Rita Ora’s new single ‘is a full circle moment’

OHMYGOSSIP — Rita Ora’s new single is a “full circle moment” for the pop star.
The 33-year-old singer has released ‘Ask and You Shall Receive’ ahead of her appearance at the Mighty Hoopla Festival in London, and Rita loves that the “upbeat” single was co-written by Raye.
Rita – who is set to perform at the festival on Sunday (02.06.24) – explained: “The song is full of upbeat, summery vibes and is about seizing the moment romantically, and diving straight in with that special someone.
“It was co-written by the amazing Raye, which feels like such a full circle moment, as I have so many amazing memories from when we were on the road together for the Phoenix tour.”
Rita’s new music video was shot in a 24-hour laundromat in Los Angeles, and the concept was inspired by the iconic 1985 Levis commercial starring Nick Kamen.
Rita released her last album, ‘You and I’, back in 2023, and the pop star previously explained how it differed from her earlier releases.
The ‘Don’t Think Twice’ hitmaker – who married filmmaker Taika Waititi in 2022 – told GQ magazine: “[With the album, I’m] capturing this moment in my life where I’m falling in love. There are things I talk about on it, very personal thoughts, about what it took for me to decide on this person, and to commit to him.
“With this album, I’ve just been very brave and confident. I’ve written a lot of songs on this album, I’ve been in every session, and if not, I’ve altered songs to fit me. I’ve never done that before with any album: really done all the work and written every single song or been a part of every single song process.”

“I wouldn’t have known I had this condition if I wasn’t having checks every year.”

Coldplay records collaboration with Little Simz

OHMYGOSSIP — Coldplay have recorded a track with Little Simz.
The chart-topping band and the 30-year-old rap star have joined forces to record the new song, which has been given a working title of ‘Supernova’.

The insider shared: “No expense was spared on the high-end production.”
Coldplay have worked with some of the best-known artists in the world over the years, including the likes of BTS, Rihanna and Selena Gomez.
And Chris Martin – the band’s frontman – previously claimed that their BTS collaboration felt very “natural” and “organic”.
Speaking about ‘My Universe’ – their 2021 track – Chris told BBC Radio 2: “I went to Korea to record with them and it went from being this completely ridiculous, impossible idea to feeling so natural and so organic, that it makes me giggle because now I just feel like, ‘Yeah, [it’s] our song with BTS and they’re like our little brothers and it’s completely cool’. But I see that on paper [and] it still looks funny.”
Chris, 47, also revealed the origins of the song title.
The singer – who started dating actress Dakota Johnson in 2017 – shared: “Someone said to me ‘Oh, BTS would like you to do a song for them’, and I said ‘No way, how would that work?’ But then I really liked BTS and what they’re doing.

Bruce Springsteen forced to cancel European stadium tour dates over health issue

OHMYGOSSIP — Bruce Springsteen has been forced to cancel some European shows due to ill health.
The 74-year-old rock star has been hitting stadiums with his E Street Band since 2023 but has suffered some vocal issues and has been ordered to postpone the show for the next 10 days, meaning that the dates that had been booked for Marseille, Prague and Milan will not go ahead.
A post on his official Instagram page read: “Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band to Postpone Prague and Milan Shows Under Doctor’s Direction, European Stadium Tour Resumes June 12 in Madrid
“Following yesterday’s postponement in Marseille due to vocal issues, further examination and consulting has led doctors to determine that Bruce should not perform for the next ten days.””
The social media statement also noted that “additional postponements are required” as well but reassured fans that the ‘Born To Run’ hitmaker is “recuperating comfortably” and that he and his band all “look forward” to getting back on the road when they are able to do so.
It continued: “With this in mind, additional postponements are required for Airport Letnany in Prague (originally scheduled for May 28) and San Siro Stadium in Milan (originally scheduled for June 1 and 3). New dates for these shows will be announced shortly. Those wishing a refund will be able to obtain it at their original point of purchase.
“Bruce is recuperating comfortably, and he and the E Street Band look forward to resuming their hugely successful European stadium tour on June 12 in Madrid at the magnificent Civitas Metropolitan.”
The news comes just days after Bruce surprised gig-goers by kicking off his Kilkenny gig with a moving tribute to his late friend, Shane MacGowan.
The Boss headlined Nowlan Park with the E Street Band on Sunday (13.05.24) and started his set with a rousing rendition of the Pogues classic ‘A Rainy Night in Soho’ in memory of the Irish music legend.
The ‘Fairytale of New York’ group reacted on X: “Lovely tribute to our boss, thanks Bruce.”
Shane died of pneumonia last November, aged 65, after months of battling ill health.
Springsteen had visited him in hospital during the Irish leg of his world tour.
Paying his respects, the ‘Hungry Heart’ hitmaker wrote upon the sad news of his passing: “Shane was one of my all-time favourite writers.
“The passion and deep intensity of his music and lyrics is unmatched by all but the very best in the rock and roll canon.
“I was fortunate to spend a little time with Shane and his lovely wife Victoria the last time we were in Dublin. He was very ill, but still beautifully present in his heart and spirit.
“His music is timeless and eternal. I don’t know about the rest of us, but they’ll be singing Shane’s songs 100 years from now.”

Grammy winners for KING + COUNTRY hope biopic and soundtrack inspires people to go after dreams

OHMYGOSSIP — for KING + COUNTRY hope their family biopic ‘Unsung Hero’ and soundtrack inspires people to follow their wildest dreams.
The Grammy winning duo – comprising brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone – released the 2024 Christian drama movie, which follows Joel and Luke and their sister Rebecca on their life journey to become Christian recording artists, to acclaim.
Their mother, Helen Smallbone, played by Daisy Betts, was pregnant when she decided to move the family “halfway around the world” from Australia to Nashville to give them the best chance at their dreams.
The movie ends with Rebecca signing to a record label in 1993 after years of financial struggle.
Joel said of the soundtrack released in tandem with the flick: “The soundtrack was a direct derivative of the movie. It’s our family story.
“We were originally from Australia and Dad was a concert promoter helping bands and artists down there, and he lost the equivalent of half $1,000,000. So, he and Mum decided to pack 16 suitcases and six kids when she was six months pregnant, and moved literally halfway around the world to Nashville, which is where we still are to this day.
“I co-wrote, co-directed and played our dad in the film’ tells Joel. ‘Luke produced it. So inevitably, when it came to the inspired by, we thought, wouldn’t it just be fun and fascinating to build a record that sort of is an ode to all these great moments.”
The soundtrack features re-imaginings of 90s classics.
He said: “There’s all these cross pollinating of genres going on – you’ve got country, you’ve got Lee Bryson, Hillary Scott from Lady A, you’ve got rap, hip hop with Lecrae and you’ve got rock with Striper. Then there’s the ballads. Luke’s and my vocals carry the narrative in all of these songs switching in and out of genres and collaborations.”
Joel actually plays his father, David Smallbone.
He said: “You’re trying to channel your own story, your own heart, and then in movies you’re trying to channel someone else’s. And so I think I kept them pretty relegated in my focus. We wanted to channel our story and be honest about how we interpreted the songs and these lyrics vocally.”
It was “emotionally captivating” to take the lyrics and apply them to their own story.
Luke shared: “Never did I understand the depth until we actually started singing them, and it was really emotionally captivating to drop these into our family story but make them into your own.
“These family stories were being lived out and the songs were being written at the same time as this.”
He added: “The film talks about unsung heroes. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone that doesn’t have one. Whether it’s an uncle, auntie, grandparent or whatever it is, everyone’s got someone that is seemingly doing the invisible things that impact our life. The song talks about realising who believed in us – These characters are the ones that change our life and in return can change generations. A lot of times, we think people need to have a microphone or a platform to actually evoke change in the world. In this case, the film is talking about our personal experience with our mother.”
Making the film was no easy feat but they insist it’s worth it if they can inspire others to take the risk and go for what they want in life.
Joel said: “We’ve just been able to break it out in a different way from our own bubble and our own box and there’s always discovery in that.
‘I hope people recognise the power of family and faith in their lives. Everyone’s a son and a daughter. I hope people feel the encouragement of what family can do in people’s lives. It is the foundation of hopefully a happy life and infusing belief in your children. If our parents didn’t have their own parents, who maybe in a quiet moment said they wish they had risked a little bit more and lived adventurously, I’m not sure. If that’s the dream you’re chasing, go chase it. Go see what you can do. Whether it’s across the pond of the Atlantic or in our situation, across the ocean.”

Olly Alexander officially scraps Years and Years stage name

OHMYGOSSIP — Olly Alexander has officially abandoned the Years and Years moniker for his music.
The 33-year-old singer – who rose to fame as the frontman of the ‘King’ hitmakers alongside Mikey Goldsworthy and Emre Türkmen – had continued using the name as a solo artist with 2022 release ‘Night Call’, but now he has confirmed he will be performing under this own name in the future.
Taking to the stage at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend on Sunday (26.05.24), he told the crowd at Luton’s Stockwood Park: “Listen, listen, I don’t know have to tell you how good it feels to be back in the UK, doing a show.
“Do you know what this is my first ever show as Olly Alexander? I used to be in Years and Years, I used to be Years and Years and now I’m just me.”
The show also marked Olly’s first show since he finished 18th in the ‘Eurovision Song Contest’ earlier this month with an infamous ‘nil points’ in the public vote.
He still performed his entry song ‘Dizzy’ at the festival, and took the opportunity to poke fun at his disappointing tally.
He quipped: “And now for the song that was only 17 places away from winning the Eurovision Song Contest, it’s ‘Dizzy.’ ”
Despite his disappointing result at ‘Eurovision’, the actor and singer jokingly described his low score as “iconic” while tahnking fans for their support.
He wrote on Instagram: “Honestly I don’t know where to even begin with this whole experience, I’m going to be processing things for a long time!
“For now I just want to say I am so proud of the performance and my team, everybody absolutely smashed it and gave it their all to bring the vision to life!!
“I met so many talented wonderful people on and off the stage and I’m really thankful we were able to support each other throughout…
“Though we may have received NIL Points from the voting public – which I shall be claiming as iconic! – I’ve also seen a lot of love and I’m truly grateful, thank you.”

Slash brands AI ‘confusing and misleading’

OHMYGOSSIP — Slash has branded AI “confusing and misleading”.
The Guns N’ Roses frontman, 58, fears that overuse of the technology will lead to more music having the same “look or sound”.
Speaking on the ‘Battleground Podcast’, he said: “I’m not super excited about this new development, only because I just know that people, for the most part, are gonna use it so much that it’s gonna be confusing and misleading.”
“There’s just gonna be too much of the same kind of look or sound for different things. I see it happening already.”
Although he is not a fan and sees no use for it himself, Slash would love to see someone create something “unique and useful” with it.
He continued: “I’m the guy that likes to go into a studio and record a band live and do it analog. So the idea of AI, I can’t think of any application where it makes any sense to me for what it is that I do.
“I’m interested to see who comes up with something really great and unique and useful for me.
“But having AI reproduce anything or actually produce anything original in terms of music does not really thrill me.”
The rock legend’s comments on AI come after he teased Guns N’ Roses are “trying” to make a new album.
The axe-slayer recently released ‘Orgy Of The Damned’, a record of mostly blues tracks featuring a string of guest vocalists, and he didn’t want to “drag” his bandmate Axl Rose into appearing on the LP because their group are busy with the long-awaited follow-up to 2008’s ‘Chinese Democracy’, on which he didn’t appear.
Explaining why Axl and his The Conspirators collaborator Myles Kennedy don’t feature on his new album, Slash was quoted by the Daily Star Sunday newspaper’s Wired column as saying: “It was my own side thing, so I wasn’t dragging my own guys in.
“Guns N’ Roses are trying to make their own record and I’m working with them in that capacity, but this didn’t involve anyone else.”
In December, the group released ‘Perhaps’, followed by ‘The General’, which were both recorded around the same time as ‘Chinese Democracy’, just like 2021’s releases ‘Absurd’ and ‘Hard Skool’.
The notorious record was delayed for years and held up by legal issues, while Slash, bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum quit the group, and only frontman Axl and keyboardist Dizzy Reed remained.

Sir Elton John and Cillian Murphy praise Cocteau Twins star Simon Raymonde’s memoir

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Elton John and Cillian Murphy have penned forewords for Cocteau Twins star Simon Raymonde’s memoir.
The 62-year-old musician – who is the son of late arranger and composer Ivor Raymonde – was the bass guitarist and keyboard player in the Scottish band from 1983 to 1997, and he has announced his upcoming tell-all tome, ‘In One Ear – Cocteau Twins, Ivor and Me’, which is due to be released on September 12.
He shared on Instagram: “So I wrote a book. You know, like a big grown up kinda thing to do.
“It covers all the good and bad bits, falling over, getting up, shorts, big boy pants, [his father] Ivor, and a big ole love letter to Cocteau Twins too. But I can’t tell you everything here that would be silly. You’ll have to read it yourself…”
‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Peaky Blinders’ star Cillian, 48, wrote: “A beautiful insightful and honest look into the life of legend and musical polymath Simon Raymonde.”
And music legend Elton, 77, penned: “This is a wonderful book of pop music history. A man obsessed with the beauty of creative artists and wanting to create his own legacy and to enable other musicians to have a voice by releasing their magic. We need more of people like him in a world full of mass-produced mediocrity.”
The blurb reads: “The page-turning memoir of Cocteau Twins’ Simon Raymonde, charting his life and legacy in music. As one-third of seminal band Cocteau Twins, Simon Raymonde helped to create some of the most beautiful and memorable albums of the ’80s and ’90s – music that continues to cast a spell over millions. This is the story of the band, in his words.
“Beginning with Simon’s remarkable childhood and exploring his relationship with his father, Ivor Raymonde (the legendary producer, musician and arranger for acts such as the Walker Brothers and songwriter for artists including Dusty Springfield), the book will journey through the musician’s rise to prominence and his time with Cocteau Twins and This Mortal Coil.
“It will also chart the successful career he has forged running his own label, Bella Union, for the past twenty-seven years, discovering and developing globally renowned artists like Beach House, Fleet Foxes, Father John Misty and John Grant.
“And the narrative will lead us back to the present day, reflecting on Simon’s most recent experiences in the music industry – all while going deaf in one ear.
“A must-read for music fans, this is the incredible tale of Simon’s life and legacy.”

Liam – who has been at loggerheads with his brother, the group’s former guitarist, Noel Gallagher, 56, since a backstage bust-up between the pair at their final concert in Paris in 2009 – previously claimed his estranged sibling turned down his offer to reunite with him on the jaunt.
When a fan asked if Noel would be taking part, Liam replied: “He’s been asked and he’s refused.”

It will also be available on Limited-Edition blue cassette and digital formats. All formats include the 2014 remastered version of the album.

Tommy Lee says Motley Crue have ‘a new energy’ after dropping music with new guitarist John 5

OHMYGOSSIP — Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee admits it was “really important” to make new music with new guitarist John 5.
The ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’ hitmakers’ longtime axe-slayer, Mick Mars, was shocked when Nikki Sixx, Vince Neil and Tommy issued a statement announcing he had resigned from the band entirely, when in fact, Mars claims he had retired from touring.
The group – who have gone through a legal tussle with Mick – have moved on with their new guitarist and feel reborn after penning new tunes together with their regular producer Bob Rock.
Speaking to Japanese rock radio personality, Masa Ito, on TVK’s Rock City, Tommy said: “Going to record was really important to us because during that tour (The Stadium Tour 2023), we felt all this new energy. Having John 5 in the band really, really inspired us to share with our fans what we’re feeling. This new energy is like a rebirth in many ways, and so we started writing some music, and we were, like, ‘Well, let’s get Bob Rock (producer), let’s go in and let’s put this on tape and record it.’ The whole tour and having John in the band, all of it was very inspirational in getting us to share some new music with our fans, because, also, we’re really strong believers in you’re only as good as your last effort, and we hadn’t recorded anything new in a while.”
In April, they released their first new music in five years, single ‘Dogs Of War’.
Bassist Nikki recently told NME: “There was no plan to actually record ‘Dogs Of War’.
“We were in the studio doing demos, and it always happens where we have a vision of a song but then other riffs come out from there. So while we were working on a song, this riff came out.
“We had a ‘Blitzkrieg Bop’ [The Ramones] cover that we were talking about doing, but essentially we were just getting together to be creative. Then ‘Dogs Of War’ came out, as well as a couple of other ideas.
“At the end of that day I went home and was watching A Handmaid’s Tale on Netflix, and here’s a saying in the show, ‘Don’t let the bastard grind you down’. So I wrote it down, then I wrote a lot of the lyrics pretty much from there.”

Metallica’s James Hetfield inspired by Sir Elton John in latest writing sessions

OHMYGOSSIP — Metallica’s James Hetfield has been busy penning new music and revealed he’s been inspired by Sir Elton John.
The heavy metal titans performed the music legend’s hit medley, ‘Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding’, when the ‘Tiny Dancer’ hitmaker and his longtime songwriting partner Bernie Taupin received the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.
And the frontman has admitted the experience “challenged” him and it’s seeping into the songwriting he’s been doing of late.
Speaking ‘The Metallica Report’ podcast, he spilled: “The time off has been pretty fantastic but, at the same time, I missed playing with the guys. And I let them know, ‘Man, I miss jamming with you guys!’
“We’ve done a few things here and there.
“The Elton John thing [covering Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding on TV in April] was so fantastic. Had a blast there. Elton, what a beautiful soul.”
The ‘Nothing Else Matters’ rocker loves nothing more than escaping to his little makeshift music studio in his basement to work on new tunes and admits playing the guitar every day is “like breathing” for him.
He shared: “[I’ve] been doing some skiing, getting up on the mountain – there’s been tons of snow in Colorado, where we’re at, so a good snow season – and writing loads of music.
“[I’ve been] playing guitar pretty much every day. I have to. It’s like breathing.”
Hetfield says he’s always full of ideas and music is “an escape” for him.
He said: “I’m so grateful it doesn’t shut off.
“Whether it’s an escape from life or whatever it is, I love my little music room basement. I’ve got a computer, a few guitars and a little rig set up. It is my soul-nourishing place, to go in there and just play and write. Not so much practicing, it’s just writing.”
He continued: “There’s always ideas. I get inspired [by] all kinds of different music, listening to it. Even the Elton John thing, hanging out with Elton and Bernie Taupin challenged me.
“Watching [2019 John biopic] Rocketman and seeing how they wrote – Elton is such a visionary in the way that Bernie sets a set of lyrics, a poem, in front of him and he sees the music just appearing, which is bizarre to me. I’m more of the old Tony Iommi way, where, ‘Here is the riff, and we build around the riff,’ you know?”
Metallica’s last studio album was 2023’s juggernaut ’72 Seasons’.
