Camila Cabello praises artists for ‘breaking barriers’

OHMYGOSSIP — Camila Cabello thinks there is a lot of “breaking barriers” in the music industry right now.
The ‘Havana’ hitmaker is thrilled to see Latin artists getting mainstream recognition now and thinks there has been a big shift in the industry.
She said: “I think that the good thing about social media and the internet is that I feel like it makes the world smaller and it just kind of breaks down barriers between languages, between people, between cultures, and I think that might have something to do with that. I’ve been listening to Spanish music forever because that’s just not even Spanish music to me, it’s just music
“But I feel like with everything that’s gone on this year and also with groups like K-pop groups performing on American award shows and making their way into the mainstream American industry, I just feel like there’s a lot of just breaking barriers. Which I think is super beautiful, and I don’t know exactly what there is to credit for that, but I’m definitely glad it’s happening.”
The 20-year-old singer likes to reference her heritage wherever she can.
Asked on why she chose to give her ‘Havana’ video a telenova theme, she told Teen Vogue magazine: “I think that it’s really important to represent and to be proud of your story, and be proud of who you are. And I think that being the most “you” is what makes you different. Also, for me, when I was growing up in Miami, I didn’t really have anybody that shared my story to look up to. So that’s why, for a long time, I thought that having a career in music was not possible for somebody like me that was in Miami.
“I came from a family that didn’t really speak English, and we had no money to move to LA and do meetings. That was not even in my vocabulary. So I think that’s why, for a long time, it was only by chance that I auditioned for X Factor. If it weren’t for that chance, I don’t think that I would even be here. So I just think it’s important for me to be authentic and to hopefully inspire young girls and young people that share a similar story.”

U2 chose Kendrick Lamar for his ‘spirit’

OHMYGOSSIP — U2 wanted to work with Kendrick Lamar because he has a “similar spirit” to them.
The Irish rockers featured on the US rapper’s hit ‘XXX’ and he repaid the gesture by appearing on their tracks ‘Get Out Of Your Own Way’ and ‘American Soul’ on new album ‘Songs Of Experience’, and the group admitted he was “top of [their] list” for potential collaborations.
Band member The Edge said: “It was really just that we were fans.
“We were just thinking about artists we really respect and like, and he was on the top of our list. We look for artists that we feel have a similar spirit.”
Frontman Bono added: “There’s a righteous anger that is hard to argue with.
“I asked him would he rap about where America is at, his reply was to rap about where America isn’t at. Smart dude.”
Bono is pleased with the direction the group – who have released 14 studio albums – have taken over the years with their latest album inspired by recent political changes, such as Donald Trump’s election and Brexit, and he likes listening to people have “violent disagreements” about U2’s style.
Speaking to Stereogum, he added: “I’ve had people talk to me about what they think is or is not authentically U2. They’re often in violent disagreement with each other and I like that and I’ve had those conversations for 40 years.
“We’ve had some bad haircuts over the years but stylistically, musically speaking, I’m not embarrassed about anywhere we’ve gone. Lyrically, yes. Vocally, yes. But in terms of the present tense, who isn’t curious about what’s going on around them?”

Kasabian’s 2018 forest gig

OHMYGOSSIP — Kasabian are set to play a special show in a forest next year.
The ‘Bless This Acid House’ rockers – Tom Meighan, Serge Pizzorno, Chris Edwards and Ian Matthews – will rock with the wildlife at Thetford Forest in Suffolk, England on June 10.
Announcing the show on Twitter, the band wrote: “It’s out … we’re playing #ThetfordForest on Sunday 10th June! Pre-sale live now via this link (sic)”
The festival series has previously seen the likes of Kaiser Chiefs, Ed Sheeran and Elbow perform.
It comes after the ‘Club Foot’ hitmakers were confirmed for the 50th anniversary of Isle of Wight Festival on June 22, 2018.
Kasabian last headlined the event in 2011, having first played it four years previously, and they admitted the history of the site means a great deal to them.
They said: “We’re hugely honoured to play at the Isle of Wight Festival. It’s kind of a big deal Jimi Hendrix played in the 70’s, 50 years on and we’re playing it!
“That’s pretty phenomenal, thanks for having us back! We promise Friday night will be the one!”
The band are riding high on the success of their critically-acclaimed record ‘For Crying Out Loud’ and their UK arena tour, which saw them play two consecutive nights at London’s The O2 arena on December 1 and 2.
Tickets for Thetford Forest go on sale on Friday (15.12.17) from 9am.

Rak-Su aren’t envious of heartthrob bandmate Myles

OHMYGOSSIP — Rak-Su are happy having at least one heartthrob in the band.
The ‘X Factor’ winners have addressed band member Myles Stephenson’s reported fling with ‘Love Island’ beauty Malin Andersson, and reassured their fans that they are ensuring the hunky star’s “ego” stays “in-check”.
Ashley Fongho – who completes the group along with Mustafa Rahimtulla and Jamaal Shurland – told The Sun newspaper: “There’s only one heartthrob, but his ego stays in check and he’s not arrogant about it.
“We love Myles.”
Myles, 25, hasn’t been short of female attention since the group swiped the crown last weekend but, although they were told not to get into any relationships while competing on the series, he reportedly hooked up with the star from last year’s series of the dating show.
A source previously revealed: “Myles clearly took a fancy to Malin after she made contact on Twitter and Instagram. They met up in secret and enjoyed a few nights together at her home in Milton Keynes before going their separate ways.
“It was a cheeky move by Myles given that X Factor’s bosses ask contestants to concentrate on the show while they were still involved.”
However, their relationship was short lived as Myles realised he still had feelings for his ex-girlfriend Rebecca Bignell – who he split from once his band made the live rounds of the show – and couldn’t given Malin what she wanted emotionally.
And it doesn’t look like Myles will be rekindling his romance with Rebecca as the foursome decided to focus on their music for the time being and side line any relationships.
Ashley said recently: “We’ve had a lot of female interest since we went on ‘X Factor’. We’ve had messages on social media but we haven’t been responding. While you’re on the show it just isn’t possible, and now we’ve got to focus on our music.”
And the quartet revealed they already have a back catalogue of tracks ready to release, and can’t wait to get into the recording studio – leaving no time for partying.
Jamaal explained: “We want to take our music around the world.
“We’re not going to wait like some other winners have. We’ve got an advantage because we already have our own material ready to go.”

Jax Jones secretly tied the knot in Thailand

OHMYGOSSIP — Jax Jones has revealed he got married in secret in Thailand.
The ‘House Work’ star – whose real name is Timucin Fabian Kwong Wah Aluo – is officially off the market after tying the knot at a lavish ceremony in Asia, that ended with his guests diving into the pool fully clothed.
Jax – who recently dropped new single ‘Breathe’, featuring Ina Wroldsen – told the Daily Star newspaper: “I’m off the market ladies, I’m sorry. We got married out in Thailand in the mountains.
“We had water buffalos greeting the guests as they came in, and then the most amazing pool party as the after-party. Everyone ended up in the pool suited and booted!”
Meanwhile, the ‘Instruction’ hitmaker has revealed he’s working with ‘Luther’ star and occasional DJ, Idris Elba, on a track.
The 30-year-old star told The Sun newspaper: “I was hanging out with Idris last night. He’s a top boy.”
Idris, 45 – who released album ‘Murdah Loves John (The John Luther Character Album)’ in 2015 – previously said it’s easier for him to be more “honest” with his music than acting.
He said: “To be honest, I’m going to keep making music regardless of whether people love it or not. I can actually be more personal, and more honest to anyone that’s interested via my music than I can when I’m acting.”
Meanwhile, Jax performed one of his biggest shows to date at Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball with Coca-Cola at the weekend, the producer brought out Raye for ‘You Don’t Know Me’ and had a Carnival theme as scantily-dressed dancers with feather wings paraded around, whilst he managed the decks inside a cup-shaped booth with Jax Jones emblazoned across it.

James Arthur: Producers woo artists with studio gimmicks

OHMYGOSSIP — James Arthur says top producers are having to woo artists into their studios to work with them.
The ‘Naked’ singer has revealed the likes of Naughty Boy (Shahid Khan) – who has worked with Beyonce, Emeli Sande and Sam Smith – have turned their recording spaces into havens with unusual gimmicks to entice stars in.
The 29-year-old pop star visited Naughty’s studio to work on several tracks on his self-titled debut LP, including ‘Roses’ and ‘Certain Things’, in 2013.
James told The Sun newspaper: “There’s such competition. Naughty Boy’s is like a trip. He’s got a fish tank, lasers, rhinos running about, all kinds of s***.”
The ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ hitmaker clearly wasn’t tempted by Naughty’s lasers and fish tank this time round, as on his comeback LP ‘Back From the Edge’, which was released in 2016, he opted to work with the likes of Alex Beitzke and Jamiroquai producer Bradley Spence.
The ‘X Factor’ alumni was speaking at Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball with Coca-Cola, before he sung his heart out with a flawless performance of ‘You’re Nobody till Somebody Loves You’ and spine-chillingly good rendition of his new song ‘Naked’.
James later laughed off the fact he had been flying low with his jean zipper undone for the whole set, after playing a game with Capital FM host Roman Kemp before he took to the stage.
He wrote on Twitter: “I forgot all about the flies challenge, ended up flying low the whole set @romankemp (sic)”

Ed Sheeran not bothered by Grammy snub

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran isn’t bothered about being snubbed for a Grammy nomination.
The ‘Castle on the Hill’ hitmaker isn’t worried about being missed off the list of Grammy nominations this year as he has other things to celebrate.
He told Billboard: “There’s a very clear reason why that happened and it’s bigger than me, like much bigger than me, and like it’s just something that, again, it was just meant to be, that is the way that this year was meant to roll out.
“You know I’m not dying, it’s not like I’m never gonna be nominated for a Grammy again. And I was nominated for two Grammys. This is why everything’s meant to be. The week after that, I get an MBE from the palace, I go No. 1 on Spotify, I go No. 1 on Billboard, I’m about to have my second ever Billboard No. 1, like there’s so many other things in the mix that counterbalance it.
“That’s just the way I live my life. When one door closes, another door opens. You’ll really, really send yourself mental if you think into things too much, and I’m just so easy-going when it comes to that.”
Meanwhile, the 26-year-old singer previously revealed he has nine songs out of 40 that “he really likes” that might end up on his next record.
He shared: “I’ve got a rough outline of it – I’ve probably got about nine songs that I really like. But that could all change tomorrow if I think of nine new songs to replace them. There are about forty that I wrote I haven’t used but nine I really like.”

Morrissey cancels headline slot at KROQ event

OHMYGOSSIP — Morrissey was forced to cancel his headlining slot at an annual concert.
The ‘Everyday is Like Sunday’ hitmaker axed his latest performance at the KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas show in Los Angeles, which was due to take place last night (10.12.17), because of “illness”.
A KROQ statement read: “It is with great regret that we must inform you that Morrissey’s performance for Sunday night’s show has been cancelled due to illness. Earlier this week the tour’s performances in Philadelphia and Boston were also forced to be canceled, but it was hoped that conditions would improve for the KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas performance to continue as scheduled. (sic)”
A tweet on the music festival’s page read: “UPDATE: Morrissey will no longer be performing tomorrow night at #KROQXMAS. (sic)”
The 58-year-old star and his team are said to be keen to “make it up” to fans in LA soon.
The statement added: “Morrissey’s team and KROQ apologize greatly for this disappointment and Morrissey looks forward to making it up to the Los Angeles fans as soon as possible. (sic)”
Despite the news, The Killers softened the blow somewhat for fans of The Smiths frontman by performing the band’s hit ‘This Charming Man’ at the event, which took place at The Forum.
Other groups who performed over the two-day spectacle – run by the Los Angeles radio station KROQ-FM – included Muse, Weezer, Queens of the Stone Age, Thirty Seconds to Mars and The Lumineers.
Morrissey’s latest cancellation comes after he had to axe gigs in Philadelphia and Boston last week.

Mel C appoints boyfriend as manager

OHMYGOSSIP — Mel C has made her boyfriend her manager.
After parting ways with her longtime manager Nancy Phillips, who she always worked with during her Spice Girls days, Mel has decided to appoint her boyfriend of two years, Joe Marshall, to the role.
A source told the Sun on Sunday: “It’s not a long-term plan but if things work out well, who knows what could happen?
“It is a huge display of trust from Mel as her singing career is incredibly important to her.”
Mel previously revealed that Joe gives her confidence in her career.
She said: “My partner gave me confidence. He challenges me but respects and loves me.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been in a relationship where someone has got my back.”
Mel has an eight-year-old daughter, Scarlett Starr, from a previous relationship with Thomas Starr and she admitted last year that she would consider having more children with Joe.
She said: “I’ve never wanted to get married but maybe I’ve never met the person. Life’s complicated. So no plans!
“It would be lovely to think about more children in the future.”
Meanwhile, Mel opted not to join a Spice Girls reunion last year after her bandmate Victoria Beckham decided against it.
She said: “I know there are people that want to see it. But there were various reasons … but the one thing that I couldn’t get away from was that, we did reunite as a five piece [for the Olympics] and it was so incredible, and for me we are like a jigsaw puzzle and if there’s a piece missing it’s not complete. We’re not a band of interchangeable parts. So for me, it didn’t feel right.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Niall Horan wants to collaborate with Justin Bieber on a fundraising single for the victims of the California fires.
Justin recently revealed that wants to help raise funds for those who have been affected by the devastating natural disaster sweeping across the state and Niall, who has a home in Los Angeles, wants to help.
He told Mirror Online: “We both live in LA and that’s not too far from my house really where all those fires are kicking off, it’s absolutely horrific. Three to four hundred homes destroyed and people’s lives in tatters, so I thought about it when Justin reached out and sent that video.
“Of course if something is going on like that [a charity single] it’s a no brainier, if he needs a hand with something I’d love to give him a hand.”
Justin shared a video on his Instagram account, in which he pledged his support.
He said: “I’m going to have a conversation with some people and we are going to get moving on a solution. Obviously I’m not a fireman but I can use my resources to figure out ways to get some sort of restoration in certain communities.
“Fundraisers or whatever we can do. I’m going to get on that and in the meantime all the families and everyone who are struggling, just know that everything is going to be OK.”
Other stars also offered their support too, with Niall posting under the photo, “Good man. Give me a shout if ya need a hand (sic)”
And Patrick Schwarzenegger wrote: “Let’s do it buddy.”
It comes after Justin donated $25,000 to the American Red Cross in aid of their relief efforts after Hurricane Harvey.
Speaking in a video clip posted at the time: “Just looking at these photos from Hurricane Harvey. I just want to say that I am so sorry to all the families that have lost their homes, people that have lost their lives. I’m going to accept the Kevin Hart challenge and donate $25,000 towards the Red Cross, and I love you guys in Houston. You guys are awesome, you guys are strong. I am so sorry this is happening.”

Noel Gallagher slams modern rock stars

OHMYGOSSIP — Noel Gallagher doesn’t think there are any rock stars left.
The 50-year-old rocker has blasted the state of UK music, insisting most bands have either “naff” frontmen or they’re too old, and no one looks very cool anymore.
He said: “There are no English rock stars left.
“There are famous guys in bands, but rock stars now in England? Meh.
“They’re either very f***ing naff, or the wrong side of 40, or they don’t write their own music and have nothing to say.
“And they have bad hair and even worse shoes.”
And Noel finds it “f***ing boring” hearing bands sing about current affairs, so wanted his own new album, ‘Who Built the Moon?’ to be full of “joy and optimism”.
He said: “There was no big master plan but when it’s finished and you take a step back and listen to it, there’s just an overriding feeling of joy and optimism.
“It’s very easy now to pick up a guitar and just sing what’s on the news.
“Well, I say, that’s f***ing boring. If I want to know what’s going on in the world, I can watch the news.
“I want to hear beauty and truth in music, not the news. The news is boring.”
While Noel thinks rock stars are getting too old, he has no plans to retire himself for at least 15 years.
He said: “I think, even as I sit here today, I’ve got another three records left in me, so that’s about 15 years.
“As long as I can stand up and sing, I’m good. As long as I can still write, I’ll be obliged to sing.
“So I’ve got no plans of bowing out just yet.”

Stormzy wins Artist of the Year at BBC Music Awards

OHMYGOSSIP — Stormzy was crowned Artist of the Year at the BBC Music Awards 2017.
The ‘Big For Your Boots’ rapper has had a phenomenal year thanks to his award-winning LP ‘Gangs, Signs & Prayers’ and topped it off picking up the biggest prize of the night at the annual bash, which was broadcast on Friday (08.12.17).
Stormzy said: “I’m actually blessed to be able to say that I’m an artist that’s managed to be regarded as someone that’s worthy of this award. Thank you guys. Love.”
Elsewhere, Foo Fighters took home Live Performance of the Year for their headline set at Glastonbury Festival in the summer.
Speaking of their slot at Worthy Farm in Somerset, South West England, frontman Dave Grohl said: “It really did just turn into this one big ball of love and energy and celebration and music. That’s what you want every show to be, but when it’s on that scale it’s a big feeling.”
British soul star Rag’n’Bone Man was also honoured on the night, collecting the Album of the Year Award for ‘Human’, which was the biggest-selling debut LP of 2017.
He commented: “I keep thinking at one point that someone is going to fishhook me off and tell me it’s a joke, but it’s not, and it’s a wonderful thing to have.”
Bob Shennan, director, BBC Radio and Music, said: “Congratulations to all the recipients of the awards and to the nominees – the calibre of all the artists involved this year was outstanding. It’s been a brilliant year for music on BBC TV, with our At The BBC specials with Sam Smith, Harry Styles and U2, the launch of ‘Sounds Like Friday Night’, and the defining music event of the year, One Love Manchester.
“The Year in Music 2017 on BBC Two really has provided a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge the artists that have made an impact over the past year, as well as reflect on the greatest musical moments – many of which brought people together through their shared love of music.”
This year saw winners announced on a one-hour BBC Two show, titled ‘The Year in Music 2017’, which was hosted by Radio 1 DJ Clara Amfo and Strictly Come Dancings’s Claudia Winkleman.
In previous years, a host of stars performed at the ceremony, but it was pulled this time due to poor rating figures.

Ed Sheeran’s battle to Christmas No1

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran has hinted he’s dropping a new song in a bid to secure this year’s UK Christmas number one spot.
The 26-year-old singer/songwriter already has a strong chance with his song ‘Perfect’ featuring Beyonce already sat at the top of the chart, but he has teased he has “one more trick” up his sleeve to beat the likes of Wham!’s ‘Last Christmas’ and ‘X Factor’ winners Rak-Su and their song ‘Dimelo’ to be crowned 2017’s festive chart-topper.
He told the BBC: “I do have one more trick up my sleeve. It’s not like a Beyonce trick, but it’s quite a cool trick.”
And looks like he’s collaborated with a big star from the past.
He added: “This next one, no-one’s expecting.
“It’s more for my dad’s generation. It’ll be out next week. You’ll see then.”
The ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker still hasn’t released his ‘Despacito’ style remix of ‘Perfect’, so it could be that.
Describing it previously, he said: “The vibe is that it’s a remix to ‘Perfect’. I’m just basically going to ‘Despacito’ ‘Perfect.'”
Meanwhile, the flame-haired singer recently said he’d like to work with Drake after working with rap legend Eminem.
Ed that he doesn’t think his fans appreciate his own rapping skills, but he’d love to get the ‘Hotline Bling’ star to spit some lines on a track for him.
He quipped: “I don’t feel like anyone thinks I can rap, but I really enjoy doing it so – f**k you!
“I really enjoy doing it, but in that aspect I wouldn’t because you’d be going against one of the greatest rappers in all time, so I’d stick to what I was good at.
“Like, I rap on my own stuff because I enjoy doing it. That’s something that I’d definitely put together in the future.
“I think someone like Drake would be really fun to work with. I’d want him to rap though because I love it when he raps, when he’s barring.”
The ‘Castle on the Hill’ hitmaker features on the song ‘River’ on Eminem’s comeback LP ‘Revival’, and has revealed his ideas for future collaborations with the rapping legend.
He said: “I think I’d do two different songs with him and choose one of them.
“One of them would be like an introspective story telling thing like ‘Stan’ and one of them would be like — you know when he used to joke rap … like in the shower this morning, I was doing ‘I murder a rhyme, one word at a time/You never heard of a mind as perverted as mine.'”
