OHMYGOSSIP — James Arthur pulled out of his Teenage Cancer Trust show due to a pre-existing knee injury which caused him “crippling anxiety”.
The ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ hitmaker was devastated when he was forced to cancel his planned performance for the charity at London’s Royal Albert Hall in March, just hours before he was due on stage, due to suffering from poor mental health.
And now he has explained how not being able to run and exercise after sustaining the injury made him feel “trapped”.
He told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “There was a lot of things going on at the time and I’d actually injured myself, I’m still dealing with a knee injury.
“Running was one of the really helpful ways to combat the anxiety and I wasn’t able to do that so I felt a little bit trapped at the time. Simple stuff like playing football, staying healthy and mindfulness helps.”
The 31-year-old star – who shot to fame on ‘The X Factor’ – is still being treated and has to have injections in his knee.
He added: “It’s a thing I did a few years ago which I made considerably worse so I needed injections in my knees to reboot it. “I hope this last treatment I had will fix it.”
Despite not playing the show, James donated £1,000 to a terminally ill fan who is supported by the charity.
The ‘Empty Space’ hitmaker sent the money via a GoFundMe page set up for Jade Davis, on which she listed the 10 things she’d most like to do in her life, including meeting James.
Jade has Type 1 Chiari Malformation, which pushes the lower part of the brain into the spinal canal and means she cannot work, cook, or shower on her own.
Following his donation, Jade took to Twitter to post a screenshot of her GoFundMe page showing his generosity, and wrote: “What an amazing man @JamesArthur23 (sic)”
James told his fans he had been “badly” affected by his anxiety in the days leading up to the concert.
On Twitter, he wrote: “I’m deeply sorry to announce that I’m going to have to pull out of the Teenage Cancer Trust performance tonight.
“I have been feeling crippled by anxiety and poor mental health over the past few days and it’s badly affecting me. I simply cannot perform tonight.”
James then apologised to the Teenage Cancer Trust for dropping out of the show, and declared he is “looking to get help” from a professional for his mental health.
He added: “I would like to profoundly apologise to the amazing Teenage Cancer Trust team, to all that have bought tickets to see me and to the boys from Take That, it was a dream to be able to perform alongside them but devastatingly I cannot perform this evening.
“I promise I will make it up to you and I’m looking to get help for this x (sic)”

OHMYGOSSIP — Kelis’ rare 2001 album ‘Wanderland’ has appeared on streaming services for the first time.
The record was produced by Pharrell Williams’ band The Neptunes and didn’t officially release in North America and hadn’t been available on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music until now.
The ‘Milkshake’ hitmaker shared the news on her Instagram Stories by sharing fans’ posts about listening to the album digitally, but she hasn’t commented on why it has suddenly been released.
‘Wanderland’ was the singer’s second studio album on Virgin EMI.
The album was released in Europe and only had one single, ‘Young, Fresh n’ New’, which peaked at number 32 on the UK Singles Chart.
By October 2004, 17,000 copies were sold in the UK.
Kelis left Virgin around the time of the release because she felt the major label didn’t understand the record.
The track ‘Flash Back’, which became ‘Flashback’, later appeared on Kelis’ 2003 LP ‘Tasty’ and ‘Popular Thug’ saw rapper Pusha T replaced with Nas – Kelis’ ex-husband, with whom she has nine-year-old son Knight – and it was featured on The Neptunes’ 2003 compilation ‘Clones’.
Aside from music, Kelis trained part-time as a saucier between 2006 and 2010, and graduated from Le Cordon Bleu culinary school.
The US singer’s last record was 2014’s ‘Food’.
Kelis – who has three-year-old son Sheperd with husband Michael Mora – previously admitted that being signed to a record label felt like an “arranged marriage” that she “hated”.
She said: “Cooking school revolutionised everything in my life.
I had spent four years tied to a label I hated, which was like an arranged marriage. I felt exhausted, under-appreciated and really disrespected and it sucked. And then all of a sudden, I realised I could walk away from music and my life won’t shatter.”

OHMYGOSSIP — A Metallica pop-up and ‘Hardwired… And Early Dayz’ exhibition is set to hit London in partnership with The Kerrang! Awards and House of Vans.
Fans of the heavy metal titans will be able to immerse themselves in the ‘Enter Sandman’ hitmakers’ history as exclusive never-seen-before images taken by the rock magazine’s photographer Tom Barnes are set to go on display, with pages from the publication featuring the band from as early as 1982 through to 1989.
The event – which takes place for a month starting on June 18 – will also see the UK Premiere of ‘Murder In The Front Row’, the “uncensored and boisterous” documentary of The Bay Area Thrash scene.
The film, helmed by Adam Dubin, features interviews with Bay Area bands Metallica, Slayer, Exodus, Testament, Anthrax, and more.
A major highlight of the documentary is the influence Metallica’s guitarist Kirk Hammett – who prior to joining the band in 1983, founded thrash band Exodus – had on the scene.
Dubin explained: “I particularly think the movie will inspire viewers to re-evaluate the contributions of Kirk Hammett, who founded Exodus in the Bay Area three years before Metallica came to town.”
An exact date for the premiere is yet to revealed.
The pop-up at House of Vans takes place on June 19 and June 20, and will see Metallica merchandise on sale, whilst visitors can take in a special screening of a live recording of Metallica’s intimate set at the venue in Lambeth, South East London, from 2016, and sip on one of the band’s signature Enter Night Pilsner Beers, which is the official liquor for the Kerrang! Awards 2019.
The two events coincide with the band’s ‘Hardwired… To Self Destruct’ concert at London’s Twickenham Stadium on June 20 and the awards ceremony, which takes place on June 19.

Metallica are also nominated for Best British Live Act and Best International Act at the Kerrang! Awards.

OHMYGOSSIP — Cardi B has pulled out of Parklife Festival.
The 26-year-old rapper was due to headline the music spectacle at Manchester’s Heaton Park, north west England, on Saturday (08.06.19), but she has been forced to withdraw, just a month after she postponed several shows to recover from plastic surgery.
A tweet on the official Parklife Twitter account posted on Wednesday night (05.06.19) read: “We have just been notified that Cardi B will be unable to perform this weekend.
“We are currently working on an updated schedule, please see below for the full statement.”
The statement reads: “As some of you will have seen, Cardi B was forced to cancel some performances in May. The Parklife team have just been notified that Cardi now also needs to pull out of Parklife this weekend. As such there will be some changes to the previously advertised lineup, stage splits, and times. We are working on this currently.”
Parklife bosses said sorry to supporters for the “late notice”, but admitted they had “only just” received confirmation of Cardi’s withdrawal from the festival.
They added: “We are very sorry for the late notice but have only just had confirmation from Cardi’s team that she will not be able to perform. We all remain super excited for Parklife this weekend and cannot wait to see you in a completely transformed Heaton Park.
“The fully updated scheduled will be available via the Parklife app from 7pm on Friday.”
Last month, Cardi’s representative Patientce Foster revealed the rapper was under “strict doctor’s orders” to postpone her remaining shows in May.
She said: “Cardi was overzealous in getting back to work; she didn’t take the time necessary to fully recover from her surgery. Her strenuous schedule has taken a toll on her body and she has been given strict doctor’s orders to pull out of the rest of her performances in May.
“She’s very disappointed as she hates to let her fans down. She reassures them that she will see them in September.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Matthew Koma has blasted Zedd for his “toxic and self-serving” actions.
The 32-year-old songwriter – who is engaged to Hilary Duff – has launched a scathing attack on the EDM producer for taking the credit for all of the lyrics on their hit songs ‘Clarity’ and ‘Spectrum’ released in 2012.
In lengthy iPhone notes shared on his Twitter page, Koma wrote: “In response to years of: ‘What happened with you & Zedd.’ I want to finally be transparent about this.
“it’s a really sad truth because I’m extremely proud of the work he and I did together. Unfortunately my good feelings toward those songs have all but disappeared as they were experienced alongside someone so toxic and self serving that it occupied the space where any happiness could exist.
“It’s not that dramatic of a story and it comes down to something simple.
“S***** people suck and when they’re successful, people are afraid to blow the whistle … (sic)”
Koma also claimed the German-Russian multi-instrumentalist – whose real name is Anton Zaslavski – told him he didn’t want his name to feature on 2014 song ‘Find You’ and that he was the one who suggested the singer Foxes provide vocals on mega-hit ‘Clarity’ , but he wasn’t acknowledged for his efforts.
He fumed: “He won a Grammy for it – I wasn’t invited.
“There was a documentary about ‘the making of Zedd’ and I was the only collaborator not invited to the premiere or asked to be interviewed for the movie.”
He continued: “More or less, I was just brushed under the rug while he took all the credit.
“Confusing because the millions of people who connected to ‘Clarity’ and those other songs, seemed to connect to the lyrics/emotion/melodies I had written. But he deemed his Kick Drum sound the driving force and left me out of all shared credit.”
Koma – who has worked on songs for the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Shania Twain and 5 Seconds of Summer – also accused Zedd of doing the same thing to other people he’s worked with in the industry.
He wrote: “For years I thought maybe it was me, but over time, I’d run into other people who worked with him, other writers/singers/producers/DJs/people on his own team, and the sentiment was shared. He’s the worst.”
Whilst he admitted that he would rather “clean toilets” than work with him again.
He added: “Now, he has plenty of people to write his songs and produce his tracks and help him continue on his trajectory.
“But I rather work at Starbucks and clean the toilets than ever experience that abusive dynamic again. Toxicity doesn’t breed happiness.”
Zedd is yet to respond to Koma’s outburst.

OHMYGOSSIP — Sheryl Crow says her new album “may” be her last.
The country music legend is planning to “go out big” with her upcoming duets LP ‘Threads’, which features collaborations with the likes of Fleetwood Mac legend Stevie Nicks and Maren Morris on ‘Prove You Wrong’, Bonnie Raitt and Mavis Staples on ‘Live Wire’, plus songs with Eric Clapton, Sting and Willie Nelson, as she doesn’t see the point in releasing a record if people will only play one or two songs on streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music.
Speaking about the album on the red carpet at the CMT Music Awards in Nashville, Tennessee, on Wednesday (05.06.19) – where she duetted with Maren – she explained: “It’s very collaborative. I actually called in a lot of my friends who inspired me forever.
“It may be my final album, so I am going out big.
“I grew up in the age where people made albums.
“But now, I think people do playlists and they will only hear one of two songs off a full-length album that you tried to make a full artistic statement. I kind of like the idea now of just putting out songs.”
However, the 57-year-old superstar reassured her fans that she will still release singles.
She added to ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “[This will] not [be] my last music, but probably my last album project as a whole.”
The ‘Soak Up The Sun’ hitmaker also revealed how she came to meet ‘The Middle’ singer Maren, who she has tipped for huge success and longevity, and how she is “like a goddaughter” to her and Stevie.
She recalled: “I met [Maren] in a very early point in her career.
“She was actually looking for a record label and I heard some of her songs and I was like, ‘This girl is going to be around a long time.’
“We kind of brought her into the fray and keeping it going.”
‘Threads’ is slated for release on August 30.

OHMYGOSSIP — Noel Gallagher’s scissor player has pulled out of his world tour.
The 52-year-old rocker had enlisted the help of backing singer Charlotte Marionneau – who performed the unusual instrument during his performance of ‘She Taught Me How To Fly’ – for his forthcoming tour ‘Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ this summer but, “due to personal reasons”, she’s been forced to leave the forthcoming event.
Taking to his Twitter account, the former Oasis guitarist said: “It is with great sadness that NGHFB has to announce that Charlotte Marionneau will be leaving its 2019 world tour for personal reasons. We look forward to welcoming her back as soon as possible… ticket refunds will be available from the point of purchase” (NG) (sic)”
News that Noel has lost Charlotte from his tour will no doubt tickle his brother and rival Liam Gallagher as he has mocked him numerous times for using the scissor extraordinaire.
Ahead of his show at London’s Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club earlier this year, Liam had tweeted as a jibe at his sibling: “I’m looking for somebody to peel some spuds live on stage tonight at this gig in Bethnal Green must have own peeler as you were LG x (sic)”
But it’s not just the former Beady Eye frontman who thinks Noel’s choice of backing singer is hilarious as he was also mobbed by fans chanting “scissors scissors” during a night out.
He recalled at the time: “I’m going out with my friends and we’re in a car going up towards King Street and the car stops at the traffic lights. I was in the front seat and the car got surrounded by a load of geezers going ‘SCISSORS! SCISSORS!’ So I don’t care about the reaction. She’s in the band and that’s the end of it.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Madonna will perform at World Pride in New York City.
The ‘Hung Up’ hitmaker has confirmed speculation she’ll take part in the celebrations later this month as she’ll be on stage at the festival’s live music event, Pride Island, on June 30.
Wrapped in a rainbow towel and wearing a hat with the name of her song ‘Crave’ written on it, she said in a video shared to her Instagram account and first screened on the ‘Today’ show: “I hear you. I’ll be on Pride Island, where I was born.”
The 60-year-old superstar is expected to perform a selection of her songs at the event, which marks the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall uprising in New York.
Grace Jones is also set to headline the two-day event, while other performers include Teyana Taylor, Pabllo Vittar, Kim Petras, Amara La Negra, Abel and Morabito.
Madonna has long been an advocate for the LGBTQ community and ahead of the release of her upcoming album ‘Madame X’, she recently announced a new song, ‘I Rise’, which she’d written for “all marginalised people”.
She said: “I wrote ‘I Rise’ as a way of giving a voice to all marginalised people who feel they don’t have the opportunity to speak their mind.
“This year is the 50th anniversary of Pride and I hope this song encourages all individuals to be who they are, to speak their minds and to love themselves.”
And the ‘Material Girl’ singer was recently honoured with the Advocate for Change award at the 2019 GLAAD Media Awards.
She said in her speech: “Fighting for all marginalised people was a duty and an honour I could not turn my back on, nor will I ever.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Susan Boyle is heading out on tour for the first time in six years.
The former ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ star – who was runner up to dance troupe Diversity in 2009 – will be celebrating a decade since her memorable audition with a run of UK shows next year to support her latest album ‘Ten’.
She’s quoted by The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column as saying: “I’m thrilled to be coming back. I am also excited to be able to perform songs that you wouldn’t necessarily expect from me.
“I like to surprise. I surprised the world ten years ago and I want to surprise my fans again with some unexpected songs and brand new material.”
The tour will kick off at Dundee’s Caird Hall on March 3, with another 14 shows across the UK.
Susan returned to ‘BGT’ over the weekend as she sang a duet with took to the stage with Michael Ball for a beautiful rendition of ‘The Greatest Showman’s ‘A Million Dreams’.
Meanwhile, last month the 58-year-old singer revealed she recently learned to ride a bike and has now turned her attention towards flying.
Susan – who cannot drive a car – previously said: “I thought about the things I’ve missed out on before. I’m approaching 60 but who cares. I live a comfortable life and deserve to enjoy it. Mum never had enough money for a bike.
“I fancied a wee one to go to the shops on. I’ll be knackered but might end up with legs like [Olympic champion] Chris Hoy!”
Susan revealed her latest ambition shortly after she insisted she isn’t a “big spender”.
Asked how she treats herself, Susan – who has made millions from her career in the music business – said: “I like to take the bus to my local supermarket. I meet people there and have a good old blether.
“I’m not a big spender, because for 47 years I didn’t have any money and I struggled to pay the bills and buy food. It was pretty miserable.
“But now I can buy luxuries I could never have afforded before, like cottage pie. And things like lipstick and perfume I’d never had before. I’ve got quite a few now. I could probably sell you a few and work out a decent price?”

OHMYGOSSIP — Blink-182 will release a new album “this summer”.
The ‘What’s My Age Again’ rockers have been working hard on the follow up to 2016’s ‘California’, and now the group’s bassist and singer Mark Hoppus has revealed there is an official announcement “forthcoming”.
Speaking to KROQ-FM, he said: “There is not an exact date. It is coming out this summer. I was just on the phone earlier today with Ron Perry, who’s the head of our label, and we are figuring out the exact launch date.
“But we are finalising mixes right now, we have about half the album mastered, and the announce on when the album will be released will be forthcoming.”
Meanwhile, Mark also played down the idea of former band mate Tom DeLonge returning to the lineup.
He insisted: “There is not any talk of that right now. I mean I’ll never say never to anything, but that is a completely unfounded rumour at this point.”
The speculation comes after Tom – who was replaced by Alkaline Trio star Matt Skiba in 2015 – revealed he would love to be reunited with Mark and drummer Travis Barker one day.
The Angels and Airwaves frontman wants to get back with his former group – who he co-founded in 1992 – “in the future”, but he has “way too much going on” with his current band at the moment to think about a potential return
He previously said: “I get it – trust me, I love Blink and it’s given me everything in my life. And, you know, I plan on doing it in the future.
But right now there’s just no way – I have way too much going on because Angels and Airwaves is a part of To The Stars, and that’s why it works.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Christina Aguilera is working on a new, authentic Latin album.
The ‘Beautiful’ hitmaker has released eight studio records to date, but she revealed she is currently looking at making a follow-up to her 2000 Latin LP ‘Mi Reflejo’.
She told Billboard: “I’ve been wanting to do it for years. But I want to do it the right way.
“I want to work with musicians and beautiful people from the Latin world who just eat, sleep and breathe it, and live it, and learn from them. I want to really experience it from the ground up.”
The 38-year-old singer grew up in Staten Island in New York City and revealed while her parents spoke Spanish around the house, she “never fully learned” it herself.
In preparation for the upcoming album, she has started lessons in between recording and playing her Las Vegas residency.
She added: “I always heard my parents speak it in the house, but I never fully learned [Spanish].
“I’m even digging in and trying to start the lessons – it’ll take a little time balancing the show and the recording hours, but it’s coming.”
Christina’s Sin City show ‘Xperience’ kicked off on Friday (31.05.19) at the Zappos Theatre in Planet Hollywood, and she is determined to add to the legacy of female artists performing in Vegas.
She said: “It’s truly a blessing to feel the female energy here [in Las Vegas]. It’s always important to me too that I’m not just stepping into a man’s world and that this is an opportunity to be yet another kick-ass female to own f***ing Vegas

OHMYGOSSIP — Pete Doherty refused to listen to Arctic Monkeys when they started out because he feared they would be much better than his band The Libertines.
The 40-year-old rocker avoided Alex Turner’s songs for a “long, long time” because he “heard they were good” and would give him an inferiority complex.
In an interview on ‘Phil Taggart’s Slacker Podcast’, Pete said: “The Arctic Monkeys, I just refused to listen to them and managed to avoid them for a long, long time, that’s because I heard they were good and I didn’t want to listen to them.”
Pete went on to spill that he and the ‘R U Mine?’ hitmakers – who released their debut LP ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’ in 2006 – have a strained relationship due to comments he has made and several snubs all of which mean he has never met any of the band, which is comprised of Alex, Matt Helders, Jamie Cook and Nick O’Malley.
He added: “There’s been a few things that have happened where I didn’t know them by sight and they’ve come to say hello and I’ve had them slung out or something, and then when I tried to go say hello I wasn’t allowed to go anywhere near their backstage … so I still haven’t met them.”
The ‘Can’t Stand Me Now’ singer has now listened to their albums and he has to begrudgingly concede that Alex, 33, is a “good songwriter” although joked that he “pulls apart” his relationships on his tracks and feels there are “a few embarrassed girls out there” who previously
Speaking of Alex, he said: “I suppose he’s a good songwriter, isn’t he?
“I wouldn’t want to be in a relationship with him though. He really pulls them apart in those songs, the ones that I’ve heard, you know? There’s a few embarrassed girls out there I’ll tell you now.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Pixies have announced their new album ‘Beneath The Eyrie’.
The alternative rock band – currently comprised of Black Francis, Joey Santiago, David Lovering and Paz Lenchantin – will release their seventh studio album, the follow-up to 2016’s ‘Head Carrier’ on September 13 this year.
The ‘Where Is My Mind’ hitmakers have also shared the first song from the album ‘On Graveyard Hill’ and the record has been described as a “tale of witches, Daniel Boone, misfits and other characters fit utterly into the band’s inherent weirdness.”
The record – which was recorded in December at Dreamland Recordings near Woodstock, New York – will be the band’s first on their record new label, Infectious/BMG and the 12-track album will see Tom Dalgety, who also worked on ‘Head Carrier’ serve as producer.
The record is available for pre-order now and will be released in a standard 12-song CD, standard heavyweight single gatefold coloured vinyl as well as a deluxe box set, standard heavyweight single gatefold black vinyl, deluxe CD in a hard casebound book, cassette, digital download.
The rockers have also revealed a new podcast ‘It’s a Pixies Podcast’ which will document the recording of the album over 12-episodes narrated by author Tony Fletcher and created by the band.
This news comes after the ‘Here Comes Your Man hitmakers announced a gigantic upcoming 2019 UK and European tour.
Kicking off in September, the tour will see the band calling at Cardiff, Plymouth, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, London, Newcastle, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Belfast and Dublin before heading out of the UK to perform in the likes of of Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Spain and Portugal .

OHMYGOSSIP — Miley Cyrus has unveiled her new EP, ‘She Is Coming’.
The 26-year-old singer dropped new music on Friday (31.05.19) morning including collaborations with Ghostface Killah and Swae Lee as well as ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ star RuPaul.
In the track ‘Mother’s Daughter’, Miley sings about the impact her mom Trish has had on her career, whilst in another song ‘D.R.E.A.M.’ – which stands for Drugs Rule Everything Around Me – she references her party lifestyle, whilst Wu Tang Clan’s Ghostface Killah raps about drugs.
In ‘Unholy’, she claims people view her as “obscene”, singing: “You hate me, you love me, you just wanna touch me.”
Miley took to social media to announce the news, writing: “SHE IS COMING out everywhere now ! #SheIsComing (sic)”
And she later revealed this was the “first of three drops” as she promised there would be more music on the way.

Miley previously insisted she is confident fans will be delighted with her new collection of songs.
She tweeted: “Just played the record for @iHeartRadio and they f***ing flipped and so will you! [crossed finger emojis] (sic)”
And earlier this year, the ‘Malibu’ hitmaker spoke about her inspiration when it came to working on her next album with producer Mark Ronson and accidentally let one of her song titles slip.
She shared: “Me and [producer] Mark [Ronson] have worked on a bunch of songs on my next record, so I was kind of just in this creative space. Sometimes the visuals of what I can imagine it looking like can even inspire me in the vocal booth, and so you can put those messages you want to bring – what it’s really about to you – into it. I’m such a visual person, that when I record a vocal take – this is really creepy, this is a girl thing – I imagine what lipstick I’ll be wearing in the music video… like ‘Bad Karma’ – ooh, I shouldn’t have said that, well, there you go. A song that we’ve done together.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Katy Perry wants to focus on releasing music when it’s ready rather than working her schedule around world tours.
The ‘Never Really Over’ hitmaker released the new track this week – her first solo material since 2017 album ‘Witness’ – and she revealed there are no plans to head out on the road at the moment because “one thing suffers” if she tries to combine both parts of her job.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column, she said: “I don’t really want to go on tour right now. I can’t make a record while I’m on the road because one thing suffers.”
Katy, 34, added that the music industry has changed a lot in the past 11 years, and it’s not the same as it was when she brought out her 2008 debut album ‘One Of The Boys’.
The ‘I Kissed A Girl’ singer explained: “I feel a little bit like 2008 was a time, and now 2019 is a totally different time, and all of the change that has happened in between that, it’s a totally different playing field.
“I mean, you have to rewire and relearn. I would say that, as an observer, and a big fan of music, there are fewer characters. Lots of songs come out, but fewer characters and personalities.”
Meanwhile, the superstar also keeps busy with her role on ‘American Idol’, and during the most recent series she gushed about how rewarding the whole experience is.
She recently said: “We are so invested… Honest to God, we are following our intuition. There is no script, this is just like the universe giving us gorgeous blessings.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher’s new album title is seemingly inspired by John Lennon.
The former Oasis frontman announced the name of his second solo LP this week as ‘Why Me? Why Not?’ – the follow up to 2017 hit ‘As You Were’ – and the two phrases can be revealed to be a combination of the titles of two self-portraits drawn by the late Beatles legend.
“Why Me?” originally drawn by Lennon in 1978 and shows the ‘Imagine’ songwriter standing before himself asking his alter-self: “Why have I been so blessed? Why do I exist? Why have I chosen to act as a voice of reason asking people to live in peace and to love one another?”
Both phrases were used by John to state his belief that there are two types of people in the world – “why me? and why not?”
Liam has been a lifelong fan of John and his music and even named his eldest son Lennon – his child with ex-wife Patsy Kensit – after the iconic musician. He also sampled his voice on 2008 Oasis single ‘I’m Outta Time’ – which he penned for the band’s final studio album ‘Dig Out Your Soul’.
The 46-year-old singer previously stated he believes that John -who was tragically shot and killed outside his Manhattan apartment in The Dakota building in 1980 at the age of 40 – is his “spiritual guide” and has been “looking out” for him.
Speaking of John, the ‘Wall of Glass’ hitmaker said: “[He’s my] spiritual f***ing guide. I do believe he’s here. I do believe that he’s looking out for me.”
Liam was also invited by John’s widow Yoko Ono to visit the New York home she had shared with the musician from 1973 until his tragic death.
Whilst there, the ex-Oasis star was fascinated by a banner written in Japanese that she had in her kitchen, and once Yoko had translated the words for him Liam wrote the saying down and he has included it in his song ‘I’ve All I Need’.
Liam revealed: “There’s a line in there (on ‘I’ve All I Need’) that says ‘I hibernate and sing, while gathering my wings.’ I was over in New York once and I got a call saying, ‘Yoko wants to meet you’, and I just called me kid Lennon. So anyway we go to Yoko’s house in the Dakota building. Cut a long story short, we go in there and in the kitchen – she invites us in and makes us a cup of tea – and she’s got this banner, massive banner round the kitchen, and I said, ‘Oh what does that mean?’ And she goes, ‘Oh John asked the same question when we went to Japan to meet my parents.’ Anyway it says ‘while I’ve been hibernating, I’ve been gathering my wings’, and it was when he stopped making music. So I thought, write that down. So anyway, years go by, I’ve been trying to get it in to a song, could never get it in, and then it happened on that.”
Liam is set to drop his new single ‘Shockwave’ on June 7, the day after his new documentary film ‘As It Was’ is released in cinemas.
