Morrissey’s concert in Dallas cut short after stage invasion by fans

OHMYGOSSIP — Morrissey’s Dallas concert had to be cut short after fans invaded the stage.
The former Smiths frontman was giving an encore performance of ‘First of the Gang to Die’ at the Music Hall at Fair Park show on Saturday (02.11.24) when the stage was invaded by fans attempting to get close to him – a regular occurrence at his gigs.
Two audience members managed to hug and shake hands with Morrissey but the stage was soon overrun by more fans – leaving security desperately trying to clear the stage as the ‘Everyday Is Like Sunday’ artist was jostled between spectators and venue personnel.
Morrissey, 65, was eventually ushered off the stage and one security guard was seen limping with a leg injury as he attempted to remove a fan. The sudden end to the concert was booed by the spectators as proceedings came to a close a song or two earlier than scheduled.
George Allen, the host of a Morrissey podcast, told the Manchester Evening News of the incident: “Stage invasions are very common at Morrissey gigs but this one looked particularly messy.
“It’s not clear if it was Morrissey’s choice to leave the stage or if he was directed by the crew but the fans did seem to go a bit far.
“Getting on stage for a handshake and a hug is fine but considering one of the crew was injured this felt like too much. Some fans have described it as disrespectful.”
The ‘Suedehead’ singer is yet to comment on the matter.
Meanwhile, Morrissey recently claimed that his former Smiths bandmate Johnny Marr “ignored” a “lucrative” offer for the ‘This Charming Man’ band to reform in 2025 – after siblings Noel and Liam Gallagher put their differences aside to reunite fellow Manchester music legends Oasis.
He wrote on his website: “In June 2024 AEG Entertainment Group made a lucrative offer to both Morrissey and Marr to tour worldwide as ‘The Smiths’ throughout 2025.
“Morrissey said Yes to the offer; Marr ignored the offer. Morrissey undertakes a largely sold out tour of the USA in November. Marr continues to tour as a special guest to New Order.”

‘I will keep going until I drop’: Fatboy Slim plans to carry on performing

OHMYGOSSIP — Fatboy Slim has no intention of retiring.
The 61-year-old DJ is set to play gigs in Australia, Indonesia, Mexico and Las Vegas in the coming months and explained that he still has the same burning passion for the turntables that he possessed as a teenager.
Fatboy – whose real name is Norman Cook – told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “I will keep going until I drop.
“I genuinely love my job so much. I have still got a passion for it – I am still driven to DJ like when I started at 15.
“I have fallen out of love making records but I love the DJ side of it. Slowing down and quitting is not an option.
“I glimpsed at retirement and it was the abyss of golf and endless lunches.”
The ‘Right Here, Right Now’ hitmaker credits his ex-wife – the BBC Radio 2 presenter Zoe Ball – for keeping him grounded when he was propelled to stardom during the 1990s as she was used to the spotlight herself through her broadcasting work.
Fatboy said: “I was having too much fun to think about the next day or the next thing. It was like being on top of a big wave and you had to stay on.
“Zoe helped me through it as she knew that level of fame before and she is a very kind, thoughtful person and she just had this way of checking my ego.
“She brought me through the trickier bits. We could talk about it as we were thrust into the same spotlight.
“It was nice to have a soulmate in there with you.”
Fatboy recently revealed that he couldn’t commit to working with DJ and record producer Fred Again as he struggles to get his head around the technology that is used in modern music.
Speaking on Apple Music 1, he told Rebecca Judd: “Everybody was trying to get us to work together. I was just going, ‘I can’t be in the same room as him.’ I wouldn’t know where to start because of what he’s doing with technology.
“I’m old school, I’m OG and I’m used to just playing records with the cross-fader and maybe using a sample a bit, but he’s taking it to the next level. I don’t feel like I’m in the same conversation as him.
“I would sit there looking at him in awe, going, ‘How the hell did you do that?'”

The Libertines announce massive Gunnersbury Park show next summer

OHMYGOSSIP — The Libertines have announced a huge show at London’s Gunnersbury Park next summer.
The ‘Don’t Look Back into the Sun’ rockers will perform a homecoming show on August 9, 2025, where they will be joined by special guests Supergrass.
The Libertines will also be joined on the bill by Soft Play, Hak Baker, Lambrini Girls and Real Farmer.
The band – comprised of Pete Doherty, Carl Barat, John Hassall and Gary Powell – said: “The old white mansion in Gunnersbury Park is in one of our favourite films, ‘The Lavender Hill Mob’, so we thought we’d bring the Eastern Esplanade mob and some spiky guitars to that Arcadian glade in West London for a good ol’ homecoming knees up.
“Look forward to seeing you there, along with our friends Supergrass, Soft Play, Hak Baker, Lambrini Girls and Real Farmer. Love Peter, Carl, Gary and John X”
Danny Goffey of Supergrass said: “We are so pleased to be involved in the Gunnersbury Park gig with The Libertines and all the other great bands playing on the night.
“Gunnersbury Park is a really amazing venue to see bands perform. We first played with The Libertines 22 years ago back in 2002 when we took the fledgling band on tour with us. Wow… time flies when you’re having fun. See you there!”
Doherty previously described how he is able to “relax” when he and the band find the right song.
The 45-year-old musician said: “But when I’m with the guys and we’re together and the songs come to us and they’re perfect, I’m able to live in the moment and relax. Ultimately, it’s me who’s in these songs. The darkest things we could say or do end up in the songs anyway. Which, when you think about it, may have been a deliberate coping tactic.”

Paloma Faith and Tinie Tempah elected to The Ivors Academy member Senate

OHMYGOSSIP — Paloma Faith and Tinie Tempah have been elected to The Ivors Academy member Senate.
The stars are amongst 40 distinguished songwriters and composers to be elected to the body that represents the interests and rights of music writers.
Other figures joining the Senate for the first time include David Arnold, Kamille and Kal Lavelle.
The Senate is the voice of The Ivors Academy’s members and ensures that their perspectives and priorities are central to the Academy’s governance.
Its aim is to provide critical insight on key music industry issues and shape policies and campaigns on topics such as Artificial Intelligence, fair pay and the future of public arts funding.
The body aims to make the music industry more accessible, fair and sustainable.
Roberto Neri, CEO of The Ivors Academy, said: “Alongside other issues, our new Senate will strengthen our voice in addressing the potential threat of AI, with lobbying the new Government to fix streaming and ensuring media composers sign fairer contracts.
“It has never been more important to effectively advocate for the crucial role of songwriters and composers – they are the backbone of the music industry yet remain undervalued.
“The Ivors Academy and our new Senate will ensure we empower our whole community, address their key issues and continue to champion and protect them until we have a fairer and more sustainable music future.”
Paloma has previously spoken out against the use of AI in music as she fears it will remove the “emotional” element from the genre.
The ‘Only Love Can Hurt Like This’ singer said at the Ivor Novello Awards earlier this year: “What I think the danger is and what the worry is… is that our emotional range and our emotional intellect will be guided by computers and eventually maybe we’ll lose part of our brains, because we will believe that there is only the emotional range that a computer has dictated to us. That to me is worrying.”

Billy Corgan contemplated giving up the guitar after his father’s death

OHMYGOSSIP — Billy Corgan questioned whether he wanted to play the guitar again after his father passed away.
The Smashing Pumpkins frontman has admitted that the only reason he ever picked up the instrument in the first place was because he wanted to impress his pop, William Dale Corgan, and following his death in 2020, he contemplated whether he should carry on playing because he couldn’t impress him anymore.
He told Guitar World magazine: “My father passed away two and a half years ago; my father was my true idol. He was a really good guitar player; I learned a lot from watching him play. He explained a lot about how he saw music, and I absorbed a lot of that into my philosophical thinking.
“When my father passed away, this curious thing that happened – which anybody who has suffered loss can understand – where part of mourning is you feel things that you can only feel once you lose somebody.
“The thing that struck me – and I couldn’t have expected it in a million years – was I only picked up guitar in the first place to impress my father.
“I didn’t have a true desire to play guitar in the way that some great guitar players like Joe Bonamassa did. When I look at him or Billy Gibbons, I see pure guitar players; I’m not really a pure guitar player.”
After questioning whether he should resume playing the guitar, the 57-year-old rocker realised he could continue to “honour” his father’s memory.
He said: “I’ve had, at different times, a love/hate relationship with the guitar. I didn’t realise until after my father passed away that my father was the reason I wanted to play the guitar. Once he was gone, I thought, ‘Well, gee, do I still even want to play the guitar?’ Because he’s not here anymore to impress, it was a very subliminal recognition.
I was nothing I’d ever considered. Once I let that run through me, I came out the other side, thinking, ‘Yeah, I still want to play the guitar. This is a great way to continue to honour my father. He gave me the gift of music and playing guitar.’ I got super motivated to play; it was a strange thing I could never have anticipated, but that’s how I ended up here.”

Nicole Scherzinger and Pussycat Dolls founder settle legal battle

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicole Scherzinger and the Pussycat Dolls’ founder have ended their lengthy legal battle over the group’s cancelled reunion.
The ‘Poison’ hitmaker was sued by Robin Antin in September 2021 for allegedly refusing to take part in the band’s comeback shows unless she received full creative control and a 75% profit share and the following August, the Tony Award-winning star filed a cross complaint accusing the choreographer of mismanagement and misappropriating funds.
But now, the New York Post newspaper’s Page Six column reports the pair jointly filed documents in court in Los Angeles on Friday (01.11.24), which stated both “parties have reached a settlement in principle, subject to the execution of certain written agreements.”
The notice didn’t disclose the terms of the agreement, but it means a jury trial that had been scheduled for next month has now been cnacelled and replaced by a hearing on 28 July, 2025, to officially dismiss the case.
An insider told the outlet Nicole and 63-year-old Robin had “actually came to a resolution months ago but needed some time to formalise the details.”
When Robin first sued the 48-year-old singer, Nicole’s legal team branded the case “meritless” and insisted she had simply asked to renegotiate her contract after the COVID-19 pandemic led to the reunion shows being delayed.
But later that month, Nicole announced the tour had been scrapped entirely – much to the surprise of her bandmates.
Carmit Bachar and Jessica Sutter admitted they hadn’t been “officially” told of the cancellation decision and only found out as a result of Nicole’s Instagram statement.
They wrote on their Instagram Story shortly after Nicole had broken the news on the social media platform: “We want to say how incredibly disappointed we are to learn of an announcement made on Instagram that the Pussycat Dolls reunion tour is canceled.
“As of now, there has been no official notification of that.
The bandmates admitted they had “big dreams” to ensure “all of our voices could be heard”, and while the tour is off, they insisted “it’s not the end of the Dolls story”.
They added: “Either way, it seems as though it’s the end of a chapter to an incredible, life-altering experience full of some awesome memories that we will forever be grateful for.”
And Kimberly Wyatt admitted she had no idea until the news leaked online.
She told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “The way it was communicated wasn’t nice or kind to most of us.
“I found out through a fan’s tweet. I was devastated and cried my eyes out.
“We were planning a world tour and were even booked for Glastonbury.”

Adele confirms Las Vegas residency will end this month

OHMYGOSSIP — Adele has confirmed the end of her Las Vegas residency.
The ‘Skyfall’ singer opened her delayed ‘Weekends With Adele’ concert series at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in November 2022 and while she has extended the dates several times since then, she’s now confirmed she won’t be doing so after her final shows later this month.
Speaking on stage on Friday (01.11.24), The Sun on Sunday newspaper’s Bizarre column reports she told the crowd: “This really is the beginning of the end. There are no other f**** shows.
“I’m not going to be like, ‘Surprise!’ This is the end.
“It’s [the 100th and final show] the weekend before Thanksgiving, isn’t it? And that’s the last one. I don’t have any plans to be on stage indefinitely, really.”
Adele – who has 11-year-old son Angelo with ex-husband Simon Konecki and is in a relationship with sports agent Rich Paul – admitted her life is a “thousand times better” since her residency started and she is “genuinely sad” for it to come to an end.
She added: “They say that if you want things and you are looking for things in life, you have to pay the universe and then it pays you back tenfold.
“I feel like that’s what’s happened with this show for me. My life is a thousand times better.
“My life, not my career, not my music. I’m talking about my actual life. And I really, truly think that this show has been my best friend throughout all of that.
“And I’m so genuinely sad.”
Over the summer, the 36-year-old star vowed to take a lengthy break when her Las Vegas commitments come to an end.
Speaking on stage at the end of her 10-night residency in Munich, Germany, she said: “I have spent the last seven years building a new life for myself, and I want to live it. I want to live the new life that I have been building.”

Dua Lipa set to release live album

OHMYGOSSIP — Dua Lipa is reportedly set to release a live album.
The 29-year-old pop star took to the stage at the Royal Albert Hall in London last month, and it has now been revealed not only has the show been filmed for a television special, but will also will be released as a standalone record.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Dua wanted to give something back to her fans after an amazing year. She’s dabbled with live releases before, such as with her Brit Awards performance but this is the first time she will release a full live album.
“It’s expected to be announced in the coming weeks.”
Dua’s setlist at the Royal Albert Hall was made up of hits such as ‘Don’t Start Now’ and ‘Be the One’, as well ‘Dance the Night’ from ‘Barbie’ and she even performed a duet of ‘Cold Heart’ with Sir Elton Jonn.
It is thought that ‘An Audience with Dua Lipa’ will air on ITV1 at some point before the festive period is out, and that the ‘Training Season’ hitmaker will follow in the footsteps of Adele and Kylie Minogue with the special, but unlike her predecessors, she will not be taking questions from the audience.
Instead, the format of the show will follow that of a concert film, and the news comes just hours ahead of her launching her ‘Radical Optimism Tour’ in support of her third studio album of the same name.
The ‘Levitating’ singer will kick off her tour Asia on November 5 with shows in Singapore, the Philippines, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia and Thailand, and will then return in March for performances in Australia and New Zealand.
The tour will then head to Europe in May and June covering cities including Madrid, Spain, Lyon, France, Hamburg, Germany, Amsterdam, Netherlands and Milan, Italy before she lands back on home soil for two massive shows at London’s Wembley Stadium on June 20 and 21.
Her other UK date will be a stop in Liverpool and she will play a show in Dublin, Ireland before taking the tour across the Atlantic in September for dates in Canada and North America.
The North American leg kicks off in Toronto, Canada on September 1 and will take in cities including Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, New York, Miami and Dallas before concluding in Seattle on October 16.

Tony Iommi admits Black Sabbath reunion concert is up ‘in the air’

OHMYGOSSIP — Tony Iommi admits Black Sabbath’s one-off reunion is “up in the air”.
Frontman Ozzy Osborune has said he’s determined to reunite with former drummer Bill Ward – who opted out of their reunion tour in 2012, with Tommy Clufetos stepping in for both those concerts and the final ‘The End Tour’ in 2016 and 2017 – one last time.
Both Bill and bassist Geezer Butler have said they would be down for a reunion, however, axe-slayer Tony admits it’s down to their health and whether they can still play as well.
Ozzy is battling ongoing health issues, including Parkinson’s, and has undergone several surgeries for his spine, and he was unable to perform when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month, with the Prince of Darkness seated in a bat thrown as rock royalty paid tribute to him.
Speaking to Guitar World magazine, Tony said when asked if a Sabbath concert is on the cards: “Who knows? You can never say never, and we never have said never. It really depends on everybody’s health and what we’d expect from each other now. Can we still play and sound the same together? I don’t know because it’s been such a long time. It’s in the air.
“By the time it comes around, if it ever does, we’ll have to see what state everybody is in and whether we can climb on stage. If we did, it would have to be good otherwise I wouldn’t do it.
“There’s no point in just getting up, what can you prove by doing that? If it’s not right or as good as it was, then there’s no point in doing it. In my eyes, it has to be as good or better.”

Ed Sheeran beats new copyright claim

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran has beaten a copyright appeal over his track ‘Thinking out Loud’.
Last year, the star and his long-time collaborator Amy Wadge were cleared by a New York jury after being accused by the heirs of Ed Townsend, who co-wrote ‘Let’s Get It On’, of ripping off Townsend and Marvin Gaye’s track for their own song.
However, Structured Asset Sales, the partial owners of the copyright of Townsend, later brought a new case to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, which was ultimately unsuccessful.
The appeals court ruled that the two songs share only “fundamental musical building blocks” which cannot be owned by a single songwriter, Billboard reports.
The panel of appeals court judges ruled: “The four-chord progression at issue—ubiquitous in pop music—even coupled with a syncopated harmonic rhythm, is too well-explored to meet the originality threshold that copyright law demands. Overprotecting such basic elements would threaten to stifle creativity and undermine the purpose of copyright law.
“Neither the melody nor the lyrics of ‘Thinking Out’ Loud bears any resemblance to those in ‘Let’s Get It On.’ Undeniable and obvious differences exist between them.
“In the field of popular songs, many, if not most, compositions bear some similarity to prior songs. So while a similar chord progression and harmonic rhythm may create a similar sound and feel, that is not enough.”
Ed’s attorney Donald Zakarin of the law firm Pryor Cashman, told Billboard: “This ruling is consistent with the jury’s rejection of any claim of infringement in the [earlier] case, finding that Ed and Amy independently created ‘Thinking Out Loud.'”

Snoop Dogg’s ‘weed song’

OHMYGOSSIP — Snoop Dogg has called his upcoming Tom Petty collaboration a “weed song”.
The 53-year-old rapper’s new album ‘Missionary’ will feature Ice Spice, Eminem, 50 Cent and a contribution from the estate of the late Juice WRLD but Snoop is particularly excited about ‘Last Dance With Mary Jane’ featuring the vocals of Jelly Roll and Petty, who died in 2017.
He told Variety: “Well, Tom Petty is a weed song, so I don’t know if they’re going to let that one in. But the 50 Cent Eminem song is a real street record that sounds like it’s supposed to be in this game with all the different things that I’m seeing. Especially in my maps, so it fits perfectly with the things I’m doing.”
Snoop also revealed that Eminem will feature in the rollout campaign for the album and he is looking forward to working with his fellow rapper.
He said: “That’s Slim Shady, that’s my guy! That’s my Libra gang partner. So we like to do as many things we can do together, we like to do because we’re family. So I was glad to see he was part of this as well.”
And, along with a new album, Snoop also has Hollywood plans, which include a surprising take on ‘Planet of the Apes’.
He said: “I can’t really give up the storyline, but I’m going to [share] the idea. I love ‘Planet of the Apes.’ ‘Planet of the Apes’ made me wait too long to see the next one. So I’m going to do something in that vein, where you don’t have to wait. But just imagine it was dogs instead of apes.”

Robert Smith finds it ‘much harder’ to write songs he wants to sing

OHMYGOSSIP — Robert Smith finds it “much harder” to write songs he “wants to sing” these days.
The 65-year-old singer’s band The Cure have just released ‘Songs of a Lost World’, their first album in 18 years and while the ‘Just Like Heaven’ hitmaker still pens new lyrics, he admitted it is a difficult process to put the words into a song he wants to perform.
Speaking to Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 6 Music, he said: ““It’s the one thing, as I’ve grown older, that I’ve found much much harder to do, to write words that I want to sing. I can write words but I don’t really feel like singing them.
“So to arrive at that point where I think that it’s worth singing these songs, it has become really, really hard. I have to admit.”
In 2029, Robert will turn 70 and the band will mark 50 years since the release of their debut album ‘Three Imaginary Boys’, but he insisted he isn’t worrying too much about such milestones as he’d rather live in the moment.
He said: “When I turned 60, I promised myself that I would stop thinking about anniversaries and upcoming stuff. It is kind of hard…
“The band’s gone through an awful lot in the last year and I’m making light of it but it becomes … you are inevitably encouraged within your own self just to think more about the day to day than you are about… so I’m looking forward to Christmas, I’m not really looking forward to my 70th birthday.
“If we get to my 70th birthday I’m quite happy for you to blow out the candles but, yeah I don’t think it’s tempting fate but I really just, I’m enjoying what we’re doing at the moment and I don’t really see any point in looking beyond it.
“For me personally, finishing a second Cure album, I’m almost there with it.
“Once I’ve done that, then I shall take a deep breath and then I’ll look up, but until I finish it I’m not bothering about what comes next.”
Robert’s interview was broadcast as part of ‘BBC Radio 6 Music Session: The Cure Live’ on Thursday (31.10.24) night.

Simon and Garfunkel in emotional reunion as pair put troublesome past behind them

OHMYGOSSIP — Art Garfunkel had an emotional reunion with Paul Simon recently.
The pair shot to fame as the duo Simon and Garfunkel in the 1960s with hits such as ‘The Sound of Silence’ and ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’.
However, their personal relationship deteriorated over the years, leading to their split in 1970 due to artistic disagreements.
Simon, 83, and Garfunkel, 82, went on to embark on successful solo careers and Garfunkel landed several movie roles including in 1970’s ‘Catch-22’.
They reunited a few times over the years for live performances, but their last concert was in 2010.
Their relationship remained fraught, with Simon admitting they “don’t get along” and don’t enjoy performing together in a 2016 interview with NPR.
However, after their recent reunion over lunch, they have finally ended their decades-long feud, even hugging each other and bursting into tears.
In an interview with The Sun newspaper, Art said: “I met with Paul Simon for the first time in years just recently.
“We had a lunch together. It was very, very warm and wonderful.”
He recalled: “There were tears. I was crying at a certain point because I felt that I had hurt him.”
“But there were hugs. I’m cherishing this two-week-old memory of having lunch with Paul Simon.”
Art admits he wouldn’t have wanted to die knowing he hadn’t repaired their friendship.
He said: “I like to think I’m a man who has a lot of love.
“There are NO relationships of mine that don’t have love at the bottom.
“I love everyone.
“I can’t imagine holding a position of dislike and clinging to it.
“It’s all meant to be resolved so we can die easy.”
The musician was speaking to promote his new duets album with his 33-year-old son Art Garfunkel Jr.
‘Father and Son’ features covers of classics by the likes of The Beatles (‘Blackbird’), Simon and Garfunkel (‘Old Friends’) and the album’s title track by Cat/Yusef Stevens.

Shawn Mendes honours late friend’s memory with new song Heart of Gold

OHMYGOSSIP — Shawn Mendes has released ‘Heart of Gold’ in tribute to a late childhood friend.
The Canadian pop star has shared the latest single from his upcoming self-titled LP, ‘Shawn’, and as well as honouring the memory of his dear friend, he hopes fans who have lost someone they love can relate to the song’s sentiment.
Shawn, 26, said in a statement: “Grief is a really, really difficult thing to deal with and a huge part of what has helped me has been celebrating that person. I would just like to dedicate this song to anyone out there who has lost someone – some who has passed or someone who’s alive – whichever way. This is for them.”
On the chorus, he sings: “You had a heart of gold/You left too soon/It was out of your control/Underneath your skin and bone/You had a heart of gold.”
Following the tragic passing of One Direction star Liam Payne at the age of 31 on October 16, Shawn dedicated the song to the pop star two days later.
Speaking onstage at the Brooklyn Paramount Theater in New York on October 18, he said: “He was a beautiful soul and his eyes gleamed. It was beauty shining through his eyes.
“It’s about grieving those we miss with tears and it’s also about celebrating them and who they were and what they left in this world.
“I just want to take a second to send so much love to him wherever he is up there. Liam, we love you. The world is crying for you, brother, and we’re all praying for your son and your family. I miss you.”
Before performing the then-unreleased track, he said: “This one’s for you tonight, Liam, from all of us.”
‘Heart of Gold’ follows previously released singles ‘Nobody Knows’, ‘Why Why Why’ and ‘Isn’t That Enough’, with the full record set to follow on November 15.
