Sia announces Christmas album

OHMYGOSSIP — Sia is releasing a Christmas album.
The ‘Chandelier’ singer will release her first collection of seasonal songs after signing to Atlantic Records – following her departure from RCA earlier this year – which she has penned with producer and songwriter Greg Kurstin.
The album is called ‘Everyday is Christmas’ and will be released on November 17, with the tracklisting featuring titles such as ‘Santa’s Coming For Us’, ‘Snowflake’ and ‘Underneath the Christmas Lights’.
Atlantic will have high hopes for the record, after CEO Craig Kallman and COO Julie Greenwald heaped praise on Sia, describing her as an “extraordinary” performer when they announced her deal with the label.
In a joint statement, they said: “Sia is a once-in-a-generation artist. Her extraordinary gifts as a singer and songwriter, her revolutionary approach to the art of performing, her groundbreaking videos – everything she does comes from a deep wellspring of inspiration and imagination.
“Sia is that rare artist who has formed her own singular, boundless musical universe. We are so happy to welcome her into the Atlantic family and to be joining Sia on her amazing musical journey.”
It will be her eighth studio album to date, following 2016’s This Is Acting, and this year alone she has released four singles, including her Labrinth collaboration ‘This Is Human’, which featured in comic book blockbuster ‘Wonder Woman’.
Sia – ‘Everyday is Christmas’ tracklist:
1. ‘Santa’s Coming For Us’
2. ‘Candy Cane Lane’
3. ‘Snowman’
4. ‘Snowflake’
5. ‘Ho Ho Ho’
6. ‘Puppies Are Forever’
7. ‘Sunshine’

Stormzy leads MOBO Awards nominations

OHMYGOSSIP — Stormzy leads the nominations for this year’s MOBO Awards with five nods.
The 24-year-old grime artist – whose real name is Michael Omari – is in the running for both Best Male and Best Grime Act, as well as Best Album for his debut record ‘Gangs Signs & Prayer’ and Best Song and Best Video for ‘Big For Your Boots’.
However, his rival J Hus is nipping at his heels as he has managed to bag four nominations himself in the Best Male section, Best Album category for ‘Common Sense’, Best Song for ‘Did You See’ and Best Video for ‘Spirit’.
Following closely behind with three nominations each are Jorja Smith and Stefflon Don – who are both up for Best Female and Best Newcomer – while Mercury Prize winner Sampha will be hoping to add to his trophy collection by walking away with the gongs for Best Male, Best R&B/Soul Act and Best Album.
This year’s Best Male Category could be a close call as not only is Stormzy going head-to-head with Sampha and J Hus, but all three of them will also battle it out against Skepta, Bugzy Malone, Giggs and Chip, to name a few.
The Best Female section is equally strong – and unpredictable – with Emeli Sande, Jessie Ware and Lady Leshurr also making the cut, while DJ Khaled, Drake, Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, Wizkid and Solange Knowles are among those in with the chance of bagging the Best International Act prize.
This year’s ceremony – supported by Leeds City Council and LeedsBID – will take place at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on November 29 and there will be live performances filling up the night – although the line up is yet to be announced.

Elton John ending Las Vegas residency

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Elton John has announced that his ‘Million Dollar Piano’ Las Vegas residency will come to an end in 2018.
The 70-year-old music legend will wrap up a 450-show run after 14 years performing at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, and the hotel’s President Gary Selesner has paid tribute to Elton for all the wonderful entertainment he has provided over the years.
Selesner said: “For over a decade, Elton John and his band have graced the stage at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, performing all the hits that have defined a generation.
“Elton John’s residency at The Colosseum has set the standard for those all that have followed. We are incredibly grateful to Elton for allowing Palace to be the home for his 450 memorable performances.”
Elton is set to say his final farewell to the venue on May 19 next year, after launching his initial Sin City residency ‘The Red Piano’ in February 2004, and performing 243 shows by April 2009.
He revived the showcase in September 2011, and the ‘Your Song’ legend – who missed a series of shows earlier this year after catching a bacterial infection in South America – is expecting to start the final run on April 28.
The ‘Rocket Man’ hitmaker has a deep love for the city, and he recently opened up about his reaction to the horrific mass shooting on October 1 that claimed the lines of 58 people at the Route 91 Harvest music festival.
He told the Las Vegas Sun newspaper: “I couldn’t believe it … This is a town that has been so kind to me. I’ve been appearing here throughout my career … and it has a big place in my heart.”

Francis Rossi: Rick Parfitt spoke to me from beyond the grave

OHMYGOSSIP — Francis Rossi says he heard his Status Quo bandmate Rick Parfitt speak to him after his death last Christmas Eve (24.12.16).
Parfitt passed away at the age of 68 last December from sepsis a day after being admitted to a Marbella hospital to be treated for an infection affecting a pre-existing shoulder injury.
Now his bandmate Rossi, 68, has claimed that his friend – who he first met when they were both just 16 years old – spoke to him on that fateful day making a joke from beyond the grave that he didn’t die on the same day as a concert.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror newspaper, Rossi said: “I know it sounds ridiculous but I heard him on Christmas Eve. I heard him say to me, ‘See Frame [Francis’ nickname], at least I didn’t die on a show day.’
“He would have known if he died on a show day or a few days before, we would have cancelled the show out of respect.”
Parfitt had stepped away from the ‘Whatever You Want’ band in 2016 after suffering a heart attack on stage in June, six months before his passing.
Rossi did think about calling time on the band once his pal had to step away and especially once he had died, but remembering a conversation he had with Parfitt inspired him to carry on with new guitarist Richie Malone and drummer Leon Cave.
The singer said: “”I was adamant that I was going to stop. I’d had enough. But the guy we have got into the band – Richie Malone – Rick and I first met him when he was probably 14 or 15. Rick said, ‘Look at that, if I die you should get him in’. We both laughed. So I didn’t cry and I haven’t since.
“For me to become maudlin about Rick, that wouldn’t be me.”

The ‘Just The Way You Are’ hitmaker has been announced for next year’s annual music extravaganza in London and will take to The Great Oak Stage on July 14, , fresh off the back of his ’24K Magic World Tour’, which spans over 172 shows across five continents in support of his double platinum album ’24K Magic’.
Bruno, 32, will be joined by special guest, 2017 Best New Artist MTV Video Music Awards winner Khalid, 19.
Speaking about Bruno’s booking, James King – Senior Vice President for AEG Presents – said: “Bruno Mars is unquestionably one of the best live performers of his generation and we’re incredibly excited to have him bring his full production magic to Hyde Park.”
Bruno joins previously announced headliner Roger Waters, who will perform at the sixth annual British Summer Time event on July 6.
Alun Mainwaring, Head of Events, Filming and Commercial Development at The Royal Parks, added: “Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park continues its momentum as the ultimate outdoor event of the summer by announcing another world renowned headliner to appear in this world famous park.

Wretch 32 wants to help Cheryl Tweedy with solo career

OHMYGOSSIP — Wretch 32 would love to work with Cheryl Tweedy to help re-launch her solo career.
The British grime star previously teamed up with the former Girls Aloud singer on her track ‘Screw You’ on 2012 album ‘A Million Lights’ and he recently caught up with Cheryl at the ‘Game 4 Grenfell’ charity soccer match – which raised money for the victims of the Grenfell apartment block fire in London – and he admits he would be very keen to work with her again when she’s ready to return to music.
Cheryl, 34, is currently enjoying some time off from work to look after her seven-month-old son Bear, her first child with boyfriend Liam Payne, 24.
Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, Wretch, 32, said: “I saw her at the fundraiser for Grenfell Tower, we had a good little catch-up and it would be nice to do some work together. I have some ideas as well, I will reach out to her and see how she feels about them.”
The ‘Don’t Go’ hitmaker suggested he wouldn’t necessarily want to appear as a guest star on any potential collaboration, insisting that he’d be happy to just sit down and write with Cheryl.
He added: “If there’s one thing I know it is music, man, and I’m definitely up for it. Even if it’s not a feature but just writing, or working on some fresh ideas for new Cheryl music, I am up for that.”
Last month, Cheryl sparked speculation she might be picking up the microphone again in the near future after quizzing her fans about which songs they liked from her albums, including her last studio record, 2014’s ‘Only Human’, which weren’t released as singles.
She wrote on Twitter: “Yoo hoo can you tweet me the songs from my albums that you think should’ve been singles please (sic)”
Wretch – who released his fourth album ‘FR32’ last Friday (13.10.17) – also had kind words for fellow British rapper Stormzy, who he described as “the Wretch of today”.
He said: “It’s just new blood, when the new kids come through its igniting the fire that was already lit. He is like the Wretch of today, and it spirals around it’s just one of those things.”

Idlewild announce The Remote Part anniversary shows

OHMYGOSSIP — Idlewild have announced two Christmas shows to mark the 15th anniversary of their hit album ‘The Remote Part’.
The Scottish rockers will play the record – their third studio album, which hit number three in the UK charts – in full at two concerts in their home nation at Glasgow’s O2 ABC on December 19 and 20.
In a statement on Facebook, the group wrote: “On December 19th & 20th we’ll be getting festive and celebrating the 15th anniversary of our album ‘The Remote Part’ by playing through it all (and other favourites) at the wonderful O2 ABC Glasgow. (sic)”
The band – made up of Roddy Woomble, Rod Jones, Colin Newton, Luciano Rossi and Andrew Mitchell – also confirmed they will set about working on their eighth studio album, a follow up to 2015’s ‘Everything Ever Written’, after the pair of concerts.
They added: “Then we’ll be getting back to work on finishing recording the new Idlewild album!
“Tickets go on general sale this Friday at 9am, but members of our mailing list can access an exclusive pre-sale from 9am this Wednesday. (sic)”
‘The Remote Part’ spawned four singles, including catchy tune ‘You Held the World in Your Arms’, which appeared on the soundtrack to popular video game ‘FIFA 2003’ and was their only top 10 UK hit.
Last month, Roddy released solo album ‘The Deluder’, and admitted at the time it didn’t mean the end of Idlewild.
He said: “I just came out with quite a lot of songs last year. Idlewild will definitely make another record, there’s no doubt about that – it just depends when. For the time being I found that I had all of these songs that just sit together and that I could do a good job of them on my own.”

Nicki Minaj: My life has come full circle

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicki Minaj’s new album is about her life coming “full circle”.
The 34-year-old rap star has given her fans an insight into what they can expect from her unnamed record, admitting that the process of making the album has felt like a “celebration” to her.
Nicki shared: “Sonically, I know what the album’s about to sound like. I know what this album is gonna mean to my fans.
“This album is everything in my life coming full circle and me being truly, genuinely happy. It feels almost like a celebration.”
The chart-topping star said that her last album, ‘The Pinkprint’, felt like she was “closing the chapter on certain things”.
But Nicki says her latest effort will be markedly different as she’s finally “figured out” who she is.
She told the New York Times newspaper: “The last album [was] almost like my diary, closing the chapter on certain things and not knowing if I was happy or sad about beginning new chapters …
“Now, I can tell you guys what happened for the last two years of my life. I know who I am. I am getting Nicki Minaj figured out with this album and I’m loving her.”
And Nicki says she’s now the most free and excited she’s been as a musician since she started working with a record label.
Nicki – who released ‘The Pinkprint’ back in 2014 – explained: “This is definitely the most inspired and free and excited I’ve been since I started releasing albums through a label.”

Benny Andersson still writes new music everyday

OHMYGOSSIP — Benny Andersson tries to write new music every day.
The 70-year-old ABBA legend – who has penned timeless hits like ‘Thank You For The Music’, ‘Dancing Queen’ and ‘SOS’ – has not lost his creative spark and is always attempting to create fresh songs.
And it is these sessions that inspired his latest album ‘Piano’, on which he re-imagines songs from his acclaimed career, including his hits with ABBA, musical numbers and solo compositions, on the keys.
In an interview with BBC Radio 2, he shared: “I don’t really know why, but when I sit and try to compose, which I do every day, sometimes I get fed up with it. [So] I play anything, I can play anything by anybody else.”
It’s safe to say the songwriter knows what makes a catchy pop song, and he revealed the secret to finding the formula is usually realising it’s a tune that connects with him as much as his audience.
He added: “If they do [resonate with fans], it’s because they draw me in too … I’m sitting there at my piano and nothing happens, and all of a sudden I hear myself play something that talks to me.”
Benny – who was part of ABBA with Agnetha Faltskog, Bjorn Ulvaeus and Anni-Frid Lyngstad – conceded he has a knack for choosing the write bars, and piecing together ideas to create a memorable song, even if it doesn’t happen right away.
He said: “Let’s say I have 8 bars, and that’s not enough. If it doesn’t happen immediately, I’ll keep those 8 bars in my head, and then something will suddenly fit in,” he explained.
Although Benny claims not to keep up with current pop music he has name-checked some of the modern artists whose music he enjoys.
He said: “Adele comes out with this one and the next one … or Lady Gaga has done some great stuff, Katy Perry has made some great records.”

Reading Festival founder Harold Pendleton praised

OHMYGOSSIP — Reading Festival founder Harold Pendleton has been remembered in a touching tribute by Festival Republic boss Melvin Benn.
The music industry legend launched the National Jazz Festival in 1961, and over the years the event continued to evolve into a three-day extravaganza across sites at both Reading and Leeds in the UK.
It was confirmed over the weekend that Pendleton passed away on September 22 aged 93 and Benn has paid his respects to late impresario.
Benn told NME: “I am sad to hear of the passing of Harold Pendleton.
“Having worked together on Reading Festival in the early days, I can truly say that Harold had a lasting impact on our much-loved event, and Reading Festival would not be what it is today without his original vision. His passing is a great loss to us all.”
Meanwhile, his company Entec Sound & Light hailed Pendleton as “a promoter, manager, club owner, publisher, festival owner and innovator”.
A moving statement about the former Marquee Club owner read: “He was at the centre of a unique period in music history, both prompting and witnessing the impacts of the jazz, rock and punk revolutions in the UK and beyond.”
The venue hosted exciting performances from the likes of David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and The Who, as well as the first UK shows by bands such as Metallica and Guns N’ Roses.
Pendleton is survived by his wife Barbara and son Nick, who have called for donations to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution in his memory.

Bananarama learning old dance routines

OHMYGOSSIP — Bananarama have found it “hard work” re-learning their choreography for their upcoming reunion tour.
Sara Dallin and Keren Woodward have reunited with original member Siobhan Fahey for their first tour in almost 30 years, which kicks off in the UK in November.
The trio have been busy in rehearsals and admit it was been tough to recreate their dance routines for the concerts.
Sara told Billboard: “We’ve just started this week with the choreography. What you can remember when you were 20 – it’s not quite the same now. And a lot of the music from the years that Siobhan was in the group is stuff we haven’t done.
“When Keren and I tour we do other songs, the later stuff. So there’s a lot of new stuff for all of us. It’s hard work. I’m kind of panicking, but there’s plenty of time. You have to wait to get into the swing of it.”
Siobhan left the group, which formed in 1981, in 1988, to form Shakespears Sister.
Despite the huge gap since Siobhan was last with the group, the ‘Venus’ trio have been able to pick up their friendship with relative ease.
Sara said: “I guess when you meet someone very young – Karen and I were like 18 when we met [Fahey] – it kind of feels like family. Even if you’ve fallen out and you haven’t seen someone for so long, there is that bond. We just slipped back into friendship again; in the last 10 years we’ve seen each other a couple of times a year. We would hang out and just have a great time, and all the kind of pettiness of youth and trivial stuff falls by the wayside when you get to 50.”
The reunion tour kicks off on November 9 at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Taylor Swift shoots music video at London kebab shop

OHMYGOSSIP — Taylor Swift filmed her latest music video outside a kebab shop in north London.
The 27-year-old pop superstar was joined by 60 crew members, including extras and backing dancers, at the Kentish Delight takeaway in Kentish Town over the weekend to shoot the promo for her next single.
The video is inspired by a night out in the UK capital and reveals what some of Taylor’s favourite things are to do when she comes to London and it will also show her going to a pub and riding a night bus.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “The video shows Taylor on a night out. She has spent months quietly going under the radar in London this year and has been out a lot more than anybody realises.
“It is quite telling that she has been hanging out in these regular and unexpected places. She wants to show people she is just a normal girl.”
The ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ hitmaker – who is dating British actor Joe Alwyn – filmed the video between 9pm and 6am to minimise the chance of any leaks or footage being filmed by onlookers.
The single will precede Taylor’s sixth album, ‘Reputation’, comes out in November.
The singer held a secret listening party for the LP in London over the weekend, inviting a number of her fans via Twitter.

Sam Smith ‘craves’ being on stage

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Smith “craves” the feeling of performing on stage.
The ‘Money On My Mind’ hitmaker loves fame when it is all about the music but admits that otherwise it is going to become the “bane of his life”.
He said: “I think all people who want to perform in front of thousands are super-insecure – and I crave that feeling … When it’s about the music, I’m fully in there and I love the fame.
“I think it will be the bane of my life if this all carries on. But I don’t read reviews; I’m just staying away from the negative side of stuff.”
And the 25-year-old singer admits it was “tough” releasing his latest single, ‘Too Good At Goodbyes’, his first off his upcoming album ‘The Thrill Of It All’, because of the success of his debut LP ‘In The Lonely Hour’.
He told Italy’s Vogue magazine: “Releasing the first single from my second album after In The Lonely Hour is a tough thing to do. That album did f***ing well! That scared me!”
It comes after Sam admitted he is “very self-conscious” about his voice, more so than ever.
He shared: “Oh, I’m very self-conscious about my singing voice, always have been … Absolutely! Now more than ever! Even when I’m singing in the studio, I will study people’s faces afterward to see if I’ve done a good enough job.”
Whilst Sam is a “happy” person in general, he likes to “let out his sadness” through his songwriting.
He added: “Oh, but I’m a happy person! Well, most of the time. But I tend to keep that for me and my family. It’s when I go into the studio that I let out my sadness. I find it easier writing sad songs than I do happy ones. [The new album] is bleak. It’s not a happy record.”

The 28-year-old singer and Kelly, 50, have teamed up for the track ‘Juice Booty’, which also features Jhené Aiko.

He said: “I thought ‘Heartbreak On a Full Moon’ was a depiction of what my soul wanted to say. It’s funny because we’re doing a double album. I’ve done so many records, but all of the records, to me, are personal favorites and I feel like it gets what I want to say across. It gives a vibe. Ringo Starr’s ‘important’ session tapes search

OHMYGOSSIP — Ringo Starr is scouring old session tapes to see if he can find any “important” material.
The Beatles legend recently recorded a new version of his 1972 hit ‘Back Off Boogaloo’ after discovering old tapes, and has admitted he has been re-listening to the music to see if there are any other hidden gems out there.
When asked if there might be more from where ‘Back Off Boogaloo’ came from, he replied: “You never know.
“We just got lucky with that one. I’m going through a lot of tape and we’re looking to see if anything else is on them. So far, we haven’t found anything as important as that, but I might find something else on there.”
The 77-year-old star admitted he will miss his late, great pal Tom Petty – who passed away earlier this month at the age of 66 – but was glad he got to known him better through the ‘Free Fallin” hitmaker’s work with Ringo’s late bandmate George Harrison in Traveling Wilburys.
He said: “I’ll miss Tom. Tom was a good friend. I played with Tom, Tom Played with me. I got to know him over the years, really got to know him when he was in the Wilburys because of George.
“All through my career we’ve lost really great friends, and people who aren’t my friends, but were great musicians and writers. In our business we’ve lost them very young as well. But overall there’s still a lot of us out there doing what we do.”
Ringo – who appeared in Tom’s ‘I Won’t Back Down’ video in 1989 – felt as though he did when he’d heard Elvis Presley had died when he was told the tragic news about Tom.
He added to Billboard: “It was a shock. When you first hear it, it’s like, ‘What…?!’ Like when I heard Elvis was dead; It’s like, ‘What?!’ It has to sink in. It was very sad. That’s all I can say, really. God Bless him and his family.”
