Harry Styles wins Best International Artist at 2017 ARIA Awards

OHMYGOSSIP — Harry Styles used his speech at the ARIA (Annual Australian Recording Industry Association) Awards to celebrate Australia’s vote for marriage equality.
The 23-year-old pop star – who donned a snazzy purple suit – was awarded the prestigious Best International Artist 2017 for his debut self-titled album at the glitzy event held at The Star in Sydney on Tuesday night (28.11.17).
After collecting his prize, the ‘Signs of the Times’ singer thanked his fans for their support and their “recent political decision”, which means same-sex marriage is now legalised in the country.
He said: “Every time I’ve ever been in Australia over the last several years, everyone has always been so wonderful to me.
“Thank you for having me here and having me back.
“I obviously wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the fans who voted.
“Congratulations on your recent political decision.”
Actresses Rebel Wilson and Ruby Rose – who were in the country promoting their new film ‘Pitch Perfect 3’ – presented the award to Harry and just before he got up on stage, the One Direction star gave fellow pop star Lorde a kiss on the cheek after he beat her to win the accolade.
The heartthrob also sung his latest single ‘Kiwi’, however, his performance was plagued with technical issues and he was forced to start the song again.
Other notable winners on the night included Sia, who picked up the Best Female Artist gong for her track with Kendrick Lamar, ‘The Greatest’.

Chemical Brothers to headline Boardmasters Festival 2018

OHMYGOSSIP — The Chemical Brothers will headline Boardmasters Festival in 2018.
The ‘Galvanize’ hitmakers – electronic pioneers Ed Simons and Tom Rowlands – will perform on the main stage on Saturday August 11, at the music and surfing extravaganza held between August 8 and August 12, 2018 across Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay in Newquay in Cornwall, South West England.
Also on the bill are Craig David, Annie Mac, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Declan McKenna, Tom Walker, Craig David, Sam Fender, The Horrors, The Amazons and Bicep
Andrew Topham, Boardmasters Festival Director, said: “We are delighted to announce The Chemical Brothers as our first headline act for Boardmasters 2018. Following another sell-out year which saw the biggest Boardmasters ever this summer, we are excited to bring more of the most exciting names in music to Cornwall next August. Boardmasters’ unique fusion of the very best in international surfing and music helps to keep Cornwall firmly on the map as the festival sees unprecedented growth year on year. We can’t wait to welcome our incredible community for another summer of thrilling surf and music action across two stunning sites – Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay.”
‘Heartline’ singer Craig was due to perform at the festival in 2016, but was forced to cancel his appearance after getting stranded at Gatwick airport after his flight was cancelled.
The 36-year-old heartthrob took to his Instagram account to apologise to his fans, and said it was the first show in his 15-year career that he’d missed.
At the time, he wrote: “I’m so sorry guys. Completely gutted about this one. Was so excited to perform @boardmasters & tried everything to get there after the plane was cancelled.
“Unfortunately it ended up being something out of my control. The schedule wasn’t tight and everything would have been fine with ample time to get to the festival with time to spare when I arrived.
“If we had known it was going to be cancelled when I arrived at the airport in London in the afternoon there may have been a chance of getting there by other means, but being told by the airline that everything is on time, then one hour later “everything is fine” after they announced the 1st delay and then one hour later it’s cancelled completely messed that plan right up.
“So sorry guys. Hope you still enjoyed the festival & i get the chance to perform next year. (sic)”
However, Kano stepped in and took the headline spot on the Unleashed Stage.
This year, the event welcomed 50,000 festival-goers to enjoy world-class music from headliners Two Door Cinema Club, Jamiroquai and alt-J.
Tickets for 2018 are on sale now and more acts will be announced in due course.

Ed Sheeran’s Meowing-album dream

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran wanted to release a “Meowalbum” featuring his twin cats Dorito and Calippo.
The 26-year-old singer/songwriter was dead set on making a record where his songs are sung by the purrs and meows of pussies, but ditched his plans when he found out it had already been done before.
According to The Sun newspaper, he said: “I really, really wanted to make a Meowlbum, which is all my songs with Meow in it.
“My cats are twin sisters and amazing in their own way.”
Though a feline-featuring record is no longer on the cards, fans of the ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker can expect a ‘Despacito’ sounding version of his latest single ‘Perfect, which features a massive star, who will be unveiled later today (28.11.17).
The smash single from the flame-haired star’s latest LP ‘Divide could be about to shift up the charts with the updated Latin version due for release on December 1.
Ed recently revealed: “I’ve got something dropping next Friday. It’s a really f***ing big deal. And I’ll drop who I’m doing it with next Thursday.”
Asked what it will sound like, he said: “The vibe is that it’s a remix to ‘Perfect’. I’m just basically going to ‘Despacito’ Perfect.”
Ed played his final concert of the year at Dubai’s Autism Rocks Arena last week.
Before hitting the stage, the megastar enjoyed a tasty meal at Rihanna’s favourite Caribbean joint Miss Lily’s, which is located at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in the city.
According to The National, the ‘Castle on the Hill’ singer – who claimed he and his support act on the US leg, James Blunt, devoured 1,000 chicken wings between them on the road – ordered jerk corn, hot pepper shrimp and jerk chicken.
During his two-hour performance at the arena, he told the crowd he “didn’t expect to be on stage” after his cycling accident last month which saw him break both his arms.

Noel Gallagher hated brother Liam’s loud vocals in Oasis

OHMYGOSSIP — Noel Gallagher didn’t like his brother Liam Gallagher dominating Oasis’ sound with his “f***ing loud” vocals.
The ‘Fort Knox’ hitmaker says it was a “constant battle” in the Britpop group – which came to an end following a backstage bust-up before a festival appearance in Paris in 2009 – when Liam wanted his lead vocals to be the loudest instrument heard, as the 50-year-old guitarist prefers the lyrics to be a mystery to fans.
Noel fumed to Billboard magazine: “Yeah, well that’s a stylistic thing. All the records that I like – like The Stones, for instance, you can’t hear what [Sir] Mick Jagger’s f***ing saying. So you really have to f***ing listen and you’re engaged immediately.
“It was always the fight in Oasis.
“Liam was always, ‘Turn the vocals up! … You can’t hear the lyrics.’
‘I [was like], ‘I don’t want them to hear the f***ing lyrics. I want them to listen to the whole thing.’
“It’s usually a constant battle between the singer and the songwriter.”
The ‘Holy Mountain’ singer admits he has “driven” his label mad over the years because he always delivers his albums with a “low-vocal mix”.
He added: “I find a lot of music, the vocals are too f***ing loud. Just too loud.
“Maybe it’s because I’m a guitarist, but I drive the people at my record label to destruction when they’ll say, ‘Is there a vocal-up mix?’ I’m like, ‘This is it.’ And they’re like, ‘F***, it’s a bit quiet.’
“And even when I go back to the studio and have to turn the vocals up, it doesn’t sound right.
“The balance is not right. To me, that’s just a stylistic thing.”
Meanwhile, Noel recently admitted his eccentric French scissor player was partly to wind up his 45-year-old sibling.
The ‘Some Might Say’ songwriter recruited Le Volume Courbe singer Charlotte Marionneau to play gardening shears during his performance of ‘She Taught Me How To Fly’ with High Flying Birds – from his new album ‘Who Built The Moon?’ – on weekly UK music show ‘Later… With Jools Holland’.
And he also revealed that they were special “herb” cutting tools which have a “particular sound”.
Speaking to radio station XS Manchester, he confessed: “They aren’t just any scissors, they’re herb scissors with four blades so they have this particular sound.
“When she pulled them out in rehearsals I said to my bass player: ‘If that isn’t the greatest thing I’ve ever seen I don’t know what is.’
“He said: ‘Your kid’s going to glass himself’, and I thought you know what? Even for that it’s going to be worth it.”

Frank Ocean teases new album?

OHMYGOSSIP — Frank Ocean has teased that he has a new album to release.
The ‘Nikes’ hitmaker celebrated his 30th birthday on October 28 and has hinted that new music he record before he reached the milestone age could surface in the future.
In a note on his Tumblr page posted on Monday night (27.11.17), he wrote: “I made the album before 30. I just aint put that bitch out!”
He added: “quotes from an interview I haven’t given.”
The ‘Swim Good’ hitmaker has been hinting that he is working on new music for some time, though he previously said that he may never release another record.
Frank is no longer signed to a label, after splitting from Def Jam Recordings, and he said last year that he doesn’t feel the need to release a full collection of songs and that he might stick to a “half-a-song format”.
At the time, he said: “Because I am not in a record deal, I don’t have to operate in an album format. I can operate in half-a-song format.”
The ‘Super Rich Kids’ star also said it was important for him to self-release ‘Blonde’, because he didn’t have to worry about how it did in the charts like his previous album, 2012’s ‘Channel Orange’.
He said: “With this record [‘Blonde’] in particular, I wanted to feel like I won before the record came out, and I did, and so it took a lot pressure off of me about how the record even would perform after the fact. Once the goal is met, everything else is lagniappe. It’s not essential for me to have a big debut week, it’s not essential for me to have big radio records.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Novacane’ singer teased that he could be moving away from music to try something new that he is a “novice” at.
He said previously: “I believe that I am one of the best in the world at what I do, and that’s all I ever wanted to be.
“It’s more interesting for me to figure out how to be superior in areas where I’m naive, where I am a novice.”

Noel Gallagher: Writing sad songs is easy

OHMYGOSSIP — Noel Gallagher thinks it’s “easy” to write sad songs.
The 50-year-old singer-songwriter has penned some of the most popular tunes in modern British music, but Noel has largely avoided writing sad records and has instead focused his material on “joy and togetherness”.
Asked why he has avoided the songwriter cliche, Noel explained: “Because it’s easy. It’s easy to write sad songs. It’s very difficult pulling off this magic trick of joy and togetherness. And, you know, Oasis had it, where you go to an Oasis gig, you feel good about yourself.
“U2 have got this thing where, if you go to one of their gigs, not only do you feel good about yourself, but you feel good about the next person too. It’s difficult to do, which is why many people don’t want to f***ing try to do it because it can be really cheesy.”
The former Oasis star said that his songwriting style has evolved by accident rather than design.
He claimed, too, that he’d run the risk of sounding “cheesy” if he made a conscious effort to make upbeat songs.
The chart-topping star – who recently released his latest album, ‘Who Built the Moon?’ – told Billboard: “I find that I do it better accidentally than if I’m trying to … You know, if I was to sit down tomorrow and say, ‘There’s too much f***ing pain in the world, I’m gonna write a song about the beauty of life.’ It would cheesy as f**, but accidentally somehow it seeped into this.
“I’m not happier now than I’ve been in the last 10 years, but these backing tracks and the tunes were coming out so up and there’s a lot of hope in the records that it’s just kind of what I was writing. I can pull that trick off accidentally – without even knowing.”

Bruce Springteen extends Broadway residency by four months

OHMYGOSSIP — Bruce Springsteen has extended his Broadway show until June 2018.
The ‘Born To Run’ star was originally booked to play an eight-week residency at the Walter Kerr Theatre in New York City, but before it even opened in October, it was announced he was extending the run until February 2018.
Now ‘Springsteen on Broadway’ has been extended by another four months, until June 30th 2018.
Bruce has also tweeted to reassure fans who had been unsuccessful in securing tickets in the original online sale that they will not have to re-register and will be given priority when it comes to buying tickets for the extended shows.
The 68-year-old rocker, who is also known as The Boss, opened his Broadway residency on October 3rd by dedicating the show to Tom Petty, who had recently passed away.
At the preview night, Bruce – famous for playing with The E Street Band – played 13 tracks, opening with ‘Growin’ Up’ and ‘My Hometown’, and highlights included ‘Born in the U.S.A’., ‘Dancing in the Dark’ and closing number ‘Born to Run’.
Meanwhile, despite being among the best-selling musicians of all time, Bruce admitted earlier this year that he still suffers from stage fright.
He previously explained: “It varies from night to night but whenever you’re going out in front of a crowd of any size, your body knows it.
“This is what I do. This is the only thing I do. This is the only thing I’m qualified to do. So it matters how I do it at night.
“There’s a lot of anticipatory anxiety which then translates into a raw shot of adrenaline once you’re out there. We come out to press our case very hard, about what we think about everything, I suppose, and life itself. And so it’s challenging nightly.”

Katy Perry accidentally hits fan in face with plastic eyeball

OHMYGOSSIP — Katy Perry accidentally hit a fan in the face with an inflatable eyeball at her recent concert in Salt Lake City.
The 32-year-old pop superstar was performing ‘Roar’ as part of her ‘Witness’ tour at the Vivint Smart Home Arena when she threw one of the props into the crowd, only for it to smack the concert-goer right in the middle of her face and knock her phone out of her hand.
However, the shocked fan didn’t mind taking a knock and was “laughing uncontrollably”.
Recalling the bizarre incident, the fan said: “Some people were throwing them around, but one landed right by Katy and she kicked it! I didn’t realise that she was kicking it right at my face until it was too late.
“The ball hit me right square in the face and knocked my phone out of my hands. I was so shocked and started laughing hysterically.
“Everyone around me asked me if I was okay and I was just laughing uncontrollably.”
It comes after Katy leapt into the arms of fans after becoming stuck on a prop dangling high above the crowd after performing on a floating planet hanging from the roof at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville last month, when she became stranded in mid-air.
And Katy even encouraged her fans to film the incident because she knew it was a “whole big deal” that would quickly go viral.
Katy told the crowd in a video posted on YouTube: “I’m literally stuck. This is the first time I’ve been stuck in space!
“This thing is stuck right now, they’re lowering me down – they’re talking to me in my ear right now. It’s a whole big deal – you’d better pick your phone up because this is a YouTube moment. I could be stuck here forever!
“They said they’re going to lower me down. I’m coming down, I swear it was beautiful, you guys made it look s magnificent. Honestly – y’all are the real stars right now.
“I do not want to smash you by sitting on you with a planet. I guess I’m just going to have to get down and walk amongst my people. I love this so much. This is what you get for trying to bring out all of space to Nashville.
“Shall I just jump?”
She then crowd-surfed off the planet to rapturous applause from the crowd and was escorted back onto the stage.

The 2018 BRIT Award by Sir Anish Kapoor is rectangle

OHMYGOSSIP — The BRIT Awards 2018 award has been designed by famous sculptor Sir Anish Kapoor.
The clear red design sees Britannia immortalised inside a rectangle – which could prove difficult for stars who win multiple to hold – and will be handed to the biggest pop stars in the world at next February’s Mastercard-sponsored ceremony.
On the honour of being chosen to create the unique work of art, Sir Anish Kapoor said: “I am pleased to have designed the BRIT award for 2018.
“Sculpture is often a process of positive and negative form. I have made the award using both.”
Kapoor’s work includes his contribution to the London 2012 Olympic Games, a 178 metre high sculpture ArcelorMittal Orbit, Britain’s largest piece of public art, which is still located at the capital’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
The 63-year-old artist has received several accolades during his four-decade career including the Turner Prize, the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and the Padma Bhushan (India’s third highest civilian honour), as well as the LennonOno Grant for Peace and the Genesis Prize.
BRITs Chairman and Chairman & CEO of Sony Music UK and Ireland, Jason Iley, has praised Kapoor for his unique design which has completely “re-imagined” the award.
He said: “Sir Anish has created some of the most adventurous and memorable works of our life time which is reflected in the new BRIT award.
“He constantly pushes boundaries and challenges the norm and I love the way he has re-imagined this year’s award.
“The beauty of this award is that it challenges perspectives. Every which way you look at it, you discover more.”
Last year, saw the late Dame Zaha Hadid design the award, in what was one of the last commissions accepted by the British/Iraqi architect before her shock death from a heart attack at the age of 65 in March 2016.
The BRIT design project was led by Maha Kutay, Director at Zaha Hadid Design, and Niamh Byrne, on behalf of The BRIT Awards, since Hadid personally accepted and commenced on the brief in January of last year.
The 2018 extravaganza – which marks the 38th awards show – will be broadcast live on ITV on February 21.

AC/DC fans want band to get Christmas number one

OHMYGOSSIP — A campaign to get AC/DC to Christmas number one has been reignited following the death of founding member Malcolm Young.
The 64-year-old guitar legend tragically passed away earlier this month – following a lengthy time living with dementia – and fans of the iconic metal band have since flooded the owners of the ‘AC/DC for Christmas No.1’ Facebook page, with requests to reactive the petition to get them at the top of the charts this festive season.
In 2013, ‘Highway to Hell’ was the track fans wanted to see at number one.
However, it only made it to number four, and was beaten by ‘X Factor’ winner Sam Bailey and her cover of ‘Skyscraper’.
A recent poll carried out by the page, ended up with 92 per cent saying they want to see the rock titans – currently comprised of Angus Young, Chris Slade and Stevie Young – back in the charts.
The post read: “After the sad news of Malcolm’s loss today and producer and brother George last month, our inbox has been overwhelmed today with suggestions to bring back the page’s main aim … to put AC/DC at the top of the Christmas chart.
“We did an amazing job in 2013 …giving the band its highest ever UK single chart placing (#4)…but who would be up for having another crack at putting an Acca Dacca classic above an ‘X Factor’ nobody in tribute to Malcolm, George, and Bon? (sic)”
There was also a separate survey run on Twitter for which song should be the chart-topping contender.
‘For Those About To Rock (We Salute You)’ was the most popular, receiving 35 per cent of the vote.
‘Whole Lotta Rosie was not far behind with 34 per cent, and ‘It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll)’ got 31 per cent.
Fans of the band who want to help out will need to purchase ‘For Those About To Rock (We Salute You)’ for 99 pence between December 15 to 11.59pm on December 21 or stream it 150 times.

Louis Tomlinson to perform new song Miss You on X Factor

OHMYGOSSIP — Louis Tomlinson will release his third solo single ‘Miss You’ on Thursday (30.11.17).
The One Direction Star took to Twitter over the weekend to reveal the much-anticipated follow-up to ‘Back to You’ with Bebe Rexha and 2016’s ‘Just Hold On’ with Steve Aoki will come out ahead of his first live performance of the new track on ‘The X Factor’ final on Saturday (02.12.17).
He wrote: “New single ‘Miss You’ will be out this Friday with a performance on the @thexfactor final on the Saturday ! Can’t wait for this one ! #missyou (sic)”
Louis’ return to the ITV talent show – which he was a contestant on in with One Direction in 2010 – will come just over a year since he dedicated his performance of ‘Just Hold On’ to his late mother Johannah Deakin, who passed away following a battle with leukaemia days before.
The title ‘Miss You’ suggests the new song is about the loss of his parent.
The 25-year-old singer previously said performing on ‘The X Factor’ so soon after his mum died was the most difficult moment of his career.
He said previously: “I think in general, doing ‘The X-Factor’ with the Steve Aoki song was the most difficult time, but also weirdly the most rewarding as well. I definitely felt like I couldn’t do it, and then I definitely felt the support from everyone around me, the friends and family but also the fans and people outside of that.”
Meanwhile, though all of One Direction – also comprised of Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Harry Styles – are busy on their solo careers, they will be “coming back around at some point”.
Asked if it has always been an aim of his to be a solo artist after he first entered ‘The X Factor’ as a solo artist, Liam said recently: “It’s always been a dream. I wouldn’t say it’s always been an aim. Once One Direction started, it was just the passion. It was fantastic and it still is. It’s coming back around at some point, I’m sure.”

Gene Simmons won’t work with Vinnie Vincent again

OHMYGOSSIP — Gene Simmons won’t work with Vinnie Vincent again.
The 68-year-old rock legend doesn’t ever want to re-team with his former KISS band member – who replaced lead guitarist Ace Frehley in 1982 but was only with the heavy metal outfit for two years – because he doesn’t need “dark clouds” in his life.
When asked if he would work with Vinnie, Gene said: “No. No. He’s a very talented guy. Everybody’s got their troubles in life. You can’t fix everything. I’m a big supporter of his talent. You know, go with God. Enjoy life, be happy.
“But I don’t need more dark clouds over my life. It’s nice and calm.”
Gene insisted KISS – who are also made up of Paul Stanley, Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer – have a “professional” way of doing things and wouldn’t want that to be interrupted.
Speaking to The Aquarian Weekly, he added: “Eric and Tommy have been with us for a very long time, and it’s professional to the highest degree. Everybody is happy to be together.
“Everybody shows up on time. There’s no, ‘The dog ate my homework.’ None of that crap.”
After leaving the band, Vinnie claimed Gene and Paul owned him royalties for work on the group’s 1983 album ‘Lick It Up’, but a Los Angeles federal judge later ruled against him, awarding the two KISS band members $66,400 in attorney’s fees and $15,400 in costs.
Vinnie, 65, is due to appear as a special guest at the Atlanta Kiss Expo in January.

Eric Clapton to play London’s Hyde Park

OHMYGOSSIP — Eric Clapton is to headline British Summer Time Hyde Park 2018.
The 72-year-old rocker first performed at the London location in 1969 as his debut with new group Blind Faith, and he can’t wait to return.
Eric said: “I have happy memories of performing in Hyde Park in the past and I’m really looking forward to playing there again – the whole atmosphere is very special.”
The ‘Wonderful Tonight’ star – who also performed at the venue in 1996 and in 2008 – will be supported by Santana, Steve Winwood, and Gary Clark Jr. as part of Barclaycard presents British Summer Time on July 8th, 2018.
Tickets for the gig go on general sale on Friday (01.12.17) at 9am with more guest performers still to be announced.
Eric will follow in the footsteps of The Rolling Stones, Carole King, Stevie Wonder and Tom Petty, who have all headlined the Great Oak Stage since the British Summer Time event was launched in 2013.
Also performing next summer will be Pink Floyd star Roger Waters on Friday July 6th, Michael Buble, making his only performance of 2018, on Friday July 13th, and Bruno Mars on Saturday July 14th.
Eric recently admitted he thought the the era of the guitar may be “over”.
The rock legend said: “My belief in music is it’s all good. It’s all good. Even stuff that doesn’t appear to be so, it’s all good … I don’t know. Maybe the guitar is over.”

Steve Aoki has baking team

OHMYGOSSIP — Steve Aoki has a “team” of cake makers who accompany him around the world.
The 39-year-old DJ is known for smashing baked goods in the faces of revellers at his shows and he has a team of culinary experts who craft the creations to make them the ideal consistency for smashing.
He said: “It can be as many as 10 [cakes per show]. The crowd now expect it from the show.
“We have a special team of cake makers that travel the world with us getting the consistency just right – the desired effect is explosive rather than edible.”
While Steve also likes to spray his audience with champagne, he has discovered they don’t welcome getting wet as much if it’s just with water.
He told GQ magazine: “Oddly enough people differentiate between being wet from a magnum of champagne to the face, to wet from a Super Soaker filled with tepid tap water.
“We used to bring out all these water pistols and just hose the audience down but for whatever reason people didn’t dig it.”
Steve previously insisted he would never throw a cake at anyone who didn’t want it.
He said: “The way I pick who gets caked is generally by who shows me the most energy and is screaming for it.”
And though he claimed the unusual feature was his form of expression, he had considered putting a stop to the messy antics because of the abuse he received about it.
He said: “I still can’t help but ask myself… should I stop caking people? Will that stop the haters from hating? Stop giving the trolls more content to target me with? I even ask myself, are the cakes and the rafts taking away from the art of my culture, DJing? I’m sure many people feel that I am because things I do are not part of the norm.”

Noel Gallagher’s songs get rejected if they sound like Oasis tracks

OHMYGOSSIP — Noel Gallagher’s songs for his third solo album have been rejected by producer David Holmes because they sound like Oasis tracks.
The 50-year-old singer and songwriter – who quit Oasis in 2009 after he and his brother Noel had a blazing row backstage at a concert – has admitted he has penned a number of records for Noel Gallagher’s high Flying Birds latest LP ‘Who Built The Moon?’, which David has “refused” to release if they had been written outside of the studio and are “remotely” similar to hits the English rock band created.
Speaking to Frank Skinner on Absolute Radio, the ‘Wonderwall’ hitmaker said: “My producer, David Holmes, he just refused any song that I’d written outside of the studio, he didn’t want to know. He wanted to be there, at the genesis of this idea, and then he would point me in a different direction.
“Every time I would come up with stuff that sounded remotely like Oasis, or what I’d done before, he would stop me and say, ‘We’ve heard all that, you can do that next time. Why don’t we focus on this germ of electronic music, and turn that into a song?'”
Noel – who has 17-year-old daughter Anais with ex-partner Meg Matthews, as well as sons Donovan, 10, and Sonny, seven, with his current wife Sara MacDonald – found it “frustrating” getting his work rebuked, because he could have released an extra “two albums” easily if they were not scrapped.
He continued: “And I found it, for the first 18 months, 2 years, quite frustrating, because I’ve got a bank of songs at home, completed, ready to go out, I’ve got another two albums worth, easy. I’ve got a lot of songs that just need knocking into shape.”
And the only reason Noel went along with David’s words of wisdom was because of the sweet complements he would receive from him, which boosted his ego.
Noel added: “But David Holmes would stroke my ego by saying, ‘The acoustic guitar thing, you’re the greatest! You’re the best in the world, nobody can touch you, but… you know, I don’t like it!’ …okay, well, okay – pass me the synthesiser.”
But when Noel is in the creative process he doesn’t think about his fans and what other listeners want to hear.
He said: “[Fans] they do have a sense of ownership of your thing. It’s like with this record now, that’s coming out, it’s quite different to what I do, it’s more electronic, people singing in French. The thing with Oasis is, it generates a new generation of fans every five or six years, and it feels like there’s a generation that’s come along now and they’re really young, and they have an image of what they think you should be and they take ownership of it.
“It’s definitely nice and all that, but when you’re in the studio creating something, you can’t think: what do my fans want? You can’t think that. So, when you go to do the gigs, as long as you can play what you want, then you play what they want as well, you know, you give them a blast from the past then you’re all good.”
