OHMYGOSSIP — James Arthur switched up his sound because he got tired of doing ballads.
The 31-year-old singer rose to fame on ‘The X Factor’ in 2012 and is known for slow tempo hits such as ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’, ‘Impossible’ and ‘Naked’, but he has admitted that’s “not [him] at all” as he is more of a hip-hop lover, which is why he teamed up with rapper Ty Dolla $ign on new single ‘Treehouse’.
Asked why he’s changed direction, James told OfficialCharts.com: “Because I couldn’t do another ballad! [laughs] Over the last couple of years, I’ve put out a few slower tempo songs.
“I’ve been in the album-making process and the stuff that was mixed and mastered was that radio friendly [sound].
“It’s nice now that I’ve finished this particular project because there’s so much to choose from.
“I can show a bit more diversity. My hardcore fans know I’m a huge hip-hop fan and that’s where my heart is.”
James insisted that he felt last year’s single ‘Falling Like Stars’ was more of a “risk” than ‘Treehouse’ is and admitted that he doesn’t really care if the song is a hit.
He said: “I feel like it’s a good move at this point, for me.
“I feel like ‘Falling Like The Stars’ was a risk more so than this.
“Maybe the general public will be relieved not to hear me do something like that again.
“I’ve been hard-positioned as this guy who just does ballads – that’s not me at all.
“I enjoy taking on a lot of styles.
“It had to be something like this.
“It might not have any impact at all but I’m sort of at a point where I don’t give a s**t. I’ve got an album coming and it’s sick.”
Meanwhile, James admitted earlier this year he was considering becoming an actor as he feels “overlooked” as a singer.
The ‘Empty Space’ hitmaker feels like his music career is limited after being on ‘The X Factor’, and although he’s proud of what he’s achieved thanks to the show, he wants to explore other ways of expressing his creativity and thinks acting is in his future.
He said: “Sometimes I feel like there’s only so far I can go when you take into consideration where I came from, you know, I can only feel like I’m gonna be overlooked for so long in this field. It’s amazing what I’ve been able to do since ‘The X Factor’ and sometimes I feel like I kind of used to make music for myself and to inspire other people and my competitive ego sometimes gets in the way. Acting is a good, pretending to be other people and exploring another avenue of creativity.”

OHMYGOSSIP — McFly are reuniting for a one-off concert at London’s The O2 arena on November 20.
The ‘Obviously’ hitmakers – comprised of Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd – will play their debut headline show at the London venue and have also announced their plans to release new songs from the ‘McFly: The Lost Songs’ LP, which contains the tracks which were intended for their overdue “shelved” sixth studio LP, which will act as their first new music in nine years.
The band – whose last album was 2010’s ‘Above the Noise’ – admitted that when supergroup McBusted – which featured all of McFly and James Bourne and Matt Willis of rival band Busted – took off they ended up on an “unplanned hiatus” in 2016 and didn’t really know what the future held for the band.
Asked why they broke fans hearts during an Instagram Live announcement on Tuesday (10.09.19), Harry said: “The last time we were functioning as a band wasn’t McFly it was McBusted.
“We had a really amazing time and intense couple of years of touring.
At the end of that it just kind of caught us off guard.
“McFly didn’t have any plans and didn’t know what to do next.
“We found that the McFly calendar was just empty and we found ourselves stumbling into his unplanned hiatus.”
The four-piece also admitted that starting families and their solo commitments didn’t help and admitted their “unbreakable bond” showed some “cracks” after McBusted as their “personal relationship was in the worst place” ever.
Harry explained: “McBusted was incredible, it was the most incredible experience for all six of us, but it was strange for the four of us. The dynamic did change.
“Obviously we like being in a band and it’s a a bit like being married.
“I think with us, we are never good at talking about stuff. Things just build and bubble and cracks start to appear.
“After McBusted our personal relationship was in the worst place they had been in the entire 13 years we’d known each other.
“It’s hard to explain it in a short amount of time…
“We had a bond for one another that we thought was unbreakable. It was a weird time.”
Tom said it was like they went through marriage counselling and the comeback show is like them “renewing their vows”.
He added: “It’s like a marriage and a bit like we had an affair and we didn’t really know how to get through that.
“We had some marriage counselling, saw some other people for a while – but ultimately we didn’t get divorced.
“We knew that McFly is who we are destined to be and The O2 show took us a while to realise that and The O2 show feels like renewing our vows.”
Tom also admitted that “the last three years” there had “been this huge void” in their lives.
And drummer Harry quipped that Busted’s James and Matt “ruined” McFly with McBusted.
Asked about the new music, Harry said: “Good question. basically 2010 was our last studio album, so nearly 10 years since our last studio album, and then in 2011 we started writing our sixth album.
“It was really exciting times and the music felt great and we really felt like the band was having an evolution and there was writing trips, then we did some more and ended up going to Texas and recorded a whole album.
“We talked to the fans about this it was like album six, it wasn’t titled at the time, it was like, ‘Album six is coming, it’s coming.’
“We released the first single off that album, which was ‘Love Is on the Radio’ – which we performed at the Royal Albert Hall – and that’s when Matt and James came out and ruined everything.
“Matt and James came out and McBusted was born and that was an incredible phenomenon and we were like, ‘Wow, this McBusted thing as way bigger than we ever anticipated.
“So we had to just shelve that McFly album and say we will deal with that in a couple of years.
“Then McBusted happened and here are today.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Muse will release their ‘Origin of Muse’ box set on December 6.
The ‘Uprising’ hitmakers – comprised of Matt Bellamy, Chris Wolstenholme, and Dominic Howard – announced earlier this year they would be releasing the mammoth box set, which would bring together songs, demos, photos, videos, and unheard material from their formation through to their first two albums, ‘Showbiz’ and ‘Origin Of Symmetry’.
And now, they’ve revealed the collection will be released on December 6 this year, and have confirmed the exact contents fans will receive if they purchase the special item.
The deluxe collector’s set includes a 48 page booklet written by NME’s Mark Beamont, nine CDs, four coloured vinyl, and an in-depth interview with the band.
A description of the box posted on their website reads: “In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the band’s debut album ‘Showbiz’, Muse have announced the release of the deluxe boxed set ‘Origin of Muse’. This deluxe set will chronicle the band from their early beginnings in Devon, their early demos, first EPs, debut album and breakthrough record ‘Origin of Symmetry’.
“The collection is housed in a 48 page casebound book which sits in a rigid board slipcase with anti-scratch and matte laminated finish with a spot gloss. The book contains an extensive and in-depth interview with the band as they talk about the earliest beginnings, as well as the recording and release of their debut album ‘Showbiz’ through to ‘Origin of Symmetry’. The book also incorporates original posters, setlists, photographs and contact sheets which are inserted and can be pulled out from the book, as well as original artwork and all CD’s and vinyl.”
The number of tracks included in the collection comes to 113, and 40 of those are unreleased.

OHMYGOSSIP — Rihanna’s long-awaited new album will reportedly be released in December.
Several French reporters took to Twitter to on Sunday (08.09.19) the reveal the news was shared to them whilst attending Universal Music France’s Open Session event.
One of the tweets by journalist Steven Bellery is translated as: “The new album of
@Rihanna will be released in December! #OpenSessionUniversal (sic)”
The 31-year-old singer has been keeping fans waiting for her ninth record since the release of ‘Anti’ in 2016.
The last update came in June, when she said was still working on recording the new material and didn’t have a release date in mind yet.
When asked how much longer fans would have to wait, she said: “I wish I knew. I have blocked off a solid period of time for the studio next month.”
The ‘Work’ hitmaker said it “sucks” that she can’t just put her new music out into the world, but insisted she didn’t want to “rush” the process.
She added: “It really does suck that it can’t just come out, because I’m working on a really fun one right now. I’m really happy with a lot of the material we have so far, but I am not going to put it out until it’s complete. It makes no sense to rush it, but I want it out. I’ve gotten to the point where I’m like, “Even if I don’t have the time to shoot videos, I’m going to put an album out.'”
Rihanna also admitted her business empire is partly to blame for the lengthy time between records, as she’s having to divide her energy between her music career, as well as her fashion and beauty lines.
She said: “It’s the reason why an album isn’t being spat out like it used to. I used to be in the studio, only the studio, for three months straight, and an album would come out. Now, it’s like a carousel. I do fashion one day, lingerie the next, beauty the next, then music the next. It’s like having a bunch of kids and you need to take care of them all.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Mahalia says making her debut album was a “make-or-break situation”.
The rising Neo soul star has admitted she poured everything she has into ‘Love and Compromise’ and found herself going on a “a real emotional roller coaster” writing the tracks about heartbreak and former lovers.
The ‘Simmer’ singer also questioned why she was putting herself through the “tough” experience of laying her heart on her sleeve through her music and admitted it “almost broke” her.
She told the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column: “It’s been blood sweat and tears, it’s been a real journey and a real process, ­everything I have has gone into this first record.
“There are so many songs that I never managed to get on the ­album because they were just so hard to write.
“I had so many moments ­during the process where I was like: ‘What have I signed up to? Why am I going through this?’
“It’s a real test within yourself to go through that, particularly if you write your own music, it’s always coming from my heart and that is tough at times.
“It’s a make-or-break situation, a real emotional roller coaster.”
Mahalia also insisted that she no longer feels it’s necessary to tell her ex-lovers when she has penned a song about them.
She said: “I am burning bridges for my music, but this is my music, it’s like well it is worth it.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Proud of Me’ singer recently said she wants to make songs that are suitable for impressionable teenagers as she feels strongly that artists have a responsibility to their audience.
She explained: “I’m trying to put out songs that I’d be happy for my baby cousin to hear.
“I’m not naive to the fact that girls of 15 know a lot more than their parents think they do, but I want to get a good message out to that lot because at their age songs can have a massive impact.
“India Arie had one called ‘I Am Not My Hair,’ which meant so much to me because I lived in a predominantly white area and I was always confused about how my hair looked.
“If you decide to do this, you should accept that you have a duty to your audience.”

OHMYGOSSIP — The Strokes have finished their new album.
Fans have been eagerly-awaiting a release date for their first studio effort since 2013’s ‘Comedown Machine’, and whilst there is still no indication of when the record will arrive, guitarist Nick Valensi has finally revealed they’ve completed the recording process.
In an interview on Q104.3’s Out of the Box radio show, the DJ asked the musician whether it was true that they were currently in the mixing stage with the LP, and he replied: “Who told you that?”
After being told he got the insider information from a “reliable source”, Nick confirmed: “Well, it must be true then.”
However, when asked when fans can expect the record, he replied: “When, I don’t know. If – I would say, a strong likelihood.”
In July 2017, the New York rockers shut down rumours they’d been working on new material.
The ‘You Only Live Once’ hitmakers’ fans couldn’t contain their excitement when band member Albert Hammond Jr.’s father revealed the group had been back in the studio recording their sixth studio album with producer Rick Rubin.
But they then took to Twitter to quash the buzz and insisted a new LP is “years away, if at all”.
Albert wrote on the micro-blogging app: “Sorry everyone we are not in the studio recording
“Forgive Albert Sr he got prematurely excited. A lot of unknowns and nothing worth speaking about at this time.
“We met and played a few music ideas for Rick to feel out a vibe but even a theoretical album plan would be years away, if at all. (sic)”
Albert Hammond Sr. claimed the group – also made up of Julian Casablancas, Nikolai Fraiture and Fabrizio Moretti – were “so happy” recording a follow up to ‘Comedown Machine’.
He said: “They’re making a new album now with a great producer called Rick Rubin. I speak to my son every day and he says that they’re so happy.”
The band treated fans to new single ‘The Adults Are Talking’ in May.

OHMYGOSSIP — Louis Tomlinson felt “comfortable musically” on new single ‘Kill My Mind’.
The One Direction star has admitted that whilst it was a “risk” heading in a different direction to his previous hits, including ‘Just Hold On’ and ‘Back to You’, he’s glad he pushed himself out of his “comfort zone” as he has now found his “home” and is feeling “confident”.
Asked how “gratifying” the reaction to the rock song has been, Louis told Forbes magazine: “I think for anyone who works creatively it’s always important to take risks and get out of your comfort zone a little bit.
“But, for me, with this song I feel like I’m finally really comfortable musically.
“I think I played around with a few different sounds on my previous singles.
“And I think I really found my home now.
“Before I was kind of making music that I think I assumed was the music I was supposed to make as opposed to just following my heart and doing what I love.
“I feel really comfortable and really confident in this song.”
The 27-year-old star added that he’s been really “lucky” because his fan base have responded well to him singing in a way that comes naturally to him.
He added: “It’s taking a risk I suppose with the fan base.
“But I think also where I’m lucky and what my fans have reacted to is they see how comfortable I am and how natural this is for me.
“And I think they feed into that.
The reaction has been absolutely incredible, it has been amazing. I feel great about the whole process.”
Louis also spoke about his biggest inspiration, Liam Gallagher, and how he’s managed to retain his audience from Oasis by keeping people “interested” and not giving a “damn”.
He said: “If I think about my favorite band ever, Oasis, and I think about Liam Gallagher, I think it’s almost as impressive he’s retained such a strong and well-known sound, but still makes it different enough and exciting enough.
“People have been listening to Liam Gallagher for however many years and still they’re interested.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Supergrass “collectively felt the buzz” to get the band back together.
The Britpop legends – comprised of Gaz Coombes, Danny Goffey, Mick Quinn and Rob Coombes – will head out on tour for the first time in a decade in 2020, and they have also announced a career-spanning ‘Best Of’ LP, ‘Supergrass: The Strange Ones 1994 – 2008’, which will be released to mark the 25th anniversary of their seminal chart-topping debut album, ‘I Should Coco’, and 10 years since the band split up.
Drummer Danny said: “Everything aligned for us to make this happen for 2020.
“It was the first time that we collectively felt the buzz to get back in a room together and play the songs. “We’re extremely excited to get out there and bring a bit of Supergrass joy to all our fans … and their extended families.”
The ‘Moving’ rockers reunited on stage at Glastonbury’s Pilton Party in Somerset last week, and they will play a surprise sold-out show at London’s intimate Oslo venue on Monday night (09.09.19).
The UK and European run next year kicks off in Paris on February 4, with the UK leg wrapping with a huge show at London’s Alexandra Palace on March 6.
They will also play two shows in the US in Los Angeles and New York on April 2 and April 8, respectively.
The ‘Best Of’ compilation features all six of their albums in various formats including a picture disc LP and CD, plus bonus CDs of unreleased live material, B-sides, remixes, rarities, studio out-takes, demos, acoustic versions, oddities, new mixes, a deluxe book, posters and button badges, as per a press release.
And there is also over six hours of previously unreleased material and five previously unreleased instant grat tracks.
Among the 22 tracks are their nine top 20 hits, including five top 10s.
‘Supergrass: The Strange Ones 1994 – 2008′ is released on January 24 via BMG and tickets for the tour go on sale next Friday (13.09.19) from 9am.

OHMYGOSSIP — Craig David has announced a 2020 tour to mark the 20th anniversary of ‘Born To Do It’.
The garage king’s chart-topping debut album will celebrate the milestone on August 14 and the ‘Walking Away’ hitmaker is set to embark on the ‘Hold That Thought Tour’ in April, kicking off on April 13 in Cardiff and concluding with a huge show at London’s The O2 arena on April 25.
Referencing the album’s track ‘Time to Party’, Craig said: “I can’t wait to bring my live band and TS5 shows together for this special 2020 Arena Tour and given that it’s 20 years since the release of ‘Born to Do It’, there will be some special surprises in there. “It’s Time To Party!”
The gigs will see the 38-year-old star fuse his live set with TS5, which sees him DJ, MC and sing.
The UK tour comes after the ‘7 Days’ hitmaker revealed he’s moved back to England.
The MOBO-winner has been living in Miami for the past six years, but he put his £4.6 million penthouse up for sale and relocated to London, and admitted it was an “easy decision”.
He said: “It was probably one of the easiest decisions to make, funnily enough.
“I went there and it was cool but when I started seeing the music connecting here, I felt grounded when I came back home.
“For me it was important to set roots here. It was a bit of closure … I don’t need two places.”
Tickets for the tour go on general sale next Friday (13.09.19)

OHMYGOSSIP — Tony Hadley says it’s “impossible” for Spandau Ballet to be the same again without him because there is “only one” him.
The 59-year-old former frontman walked out on his bandmates – Gary Kemp, Martin Kemp, Steve Norman and John Keeble – two years ago because they weren’t keen on him doing solo work in between their group projects.
And now Tony has admitted he knew they would never be able to recreate the same magic with another singer fronting the group, after West End star Ross William Wild joined the ‘Gold’ hitmakers for a few shows last summer, before the band decided it wasn’t working out.
Tony told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I saw clips, and the guy’s got a good voice and did a pretty good job … but it looked a bit odd.
“He wasn’t me.
“That’s impossible, there’s only one me. They don’t make two of me!”
And despite Martin recently admitting the band is over until Tony returns, he has ruled out rejoining the band to mark their 40th anniversary next year.
Tony insisted: “It’s too late.”
Martin had said: “The band stopped playing and we thought it would be really cool if we took out Ross William Wild, he’s a lovely man, lovely singer. We tried that for about six or seven shows through Europe and it was great fun. But what I kind of started to realise what people really want is the five of us together. And I think what we should to do to be fair to that is to put it into a box and let it sit there until that happens.
“And if one day the five of us can talk and get back together it would be wonderful.”
Asked if the ‘Through The Barricades’ hitmakers had decided to end touring, he confirmed: “Until Tony comes back … until the five of us come back. It’s not just Tony, all five of us. Listen, my band is so volatile, one minute we are the best friends then we fall out, it has always been that way.
“I would love it to happen because it is part of me it is part of my soul. But it means all five of us saying yes at the same time.”
The group reunited in 2015 for a world tour and have split up on-and-off over their career.
Tony was the lead vocalist throughout the 80s, but his relationships with his bandmates hadn’t always been plain sailing.
In 1999, Tony, drummer John and sax player Steve were embroiled in a lawsuit over royalties with chief songwriter Gary, but they failed in their efforts.

OHMYGOSSIP — Charli XCX’s collaborations are always “genuine and personal”.
The ‘1999’ hitmaker has teamed up with the likes of Lizzo, HAIM, Christine and The Queens, Diplo and Tove Lo on various tracks and insisted she never views the songs as a “marketing tool” but wants to simply create something “unique”.
She said: “For so long, collaboration has been a marketing tool to gain the benefit of both fan bases.
“My collaborations are genuine and personal. It’s never about bringing them into my world.
“I don’t want them to do something Charli-esque, I want them to do them.
“My collaborators make my sound. They bring their language and their little ad libs. That’s what makes it unique.”
The 27-year-old singer had so many tracks for her upcoming third album ‘Charli’, she had to shelve a song she made with Grimes.
She said of the track: “We’d made a five-minute techno song, with no vocals. We need to figure that out.”
Charli is most proud of her collaboration with Sky Ferreira.
She told Q magazine: “How did I get Sky? I had her number. I basically texted her, not expecting a response.
“And she replied. I was like, ‘Oh my God! F**k! I can’t believe it!’ ”
The ‘Boom Clap’ hitmaker ran into difficulties when she was writing with HAIM.
She recalled: “I’d been to the dentist that day so the whole side of my face was numb.
“I’d already recorded my vocals. I couldn’t really talk. We were co-writing. I was trying to suggest lyrics and melodies but I couldn’t. I was like, ‘Mmm-he-hoo-ha-ho’.
“I had told them I’d been to the dentist, they didn’t think I was having a stroke.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Camila Cabello prefers to release songs in pairs due to the pressure she feels.
The 22-year-old singer – who first found fame as part of Fifth Harmony – recently released ‘Shameless’ and ‘Liar’ as a pair of tracks, and Camila has explained her thinking behind the unusual move.
She said: “I think it’s too much pressure when I haven’t released an album in a year and a half to just put out one song.
“That’s a bit much for me. I don’t like it … I’m not really like a drop-one-single kinda gal.
“I feel like I want to put out more music, more visuals, more stuff because I feel like then it makes you appreciate the one song more because you have context for it.”
In fact, Camila would prefer to release all of her new material at once.
She told radio host Zach Sang: “Honestly even just putting out two kind of drives me crazy. I want to put the whole album out!”
The brunette beauty also revealed that she feels a particularly strong emotional connection to the single ‘Shameless’.
She explained: “I was on such an emotional peak that I was not self-conscious at all.
“I was just like, I don’t even care. I’m like high off of this feeling. I think that’s why it was so easy to write because I wasn’t thinking, I wasn’t trying – I was just feeling.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Frankie Bridge didn’t “enjoy” her pop success because of her struggle with depression.
The former Saturdays singer admitted her battle meant she was never really “fully present” for the high points of her “awesome career” and she wishes she hadn’t spent so much time worrying about the future.
Asked what she’d advise her younger self, she said: “Enjoy the moment. Because of my anxiety and depression, there was no point where I was fully present.
“I’ve achieved so much and had such an awesome career and I did some amazing things at such a young age.
“Part of my worry and perfectionism has definitely helped me get to where I am, but there was so much sadness and fear over when it was all going to end.
“I just look back and think, why didn’t I just enjoy it?”
The 30-year-old beauty – who has sons Parker, five, and Carter, four, with husband Wayne Bridge – wants her boys to live in the moment and stay true to themselves rather than worrying about being “cool”.
She told Britain’s OK! magazine: “I always drum it into my kids that they don’t need to worry about being cool or about having the most friends, those things just don’t matter.
“Carter starts school soon – it really freaks me out that I’ve got kids in school. They’re both really good.”
Frankie has been writing a book about her mental health struggles and while it was “scary” opening up to the world, she found she learned a lot from the experience.
She said: “I just finished writing my book, ‘Open’, which comes out in February.
“It’s all about my journey with mental health. After I had my breakdown, having a mental understanding of what was going on inside my head made me feel less like I was crazy so I wanted to do the same for other people.
“My psychiatrist and therapist are both involved too, adding pieces of advice.
“I’ve learned a lot about myself by writing it. It’s going to be scary when it comes out because I’m baring my soul.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Alessia Cara thinks Shawn Mendes’ heart is “as potent as his ambition”.
The 23-year-old singer has hailed the chart-topping pop star on social media, thanking Shawn for allowing her to have toured with him during his recent global arena tour.
She wrote on Twitter: “There are good people, and then there are people who, if you could see into their core, have a million little particles of benevolence floating around in there. That is @shawnmendes
“His heart is as potent as his ambition and I learned so much from him these last few months, both on and off stage. Tonight we played our 76th and final show of the SM tour (we took this pic show 1!!) and I feel so grateful. (sic)”
Meanwhile, Camila Cabello recently admitted she plans to “fall” for Shawn “like nobody is watching”.
The ‘Senorita’ hitmaker is in a relationship with the ‘If I Can’t Have You’ singer – but she refuses to talk about it as she wants to “protect” their romance.
She said: “I never want to open the door for people to feel like they are involved.
“Like I said, I want it to be mine and [his]. That’s why I’m so tight-lipped about it: because I want to protect it …
“Love is the most sacred, precious thing to me. I want to always feel like my love is between me and that person, and never belonging to anyone else. As much as I love my fans, and as much as I love people, I like to live my life as normally as possible.
“In a relationship, it makes me feel uncomfortable to invite everyone in on that.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Harry Styles was “nervous” playing his new album for Stevie Nicks.
The former One Direction star – who released his self titled debut solo record in 2017 – has become friends with the Fleetwood Mac icon, and he admitted it can be a scary thing letting people hear his new material for the first time.
Speaking in The Face Volume 4 Issue 001, he said: “It’s a double-edged thing. You’re always nervous when you are playing people music for the first time.
“You’ve heard it so much by this point, you forget that people haven’t heard it before. It’s hard to not feel like you’ve done what you’ve set out to do.
“You are happy with something and then someone who you respect so much and look up to is, like: ​’I really like this.’ ”
Stevie has described the highly anticipated follow up LP as “spectacular”, and she revealed it is a world away from the music he made with 1D – and indeed from the material on his first standalone effort.
She said: “It’s not like his last album. It’s not like anything One Direction ever did. It’s pure Harry, as Harry would say. He’s made a very different record and it’s spectacular.”
For Harry, 25, it means a lot getting such kind words from someone he admires, and the ‘Sign of the Times’ hitmaker admitted he is in a place where he’s more confident about the album being released for the rest of the world to hear.
He added: “It feels like a large stamp [of approval]. It’s a big step towards feeling very comfortable with whatever else happens to it.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Louis Tomlinson’s new single is a “statement of intent”.
The ‘Kill My Mind’ singer dropped the rock track as his new single on Thursday (05.09.19) and he has described the song as a callback to the pop landscape when he was growing up listening to the likes of The Killers and Arctic Monkeys.
He’s quoted by The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column as saying: “When I grew up, pop meant Arctic Monkeys, Oasis, The Killers and Amy Winehouse.
“Times change. Currently pop is very urban and street, which is not what I relate to. ‘Kill My Mind’ feels like a statement of intent. Sonically, it’s new for me and writing it was exciting.”
The former One Direction star explained that the inspiration for the new tune came from being young, “naughty” and “trying different things”.
He added: “It’s a loud, busy, rocky song that’s all about having fun. It’s about that experimental phase of your youth where you’re trying different things, some of which aren’t great for you but are definitely fun. It’s a song about being naughty.”
Louis had previously teased fans that there is “not long now” until he releases new tunes.
Thanking fans for choosing him as the winner of the Choice Single: Male Artist Award at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards for his emotional single, ‘Two Of Us’ – which helped him with the grief of losing his mother Johannah Deakin, he wrote: “Just another thank you to everyone who voted for the award. You’re all incredible!! Not long now….. (sic)”
And the ‘Just Hold On’ hitmaker was inspired by Liam Gallagher to bare his soul on the single.
He said: “I don’t like being clever for the sake of being clever. Sometimes it’s cool to read between the lines. My lyrical style, naturally, is to just be matter of fact, honest and sometimes blunt. I kind of shied away from writing that song because I didn’t really think I was ready to go through that process yet. I got into a session and we ended up getting into it, and it was going perfectly. I really did want to write this song, I was just intimidated because it had to be perfect.”
