Paul McCartney’s biggest fear

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Paul McCartney has had the same dream that he’s flopping on stage for 50 years.
The Beatles legend might have been attracting massive crowds to his shows for more than five decades, but the 75-year-old musician is left in ” cold sweats” at the thought of turning up to perform and stadiums full of people getting up and leaving.
McCartney – who has four adult children with late wife Linda and 13-year-old Beatrice with second spouse Heather Mills – admitted: “Ever since I started performing there is a dream I still have which is you are in a stadium playing with The Beatles or with this band and people start leaving and it is like ‘OK what are we doing wrong’ we try to pull out the big ones but they’re still leaving. You wake in a cold sweat.”
The ‘Come Together’ hitmaker is currently in Australia for his sold-out ‘One On One Tour’.
It’s the first time in nearly 25 years that McCartney has paid a visit to the country, the last time was for his ‘The New World Tour’ in 1993.
The ‘Four Five Seconds’ star still looks forward to performing all of the iconic Liverpool band’s classic hits as he likes to “rediscover” them each night.
He’s particularly fond of the uplifting reaction he gets from playing 1968’s ‘Hey Jude’, which was originally called ‘Hey Jules’, and was written by McCartney to comfort John Lennon’s son, Julian, during the late frontman’s divorce from his mum Cynthia Lennon, which was granted in November 1968 on the grounds of Lennon’s adultery with his now-widow Yoko Ono.
On playing the tracks time and time again, McCartney – who with Ringo Starr are the only surviving members of the band, which was also comprised of the late George Harrison – told ABC: “It’s like rediscovering them.
“When everyone is singing ‘Hey Jude’ it is like we all don’t care about the bad news and are concentrating on this great little moment.”

Ed Sheeran is Spotify’s most streamed artist of 2017

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran is Spotify’s most streamed artist of 2017.
The ‘Castle on the Hill’ hitmaker topped the list of artists on the streaming service, thanks to the release of his hit album ‘÷’.
‘Shape of You’ was the top track streamed in both the UK and globally with 1.4 billion streams whilst ‘÷’ was the most streamed album at 3.1 billion streams.
Ed’s ‘Castle on the Hill’ and ‘Galway Girl’ also made the top five most streamed tracks in the UK as well as Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber’s ‘Despacito’ and French Montana’s ‘Unforgettable’.
And on the top streamed albums, Ed’s previous release ‘X’ also sat at fifth position in the top five alongside Drake’s ‘More Life’, The Weeknd’s ‘Starboy’ and grime star Stormzy’s ‘Gang Signs & Prayer’.
Stefan Blom, Spotify’s Chief Content Officer, said: “Ed Sheeran absolutely dominated this year with the release of his record-breaking album, Divide. Congratulations to Ed on an amazing achievement.”
Ed topped the most streamed UK artists worldwide list alongside the likes of Coldplay, Calvin Harris, Dua Lipa and ZAYN whilst in the female artists’ category, Rihanna took home the prize for the third year in a row with Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and Sia following closely behind. Drake, The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar and Daddy Yankee were the most streamed male artists alongside Ed.
Camila Cabello, Harry Styles and Liam Payne – who all went solo this year – were the top breakout artists for the year whilst Coldplay, Maroon 5 and Linkin Park – who tragically lost their frontman Chester Bennington this year – were the most streamed groups.

The Killers announce 2018 UK stadium shows

OHMYGOSSIP — The Killers have announced two huge UK stadium shows for 2018.
The ‘Somebody Told Me’ hitmakers – made up of Brandon Flowers, Dave Keuning, Mark Stoermer and Ronnie Vannucci, Jr. – will take to the stage at Swansea’s Liberty Stadium on June 23, 2018 in Wales and then head to north west England to Bolton’s Macron Stadium for a show on July 13, 2018.
Confirming the news on their official Twitter account, the group wrote: “Double the trouble, twice the fun. We’ve added two more shows in the UK. Tickets on sale Friday (sic)”
Tickets for both gigs will be available from 9.30am on Friday (08.12.17).
This comes shortly after The Killers played two dates at London’s The O2 on November 27 and 28.
Earlier this year, the group performed a secret set at Glastonbury, taking to the stage in the John Peel tent on the final day of the annual music festival at Worthy Farm in Somerset, south west England.
Speaking to the crowd, Brandon said: “It’s good to be here. They say you play the John Peel Stage twice in your career – once on the way up, and once on the way down. It’s great to be back.”
They wowed those fans lucky enough to be in attendance with hits including ‘Human’, ‘All These Things That I’ve Done’ and ‘When We Were Young’, while also introducing new single ‘The Man’ by saying: “This one is for the ladies.”
The Killers also played British Summer Time Hyde Park in London earlier this summer before going on a 12-date UK tour in November, which included their two O2 shows.

Camila Cabello had to ‘prove’ herself as an artist

OHMYGOSSIP — Camila Cabello felt she had to “prove” to her collaborators that she was a real artist.
The ‘Havana’ hitmaker felt it was important to make sure her fellow artists know that she was a great songwriter as well as a singer and says hitting the studio with the likes of Diplo and Shawn Mendes “taught her a lot”.
She said: “I just really wanted to prove to people that I had something to say and that I wasn’t just a singer, that I was an artist, that I had a point of view and knew exactly the song that I wanted to write or the lyrics. The first few weeks were me really wanting to prove that to people and prove to myself to. People I was writing with were like, that’s actually a really great lyric, or that’s a really good idea, or oh yeah we should do that!
“That made me less and less insecure to the point where by the end of it, I feel like the last studio session I went to, I would come in and know exactly what I want and not be afraid to say it. And all of that is just experience and finding confidence in yourself. All the people I worked with were so nice and encouraging. It taught me a lot definitely.”
And the 20-year-old singer has recalled how she suffered from acid reflux when she hit the studio with Diplo.
Speaking to MTV, she added: “I think in the beginning it was really nerve-wracking. I remember the first time I had a writing session with Diplo, I was so nervous that I got acid reflux. Emotionally, I can just like feel it in body so it was just like that for the first few months. So the first time I went into the studio with him, I was so nervous.”

Elton John on Noel Gallagher’s Beatles style

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Elton John has told Noel Gallagher his new album reminds him of The Beatles.
The former Oasis musician is a guest on the latest edition of the music legend’s Beats 1 radio show ‘Rocket Hour’ and Elton was not afraid to tell Noel just what he thinks of ‘Who Built The Moon’.
Elton, 70, told Noel: “I can hear certain things on this album that you probably wouldn’t. I can hear a bit of T-Rex. There’s a bit of Steve Miller I can hear. I can hear Beatles things obviously. But it’s all things that I love.”
A long-time criticism of Oasis’ music by some is that it is too derivative of The Beatles.
Overall, the ‘Rocket Man’ star is very positive of Noel’s new record, telling him he can’t stop playing it.
Elton said: “It’s one of these albums that you just can’t stop playing and it makes you happy.”
The 50-year-old High Flying Birds frontman agreed, saying he wanted it to be a positive album.
Noel said: “Yeah that was my overriding feeling about it. When I finished the thing it was like, there’s an overriding sense of joy in it which I’ve been saying in all the interviews is almost revolutionary these days because if you’re a guy playing a guitar in a band you’re almost obliged to write about the news. And the news, as we all know, is boring, it’s the same old same old. To get that amount of joy in a record is unique these days I think.”
The ‘Wonderwall’ star recently claimed it was easy to write sad songs.
The ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’ has largely avoided writing sad records and has instead focused his material on “joy and togetherness”.
Asked why he has avoided the songwriter cliche, Noel said: “Because it’s easy. It’s easy to write sad songs. It’s very difficult pulling off this magic trick of joy and togetherness. And, you know, Oasis had it, where you go to an Oasis gig, you feel good about yourself.
“U2 have got this thing where, if you go to one of their gigs, not only do you feel good about yourself, but you feel good about the next person too. It’s difficult to do, which is why many people don’t want to f***ing try to do it because it can be really cheesy.”

Charli XCX teases new mixtape

OHMYGOSSIP — Charli XCX has teased a new star-studded mixtape.
The 25-year-old pop beauty – whose real name is Charlotte Emma Aitchison – only released her third compilation ‘Number 1 Angel’ in March, but already has plans to get the likes of Carly Rae Jepsen, ALMA, Brooke Candy, Tove Lo, Mykki Blanco and Tommy Cash to collaborate with her for the new project.
Writing on Twitter on Sunday (03.12.17), Charli hinted: “imagine if i did another mixtape with @carlyraejepsen @tovelo @almacyber @cupcakke_rapper @brookecandy @pabllovittar @carolineplz @jaybumaom @kimpetras @dorianelectra @mykkiblanco tommy cash @momomoyouth and @agcook404… that would be pretty cool right..?? (sic)”
It would come as no surprise to Charli’s fans as in 2012, the ‘Boys’ hitmaker dropped two mixtapes in the form of ‘Super Ultra’ and ‘Heartbreaks and Earthquakes’.
Meanwhile, the ‘Boom Clap’ singer recently revealed her desire to form a female super-group called The Tampon Girls, which would conquer the global pop charts.
Although she didn’t specify exactly who she would like in the line-up, Charli listed the artists she admires who could be potential candidates, including her recent tour mate Halsey.
The British star said: “I have a dream of starting a band called The Tampon Girls.
“People I admire are like Taylor Swift, amazing songwriter. Katy Perry, amazing songwriter. Lady Gaga, amazing songwriter. Only Rihanna has no regrets. She’s perfect.”
Charli also spilled that she had been having recording sessions with former Fifth Harmony star Camila Cabello and admitted she was blown away by her vocal talents and writing ability.
She said: “I was recently doing sessions with Camila Cabello, and she’s amazing. I had known her as part of Fifth Harmony, which was put together on a TV show, so I was wrongly sceptical about how much she would write. She just blew me away.”
Fans are also waiting for Charli’s long-awaited third studio LP – the follow-up to 2014’s ‘Sucker’ – but it could take a while as she has been forced to rewrite her whole record after she fell victim to an album leak.
However, Charli insists it hasn’t set her back too much, as she is a speedy songwriter.
She said recently: “My email got hacked and people leaked most of it, so I think I’m just going to start again.
“But that’s fun for me, anyway I write fast so I’m not really worried about anything.”

Isle of Wight Festival headliners announced

OHMYGOSSIP — Isle of Wight Festival will be headlined by Liam Gallagher, The Killers, Depeche Mode and Kasabian for its 50th anniversary.
The prestigious Newport event returns in June 2018 to celebrate half a century as one of the UK’s biggest music extravaganzas, and organisers have announced a stacked lineup befitting of the occasion.
The four acts have been named as headliners, with Kasabian rounding off the Friday night on June 22, while Depeche Mode and Liam Gallagher will have joint billing the following evening, with The Killers concluding the festival on June 24.
Kasabian last headlined the event in 2011, having first played it four years previously, and they admitted the history of the site means a great deal to them.
They said: “We’re hugely honoured to play at the Isle of Wight Festival. It’s kind of a big deal Jimi Hendrix played in the 70’s, 50 years on and we’re playing it!
“That’s pretty phenomenal, thanks for having us back! We promise Friday night will be the one!”
Meanwhile, further names have been confirmed with Blossoms, The Script, James Bay and Van Morrison all part of the first announcement.
Isle of Wight Festival promoter John Giddings described the milestone as a “special year” for the event, which he revived in 2002 more than 30 years after the Isle of Wight County Council Act 1971 prevented ‘overnight open-air gatherings of more than 5,000 people’ without a special licence from the council.
He said: “This year’s line-up brings together the best bands of the moment.
“This is a special year as it celebrates 50 years since the festival’s first incarnation so it’s fantastic to celebrate with returning artists and those appearing for the first time.”

Laura Mvula wants Rolling Stones collaboration

OHMYGOSSIP — Laura Mvula wants to collaborate with The Rolling Stones after meeting Ronnie Wood.
The ‘Green Garden’ singer might have been dropped by her label via email earlier this year, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t making new music.
On Sunday (03.12.17), the 31-year-old beauty – who recently released a reworked version of The Jackson 5’s hit ‘Dancing Machine’ for Naughty Boy’s project ‘Naughty Motown’ – shared a selfie with the ‘Satisfaction’ group’s multi-instrumentalist Wood on her Instagram Story, and teased her followers with the caption: “Collab? (sic)”
Meanwhile, a Rolling Stones musical is reportedly in the works.
Workshops took place in London’s West End to search for stars to appear in a potential production based on the legendary band, but members Mick Jagger, 74, Keith Richards, 73, Charlie Watts, 76, and Wood, 70, are yet to give the show their backing.
A source said recently: “The idea came from top theatre execs who know the concept of a Stones musical has the potential to be a worldwide hit.
“But they know the show has to be outstanding for the band members to back it.
“Only then will it ever see the light of day – and at the same time make the rockers as absolute fortune.”
Those lucky enough to audition for the project were said to be hand-picked to try out.
The source added: “The workshops are being kept very much under wraps and only incredible talent is being invited to attend.”
It is not yet known whether the musical would cover the band’s career or use their back catalogue, which dates back to 1962 when they formed in London, for a different story.
While the veteran rockers could earn a fortune from a musical, they won’t need the cash as it was previously reported they will earn £2 million from a new album after their contract was renewed by Universal.
The group are said to be planning to release a live compilation album in time for Christmas 2017, and follow that up with a new studio LP to coincide with the end of their European tour, which concluded in Paris on October 22.
A source recently said: “Both Mick and Keith would rather be carried off stage in a coffin than give up their great love – writing and making music.
“They were experimenting in the studio earlier this year, and everything just gelled. They ended up with around 15 tracks which they have cut down to album-length, and when the label execs heard it they were thrilled.”
The Rolling Stones’ latest album, ‘Blue and Lonesome’ – a collection of blues covers – was their 25th record and dropped in December 2016.

New Kids On The Block drop three new festive tunes

OHMYGOSSIP — New Kids On The Block have released three new festive tunes for Christmas.
The ‘I’ll Be Loving You’ hitmakers – Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, Danny Wood and Jordan and Jonathan Knight -are re-releasing May’s ‘Thankful’ EP with three brand new Yule Tide tracks: ‘Unwrap You’, ‘December Love’ and ‘One Night of Peace’.
‘Thankful – Unwrapped’ is available now to stream or download across all digital service providers.
They’ve also announced the ‘Unwrapped’ documentary featuring footage from this summer’s hugely successful ‘Total Package Tour’.
Elijah Wahlberg and fellow filmmaker Noah Vera spent time on the road capturing behind the scenes footage and exclusive interviews with each of the guys, bringing the unique perspective that only Elijah & Noah have.
The documentary will be released on NKOTB.com on Saturday (09.12.17).
Earlier this year, Donnie said that he’d like to see his brother and former bandmate Mark Wahlberg rejoin the band.
The Hollywood actor quit in 1988 before they got famous with their hits ‘Hanging Tough’ and ‘You Got It (The Right Stuff)’.
Donnie would settle at his sibling reforming his hip-hop outfit Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, who were signed to Atlantic Records from 1989 to 1993, and had a hit with ‘Good Vibrations’, which made it to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1991.
The 48-year-old star said previously: ”We got back together in 2008, and I think the entire band can agree we have had more success this time round than when we were younger and we are really enjoying it now.
”We really are having a lot of fun and, yeah I would love to see Mark perform with New Kids.
”Or even perform as Marky Mark just one more time – it would be a lot of fun and he’s got some hidden talents.”
During their career spanning more than three decades New Kids On The Block have released six studio albums.
The ‘Thankful – Unwrapped’ track-listing is as follows:
1. ‘Heartbeat’
2. ‘Thankful’
3. ‘One More Night’
4. ‘Hard (Not Luvin U)’
5. ‘Still Sounds Good’
6. ‘We Were Here’ Featuring DMX
7. ‘Unwrap You’
8. ‘December Love’
9. ‘One Night of Peace’

Jorja Smith wins 2018 BRITs Critics’ Choice Award

OHMYGOSSIP — Jorja Smith is the recipient of 2018’s BRITS Critics’ Choice Award.
Drake’s protégé beat off stiff competition from London rapper Stefflon Don and R&B star Mabel to receive the prestigious accolade.
The ‘Get Together’ singer said of the news: “I cannot believe it, it’s been an unforgettable 2017 during which I’ve fulfilled so many of my dreams and this is such a special way to end the year… and to be part of an all-female shortlist alongside Mabel and Stefflon Don, who’ve both had incredible 2017s, makes it even better! There’s lots more to come in 2018 from all of us and I will do my best to make it another memorable year!”
BRITs Chairman and Chairman & CEO of Sony Music UK & Ireland Jason Iley added:
“The Critics’ Choice Award has an incredible track record of showcasing some of the most exciting up-and-coming artists for the last ten years. Jorja Smith has a huge future ahead of her and looks set to follow in the footsteps of the most successful past Critics’ Choice winners.”
Stefflon Don and Mabel have had exceptional years too.
‘Envy Us’ hitmaker Stefflon – whose fans are called dons – came to prominence this year after collaborating with US pop star Demi Lovato and Jax Jones on ‘Instruction’ and the rapper said she was feeling “lit” about being shortlisted for the prestigious accolade previously handed to the likes of Ellie Goulding, James Bay and Adele.
She said of the honour: “I am so excited to be nominated for this amazing award. A big shout out to all my fans and dons for their support. 2017 has been lit and I can’t wait for 2018! Mad love to you all.”
The last in the all-female list who was in the running for the accolade, was Mabel – the daughter of singer and songwriter Neneh Cherry and Massive Attack record producer Cameron McVey – who said she was over the moon with the nomination.
She commented: “Being nominated for the Critics’ Choice award really is a dream come true for me. So much hard work has gone into getting to this point, so to be acknowledged by something like the BRIT Awards means the world.”
Since its inception in 2008 – when Adele won – the Critics Choice Award has helped launch the careers of the likes of Florence + The Machine, Jessie J, Emeli Sande, Tom Odell, Sam Smith, Jack Garratt and this year’s winner Rag ‘n’ Bone Man.
The 2018 BRIT Awards, sponsored by Mastercard, takes place on February 21 at London’s The O2 arena.

Blue to make their own comedy series?

OHMYGOSSIP — Blue have revealed their plans to make their own British sitcom and musical.
The ‘All Rise’ hitmakers already have two members, Duncan James [Ryan Knight] and Lee Ryan [Woody Woodward], acting in soap operas ‘Hollyoaks’ and ‘EastEnders’ respectively, but have revealed their aspirations to “evolve” the Blue brand further.
Anthony Costa said: “I wouldn’t rule put a musical, we’ve been around a long long time now so we have the songs.
“There’s possibilities for anything to happen with Blue.
“We are continuing to evolve and move with the times, that’s just the way we are as a band.
Next year we tour with Steps then enter the studio again so we are quite multi-faceted.”
The group – completed by Simon Webbe – recently made a mockumentary for npower’s Go Green tariff system, which sees the ‘One Love’ stars re-branded as Green, and Duncan says there is plenty of opportunity for them to develop it into a comedy series for the small screen, similar to Ricky Gervais’ ‘The Office’.
Speaking specifically about the sitcom idea, he told the Daily Star newspaper: “I’m hoping people will react to it and we can carry it on … like ‘The Office’.
“We have an actor pretending to be Anthony’s Greek uncle and he becomes our manager and rebrands us as Green. There’s a TV show in it.”
Meanwhile, Duncan – who is leaving the Channel 4 soap after two years – revealed that his bosses never give him his script before the day in order to keep it top secret.
He said: “We aren’t allowed to talk about it – they are all under embargo so they don’t even tell us anything in case it gets out.
“The most important part of these shows is to keep your mouth shut.”
In the meantime, Blue head out on tour with fellow 90s acts Steps and Aqua in 2018, and they are in the studio working on their sixth album.

Pink and Christina Aguilera’s secret duet

OHMYGOSSIP — Pink and Christina Aguilera have recorded a secret duet – signalling the end of their 16-year feud.
The pop starlets famously fell out during the recording of the 2001 smash hit cover of ‘Lady Marmalade’ for the film ‘Moulin Rouge’, but have now put aside their differences for a new song.
But Pink has told The Sun newspaper: “We did a duet for her album and I don’t know when it’s coming out but it’s amazing.
“We did it two years ago so I don’t remember the title, but she’s incredible.”
The ‘Trouble’ singer’, 38, also admitted she felt forced to defend herself after fans tried to reignite the feud over Christina’s Whitney Houston tribute at the American Music Awards.
Pink took to Twitter to praise her friend, writing:”Christina f***ing killed it tonight for one of our favorite singers ever. This about Whitney, and I am in awe of Christina’s talent. (sic)”
The tweet came after speculation she had made disapproving faces during the performance.
Pink said: “Yes, it is really frustrating, but I fight back.
“I do it less than I used to but I do when I think the narrative needs to be changed.
“It’s bulls**t, I’m not gonna stand for it. But I’m used to it, to be honest.
“And this never happens to men, it’s very specific to females.”
The ‘Get The Party Started’ hitmaker previously revealed her feud with Christina, 36, once got so bad the ‘Dirrty’ star tried to punch her.
Pink once said: “We were super young and super new at the whole thing, and I think I’m an alpha, and she’s an alpha.
“I’m used to taking my altercations physical and she’s used to having them verbal.
“She swung at me in a club. Hilarious! I was like, ‘What’s happening right now? What’s happening?'”

Bruce Dickinson: Iron Maiden have learned to get on

OHMYGOSSIP — Bruce Dickinson has admitted Iron Maiden “weren’t necessarily friends” when he started out with the band.
The 59-year-old singer joined the group in 1981 following the release of their first two albums and he believes the heavy metal outfit – made up of Steve Harris, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, Nicko McBrain and Janick Gers – have been going for so long because they have grown to get on over the years.
He said: “We were all born out of the same mother, Iron Maiden, and so over the years, we’ve learned to get on with each other. We’ve survived because we weren’t necessarily friends at the beginning in the ways that some bands are but we have become friends over the years.”
While Bruce and Steve have previously clashed, the frontman admits they have both “got better” at working alongside one another after a difficult initial period.
He said: “We get on very well actually. I think we do anyway. He probably thinks I’m a ****. We see the drama in what we do in each other. He has got better at working with me. I’ve got better at working with him.
“When we first got together, we were almost headbutting each other on stage. You go through phases like that and it makes you stronger.”
Bruce wasn’t involved in the 1980 self-titled debut record and second album ‘Killers’, and he thought the ‘Fear of the Dark’ hitmakers’ first record sounded “s**t” and more of a punk LP than heavy metal.
Speaking to The Irish Times, he added: “Ironically, people thought Iron Maiden was a bit of a punk band because it [the debut album] sounds s**t.
“When Killers came out, people thought Iron Maiden had come across all smooth and refined. We were never supposed to be a punk band. Steve hated punk. I didn’t hate punk, but, at the same time, it never did a great deal for me.
“I always thought it was strictly limited by their alleged lack of music ambition.”

Sparks planning Trump song

OHMYGOSSIP — Sparks want to rework ‘Everybody’s Stupid’ in honour of President Donald Trump and his wife.
The duo have previously name-checked First Ladies Jacqueline Kennedy and Mary Lincoln in their songs and joked revisiting one of their old songs would “probably work” if they wanted to reference the current US leader’s spouse, Melania Trump.
Asked if they’d do a song about Melania, singer Russell Mael said: “There’s a song we did already called ‘Everybody’s Stupid’. That could probably work. We’ll do a re-recorded version of that. An updated version.
His brother, keyboardist Ron Mael added: “I think ‘Help’ would be a good song title.”
But the brothers don’t want to write a song about the controversial president because they think it is too obvious to point out the fact he is a “bad guy”.
Asked if it’s hard to be ironic in the age of Trump, identity politics and nuclear testing, Russell said: “You can’t concoct anything that’s on the level of all of those things you’ev mentioned.
“That is one of the reasons why we steer away from doing anything overly political – like referencing Trump or things that are happening in the world. It seems one dimensional to sing, ‘Ain’t Trump a bad guy?’ We know he’s a bad guy and our saying that probably isn’t going to help anything.”
However, the ‘This Town Ain’t Big Enough For the Both Of Us’ hitmakers do like songs, which reference real people.
Ron told Q magazine: “You don’t often see proper names in songs. Apart from maybe ‘Bette Davis Eyes’. So many lyrics just seemed generic. At least when you have a proper name it is pointed in some sort of way and you can work backwards and try to figure out what the song is about.”

Rag’n’Bone Man splashed out on saucepans

OHMYGOSSIP — Rag’n’Bone Man has used the money from his hit album to buy a “nice set of kitchen knives and saucepans”.
The ‘Human’ hitmaker catapulted to fame with his hit single and LP of the same name but he insists he has only used the money to treat himself to small things so far.
He said: “People think all musicians are millionaires, but, even if you are successful, you don’t get to see that money for a long time. I’ve been able to treat myself – I bought a nice set of kitchen knives and saucepans. I love cooking. Beth’s vegetarian and I do a veggie fry-up for lunch.”
And if the music didn’t work out in the end, the 32-year-old singer would be straight back to work as a carer.
He added: “After I left school, I washed cars for five years, then became a carer for children with Down’s syndrome. I’d never considered music as a career.
“I did local gigs when I was at school, and every year it just kind of grew. Then, suddenly, it went haywire. I released the Human single last year and my debut album earlier this year, and it got to No 1. How did that happen? …
“If the music career comes to an end, I’d go back into the care industry. You’ve got thousands of stressed-out parents of disabled children getting no help.”
And the ‘Skin’ hitmaker – whose real name is Rory Graham – insists his new focus is getting health for his son Reuben, who he shares with his partner Beth Rouy.
He told The Sunday Times magazine: “Since Reuben was born, I’ve tried to look after myself a bit more. I’ve always been big – I was 6ft even in year 10 – but I’ve never felt unhealthy. And it doesn’t worry me from a vanity point of view. But I would like to lose a stone or two for the boy. I’ve started swimming in the afternoon and cut down on the smoking – not to mention the recreational smoking. When I’m not on tour, nights are just me, Beth and Reuben.”
