Paloma Faith to release memoir

OHMYGOSSIP — Paloma Faith will release a new memoir.
The 42-year-old musician has penned a deeply personal book ‘MILF’, delving “deep into the issues that face women today, from battling through the expectations of patriarchy to the Supermum myth”.
In the memoir, Paloma also writes about the challenges of in vitro fertilisation (IVF), the early years of motherhood and “questions around identity and how motherhood impacts on that, to what it even means to be a ‘good mother’, how we need to embrace messiness, imperfection and the bitter sweet pleasures of being ‘selfish’ and putting ourselves first”.
According to publisher Happy Place, ‘MILF’ “explores female identity and is part memoir, part polemic.
“Honest, raw, wickedly funny and brilliantly poignant, ‘MILF’ is a powerful call-to-arms for any woman who has been sold the promise that they can ‘have it all’ but finds themselves overwhelmed by having to do it all. Paloma refuses to shy away from any aspect of motherhood. With her characteristic straight talking, in ‘MILF’, she says everything most of us are too afraid to say.”
Paloma commented: “This is a book designed to make women feel seen and acknowledged for what they do, something I don’t think happens enough. It’s about our silent mental load, our battle to do it all just to remain at pace with everything else going on around us. It’s a book about verbalising the fact that women are superheroes and should not, and will not, remain silent any longer about our contributions to society against all odds (of which there are a lot). It’s about making women feel seen and men hopefully that little bit more informed. Feminism has let us down and abandoned us with too much to do and we no longer should have to face inevitable burn-out as a result.”
Publishing director Charlotte Hardman added: “I devoured every word of the script, nodding along furiously in agreement. Paloma brilliantly unpacks what it is like to be a mother without being defined by being a mother.”

Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing named biggest song of all time

OHMYGOSSIP — Journey‘s ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ has been named the biggest song of all time by Forbes.
The 1981 track – which appeared on Journey’s seventh studio LP ‘Escape’ – has gone 18 times platinum and officially become the biggest song in the history of music.
Journey’s founding member and lead guitarist Neal Schon wrote on X: “We now officially have the biggest song in the world ever in the history of music! Congratulations to all.”
Former Journey frontman Steve Perry celebrated the achievement on Instagram with a heartfelt post.
He wrote: “When this “’Don’t Stop Believin’ ,’The Biggest Song of ALL Time’ article came out I was so emotionally stunned.
“To be part of such a moment as this made me reflect on my parents. By that I mean, though I lost them both years ago, I was so happy for them because they are truly the reason this is happening. My dad was a singer and both of them were very musical. So on behalf of my Mom and Dad, I thank every one of you for so many years of support. -Sincerely, Steve Perry.”
And, Neal commented on Steve’s post, saying: “That’s great Steve. God Bless. I myself reflect on the great time we had writing this song. Respectfully Neal Schon.”

Beth Ditto had never heard of Rihanna’s Umbrella until two fans sang it in the rain at Glastonbury

OHMYGOSSIP — Beth Ditto had never heard of Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’ until she heard Jessie Ware singing it during a rain storm.
The 43-year-old singer was performing alongside her Gossip bandmates at the Glastonbury festival in 2007 around the time that Rihanna was dominating the charts around the world with her signature hit but had no clue when she heard a then-unknown Jessie singing the infamous ‘ella, ella, ella’ hook in the audience during a rainstorm that it was a real song.
Speaking on the ‘Table Manners’ podcast, she told ‘Free Yourself’ hitmaker Jessie and her mother Lennie Ware: “I did not realise that was you, and in my memory, the first time I’d ever heard the song ‘Umbrella’ was you and your friend. I remember the two of you, your haircut…everybody did it because you had an umbrella.
“It’s such a core memory for me because I remember that day that these two girls walked up to me, I remember y’all singing ‘Umbrella, ella, ella’ and I was thinking ‘These girls are singing a hit!’ I did not know it was a Rihanna song, I thought you made it up!”
The ‘Heavy Cross’ rocker admitted that she has tried to tell the story so many times over the years and always remembered that Jessie – who has since gone on to a pop career herself – had been singing it in the rain all those years ago.
“I’d never even heard that song, it doesn’t sound that song crazy when I tell you. I’ve tried to retell that story. I thought two girls made it up in the rain and then I was like ‘Oh my God, that was you!’ I thought you wrote ‘Umbrella’.

AC/DC’s Bon Scott movie won’t be biopic

OHMYGOSSIP — The new film about AC/DC’s Bon Scott won’t be a biopic.
While ‘The Kid From Harvest Road’ will be set in the 1960s, during the late musician’s coming-of-age years, producers have insisted it won’t be a strict retelling of his life.
HALO Films said in a statement: “The producers behind ‘The Kid From Harvest Road’ are incredibly humbled and grateful for the overwhelming media attention the recent announcement of the film’s development has garnered. The enthusiasm and support from audiences and media outlets alike reaffirm the belief in the power of storytelling.
“However, they are at pains to express that ‘The Kid From Harvest Road’ is a project that aims to capture the essence of Bon Scott’s early life in Fremantle in a fictionalised narrative set in the 1960s. By drawing inspiration from the stories and atmosphere of the time period, rather than attempting a biopic, the film can offer a more imaginative exploration of Scott’s character and experiences.
“Focusing on his formative years in Fremantle allows for a deeper dive into the influences and events that shaped him as a person and ultimately as the iconic frontman of AC/DC. It also provides an opportunity to explore the cultural landscape of the time, including the burgeoning music scene and social dynamics of the era.”
Lee Tiger Halley will play Scott in the movie, written by Stephen Belowsky and co-writer/director David Vincent Smith.
Tim Duffy will produce with Ian Hale and Nicko Mezzino executive producing for HALO Films and Protocol Pictures, respectively.
Scott was AC/DC’s frontman from 1974 until his death in 1980.

Normani announces new solo single

OHMYGOSSIP — Normani has announced her new single ‘1:59’ will drop on April 26.
The former Fifth Harmony star recently teased fans that her debut solo album ‘Dopamine’ is on the way and she has now announced that the project’s first single will feature rapper Gunna and will be out next month.
Normani shared a video on TikTok announcing the single.
In the video, fans can hear a snipped of the song as Normani lip-syncs the lyrics.
She captioned the post: “soo basically my first single 1:59 will be coming out 4/26.”
And Normani has promised fans that the new music will be worth the wait.
She told Who What Wear in February: “I know what I’ve been through. For me, this upcoming album is not just about music coming out. It feels like a representation of everything I’ve gone through to get to this moment… I know I needed time, experiences, and space coming out of [Fifth Harmony] in order to become the version of myself I needed to be. Without [all of that], I would not be able to exist within the creative space that I am in now. I would not be able to make the type of music I’m making now.”
Fifth Harmony split in 2018 and Normani released her first solo single, ‘Motivation’ in August 2019.
She went on to release songs including ‘Diamonds,’ ‘Bad to You,’ ‘Wild Side,’ ‘Fair,’ and ‘New to You’ but ‘Dopamine’ will be her debut solo album.

The Who legend Roger Daltrey announces ‘mostly acoustic’ solo tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Roger Daltrey has announced a “mostly acoustic” solo tour this summer.
The Who frontman has promised “surprises” when he hits the road in June 2024 for nine dates across the United States.
A statement on the band’s official Instagram account confirmed: “Roger Daltrey will be returning to the States on a special solo tour this June, presenting a mostly acoustic set of Who gems, rarities, solo nuggets and other surprises with an intimate rock-based band and setting as well as answering questions from the audience.”
He will be joined on stage by guitarists Simon Townshend and Doug Boyle, bassist John Hogg, violinist Katie Jacoby, harmonica player Steve Weston, keyboardist Geraint Watkins, drummer Scott Devours, percussionist Jody Linscott and mandolin player Billy Nicholls.
Special guests on the tour include ‘Suddenly I See’ hitmaker KT Tunstall and singer-songwriter Dan Bern.
The statement continuned: “The unique venues and amphitheaters Daltrey has chosen for his summer run will showcase Roger’s acoustic interpretations of his extraordinary canon of Who songs and solo work.”
The tour kicks off in Vienna, Virginia on June 12, before he rolls into Niagara Falls two days later.
The ‘Pinball Wizard’ icon and his group will then move onto shows in Bethel, Port Chester, Boston, Lenox, Detroit and Indianapolis before the run comes to an end in Highland Park.
Earlier this year, Roger reflected on The Who and insisted he is “happy” to be moving on.
He told The Times newspaper: “I can’t answer that. I don’t write the songs. I never did.
“We [he and Townshend] need to sit down and have a meeting, but at the moment I’m happy saying that part of my life is over.”
Late last year, his bandmate Pete revealed the group would have a chat about their next move, with their most recent gig being at Sandringham Estate last summer.
Speaking to Record Collector magazine: “I think it’s time for Roger and I to go to lunch and have a chat about what happens next.
“Because Sandringham shouldn’t feel like the end of anything but it feels like the end of an era.
“It’s a question of, really, what is feasible, what would be lucrative, what would be fun? So, I wrote to Roger and said, come on, let’s have a chat and see what’s there.”

‘How did I get to joy?’ Jon Bon Jovi worked through ‘a lot of dark misery’ to complete latest album

OHMYGOSSIP — Jon Bon Jovi had to work through “a lot of dark misery” to complete his band’s new album.
The 62-year-old singer’s group Bon Jovi recently announced their 16th studio album, ‘Forever’, will drop on June 7th, and the frontman has told how he had to navigate some tough times to get to the album’s main theme of “joy”.
He told Ultimate Classic Rock magazine: “The overarching sentiment of this album is that of joy.
“How did I get to joy? I had to work through a lot of dark misery!
“Our last record, which was called ‘2020’, was a lot of observations and narratives about what was going on in the world around us – whether it was the COVID crises or George Floyd, shootings in schools, soldiers with PTSD.”
Jon recently admitted he isn’t sure if he will be able to tour again after undergoing surgery in 2022.
He underwent a procedure known as medialisation after one of his vocal cords was found to be atrophying.
Speaking in an interview with Mix 104.1 Boston, he said: “I don’t know about a tour. It is my desire to do a tour next year, but I’m just still recovering from a major surgery.
“Although I’m well on the road to recovery and was able to take my time and do a song a day when I made the record, my need, want, desire is to be able to do two-and-a-half hours a night four nights a week for months on end.”
Jon also recently revealed new single ‘Legendary’ is a tribute to his wife Dorothea, who he has been married to since 1989.
He said: “The brown-eyed girl, which of course is a Van Morrison nod, but not in this instance. It’s my wife.
“She has been there faithfully throughout this process: ‘And the brown-eyed girl/ She believes in me / Legendary.’ There it is. That’s who and what I am at 62 years old.”

Ariana Grande has had an ’emotional’ time since dropping eternal sunshine

OHMYGOSSIP — Ariana Grande has had an “emotional” time since sharing her chart-topping album, ‘eternal sunshine’.
The ‘yes, and?’ hitmaker released the collection earlier this month and has admitted letting the world hear her raw and deeply personal lyrics has “re-opened a lot of little and big feelings alike”, so she has appreciated the “overwhelmingly loving response” to the songs.
She wrote on Instagram: “i know i have been posting so much (i feel self conscious about that / also would like to keep going / thanking / celebrating !) but i just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart..
it’s impossible to put into words what i’ve been feeling this week. this album is most special to me for many reasons and just holds so much. sharing it has re-opened a lot of little and big feelings alike and it has been an emotional week in many ways !… but your overwhelmingly loving response to it all has made me feel such joyful, human connection and comfort.
just wanted to say i love and appreciate you all more than one can say and thank you again. it is, as it always has been, my greatest honor to grow with you… let us promise to keep going ! (sic)”
The follow-up to 2020’s ‘Positions’ topped the charts in the US and UK.
The ‘Thank U, Next’ hitmaker hadn’t planned to release the new album until after her pair of ‘Wicked’ films were out.
She explained in a recent interview on ‘The Zach Sang Show’: “I did not plan to [make new music now]. I didn’t have the goal to make an album.
“I actually was really opposed to coming out with music until after Wicked, either both parts or just one part. I wasn’t sure how I would feel.”
‘Wicked’ – in which Ariana stars as Glinda – is released in November, and ‘Wicked Part Two’ is scheduled for release next year.

YUNGBLUD teases ‘positive’ new album after singing about darkness

OHMYGOSSIP — YUNGBLUD’s new album encapsulates the “invincible” feeling he gets when he listens to the likes of Oasis, The Verve, David Bowie and Amy Winehouse.
The ‘Fleabag’ rocker has teased what fans can expect from his follow-up to his 2022 self-titled LP, which marks a new chapter and sees him move away from “darkness” and into the light.
He explained in an interview with NME: “It’s been made in England. It’s been made in the North, and I flip the narrative where I’ve sung about darkness. This album is the light. It’s all about getting through it; it’s positive. It’s that thing in your stomach when you listen to Oasis, or The Verve, or Bowie, or Suede, or Madonna. It makes me feel like I can get up today. It makes me feel like I’m invincible and that I can do anything – that’s what this new album sounds like.
“Stone Roses, Amy Winehouse – everything that has fundamentally done work on my soul. Everything up to now has been about your heart and your head and making sure that I’m educated, that I use my voice. That I speak from the heart, meet people, be loud, be bratty, be unapologetic, be crazy. This is [me asking] ‘What does my soul want to say? What do I feel in my fingertips when you stick on [Oasis’] ‘Live Forever’, [The Verve’s] ‘Valium Skies’ or [Primal Scream‘s] ‘Screamadelica’?
“It’ll be a great ‘Urban Hymns’ or ’Screamadelica’. I know the old dudes are going to leather me in the comments for that but I don’t give a f*** because I’m going to go there. If you listen to it, then it’s that from a new perspective.”
The musician locked himself away in a studio and “shut the world out” so he could just “feel” without any outside influences.
Comparing the record to famous concept albums, he said: “It’s a ’Tommy’, it’s a ‘Quadrophenia’ [The Who]. It’s ‘A Night At The Opera’ [Queen]. It’s a ‘Black Parade’ [My Chemical Romance]. It’s an ‘Urban Hymns’. It’s a thing that’s intended to be listened to from start to finish, and it’s pushed me harder and made me gut myself harder than anything before.
“We locked ourselves in a studio in Leeds and just felt. We shut the world out instead of asking, ‘What’s popping on this?’ ‘What’s the state of art’ or whatever. F*** that. Could this album have been written 50 years ago? Could this album be written in 50 years’ time? It just is.”
The ‘Funeral’ singer was speaking to promote his upcoming alternative music festival, BLUDFEST, which takes place at Milton Keynes Bowl on August 11.
The all-dayer will feature performances from Atlanta rapper and YUNGBLUD’s collaborator Lil Yachty, rock duo SOFT PLAY, rising star Nessa Barrett, pop star Lola Young and alt-pop star Jazmin Bean.
Punk rock legends The Damned have been chosen to play the icon slot, like Glastonbury’s Sunday afternoon legends slot.
Tickets will go on sale at 10am on March 22 and will be priced at £49.50 plus fees. Head to bludfest.com for all the information.

‘Don’t be ignorant and stupid all the time’: Wizkid wants people to stop calling him an Afrobeats artist

OHMYGOSSIP — Wizkid has requested people stop referring to him as an Afrobeats artist.
The Nigerian singer – whose real name is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun – says he is wrongly labelled as an Afrobeats artist and said his 2020 album ‘Made In Lagos’ offered a “fusion of different sounds”.
The 33-year-old star – who also teased his upcoming album ‘Morayo’ is “done” – says those who refer to all African artists as Afrobeats need to “educate” themselves.
He wrote in a statement on his Instagram Story: “You lost people always want someone to educate you. You got your phone, Google [and] research s*** or take a flight and see the world. Don’t be ignorant and stupid all the time. Listen, am I African? Yes! But I do make all sorts of music. Fine music! But I don’t want [to be] labeled just Afrobeats. That’s like like saying every American artiste makes rap. That’s stupid.
“This is why no matter how good or amazing the music we make – [albeit] R’n’B or whatever other genre, we all get nominated in one Africa category or the other. I’ve made songs from different genres of music. ‘Made In Lagos’ is not an ‘Afrobeats’ album. That’s a fusion of different sounds. Real music! The word ‘Afrobeats’ was made up by y’all to put all we [Africans] make in one box. [Legendary afro-pop pioneer] Fela [Kuti] created Afrobeat!! I make all sorts of music. [A] fusion of sounds!
“I’m a artiste” before anything else.. True to my art
“Not scared to try s***.
“No y’all drink some milk. (sic)”

Ariana Grande’s grandmother makes chart history

OHMYGOSSIP — Ariana Grande’s 98-year-old grandmother has become the oldest person ever to score a hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The pop star listed her “Nonna” Majorie Grande as a singer and a writer on her new track ‘Ordinary things’ which features on her latest album ‘Eternal Sunshine’ – and it means she’s made history after the song entered the run-down at number 55.
The feat has made Majorie the most senior person to ever feature on the chart since it was founded in 1958.
Billboard reports she has taken over the record from late songwriter Fred Stobaugh, who was 96 when his song ‘Oh Sweet Lorraine’ charted on the Hot 100 at number 42 back in 2013. Stobaugh passed away three years later.
On ‘Ordinary things’, Majorie is heard talking about her late husband Frank and giving relationship advice. She is heard saying: “And when he’d come home and I’d see him, And when he’d come home and I’d see him, when he first gets off that train.
“It was like God almighty arrived. It was like seein’ daylight. I mean, I could’ve packed up and left a million times. You know? It’s not that we never fought. You can overcome that.
“You know? It’s very easy. And as I told her, never go to bed without kissin’ goodnight. That’s the worst thing to do, don’t ever, ever do that. And if you can’t, and if you don’t feel comfortable doing it. You’re in the wrong place, get out.”
Ariana previously opened up about her decision to feature Majorie on the song during an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music 1, revealing she was searching for a way to close the album and she struck gold when listening to one of her nonna’s voice notes.
She explained: “I knew ‘Ordinary things’ was the end of the album. I was like, ‘This is the last song, but I wonder how I can put that button on it and have it land emotionally the way that I feel it can, and how can I answer the question?’ … [The answer was] right smack in the middle [of the voice] note.”
The singer added: “I always record my Nonna because you never know what she’s going to say. I had this 30-minute voice note of her and her friend Shirley talking …
“I think it’s a little bit of, ‘Wow, our loved ones, our friends and our family have the ability to instantly just sort of soothe and calm and simplify things that are so complicated and heavy at times’.”

James Blunt ‘humiliated’ by AI’s impression of his lyrics

OHMYGOSSIP — James Blunt has been “humiliated” by AI versions of his own lyrics.
The ‘You’re Beautiful’ hitmaker has been experimenting with artificial intelligence out of curiosity, but he was mortified by how “generic” the AI’s creation was of lyrics in his own style.
He told the ‘I Never Thought It Would Happen’ podcast: “Every single one of us must have, having heard of [AI], typed in and then written ‘Give me a verse based on this, in the style of, in my case, a James Blunt lyric’.
“The truth is, either AI comes up with something very, very generic or my lyrics are just absolutely mundane.
“So AI has totally humiliated me whenever I’ve gone and asked it to impersonate myself. It’s taught me, if anything, not to use AI and [I] must do better.”
James, who can be incredibly self deprecating on social media and in interviews, did weigh in on the importance of seeing people’s “flaws” and “mistakes” in music to gives songs “character”.
He explained: “The thing about songwriting and music generally is, it is your flaws and your failings and your mistakes which make it have character.
“Character is something that is not formulaic or generic and even if I have written something before and I say ‘Let me write it in the style of me again,’ it will be boring to myself, I need to go out and test myself and push myself to do something different.
“And some of those things I would make by mistake and I don’t think AI can do that yet. I don’t think it can bring in true character flaws and mistakes at this stage.”
James recently opened up about writing ‘You’re Beautiful’ – his chart topping ballad focusing on a man accepting that his love for another woman will always be unrequited – and revealed it was based on a true story.
He told the Metro newspaper’s Rush Hour Crush column: “It’s a true story. She was an ex. She was with her new boyfriend – I didn’t know that he existed. But we walked past each other, we caught each other’s eye.”
He added: “We lived a lifetime in that moment but I didn’t do anything about it. I just went home and wrote a song about it and got a house out of it – the whole thing. So, I’m happy for them.”

The ‘vampire’ hitmaker teamed up with her pal Jack White to release the vinyl via his Third Man Records.

The former White Stripes star, 48, told the ‘Bad Idea Right?’ singer that her “only job” is to write radio-worthy music.
In an interview with The New York Times, Olivia said: “He wrote me this letter the first time I met him that said, ‘Your only job is to write music that you would want to hear on the radio.
“I mean, writing songs that you would like to hear on the radio is in fact very hard.”
Meanwhile, the 21-year-old star confessed she “felt immense pressure” making the follow-up to her record-breaking 2021 debut LP ‘SOUR’.
Speaking on Hits Radio Breakfast, she said: “Making this album definitely had its ups and downs. “And there were some days where I’m just like, wow, the pressure is just insurmountable. I just feel, I don’t know what I’m gonna do, and other days where it was really fun and, you know, had a great time.
“But uh, you know, I think at the end of the day, the most important thing, it sounds like so cheesy and cliché, but I just wanted to make an album that I really liked and felt really proud of.”
