Sabrina Carpenter admits being part of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour ‘was a whirlwind’

OHMYGOSSIP — Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ opener Sabrina Carpenter has admitted it was a “whirlwind” being part of the record-breaking jaunt.
The 24-year-old singer joined the 34-year-old pop megastar for several shows of the ongoing run, wrapping with Singapore on March 9, and she has dubbed it the “Taybrina era” whilst reflecting on the surreal experience.
She wrote on Instagram over the weekend: “Sitting at home reflecting on what a whirlwind this was and how very honored I feel to have been part of it. I want to thank every crowd for being so welcoming and generous to us and making some of the most impressive friendship bracelets I’ve ever received also a huge thank you to the incredible crew for being so hardworking and talented.”
Sabrina went on to hail Taylor a one-off.
She added: “The most thank you’s I’ve ever thank you’d to Taylor. I feel so lucky to witness the magic that is you and this tour. there is truly no one like you and there never will be! i love you with all my heart and i will cherish this taybrina era (and all the eras) till the end of time. (sic)”
Ahead of the support stint, Sabrina said the ‘Lavender Haze’ singer’s music was so “inspirational” to her growing up that she didn’t want to act “weird” and ask Taylor lots of questions backstage.
She told Billboard: “It’s so funny. I’m like, I’ve been growing up with her advice and her songs because it’s very much like a how-to book on how to survive as a young woman, which is really special. But watching her in itself is it’s like how you learn maths. Yeah, and I just admire her work ethic and her talent and her like she’s just so amazing. So I’m not gonna like… I’m not gonna be weird because I’m touring with Taylor.”
The mammoth jaunt continues with the European leg, which kicks off on May 9 in Nanterre, a suburb of Paris.

OHMYGOSSIP — ABBA tribute show Björn Again is heading to Hampton Court Palace Festival, presented by heycar, on Saturday 15 June.
The annual summer concert series at the royal landmark has confirmed its final headliner for this year, in the musical tribute act mimicking the Swedish pop icons, named after ABBA’s very own Björn Ulvaeus.
Head to hamptoncourtpalacefestival.com for tickets.
This year’s headliners also include Nile Rodgers and CHIC, Paloma Faith, Sheryl Crow, Sir Tom Jones, Jessie J, Jack Savoretti, Deacon Blue, and Sam Ryder.
The festival takes place between June 11 to June 22.
Artists perform in an intimate 3,000-seat auditorium in Base Court, set against the backdrop of Henry VIII’s magnificent Tudor Palace and attendees can enjoy picnics, drinks and street food in the Palace Gardens, with luxury packages on offer.
For the very first time, the event will also present a live podcast called ‘The Rest Is History’, with historians Dominic Sandbrook and Tom Holland hosting a show about Henry VIII and the Tudor period.
Meanwhile, ABBA fans will want to tune in for the BBC’s series of specials marking 50 years of the ‘Dancing Queen’ group, which will include previously lost footage of the band.
An hour-long documentary, ‘When ABBA Came to Britain’, will air as part of a Saturday night full of ABBA specials on BBC Two this April.
Another special is called ‘More ABBA at the BBC’, and there will be further programming across the BBC, including BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds.
The ‘Take a Chance on Me’ hitmakers – Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad – made the UK their home from 1974 to 1982, and the film “examines their ground-breaking legacy”, from winning Eurovision with ‘Waterloo’ to ABBA Voyage, their record-breaking, first-of-its-kind avatar show in London.
A press release continued: “It’s the tale of a relationship that started with the band’s fascination with British music, including The Beatles in the 1960s. After winning the Eurovision Song Contest with Waterloo in 1974, the band would eventually find global stardom, but their relationship with the UK remains unique.”
There will also be “long forgotten news footage, which all show how ABBAmania took hold in the UK in the 1970s and 1980s.”
It will include interviews with the likes of Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie and indie pop group Blossoms, who cite ABBA as an influence.

The Who will ‘crawl off and die’ after one ‘final’ farewell

OHMYGOSSIP — Pete Townshend has insisted The Who have one “final” thing left before they “crawl off and die”.
The 78-year-old guitarist has teased the prospect of a “final tour” all over the world to bring the group’s journey to an end, while he’s open to new music 31 years after his last solo album, given that the ‘Pinball Wizard’ group has also released two new records since 1983.
Asked if he wants to make new music, he told the New York Times newspaper: “I do and I think I will.
“It feels to me like there’s one thing the Who can do, and that’s a final tour where we play every territory in the world and then crawl off to die.”
Pete admitted he has mainly been “touring for the money” in recent years, and while he’s been writing a lot in his spare time, he hasn’t felt a desire to release any of the material.
He added: “I don’t get much of a buzz from performing with the Who. If I’m really honest, I’ve been touring for the money. My idea of an ordinary lifestyle is pretty elevated.
“I’ve been immensely creative and productive throughout that period, but I haven’t felt the need to put it out.
“And if I can make it personal, I don’t care whether you like it or not. When ‘White City’ came out [in 1985] and the sales were so slow, I thought, ‘Screw this’. Nobody wanted me as I was — they wanted the old Pete.”
He even took a dig at rock legends AC/DC, insisting The Who has always had a difference approach to their music.
He said: “AC/DC made 50 albums, but all their albums were the same. It wasn’t the way the Who worked. We were an ideas band.”
Earlier this year, Pete’s bandmate Roger Daltrey reflected on The Who and insisted he is “happy” to be moving on.
He told The Times newspaper: “I can’t answer that. I don’t write the songs. I never did.
“We [he and Townshend] need to sit down and have a meeting, but at the moment I’m happy saying that part of my life is over.”

‘No more make-up’: Gene Simmons makes pledge ahead of solo shows

OHMYGOSSIP — Gene Simmons has vowed “no more make-up” on stage.
The 74-year-old rocker’s group KISS – who played their final show in December, four years after beginning their ‘End of the Road’ tour – always performed with black-and-white paint covering their faces, but the ‘Crazy Crazy Nights’ hitmaker isn’t planning to stick with the look when he takes his “little side band” on the road this summer.
He told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “We’ve got a little side band called the Gene Simmons Band, and we’ll be headlining festivals across Europe, South America… no more make-up for me.
“But we’re the luckiest people in the world.”
KISS have stepped away from performing following their final show in the Big Apple, but they surprised fans by debuting digital versions of themselves created by the teams behind the lucrative ‘ABBA Voyage’ hologram show.
They declared the avatars signal the start of a “new era” and Gene has claimed millions of dollars are being pumped into the project.
Speaking during a Q+A at the Electric Lady Studios in New York, he told one fan: “There’s so much being planned, even beyond my comprehension. But they’re spending, oh, about 200 million [dollars] to take it to the next level.”
He said of ABBA’s first-of-its-kind show, he added: “You can’t tell if they’re there, right there, like that.”
In a video posted online after their final concert, Gene explained: “We can be forever young and forever iconic by taking us to places we’ve never dreamt of before.
“The technology is going to make [rhythm guitarist and co-lead vocalist] Paul [Stanley] jump higher than he’s ever done before … If you think you are going to get rid of us then that’s not going to happen.”
The band has yet to confirm their exact plans for the avatars, but Paul said it’s a very exciting.
He explained: “I think we’ve transcended over the years being human beings and here we are becoming immortal and it’s very exciting for us … We can’t maintain this [band] indefinitely but you [avatar-makers] can.”

James Blake calls on record labels to fund artists’ therapy

OHMYGOSSIP — James Blake has called on record labels to “fund therapy” for their artists.
The 35-year-old Grammy winner has previously spoken about his own struggles with his mental health, and he believes labels that “profit from our trauma” should foot the bill for their healing.
He wrote on X: “You shouldn’t get to profit from our trauma without helping with the pitfalls of it.”
James added: “Live agents and managing companies too. All of them have a vested interest in the artist becoming more successful, which means disconnected from support systems/family/friends by being thrown into a strange, disconnected world of touring and parasocial media.
“I’m not suggesting a label provide their sanctioned therapist to be clear just that they should fund therapy.”
The ‘Retrograde’ singer previously opened up about the period in his career when his mental health spiralled from trying to maintain a “cool” stage persona.
James suffered from social anxiety in the past and wasn’t “great to talk to at the time” and put pressure on himself to be the “coolest version” of himself “possible”.
Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music in 2021, in observance of World Mental Health Day, James shared: “And so, the chasm between the person that you’re presenting as your personality to the public, and the person you really are when the mic is off, and you go home, and you’ve got to deal with your own problems, becomes grander and grander.
“And it’s just like for me, the thing was, the difference between my musical, cool, doing loads of collabs, and producing blah, blah, blah, and doing dub, electronic music, and good reviews, and all that stuff, and me just spiralling … and actually not being that great to talk to at the time, and not really having anything to say, and just having loads of social anxiety, but then going on stage and just being the coolest version of myself possible.
“And you’re rewarded financially for that in a lot of cases. I think it’s Pavlovian. It’s like the more you get the treat, the more you return to that behaviour. I think the answer for me, was to decide that I was okay with not getting the treat, and that I would decide to stop pretending that I was like, whatever part of me it was that was saying, okay, I need to appear this way to be as perfect as the kids at school thought I wasn’t, or I’m going to be cooler than… Whatever.”
The singer-songwriter went through a period of doing “the worst things” for his mental health, such as drinking too much alcohol, overeating, and not exercising.
Meanwhile, James has recently partnered with Vault, a new artist-to-fan platform, to offer fans direct access to his music for a monthly subscription of $5.
He also called out platforms like Spotify for taking huge chunks of money from artists’ streaming revenues.

Beyonce’s 16 Carriages was conceived long before first Renaissance album

OHMYGOSSIP — Beyoncé’s country tune ’16 Carriages’ was made before 2022’s ‘Act I: Renaissance’ album.
The 42-year-old superstar has switched things up for her upcoming country album, ‘Act II: Cowboy Carter’, with the two lead singles, ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ and ’16 Carriages’, dividing opinion.
The record is a celebration of the Houston native’s Southern roots, and the second instalment of Beyoncé’s trilogy project and was conceived amid the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, before the first album was released.
Appearing on the ‘Acknowledged’ YouTube series, producer Atia ‘INK’ Boggs spilled: “So a lot of people don’t know, we actually had this first.
“So imagine having this timeless, classic music first and having to wait, and then she came up with ‘Act I’.
“So we came out of being isolated, back into the world from no parties to finally expressing ourselves.”
On her decision to go country, Boggs added: “And it’s like, baby, we don’t do just one thing we do everything, and we do it well. That’s what she’s letting you know. This is her Southern roots; this is her Texas roots.”
On the criticism she has faced, the songwriter – who has also worked with Chris Brown and Justin Bieber – added: “Representation matters, that sound matters. This sound is Black music, this is what we started.
“’16 Carriages,’ that was one of my favourite songs I’ve ever made and produced in all of my life. Because it’s so personal. I love to see her in that personal light.”
Despite the naysayers, the country world has been largely welcoming of the project, with Beyoncé getting the seal of approval from the Queen of Country herself, Dolly Parton.
She shared on social media: “I’m a big fan of Beyoncé and very excited that she’s done a country album.
“So congratulations on your Billboard Hot Country number one single. Can’t wait to hear the full album!”
The ‘Crazy in Love’ hitmaker became the first Black woman to top Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart with ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ after it debuted at No.1 on the US chart, and ’16 Carriages’ has also racked up some impressive streams.
Dolly, 78, also let slip that Beyoncé might have covered ‘Jolene’ for the album.

Beautiful Things hitmaker Benson Boone wants to obtain a pilot’s license to celebrate No1

OHMYGOSSIP — Benson Boone wants to obtain a pilot’s license after reaching number one with viral hit ‘Beautiful Things’.
The TikTok sensation – who was signed by Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds to his Night Street Records label – has just achieved dizzying heights of success after the tune reached number one in Australia, Austria, Canada, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, and his next goal is to skydive and learn how to fly a plane.
Benson is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column as saying: “I wanna get my skydiving licence. I am trying to get more and more licences, like I got my scooter licence, I wanna get my pilot’s licence.”
When he’s coming down from the high of performing to huge crowds, Benson likes to play a popular card game.
Asked how he chills out after a concert, he replied: “A game of Uno.”
Benson has just announced his debut album, ‘Fireworks and Rollerblades’, which will arrive on April 5.
As well as ‘Beautiful Things’, the collection will feature the previously released singles, ‘Slow It Down’, ‘Ghost Town’ and ‘In the Stars’.
He’s also embarking on a world tour in support of the LP, which kicks off on April 2 in Chicago, before heading to Europe and the UK.
The 21-year-old American singer-songwriter previously admitted his “life has changed dramatically” since he released ‘Beautiful Things’ in January.
He told Dig!: “My life has changed dramatically since the song came out.
“Beautiful Things was the first time that I really made proper goals for the song to come out, and now that they have been fulfilled, I can fulfill other goals. It’s so, so, so insane to me that that is happening. I’m trying so hard to formulate words. I have so much trouble processing it all right now, because I’m trying to stay on top of it and make this moment bigger than just Beautiful Things. But when I sit back and look at what’s happening, it really, truly blows my mind. Because it’s something a lot of people dream of, and [I’m] one of those people.”

Story of My Life: Liam Payne teases honest new solo album

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Payne has poured his heart and soul into the songs on his new solo album.
The 30-year-old former One Direction star admitted he and his team rewrote a lot of the tracks on his follow-up to 2019’s ‘LP1’ because he needed them to be authentic.
Speaking as part of a fan event, where he performed his emotional new song ‘Teardrops’, Liam is quoted by The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column as saying: “This time, the scariest part is that every one of these songs is a story from my life.
“And they’re really close to me. I hope people feel that through every song, that I actually felt whatever it is you’re feeling right now listening to this.”
He added: “We’ve rewritten a lot of these songs based off the idea of where we’re going with this and also how I’m feeling as a person.
“I used to show up to sing a song, then go. Absolutely not this time. We’re going to have fun with this.”
‘Teardrops’, which arrived earlier this month, was co-written with NSYNC member JC Chasez.
Meanwhile, Liam’s former 1D bandmate, Zayn Malik, is gearing up to release his new solo album, which is also “raw and honest”, and completely self-penned.
The 31-year-old singer is putting out his fourth studio record ‘Room Under the Stairs’ on May 17 – his first since 2021’s ‘Nobody Is Listening’ – and it marks a departure from his old sound.
Taking part in ‘Hot Ones’, he spilled: “The new album is a very different sound to anything I’ve ever put out before.
“It’s just really raw and honest and I hope people get that when they listen to it, I hope they get some insight into how I’m feeling and the things I’ve been going through over the last six or seven years while I’ve been writing this record, and that’s the most important thing for me, I just want people to feel that they get a connection with the record.”
