OHMYGOSSIP — Foo Fighters called on the Reading festival crowd to “sign a petition” to get Oasis back together on Sunday night (25.08.19).
The US rockers headlined the final night of the iconic music extravaganza in England, and used their performance to tell the crowd they are “trying” to reunite warring siblings Liam and Noel Gallagher to reform the Britpop group, who split up in June 2009, after guitarist Noel walked out on the band at their concert in Paris, following a backstage row with his brother and frontman.
Foo Fighters’ drummer Taylor Hawkins had a picture of the pair on his kick drum at Reading and as Dave swapped places with him to perform drums for a cover of Queen and David Bowie’s ‘Under Pressure’, the singer said: “One of these days we’ll get Oasis back.”
Taylor repeated: “One of these days.”
Dave said: “We’re trying.”
The sticksman said: “We’re trying. Let’s sign a petition. Everyone here, okay?”
Dave then asked the crowd: “How many people wanna see Oasis f***ing play a show?”
And after a raucous response, Taylor declared: “It’ll happen.”
Taylor has made no secret of his love of the ‘Wonderwall’ group and previously said he would love to drum for Liam.
The 47-year-old star says the ‘Shockwave’ hitmaker – who is a massive fan of his 2016 solo track ‘Range Rover Bitch’ – hasn’t asked him to play for him yet, but Liam is aware Taylor is keen to write a song with him.
Asked if he’d like to join his touring band – which includes Babyshambles bassist Drew McConnell – on percussion, Taylor said: “Absolutely. He hasn’t asked. He loves [Taylor’s track] ‘Range Rover Bitch’ – that’s so amazing! I’d like to write a song with him. If he likes ‘Range Rover Bitch’ man. I’ve already told him that, he knows. He’s such a character.”
However, there is more possibility in Taylor drumming for Liam than Oasis reuniting.
Noel, 52, has persistently ruled out a reunion with Liam, 46, and recently labelled him a “fat man in an anorak”.
The ‘Live Forever’ hitmaker slammed Liam after he suggested he should be made Prime Minister and make it “the law” for the band to reunite.
Liam tweeted: “Get oasis back together I’d make it law (sic)”
However, he was less than impressed by Liam’s remark and mocked his younger sibling for his appearance and for wearing parkas all the time.
The ‘Black Star Dancing’ singer, who called Liam’s fans who hate his solo work ‘Parka Monkeys’ in the past, said: “If they want to hear old Oasis songs they’re being played by a fat man in an anorak somewhere, you know, with shorts on so they can go and see that.
“I’ve no desire at all to get back involved with Oasis.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Ariana Grande performed in Manchester on Sunday (25.08.19) for the first time since her One Love benefit concert.
The 26-year-old star was left devastated in May 2017 when a terrorist bomb killed 22 people and injured more than 250 others at her concert at Manchester Arena and while she returned two weeks later for One Love Manchester, to help raise funds for those affected, her concert at Pride on Sunday was her first major gig in the city since the tragedy.
Before the concert, Ariana tweeted: “on our way to manchester pride. love u so much. can’t wait to give u all our love. you’re my heart in every way. see u soon (sic).”
And the star admitted that she was “overwhelmed” as she took to the stage.
She told the crowd: “Manchester holds a very special place in my heart. I’m so happy to be with you, so thank you for having me. Sorry, I’m so nervous. I had so much more to say but I’m really very overwhelmed. So thank you.”
Ariana opened her set with ‘No Tears Left To Cry’, the first song she released after the tragedy’, and performed many of her hits including ‘7 Rings,’ ‘One Last Time,’ ‘Break Free,’ ‘Side to Side,’ ‘Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored,’ and ‘Be Alright’ during her 35-minute headlining set.
Last month, Ariana revealed she is still “processing a lot” on tour after crying on stage.
The past two years have been extremely tough for the pop star, as in addition to the Manchester bombing, her former boyfriend Mac Miller tragically passed away last September, aged just 26.
In a lengthy statement to fans, Ariana wrote: “tour is wild. life is wild. i’m grateful for the sea of love i have around me everyday and for the people who come to these shows and give all of us every ounce of energy they’ve got. i’m grateful to work with the best musicians and dancers in the world. i’m grateful for my voice and my team. i’m grateful for this music. i’m grateful for my tour bus driver, Kurt who bought me pickles yesterday because he saw we ran out. i’m grateful for the opportunity to sing to thousands of people every night. it’s a dream come true. no matter how hard it gets or how many feelings come up that are screaming at me to be processed and sorted through one day, i’m grounded by gratitude and promise not to give up on what i’ve started. i feel everything very intensely and have committed to doing this tour during a time in my life when i’m still processing a lot … so sometimes i cry a lot! i thank you for accepting my humanness. i’m not sure what i did to deserve to meet so many loving souls every night / to feel so much love, but i want you to know that it really does carry me through. i feel it and i appreciate it. and all of you so much.

OHMYGOSSIP — Slipknot have announced a 2020 UK and European tour.
Corey Taylor and co knocked Ed Sheeran off the number one spot with their comeback LP ‘We Are Not Your Kind’ – their first number one record since 2001’s ‘Iowa’ – as it dethroned the ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker’s ‘No 6 Collaborations’ last week, and now they have announced a lengthy tour for next year in support of the acclaimed album.
Frontman Corey said: “It feels good to be coming back for an extensive tour of Europe and the UK.
“No matter how many times we come there, it always feels like we can never get enough, nor play ALL the cities we want to.
“But one thing’s for certain: the audiences are ALWAYS some of the best in the world. (sic)”
The extensive run kicks off in Dublin on January 14, and includes a stop at The O2 in London on January 25.
The heavy metal legends will then tour throughout Europe, with the last schedule show currently in Helsinki on February 24.
The band are currently touring their Knotfest festival across the US in support of ‘We Are Not Your Kind’, and percussionist Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan recently revealed while the band are keen to bring the metal extravaganza to the UK, they don’t want to rush and “mess things up”.
He said: “Yeah, absolutely. Right time, right place. It definitely will happen but it has to be the right thing.
“Right now we do a lot of festivals with a lot of great people and you’ve got to find a time and a zone and it’s got to be right. We don’t like to go and mess things up; it’s not about that.”
Shawn explained while the band is still playing a lot in Europe, it doesn’t make sense to tour the festival just yet.
However, he promised it will happen one day, once they can work with their team to figure out the details.
He added: “It’s about being righteous and pure and it being what it is. Like, now, we do a lot of things in Europe, so it’s got to be the right time and the right promoter but it’s all in the works and it’s going to happen. It’ll all happen.”
‘We Are Not Your Kind’ – the group’s sixth record and their first LP since ‘.5: The Gray Chapter’ in 2014 – contained some of Corey’s “darkest writing” he has done in six years.
He explained: “It’s very dark. It’s some of the darkest writing I’ve done in years.
“In the Slipknot index, this album would sit somewhere between [2001 second album] ‘Iowa’ and [2004 third album] ‘Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)’.
“Lyrically, it has the force of ‘Iowa’, but musically it has the heaviness but the experimentation as well. It was very important for us to go somewhere crazy and make something insane.”
Slipknot will be supported Behemoth on the 2020 tour.

OHMYGOSSIP — Dave, IDLES and slowthai are among the performers at the 2019 Hyundai Mercury Prize.
This year’s ceremony on September 19 at Hammersmith’s Eventim Apollo will be hosted by BBC Music’s Lauren Laverne and will also see performances from shortlisted acts Anna Calvi, Cate Le Bon and Cassie Kinoshi’s SEED Ensemble, with more artists set to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
Rapper Dave has been nominated for his acclaimed LP ‘Psychodrama’, rockers IDLES got the nod for ‘Joy as an Act of Resistance’ and slowthai is up for his debut studio album ‘Nothing Great About Britain’.
The list is completed by The 1975 , who have been shortlisted for the prestigious Album of the Year prize for their third studio LP ‘A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships’ and Foals, Little Simz, Fontaines D.C., NAO and Black Midi for their respective albums; ‘Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 1’, ‘Grey Area’, ‘Dogrel’, ‘Saturn’ and ‘Schlagenheim.
Last year’s winning record came from rock group Wolf Alice who picked up the statuette for their second album ‘Visions of a Life’.
Radio 1’s Annie Mac, ‘On My Mind’ hitmaker Jorja Smith, grime superstar Stormzy, Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes and Vice UK editorial director and Guardian contributor Tshepo Mokoena will serve as judges.

OHMYGOSSIP — Foo Fighters may drop in a new song during their live sets at Reading and Leeds this weekend.
The ‘Everlong’ rockers will headline both events on Sunday (25.08.19) and Friday (23.08.19) respectively, and frontman Dave Grohl has said “never say never” when it comes to debuting a new track, whilst he teased one of the songs he’s been working on “would f***ing destroy” the crowd.
Asked about the possibility of giving fans a taste of their upcoming material, Dave told NME: “There’s always something.
“I’m constantly writing but not always seriously, then at some point they become a little more formed. “When I feel like they’re ready, that’s when I bring them to the band.
“We’re not that far along in any kind of official process, but there’s always something.
“It’s happened before where we’ve written a song that afternoon and performed it. Never say never. There is one new song that would f***ing destroy and I would love people to hear it. It’s written for a live performance, so we’ll see. I don’t know.”
The US rockers’ drummer Taylor Hawkins recently confirmed the group “should” drop their 10th studio album by 2020, and revealed Dave has “a lot of demos” he has worked on.
He said: “Well, from what I’ve heard from our fearless leader Dave Grohl, he has a lot of demos that he’s worked on and I think we’ll start, once this tour is over. This little UK-ish run.
“I think not too soon after that we’ll start the process of putting the songs together as a band.
“It’s a long process, we do a lot of demoing and stuff, but I think that we’ll have, I’m hoping, I think we’ll have a new record by next year. We should.”
Taylor also revealed the Foos are likely to play “a lot” of material from their debut self-titled record, which was released in 1995, at Reading and Leeds, and he is keen to play ‘Aurora’ from 1999 record ‘There Is Nothing Left to Lose’.
The sticksman – who joined the band in 1997 – added: “I wouldn’t mind playing ‘Aurora’, and I wouldn’t mind playing anything off the first record. Before I was in the band.
“I think we’ll do a lot of the first record.
“The Reading and Leeds festivals are very important to the band.”
The group recently asked fans what they want to hear them play at the festivals.
The ‘Monkey Wrench’ hitmakers wrote on Twitter: “So what songs do you wanna hear? #RandL19 (sic)”
Foo Fighters released their ninth studio album ‘Concrete and Gold’ in 2017.

OHMYGOSSIP — Miranda Lambert admitted she will “never get over” getting to live out her dreams as she collected the Milestone Award at the 2019 ACM Honors ceremony.
The 35-year-old country pop star was handed the prestigious prize – which recognises artists who have achieved an outstanding achievement – by her hero Keith Urban at the bash at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Wednesday night (21.08.19), who recalled how he knew the ‘Little Red Wagon’ hitmaker would be a big star from when she opened for him on tour back in 2005.
Introducing Miranda – who is the most-award artist in ACM Awards history – to the stage, Keith, 51, said: “She did what I used to do: whoever I was opening for, I used to sit in front of the stage and watch every show and I’d be taking mental notes.
“She was at the front of my show every night we played. And I remember thinking, ‘I know that person really well.'”
The ‘Coming Home’ singer went on to praise Miranda for staying “true” to herself.
He gushed: “You followed your muse wherever you went.
“You made the records you wanted to make.
“You stayed true to yourself, and here you are accepting this award.”
In her speech, Miranda – who releases her seventh studio album ‘Wildcard’ on November 1 – said: “I am so humbled. I’m standing on this Ryman stage in front of one of my heroes.
“I couldn’t believe that we’d get to live this amazing life and follow our dreams and just be part of this awesome family.
“Some days it feels like I’ve been doing it for two days, and some days it feels like 200 years. And I’ll never get over it.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Louis Tomlinson is set to give some of his new songs their live debut at his upcoming show in Madrid, Spain.
The One Direction star is performing at the Coca-Cola Music Experience Festival, which takes place over September 13 and September 14 in the city, and he took to Twitter on Thursday (22.08.19) to tease fans about the new material he’s planning to play.
In a series of tweets, he told his 33.3 million followers: “Madrid is gonna be MASSIVE! Can’t f***ing wait now! … Also gonna be playing some new songs at Madrid! Exciting (sic)”
Just last week, Louis teased that there is “not long now” until he releases new tunes.
Thanking fans for choosing him as the winner of the Choice Single: Male Artist Award at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards for his emotional single, ‘Two Of Us’ – which helped him with the grief of losing his mother Johannah Deakin – he wrote: “Just another thank you to everyone who voted for the award. You’re all incredible!! Not long now….. (sic)”
The ‘Just Hold On’ hitmaker previously revealed he was inspired by Liam Gallagher to bare his soul on the single.
The former Oasis rocker’s debut solo album ‘As You Were’ gave him the strength to work his own raw emotions into his lyrics.
He said: “I don’t like being clever for the sake of being clever. Sometimes it’s cool to read between the lines.
“My lyrical style, naturally, is to just be matter of fact, honest and sometimes blunt. I kind of shied away from writing that song because I didn’t really think I was ready to go through that process yet.
“I got into a session and we ended up getting into it, and it was going perfectly. I really did want to write this song, I was just intimidated at first because it had to be perfect.”
Liam’s introspective LP – which featured marriage breakup songs like ‘For What It’s Worth’ and ‘Paper Crown’ – inspired Louis to try and make a similar kind of impact with his own writing.
He added: “There had to be little things in there that were really thought-provoking for me. I feel like we got the whole message across perfectly.”
The 27-year-old singer tragically lost mum Johannah in 2016, when she passed away aged 43 after losing her battle with leukaemia, and on ‘Two of Us’ he painfully sings about wishing he was the one who died.
He belts out: “You’ll never know how much I miss you, the day that they took you, I wish it was me instead.”
On the chorus, Louis sings: “I will be the best of me, always keep you next to me, I’ll be living one life for the two of us.”
As well as debut single ‘Just Hold On’ and ‘Two Of Us’, Louis has released the tracks ‘Back to You’ with Bebe Rexha and Digital Farm Animals and ‘Miss You’.

OHMYGOSSIP — Missy Elliott has released her first album for 14 years.
The 48-year-old rapper – who hadn’t released a record since 2005’s ‘The Cookbook’ – surprised fans with a last-minute announcement on Thursday night (22.08.19) before dropping ‘Iconology’ at midnight, after a “tremendous year” so far.
Announcing the news on Instagram, she wrote: “This year has been a tremendous year for me…I am humbled and grateful. THANK YOU for allowing me to smell the roses. You, my fans, and God are the reason I am here and have celebrated every milestone with me! So, I have a SURPRISE for you… let’s continue the celebration at midnight tonight…I’m dropping a collection of new songs! Let’s #ThrowItBack to a time when music just felt good and made us want to dance! Sincerely, Dr. Melissa “Missy” Elliott #Iconology (sic)”
The ‘Work It’ hitmaker’s latest song collection has been produced by herself, Timbaland, and Wili Hendrix, and includes new single ‘Throw It Back’.
While Missy hadn’t released an album since 2005 before ‘Iconology’, she has appeared on several songs in the meantime, including Little Mix’s ‘How Ya Doin’?’ in 2012, Ariana Grande tune ‘Borderline’ last year, and she collaborated with Lizzo on ‘Tempo’ earlier this year.
The album announcement comes just days ahead of the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) on August 26th, where the ‘Lose Control’ star will receive a Video Vanguard Award for her music video contributions over the years.
Bruce Gillmer, head of music and music talent at Viacom and co-brand head at MTV International, recently said: “Missy’s impact on the music landscape is indelible.
“Her creative vision across production, performance and song-writing is unmatched.”
Missy will follow in the footsteps of the likes of Rihanna, Madonna, Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, and Kanye West when she collects the prize.
She will also perform at the ceremony for the first time in 16 years.

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed MacFarlane didn’t think Friendly Fires would make another album.
The group are returning with new LP ‘Inflorescent’ following an eight-year break and the 35-year-old frontman admitted his battle with anxiety meant they had to “step away” from the spotlight until he’d overcome his struggles.
He said: “We had to step away from music because the thought of playing live filled me with dread. I wasn’t aware of the good things about being in this band.
“All I could think was that we were about to get booed off stage. And I’d got into the habit of needing a drink to get on stage…
“I didn’t think we’d ever make an album again.
“The shows we’ve played since we’ve come back have been brilliant.”
Ed recalled being gripped by panic attacks while he and bandmates Edd Gibson and Jack Savidge were on the road promoting their 2011 LP ‘Pala’.
He told The Sun newspaper: “Panic attacks started during the second part of the tour. I remember being in Toronto when it kicked in. I was on the tour bus and everything shut down. I didn’t know what was going on. It was weird.
“We did three shows at Brixton Academy (in London). I walked on stage and straight away had a feeling of dread. I was hiding away, thinking, ‘Oh God, I’ve got to do this again’.
“It wasn’t until a year later when I realised what a big thing it was. I burst into tears and said, “We played three sold-out nights at Brixton Academy — that’s f***ing amazing’!”
The ‘Skeleton Boy’ singer turned to a therapist which was a huge help, but it still took him some time to process what had happened to him.
He said: “Therapy helped and I started to see the signs — but it wasn’t a case of getting help and suddenly everything was fine.
“As well as dealing with my anxiety, it took a lot of time to gain perspective of what this is all about and why we are doing this. That took quite a few years.”
Ed’s problems began by his doubts over how long the group could sustain their success after their self-titled debut album received widespread critical acclaim and even a nomination for the 2009 Mercury Prize.
He explained: “The success and attention we had was amazing. They were fun times. But at the back of my mind was the idea that this could be the last time we ever do this — so I’d start indulging and going out getting wasted all the time.
“Then I’d wonder why the next day I didn’t sound so great. Of course it was because I’d been up until 4am.
“This kept happening until I freaked out. The self-doubt came from that and I worried I wasn’t a great performer.
“Then the anxiety got out of control. I’ve always been stupidly over-critical about what I do. I’m a perfectionist, I guess, so I’m never going to be satisfied.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Kim Petras is “thankful” to Taylor Swift for flying the flag for the LGBTQ+ community on ‘You Need To Calm Down’.
The 29-year-old singer recently featured a number of stars from the community – including singer Hayley Kiyoko, YouTuber Hannah Hart, Olympic figure skater Adam Ripper, and ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ star Todrick Hall – in her music video for the song on her new LP ‘Lover’, and has said her decision to do so came as she wanted to be more vocal about her support for the community.
And now transgender star Kim, 26, has applauded the pop superstar for being “brave” enough to use her huge platform to speak out to the large percentage of her fans who are straight.
Kim told the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column: “Taylor Swift’s fan base is so mainstream and so middle America, where it’s not as progressive as some other parts.
“It’s great that she is spreading that message to her fans who maybe don’t have gay friends.
“I am thankful to her for doing that as part of the LGBTQ community.”
Taylor recently admitted she feels she needs to do more for the LGBTQ+ community after a conversation she had which made her realise she hadn’t been “loud and clear” about her position.
She said: “Maybe a year or two ago, Todrick and I are in the car, and he asked me, ‘What would you do if your son was gay?’
“The fact that he had to ask me … shocked me and made me realise that I had not made my position clear enough or loud enough. [I told him] ‘If my son was gay, he’d be gay. I don’t understand the question.’
“If he was thinking that, I can’t imagine what my fans in the LGBTQ community might be thinking. It was kind of devastating to realise that I hadn’t been publicly clear about that.”
The ‘Love Story’ hitmaker admitted she “didn’t realise” she was able to “advocate for a community” she isn’t part of, and said she had refrained from being “loud” about her support for the community because she was afraid of “making a mistake”.
She added: “Rights are being stripped from basically everyone who isn’t a straight white cisgender male. I didn’t realise until recently that I could advocate for a community that I’m not a part of. It’s hard to know how to do that without being so fearful of making a mistake that you just freeze. Because my mistakes are very loud. When I make a mistake, it echoes through the canyons of the world. It’s clickbait, and it’s a part of my life story, and it’s a part of my career arc.”
Although the ‘ME!’ singer is being more vocal about her support now, she has supported from the sidelines for a number of years, having donated to a fund for the Stonewall National Monument, presented a GLAAD Media Award to Ruby Rose, and dedicated a song on her ‘Reputation’ tour to openly gay dancer Love Fuller.
And just last year, she slammed Republican politician Marsha Blackburn – who was running for Senate in Tennessee – for being against marriage equality.
She said at the time: “She believes businesses have a right to refuse service to gay couples. She also believes they should not have the right to marry. These are not my Tennessee values.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Idris Elba and James Corden make an appearance on Taylor Swift’s song ‘London Boy’ on her new LP ‘Lover’.
The 46-year-old actor-and-DJ and ‘The Late Late Show’ host star alongside the US pop superstar in the upcoming live-action adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic stage musical ‘Cats’ – and the pair can now also add making a cameo in a Taylor song to their resumes.
At the beginning of the track, ‘Luther’ star Idris says: “We can go driving in on my scooter just around London”, whilst James replies: “Oh!”
‘London Boy’ is a love letter to the the 29-year-old singer’s British actor boyfriend Joe Alwyn.
Taylor sings: “So I guess/ The rumours are true/ You know I love a London boy.”
Idris and James’ parts were sampled from a 2017 interview Idris did with James on his US show.
‘Thor’ star Idris is asked how he would spend a Valentine’s Day date to raise $750,000 for charity when he suggests to James and guest Jessica Lange that he’d take them out for a ride.
James’ full response is: “Oh I’d love a ride on your scooter. And I don’t even mean that the way it sounds. I’d feel so safe.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Slowthai has “pulled out” of Liam Gallagher’s UK arena tour.
The 24-year-old rapper – whose real name is Tyron Frampton – was due to hit the road with the former Oasis star this November, but Liam has taken to Twitter to let fans know he will no longer be opening for him and admitted he is “gutted”.
Although he didn’t give a reason for the cancellation, the ‘Shockwave’ singer wished the rising star well on his upcoming tour in the US.
Liam tweeted on Friday morning (23.08.19): “Listen up all you boppers out there in the big city all you street people with an ear for the action slowthai has pulled out of the UK Tour Gutted
I still love ya homeboy good luck in the USA LG x (sic)”
And when asked by a fan if a replacement will be announced, Liam replied: “New support will be announced soon.”
The ‘Live Forever’ singer was inundated with suggestions and his former Oasis bandmate, guitarist Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs – who has played with Liam a number of times, most recently at his MTV Unplugged show in Hull – offered to fill the slot.
He tweeted: “I’ll do it.”
The 46-year-old rocker was introduced to slowthai – who has just been shortlisted for the 2019 Hyundai Mercury Prize for his acclaimed debut LP ‘Nothing Great About Britain’ – by his 18-year-old son Gene Gallagher.
The ‘Once’ singer previously heaped praised on the rapper, and even compared his energy to Sex Pistol’s legend Johnny Rotten.
He said: “I’ve seen Slowthai on Soccer AM and he had a bit of a Johnny Rotten vibe about him. I think he’s going to come on tour with us in November. Because it’s alright having a load of guitar bands on there, but it does get a bit…”
The tour – which is in support of Liam’s upcoming second solo album ‘Why Me? Why Not.’ – will kick off at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena on November 11, before hitting up Birmingham, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Newcastle and Sheffield before a hometown gig at Manchester Arena on November 20.
From there, they’ll head to Liverpool, Dublin and Nottingham, with the tour coming to an end with two nights at the O2 in London on November 28 and 29.

OHMYGOSSIP — Emeli Sande wants her new album to be like a “battery pack” for fans to “plug into” whenever they need a lift.
The 32-year-old singer releases ‘Real Life’ on September 13, and she has opened up about how her aim is to make listeners feel “affected for the better” through her music.
In an interview with Britain’s The I newspaper, Emeli said: “I really believe in the power of music.
“And I wanted this album to be a battery pack for the listener: plug it in, and by the end of it you will feel different in some way, affected for the better. I know I do.”
Emeli studied for a medical degree at Glasgow University and is even a qualified neurologist, and although she could have easily pursued a career as a doctor, she was attracted to the “creative freedom” of the music industry.
She said: “I could have been a doctor and affected people that way. I often still think: ‘Could I be more useful somewhere else?’ Because, you know, there is a lot of compromise in working in music. But then I love the creative freedom that singing brings.
“I don’t care about being cool any more. I just want to sing – to get it out there. To be loud.”
The ‘Next to Me’ hitmaker’s uplifting album comes after “doubted” whether she should continue as a musician while battling anxiety and depression after she split from husband Adam Gouraguine in 2013.
Emeli didn’t think she was “depressed” at the time but later “realised” after looking back on that time in her life that she was struggling and had “lost [her] confidence”, after she and the marine biologist broke up within 12 months of marriage.
She said: “I doubted whether I wanted to continue being a musician. I questioned whether people wanted to hear me, because people were saying I was on TV too much. People said I was overexposed, and then I thought, ‘Maybe I don’t have a place in this music industry, and if people don’t want to hear it, what shall I do?’
“I was going through my separation, and really trying to get my head around the industry and where I sat in it.
“It was everything all at once, and I lost my confidence. Even though I was shy as a kid, I was very confident about what I wanted to do, and I worked to try to make it happen.
“The saddest part, when someone’s suffering like that, is you lose your natural personality and the confidence goes.
“People who really knew me, they could have seen but, me? I was thinking: ‘I’m just tired and stressed.’ At the time, I was like, ‘I’m not depressed,’ but looking back this year, and knowing how I am now as a person, I’ve realised.
“I never had therapy, and that would have fast-tracked [things]. It’s scary because it’s like quicksand if you don’t recognise it.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Dave Grohl’s eldest daughter is going to join Foo Fighters on stage at Leeds festival.
Violet, 13 – whom he has with wife Jordyn Blum – recently joined the US rockers on stage for a rendition of their track ‘Dirty Water’ from their 2017 ‘Concrete and Gold’ LP at Sziget in Budapest, Hungary, and Dave has revealed she will be at the festival when they headline tonight (23.08.19), but she will miss sister festival Reading as she has to fly back home for school.
The former Nirvana drummer – who also has five-year-old Ophelia and 10-year-old Harper with his spouse – also revealed that he and his daughter always “order room service and watch horror films” in between shows.
Speaking to Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2, he said: “She is here. She has singing lessons every night. “It’s said because she is going to have to miss Reading because she has to go back to eighth grade.
“She is going to do Leeds with us and then she has to go to school man, she’s a kid.
“It’s weird. She is the best travel buddy.
“We just hang out in the room and order room service and watch horror movies.
“Then we go to the gig, I get ready for the gig, she gets ready for the gig.
“I give her a hug before we go on stage and she comes out and sings.
“Afterwards we get back into the car and go back to the hotel and order room service and watch horror films.
“It’s really cool, but I have to remind myself that, ‘Wait, she’s 13. It’s time to go back to school.”
Meanwhile, Dave recently performed a surprise set with Rick Astley at the intimate Moth Club venue in London.
The pair reunited for another rendition of Rick’s hit song ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’, with the latter on drums instead of vocals.
The 80s pop icon previously joined Foo Fighters at Japan’s Summer Sonic Festival in August 2017, where they played Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ before breaking into ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’.
Dave – who is a major Rick Astley fan – says he has the loudest vocals ever and joked that the “monitors explode” every time he’s performed with him.
He said: “I’ll tell you one thing about him.
“When he gets on a microphone and sings, he sings 10 times louder than anybody I know.
“He has such a strong voice and when he jumps up on stage with us and gets the mic and starts singing, the monitors explode.
“I am not kidding, all the levels go straight to red.
“He’s got a really strong voice.”
Foo Fighters at Reading will be on BBC4 at 10pm on Sunday (25.08.19) night.

OHMYGOSSIP — Taylor Swift has joined forces with Apple to enable fans to create their own remix of ‘You Need To Calm Down’.
To celebrate the release of the US pop superstar’s latest LP, ‘Lover’, Swifties around the world can pop into their nearest Apple store for the ‘Music Lab: Remix Taylor Swift’ event, where they’ll be shown how to remix the hit single using an iPhone and GarageBand.
‘Lover’ has also broken the streaming record for the most pre-adds of a pop album to date on Apple Music.
Customers can register to attend ‘Music Lab: Remix Taylor Swift’ from today (23.08.19).
The record features 18 songs and, Taylor – who is dating British actor Joe Alwyn – previously revealed that it “a love letter to love”.
She said: “I was compiling ideas for a very long time. When I started writing, I couldn’t stop.
“There are so many ways in which this album feels like a new beginning. This album is really a love letter to love, in all of its maddening, passionate, exciting, enchanting, horrific, tragic, wonderful glory.”
The music video for ‘You Need To Calm Down’ featured a number of LGBTQ+ stars – including singer Hayley Kiyoko, YouTuber Hannah Hart, Olympic figure skater Adam Ripper, and ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ star Todrick Hall – and the ‘Shake It Off’ hitmaker recently explained the idea was inspired by her wanting to be more vocal about her support for the community.
She said: “Maybe a year or two ago, Todrick and I are in the car, and he asked me, ‘What would you do if your son was gay?’
“The fact that he had to ask me … shocked me and made me realise that I had not made my position clear enough or loud enough. [I told him] ‘If my son was gay, he’d be gay. I don’t understand the question.’
“If he was thinking that, I can’t imagine what my fans in the LGBTQ community might be thinking. It was kind of devastating to realise that I hadn’t been publicly clear about that.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Robbie Williams has teased new music.
The ‘Let Me Entertain You’ hitmaker took to social media to share a black and white photo of himself back in the studio, leading fans to speculate he might be working on a Christmas album.
Robbie didn’t give the game away, leaving the caption blank but a stamp on the photo says it was taken on May 28, 2019.
Meanwhile, Robbie’s collaborator Guy Chambers recently revealed his friend’s approach to creating new music is often quite spontaneous, and he has to make sure he’s always recording just in case the singer does something “really very strong”.
He said: “[Robbie] gets quite a buzz from a track already in progress. He likes a certain amount of music to … So what we tend to do when he walks through the room is we immediately give him a mic, a handheld mic, and he immediately starts singing, if he likes the track. We record everything he does, because sometimes his first thoughts are really very strong, and I’m sort of playing along at the same time trying to interact with him. I like jamming with people when I’m writing. I like playing at the same time, I like getting involved, and not just watching it. I like … I suppose directing it in a way, and that’s what it’s like with Rob.”
Earlier this year, it was claimed that Robbie wants to make another swing album after being inspired by his Las Vegas residency.
An insider said at the time: “Robbie is a huge fan of swing and believes his performing style of singing and joking with the audience has a direct link with greats like Sinatra and Martin.
“Getting on stage in Vegas, where those guys were kings, to sing those tracks again has given him the impetus to make another swing record. He’s starting to list the songs he wants.”
