Sabrina Bryan hoping for Cheetah Girls reunion

OHMYGOSSIP — Sabrina Bryan is hoping to get the Cheetah Girls back together for a reunion.
The girl group featured Bryan alongside Raven-Symone, Adrienne Bailon-Houghton and Kiely Williams and were launched with a self-titled movie in 2003 before going on to record together as a band a year later with the singers eventually releasing two albums and three soundtrack records which accompanied their three films and heading out on three tours before disbanding in 2008.
Now Sabrina has revealed she would love to get the group back together but thinks a film project is more likely than an album or a gig. During an appearance on Cheryl Burke’s ‘Sex, Lies and Spray Tans’ podcast, she explained: “The Cheetah Girls would most likely do a movie. I feel like there’s hints out there that there’s something going on. [I would] really love to do a reunion show …
“I would love to get on a stage and kill it again with my girls. We were so many girls’ first concert back in the day, and I would love to go and reenact our stage work.”
She then added a reunion show should be for all the young girls who attended their previous concerts who are now grown up, adding they could now bring their own kids along. Bryan said: ““I’m not sure if that will ever happen. I would be 100 per cent down if that ever came up.”
Bryan added of a reunion possibility: “Actually, rumblings and steps, I think, are starting to possibly happen. Nothing’s been green lit. I don’t think, not yet.”

Dua Lipa was rejected from her school choir

OHMYGOSSIP — Dua Lipa was once cut from her school choir because she couldn’t deliver a “crazy high note”.
The ‘Training Season’ singer was left red-faced when her audition fell flat in front of the “whole school”, however she was later welcomed back to join the “lower range” section of the choir.
Appearing on Trixie Mattel’s YouTube channel, she recalled: “The music teacher was like—it was an assembly—‘Alright, who wants to sing and try out for the choir?’
“I went, ‘Y’know what? I’d like to actually do that.’ So, I decided to stand up for the whole school, and he started playing on the piano. It was in this crazy high note, and nothing came out—just air. And the whole school started laughing.
“And he was like, ‘You know what? Better luck next time.’ That was it.”
She continued: “Later on, I was part of the choir, but I was in the lower range.”
The pop star credits her theatre schoolteacher with transforming her into the confident singer she is today.
Dua added: “I went to singing lessons in a theatre school every Saturday in London and it was the teacher there that helped me build up my confidence.”
This June, Dua will headline Glastonbury festival for the first time.
The ‘Levitating’ hitmaker has her third album ‘Radical Optimism’ coming out on May 3, a few weeks before the festival.
She said in a statement: “A couple of years ago, a friend introduced me to the term ‘Radical Optimism’.
“It’s a concept that resonated with me, and I became more curious as I started to play with it and weave it into my life.
“It struck me – the idea of going through chaos gracefully and feeling like you can weather any storm.
“At the same time, I found myself looking through the music history of psychedelia, trip-hop, and Britpop. It has always felt so confidently optimistic to me, and that honesty and attitude is a feeling I took into my recording sessions.”
The album cover sees Dua in the ocean as a shark swims nearby.
Tracks on the record – which is the follow-up to 2020’s ‘Future Nostalgia’ – include ‘French Exit’, ‘Maria’, and ‘Falling Forever’, as well as the previously released singles ‘Houdini’ and ‘Training Season’.
Dua previously explained her new record “captures a period of major changes in her life, including the end of a relationship and her forays into dating.”
She told Rolling Stone magazine: “This record feels a bit more raw.
“I want to capture the essence of youth and freedom and having fun and just letting things happen, whether it’s good or bad. You can’t change it. You just have to roll with the punches of whatever’s happening in your life.”

Styx bassist Ricky Phillips departs hard rock band after 21-year tenure

OHMYGOSSIP — Longtime Styx bassist Ricky Phillips has departed the American hard rock band.
The 71-year-old musician split duties with original bassist Chuck Panozzo for 21 years but has decided to take a break from the road to focus on a studio project close to home.
In a statement, Ricky said: “Dear Friends, after touring for 50 years with The Babys, Bad English, opening for Tina Turner (on the Private Dancer tour with John Parr), Belinda Carlisle’s first solo tour, rehearsing in Tahoe and recording at Little Mountain in Canada with Jimmy Page and David Coverdale and writing, touring, and co-producing 10/10 with Ronnie Montrose, to name a chosen few…I’m taking a breather.
“My last 20+ years of touring and recording with my friends in Styx has come to an end. I am taking a break from the road. I’m not retiring, just taking a break. Presently, I have accepted an offer to co-produce a project in a studio close to home. I’ve known since I was a kid that live performance is in my blood so, in time I will post any future engagements or commitments. But for right now, Melissa and I will share coffee talk and meals from home…with our critters close by.
“Of course, I will always cherish the adventurous days recording and touring with Styx. And I will truly miss the wonderfully-crazy and faithful Styx fans…whose smiling faces I often saw more than my own family.
“Peace be with you all… and Happy Trails, Ricky. (sic).”
The rest of the band said: “It was a joy to spend two decades with Ricky Phillips in Styx and we wish him all the best in his next adventure. He’ll always be a part of the Styx family and we’ll miss his presence on our stage and in our touring lives. With all our love, The Styx Family.”
Ricky contributed to four Styx albums, the most recent being 2021’s ‘Crash of the Crown’.
He worked with Led Zeppelin legend Jimmy Page and David Coverdale on their 1993 ‘Coverdale/Page’ LP.
The bass player and his former Bad English bandmate Neal Schon also played with former Montrose members Sammy Hagar and Denny Carmassi on a live version of the Montrose song ‘Rock Candy’.
And he worked with hard rock guitarist Ted Nugent on his 1986 solo project ‘Little Miss Dangerous’.

The 50-year-old songwriter said of the upcoming LP, due out on July 12: “L.A. Times is our most personal album since The Man Who. ‘L.A. Times’ is available digitally, on CD and vinyl. The album is also available as a limited deluxe 2CD package which includes a stripped-back version of the L.A. Times album, recorded between Dougie Payne’s Living Room, Glasgow, and Fran Healy’s Living Room, L.A.

Camila Cabello laughs off comparisons to Charli XCX

OHMYGOSSIP — Camila Cabello admits it’s “a huge compliment” to have her song ‘I Luv It’ compared to Charli XCX’s ‘I Love it’.
Fans have only heard a snippet of the ‘Havana’ hitmaker’s upcoming single, but some have said it sounds like Charli’s 2012 hit with Icona Pop.
Former Fifth Harmony star Camila, 27, insists she and Charli, 31, are good friends so she insists there would never be any beef between them.
Speaking to PAPER magazine, she laughed: “I love Charli and I love Charli’s music, so I think [comparing us is] a huge compliment.
“Charli loves me, so everybody can **** off.”
Elsewhere, Camila teased the “hyper-femme” persona that she tapped into for her upcoming fourth studio album, which is out this summer.
She said: “Six months [into recording], we had a couple songs and [I realised], Oh, this is a character.
“It became a persona that I was tapping into, which was me, but definitely a hyper-femme version of me. [I started to ask:] What are the colour palettes of the world this character inhabits? What’s her hair? What’s photography like there?”
The follow-up to 2022’s ‘Familia’ is rap influenced.
Jasper Harris – who is best known for his work with Tate McCrae, Jack Harlow and Baby Keem – worked on the beats with Camila and told the publication: “We were deeply influenced by rap.
“We wanted to see how we could take these cadences that have a certain swagger and contrast it with beautiful music and pretty chords and lush guitar. We were mixing and matching to find something new and inspiring. If it’s a sweet melody, let’s make the music scary. If she has a rap flow, let’s make the music acoustic.”

Wes Nelson had to work to prove himself

OHMYGOSSIP — Wes Nelson found it “tough” to “prove” himself in the music industry.
The 26-year-old star shot to fame when he took part in ‘Love Island’ in 2018 and he admitted he’s had to push himself with his music to shed his reality TV background, but he thinks his music speaks for itself.
He told MailOnline: “It’s not easy, but at the same time, it’s nothing that I can control. I think if you are putting good music out and you get the response and get the numbers, that’s what people sort of accept as your career path.
“I think you can’t really shout it from the rooftops, “oh I’m an artist now”. You have to prove it.
“We have done that now, and obviously with my tour, and people are really turning up and really streaming music day after day. So it’s been tough in a sense.”
The ‘Abracadabra’ singer is to embark on his first European tour in May and he is “buzzing” for the chance to connect with fans.
He said: “I’m double excited. I’ve never done headline shows in Europe. So it’s going to be my first time being able to sort of go out to the European fans and really connect with them. So yeah, I’m buzzing.”
Meanwhile, Wes was delighted after a blind test via a scented billboard in London found 74% of men favoured new Lynx Black Vanilla – one of the scents from the brand’s Fine Fragrance Collection – over Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, which, with a price tag of £294 retails at £289 more than the wallet-friendly scent.
He said: “The fact that Lynx outperformed a luxury brand in a blind scent test is wild.
“I’ve spent more money than I’d like to admit on various fragrances, so I wanted to get involved and spread the word that Lynx have made a luxury scent at a price point that makes it accessible to everyone.
“I don’t think luxury is about the price tag, and this new scent proves that.”
Lynx’s Fine Fragrance Collection features five scents, Black Vanilla, Blue Lavender, Aqua Bergamot, Emerald Sage and Copper Santal, with each crafted to smell as fine as a cologne, with the protection of a deodorant.

Robbie Williams’ dance Lufthaus to play at Creamfields festival

OHMYGOSSIP — Robbie Williams is to debut his dance act Lufthaus at the Creamfields festival this summer.
The Take That star created the band with Flynn Francis and Tim Metcalfe during the COVID-19 pandemic to celebrate their love of Berlin’s electronic music scene and the time they all spent on the dancefloor in nightclubs and they released their debut album ‘Visions Volume 1’ last year’ – and now they are set to perform live at a UK festival for the first time with a set at the dance event in Cheshire in August.
A statement released by the festival revealed: “Just Announced! A UK debut for Lufthaus, a brand-new electronic group of Robbie Williams, Tim Metcalfe and Flynn Francis, will be playing a very special set on Arc stage at Creamfields 2024, Sunday 25th August!”
The band will perform in the sunset slot on the Arc stage on the closing day of the festival. Other acts on the line-up include Calvin Harris, Tiesto, Eric Prydz, Martin Garrix, Fatboy Slim and Example.
Announcing his dance act’s album last year, Robbie explained the project has been a labour of love for the trio. He said in a statement: “This isn’t just a collection of songs.
“It’s our heart, our soul and our vision for what electronic music can be. With Flynn and Tim by my side, we’ve embarked on a musical journey that we’re eager to share with the world.”
Francis said of the record: “We had a lot of fun making this album, and I think that translates in the music. Each track is a sonic chapter in our journey, reflecting the evolution of our friendship and our collective experiences within electronic music.”
Tim added: “Every track on ‘Visions Volume 1’ tells a story, a memory, an emotion.”
Creamfields runs from August 22-25 in Daresbury, Cheshire.

Elbow ‘gutted’ to miss out on number one slot

OHMYGOSSIP — Elbow were “gutted” when their last album failed to reach number one.
The ‘Grounds for Divorce’ group released their ninth LP ‘Flying Dream 1’ in 2021 but it failed to follow their previous three efforts in hitting the top spot, only getting as high as number seven in the album charts, and though they were disappointed, they acknowledged it was a “very different” record to appeal commercially, and they also faced stiff competition.
Singer Guy Garvey admitted to The Sun newspaper: “Yes, we were gutted. We were super proud of it but it’s a very different album and it came out on the same day as Adele’s album.
“It’s very difficult to place in a live set or get radio space. I think the only way you could perform it is in its entirety, which we might do.”
The group are now back with a more upbeat album, ‘Audio Vertigo’, and the 50-year-old singer deliberately steered away from writing songs about the “troubling” issues in the world.
He said: “We live in a troubling age. And I started writing my feelings on many issues but I thought, not only do I not want to finish this, but I also don’t want to listen to it.
“Everybody’s on the same page in terms of fear and division and whatever side of whatever argument you’re on, everyone’s frightened and angry. The album is distracting from, rather than reflecting all the things that everybody is worried about.
After celebrating his milestone birthday last month, Guy has reflected on his career so far and set some new goals for himself.
He said: “A lot of blokes hit 50 and go, What haven’t I done? But I feel quite fulfilled in that department.
“I’d like to make another solo album as I rushed the first one. So I’m probably going to take my time and see if I can work with some people that I’ve always wanted to work with. I really want to do a duet with Alison Moyet.”
And the singer joked touring will be harder now he’s in his 50s.
Asked what their next tour will be like, he joked: “Controlling my booze consumption worries me far more than the performances. And also sleeping on tour buses with our 50-year-old bodies — I might need a back crack after a few days.
“No, we are buzzing. These are really exciting songs and we can’t wait to play them live. We haven’t played for a year and a half, so playing the old stuff, will be something too. We just can’t wait.”

Shakira drops Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran and fantasy music video with Lucien Laviscount

OHMYGOSSIP — Shakira has released her first album in seven years, ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’, featuring Cardi B and more.
Dubbed the “revenge album”, the LP, which is ‘Women Don’t Cry Anymore’ in English, kicks off with a sultry pop collaboration with the ‘WAP’ rapper, 31, in ‘Puntería’.
The accompanying music video for the track, a fantasy featuring ‘Emily in Paris’ star Lucien Laviscount, also 31, was released alongside the record.
The album arrives in the aftermath of the ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ hitmaker’s split from footballer Gerard Piqué in 2022, after more than a decade together, and saw the 47-year-old Latin star “rebuilding herself”.
She said: “Making this body of work has been an alchemical process. While writing each song I was rebuilding myself. While singing them, my tears transformed into diamonds, and my vulnerability into strength.”
Shakira told The Times: “[It’s] the transformation of pain into creativity, frustration into productivity, anger into passion, vulnerability into resilience. There were so many pieces of my life that crumbled in front of my eyes and I had to rebuild myself in a way, picking up the bones from the floor and putting them all together. And the glue that kept it all together was music.”
It boasts eight new tracks along with the previously released singles, including ‘Music Sessions Vol. 53’ with Bizarrap, ‘TQG’ with Karol G, ‘Te Felicito’ with Rauw Alejandro, ‘Copa Vacía’ with Manuel Turizo.
In a first for the Grammy Award-winning star, the new album marks her debut release on vinyl, featuring four distinct artwork editions, each paired with an exclusive coloured vinyl variant.
The Sapphire edition is exclusively offered on Amazon, while the Ruby edition has been made available solely at Target.
Fans can find the Emerald edition exclusively on Shakira’s official website, and the Diamond edition will be stocked by all major retailers.
The ‘She Wolf’ singer had not released an album since 2017’s ‘El Dorado’ – which was mostly sung in her native Spanish’ and spawned the singles ‘Chantaje’ and ‘Me Enamoré.’
Prior to that, Shakira released a self-titled record that served as her fourth English-language album overall and it featured the hit single ‘Can’t Remember To Forget You’ with Rihanna.

Ozzy Osbourne ‘dying to make more music’ with Andrew Watt

OHMYGOSSIP — Ozzy Osbourne is “dying to make more music” with super producer Andrew Watt – but claims he’s busy working with Lady Gaga.
The 75-year-old rocker – who was forced to retire from touring due to ongoing health issues, including Parkinson’s disease and problems with his spine – is counting down the days until he’s back working with the studio wizard behind his 2020 album ‘Ordinary Man’ and 2022’s ‘Patient Number 9’, but he’s seemingly preoccupied with the ‘Born this Way’ hitmakers’ new music.
He told Rolling Stone: “I’ve always gotta be doing something, or it drives me crazy.
“I’ve got a haunted head.”
He added: “I’m waiting for [producer] Andrew Watt to give me a call.
“He’s been working with Lady Gaga. I’m dying to make more music.”
Andrew produced The Rolling Stones and Gaga’s song featuring Stevie Wonder, ‘Sweet Sounds of Heaven’, from their 2023 LP ‘Hackney Diamonds’.
The former Black Sabbath frontman also opened up about his solo nomination for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and how it’s “driving” him “mad” waiting to hear if he’s made it through.
He said of the nod: “It’s been driving me mad.
“It’s an honour that I’m nominated, but I’m not expecting to get in. There’s Mariah Carey, there’s Cher, Lenny Kravitz. I’m up against some serious people. If I get in, I get in. If I don’t, I don’t.”
Ozzy would love to return to the stage, but admitted he struggles to even “stand up right”.
He said: “I would love to, but I can’t stand up right.
“Maybe I’ll do something one day. I miss it terribly.”
Asked if he could manage a shorter performance at the ceremony, he replied: “Maybe. We’ll see.”
The ‘Crazy Train’ rocker was previously inducted alongside his Black Sabbath bandmates in 2006.
Speaking after the nominations were announced, Ozzy said in a statement: “I’m deeply honoured to receive this news from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
“To be one of the few musicians who’s being considered for a second entry, now as a solo artist, is something I could never have imagined. After 44 years as a solo artist the fact that I can continue to record music and receive this recognition is something I am incredibly proud of.”
The late Sinead O’Connor – who died last July, aged 56 – is also nominated, alongside the likes of Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Cher, and Oasis.
The list of nominees also includes Dave Matthews Band, Eric B. and Rakim, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Jane’s Addiction, Kool and the Gang, Lenny Kravitz, Ozzy Osbourne, Sade and A Tribe Called Quest.
Honourees will be announced in April and the ceremony will be staged in the autumn of 2024.

Joni Mitchell follows Neil Young in returning music to Spotify

OHMYGOSSIP — Joni Mitchell’s music has returned to Spotify after two years.
The Grammy winner hit the headlines in 2022 after she joined Neil Young’s boycott of the music streaming giant in protest of their deal with the controversial comedian Joe Rogan to exclusively distribute his podcast, ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ – reportedly worth an estimated $200 million – after he came under fire for his comments regarding COVID-19 and vaccines.
That deal has now ended, and Young was the first to return his back catalogue to Spotify two weeks ago, and now the ‘Big Yellow Taxi’ hitmaker has followed suit.
Young commented about his return to the platform on his website: “Spotify, the #1 streaming of low-res music in the world – Spotify where you get less quality than we made, will now be home of my music again.
“My decision comes as music services Apple and Amazon have started serving the same disinformation podcast features I opposed at Spotify. I cannot just leave Apple and Amazon, like I did with Spotify, because my music would have very little streaming outlet to music lovers at all.”
Mitchell said at the time: “Irresponsible people are spreading lies that are costing people their lives. I stand in solidarity with Neil Young and the global scientific and medical communities on this issue.”
‘Heart of Gold’ hitmaker Young issued an ultimatum to the music service, saying: “They can have Rogan or Young. Not both.”
‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ is now on Apple and Amazon.

Hozier shares four previously unreleased tracks from Unreal Unearth sessions

OHMYGOSSIP — Hozier has surprised released the ‘Unheard EP’.
The ‘Take Me To Church’ hitmaker has shared four outtakes from his 2023 album ‘Unreal Unearth’, including ‘Too Sweet’, ‘Empire Now’, ‘Fare Well’, and ‘Wildflower and Barley’, with Grammy winner Allison Russell.
He said: “It’s my pleasure to announce the release of more work from the album sessions which could not make the original release.
“These are songs that might’ve made it to the circles of gluttony, limbo, violence and the outward ‘ascent’ respectively but could not for different reasons. I’m very glad I’ll get to share them with you.”
‘Unreal Unearth’ – which was inspired by Dante’s legendary ‘Inferno’ poem – marked the Irish singer-songwriter’s first UK number one album.
Meanwhile, Hozier recently gushed that he’s always been blown away by how “talented” Ariana Grande is.
The 34-year-old musician revealed himself to be a massive stan of the 30-year-old pop superstar.
In a video for ELLE, Hozier said: “I love her music. I think she’s an excellent pop artist, I really do. I think she’s incredibly talented. I think every time I hear her sing, I’m reminded of just how ******* talented Ariana Grande is.”
The Irish-born star previously performed a cover of Ariana’s hit ‘Problem’ – which also features Iggy Azalea – on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge.
The chart-topper has also teased he would love to duet with the ambient artist, Ethel Cain, 25, whose songs are inspired by Christian music and Gregorian chants.
He told Attitude magazine: “An artist I was in touch with recently and would love to work with is Ethel Cain. I’m very, very excited about her work.
“We touched base recently, we just picked up contact. I’d love to do some shows with Ethel … maybe write a song.”

Nicole Scherzinger wishes she had ‘enjoyed’ Pussycat Dolls fame more: ‘I was always struggling!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicole Scherzinger wishes she had “enjoyed” her time in the Pussycat Dolls.
The 45-year-old singer shot to fame as a member of the girl group in 2004 alongside bandmates Carmit Bachar, Ashley Roberts, Kimberly Wyatt, Jessica Sutta and Melody Thornton but admitted that she was “always struggling” during their heyday because she was always worried about their future.
Speaking on the ‘How to Fail’ podcast, she told host Elizabeth Day: “I wish I was in the moment to enjoy it because I really didn’t as much.
“I think the girls knew that too, that I was always struggling. It was crazy. I was so young, we were all so young, and my brain, my neurotic brain just never shut off.
“So it was I wasn’t really living ever in the present.
“I think that was my biggest failure back then I was always thinking of the future of what’s the next hit? How can we make this better? What are we doing next. And that was probably my biggest failure back then was not enjoying the fruits of our, our labor, and we worked so hard.”
The dance troupe enjoyed chart-topping hits like ‘Don’t Cha?’ and ‘When I Grow Up’ before splitting up in 2010 but former ‘X Factor’ judge Nicole insisted that she and the girls are still “like a sisterhood” and is “really proud” of all they achieved together.
She said: “But I love the girls, we were really a sisterhood. Always will be, I believe, and we are one of the most successful groups internationally in history. 55 million records sold.
“I was really proud of the work, and of the music that we did .”
