Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley announces memoir

OHMYGOSSIP — Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley is set to share the “highest highs and lowest lows of the band” as well as his own in his upcoming memoir, ‘Walking Disaster: My Life Through Heaven And Hell’.
The 43-year-old musician has put pen to paper to tell his life story as the band prepare to release their final album, ‘Heaven :x: Hell’, and complete their farewell jaunt, ‘The Tour of the Setting Sum’.
A synopsis for the tome reads: “Deryck takes you backstage, into the recording booth, and through the highest highs and lowest lows of the band whose story is inextricably woven with his own.”
Deryck recently admitted he’s looking forward to the next chapter of his life.
He told Us Weekly: “I’m sure it might feel a little bit different as we get closer to the end of the tour.
“But I’m also really excited about that, too. Not that I just want to get over Sum 41, but I feel excited about the future, of trying new things, expanding and growing and being creative in other ways and seeing where life takes me.”
The ‘In Too Deep’ rocker was rushed to the emergency room last September, after his health took a turn for the worse – nine years after he nearly died when he was hospitalised after his drinking spiralled out of control.
Sum 41 announced in May that they were breaking up after 27 years together.
The group said in an Instagram statement about their decision to split: “Being in Sum 41 since 1996 brought us some of the best moments in our lives.
“We are forever grateful to our fans both old and new, who have supported us in any way. It is hard to articulate the love and respect we have for all of you and we wanted you to hear this from us first.”

Public Service Broadcasting to perform with orchestra at Durham Brass Festival

OHMYGOSSIP — Public Service Broadcasting will headline Durham Brass Festival 2024.
The alternative rock group will top the bill on July 5, when they will perform their acclaimed 2017 album ‘Every Valley’ with The NASUWT Riverside Band in the World Heritage Site of Durham Cathedral in North East England.
The festival runs for a week between July 5 and 13, and will see an eclectic mix of performers.
Public Service Broadcasting founding member J Willgoose Esq said: “I’ve spent a lot of time in the North-East because my dad is from Fulwell in Sunderland. He moved to London in 1975 but my grandfather lived in Seaburn so we used to go up all the time and we’d go to Beamish a lot. I do wonder how much of an influence that had on wanting to do a record on coal mining. You never know what things are imprinting on your mind but it always feels very close to home even though it’s a long way from South London. I certainly knew all about the Miners’ Gala and the colliery bands and it always feels important to me to play in the North East.”
The likes of Manic Street Preachers’ James Dean Bradfield, Camera Obscura’s Tracyanne Campbell, and a 12-piece brass band feature on the album.
The NASUWT Riverside Band previously peformed with Richard Hawley and Field Music at the event.
Tony Thompson, NASUWT Riverside Band leader, commented: “I think it’s so pertinent because it’s 40 years since the miners’ strike so it’s the ideal time to reflect on that. There’s so much about coal mining in the history of Durham and the cathedral is absolutely unique. It’s a very big acoustic but you can still hear the detail so it lends itself to music that can be quiet and reflective. I think it will be a very memorable night.”
Cllr Elizabeth Scott, the council’s Cabinet member for economy and partnerships, said: “We can’t wait for Durham Brass Festival 2024. Public Service Broadcasting teaming up with The NASWUT Riverside Band to perform music inspired by coal mining in this the 40th anniversary of the strikes promises to be an amazing night. We have always wanted to get Public Service Broadcasting to Brass and the fact they are performing in the stunning venue that is our World Heritage Durham Cathedral will only make it all the more special.
We’re also looking forward to seeing The Cory Band’s fascinating take on King Kong and the return of Brass mainstays Streets of Brass and Party in the Park, which, as ever, are free to attend.
In the ‘Culture County’ we firmly believe in the power of events such as Brass to put smiles on faces while also boosting our economy. Last year 30,000 people came to Brass, spending money in local shops and businesses, and the ability of our events to stimulate this economic activity is a key reason why we deliver our festivals and events programme.”
Tickets for Durham Brass Festival 2024 go on general sale from 9am, Friday (22.03.24) via www.brassfestival.co.uk.

Lemmy’s ashes to be ‘enshrined’ at his favourite West Hollywood boozer

OHMYGOSSIP — Lemmy’s ashes will be “enshrined” at his favourite boozer, the legendary Rainbow Bar and Grill.
The late Motörhead frontman died aged 70 in December 2015 after battling health issues including prostate cancer and congestive heart failure.
And fans have been invited to “raise” a “very unique toast” to the metal and rock pioneer at the legendary rock’n’roll bar in West Hollywood, where they will be serving up a new Motörhead tipple in his honour.
The bar announced on Instagram: “Please join us as we enshrine Lemmy’s ashes at the Rainbow Bar and Grill. We also invite you to raise a very unique toast to Lemmy and Motorhead with the unveiling of brand new Motorhead Whiskey.”
Just days ago, it was revealed that an urn with some of his ashes in will be on display at Bloodstock festival at Catton Park in Derbyshire, England, this summer, before heading to Nottingham’s Rock City.
As well as being scattered at places he loved, Lemmy’s ashes have also been used to create tattoos for the band’s tour manager and production assistant, while Lemmy is also said to have requested them to be placed inside bullets and given to his loved ones.
Some of his remains were also scattered at the Wacken Open Air Festival in northern Germany where the band played many times over the years – with organisers putting on a special ‘Lemmy Forever’ memorial in his honour.
Festival co-organiser Thomas Jensen said: “Lemmy coming back to Wacken is an enormous honour for us – words can hardly express how enormous. We will create a place of remembrance for him that does justice to his significance for an entire genre and beyond.
“There has always been a special connection between Motörhead and Wacken Open Air; hardly any band has played here more often. The fact that his journey also ends here will forever hold a special meaning.”

Eminem to release new album in 2024, Dr Dre confirms

OHMYGOSSIP — Eminem is to release a new album this year, Dr. Dre has confirmed.
The 59-year-old music producer has revealed the 51-year-old rapper is to drop his first studio album for four years – a follow up to 2020’s ‘Music to be Murdered By’ – and Dre admitted he has some songs on the record.
Speaking on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’, he said: “Let me explain something to you right now.
“Eminem is working on his own album which is coming out this year and I actually talked to him and he said it was OK for me to make that announcement right here on this show.
“I’ve got songs on it and it’s fire. I’m actually going to hear the entire album for the first time tomorrow.
“He holds his music close to his chest, so I haven’t heard everything. I haven’t even heard everything complete that I’ve done, but I’m gonna hear it, and he’s putting out an album this year.”
In January, Eminem teased he was working on new music.
Speaking on SiriusXM radio station ‘Shade 45’, he said of his own music plans: “I’m working on a little something.”
But the ‘Lose Yourself’ hitmaker insisted he isn’t making a joint album with 50 Cent.
Addressing the speculation about him teaming up with the ‘Candy Shop’ rapper, he said: “I don’t know where that’s come from, but it’s crazy.
“I’m trying to get him to make a new album so bad.
“We need another 50 [Cent] album, like, really bad. 50’s on a roll right now. He’s been on a roll since the tour.
“I told him whatever the [redacted] he needs from me, I’m here. That [redacted] be crazy, though – an album with me and him.”
The pair – who have collaborated on several songs together over the years – are, however, known to be working together on a TV adaptation of Eminem’s movie ‘8 Mile’.

Let them be! Sir Paul McCartney used Beatles’ lyrics to urge Russian president Vladimir Putin to release Greenpeace activists

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Paul McCartney used The Beatles’ lyrics to urge Russian president Vladimir Putin to free Greenpeace activists.
The ‘Let It Be’ singer, 81, wrote to the 71-year-old despot as part of a campaign to release eco-activists charged with piracy in 2013 after they mounted a protest against a floating oil rig in the Pechora Sea on their Arctic Sunrise vessel.
A new BBC documentary titled ‘On Thin Ice: Putin V Greenpeace’ reveals Sir Paul wrote to Putin as part of the row that erupted after 28 campaigners and two freelance journalists were detained by Russia.
The singer wrote: “Forty-five years ago I wrote a song about Russia for The White Album, back when it wasn’t fashionable for English people to say nice things about your country.
“That song had one of my favourite Beatles lines in it: ‘Been away so long I hardly knew the place, gee it’s good to be back home.’
“Could you make that come true for the Greenpeace prisoners?”
The six-part BBC series will also feature unseen footage from during and after the protest as well as interviews and reconstructions.
Sir Paul has been a long-time backer of Greenpeace and supported its Save The Arctic campaign among other campaigns.
He also previously met Beatles fan Putin for tea in the Kremlin when he performed in Red Square in 2003.
Sir Paul’s other campaigning letters include a series of messages to Russian
authorities demanding the release of punk band and feminist protest group, Pussy Riot, whose members served two-year sentences for “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred”.
Their convictions followed a performance in the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow of a song protesting against Putin’s brutal rule.
Sir Paul said in one of his letters: “I have had a long relationship with the Russian people, and, with this in mind, I am making the following request in a spirit of friendship for my many Russian acquaintances who, like me, believe in treating people – all people – with compassion and kindness.”

Zayn Malik tell fans his new album is ‘raw and honest’

OHMYGOSSIP — Zayn Malik says his new album is “raw and honest”.
The former One Direction singer, 31, is putting out his fourth studio record ‘Room Under the Stairs’ on 17 May – his first since 2021’s ‘Nobody Is Listening’ – and added it marks a departure from his old sound.
He told the ‘Hot Ones’ online show: “The new album is a very different sound to anything I’ve ever put out before.
“It’s just really raw and honest and I hope people get that when they listen to it, I hope they get some insight into how I’m feeling and the things I’ve been going through over the last six or seven years while I’ve been writing this record, and that’s the most important thing for me, I just want people to feel that they get a connection with the record.”
Zayn has already released the artwork for ‘Room Under the Stairs’, which features a silhouette of his face and a blueprint of a house being built.
He added about the title: “I recorded most of it in a tiny little like shoe cabinet in my house, so I thought it was fitting to name it after that room so people can get even more sentiment into what the whole idea behind it was.”
Zayn also denied he pushes his tunes onto other people, adding: “I don’t like to just bump my music to people when they come over – ‘You have to listen to my music’– but if I’m having a moment to myself where I’m listening to things, I listen to my music quite a lot.”
Dad-of-one Zayn, who lives in Pennsylvania, and has daughter Khai, three, with model Gigi Hadid, 28, is set to release the first single from the album, ‘What I Am’ on 15 March and teased the album with a short video on Instagram.
He said in the clip: “I think the intention behind this album fully is for the listener to get more insight on me personally as a human being.
“My ambitions, my fears… and for them to have a connection with that. And that’s why it’s so raw, you know?
“There’s just me writing this. I didn’t want anyone else to be in between me and the music, and the music and the people listening to it.”

Guy Chambers thought he was going to ‘die’ while recording ‘Angels’ with Robbie Williams!

OHMYGOSSIP — Guy Chambers thought he was going to “die” while recording ‘Angels’ with Robbie Williams.
The songwriter, 61, who has also produced hits for Kylie Minogue, Tina Turner and Mel C, said he was suffering with a crippling sinus infection when he penned Robbie’s 1997 anthem, but was persuaded by his mum to go to a session with the singer to sort a demo of the track.
He told the Confetti Institute of Technologies’ annual Industry Week event Nottingham, UK, which brings together experts in music and technology to share their stories with the next generation of creatives: “‘Angels’ started in my bedroom where I had a little studio set up, and it went from there to the studio where we (I and Robbie) recorded it.
“Then we went on tour with it and we noticed how people reacted to it before it had even come out… .
“It was our second day of working together and I had a terrible sinus infection. I remember phoning my mother before, saying, ‘I really don’t think I can do this session. I’m going to cancel it.’
“She said, ‘Guy, I’ve got this feeling about today. Whatever you do, don’t cancel it.’
“(Robbie) started singing the ‘I sit and wait / Does an angel contemplate my fate’ line a cappella and I started to play on the piano. We wrote two verses and a chorus. The reason that song doesn’t have a middle eight is because of my sinus infection.
“The original demo for ‘Angels’ was just piano, his voice and me singing (backing vocals.)
“That’s it. There are no drums, there’s no guitar. Just very, very simple – and again, that was because I thought I was going to die (from my sinus infection.)
“I thought my head was going to explode.”
Guy added about how the track differs from Robbie’s other output: “It’s one of the few Robbie songs that isn’t very specific to his life. It’s a universal song. A lot of his lyrics aren’t very personal and have a lot of his humour in it and that kind of thing.
“Quirky would be the word I’d use. ‘Angels’ isn’t like that. ‘Angels’ is a spiritual song. It’s kind of a hymn. Therefore, I think because of that, it was this massive deal. We should have written more like that really, but we didn’t.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Dua Lipa says she has dreamed of performing at Glastonbury “all my life”.
The ‘One Kiss’ singer, 28, was announced on Thursday (14.03.24) as the Friday night headliner for the Somerset festival on 28 June along with other bill-toppers Coldplay and SZA.
She said on Instagram about the news: “FRIDAY NIGHT PYRAMID STAGE HEADLINE!!!! I have dreamt of this moment all my life.
“Something that lived only in my wildest dreams and highest manifestations !!! “I am so excited to see you all in my favourite place on earth and make it a night to remember!! Thank you @emily_eavis ~ GLASTO 4EVER.”
Hours later on her Instagram Dua appeared to hint at the artwork of her new album by posting series of professionally-shot images of herself swimming underwater, alongside the message: “Sometimes you gotta be in deep waters to find yourself.”
Dua has her third album ‘Radical Optimism’ coming out on 3 May, a few weeks before the festival.
This year will mark a record fifth time Coldplay have appeared there, and Shania Twain, 58, has been confirmed for the legends slot on Sunday (30.05.24) afternoon.

Also on the bill are US rockers The National and Idles, K-pop act Seventeen, Avril Lavigne, The Streets, Camila Cabello, Sugababes and The Last Dinner Party.
There have been reports festival organiser Emily Eavis, 44, has been hit by headaches over this year’s line-up after Stevie Wonder and other world-famous acts allegedly dropped out of headline slots at the last minute.

Jon Bon Jovi worried about touring after surgery

OHMYGOSSIP — Jon Bon Jovi doesn’t know if he will be able to tour again after undergoing surgery in 2022.
Although Bon Jovi will release new album ‘Forever’ in June, Jon admitted he is unsure if he will be able to tour the record.
Speaking in an interview with Mix 104.1 Boston, he said: “I don’t know about a tour. It is my desire to do a tour next year, but I’m just still recovering from a major surgery.
“Although I’m well on the road to recovery and was able to take my time and do a song a day when I made the record, my need, want, desire is to be able to do two-and-a-half hours a night four nights a week for months on end.”
And so I’m working towards that goal.”
Jon, 62, underwent a procedure known as medialisation after one of his vocal cords was found to be atrophying.
Meanwhile, Jon recently revealed that new single ‘Legendary’ is a tribute to his wife Dorothea, who he has been married to since 1989.
He said: “The brown-eyed girl, which of course is a Van Morrison nod, but not in this instance. It’s my wife. She has been there faithfully throughout this process: ‘And the brown-eyed girl/ She believes in me / Legendary.‘ There it is. That’s who and what I am at 62 years old.”

K-pop phenomenon Chung Ha admits she never thought she would become a solo artist

OHMYGOSSIP — Chung Ha never thought she would become a solo artist.
The 28-year-old K-pop sensation went her own way after her group I.O.I split and has just released her new songs ‘Eenie Meenie’ and ‘I’m Ready’ as a comeback after her 2022 album ‘Bare and rare’.
She told NME: “I mean, I never thought I’d be a soloist after my group I.O.I went their own ways.
“I thought I’d just be a dancer!
“But becoming a soloist and being brave enough to continue that – I think that’s one of my proudest moments.”
Chung Ha got her start in I.O.I after making it into the line-up via South Korean channel Mnet’s survival show ‘Produce 101’.
When they broke up less than a year later, Chung Ha – real name Kim Chan-mi – kickstarted a solo career that has seen her become one of K-pop’s most exciting stars.
She said about her solo direction: “I needed to figure out what I want – if I want to keep on changing myself or hop into a whole new genre? Do I want to act? Do I want to just study?”
Referring to herself by her English name, she added: “What I learned is, ‘Annie, you can never let this go, so why don’t you just give it one last try?’
“I had to make some crucial, difficult decisions along the way, [like] whether I should really study and try to embrace something really new or to scope back and face some challenges more.”
Chung Ha added more new music is in the pipeline, adding: “I’m focusing on the new era of myself right now. We’re trying to make an album at the end of the year, and we don’t know yet if they’re gonna be included in the album, or gonna be separate, or might not come out.
“I’m not really afraid of how I get ranked anymore.”

Kacey Musgraves’ near death experience

OHMYGOSSIP — Kacey Musgraves almost fell off a cliff while filming the ‘Deeper Well’ music video.
The singer/songwriter filmed the video in Iceland but admitted it was a perilous shoot and almost led to her demise.
She told Jimmy Fallon on ‘The Tonight Show’: “We picked literally the worst possible week to go. It was high wind advisories — I almost got blown off that cliff.
“I was almost like, ‘This video will be my death announcement’. It was a sheer drop down to the ocean. It was treacherous. Even the locals were like, ‘This is scary.’”
Meanwhile, Kacey recently revealed her new song ‘Cardinal’ is inspired by late country music star John Prine.
The 35-year-old singer was devastated by the loss of her friend and mentor in 2020 when he passed away aged 73 complications relating to COVID-19 – and Kacey explained he inspired the track which opens her new album ‘Deeper Well’.
In the CD zine made to accompany the record, she explained: “When cardinals appear, angels are near. Unexplainable things started happening and cardinals started showing up on my doorstep soon after my good friend and mentor passed, John Prine.
“He always had a big connection to cardinals and felt that they were messengers from the spirit realm. He inspired this song, no doubt.”
In ‘Cardinal’, she sings: “I saw a sign / Or an omen / On the branches / In the mornin’ / It was right after I lost a friend / Without warning / Words unsaid / Scarlet red / Cardinal / Are you bringin’ me a message from the other side / Cardinal / Are you tellin’ me I’m on somebody’s mind / Don’t leave me behind.”
Kacey was a huge fan of the country veteran and they eventually became friends and collaborators, with the singer joining him for a performance on a cruise in 2015 and on stage at a gig in in Colorado in 2017.

Josh Homme wants Them Crooked Vultures reunion

OHMYGOSSIP — Josh Homme wants Them Crooked Vultures to reunite.
The Queens of the Stone Age frontman recorded a self-titled album with the supergroup in 2009 and briefly reunited with Dave Grohl and Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones at a tribute concert for the Foo Fighters’ singer’s late bandmate Taylor Hawkins in 2022, and now he’s admitted he would “love to get the band back together” once more.
Asked about a potential comeback for the group during a Reddit AMA, he said in a video response: “It’s sort of not my job to put Vultures back together, that’s Dave’s job. My job is to dance around, write words, and try to write some music.
“I really want to — Dave knows this. I really want Vultures to get back together and do one more round.”
Dave admitted in 2021 he wanted to get back in the studio with Josh and John Paul.
He told Apple Music Hits: “I hope that someday we do it again.”
The ‘Learn To Fly’ hitmaker explained his “dream band” came about when he was invited to give the members of Led Zeppelin an award in London.
He added: “Them Crooked Vultures is a dream band for any drummer because I got to be a part of this three-piece rhythm section because Josh isn’t just a soloist.
“Josh plays the drums. He plays the guitar like a drummer and John Paul Jones is the greatest rock’n’roll bass player in the history of music. When we sat down to start playing, it was about 30 seconds to a minute and we realised this is a real band.”
Meanwhile, Josh previously hailed his friendship with Dave as “one of the longest romances” he’s ever had.
He told NME: “Dave has been one of the longest romances I’ve had that’s worked. He’s such a good guy, but I also love his dark side. I love mixing our watercolours together like that, just in conversation. We go to this place, that I won’t name, just to eat breakfast and waffles and talk about times.”
