Jess Glynne cancelled Isle of Wight festival due to ‘anxiety’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jess Glynne pulled out of the Isle of Wight festival on Sunday (16.06.19) as she was “weak and full of anxiety”.
The 29-year-old singer has apologised to her fans for dropping out of the annual music extravaganza at Seaclose Park, Newport, 10 minutes before her set and explained that although she was “gutted” to cancel the show, she “just couldn’t do it”.
Sharing a blank Instagram post, she said: “I am a human being and I can’t help that my body sometimes gives up on me. I am so so gutted, sorry and upset that I couldn’t perform yesterday. I came all the way I got ready and was about to head to stage but I just couldn’t do it.
“I was incredibly weak and full of anxiety. The last thing I ever want to do is let people down, I am sorry to anyone who I upset it was not my intention. I had to do what was right for my physical and mental health. (sic)”
The ‘Thursday’ hitmaker went on to say that she’s taking time off to get herself “better and to step away from the madness”.
She wrote: “Kills me having to explain myself but I’ve just seen so much negativity online and in the press and it’s so frustrating and a load of bullshit. I refuse to be made to feel like a bad person. I’m sure many of you out there haven’t been well a day in your life and not been able to go to work.
“Well, I’m no different to you! I’m now taking this week off to get myself better and to step away from the madness. To all my fans I love you and thank you and will always make sure I’m at my best for you! Love always! Jx (Sic)”

Keane stopped getting into Isle of Wight Festival by security

OHMYGOSSIP — Keane were stopped by security while trying to get into the Isle of Wight Festival.
The piano-led band – comprised of Tom Chaplin, Tim Rice-Oxley, Richard Hughes and Jesse Quin – returned to the stage after seven years, headlining the Big Top at the festival, however drummer Richard, 43, revealed they struggled getting backstage after the security guards didn’t recognise them.
Speaking to Absolute Radio at the music extravaganza, he said: “Well, we were just trying to get into the site and one of the security guys wouldn’t let us in.
“The thing is … things like that just get funnier and funnier the more they happen.
“Then the longer it goes on, the guy is just standing there and we’re just sitting in this bus and it just got funnier as the situation got more absurd.
“He said: ‘What time are you on?’ and we said: ’11pm’ and he said: ‘Well that’s okay. You can go round the one way system again it’ll only take an hour and a half’ … not living the dream at all are we?!”
It was revealed earlier this year that the ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ hitmakers had put aside their differences and would start making music again after the group disbanded in 2013, a year after releasing their fourth studio LP ‘Strangeland’.
At the beginning of 2019, the group decided to reunite and frontman Tom insists they needed that time apart because he hadn’t fully overcome his addiction to cocaine, a problem he first went to rehab for in 2006.
Opening up on their split, Tom previously said: “It was probably mostly my fault. Back in 2012/13 I wanted to do something else with my life for a bit.
“I felt creatively I wanted to write and needed space and time to do that. The other thing was, unconsciously, I needed time to finish off my addictive behavior.”
The band recently announced their new album ‘Cause and Effect’ will be released on September 20.

Dave Mustaine diagnosed with throat cancer

OHMYGOSSIP — Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine has been diagnosed with throat cancer.
The 57-year-old frontman has revealed that he has recently found out he has the disease and he is currently undergoing treatment, which doctors have told him has a “90 per cent success rate”.
Announcing the news on Instagram on Monday (17.06.19), Mustaine wrote: “I’ve been diagnosed with throat cancer. It’s clearly something to be respected and faced head on – but I’ve faced obstacles before. I’m working closely with my doctors, and we’ve mapped out a treatment plan which they feel has a 90% success rate. Treatment has already begun.”
The ‘Sweating Bullets’ rockers have postponed all of their 2019 dates as a result, but they have vowed that their Megacruise, which takes place between October 13 and October 18, which sees them headline with acts including Anthrax, Testament and Suicidal Tendencies also due to perform, will still go ahead and they will be there in “some form”.
Mustaine – who is joined by David Ellefson, Kiko Loureiro and Dirk Verbeuren in the Grammy-winning thrash metal group – continued: “Unfortunately, this requires that we cancel most shows this year. The 2019 Megacruise will happen, and the band will be a part of it in some form. All up to date information will be at megadeth.com as we get it. Megadeth will be back on the road ASAP.”
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers are also still ploughing ahead with work on their first new record since 2016’s ‘Dystopia’, whilst Mustaine says he is “thankful” to his fellow bandmates, team and his doctors for their support at this difficult time.
The ‘Symphony of Destruction’ singer concluded: “Meanwhile, Kiko, David, Dirk and I are in the studio, working on the follow up to Dystopia – which I can’t wait for everyone to hear.
“I’m so thankful for my whole team – family, doctors, band members, trainers, and more.
“I’ll keep everyone posted.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“See you soon
“Dave Mustaine (sic)”
A number of Mustaine’s peers have sent their well wishes to him on social media.
Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta, 41, tweeted: “Sending love brotha. (sic)”
Thrash metallers Overkill wrote: “Sending positive vibes to @DaveMustaine who has just been diagnosed with throat cancer. Stay strong brother!”
Mustaine – who has Electra, 21, with wife Pamela Anne Casselberry and Justis, 27, from a previous relationship – was a member of rival band Metallica before he was let go in 1983 because of his battle with alcoholism and drugs.
He was replaced by current lead guitarist Kirk Hammett and went on to form Megadeth that same year.
Prior to joining the ‘Nothing Else Matters’ group, Mustaine was in the band Panic.

Slipknot’s Jim Root cannot compare new album to Iowa

OHMYGOSSIP — Slipknot’s Jim Root says it would be “contrived” to compare their new album to their second record ‘Iowa’.
The 47-year-old guitarist believes it is “bad” to talk about similarities between their forthcoming sixth studio album ‘We Are Not Your Kind’ and previous work the band have done, because the heavy metal outfit were different people in 2001.
He said: “I would never in a million years compare anything we’ve done to anything we’ve previously done.
“I don’t believe in it. I think it’s bad, because no matter … I mean, you could say, ‘Oh, we’re gonna write the heaviest album of all time,’ or, ‘We’re gonna write an album that sounds like ‘Iowa’.’
“Even if we set out to try to do so, it would never compare. We’re not those people anymore. We’re not that band anymore.
“That was a place in time; it was a snapshot of who we were at that time; and to try to recreate that, I think, would be contrived, and our fans would see right through it.
“And even if it was a great, really heavy, aggressive, organic record like that, the comparison wouldn’t match up to it.”
Jim’s comments come after Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor admitted ‘We Are Not Your Kind’ “lyrically has the force of ‘Iowa'” and said the album “musically has the heaviness but the experimentation as well”.
While Jim insists he likes to look at all the band’s new albums as “an evolution”, he accepts the record-making processes could be compared.
He added to Kerrang Radio: “I like to look at everything as an evolution. And if I’d compare anything, it wouldn’t be the songs themselves; it might be the process itself.
“Now, sonically, it’s [the album is] gonna be different. That’s another thing – sonically, you’ll never match something you’ve done before. It’s hard to chase a vibe and catch a vibe.
“That’s why I don’t necessarily enjoy it when bands cover other songs. You’ll never recreate what has been done, especially if it’s something that’s legendary and classic.”

Elton John and Taron Egerton duet on Your Song at Hove show

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Elton John treated fans to a duet of ‘Your Song’ with ‘Rocketman’ star Taron Egerton at the opening night of his UK leg of his ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour’.
The 29-year-old actor – who plays Elton in the blockbuster musical – joined the ‘Crocodile Rock’ hitmaker for a spellbinding rendition of the 1970 hit at Hove’s County Ground in East Sussex, England, on Sunday night (09.06.19).
Taron rocked a rainbow shirt and Elton’s signature oversized spectacles, whilst the music legend himself wore a sparkly pink dressing gown and matching glasses.
Every time Taron performs ‘Your Song’, he is no doubt reminded on his audition for a place at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, when he was 19 in 2009, which saw him sing the song Elton penned with long-time songwriting partner Bernie Taupin.
The first night of Elton’s farewell tour drew in a star-studded crowd, with the likes of Rag’n’Bone Man, BBC Radio 2 presenter Zoe Ball and comedians David Walliams, Alan Carr and John Bishop in attendance.
It was a special evening for Elton as some of his father Stanley Dwight’s family were also there.
Elton said: “I love you all so much”, before he performed ‘Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me’.
The 72-year-old superstar played for two-and-half-hours and opened the set with ‘Bennie and the Jets’, before playing all the hits, including ‘Tiny Dancer’ and ‘I’m Still Standing’, and ended with an emotional rendition of ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’.
Elton has been seen in a wheelchair recently after spraining his ankle, but the iconic musician promised to give his fans the best possible show as he played down any potential health fears and insisted he is “physically very fit”.
He said recently: “A show that long is easy. I play tennis three times a week and walk in the pool three times a week, so I’m physically very fit, and that’s stamina.”
Elton – who has sons Zachary, eight, and Elijah, six, with husband David Furnish – previously had to cancel two Florida shows in November due to an ear infection.
At the time, the ‘Candle in the Wind’ hitmaker said he was “deeply sorry” to be cancelling the shows but he wouldn’t be able to “deliver the performance fans deserve” if he went ahead with the concerts.
Now, Elton is looking towards the end of his career as a live musician, and while he’s still incredibly passionate about performing he doesn’t want that side to take its toll on his personal life.
He added: “I just don’t like schlepping any more. I mean, I schlep in the best way possible. It’s emotional, but it’s good emotional.
“I’m not crying about leaving everything — I wanted to go out and really enjoy it. I suppose towards the end it will be different, but at the moment I’m having a ball. I’m on a high.”

Mumford and Sons will rock into their 70s

OHMYGOSSIP — Mumford & Sons predict they will still be making music and touring in their 70s.
The ‘I Will Wait’ hitmakers – who released their fourth studio album ‘Delta’ in November – have vowed to keep on rocking into retirement age, as over a decade since the band formed in 2007, they are still loving what they do and find it “more interesting” now than they did at the beginning of their career.
Referencing 72-year-old music icon Sir Elton John’s 50-year-career, the band’s multi-instrumentalist Ben Lovett told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Elton doesn’t need to do it at all – he does it because that’s what he’s here to do on this earth.
“There’s a sense of duty to it and that’s what is really beautiful.
“I could totally see us doing it in 40 years because it’s going to be just as interesting.
“And I say that because we’ve been doing it for over 10 years now and it’s got more interesting.”
Ben admitted that touring is “very addictive” and that they “massively appreciate” their fans filling arenas.
He added: “I massively appreciate it when anyone comes to our gigs now.
“I didn’t even clock that years ago — and now it blows my mind that people want to do that.
“We’re insatiable when it comes to touring. It’s very addictive.”
Frontman Marcus Mumford – who has daughter Evelyn, three, and welcomed son Wilfred into the world with wife Carey Mulligan in September 2017 – says that he actually ends up spending more time with his family than he would if he was in a normal job when the band tour because they have long periods off the road.
He insisted: “No one is telling us to do this. We love it. Everyone works hard, everyone’s away from their family.
“I probably see as much of my kids as lots of friends who do nine-to-five jobs, because we’re then off for a week between sections of the tour so we are just at home.”

The ‘Plug in Baby’ rockers’ recent stadium run was a departure from their famous theatrical and technically ambitious concerts.
Matt previously explained: “I think I am interested now in making the show involve a lot of additional people. It won’t be dance routines – but choreographed theatrics of some kind.
“We’ve done a lot with technology – the screens and drones and so on – but I think it is time for us to do something that involves people and get a cast together that brings our songs to life with people performing.”

Travis Scott announces one-off London show

OHMYGOSSIP — Travis Scott has announced a one-off London show.
The ‘Butterfly Effect’ rapper will bring his acclaimed ‘Astroworld – Wish You Were Here’ live show to The O2 arena on July 16, with very special guests set to join the 27-year-old superstar at the concert.
Travis’ third studio album ‘Astroworld’ – which was released last August – led to the US musician completing an extensive North American tour, performing at the MTV VMAs (Video Music Awards) and host his very own Astroworld Festival in his home city of Houston, Texas.
It featured collaborations with the likes of Drake, Kid Cudi, Frank Ocean, James Blake and The Weekend.

The ‘SICKO MODE’ hitmaker – who has 12-month-old daughter Stormi Webster with 22-year-old beauty mogul and reality star Kylie – shared: “One of my idols is Kid Cudi and the way he tells his stories about how he felt as a kid growing up, like where he’s from. I related to that. I adopted my own form of storytelling – whether it’s through melodies or through raps or both. And as a producer too, just studying other fire producers – Pete Rock, Kanye, Pharrell – I was always into mixing different genres. I wasn’t stuck solely in one field.”

Rihanna’s album still incomplete

OHMYGOSSIP — Rihanna doesn’t know when her next album will be released.
The 31-year-old singer has been keeping fans waiting for her ninth studio album since the release of ‘Anti’ in 2016, and has said she’s still working on recording the new material, so doesn’t have a release date in mind yet.
When asked how much longer fans would have to wait, she said: “I wish I knew. I have blocked off a solid period of time for the studio next month.”
The ‘Work’ hitmaker says it “sucks” that she can’t just put her new music out into the world, but insists she doesn’t want to “rush” the material.
She added: “It really does suck that it can’t just come out, because I’m working on a really fun one right now. I’m really happy with a lot of the material we have so far, but I am not going to put it out until it’s complete. It makes no sense to rush it, but I want it out. I’ve gotten to the point where I’m like, “Even if I don’t have the time to shoot videos, I’m going to put an album out.'”
Rihanna also admits her business empire is partly to blame for the lengthy time between records now, as she’s having to divide her energy between her music career, as well as her fashion and beauty lines.
Speaking to Interview magazine, she said: “It’s the reason why an album isn’t being spat out like it used to. I used to be in the studio, only the studio, for three months straight, and an album would come out. Now, it’s like a carousel. I do fashion one day, lingerie the next, beauty the next, then music the next. It’s like having a bunch of kids and you need to take care of them all.”

Selena Gomez ‘finally’ finishes new music

OHMYGOSSIP — Selena Gomez has “finally” finished her new music.
The ‘Come and Get It’ hitmaker suggested she has completed her project after teasing her fans with social media posts from the studio over the past few months as she continued to work on her highly anticipated third solo album.
Asked about new music, she excitedly told Entertainment Tonight: “Yes! Yes! It’s finally done.”
Although Selena refused to give any more details – simply teasing “that’s all” we know for now – it comes after she admitted she was “nervous” about the follow-up to 2015 LP ‘Revival’.
She revealed on her Instagram Story: “I’m currently in the studio and it’s going really good.
“I’m just nervous about it, honestly, ’cause I feel like the next few choices that I’m gonna make are very crucial. So I’m trying to be really really diligent and just patient with everything.”
But while the 26-year-old singer is taking her time with the recording process, she’s promised her fans won’t have too long to wait before they can hear the album.
She added: “But I love you guys very much. The album is coming very soon!”
Last month, Selena teamed up with Benny Blanco, Tainy, and J. Balvin on ‘I Can’t Get Enough’ and in January she featured on Julia Michaels’ song ‘Anxiety’, but hasn’t released her own solo music since 2018’s ‘Back To You’, which was recorded for the ’13 Reasons Why’ soundtrack.
Prior to that, her last release was the series of non-album singles she put out in 2017, including ‘Wolves’, ‘Bad Liar’, and ‘Fetish’.
The ‘Good for You’ singer has also reportedly signed a deal with Live Nation which will see her go on a world tour in support of her next album, which is being produced by her ‘Fetish’ producer Leland.

NSYNC to discuss further reunion offers this summer

OHMYGOSSIP — Lance Bass says *NSYNC are planning to sit down and “figure out” further reunion plans.
The ‘Bye Bye Bye’ boyband – also comprised of JC Chasez, Lance Bass and Chris Kirkpatrick – were reunited by Ariana Grande at Coachella in April, with Justin Timberlake the only band member not to take part in the mashup of ‘Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored’, which samples their track ‘It Makes Me Ill’, and their 90s’ hit ‘Tearin’ Up My Heart’.
Since the performance at the world-famous event, they have been inundated with offers, and Lance has admitted it would be “stupid” not to consider them, so they are planning to get together this summer to work out which is the best deal for them.
Speaking to Variety, he said: “We haven’t talked about what the next step is but I know we’ll sit down during the summer together and figure it out.
“There are many, many things coming across our desk because of Coachella that we would be stupid not to discuss and look at.
“Coachella was incredible and it was a big moment for *NSYNC.”
Although he didn’t make Coachella, Justin was thrilled to see his bandmates perform again.
Sharing a picture of the performance on his Instagram account, he wrote: “You guys killed it last night.”
It’s believed Justin was unable to make the gig as he hadn’t had time to rehearse with the band due to his own touring commitments, TMZ reported.
Justin and *NSYNC have remained friends since they went their separate ways and he previously described them as a “family” as the group were honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.
Speaking at the ceremony recently, Justin said: “These four guys mean so much to me. We’re really a family and the memories that we have and the times that we’ve shared and the families that we’ve built from it … I don’t think I could really put into words how much the four of you mean to me.”
The ‘Cry Me A River’ hitmaker had previously confessed he had left *NSYNC because he felt he was “growing out of it”.
Speaking about the split, he shared: “We were on a stadium tour, and I just felt like the whole thing was too big. It started as a fun snowball fight that was becoming an avalanche. And, also, I was growing out of it. I felt like I cared more about the music than some of the other people in the group. And I felt like I had other music I wanted to make and that I needed to follow my heart.”

The Wombats’ Murph releases solo single with Maddi Waterhouse

OHMYGOSSIP — The Wombats’ Matthew ‘Murph’ Murphy has duetted with Suki Waterhouse’s sister Maddi Waterhouse on his debut solo single ‘My Cheating Heart’.
The ‘Moving to New York’ hitmaker has unveiled his new project Love Fame Tragedy, which will feature guest appearances on tracks from Maddi, Pixies star Joey Santiago and Alt-J’s Gus Unger-Hamilton.
Murph has described his new side piece as his “Gorillaz” (Blur’s Damon’s Albarn’s cartoon band) moment.
He said: “Yeah, it’s somewhere between Gorillaz and a solo project.
“I wanna keep collaborating and getting people on board, and if they’re around in the same vicinity and we can make it happen, that would be awesome.”
The indie musician revealed that he and Joey bonded over “excess in the past” and “golf and food and coffee” when The Wombats and Pixies toured with Weezer in 2017.
The 34-year-old singer recalled to NME.com: “We got on when we were doing the Pixies and Weezer tour.
“We had breakfast in Oklahoma one day and really got on.
“We had quite a few things in common, one of those being our relationship with excess in the past, and golf and food and coffee, all this s***.
“All of the Pixies band and crew were awesome but out of the whole tour he was the one true friend I made, I think.”
The pair previously met at a festival a few years prior to the tour and hit it off immediately.
Murph says that his bandmates have no issue in his solo project and have been really supportive.
He said: “They’re pretty positive. They’ve done their own stuff and I’m sure they knew it was coming and they’ve both been really supportive. I don’t think they’re running marathons holding a Love Fame Tragedy torch but they’re supportive of it.”
The Liverpool band have a huge fan in fellow Liverpudlian Sir Paul McCartney, who even offered to produce their album back in 2008.
The Beatles legend said at the time: “I don’t do much production now, but it might be very tempting.
“I’m not sure they would want me.”
Murph, who had music lessons with the ‘Let It Be’ hitmaker, would love to get Macca on a song for Love Fame Tragedy.
He said: “That would be really good. For now it’s play the cards close to the chest with people you actually know well and obviously if things go well, start throwing it out to whoever.
“I don’t really care what people think of me so I’ll ask whoever, whether they tell me to f*** off or not.”

Mac Miller’s first posthumous single to drop this week

OHMYGOSSIP — Mac Miller’s first posthumous release with Anderson .Paak’s The Free Nationals will be released on Wednesday (12.06.19).
The late rap star – who died of a drug overdose in September, aged just 26 – appears on the track ‘Time’, which also features the vocals of American-Colombian star Kali Uchis.

Mac previously teamed up with the California star for his 2016 hit ‘Dang’ for his LP ‘The Divine Feminine’.
Whilst The Free Nationals were the backing band for Mac’s memorial concert in October.
The ‘A Celebration of Life’ benefit, which also saw the likes of Donald Glover and Pharrell Williams pay tribute to the hip-hop star, was reported to have made around $350,000 for The Mac Miller Circles Fund – which was setup in memory of the ‘Come Back To Earth’ rapper to provide funding and resources to underprivileged youths desperate to explore the arts in his hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
TMZ.com claimed that on top of the thousands of dollars made at the show, MMCF received a similar amount in donations.
Speaking previously of the achievements of the organisation, Mac’s mother Karen Meyers said: “The support we’ve experienced is evident in this amazing lineup and is a testament to Malcolm’s incredible life.
“He was a caring, loving human with a smile that could light up the sky and a soul that was out to make the world a kinder place and the MMCF will continue to do just that.”
Stars from the music world came out to honour the late rapper by performing covers of his much-loved songs at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, whilst sharing their memories of Mac.
In a video message, Donald – who goes by the stage name Childish Gambino – said: “Thank you, Mac, for sharing your soul and your beauty with us, especially your love of music. Thank you for sharing that with us.
“You were a really necessary and intelligent light and I’m really glad we met, I’m glad you made music and to all the Mac fans out there, thank you for joining him and being part of his journey.”
Pharrell praised Mac for his “amazing” voice and said he will be sorely missed.
The ‘Happy’ hitmaker said in a clip: “Listening to all of your recent music, you really were using your voice.
“It’s amazing. The world misses you bro, rest easy. Definitely in peace.”

Duff McKagan recalls ‘nerve-wracking’ classic Guns N’ Roses reunion show

OHMYGOSSIP — Duff McKagan says Guns N’ Roses’ first classic line-up reunion show at the Troubadour in 2016 was “nerve-wracking”.
The ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ group’s frontman Axl Rose performed with bassist Duff and guitarist Slash for the first time in 23 years at the West Hollywood venue, before they headlined Coachella festival later that month, and the concert turned into chaos as Axl ended up breaking his foot in six places by the third song after slipping on a monitor and his microphone.
Recalling how it all unfolded, Duff told Planet Rock: “I’ve gotta say, and I can’t really say it enough — just the fact that we got together way before that and communicated and talked would have a lasting effect on me personally.
“Then [we thought], ‘Okay, well, [let’s] try some gigs. Coachella wants us to play. That’s two weekends.
“We can do that. Why don’t we do something on April 1st, April Fools’ Day? Announce it maybe with a question mark.’
“But Axl, third song in, breaks his foot at the Troubadour.
“A nerve-racking thing that show, ’cause it was first time back. And then there was a monitor thing.
“I saw it. He’s pretty athletic too — he can bounce around and do stuff.
“He slipped on that thing, and on his mic, he goes, ‘I think I broke my foot.’
“But he got on and finished the set.
“And I’m, like, ‘Okay. Maybe he sprained it.’
“No, but he broke his foot in six places.
“But we continued on — he wanted to continue on. I think it was a call to arms for him.”
Axl then performed the rest of their shows in his own metal throne and it was then that Duff realised his bandmate had “become a master” of his craft through his rigorous warm-up routine, including going to the gym, which he admitted he hadn’t noticed before then.
He added: “Singing those songs sitting down … I don’t know if anybody out there listening is a singer … I realised at that point, the guy has become a master.
“His warm-up regime — an hour-and-a-half warm-up thing — and being able to sing those songs sitting down.
“And then his warm-down routine.
“He’d become a master. And maybe he always was, and I didn’t notice it before.
“But the amount of work he puts into a gig — it’s gym, warm up for an hour and a half, do a three-and-a-half-hour show, warm down … I’m already in bed. But, yeah, for it to go … We did 159 shows, I think.”
The band’s ‘Not In This Lifetime Tour’ featured the classic line-up, Slash, Duff, Axl, plus Richard Fortus, Frank Ferrer and Dizzy Reed.
The classic line-up are set to enter the studio to work on their first album together in 11 years later this year.
