OHMYGOSSIP — Adam Lambert is ready to be “more authentic” with his music.
The former ‘American Idol’ star – who releases new EP ‘Velvet: Side A’ on Friday (27.09.19) – admitted he wants to focus on “just being” himself instead of chasing the next big hit single.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column, he said: “I wanted to carve out my own lane. I think I’ve found a more authentic spot for myself.
“It feels like I’m not reaching or trying to be anything, I’m just being me. I followed my instincts on this, I didn’t consult a committee in an office about what was good and what wasn’t good and what I should do.
“I think I’ve found a new sense of self-assuredness, which is making me feel proud of the music and really comfortable with it.”
As well as his solo career, next year Adam will be fronting legendary rock band Queen – featuring founding members Brian May and Roger Taylor – for another run of UK shows as part of ‘The Rhapsody Tour’, including a six nights at London’s O2 Arena between June 2 and June 9 and a performance at the Manchester Arena on June 11.
Guitar legend Brian recently hailed Adam as a “true phenomenon” and slammed anyone who has suggested Queen should tour with a Freddie Mercury impersonator.
Alongside a concert snap of Adam before their San Jose concert on in July, Brian wrote on Instagram: “And here is the Modern Marvel without whom, for sure, Queen would not be out here delivering at the top level. ADAM LAMBERT is only now beginning to be recognised by the greater public as the true phenomenon that he is.
“Gifted with a voice in a billion, for himself he is a passionate and unyielding perfectionist. Gifted to us, he is the reason that we are still alive as a functioning rock band. And still able to take on new challenges.
“Plus … he’s nice. That’s a big deal when you’re a touring family. Freddie would approve, big time. (sic)”
Responding to the “few people” who have said they’d be better performing with a tribute frontman in the place of the late great Freddie – who died 1991 aged 45 due to complications from AIDS – the ‘We Will Rock You’ hitmaker continued: “Also, and I will say this only once, for the benefit of just a few people who haven’t stopped to think clearly. Just imagine how awful it would have been for Roger and myself to tour with a Freddie impersonator. Anyone who suggests such a thing doesn’t belong here.

OHMYGOSSIP — Ellie Goulding says it was “fun and enlightening” to sing in Italian on a love song with Andrea Bocelli.
The ‘Love Me Like You Do’ hitmaker – who tied the knot with husband Caspar Jopling in a fairytale wedding in August – has recorded the classical duet ‘Return To Love’ with the world-class tenor for the extended version of his number one album ‘Si’.
Ellie – who follows in the footsteps of the likes of Ed Sheeran and Dua Lipa by duetting with Andrea – said: “It was a huge honour that the legendary Andrea Bocelli wanted me to feature on this song with him.
“I have always had an affinity with classical music and I’m a sucker for a love song.
“It was fun and enlightening to sing in Italian – a real joy to record.”
Andrea added: “Ellie Goulding is the perfect singer for this track. “She has a beautiful voice which I loved right away.”
As well as Ellie, Hollywood actress Jennifer Garner – who is known for her starring roles in movies including ’13 Going On 30′ and ‘Daredevil’ – has made her debut in music on the track ‘Dormi Dormi Lullaby’.
Andrea will play a string of shows next month in the UK, kicking off at Birmingham’s Genting Arena on October 19, and concluding at Manchester Arena on October 17.
‘Si Forever: The Diamond Edition’ is released on November 8 via Sugar Music and Decca Records, whilst ‘Return To Love’ will be available to stream and download on all major platforms on October 3.

OHMYGOSSIP — Niall Horan’s new single ‘Nice To Meet Ya’ will be released next week.
The former One Direction star shared a short preview of the soulful-sounding number on social media on Thursday night (26.09.19), and revealed his first new music since 2017’s ‘Flicker’ will arrive on October 4.
Alongside the artwork and a seven-second clip of the single, Niall wrote on Instagram and Twitter: “After nearly 2 years since ‘Flicker’ i’m ready to go. My new single #NiceToMeetYa is out October 4th. Pre-save now, link in bio. (sic)”
The Irish star penned the track with regular co-writer Ruth-Anne Cunningham and the pair penned the track in just one day.
She recently revealed: “For the second album, I got less time with him because I’d been touring and it was hard to get in together. But we got two days. We did the single on the first day and then we did another song on the second day. ‘Nice To Meet Ya’, it gives me 2000s rock, Kasabian/Arctic Monkeys vibes, which I think will be very popular.
“To now have the single, I am just so happy because there is something magic… I truly believe there is something magic when we write together. It was a really special day.”
Niall and Ruth-Anne first met after she wrote One Direction’s ‘Where Do Broken Hearts Go’ from their ‘Four’ album, and they later worked together on ‘Made In The A.M.’ for the band.
Niall later reached out to Ruth-Anne when he went solo and asked her to work on his debut record (‘Flicker’).
She explained: “He had heard about me through Julian [Bunetta] and then we were writing for ‘Made in the A.M.’ and it was meant to be me, Louis, Niall and [songwriter] Matt Rad. Louis cancelled on the day we arrived but Niall was there so we thought let’s just write something.
“We wrote maybe two or three songs that day. We just got on like a house on fire. Obviously we’re both Irish and we love a lot of the same Irish music like Damien Rice and The Frames. Then when he was writing for his solo album, he texted me. He said he wanted to like Fleetwood Mac, Eagles Damien Rice… when do you ever get to do that in pop music?! I was like ‘SICK!’ The songs were just popping out of us.”
Ruth-Anne co-wrote ‘Seeing Blind’, ‘Fire Away’ and ‘You and Me’ for ‘Flicker’, along with Niall’s standout single ‘Slow Hands’.

OHMYGOSSIP — Scouting For Girls’ Roy Stride says he would still be working at Carphone Warehouse if it wasn’t for the success of ‘She’s So Lovely’.
The British pop rock group’s hit single stayed in the UK top 10 for six consecutive weeks in 2007, and the frontman says without it doing so well and standing the test of time, he’d still need his old job at the phone store to keep him afloat.
He told the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column: “She’s So Lovely is a magic song, I think if I didn’t have that song I’d be working back in Carphone Warehouse!
“Every band that has a long ­career has one of those songs, and that’s ours.
“I see these people at sixth form parties, these kids who are like 18, were five when the song came out, and they’re going crazy at a party when that song comes on!”
The 41-year-old star – whose band’s album and singles sales exceed over 15 million – says when they play the song live they always leave it to the end of their set and they perform it just how they did when it first came out.
He said: “We just don’t mess with it, we always play it as it is and we always play it at the end of the show.”
Scouting For Girls have just released their first album in four years, ‘The Trouble with Boys’, which is about staying young forever, and the ‘Elvis Ain’t Dead’ singer says he can’t believe he gets paid to have “fun” and compared playing festivals to going to a “massive adult theme park”.
Roy said: “Being in a band and signed to a record label you have people doing all this s**t for you, they put your stuff on stage, have loads of beer in the dressing room, and you even get a buggy from the dressing room to the stage!
“It’s like this massive adult theme park which I’m being paid to be at! “I always have a fridge full of beer and get to watch these amazing acts.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Fender wants people to stop comparing him to Bruce Springsteen and Oasis.
The ‘Play God’ hitmaker has been touted as the next Springsteen and his songs have drawn similarities to the ‘Wonderwall’ hitmakers, but he thinks it’s silly because the former is “one of the greatest singer-songwriters of all time” and Oasis are irreplaceable.
Sam told The Belfast Telegraph newspaper: “I’m not the next Bruce Springsteen.
“Bruce Springsteen has done 19 studio albums. He’s a genius.
“He’s one of the greatest singer-songwriters of all time.
“I’ve not even released my debut album and people are already comparing us to him.”
And on being compared to the Britpop group, he added: “There is no next Oasis. There was Oasis.”
The ‘Poundshop Kardashians’ singer says comparisons are frustrating.
He added: “The whole comparison thing just makes me … People always go, ‘Oh, what does he sound like?’ and stuff like that. Just f***ing listen to it.”
The 23-year-old star won the BRITs Critics’ Choice Award earlier this year, he supported his idol Bob Dylan at Hyde Park in July, and to top it off, his debut album ‘Hypersonic Missiles’ recently reached number one in the UK.
But Sam, who battles with anxiety, insists he’s taking it all in his stride and is trying to focus on enjoying himself.
He told the publication: “I am learning ways to cope.
“I think the best way to look at it is, ‘Yes, it’s pressure, but for Christ’s sake, it’s amazing’. You never know when this thing is going to end.”
Although he doesn’t want to be compared to Springsteen, The Boss did inspire his album’s title track.
Sam explained previously: “I’ve been f***ing weaned on him.
“My brother bought us ‘Born To Run’ when I was 14 or 15 and it just f***ing changed my world.
“At first I was a bit confused by this slightly over-the-top production, but the words were just so good.
“Lyrically, ‘Born To Run’ is one of the best albums out there and it changed my world when I heard it.
“I’d never heard rock music that sounded that fresh, even though that record was released in 1975.
“I’ve also always wanted to do that Phil Spector production and add a saxophone to it.
“I’d say it’s a nod to Bruce Springsteen, although my publisher says it’s a headbutt.”

OHMYGOSSIP — George Benson is the first headliner announced for Hampton Court Palace Festival in 2020.
The US jazz legend will kick off a string of UK dates with a performance as part of the annual summer concert series at Hampton Court on June 19, when he will take to the stage at the 3,000 capacity Base Court – one of the Tudor courtyards in the stunning grounds of the historical landmark.
Fans can expect to hear all of Benson’s greatest hits, which include ‘Give Me The Night’, ‘Lady Love Me (One More Time)’, ‘Turn Your Love Around’, ‘Inside Love’ and ‘Never Give Up On A Good Thing’.
After playing shows in Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds, Cardiff, Bournemouth, Birmingham and Southend, the 76-year-old icon will wrap his UK run with a performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall on July 2.
The 10-time Grammy-winner released his latest album, ‘Walking To New Orleans’, in April, his first recording since ‘Inspiration: A Tribute to Nat King Cole’, in 2013.
This year’s Hampton Court Palace Festival saw music royalty, including Kylie Minogue, Michael Ball & Alfie Boe, Nile Rodgers & Chic, The Jacksons and Tears For Fears, entertain the crowds.

OHMYGOSSIP — Cardi B is planning to launch her own music festival.
The 26-year-old rapper is said to be hoping to attract the likes of Stormzy to play at her well-backed spectacle in 2020.
A source said: “Cardi has been working on her own festival for months and has backing from investors.”
As well as getting in touch with Stormzy about potentially performing, the ‘Bodak Yellow’ hitmaker is also said to have contacted British act Jorja Smith about taking to the stage at her festival.
The source added to The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “She is actively seeking British acts because she knows how huge they could be if they break the US.”
Earlier this summer, Cardi was forced to pull out of Parklife Festival at Manchester’s Heaton Park, north west England, just days before the event.
A tweet on the official Parklife Twitter account read: “We have just been notified that Cardi B will be unable to perform this weekend.
“We are currently working on an updated schedule, please see below for the full statement.”
The statement read: “As some of you will have seen, Cardi B was forced to cancel some performances in May. The Parklife team have just been notified that Cardi now also needs to pull out of Parklife this weekend. As such there will be some changes to the previously advertised lineup, stage splits, and times. We are working on this currently.”
It came just a month after Cardi postponed several shows to recover from plastic surgery.
In May, Cardi’s representative Patientce Foster revealed the rapper was under “strict doctor’s orders” to postpone her remaining shows that month.
She said: “Cardi was overzealous in getting back to work; she didn’t take the time necessary to fully recover from her surgery. Her strenuous schedule has taken a toll on her body and she has been given strict doctor’s orders to pull out of the rest of her performances in May.
“She’s very disappointed as she hates to let her fans down. She reassures them that she will see them in September.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Paul McCartney is still “passionate” about writing songs.
The 77-year-old Beatles legend enjoys working on new music just as much as he ever did and if his professional career was to come to an end, he’d still continue as a “hobby”.
Speaking to Gary Barlow for a ‘We Write The Songs’ interview on the pop-up Radio 2 Beatles DAB station, he said: “It’s the passion. It’s something you love to do. I always say if they stopped me now, I’d just do it as a hobby tomorrow, so it’s just something you love to do.”
Paul previously teamed up with Kanye West on ‘FourFiveSeconds’ and ‘Only One’ and found working with the rapper a more “cerebral”
experience than his partnership with the late John Lennon.
He said: “I worked with him and it was a very interesting way of working. It wasn’t two guitars like me and John used to be, this was more cerebral.
“It was just talking and thinking and me plonking away a little bit. And you record everything and he takes it away and kind of does stuff with itand just a month or so later, he sent ba ck this record and it was Rihanna singing and so I had to ring up and sort of say ‘Am I on this? Did I have anything to do with it?’ I couldn’t tell!
“He said, ‘Yeah, what it is is, that’s you on guitar, so it’s all the chords and the musical idea’s yours, but we’ve sped it up to suit Rihanna’s key, musical key, so I did it in A so now it was up in D’.
“You can imagine the fun of that. So when you’re saying to me why do I do it, how do I do it, because it’s all that kind of fun. And if someone like Kanye’s going to ask me, then I’m going to show up.”
Despite their global fame, Paul and Kanye made a pact to keep their studio sessions secret if they weren’t fruitful.
He admitted: “What happened was I got word that Kanye wanted to work with me. So I just thought, ‘Well, you know, I love his stuff so, here goes nothing.’
“So we did some secret sessions and we both said if it doesn’t work out we just won’t tell anyone!

OHMYGOSSIP — Celine Dion has postponed four Montreal shows due to a “throat virus”.
The ‘Because You Loved Me’ hitmaker was due to play The Bell Centre in the Canadian city on September 26, 27, 30 and October 1, but the shows have been pushed back to November 18, 19, 21, whilst the October 1 concert will now take place on November 22.
According to promoter Evenko, who released a statement on Twitter, the 51-year-old superstar is under strict doctor’s orders to rest in so she is able to perform her shows at the venue on October 4 and October 5.
Tickets for the postponed gigs will be automatically accepted for the new dates.
Celine’s ‘Courage World Tour’ kicked off on September 18 at the Videotron Centre in Quebec City.
The ‘My Heart Will Go On’ hitmaker recently admitted she would have a “breakdown” if she looked at her all the dates on the global run.
Celine – who has son René-Charles, 18, and eight-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy with her late husband René Angélil – confessed that the shows “would not happen” if she acknowledged how long it would take as she fears she’d miss her children too much.
She said: “When I go on a tour you cannot look at all the dates because you’ll have a breakdown and the tour will not happen. My heart won’t go on. ”
Meanwhile, the singer recently teased the album ‘Courage’ – which is released on November 15 – is “very fun” and “very different” to her other work and she feels she has “opened her wings” on the new record.
She said: “The album sounds very fun, very different and I did try new things. It’s still me but I have opened my wings to embrace new writers and producers.
“Just to be open to different sounds. I’m not doing like an AC DC heavy metal, but there’s different flavours.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Ginger Baker is “critically ill” in hospital.
The 80-year-old Cream drummer underwent open-heart surgery in 2016, and he then suffered a bad fall which led to other medical complications, and now his family has announced he’s been hospitalised for unknown reasons at this time.
A message posted on the legendary rocker’s Twitter page on Wednesday night (25.09.19) reads: “The Baker family are sad to announce that Ginger is critically ill in hospital. Please keep him in your prayers tonight.”
Three years ago, the sticksman’s daughter Leda – whose mother is Liz Finch – revealed he had an operation to improve his health and was on the “road to recovery”.
She said at the time: “Ginger is on the road to recovery. After open heart surgery and a bad fall he is miraculously recovering well.
“He called the day after his surgery to say he was OK, albeit it was a rather disorientated and unintelligible conversation but he was at least awake and aware.
“The fall has resulted in swollen legs and feet which he is seeing a doctor about in the next day or so.”
However, Leda – who has an older sister Ginette and younger brother Kofi – admitted she didn’t think her dad will be in a position to perform live again with his band Air Force 3 or anyone else for some time, if ever again.
She added: “Although he is recovering any performance in the near future seems over ambitious.”
Ahead of his operation, Ginger opened up on what his options were and his hopes to play drums again on stage.
He said: “There are two options for surgery. Depending on how strong my old lungs are, they may do both. The doctor says he’s going to get me playing again.”
Ginger founded legendary rock band Cream in 1966 with late bass player Jack Bruce and guitarist Eric Clapton and their rock/blues sound resulted in songs such as ‘Sunshine of Your Love’, ‘I Feel Free’ and ‘Crossroads’.
The British band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Paul McCartney doesn’t own a single Beatles record.
The ‘Let It Be’ hitmaker has admitted that he didn’t think about collecting his band’s back catalogue because he was “too busy living it”.
He told the latest issue of Radio Times magazine: “I often think I should have kept a copy of everything we put out but I didn’t. Too busy living it.”
The 77-year-old music icon also admitted that he didn’t expect to still be alive, let alone still touring and making music.
Asked what a 27-year-old Macca would make of him still living it up on stage and recording solo music , he laughed: “He would be loving the fact that he was still here.
“Like a lot of people, I think I thought I was going to die at 28.”
The white Volkswagen Beatle car on the cover of the Liverpool band’s iconic ‘Abbey Road’ album – which celebrates its 50th anniversary on Thursday (26.09.19) – had the number plate “28IF”, which was one of the “clues” conspiracy theorists tried to use as “evidence” that McCartney had “died” and was replaced by a lookalike.
Referring to the theory, he continued: “Which is nothing to do with the car number plate on the cover.
“To hear that I’d lasted till 77 would have been great news.”
McCartney’s younger self would also be surprised that he’s still recording music with one of his Beatles bandmates.
The only two surviving members of the band, Macca and drummer Sir Ringo Starr, recently reunited to a record a cover of late frontman John Lennon’s song.
Starr’s 20th solo album ‘What’s My Name’ sees him collaborate with the ‘Hey Jude’ hitmaker on a Lennon track called ‘Grow Old With Me’, and the inspiration came after a conversation with record producer Jack Douglas.
Starr revealed: “Jack asked if I ever heard The Bermuda Tapes, John’s demos from that time…And I had never heard all this. The idea that John was talking about me in that time before he died, well, I’m an emotional person. And I just loved this song.
“I sang it the best that I could. I do well up when I think of John this deeply. And I’ve done my best. We’ve done our best.
“The other good thing is that I really wanted Paul to play on it, and he said yes. Paul came over and he played bass and sings a little bit on this with me. So John’s on it in a way. I’m on it and Paul’s on it.
“It’s not a publicity stunt. This is just what I wanted. And the strings that Jack arranged for this track, if you really listen, they do one line from ‘Here Comes The Sun’ [written by George Harrison]. So in a way, it’s the four of us.”
Lennon was assassinated in New York City in 1980 at the age of 40, and the ‘Yesterday’ hitmakers’ lead guitarist George Harrison died of lung cancer at the age of 58 in 2001.

OHMYGOSSIP — Aston Merrygold and Oritse Williams have been collaborating on new music together.
The former JLS bandmates are “always” working on something together, despite the band’s split in 2013, and Aston has teased that Oritse is making some of “the best music” he’s ever done.
He told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “He’s back in music, he’s been writing, he’s been spilling his soul.
“He’s probably been writing some of the best music he’s done and he’s ready to get back into the commercial industry and show that.”
Asked if he could feature on any of his bandmate’s songs, he replied: “We’re always collaborating, all of us.”
A collaboration between the pair might surface at some point, but Aston previously ruled out a reunion of the ‘Beat Again’ band.
Although the chart-topping four-piece – who shot to fame when they came second on ‘The X Factor’ in 2008 – might not get back together, the 31-year-old star insisted he is still great friends with ex-bandmates J.B. Gill, Marvin Humes and Oritse.
However, he doesn’t think they could recapture what they once had.
Asked if they will get back together, he perviously said: “Personally I’m not sure how we would make it like it was.
“Trying to recreate that moment again would be hard.
“We are still a group – we just don’t make music together any more.”
And Aston says they have no plans to appear on the upcoming ‘X Factor: All Stars’ series as the “timing” is not right.
He said: “It’s not for us. For us it’s a bit more than that – even though we came from the show and it’s great and we’ll always be thankful – for us to come back it needs to be for the fans.
“They’re the ones that sustained that career for however long. Timing is everything.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Charli XCX says having her music leaked online “really affected” her.
The ‘Gone’ hitmaker was forced to rewrite her entire third studio album – the follow-up to 2014’s ‘Sucker’ – after the songs started to spread around the web and be shared among her fans, and she has admitted that it was “really sad” and might be why she now drops new tunes so frequently now.
In an interview with GQ Hype, Charli said: “You say a few songs here and there, it was all my songs ever made.”
However, the 27-year-old singer can understand why her fans would do it – but it made her feel like she had no ownership over her own music.
She continued: “They feel they just want the music and that leaking it is helping me.
“I didn’t really talk about it because I didn’t want to encourage more of it, but you know, having your work stolen is really sad.
“It made me feel like I didn’t own it anymore.”
Asked if that is why she drops singles so quickly now, the ‘Fancy’ star replied: “Maybe subconsciously. I think it really affected me quite a lot.”
Her music still continues to leak, with unreleased track ‘Come To My Party’ making its way online recently.
When her third album leaked, Charli insisted it hadn’t set her back too much, as she is such a speedy songwriter.
She said: “My email got hacked and people leaked most of it, so I think I’m just going to start again.
“But that’s fun for me, anyway I write fast so I’m not really worried about anything.”
The British songwriter finally got to release her third album, ‘Charli’ – which features collaborations with the likes Lizzo (‘Blame It On Your Love’, Christine and the Queens (‘Gone’), Haim (‘Warm’) and two with Troye Sivan (‘1999’ and ‘2099’) – this month.
And she had so many tracks, she had to shelve a song she made with Grimes.
She said of the track: “We’d made a five-minute techno song, with no vocals. We need to figure that out.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Matty Healy wants to produce an acoustic album for Taylor Swift.
The 1975 frontman would love to see the ‘You Need To Calm Down’ hitmaker return to her country roots and record a stripped-back record – but he doesn’t think it’s going to happen anytime soon.
Speaking on Neil Griffiths’ podcast The Green Room, the ‘Love Me’ hitmaker said: “Taylor Swift doing an acoustic record?
“I can’t think of a record that would sell more than that.
“Like, Taylor Swift’s intimate return to country.
“Of course, you’d wanna produce that!
“She’s [probably] gonna sit on that idea, but Taylor, if you ever want someone to help you set up the mics for your acoustic record, just so you know, I’m there.”
The 30-year-old star also took to Twitter on Tuesday (24.09.19) to pitch the idea of Taylor covering songs by Joni Mitchell and Bruce Springsteen.
He wrote: “Taylor Swift. With an acoustic guitar. Doing her ‘Nebraska’. Doing her ‘Blue’. Kill me (sic)”
Taylor was rumoured to be the subject of The 1975’s 2016 song ‘She’s American’ after Matty’s flirtation with the ‘Shake It Off’ hitmaker.
The ‘Chocolate’ hitmaker thought it was “cool” the gossip generated attention around the world, but only because he was fascinated by how interested other people are in the US superstar.
He said: “I don’t do anything else, so it doesn’t leave a lot of room for me going out or sh***ing someone.
“So the one time I did have a flirtation with a girl it ends up going everywhere… I mean, I got on E! News and people were like, ‘Who’s Matt Healy?’ so that was cool.
“But I didn’t make a big deal out of it myself. It’s not really anything to talk about, because if she wasn’t Taylor Swift we wouldn’t be talking about her. She wasn’t a big impact on my life.
“It’s just interesting to me how interested the world is about Taylor Swift.”
Matty also admitted that he isn’t “very good” at relationships and would have struggled to commit to Taylor because it would have been tough to live in her shadow.
He said: “I feel like I’m not very good at relationships.
“And the reason I mention that is because if I had [properly] gone out with Taylor Swift, I would’ve been, ‘F***ing hell, I am not being Taylor Swift’s boyfriend.’ You know, ‘F**k. That.’ That’s also a man thing, a de-masculinating, emasculating thing.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Charli XCX didn’t feel “confident enough” to release another album after ‘Sucker’.
The ‘1999’ hitmaker has admitted that it wasn’t until she released her party mixtapes ‘Pop 2’ and ‘Angel’ in 2017, which felt like her “ultimate music”, that she felt like she was able to put out her third studio effort, which became ‘Charli’.
She admitted to Rolling Stone: “Prior to ‘Pop 2’ and ‘Angel’, I don’t think I felt confident enough to release another album.
“Even though I’m very proud of ‘Sucker’, I knew I was making the ultimate music I wanted to hear when I was partying. Through [the mixtapes], I found that.”
The 27-year-old star also opened up about the pressures placed on artists today to be the “funniest” and “provocative” whilst also trying to “not upset anyone”.
On her insecurities, she added: “Sometimes I think I’m better than every single one of you and other times I feel like I’m literally nothing.
“There’s so much pressure in 2019 to be the funniest and know your brand and be the works and not upset anyone but also be provocative.”
‘Charli’ turned out to be her “most honest” record to date because she started saying exactly what is on her mind.
The ‘Gone’ hitmaker explained recently: “[The record is] my most personal album yet. It’s [a record] where I talk a lot more about my insecurities and my thoughts that go on in my head every day about the position I’m in as a person and as an artist.”
And whilst Charli originally planned to put out a third mixtape, she felt as though ‘Charli’ was more like a full-length project.
She added: “With ‘Pop 2’, I felt the solidifying of my fan base and was more connected to my fans than ever before. I thought that they might want an album from me. So I didn’t want to deprive them of it. I just felt confident enough to put one out.”
But the ‘Flash Pose’ singer admits there isn’t much difference between an album and a mixtape, except for the “pressure” that comes with releasing a full album.
She said: “When you’re signed to a major label and you want to release an album, there’s a lot of pressure that’s attached with the word ‘album’ including sales, streams, expectations, and goals. I just wanted to put stuff out without this expectation attached to it.”
The ‘Boom Clap’ hitmaker no longer “cares” about commercial success, and would rather just have the “creative freedom” to do her own thing.
She said: “I used to think of [commercial success] all the time once I had the taste of what a big successful hit could feel like, but I feel like there’s a lot of creative freedom in not caring.”

The ‘Someone You Loved’ hitmaker had his profile on the dating app put up on massive billboards to promote the giveaway, which offers two lucky people the chance to win flights to New York for his show across the pond or one of the dates on his UK tour next year.
Lewis joked that using Tinder Gold – the premium version of the app – is his “only lifeline” left to find a partner, otherwise he will be living with his mum forever.
He quipped: “I’m very excited to have teamed up with the people at Tinder to give two lucky people the chance to fly out to New York to meet your favourite big lovely handsome celebrity (me).
“I’m yet to find love and Tinder Gold is the only lifeline I have left before I’m resigned to a lifetime living at home with my mother.”
The Scottish star – whose jokes have inspired an endless stream of memes online – perviously revealed some of the key parts of his bio, which he quipped is “f***ing tremendous”, including the fact he was a “BRITs Critics’ Choice Awards nominee”.
He laughed: “My Tinder bio is f***ing tremendous … it’s ‘BRITs Critics’ Choice nominee’.
“I have one dog and I’m very good at fighting, so those are two key things people look for in a potential mate.
“He’s 17 years old. He’s blind in one eye. But I love him.”
The 22-year-old star also previously admitted he’s not had much luck on Tinder.
He said: “It’s a barren experience for me, man. I’m not very successful at all.”
However, it might be the fact that he doesn’t reply to people who recognise him that he hasn’t found a lover yet.
He said: “Sometimes people recognise me but I just don’t reply to those people.
“If someone sends me a song lyric, I’m not going to go ‘Cool man’. My Tinder bio now just says I have one dog and I’m very good at fighting. I think that’s all you need to know in a potential partner.”
