Ariana Grande working on new music

OHMYGOSSIP — Ariana Grande has confirmed she is back in the studio.
The 24-year-old star revealed she is working on new music after responding to a fan account which had posted a “very old or fake” picture suggesting she was in the studio again.
In response, Ariana took a screenshot of the picture and wrote on her Instagram Stories: “I’m pretty sure dis is very old or fake. If u wanted confirmation that I’ve been workin why didn’t you just ask? (sic)”
She then shared an image of herself in the studio, followed by a short clip of herself working away on production.
In October, Ariana admitted she was keen to get back into the studio as soon as possible following her 72-date ‘Dangerous Woman Tour’.
She said: “I don’t even want to go home and relax. At the same time, it [the tour] has been a lot emotionally. It’s been very challenging for all of us involved.
“So it would be nice to really hold my loved ones close for a little while, stay home for a little bit.
“But knowing me, I’m going to be in the studio because I love it, and I want to create. I started an album already a year ago, over a year ago, but I want to keep creating, and it’s not done yet. So I’m going to take my sweet ass time, so I’ll be rested and ready to go again as soon as possible.”
Ariana’s next record will be her fourth studio album, a follow up to last year’s ‘Dangerous Woman’.
Her debut studio album ‘Yours Truly’ dropped in September 2013 and her second record ‘My Everything’ arrived a year later.

Niall Horan to start work on album two in 2018

OHMYGOSSIP — Niall Horan will start working on album number two when he’s on the road in 2018.
The ‘Slow Hands’ hitmaker has been touring around the world off the back of his debut solo LP ‘Flicker’ and is already planning the time he’ll have available for the odd “jamming” session in between shows.
He said: “I’m touring next year. I’ll tour this record now.
“I’d say over the course of the year I’ll start writing. With jamming at sound checks and things like that, things always come up – little riffs and bits and pieces.”
One person he’s hoping to nab to help pen the songs, is support star Julia Michaels – who has written for the likes of Fifth Harmony and Demi Lovato.
The Irish hunk told the Daily Star newspaper: “She’s one of the best songwriters on the planet so I’ll be looking to sit down and write with her.”
Meanwhile, Niall recently reached out to Justin Bieber about teaming up on a fundraising single for the victims of the Californian wildfires.
The ‘Sorry’ hitmaker recently revealed he wants to help raise funds for those who have been affected by the devastating natural disaster sweeping across the state, and Niall, who has a home in Los Angeles, wants to help.
The ‘This Town’ singer said recently: “We both live in LA and that’s not too far from my house really where all those fires are kicking off, it’s absolutely horrific. Three to four hundred homes destroyed and people’s lives in tatters, so I thought about it when Justin reached out and sent that video.
“Of course if something is going on like that [a charity single] it’s a no brainier, if he needs a hand with something I’d love to give him a hand.”
Justin shared a video on his Instagram account, in which he pledged his support.
He said: “I’m going to have a conversation with some people and we are going to get moving on a solution. Obviously I’m not a fireman but I can use my resources to figure out ways to get some sort of restoration in certain communities.
“Fundraisers or whatever we can do. I’m going to get on that and in the meantime all the families and everyone who are struggling, just know that everything is going to be OK.”
At the time, Niall replied: “Good man. Give me a shout if ya need a hand (sic)”

Kendrick Lamar almost did song with Prince

OHMYGOSSIP — Kendrick Lamar almost recorded a song with Prince.
The 30-year-old rapper had talked about collaborating with the ‘Purple Rain’ singer after they performed together unexpectedly when he went to visit the late star’s Paisley Park estate in Chanhassen, Minnesota, but was devastated that they never got to do the track before Prince died of an accidental drug overdose in April 2016.
He said: “It’s one of those things where, it’s so much going on in the moment, man. I did a show that day with him, I didn’t even know I was coming out on stage. The studio was next door where I just played him the song. We were running back and forth. I totally forgot about the song after that.”
Kendrick puts a lot of thought into who he collaborates with because he likes to make sure the chemistry is natural and he’s free to express himself.
But he has admitted there wasn’t too much thinking involved when Taylor Swift sent him over her song ‘Bad Blood’ and asked him to join her for some vocals.
Speaking on the ‘Howard Stern Show’, he explained: “we talk about is how does the music sound? I’m a hip-hop artist, so how far in the pop world is the sound? So the first thing is, let’s hear the music, ’cause the music is gonna dictate the concept on where can we take this. With this particular record, it was me just vibing and catching her lyrics. I didn’t want to get into her head too crazy. I just wanted to have my own inspiration and see where it took it… Fortunately, the vibe was right and it didn’t take too many takes, and we was really locked in on the chemistry and we really felt what was going on when I was in the booth.”

Big Shaq wants Wonderwall duet with Noel Gallagher

OHMYGOSSIP — Big Shaq has asked Noel Gallagher to perform ‘Wonderwall’ with him.
The former Oasis star recently revealed he’s a huge fan of the ‘Man’s Not Hot’ rapper, and now he’s said he’d like to “chop it up” on stage performing the 1995 classic from the Britpop group’s seminal LP ‘(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?’ with the 50-year-old rocker.
In a video shared on Radio X’s website, Big Shaq – whose real name is Michael Dapaah – says: “Man like Noel. Get my number just DM me on Twitter. I’ll send you the number then obviously we can chop it up, you understand ’cause like mans international now. Check the statistics.
“You get me, like. My schedules kinda busy now. But I like you and I appreciate you know what I’m saying.
“I think it’s an honour, you know what I’m saying?”
Afterwards, Big Shaq, 26, started belting out the lyrics, but didn’t quite get them right.
It comes after Noel invited the grime star on tour with him.
Asked how he discovered the rapper, Noel – who has 17-year-old daughter Anais, whom he has with ex-wife Meg Matthews, and sons Sonny, seven, and 10-year-old Donovan with his spouse Sara MacDonald – revealed:
“I came back from New York the other day and I was in the kitchen with my two lads who, as you know, are ten and seven.
“I told one of them to take his hoodie off while he’s having his lunch. He said – and I’d never heard it before – he said, ‘Mans not hot’.
“I was like, what? And he went, ‘Mans not hot’. And I went, ‘Who’s not hot?’. And he went ‘Man’.
“He was going on about Big Shaq. I’d never heard of this Big Shaq before, until three days ago. Man it’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.
“I was watching this Big Shaq feller and I was thinking it can’t be real. It turns out he’s comedian called Michael Dappah. And he’s a genius. He’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen on the internet.”
Asked if he’d like to bring him out at his shows, he said: “Oh, I’d love to. If you’re listening Michael, get in touch we’ll do some gigs, it’ll be amazing!”
And Big Shaq accepted, saying: “Yeah I think it will be special for the people, you know. We gotta give them something eplectical and electical and electrical.”

Catfish and the Bottlemen announce 2018 return

OHMYGOSSIP — Catfish and the Bottlemen have announced two huge outdoor gigs for 2018.
The ‘Twice’ rockers will perform at Spillers Wharf, Newcastle upon Tyne on May 25, and a second show at Cardiff Castle in South Wales on July 29.
The open air concerts, which will be the band’s first in nine months, follow the band – comprised of Van McCann, Johnny Bond, Benji Blakeway and Bob Hall – selling out shows earlier this year at Finsbury Park, London and Don Valley Bowl, Sheffield.
Frontman Van predicted early on that 2017 would be the “best” year for them, but with the new gigs announced and new music on the way, 2018 looks set to be just as fulfilling.
Speaking earlier this year, the rocker said: “Every fight’s been had, every joke’s been had.
“But this year will be, by a mile, our best yet.”
Van teased they will be releasing new music before the end of the year, and admitted they’d love nothing more than to churn out album after album every six months.
He said: “The end of the year is when we’re supposed to start recording but I think we’ll be done by then.
“I don’t know when we’ll be allowed but we’re ready to go, I’ve got the songs.
“We’d release an album every six months if we could but you’ve got to take them around the world and stick to the schedule.”
The band delivered ‘Outside’ from 2016 LP ‘The Ride’ as a single this year, but new music is yet to be unveiled.
Tickets for the two shows go on sale on Friday (15.12.17) from 10am.

Rita Ora to recruit fellow female pop stars for Girls music video

OHMYGOSSIP — Rita Ora will follow in the footsteps of pal Charli XCX by recruiting a star-studded cast for her new music video.
The pop babes previewed a live version of their duet called ‘Girls’ at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Hull earlier this year, and the ‘Your Song’ hitmaker has revealed her plans to get her fellow female musician friends to join forces for the girl power promo.
Rita told The Sun newspaper: “I have a really cool song called ‘Girls’ that has all my girls in the industry that I’m friends with, that I love.
“And they’re on the video, too.
“It’s going to be all about females.”
It comes after Charli said she’s eager to direct the video, after she enjoyed being in charge of the visuals for her song ‘Boys’.
Charli – who recently unveiled her third mixtape ‘Pop2’ – said previously: “It’s a strong possibility that I could shoot a video for Rita’s next single, it’s up to her really as it’s her song.”
And Rita, 27, has even been sharing her own plans with Charli for the promo.
The ‘After the Afterparty’ said: “She’s been sending me ideas for the video which are so cool, she has a vision for it.
“It’s always cool and easier working with your friends and people that you respect.”
Despite spending hours in movie studios, the singer has no desire to get in front of the lens and become an actress.
She added: “I wouldn’t go into acting, I prefer being behind the camera.”
Charli’s ‘Boys’ video saw her get a load of famous hunks into one space including Joe Jonas, Diplo, Carl Barat of The Libertines, Tinie Tempah, Charlie Puth, Bring Me The Horizon rocker Oli Sykes and Panic! At The Disco’s Brendan Urie.

Bon Jovi lead 2018 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees

OHMYGOSSIP — Bon Jovi, The Cars, Dire Straits, Moody Blues and Nina Simone are 2018’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees.
The ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ rockers were the frontrunners to receive the honour with a million fans voting for them in the poll.
Frontman Jon Bon Jovi says “it’s about time” the rock group – who have been eligible since 2008 – were inducted.
Speaking about the honour, Jovi said: “Well. I mean … we’re very happy about it. And um, you know. It’s great.
“I really want to say it’s about time.
“Am I relieved? Yeah.
“Am I pleased? Absolutely. But. It’s about time.”
Gospel star Sister Rosetta Tharpe was also recognised with an Award for Early Influence.
The 33rd Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, presented by Klipsch Audio, will take place on April 14, 2018 in Cleveland, Ohio.
Radiohead, who only made it to 12th place in the ballot, and failed to make the induction, recently played down the honour and the impact it would have had on the ground as a whole.
Other UK artists who made the shortlist were Depeche Mode, Kate Bush, Eurythmics and Judas Priest.
But Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien admitted he and his bandmates – frontman Thom Yorke, lead guitarist Jonny Greenwood, bassist Colin Greenwood and drummer Philip Selway – aren’t bothered by the nod because to them it’s just another awards ceremony.
He said recently: “It’s in our DNA to be a little ambivalent with award ceremonies.
“As a British band, it’s one of those things that it’s very lovely to be nominated, but we don’t quite culturally understand it. It’s a very American thing. Us Brits are very bad at celebrating ourselves.”

Zendaya reveals how she secured role in Bruno Mars video

OHMYGOSSIP — Zendaya starred in a Bruno Mars music video after impressing on ‘Lip Sync Battle’.
The 21-year-old actress makes an appearance in Bruno’s ‘Versace on the Floor’ video, and Zendaya has explained how she secured the role.
During an appearance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’, she said: “I impersonated Bruno for my lip sync battle.”
The ‘Greatest Showman’ actress’ performance was seen by Bruno and he decided to cast her in his video.
However, Zendaya was shocked by the invite because she didn’t feel her performance matched the smooth feel of the ‘Versace on the Floor’ video.
Zendaya shared: “He called and said, ‘Hey, I’m doing this video and I want to you be a part of it’ and I was like, why? Why me? How did that [‘Lip Sync Battle’] strike as graceful to you?'”
Meanwhile, Camila Cabello recently revealed she’s been inspired by Bruno to “step up her game”.
The former Fifth Harmony singer supported the ‘Uptown Funk’ hitmaker on his recent tour ’24K Magic World Tour’ and said one of the things she learned from the experience was to be “realistic” with yourself in order to get to “the next level”.
Camilla explained: “One of the things I learnt from the Bruno tour is just you know, being realistic with yourself and being like man I need to step up my game, or I need to work a lot harder to get on that level.
“Sometimes it’s real, you have to check yourself. Bruno is obviously, you know leagues ahead of where I am, but I’m saying even short term.
“Let’s say you’re in school or at an awards show or something and you’re like wow this person is killing it.
“It might hurt but you have to be realistic with yourself and be like yeah, they freaking killed it. But you know what? Next time I’m gonna step up my game.”

Kendrick Lamar almost collaborated with Prince

OHMYGOSSIP — Kendrick Lamar regrets missing out on the opportunity to collaborate with Prince.
The 30-year-old rap star spent some time in the studio with the legendary musician before his death in April last year, and Kendrick has admitted to allowing a once-in-a-lifetime chance pass him by.
He recalled: “I played him a record … called ‘Complexion’ – this just one of my favourite moments – and he liked the record.
“It was at his estate. … It’s one of those things where it was so much going on in the moment, man. I did a show that day with him on stage. I didn’t even know I was coming out on stage. Studio was next door where I just played him a song. We runnin’ back and forth. It was just one of them things where it was a lot.”
However, one artist Kendrick has successfully collaborated with is Taylor Swift, featuring on her single ‘Bad Blood’.
And he has now revealed the circumstances surrounding their unlikely partnership.
The rapper told radio host Howard Stern: “We both was in LA, so I came to her studio session. She had the music up and I started writing and jumped in the booth and we laid it down.
“With this particular record, it was me just vibing and catching her lyrics.
“I didn’t want to get into her head too crazy. I just wanted to have my own inspiration and see where it took it … Fortunately, the vibe was right and it didn’t take too many takes and we was really locked in on the chemistry and we really felt what was going on when I was in the booth.”

Robbie Williams wants Liam Gallagher collaboration

OHMYGOSSIP — Robbie Williams has revealed he wants to record a song with former rival Liam Gallagher.
The ‘Party Like A Russian’ hitmaker famously fell out with the former Oasis star back in the 90s, but after hearing Liam’s debut solo record ‘As You Were’ – and more specifically the single ‘For What It’s Worth’ – Robbie believes the pair could put their differences aside to collaborate on a track.
When asked about the prospect of teaming up with Liam, Robbie said: “Yeah, I’d do a song with him. My favourite song of the year is his track ‘For What It’s Worth’. I think it’s the best song either Liam or Noel has written in the last 20 years.”
Robbie, 43, believes the hit track is “amazing and timeless”, and whilst he’d love to perform it with the 45-year-old singer, he’s not sure Liam would be as pleased with the idea.
Speaking to NME magazine, he added: “It’s amazing and timeless; it just hits that sweet spot. It’s universal and speaks straight to the heart. He just got it completely right. I love it. Would I like to perform it with him at the NME Awards? I would like to see his face when you ask him.”
It isn’t the first time Robbie has considered recording with Liam either, as he previously claimed a collaboration between the pair would be “f***ing amazing”.
Asked when he last saw the singer, Robbie said: “Backstage at the Brits in – I don’t know – 2009? He was just walking past the dressing room. He’s got an album coming out and primarily I have always been a fan of Oasis and him. I’m looking forward to his album coming out …
“It would, it would be f***ing amazing [if they did something together]! But I don’t think he’s got it together enough to allow himself to do that. He’s not gonna work with f***ing Robbie Williams. It’s really unfortunate for me because I’d f***ing love it. And it would shock the world for a day.”
The pair famously fell out in the 1990s when Noel Gallagher, Liam’s older brother, called Robbie “the fat dancer from Take That”. A few years later, Liam started dating Nicole Appleton – who was Robbie’s ex-girlfriend – and during an appearance at the BRIT Awards in 2000, Robbie offered to fight the ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’ singer for £100,000.

Liam Gallagher ‘too rock ‘n’ roll’ to join ‘naff’ High Flying Birds

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher says he’s “too rock ‘n’ roll” to join his brother Noel Gallagher’s “naff band”.
The former Oasis frontman was told by one of his 2.63 million followers to start practicing a new instrument so he’s good enough to join his former bandmate’s live group, but said he wouldn’t dream of playing for his bitter sibling because his band are rubbish.
Replying to a fan on Twitter, who suggested her learns to play the tambourine – which Liam already uses on stage – so he can join Noel’s High Flying Birds, Liam snapped back: “I’m too rock n roll for his naff band (sic)”
‘Holy Mountain’ hitmaker Noel recently dismissed the ‘Wall of Glass’ hitmaker as his “former tambourine player”.
The 50-year-old rocker claimed Liam hadn’t yet made a song as good as Beatles parody group The Rutles’ track ‘Cheese and Onion’, a pastiche of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’.
Introducing the track on Radio X, Noel said: “The next song I’d like to dedicate to my ex-tambourine player, and all his fans, and this is the benchmark that any of you are yet to reach.”
Noel – who has barely spoken to Liam since Oasis split in 2009, following a backstage bust-up between the siblings at a concert in Paris – was recently the subject of jibes from his brother when he performed new song ‘She Taught Me How To Fly’, accompanied by a woman playing the scissors.
But Noel wasn’t upset by Liam – who joked he was going to have people sharpening pencils, sticking stickers down and peeling a banana on his own tracks – because he knew the unusual percussion instrument would bother Liam.
He said: “When she whipped out the scissors and started playing them, my bass player, I looked at him and said ‘This is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen… Do you know what that sound is? That’s the sound of Liam glassing himself’ and we laughed.
“Then after the night it was on the TV, somebody quipped ‘It’s almost like she’s snipping away at the last ribbons of Liam’s sanity.’ ”

Ed Sheeran to release Perfect featuring Andrea Bocelli

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran is releasing an orchestral version of ‘Perfect’ featuring Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli.
The track titled ‘Perfect Symphony’ is released on Friday (15.12.17), and follows the rendition featuring global megastar Beyonce – which is currently number one in the UK – and sees Ed sing in Italian, while the 26-year-old singer/songwriter’s brother Matt Sheeran has produced it.
Announcing the collaboration on Twitter, Andrea wrote: “We’re glad to announce that orchestral version of ‘Perfect Symphony’ by @edsheeran featuring Andrea Bocelli comes out this Friday. Orchestrated and produced by Matt Sheeran.(sic)”
Alongside a picture of the pair on Instagram, the ‘Castle on the Hill’ hitmaker added: “Orchestral version of Perfect with the amazing @andreabocelliofficial comes out friday. Orchestrated and produced by my super talented brother Matt, little gift for you all before Christmas. Hope you love it as much as I do. I sing in Italian too which is fun x (sic)”
It comes after ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker Ed recently hinted he’s dropping a new song in a bid to increase his chances of claiming this year’s Christmas number one.
He said previously: “I do have one more trick up my sleeve. It’s not like a Beyonce trick, but it’s quite a cool trick.”
Teasing it was a big star for the older “generation”, Ed added: “This next one, no-one’s expecting.
“It’s more for my dad’s generation. It’ll be out next week. You’ll see then.”
Ed also previously said he plans on dropping a ‘Despacito’ style remix of ‘Perfect’, but it is yet to surface.
Describing it previously, he said: “The vibe is that it’s a remix to ‘Perfect’. I’m just basically going to ‘Despacito’ ‘Perfect.'”

Johnny Marr and Maxine Peake’s surprise song

OHMYGOSSIP — Johnny Marr has teamed up with actress Maxine Peake for a completely “different” track, titled ‘The Priest’.
The former Smiths guitarist and co-songwriter – along with Morrissey – is a huge fan of the ‘Cake’ star and teamed up with her for the moving track about the plight of homelessness.
The song is based on the real-life experiences of former Big Issue magazine seller Joe Gallagher, and how he survived on the streets of Edinburgh.
For the track, Marr’s music is accompanied with Peake reading out poetry penned by Gallagher.
On how the collaboration came about, Marr said: “I wanted to do something different and I thought of asking Maxine to collaborate having been a fan of her work.
“We started a creative process that clicked and culminated in ‘The Priest’, a song and short film inspired by a facet of modern life as we see it and feel it.”
The song, which is out now, has been released alongside a short film, which was shot in Marr’s home city of Manchester and features Molly Windsor, Peake’s ‘Three Girls’ co-star, in the lead role.
The track will be followed up by his third solo album, which is inspired by the effects on the world of Donald Trump’s ascent to become President of the United States and Brexit in the UK.
The 54-year-old rocker is putting the finishing touches to the follow-up to 2014’s ‘Playland’, which is due to be released in spring 2018.
Marr admitted the turbulent political climate has found its way into his songs because the influence of British residents voting to leave the European Union and Trump’s behaviour in the White House are hugely important to him.
He explained recently: “I was trying to imagine an alternative society. Because of what had happened with Brexit and Trump and everything, I came into this record really determined to not let those f**kwits impede on my creative life
“But you’re living in this world and you can’t do anything about it. So much of the record is about dislocation. Whether it’s being forced by the political system or because of personal demons. I was trying to imagine an alternative society.”
When Marr was a member of legendary rock band The Smiths, he and singer Morrissey were never afraid to tackle heavyweight social and political issues on albums such as 1985’s ‘Meat Is Murder’ and 1986’s ‘The Queen Is Dead’.

Robbie Williams won’t rejoin Take That in 2022

OHMYGOSSIP — Robbie Williams has ruled out a reunion with Take That in the next five years.
The 43-year-old singer has dashed hopes of him and Jason Orange rejoining Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen for shows and new music to mark their 30th anniversary in 2022.
He told the latest issue of OK! magazine: “I’m in if it’s a five-piece. I’d probably be in even if it isn’t.
“That being said, that’s not on any calendar for the next five years.”
The ‘Giants’ trio have been eyeing getting Robbie and Jason back for what seems like years, and there was some hope when Gary said earlier this year that he thinks part-timer Robbie and Jason, 47 – who quit in 2014 – could return in 2022 for a “greatest hits” tour and possibly a record.
He said: “I don’t think anything we do with Rob is going to relate to like a big 25-year project.
“In fact, I’ll tell you this for the first time, we’re looking at 30 years.
“We’re planning something to do for the 30-year all together. We’re looking that far ahead, something big, maybe a new record, maybe a greatest hits with a big tour.”
Howard, 49, said then he would love to see the five of them back for good, but said he doubts it will ever happen.
He added: “A five-piece would be incredible. Whether that ever happens or not, that’s a different story. My gut’s telling me no. I’d love it to happen.
“That’s the nice thing, that we can all hope it will happen but, you know, no pressure on anybody to do anything.”
Gary – who announced a solo UK tour for 2018 – later admitted he’d given up hope on Jason rejoining the band.
He said: “He didn’t want creative involvement because we’re day-to-day on this and he wanted to leave.
“This has been weird with the whole Jason thing. He’d told us for a while, ‘I don’t want to be in music anymore, I don’t want to do this anymore’, and we’d push, push, push.
“At the end of the day you’ve got to accept someone doesn’t want to do what you’re doing anymore.”

Serge Pizzorno: Writing teams are spoiling music

OHMYGOSSIP — Kasabian’s Serge Pizzorno says artists who use a team of songwriters usually end up with tracks that “lack soul”.
The ‘Processed Beats’ star prefers it when musicians pen their own lyrics because they share a part of themselves with the listener.
He told the Metro newspaper: “It’s the ‘writing team’ thing.
“I understand it, it’s like American TV shows, the reason why they’re so great is because 15 people in a room write it.
“I can’t deny the tunes they’re writing.
“I just have time for that band that gets in a room and smashes it, or a singer/songwriter … you get them … you get a feeling of their soul.”
The 36-year-old rocker says it’s frustrating when other people get involved with writing music.
He said: “I’m sure I speak on behalf of any songwriter trying to get something together.
“You write one that’s great then someone comes along, ‘I wrote the top line melody’, I wrote the chorus – f*** you.'”
One person, who he thinks is nailing it though, is ‘New Shoes’ hitmaker Paolo Nutini.
Asked who is doing a good job, he said: “Paolo Nutini. I love that guy.”
Serge’s comments come after Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan said Arctic Monkeys and The Libertines are the only indie rock bands of the 2000s that survived.
He said: “There’s only us and the [Arctic] Monkeys left on that level.
“They’re great. Kaiser Chiefs too, probably. When we came out in 2004, you had Franz Ferdinand, Razorlight, Kings Of Leon, The Holloways, The Paddingtons, The Maccabees, Libertines had just finished.
“It was just a f**king good time. We were 22 and there was so much good music. Bands were back, there were loads of rock magazines, indie and rock ‘n’ roll were cool. We survived it.”
The singer concluded that rock ‘n’ roll was dead with pop music taking over.
He added: “Where is rock ‘n’ roll at the minute? It’s gone, isn’t it? I reckon it’s a mixture of everything.
“What runs the world at the moment? It’s R&B, pop, solo artists. Adele, she’s amazing … Ed Sheeran. There are no bands. ”
And Serge agreed: “Interestingly, they are the three – and the best three, which makes sense. We’ve got tunes, and strong, defined characters. Love them or hate them, you’re interested in where they’re going and what they’re going to do.”

The Cure’s 40th anniversary BST Hyde Park gig

OHMYGOSSIP — The Cure will mark their 40th anniversary as a band with a special gig at Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park.
The ‘Friday I’m In Love’ hitmakers – fronted by Robert Smith – have produced 30 million combined sales of 13 studio albums and more than 40 singles during their four-decade career, and will celebrate the milestone performing at the iconic landmark on July 7, with support from Interpol, Goldfrapp, Editors, Ride, Slowdive and The Twilight Sad.
James King, Senior Vice President, AEG Presents commented: “The Cure playing at Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park will be an incredible day where The Cure join the list of other global legends who have played the Great Oak Stage. On July 7 we celebrate the 40th anniversary of a truly iconic British band and it’s an honour that they have chosen to share this magical experience with us in Hyde Park.”
It follows the announcement that guitar legend Eric Clapton will headline on July 8.
The 72-year-old rocker first performed at the London location in 1969 as his debut with new group Blind Faith, and he can’t wait to return.
Eric said: “I have happy memories of performing in Hyde Park in the past and I’m really looking forward to playing there again – the whole atmosphere is very special.”
The ‘Wonderful Tonight’ star – who also performed at the park in 1996 and in 2008 – will be supported by Santana, Steve Winwood, and Gary Clark Jr.
Also performing next summer will be Pink Floyd star Roger Waters on Friday July 6, Michael Buble, making his only performance of 2018, on Friday July 13, and Bruno Mars on Saturday July 14.
They follow in the footsteps of The Rolling Stones, Carole King, Stevie Wonder and Tom Petty, who have all headlined the Great Oak Stage since the BST was launched in 2013.
