Eurodance legends Cascada reuniting for new album

OHMYGOSSIP — Cascada are reuniting for their first album in 13 years.
The ‘Everytime We Touch’ hitmakers are putting a modern spin on disco music and the record, ‘Studio 24′, which has been self-penned by frontwoman Natalie Horler, is close to completion.
The 42-year-old singer – who recently appeared on Jax Jones’ remix of ‘Never Be Lonely’ – told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “It’s inspired by the times of [New York club] Studio 54.
“We’re doing a take in a more modern disco style. I’m so excited about it because it’s been a while since I’ve done a whole album. It’s nearly finished.”
The noughties star is channelling her friends’ experiences of heartbreak into the upbeat floor-fillers.
Natalie continued: “I haven’t done a lot of songwriting on my own so I’m more than excited to be able to put my own tracks on this album.
“I’ve been fortunate not to have gone through too much heartbreak, but I’ve had many friends that have and when you’re close to them, you know what they’re feeling. I write from their experiences.”
Natalie also revealed she was once asked if she would send her “worn socks” to a fan on social media.
She added: “I don’t really get weird things, but it does happen once in a while. Recently someone messaged asking if they could have my worn socks.”
The dance legends had a string of hits with ‘Everytime We Touch’, ‘What Hurts the Most’, ‘Evacuate the Dancefloor’, and ‘Miracle’. Cascada represented Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, Sweden with ‘Glorious’, which finished in 21st place with 18 points.

Kylie Minogue working on ‘full-on dance album’ following the success of Tension

OHMYGOSSIP — Kylie Minogue is reportedly working on a “full-on” dance album.
The 55-year-old pop legend enjoyed a massive career resurgence in 2023 with the release of her viral summer hit ‘Padam Padam’ but an insider has now claimed that the next two records are already on the way, with one of them being a repackaged version of her chart-topping 16th studio album ‘Tension’, which became her seventh to top the charts upon its release towards the end of last year.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Kylie has made it clear to her team this is no time to slow down. Plans are already in motion for the next two albums, one of which will be a repackage of ‘Tension’ with additional songs. As for the direction of album 17 it’s early days — but a full-on dance album is in the works.”
Over the last year, Kylie – who has become noted for exploring a string of different genres since beginning her career as a pop artist in the late 1990s – has starred in her own Las Vegas residency after finding new success in the United States and the insider claimed that the new edition of ‘Tension’ will be out before the end of 2024.
The source added: “The plan is to release the Tension repackage towards the end of the year, with probably up to five new tracks.”
Kylie – who was named Global Icon at the BRIT Awards 2024 and just weeks prior to that scooped a Grammy Award for Best Pop Dance Recording – admitted that she needs to embrace all the opportunities that come her way or she has “no hope”.
She told Billboard magazine: “I told someone at my label: ‘It’s happening now. There’s no snoozing’.
“I am wildly inspired right now. I’m at a point in my life where I know it’s not eternal. I just want to maximize this brilliant wave.
“If you’re not out paddling for when that wave comes along, you’ve got no hope.”

Richard Hawley’s guitar tribute to Scott Walker

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Hawley played the late Scott Walker’s guitar on his new album.
The 57-year-old singer explained all of the instruments he used on his upcoming record, ‘In This City They Call You Love’, had a personal meaning to him because of their previous owners.
He told MOJO magazine: “Scott [Walker]’s family got in touch with me because I was friends with him.
“Scott wanted me to use one of his guitars and a representative of the family flew from Denmark with the guitar to put it in my hand in Sheffield.
“On the new album, everything that’s a guitar solo was played on Scott’s beautiful, very old Telecaster, with love.
“I also used my dad’s old Gretch and a guitar that Duane Eddy gave me.
“The album is most definitely a family affair.”
The title of the record was inspired by Richard’s “muse”, his home city of Sheffield.
He explained: “In Sheffield, which is my muse and always will be, people do call you ‘love’.
“Every single day of my life I hear the word ‘love’, haha.
“It’s the language we use, very much a ‘here’ thing.
“Then you read the news, which is enormously depressing, and you just seem to see the word ‘hate’.”
The ‘Baby, You’re My Light’ singer also wanted to convey a sense of “unity”.
He added: “So it’s that and voices singing together.
“Something positive, and I don’t mean this in a soft way.
“This concept of unity seems to be something that’s kind of missing out of the world.
“So some sort of healing, I think was going off. From what? Probably the last few years, we’ve all been battered and bruised, but it’s not a lockdown album.”

Jon Batiste applauds Beyonce for ‘dismantling genres’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jon Batiste has applauded Beyonce for “dismantling genres” with her new country album ‘Cowboy Carter’.
The singer/songwriter wrote and produced the track ‘Ameriican Requiem’ for the pop star’s new record – which also features star turns from Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson and Miley Cyrus – and he says Beyonce is doing her part to break down barriers in the music industry.
In a post on X – formerly known as Twitter- he wrote: ” This is the moment yall, where we dismantle the genre machine. I was happy to produce and write for ‘Ameriican Requiem’ along with Beyonce and Dion ‘No ID’ Wilson.
“When I catch inspiration, the words and chords pour out of me. What a honour to then see how brilliantly Beyonce made them her own and THEN further enhanced the lyrical statement, synthesising it into the larger body of work.”
He added: “Quincy Jones told me, as he also wrote in his forward to my WE ARE album, ‘it’s up to you to de categorise American music!!’, which is what Duke Ellington told him. I really believe that is our generations role, led by a few artists willing to take this leap.”
Batiste went on to thank Beyonce for producing the album – declaring a “new era” is coming. He added: “Very grateful for my contribution to your brilliant album, a work of such unimaginable impact and artistic firepower by a once in a generation artist. So glad that we finally got to collaborate with each other at this time.
“Producing and writing for ‘Ameriican Requiem’ was an example of extraordinary alignment—when many leading artists see a similar vision at the same time, that’s when you know a major shift is happening. A new era, long time coming. Let’s liberate ourselves from genre and break the barriers that marginalise who we are and the art that we create.”

Elbow struggled with ‘high energy’ songs

OHMYGOSSIP — Elbow struggle with “high energy” songs.
The ‘Grounds for Divorce’ hitmakers have “given up” on writing up tempo tracks in the past because they have taken too much work to get right, and they eventually lost their essence.
Keyboardist Craig Potter told Record Collector magazine: “It doesn’t come naturally to us.
“We’ve given up on songs in that vein in the past, as it hasn’t clicked straight away.
“The nature of in-your-face songs means that working on them for too long becomes draining.
“If you start labouring on them, what’s essential about them disappears.”
However, the group were keen for their new album, ‘Audio Vertigo’ to be “fun”.
Frontman Guy Garvey said: “We haven’t really used fun as a motivation before.
“Craig and Pete [Turner, bassist] particularly kept saying ‘because it’s fun’ about the songs.”
Speaking about the horn into of ‘Her To The Earth’, he added: “I walked in on Craig and Pete dancing around the room to it. I was, ‘What are you doing?’ which is when the ‘fun’ word came up.
“I said, ‘OK, I can go with that.’ “
And the ‘One Day Like This’ group dismissed some ballads from the finished album after they’d been recorded.
Guy admitted: “We’d finish them then say, ‘This is good, but I’ve heard us do this before, and maybe better.’ “

SZA to start ‘LANA’ LP ‘from scratch’ and drop leaks and outtakes as SOS deluxe

OHMYGOSSIP — SZA is staring ‘Lana’ from “scratch” and will release the “leaks and outtakes” that have appeared online as the deluxe edition of ‘SOS’.
The ‘Kill Bill’ hitmaker was left angered after her songs fell victim to a leak and vowed to take legal action against whoever “stole” her art.
Since then, there have been more leaks and SZA has decided to collect all the leaked songs and outtakes and drop them on the deluxe “ASAP”, whilst she is giving herself more time to make a whole new record in ‘Lana’.
She wrote on X: “Will be dropping the leaks and the outtakes from SOS as promised as the deluxe asap. Lana deserves more time and music no one’s ever heard before. Seems fair. Bless. (sic)”
In a since-deleted post, she wrote: “So, we’ll make this really simple. Y’all leaked three songs from the deluxe. At this point, y’all can keep the throwaways and leaks. I’ll be starting LANA from scratch. Do not ask me about it again. Thank you.”
Earlier this year, SZA fumed on X: ”LEAKING MY MUSIC IS STEALING. THIS IS MY JOB. THIS IS MY LIFE AND MY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY.
YOU ARE A THIEF AND I PROMISE TO PUT MAXIMUM ENERGY INTO HOLDING EVERYONE ACCOUNTABLE TO THE FULL EXTENT OF THE LAW. I AM TIRED .”
Top Dawg Entertainment President Terrence ‘Punch’ Henderson shared his client’s post and warned: “When music leaks it often leads to delays and/or canceling whole projects. (sic)”
SZA previously explained how the deluxe edition ended up turning into a “whole project” of its own.
She told fans at a free Brooklyn concert last September: “The deluxe is a whole other album. It’s called ‘Lana.’ It’s seven to 10 songs and it’ll be out this fall.”

New Kurt Cobain documentary to ‘demystify’ tragic death of Nirvana legend

OHMYGOSSIP — A new BBC documentary aims to “demystify” the tragic death of Kurt Cobain – 30 years after his suicide rocked the world.
The late Nirvana frontman and Grunge pioneer died on April 5, 1994, aged 27, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head after being found at his Seattle home with a suicide letter.
The ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ hitmaker’s death sparked many conspiracy theories over the years, including him being “murdered” and even some accusing his widow, Hole frontwoman Courtney Love, 59, of causing his death.
To mark the 30th anniversary of his passing, the BBC has announced a series of programmes, including the hour-long documentary ‘Moments That Shook Music: Kurt Cobain’ for the BBC from Touchdown Films, which aims to put an end to the “myth and legend” surrounding the circumstances of his death.
BBC Two and iPlayer will dedicate a Saturday night in April to Kurt – who had daughter Frances Bean Cobain, 31, with Courtney – and Nirvana.
A press release notes: “Told exclusively through powerful and rare archive footage – some of which has never been seen on British TV before – Moments that Shook Music: Kurt Cobain is a visceral account of the days that surrounded that tragic moment in 1994 when Cobain took his own life.”
Jonathan Rothery, Head of BBC Popular Music TV, said: “Kurt Cobain’s life and death has turned into myth and legend since his passing. This documentary tries to demystify that moment in time by telling the story direct from the scene, via fly on the wall footage filmed by those that were there.”
The film will feature “footage captured by local fans in Seattle and raw material from news crews reporting at the time are woven together, immersing the viewers in the events that unfolded, as they happened.”
It will also show the “poignant reaction from the electrician who discovered Kurt’s body when installing a security system at his Seattle home; statements from police at the scene; the chaos, confusion and devastation caught on video by his fans – including the moment a tape recording of an emotional Courtney Love reading her late husband’s final letter was played out to a crowd of thousands at a vigil in Seattle; and a revealing interview with Cobain himself, just months before he died.”
Fans still to this day flock to the piece of grass to the side of Kurt’s former home on Lake Washington Boulevard to lay flowers, etch Nirvana lyrics on a bench, and hold vigils in his memory.
On the same evening, BBC Two re-show ‘When Nirvana Came To Britain’, which examines the bond between Nirvana and the UK – including the famous Reading festival and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl’s band Foo Fighters.
On Friday 5 April, BBC Radio 6 Music will pay tribute with ‘Kurt Cobain Forever’; Each hour from 7am-7pm, presenters Nathan Shepherd (sitting in for Chris Hawkins), Deb Grant (sitting in for Lauren Laverne), Mary Anne Hobbs, Craig Charles and Emily Pilbeam (sitting in for Huw Stephens) will play a track by Kurt.
A collection of programmes dedicated to Kurt will also be available on BBC Sounds from April 5.
On BBC Radio 2, Jo Whiley will be playing tracks from Nirvana’s seminal album second studio album, 1991’s ‘Nevermind’, and sharing listeners’ memories in her show (April 2 to April 4 from 7pm to 9pm) and Dermot O’Leary will mark the anniversary by playing a Nirvana track in his Saturday show’s weekly vinyl slot (April 6 from 8am to 10am).

Sheryl Crow: ‘Making Albums is a waste of time and money!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Sheryl Crow thinks albums are a “waste of time and money”.
The ‘All I Wanna Do’ hitmaker intended to stop making records following 2019’s ‘Threads’, and although she still thinks it’s pointless in a streaming world, she is set to release the follow-up, ‘Evolution’, on Friday (29.03.24).
The collection is inspired by Peter Gabriel’s song ‘Digging in the Dirt’ and features a cover of the 1992 hit, featuring the man himself, and nine other songs.
She told the May 2024 issue of Red magazine: “I still think [creating albums] is a waste of time and money! People don’t listen to records as a full body of work, but I had all these songs that felt very timely… So, I thought, ‘Okay, I’m not going to make a conventional album, thinking about the beginning, middle and end.’ Instead, it’s a compilation of new songs.’”
The 62-year-old star also shared how she found solace in music when she was growing up.
She recalled: “It was what I went to when all my friends started drinking and smoking pot and I felt left out. It was an identity crutch, and when it came time to figure out what I wanted to be, music was the thing I was good at.”
She added of being talent spotted singing in a bar: “I was singing in a bar when a producer came in and asked me to sing on a commercial. It was the first time somebody said, ‘I think you’re good, and I’m going to help you utilise what you do and you’re going to get paid for it.’”
The country pop star previously explained how she “loved” making all of her studio albums, but she feels it’s pointless to put all the effort into a whole body of work when music fans “cherry-pick songs” on streaming platforms.
Speaking to NME in 2019, she admitted: “I think more than likely it will be my last album.
“I’m really at peace about that. I have loved my career, I don’t feel like my career is over, but I feel like things have just changed so drastically.
“I’ve loved making records, I’ve loved producing, but I feel like for the love and the time and the emotion that goes into creating an artistic statement, a full body of work, that now with technology people kind of just cherry-pick songs, and it seems sort of futile to me.
“And this just felt like the right project to go out on: a project that is a timeline from my earliest years all the way up until now and even into the future.”
The musician reassured her fans that she will still release singles.
She said: “[This will] not [be] my last music, but probably my last album project as a whole.”

Probably best not to try and shake hands with RHCP’s Flea and John Frusciante…

OHMYGOSSIP — Red Hot Chili Peppers members Flea and John Frusciante allegedly don’t like to shake hands with strangers.
The Black Keys’ drummer Patrick Carney has revealed he went over to introduce himself to the ‘By The Way’ group’s bassist and guitarist in a restaurant in Madrid, Spain, post-COVID 19, and was stunned when his handshake was rejected and grimaced at.
Patrick told ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’: “They were sitting there having the most nerdy conversation.
“Like, ‘If you augment the 7th…’ [We were] kind of like, ‘Whoa, they are just such nerds!'”
He continued: “I was like, I’m going to go say what’s up.
“I went over and I shook Flea’s hand, and then I went to go shake John Frusciante’s hand and he’s like, ‘I don’t do that.’ And then Flea was like, ‘Excuse me, I’m going to go wash my hands.’ And they’re like, ‘We’re germaphobes’.”
Patrick quipped: “Aren’t these guys legendary ex-heroin addicts and ****?”
By contrast, meeting and working with former Oasis rocker Noel Gallagher was a dream.
Patrick told NME last year: “He’s hilarious and super talented. We were referring to him as ‘The Chord Lord’ because he’s just a perfectionist with it.”
The ‘Live Forever’ hitmaker supplied backing vocals and guitar on a handful of tracks on their upcoming LP, ‘Ohio Players’, due for release on April 5.

Dolly Parton wants you to stream the original Jolene before Beyonce shares her version

OHMYGOSSIP — Dolly Parton has requested fans listen to her mega-hit ‘Jolene’ before Beyoncé shares her version on Friday (29.03.24).
The ‘Crazy in Love’ hitmaker shared the track-listing for her upcoming country album, ‘Cowboy Carter’, this week, and Dolly is calling on her followers to stream the 1973 classic.
Sharing the track-list on her Instagram Story, she wrote: “Play the original while you wait for @beyonce’s “Jolene”.”
As well as the record-breaking ‘Texas ‘Hold ‘Em’ and ’16 Carriages’, Beyoncé’s epic 27-song collection features the following tracks: ‘Ameriican Requiem,’ ‘Blackbiird,’ ‘Protector,’ ‘My Rose,’ ‘Bodyguard,’ ‘Daughter,’ ‘Spaghettii,’ ‘Alliigator Tears,’ ‘Smoke Hour II,’ ‘Just for Fun,’ ‘II Most Wanted,’ ‘Levii’s Jeans,’ ‘Flamenco,’ ‘Ya Ya,’ ‘Oh Louisiana,’ ‘Desert Eagle,’ ‘Riiverdance,’ ‘Tyrant,’ ‘II Hands II Heaven,’ ‘Sweet Honey Buckin’, and ‘Amen’.
The 78-year-old country music icon let slip that the 42-year-old megastar was considering releasing a version of her timeless song for ‘Renaissance Act II’.
Speaking to Knox News, she said of the rumours that they recorded a duet for the album: “Well, I think she has! I think she’s recorded ‘Jolene’ and I think it’s probably gonna be on her country album, which I’m very excited about that.
“I love her!
“She’s a beautiful girl and a great singer.”
And it turns out the ‘9 to 5’ hitmaker had wanted the former Destiny’s Child star to cover the song for years.
She said: “We’ve kind of sent messages back and forth through the years. And she and her mother were like fans, and I was always touched that they were fans, and I always thought she was great.”
The ‘Single Ladies’ hitmaker became the first Black woman to top Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart with ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ after it debuted at No.1 on the US chart, and ’16 Carriages’ has also racked up some impressive streams.
‘Renaissance Act II’ is the second part of her planned ‘Renaissance’ trilogy – following the 2022 dance record ‘Renaissance’.
There has been quite the debate surrounding her foray into country, which sees the Houston-native pay homage to her Southern roots, but the Queen of Country herself spoke out to defend the star.
Dolly shared on social media: “I’m a big fan of Beyoncé and very excited that she’s done a country album.
“So congratulations on your Billboard Hot Country number one single. Can’t wait to hear the full album!”

Camila Cabello warned I Luv It collaborator Playboi Carti is ‘mysterious’

OHMYGOSSIP — Camila Cabello was warned not to ask Playboi Carti to work with her because he’s “mysterious”.
The ‘Havana’ hitmaker, 27, has joined forces with the rapper on her latest single, ‘I Luv It’, and she ended up having a “really cute” exchange with the hip-hop artist, also 27, via DM, when she invited him to work with her, despite what everyone else had said.
Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, she shared: “I DMed him. Well, I feel like my mentality, I feel like throughout this process has been, first of all, closed mouths don’t get fed. And a lot of people are like, don’t even… He’s like, he’s mysterious and whatever. And I was just like, you know what? I’m just going to DM him.
I said, ‘Hey, butterfly.’ And then he said, ‘CC,’ and then I said, ‘Carti.’ It was really cute.”
The pair hit off in the studio and Playboi – whose real name is Jordan Carter – laid down his verses whilst they knocked back Don Julio tequila.
She continued: “It was very genuine. And then we talked about Miami because he spends a lot of time in Miami and Atlanta, and yeah, I think we just started talking, and I think he really loved the kind of visual stuff that I was leaning into. I was just like, ‘Hey, come by. Let’s hang out. Let me play you some music.’ And I played him this song, because I think me and Pablo and Jasper were like, he would just be so sick on this song and we genuinely thought he would love the song, and he did. And we have similar ways of working, and for me, my writing process is just kind of free-styling, and then we work from that. But yeah, he just went in the booth and we were just so excited and we just like, we’re drinking Don Julio, and it was just sick.”
‘I Luv It’ was released this week ahead of her upcoming album, ‘C, XOXO’.

YUNGBLUD has really bad insomnia triggered by anxiety

OHMYGOSSIP — YUNGBLUD hasn’t slept properly for “eight years”.
The ‘Fleabag’ hitmaker, 26, gets overexcited and has bountiful energy levels due to his attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and he has revealed it also impacts his sleep and he has particularly struggled with getting enough shut eye ever since he was kept awake by a stranger’s breathing when he crashed at their house back in 2016.
He told Jamie Laing’s new podcast ‘Great Company’: “[I’m a] complete insomniac. Fully. Like terrible at it. Terrible at sleeping honestly. I actually get a bit stressed out. It gets to 10pm, sat watching the telly and I’m like oh s***, I gotta go to bed soon. And I get in bed and it all starts going. Overthinking, sometimes I’m just anxious I don’t know why, but then sometimes I’m just stressed about something or sometimes I’m just weirdly excited.”
YUNGBLUD – whose real name is Dominic Harrison – continued: “You know at Christmas I was the worst Christmas sleeper. I’m going to hear my dad put down the stocking in a minute or whatever. But I remember the first time I didn’t really sleep, I was in Brighton, we were playing a festival called The Great Escape Festival and apparently when you’re in a band, me and my drummer and my guitar player, we literally just lived in a squat in South London and we were like people might see us here tomorrow so we’ve really got to nail it. Weirdly we randomly stayed at this dude’s house and me and the guitar player was sleeping on the sofa and every time he breathes, he would do every three minutes and it kept me up all night and I’ve not slept since Brighton. Honestly, I’ve not slept since Brighton so every time I go back to Brighton, I’m like you mother******, I hate this place. That was probably in 2016.”
The ’Funeral’ rocker – who has just announced his first-ever inclusive music festival, BLUDFEST – then quipped: “That’s why I wear eyeliner because if I take it off you actually see the weather, crambazzled as f***.”

In a post on Instagram, she wrote: “GUTS (spilled) is out!!!!!” the pop star wrote, sharing photos from the “Obsessed” music video, which dropped just a few hours ahead of the deluxe album. “I made ‘Obsessed’ with @dan_nigro and @st_vincent almost 3 years ago and I’m so stoked it’s finally out in the world. it’s always been one of my favourites and it’s been so fun to play live every night on tour.

The ‘vampire’ hitmaker teamed up with her pal Jack White to release the vinyl via his Third Man Records after he wrote her a letter telling Olivia her “only job” is to write radio-worthy music.
In an interview with The New York Times, Olivia explained: “He wrote me this letter the first time I met him that said, ‘Your only job is to write music that you would want to hear on the radio.
“I mean, writing songs that you would like to hear on the radio is in fact very hard.”
