the studio, I will study people’s faces afterward to see if I’ve done a good enough job.”
And the 25-year-old singer insists he is a “happy” person but likes to “let out his sadness” in his songwriting.
He added: “Oh, but I’m a happy person! Well, most of the time. But I tend to keep that for me and my family. It’s when I go into the studio that I let out my sadness. I find it easier writing sad songs than I do happy ones. [The new album] is bleak. It’s not a happy record.”
Sam spent five days in Mosul, Iraq, working with charity War Child, and he has revealed how it “opened his eyes” and inspired him to take a different direction with his upcoming LP ‘The Thrill Of It All’.
He told Billboard magazine: “I spent five days in Mosul and came back embarrassed that I had known so little about the world and other people’s lives. I went back to that great Nina Simone quote, that it is important to speak about the times you live in. I hadn’t done that; I’d just written a bunch of songs about love. So I wanted to write about how I’m now starting to open my eyes, at 25, to what is going on in the rest of the world, and that it’s not always pretty.”
