Beck had close connection with Tom Petty

OHMYGOSSIP — Beck has opened up on Tom Petty’s “gut-wrenching” death and revealed he was at the singer’s final show last month.
The ‘Loser’ singer compared the death of the late ‘I Won’t Back Down’ hitmaker – who passed away earlier this month at the age of 66 – to “losing family”, and revealed the impact he had on the star’s early career.
Speaking candidly to Billboard magazine, he said: “It was just gut-wrenching. I was at his last show [at the Hollywood Bowl on Sept. 25]. We did shows with him years ago, but I didn’t get to work with him or spend a lot of time with him.
“He covered a few of my songs when I was starting out, which meant a lot to me. He’s probably the first musician of that stature who reached out like that.
“The [Heartbreakers] really were an LA band, just as much as The Beach Boys. Their music was an idealisation of even the banal parts of LA. This sort of beautiful summer day in the Valley, that kind of feeling. If you grew up here, it’s like losing family.”
Tom was laid to rest on Monday (16.10.17), as friends and family gathered at the Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine in Pacific Palisades, California to celebrate his life.
Tom’s death – which was a result of cardiac arrest – was announced by his manager in a statement.
He said at the time: “On behalf of the Tom Petty family we are devastated to announce the untimely death of our father, husband, brother, leader and friend Tom Petty.”
Meanwhile, Beck also opened up on winning his first Grammy Award for best album in 2015 for his 12th record ‘Morning Phase’, and dismissed the idea of being a legend getting belated recognition.
He added: “I don’t think I reached the heights that Steely Dan did in their day, or Tom Petty. I’m still a work in progress. I don’t think I ever had a plateau like those artists, where you just have an undeniable run for 10 years.”

Jessie Ware: Ed Sheeran made me write about my dad

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran persuaded Jessie Ware to confront her feelings about being abandoned by her father on her new album.
The ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker collaborated with Jessie on personal track ‘Sam’ on her new album ‘Glasshouse’, which she wrote for her daughter – who was born in September 2016 – and husband Sam Burrows.
The song includes the line: “I hope she knows I’ve found a man far from my father: Sam, my baby and me.”
Jessie, 33, penned the track with Ed when she was eight months pregnant and the songwriter really pushed her to be honest on the track.
She told The Guardian newspaper: “He could see that I was ready to pop, and so he was like, ‘Let’s go there.’
“The father line, he definitely pushed. I said, I don’t know, am I p***ing my father off? He said, if it feels uncomfortable, maybe you should be doing it. And so I went for it.”
Jessie’s father, the former Panorama journalist John Ware, walked out on her and her mother and sister when she was just nine year old.
She said: “It was quite a public thing … it was really horrible, actually.”
The ‘Say You Love Me’ singer also revealed how she has not been able to take time out from work to focus on being a mother as it would be detrimental to her music career.
Jessie said: “I didn’t get a maternity leave! I was writing emails a few days after [giving birth] because I’m self-employed and it’s my business.”

Niall Horan wants Shawn Mendes duet

OHMYGOSSIP — Niall Horan wants to duet with Shawn Mendes.
The ‘Slow Hands’ singer is a big fan of the ‘Stitches’ hitmaker, and though their busy schedules have made it difficult for them to get together in the recording studio, he’s hoping they’ll find time in the coming months.
He said: “The fans would love it. He’s in the middle of his album at the minute so if we can get something rustled up in the next while, we’ll see what happens. But we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.”
The 24-year-old singer is also a big fan of “incredible” Adele and thinks she’s done a lot to promote British music.
He told The Sun newspaper: “Oh I love Adele, she is a dream. She’s just an unbelievable talent and what she’s done for British music around the world – she’s just incredible.”
Niall is the only member of One Direction to be recognised at the upcoming American Music Awards and he’s honoured to have been shortlisted as Best New Artist.
He said: “It’s unbelievable. It’s one of my favourite nights of the year. This year, with the nomination, it’s really cool, especially with some of the sick artists that are out.”
And the ‘This Town’ hitmaker admits it has been “tough” to be a successful solo artist because his sound is so different to what is popular right now.
He said: “My music probably stands out like a sore thumb today. You’re competing in the charts with The Weeknd, Ed Sheeran and Dua Lipa. It’s tough.”
While he’s enjoying life as a solo artist, Niall still expects One Direction to get back together in the future.
He said: “It’s only been like two years or whatever so I’m not worried about it. I’m not rushing it and I’m not worried that it won’t happen.”

Fall Out Boy complete 7th album

OHMYGOSSIP — Fall Out Boy have finished recording their seventh studio album.
Bassist Pete Wentz has confirmed the group are in the mixing stage of the record, which is expected to drop in January 2018, and didn’t think the band – whose new album was initially due to be released in September before being pushed back – would be in such a position six months ago.
He said: “We’re done recording, officially! Which is pretty awesome. We’re just in the mixing stages now. Now, we’re just mixing and mastering the songs, which is really exciting.
“This didn’t seem like a place we could get to six months ago. It’s really cool to be here. We finished recording, maybe last week.”
Pete admitted Fall Out Boy’s new album will have a “pretty aggressive” sound, and the ‘Uma Thurman’ hitmakers – who are also made up of Patrick Stump, Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley – were keen to ensure it lives up to its ‘Mania’ title.
He said: “The next song we put out will be less electronic, comparatively, but at the same time the record is called ‘Mania’ so it’s going to feel manic just by nature of what it’s called.
“I think it’s not all super electronic but maybe it is all pretty aggressive.”
Fall Out Boy kick off their ‘Mania Tour’ on Friday (20.10.17) in Cleveland, Ohio, but Pete recently admitted they hadn’t even “rehearsed” with their new production.
Speaking to cleveland.com, he added: “It’s going to be different staging than our last couple of tours. I’m excited about it. We haven’t rehearsed it yet, so hopefully it all works. The visuals will be based on mania and based on the album. Hopefully that all comes together the way it’s supposed to.”

Liam Gallagher: I should have won three Q Awards

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher has jokingly claimed he was robbed of a third Q Award, because Kasabian did not deserve to win Best Track for ‘You’re In Love With A Psycho’.
The former Oasis singer took home Best Live Act and a Q Icon gong from the music awards ceremony at The Roundhouse in Camden, London, on Wednesday (18.10.17). But Liam was disappointed his single ‘Wall Of Glass’ was not voted Best Track by Q readers.
He told Absolute Radio’s Danielle Perry backstage at the event: “I’d have had three to be fair because that ‘…Pyscho’ tune by Kasabian is not f***ing nowhere near as good as ‘Wall Of Glass’ and I know they think it is and I know the people voted for it and all that but deep down it aint. I aint a greedy person but I’m just letting people know. And Tom [Meighan ] knows it, and Serge [Pizzorno] knows it. If I don’t put it out there, it’ll ruin my night. ‘Wall Of Glass’ is much better than that f***ing ‘…Psycho’ tune.”
Despite his debut solo LP ‘As You Were’ topping the UK album chart, Liam has made no secret of the fact he would rather still be in Oasis with his older brother Noel Gallagher.
The 45-year-old singer thinks the world needs him and Noel, 50, to put aside their differences because the world is such a crazy place now.
The band split in August 2009 after a huge backstage bust-up which resulted in Liam swinging a guitar at Noel’s head, resulting in him quitting the group stating that he couldn’t go on working with his younger sibling.
Liam said: “Oasis ain’t getting back together, but The Verve might be. But I think with all the s**t that’s going on in the world. It’s like United King f**king doom not United Kingdom isn’t it? This is not me putting it out there going I need my brother, I’m quite happy doing what I’m doing. I’m having a nice time, I’m sure he is, but I just think sometimes … we’ve got such a f***ing great life, I think we should put all our s**t aside and just all have a f**king good time.”
The 45-year-old musician also confirmed his 16-year-old son Gene, from his marriage to All Saints star Nicole Appleton, is set to join him on tour, and possibly perform alongside him on stage.
Liam said: “He’s a top drummer. He’s going to come out and just hang out.”

Diana Ross to scoop Lifetime Achievement Award at AMAs 2017

OHMYGOSSIP — Diana Ross will receive the American Music Award for Lifetime Achievement at the 2017 American Music Awards on November 19.
The 73-year-old legend – who found fame in 60s girl group The Supremes before enjoying decades of success as a solo singer – is set to be recognised for her outstanding contribution to the music industry and popular culture, Dick Clark Productions and ABC announced Wednesday (18.10.17).
Speaking about the honour, Ross said in a statement: “I have endless memories of all the years that I have appeared on the American Music Awards. It started with Dick Clark and the Caravan of Stars and American Bandstand. It was Dick Clark who said, ‘Music is the soundtrack of our lives.’ So true. I am so excited to be receiving this honorable award.”
The ‘Upside Down’ hitmaker has won seven American Music Awards during the course of her career and hosted the show in 1986 and 1987, and presented the first ever Dick Clark Award for Excellence to Taylor Swift in 2014.
Meanwhile, Bruno Mars leads the nominations for the 2017 ceremony, with eight nods, but he will battle it out with Ed Sheeran, Drake, Kendrick Lamar and The Chainsmokers to be crowed the winner of the prestigious Artist of the Year gong.
Ed, 26, has been nominated for Video of The Year, Favourite Song and Favourite Soundtrack for ‘Shape Of You’, as well as, Favourite Male Artist and Favourite Artist.
And hip hop star Kendrick Lamar is a big contender to bag some prizes on the night as he has the chance to take home Artist of The Year, Favourite Artist (rap/hip-hop), Favourite Album for ‘DAMN’ and Favourite Song for ‘Humble’.
Whilst males dominate the categories, Alessia Cara, Lady Gaga and Rihanna are also in the running to be honoured for an award as they are set to go head-to-head to be crowned Favourite Female Artist.
The 45th AMAs will take place on November 19, and the glitzy event, which will be hosted by Ludacris and Vanessa Hudgens, will be broadcast live on ABC.

Lulu to sing on Naughty Boy’s new track

OHMYGOSSIP — Lulu will make her chart comeback on Naughty Boy’s next song.
The 68-year-old star has been head-hunted by the Beyoncé collaborator, who says he’s keen to work with the legendary British singer because his parents are “big fans”.
He told The Sun newspaper: “My parents are big fans. It would be good to show a new side to an experienced artist. It will be Naughty Boy featuring Lulu.”
Last month, Naughty Boy – whose real name is Shahid Khan – announced a compilation of Motown covers titled ‘Naughty Town’.
And the 32-year-old producer is also hoping to get Justin Timberlake and Robbie Williams on the record – which includes a reworked version of The Jackson 5’s hit ‘Dancing Machine’ by Laura Mvula.
He said: “It’s about introducing Motown to a new generation. Justin Timberlake is a big Motown fan so we are in talks to do something with him. “I want to do one with Robbie Williams, I’ve had a chat with him about it – he’s a fun guy.”
Lulu’s last album ‘Making Life Rhyme’ was released in 2015 but her last top 10 hit was with Ronan Keating in 2002 with their collaboration ‘We’ve Got Tonight’.
The ‘Shout’ hitmaker also revived her career with chart toppers Take That in 1993 on their song ‘Relight My Fire’ and released a cover of David Bowie’s hit ‘The Man Who Sold the World’ after he begged her to lend her vocals to the song in 1976.
She recalled: “During the night he said to me, I think very early on he said, ‘I love your voice,’ and I was like, ‘Oh my God!’ and he said, ‘I wanna make a mother f**king hit with you’ and I thought, ‘Yeah right, we’ll see.’ I was very impressed. I was very flattered. That’s how it happened.”

Ed Sheeran to be back performing ‘within a month’

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran will be back on stage performing “within a month.”
The ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker was forced to cancel some of his upcoming shows in Asia after he fractured his right wrist and left elbow in a bike accident in London this week but, according to The Sun Online, he was overheard telling his friend Wiley that he was “counting down the days” until he could get back out there and perform again.
The 26-year-old singer was due to play Taipei Nangang Exhibition Hall on October 22 before performing at the Osaka-Jo Hall, Seoul’s Olympic Park – The 88 Garden, two dates at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo and a further two dates at Hong Kong’s AsiaWorld-Expo Hall 10 up until November 5.
But he announced earlier this week that his doctor had told him to slash the tour for the “immediate future” because both of his arms in tied up in a cast and bandages.
He said: “A visit to my doctors confirmed fractures in my right wrist and left elbow that will leave me unable to perform live concerts for the immediate future.
“Sadly, this means that the following shows will not be able to go ahead as planned: Taipei, Osaka, Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong. I’m waiting to see how the healing progresses before we have to decide on shows beyond that. Please stay tuned for more details. PS – Ed isn’t typing this as he has both arms casted/bandaged.”
Ed is also scheduled to play in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, India and the United Arab Emirates throughout November.
And, although it’s not yet known whether those dates are affected, it’s believed the flame-haired hunk is hoping that he’ll be able to recommence his tour by then.

Nicki Minaj ‘reintroduced’ female rappers

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicki Minaj believes she “reintroduced” successful female rappers into the music industry.
The 34-year-old rapper has taken to social media to clarify the comment made in a recent interview on ‘XXL’ – where she credited herself for making “female rappers mainstream” – and she has revealed what she meant was she played a part in encouraging women to make rap music again, and compete with their male rivals, because she felt there was a “drought” of successful female rap albums when she started her music career.
In a length [post shared on her Instagram account, the ‘Anaconda’ hitmaker – who made her breakthrough with the release of her debut album ‘Massive Attack’ in 2010 – said: “I see ppl remixing my words so let me post “exactly” what I said for the intelligent ones in the back. Now, if you can find the part where I said “I made female rappers mainstream”, I’ll give you $100,000.00.
“Imagine me saying I made female rappers mainstream when there were so many women who already had platinum albums under their belts
“now what I DID say is right here for anyone w/their own brain to decipher words on their own. I know it’s hard in the social media band wagon era, but try. It’s fun.
“When I came out, there had been a drought of a few years where NO female rap album had gone platinum, females weren’t getting budgets, the industry did NOT believe in the female rapper anymore. They had stopped generating MONEY for labels. Ask any rap historian or just anyone with a brain. These are facts and nothing but the facts.
“So I ‘REINTRODUCED’ the ‘successful’ female rapper back to POP CULTURE. Showed big business we were major players in the game just like the boys were. love you guys for holding me down but what’s true is true & whats not is just simply not. (sic).”
And the artist – whose real name is Onika Tanya Maraj – has hailed Lauryn Hill, Eve, and Queen Latifah for breaking boundaries in the entertainment industry and for inspiring budding artists like her.
Nicki continued: “Lauryn sold 10 million off one album, Eve had platinum singles w/Alicia, Gwen Stefani, her own tv show & clothing line. It doesn’t get more mainstream/pop than Missy’s biggest singles. Foxy&Kim had platinum albums & shaped the sound of NY female rappers, Latifah had her own sitcom, Trina was on billboard with hits, etc- I appreciate the love but I never said that. (sic).”

Liam Gallagher slates Noel’s new single

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher has branded his brother Noel’s new single “annoying”.
The ‘Wall of Glass’ singer thinks his older sibling has played it too safe with his latest track, ‘Holy Mountain’ and wouldn’t want to listen to it himself.
Asked his opinion on the song, he told Vulture: “Obviously you know what I’m going to say, but it’s not for me. Musically, I find it a bit annoying. I think there are too many notes in it, and it’s just a bit not risky. It’s not for me.”
The 45-year-old rocker insists he doesn’t care that Noel has always been portrayed as the more sensible sibling because he thinks his 50-year-old brother and former Oasis bandmate has worked hard at trying to be “beige”, while he doesn’t worry about what people think of him.
He said: “He works hard at being beige, so I wouldn’t want to come and take his crown at that.
“Noel’s a very clever guy, and he certainly knows how to work the press, whereas I don’t give a f**k, and I just do what I do, and if you write about it, you write about it. I’m here to sing songs as best as I can, and have as much fun as I can, and do as little as possible in life, because that’s my motto. Know what I mean?”
Oasis’ third album, ‘Be Here Now’, turned 20 in August and Liam believes it has received unfair criticism over the years, which he attributes to Noel’s own dislike of the record, though he claims his brother only doesn’t like the LP because it reminds him of going through his divorce from first wife Meg Matthews.
He said: “I’m not bringing people up, but there are a lot of sheep out there, aren’t there? And if the main guy [Noel Gallagher] says, ‘Oh, it’s f***ing this and that’, a lot of people not using their own minds say, ‘Yeah, I agree.’
“If Noel had said it’s the best thing ever, I’m sure it’d have gotten a different f***ing reception. The reason why he didn’t like it is because it reminds him of a not-so-good time with his ex-wife. That’s fine. That’s his prerogative.
“But me, I had a good time making that album. I think there are some great songs on it. I think I sung really well, and it was a good time to be alive.”
And any of the songs he doesn’t like on the record, Liam also suggested was because Noel had got too involved in the production process.
He added: “Some of the songs went on a bit long, and they were a bit overproduced, but that’s what happens, mate, if you think you’re a producer.
“At that time, our kid was always messing with the tracks. It’s like, write the songs, play the guitar, and shut the f**k up. I like that album, because that’s what I did — I sang the songs, I had a good time, and went to the pub.”
Meanwhile, on Wednesday (18.10.17) Liam announced details for a European tour in support of the album, which kicks off on February 23 next year.
After the opening night in Madrid, the Britpop icon will perform shows in Barcelona, Milan, Padova, Zurich, Paris, Cologne, Berlin, Brussels and Amsterdam.

Harry Styles came up with One Direction name

OHMYGOSSIP — Harry Styles claims he named One Direction.
The 23-year-old singer was put into the group alongside Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik when they auditioned as solo artists on ‘The X Factor’ in 2010 and he takes responsibility for their moniker.
He said: “I think it was me [who came up with the name]. I know they’re not here to defend anything else, but it was me.”
But despite coming up with the 1D name, Harry admitted he can’t actually remember the inspiration behind it.
He added: “I thought it sounded good. We threw around names for a little bit, and I honestly don’t know. I suggested it and everyone was like ‘Yeah we like that’ and then it kind of stuck, and that was what it was.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Two Ghosts’ singer admitted he’s still trying to work out what it is he wants to explore in the industry.
Speaking to CBS, he said: “I don’t know the answers, I’m 23 and very much feel like I am still learning so much. I’m just kind of figuring it out. I wanted [my music] to be honest and I wanted to love it every time that I played it. It didn’t feel scary, I mean I think the idea of making something that I wasn’t 100 per cent behind is much scarier.”
Harry was still a teenager when he shot into the limelight after taking part in ‘The X Factor’ and he has admitted he’ll never forget how quickly his life changed.
He explained: “First of all, it’s fun because you’re not at school so you’re already winning. The first time we got to Paris we got off the train and there was a lot of people there and I lost my shoes. I ended up off the ground somehow and realised I wasn’t walking any more. That was crazy.”

Dua Lipa learnt so much from touring with Bruno Mars

OHMYGOSSIP — Dua Lipa admits being on tour with Bruno Mars was a masterclass in “showmanship”.
The ‘New Rules’ star hit the road with the ‘Locked Out of Heaven’ hitmaker for 10 dates across the US in September, and she took the opportunity to pick up some tips from what she considers to be one of the best performers in the business.
Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, she said: “It’s amazing. I love being on tour and when I was on tour with Bruno Mars I got to watch him perform night after night and really learn from his showmanship.
“He is so well rehearsed so I felt like I was learning from the best. It’s been amazing to perform in such big rooms and massive arenas is really rewarding.”
Dua will get to continue the amazing experience next year, when she heads out to New Zealand and Australia with Bruno on that leg of his world tour.
The English singer was honoured with the ASCAP Vanguard Award on Monday night (16.10.17) because of the impact the ASCAP member has made and is predicted to make on pop music.
The 22-year-old star was delighted to be recognised at the glitzy ceremony, held at the One Marylebone venue in London, and took to social media afterwards to thank the organisation for the honour, while revealing she is heading back into the studio to work on fresh tunes.
The singer – who released her debut self-titled album in June – posted on Twitter: “Thank you @ASCAP for my Vanguard award. What a wonderful awards ceremony … now all dressed up accordingly for my studio session.”

Fleur East leaves Syco

OHMYGOSSIP — Fleur East has reportedly been dropped by Syco three years after finishing as the runner-up on The X Factor.
The ‘Sax’ hitmaker appeared on the 11th series of the talent competition and finished just behind winner Ben Haenow – who is also no longer on Syco – has “parted ways” with talent show boss Simon Cowell’s own label, despite remaining on good terms with him and the team.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “It was felt by both sides now was the time to go down different paths. She will remain a friend of the label because everyone’s really fond of her.”
Fleur, 29, released her debut album ‘Love, Sax and Flashbacks’ on the label in 2015, with the release charting at 14 in the UK album rankings.
It followed an exciting run on ‘The X Factor’ in 2014, when her cover of Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ track ‘Uptown Funk’ became the first single released by an active contestant to hit the top of the UK iTunes chart.
She originally appeared on the competition back in 2005 with Addictiv Ladies, following it up with a short-lived solo career while signed to BMG’s Strictly Rhythm label.

Harry Styles ‘still figuring out’ life

OHMYGOSSIP — Harry Styles is “still trying to figure out” his life.
The 23-year-old singer decided to go solo after his band One Direction went on an extended hiatus in 2016 but, although he thoroughly enjoys making music on his own, he’s still trying to work out what it is he wants to explore in the industry.
Meanwhile, the ‘Sign of the Times’ singer made his acting debut this year with a well-received performance in wartime drama ‘Dunkirk’ but he thinks his two professions are very different and he puts “so much” of himself into his music.
He said: “When I heard about ‘Dunkirk’, I felt it would have been something I’d have been really excited to watch if I’d not been involved. I just felt very lucky to be involved in something I thought was going to be amazing.
“To me, acting and singing very much feel like opposite things. With music, you put so much of yourself into it. The whole point of acting is not being yourself at all – you’re trying to completely play someone else.”

Ed Sheeran cancels tour dates after fracturing arm

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran has cancelled some of his upcoming shows in Asia after a doctor confirmed he has fractured both arms.
The ‘Castle On The Hill’ hitmaker has announced he will be unable to perform in Taipei, Osaka, Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong after he fractured his right wrist and left elbow in a bike accident in London.
