Nicola Roberts wants ownership

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicola Roberts wants “complete ownership” of her music.
The 32-year-old singer is busy writing new songs for the likes of her former Girls Aloud bandmate Cheryl Tweedy and The Saturdays star Vanessa White, and while she’s happy for them to bring in other contributors, she won’t accept outside help for her own record.
She told LOOK magazine: “I’m in the writing process at the moment, I started in July. I’ve been doing it alone because I want complete ownership.
“For your own project, its important to have full control and not be creatively swayed.
” For Cheryl, maybe we will bring in other people to contribute and that’s fine.
“I do send Vanessa songs and I’ve suggested a few people I think she should work with.”
Although she’s focusing on her own career at the moment, the flame-haired beauty has admitted it would be an absolute dream to pen some hits for Rihanna.
Recently asked who she’d like to write for, she simply said: “Rihanna.”
Nicola may even follow her Cheryl’s footsteps one day and bag a seat on ‘The X Factor’ judging panel – but only if she can choose which mentors sit beside her.
Asked her dream panel, she said: “Lauryn Hill, Solange and Cardi B.”
Meanwhile, there’s been a lot of speculation over recent months about whether Girls Aloud will reunite next year for the 10-year anniversary of their number one single ‘The Promise’ and, while Nicola refused to divulge any plans, she has admitted that she’d “never say never” to a reunion.
She said when asked about the milestone: “Who knows – never say never!”

Ed Sheeran wants to do rap song with Drake

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran wants to do a song with Drake.
The ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker joked that he doesn’t think his fans appreciate his own rapping skills, but he’d love to get the ‘Hotline Bling’ star to spit some lines on a track for him.
He quipped: “I don’t feel like anyone thinks I can rap, but I really enjoy doing it so — f**k you!”
“I really enjoy doing it, but in that aspect I wouldn’t because you’d be going against one of the greatest rappers in all time, so I’d stick to what I was good at.
“Like, I rap on my own stuff because I enjoy doing it. That’s something that I’d definitely put together in the future.
“I think someone like Drake would be really fun to work with. I’d want him to rap though because I love it when he raps, when he’s barring.”
The 26-year-old singer/songwriter features on the song ‘River’ on Eminem’s comeback LP ‘Revival’, and has revealed his ideas for future collaborations with the rapping legend.
He told Julie Adenuga on Beats 1 radio: “I think I’d do two different songs with him and choose one of them.
“One of them would be like an introspective story telling thing like ‘Stan’ and one of them would be like — you know when he used to joke rap … like in the shower this morning, I was doing ‘I murder a rhyme, one word at a time/You never heard of a mind as perverted as mine.'”

Eminem ‘s most ‘diverse’ album

OHMYGOSSIP — Eminem says his new album ‘Revival’ is diverse enough to appeal to all.
The ‘Not Afraid’ hitmaker spent over a year writing and working on the highly-anticipated LP – including scrapping earlier material to make way for fresher songs – and he feels it is a fair representation of himself as a person at the moment.
Speaking to Sir Elton John for Interview Magazine, he said: “I’ve been working on it for over a year. You know how it is – you make songs, and as you make the new ones, the old ones get old and you throw them out.
“The album is called ‘Revival’. It’s a reflection of where I’m at right now, but also I feel like what I tried to do was diversify. I’ve tried to make a little something for everyone.”
Opening up candidly about his process as a songwriter, Slim Shady – whose real name is Marshall Mathers III – admitted some of his albums and songs in the past have left a bit to be desired, compared to some of his stronger material.
However, he suggested that’s simply part of what drives him, revealing he works on almost 50 tracks for each album, and makes sure each one is better than the previous to earn its keep on the finished product.
He explained: “You’re not going to hit it every single time, and that’s why, when I record an album, I do probably close to 50 songs.
“Each song I record has to get better. If it’s not better than the last song that I made, it’ll usually linger for a couple of months, and then it’ll be put on the backburner, and then there’ll be another song that I do, and then it often doesn’t make it on the album.”
‘Revival’ is released on December 15.

James Arthur’s Naked was intended for Zara Larsson

OHMYGOSSIP — James Arthur’s latest single ‘Naked’ Was pitched to Zara Larsson before him.
The 29-year-old pop hunk has revealed the Swedish star – known for hits ‘I Would Like’ and ‘Lush Life’ – was originally meant to have the song, which he worked on with Taylor Swift and Katy Perry songwriter and producer Max Martin, but they decided it would be more interesting to have a male doing the “vulnerable” vocal.
James – who won ‘The X Factor’ in 2012 – jazzed the track up adding in his “gospel” influence.
He shared: “They had a chorus that I think they were pitching to her at one point.
“But then they played it to me and they thought, ‘How nice would it be if it was a male singer doing a vulnerable thing like that?’
“So we re-wrote it and made it suit me. I put the gospel middle eight in there. I was quite happy with that.”
Meanwhile, James confessed he fears his music has become too predictable.
The ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ hitmaker – who made a comeback with the album ‘Back From The Edge’ in 2016 – wants to “branch out” and make songs that his fans wouldn’t expect him to release, as his most popular singles that get the most radio airplay are all ballads.
He told the BBC: “I’m starting to feel like people know what to expect from me.
“If you come and see my shows, I’m all over the stage. We do grunge, we do gospel, we do R&B – but the songs that make it on the radio are the acoustic, heartfelt ballads.
“I’m starting to feel the urge to branch out and do some stuff that nobody would expect.”

Pete Tong says club music is for the whole family

OHMYGOSSIP — Pete Tong’s target audience has changed from ravers to families since doing shows with the Heritage Orchestra.
The superstar DJ – who has enjoy a 30 year career – has combined with the orchestra and conductor Jules Buckley for their second album together ‘Ibiza Classics’, and he admitted he’s noticed a shift in the scene.
In an interview with The Sun newspaper, he explained: “We are seeing different generations together enjoying the music.
“As much as it initially appealed to the clubbers from the 80s and 90s, now families are coming to the shows. The old clubbers don’t want to go out until six in the morning any more but still enjoy these songs.
“This music is still really important and the way we have reintroduced it shows how special it still is. Whatever your age is. The environment and places we are playing takes the whole thing to another level.”
Tong recently played the iconic Hollywood Bowl venue in Los Angeles, and he added that his role in the classically-inspired hybrid project has evolved as he’s become more comfortable in this environment.
The 57-year-old star explained he is essentially the conductor’s DJ, as he’s in constant communication with Buckley to keep the set flowing.
He said: “I’ve grown in confidence in working with them and I’ve found my own way of infiltrating deeper into the orchestras. I’m building up my own role.
“I’ve hung out with the orchestra more as we’ve travelled and played festivals. I’m up on stage and actually play along with the orchestra, which has been more fun for me up there.
“They are not playing along to me and I’m not playing the record, I am not playing over a record or any part of a record. Everything is generated by the orchestra and I play in percussion loops and there are bits of the record, which were created electronically.”

Rak-Su to collaborate with Little Mix?

OHMYGOSSIP — Rak-Su have hinted they could be collaborating with fellow ‘X Factor’ stars Little Mix.
The popular four piece – made up of childhood friends Mustafa Rahimtulla, Ashley Fongho, Jamaal Shurland and Myles Stephenson – received advice from the girl group who won the ITV talent show in 2011 and would love the chance to team up with them on a track.
Speaking about the advice they got from Leigh-Anne Pinnock from the ‘Shout Out To My Ex’ group, they said: “The Girls from Little Mix have actually been really helpful. There’s not been a great deal of interaction. I think you bumped into Leigh-Anne [Pinnock] once, didn’t you?! yeah, I bumped into her and she was just saying just kinda trust the process. There can be a lot going on but just keep your head down and keep working hard.
The lads have set their sights high on collaborators for the future, with the likes of Jay-Z, Frank Ocean and Camila Cabello on their wish-list.
When asked who they’d like to duet with, the foursome told music show ‘BeBox’: “There are so many artists we’d like to work with, in the future.
“All the people we kinda grew up listening to and that our tastes have been moulded by like Usher, Babyface, Jay-Z, Skepta, Frank Ocean, Camilla Cabello. I mean she’s good init, Little Mix there’s actually so many.”
Rak-Su shot straight to number one with their original winners’ charity single ‘Dimelo’, which features Wyclef Jean and Naughty Boy, within 24 hours of winning the contest.
They will make live debut since winning the competition at Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball with Coca-Cola at London’s The O2 on Saturday (09.12.17).
The group – who had five songs in the top 10 of the iTunes chart earlier this week – were mentored by Simon Cowell, and he said he’s convinced they will become as big as One Direction – who finished third in the 2010 series of the show, and have gone on to sell more than 70 million records.
Ashley of the group explained recently: “I think for us, we knew who we wanted to be and we knew who we wanted to be going onto the show and obviously we saw it as a good opportunity to get some exposure for ourselves, we didn’t know it was going to go this far. I think we were just fortunate in that when we said we wanted to do our own songs, the staff were kind of like: ‘OK, if it’s really what you want to do, it’s a risk but fine.'”

Willow Smith: My rapping is a joke

OHMYGOSSIP — Willow Smith cannot take rapping seriously.
The ‘Whip My Hair’ singer – daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith – wishes she could rap like her brother Jaden, but her own efforts feel like a joke.
Willow told Vulture: “I want to [rap]. I can. But I wish that I could really rap because every time I rap, I’m joking. But I feel like I could do it.”
The 17-year-old singer also blames misogynistic rap music for the language young people use, which she said makes her feel disconnected from her own generation.
Willow explained: “Such casually degrading language and words that don’t come from an intention of upliftment. It’s coming from fear. Really, I honestly feel like it’s coming from rap music …
“That’s especially starting to come through in texts. Sometimes I read people’s texts and just the form of communication, how it’s evolving, is just so interesting to me. And it’s not just because of rap. Time goes on. But that’s a big part of it, because it’s what most people are listening to right now.”
The ‘I Am Legend’ star praised her older brother Jaden, 19, for his style of rap music.
She said: “I listen to rap that’s not misogynistic, like Jaden’s raps, and rap that’s actually rhythm and poetry. Rap can be amazing and I’m glad that Jaden is holding space for conscious rap because that’s so important. I just have to be aware, we all have to be aware, and not let those other things creep in.”
Willow hopes to collaborate with her brother one day, although she doesn’t see it happening for some time.
She said: “We’re very, very different artists. The way we work is very different and the style of music that we do is very different.
“I definitely think one day we’ll put out an album that is a collaboration of both of us, but right now in this point in our lives, we’re both really figuring out who we are. In general and in our careers. In that process, we’re very individual.
“It’s a beautiful thing that we can have the best of both worlds. We see each other all the time when we’re not working.”

Liam Gallagher dedicates Paper Crown to brother Noel at Alexandra Palace gig

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher made clear ‘Paper Crown’ is about his brother Noel Gallagher as he dedicated it to him at his Alexandra Palace show in London on Thursday night (07.12.17).
The former Oasis frontman – who sold-out the 10,000 capacity venue – appears to diss his sibling and former bandmate on the chorus of the ballad with lines such as, “now you’re feeling the fear”, which could be interpreted as Liam saying his brother fears him doing better than him with his solo music.
Before performing the track from his debut solo LP ‘As You Were’, Liam said: “Thank you very much. I’d like to dedicate this one to my brother.”
The ‘Wall of Glass’ hitmaker has previously used his music to attack his family rival, who he has barely spoken to since Oasis split after a backstage bust-up at a show in Paris in 2009.
On ‘BE’, the second album by ‘Beady Eye’ – the band he formed with the other final members of Oasis in the wake of the break-up – Liam penned ‘Don’t Brother Me’ which contained lyrics mocking Noel’s solo career and his friendships.
And it was previously speculated that his solo album tracks ‘Greedy Soul’ and ‘You Better Run’ contain swipes at Noel.
Apart from the odd utter thanking the crowd, Liam remained focus on nailing his 18-song set list, which saw him play 10 Oasis classics, including their first ever song ‘Supersonic’ from their 1994 debut LP ‘Definitely Maybe’.
The 45-year-old rocker brought the house down closing with a crowd-led rendition of fan favourite ‘Wonderwall’.
Liam drew in a star-studded audience at his biggest headline solo gig of the UK tour.
One Direction star Louis Tomlinson posed for pictures with fans, which circulated on Twitter, and ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ star Heavy D was among those watching their idol perform.
After playing to the masses at Alexandra Palace, Liam has a day off before heading to Edinburgh on Saturday (09.12.17), where he’ll busk for Social Bite’s Sleep in the Park event to help tackle homelessness in Scotland.
The ‘Songbird’ songwriter will be joined by the likes of Deacon Blue, Amy McDonald, Frightened Rabbit and more performing as several stars and members of the public take to the city’s West Princes Street Gardens to sleep rough for the charity.

The Killers to headline Benicassim

OHMYGOSSIP — The Killers are to headline Benicassim.
The ‘Mr. Brightside’ hitmakers have been announced as the first headliners of the Spanish festival, which will take place from July 19-22 next year in the town of Benicassim near Valencia.
Further acts are due to be announced for the music spectacle – which was headlined by Red Hot Chili Pepeprs, The Weeknd and Kasabian last year – in the coming weeks.
The US rockers – made up of Brandon Flowers, Dave Keuning, Mark Stoermer and Ronnie Vannucci, Jr. – look set to be busy in 2018 after they announced two UK stadium shows earlier this week.
The ‘Somebody Told Me’ hitmakers will take to the stage at Swansea’s Liberty Stadium on June 23, 2018 in Wales and then head to north west England to Bolton’s Macron Stadium for a show on July 13, 2018.
Confirming the news on their official Twitter account, the group wrote: “Double the trouble, twice the fun. We’ve added two more shows in the UK. Tickets on sale Friday (sic)”
Tickets for both gigs will be available from 9.30am on Friday (08.12.17).
The Killers performed a 12-date UK tour in November, including two shows at The O2, and performed a secret set at Glastonbury over the summer.
Taking to the stage in the John Peel tent on the final day of the annual music festival at Worthy Farm in Somerset, south west England, Brandon said: “It’s good to be here. They say you play the John Peel Stage twice in your career – once on the way up, and once on the way down. It’s great to be back.”

Bon Jovi lead Rock and Roll Hall of Fame fan vote

OHMYGOSSIP — Bon Jovi are in pole position to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame after a fan ballot.
The ‘You Give Love A Bad Name’ hitmakers are amongst the potential inductees for next year’s ceremony, with the official list of honourees set to be revealed next week.
The rockers – lead by frontman and namesake Jon Bon Jovi – lead the way with over one million votes, with Moody Blues following in second place with almost 950,000.
‘Money For Nothing’ rockers Dire Straits are ranked in third place with over 613,00 votes, while The Cars (552,000) and Judas Priest (538,000) round off the top five.
As confirmed on the Hall of Fame’s official website, each of the five winners will receive an extra vote in the official ballot to determine who will be inducted next year.
It comes after Radiohead, who only made it to 12th place in the ballot, played down the honour and the impact it would have on the ground as a whole.
The indie band are one of a host of British acts to make the shortlist to potentially be recognised for their contribution to music and have their history immortalised at the Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio, next year.
Other UK artists listed include Depeche Mode, Kate Bush, Eurythmics and Judas Priest.
But Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien admits he and his bandmates – frontman Thom Yorke, lead guitarist Jonny Greenwood, bassist Colin Greenwood and drummer Philip Selway – are not really bothered by the nod because to them it’s just another awards ceremony.
He said recently: “It’s in our DNA to be a little ambivalent with award ceremonies.
“As a British band, it’s one of those things that it’s very lovely to be nominated, but we don’t quite culturally understand it. It’s a very American thing. Us Brits are very bad at celebrating ourselves.”
Clarifying that he means no disrespect to the organisers or other artists nominated, he added: “One of the things I’ve always loved about coming over to America is American bands you can always have a really good chat with and you could talk. With British bands, there was a lot of hostility. It’s in our DNA to be a little ambivalent with award ceremonies. We haven’t had great experiences. I would never want to disrespect anything because obviously some amazing artists have been nominated. But if I’m honest I don’t understand it. It’s just kind of a British person going, ‘OK, thanks, what does this mean?'”

OHMYGOSSIP — Charli XCX has shared a brand new collaboration with Tove Lo and ALMA called ‘Out Of My Head’.
The 25-year-old singer has been teasing fans about a brand new mixtape with an all-star list of artists lending their talents, and now she’s given them a taste with the exciting first track.
The star revealed to BBC Radio 1 that the upcoming record, entitled ‘Pop2’, will be released next week, and the fresh single will give fans an idea of what’s to come from the exciting project.

(sic)”
It would come as no surprise to Charli’s fans as in 2012, the ‘Boys’ hitmaker dropped two mixtapes in the form of ‘Super Ultra’ and ‘Heartbreaks and Earthquakes’.
Speaking about ‘Number 1 Angel’, the singer previously explained that it is “essentially album”, although fans are still eagerly awaiting the official follow-up to 2014’s LP ‘Sucker’.
She said: “It’s 10 whole new songs basically. It’s [being called] a mixtape so it can go out for free, but it’s essentially an album, a whole new album.”
Meanwhile, Charli also admitted she had scrapped the tracks she’d worked on for her third full length album after it was leaked online.
She said recently: “My email got hacked and people leaked most of it, so I think I’m just going to start again. But that’s fun for me, anyway I write fast so I’m not really worried about anything.”

2 Chainz disappointed with Eminem snub?

OHMYGOSSIP — 2 Chainz hinted at how disappointed he was to be left off Eminem’s latest album ‘Revival’.
The 40-year-old star – whose real name is Tauheed Epps – had worked with the ‘Without Me’ rapper on the track ‘Chloraseptic’ only to discover he wasn’t listed on the final tracklisting, and in dismay he took to social media to share his opinion on the apparent snub.
The rapper shared a list of the tunes on the record on his Instagram account and captioned it with the side eyes, angry face and fist emoji, seemingly to express his disappointment at missing out on being included on the finished project.
However, he later deleted the post, and went on to respond to another account commenting on the unheard verse, suggesting there are no hard feelings over the incident.
He wrote: “Grateful for the opportunity, new music on the way!”
Earlier this year, 2 Chainz revealed he was originally asked to simply “redo” one of Eminem’s hooks for the song, and to provide some ad-libs.
At the time, he explained: “They want you to redo a hook that Em said and maybe some ad-libs. So I said I don’t redo hooks because I do my own hooks and I want my pub.
“And I said secondly, if you want my ad-libs I can send them, I do the same ones every time … I’m telling him, like, man, you know that’s cool, but I gotta do something.”
The ‘It’s a Vibe’ hitmaker also revealed that Slim Shady praised his rapping style, and, it even made the hip-hop star anxious as he was left wondering where he’d take it next.
He added: “He telling me basically, like, a lot of my metaphors give him anxiety. He never know what Imma say. (sic)”

And original members of The Jimi Hendrix Experience group, drummer Mitch Mitchell and bass player Noel Redding, are on 1973’s ‘Hear My Train A Comin”.
The guitar legend – who chocked on his own vomit and died at the age of just 27, one of the first rock stars to join the famous cult 27 club, in September 1970 – posthumously released 2013’s ‘People, Hell and Angels’ and 2010’s ‘Valleys of Neptune’, filled with tunes from his archive.

Renowned engineer Eddie Kramer – who has worked with the likes of The Beatles, David Bowie and Eric Clapton, to name a few, over the years – worked with Hendrix on all of his releases, and co-produced the record with the late star’s sibling Janie Hendrix and producer John McDermott.
Kramer said it was a “distinct pleasure” to be involved Hendrix’s final posthumous release.

U2 stars perform on Berlin’s U2 subway line

OHMYGOSSIP — U2’s Bono and The Edge surprised commuters with an impromptu set on the U2 subway line in Berlin, Germany.
The Irish rockers treated 120 lucky competition winners – who applied for tickets through local radio station Radioeins – to the treat of a life time as they boarded an underground train at Deutsche Oper on Wednesday (06.12.17) to perform acoustically for 15 minutes.
The set included ‘One’ and new track ‘Get Out of Your Own Way’ from their latest record, ‘Songs of Experience’.
The city no doubt holds special memories for the ‘With or Without You’ group as they recorded ‘Achtung Baby’ at Hansa Studios, which is located near to the Berlin Wall, there in 1990.
The late great David Bowie recorded ‘Low’ and ‘Heroes’ at Hansa, Iggy Pop recorded ‘The Passenger’ and ‘Lust For Life’, and the likes of Depeche Mode and REM also made it their home for making music over the years.
A new movie telling the story of the recording space is set to air next year.
‘Hansa Studios: By the Wall 1976-90’ is a brand new, feature-length film by Mike Christie documenting the historical, cultural and artistic significance of Hansa, which will be broadcast on Sky Arts on January 10, 2018, two days after Bowie’s birthday and on the second anniversary of his death.
Meanwhile, guitarist The Edge recently shared how he thinks the most “unique” aspect of ‘Songs of Experience’ – their 67th studio album – and the band in general, is that not many groups have made so much music with the original line-up intact.
He said: “I hope you don’t need to know anything about U2, or anything about the context, to enjoy [Songs of Experience].
“I think it’s an album of just classic songs, great melodies, great hooks, great lyrics.
“I think there’s very few bands in the history of rock and roll that have been around and made as many albums as we have with the same line-up … that perspective is unique, you know? On the last record [‘Songs of Innocence’] we wrote about where we came from.
“How this band came together, Dublin of the late 70s early 80s, and this new record is the companion album.
“But it’s from this current perspective now … So many years later, what have we learned?”
