Lauryn Hill, Michael Jackson and The Beatles top Apple Music’s 100 Best Albums Of All Time List

OHMYGOSSIP — Lauryn Hill, Michael Jackson and The Beatles sit atop the top 10 albums from Apple Music’s 100 Best Albums of All Time List.
The streaming giant’s experts worked alongside a select group of artists, songwriters, producers and industry professionals to curate the list, fully independent of any streaming numbers on Apple Music.
The former’s only solo album, 1998’s timeless classic, ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’, is in first place.
Upon receiving the accolade, Lauryn said: “This is my award, but it’s a rich, deep narrative, and involves so many people, and so much sacrifice, and so much time, and so much collective love.”
Few albums have come close to the late King of Pop’s legendary 1982 LP ‘Thriller’ in terms of influence and domination, with the record positioned at number two.
Apple Music’s Zane Lowe commented: “Not only did it outsell everything in its opening year, it outsold everything in its second year. It changed the way people approached making music, releasing music, distributing, marketing music, and no one ever caught up to it. It set the bar so high.”
CHIC legend Nile Rodgers said: “When Michael dropped this record, to me, the world changed. It was a seismic shift. Having a Black artist do a music video on the level of ‘Thriller’ just changed the world.”
At number three is The Beatles’ 1969 studio album, ‘Abbey Road’; a cultural behemoth that transcends time.
Nile said: “There’s something about the Beatles that’s always really magical to me. Believe it or not, the first song I ever actually learned to play on guitar was a Beatles song. I knew at that moment that I was going to be a guitar player. Prior to that, I played the clarinet.”
Zane said: “The amount of songs that have stayed with people as they’ve lived their lives to a point… played at anniversaries, weddings, funerals, fall in love to, broken up to. There are lots of songbooks that speak to many times in life. I think The Beatles have the songbook of life.”
The list is completed by Prince and The Revolution’s ‘Purple Rain’, Frank Ocean’s ‘Blonde’, Stevie Wonder’s ‘Songs in the Key of Life’, Kendrick Lamar’s ‘good kid, m.A.A.d city (Deluxe Version)’, Amy Winehouse’s ‘Back to Black’, Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’, and ‘Lemonade’ by Beyoncé.

Bring Me The Horizon drop new album after surprise announcement

OHMYGOSSIP — Bring Me The Horizon have dropped their new album, after giving fans less than a day’s notice.
The British rockers took to Instagram on Thursday (23.05.24) to make the shock announcement that they were releasing their new record, ‘POST HUMAN: NeX GEn’, which has been delayed since last August, just hours later at midnight.
A post on Bring Me The Horizon’s official Instagram page read: “BMTH invites you to Ascend!+ POST HUMAN: NeX GEn [out midnight 24.05] (sic)”
Frontman Oli Sykes commented on the post: “there’s a place i wanna take u (sic)”
Last month, the ‘Throne’ hitmakers teased their seventh studio album by sharing a clip that said: “You cling to your virtual identity as if it were your very soul. Pathetic. I’m here to wipe away the detritus of your existence. All these thoughts, these memories, they are but a fleeting echo in an endless void. And just like that, you cease to exist in a digital realm. A mere blip erased from the annals of cyberspace. Farewell insignificant content.”
“It’s time for a new era. Initialising NeX GEn.”
In March, the BRIT Award-winning rockers – who won their first-ever BRIT for Best Rock/Alternative Act earlier this year – revealed the record was “nearly finished”.
Oli said: “It’s nearly finished, but it’s not finished. Every time we think we’ve got it; we get another song.
“It’s going to be right good though, it’s our best album ever … worth the wait.”
Drummer Matt Nicholls added: “It’s not quite finished yet, but it’s closer than it ever has been.
“We came back off tour and – we’ve got a studio in Sheffield – just cracked on.
“Got our heads down with everyone all together and we’re getting there. It’s this close…
“It is really good, and we’re really happy with it but it takes time, doesn’t it?
“You can’t rush these things.”
They were previously forced to push back the follow-up to 2020’s ‘Post Human: Survival Horror’, which was originally set for release on September 15, 2023, due to “unforeseen circumstances”.
Then, in December, it was announced that programmer and keyboardist Jordan Fish – who was instrumental in their evolved sound – had departed the group.

Gaga teases possibility of another Beyonce collaboration

OHMYGOSSIP — Lady Gaga wants to record another single with Beyonce.
The two superstars teamed up on ‘Telephone’ in 2010, and the ‘Bad Romance’ hitmaker also featured on her pal’s track ‘Video Phone’ in 2009, and after fans speculated they were recording a follow-up track earlier this year, the ‘Star Is Born’ actress has teased it could still happen.
She told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “Whenever Beyoncé calls, I’d like to pick up the phone.”
The speculation began in February, when Beyonce’s Verizon commercial debuted during the Super Bowl, teasing her new music, and fans drew comparisons between the motifs in promo images and videos for ‘Cowboy Carter’ and the vibe of the ‘Telephone’ music video.
But while any new duet may not be happening in the near future, Gaga teased fans won’t need to wait too long for her seventh studio album, the follow-up to 2020’s ‘Chromatica’.
She said: “I have been working on my new music all the time and I truly live and breathe it. I just can’t wait to give it to the fans.”
Asked when fans can expect the record, which she described as a “completely different project”, she added: “They hate when I say, ‘Soon,’ but soon.”
Gaga has been busy working on a new concert film for ‘The Chromatica Ball’ – which will be released on HBO’s Max on May 25 – and she is “really excited” for fans to get up close to every element of her live shows.
She said: “I’m really excited for the fans to see all the details in the show. There’s only so much you can see at a stadium and we are so laser-focused on everything.
“It’s just an experience that really you can’t replicate unless you see it in this film, so I’m hoping that people will really enjoy it because it’s truly a never-before-seen experience.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Post Malone and Blake Shelton have teamed up on a new tune.
The 28-year-old star is currently riding the country wave, and after teaming up with Morgan Wallen on ‘I Had Some Help’, Taylor Swift on ‘Fortnight’ from ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ and Beyonce’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ track ‘Leviis Jeans’, he has another duet on the way with the 47-year-old country star.
The lyrics include: “Somebody pour me a drink, somebody bum me a smoke/ I’m ’bout to get on a buzz/ I’m ’bout to get on a roll…I’ve been breaking my back, just keepin’ up with the Joneses.”
The ‘Circles’ hitmaker shared a clip of him grinning as he listened back to the tune on Instagram.
The track is currently available to pre-save on streaming platforms.
Blake’s pop star wife, Gwen Stefani, is a huge fan, commenting: “Can’t handle this much cool and cute!! Super fan alert!”
The pair previously performed together in 2019 at the Elvis Presley All-Star tribute performance to sing ‘Blue Suede Shoes’.
Post recently gushed that he was “beyond honoured” to have collaborated with Taylor.
The ‘Sunflower’ hitmaker hailed his new friend as a “once in a lifetime” talent, who left him “floored”.

When the ‘Karma’ hitmaker announced details of the single, she admitted she was a “huge fan” of her collaborator, whose real name is Austin Post.

Paul Weller enjoyed ‘singing some else’s lyrics’ on latest LP 66

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Weller loved “singing someone else’s lyrics” on his latest studio album, ’66’.
The Mod Father didn’t have much to sing about so Madness star Suggs penned ‘Ship of Fools’, Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie contributed to ‘Soul Wandering’, and Noel Gallagher supplied ‘Jumble Queen’.
Speaking to Pop Matters, Weller said: “I didn’t feel I had so much to say.
“So I thought, well, I know a lot of other great writers, and I thought I’d utilise that and just kind of get someone else’s thoughts or words.
“I’ve done this sort of thing a few times in recent years, and I’ve really enjoyed it – singing other people’s words.
“When I do that, I’m not as fussy or critical as I would be if they were my lyrics. I can spend days sometimes just thinking about one line. When you’ve got someone else’s words, you’re just there as a vocalist to interpret them.”
Weller’s pals Dr Robert, Richard Hawley, Steve Brooks and Max Beesley also make appearances.
The former Jam star – who celebrates his 66th birthday on Saturday (25.05.24) – was asked what drives him and replied: “My love of music.
“I’m very fortunate and very lucky to do what I do. I never take it for granted. Music’s such a brilliant, beautiful, unifying thing. It goes way beyond entertainment. It’s a spiritual thing as well.”

Lana Del Rey’s song was rejected for the theme song for Bond movie Spectre

OHMYGOSSIP — Lana Del Rey has revealed her song was rejected for the James Bond theme for ‘Spectre’.
The ‘Video Games’ hitmaker has revealed she penned her track ’24’ from her 2015 LP ‘Honeymoon’ for the Daniel Craig flick, but they ultimately went with Sam Smith’s ‘Writing’s On The Wall’.
Asked by the BBC at The Ivors 2024 in London on Thursday (23.05.24) why she hasn’t done a Bond theme yet, she spilled: “I mean, how has that not happened?”
Speaking of the song she offered, she simply said: “I wrote that for them.”
The ‘Cinnamon Girl’ singer joked that she often does “my little Nancy Sinatra thing every now and then and just pretend it’s the title track.”
Lana was bestowed with the Special International Award prize at the star-studded ceremony.
Reacting to the snub, RAYE – who won Songwriter of the Year with Amazon Music – said of Lana: “She just has the perfect energy for it.
“I feel like she would eat that up – and I feel like that should happen in the future.”
During the ceremony in London, Bruce Springsteen was honoured with the Academy Fellowship, the first American artist to receive the accolade.
The Boss, 74, was introduced by Sir Paul McCartney, who affectionately mocked the award-winning star.
McCartney, 81, said that he “couldn’t think of a more fitting” recipient “except maybe Bob Dylan”.
He added: “Or Paul Simon, or Billy Joel, or Beyonce, or Taylor Swift … The list goes on.”
The former Beatle also joked about Springsteen’s reputation for being a “working man”.
He said: “He’s known as the American working man, but he admits he’s never worked a day in his life.”
Springsteen is actually the first foreigner to receive an Academy Fellowship, and he previously confessed to feeling honoured by the recognition.
The music icon added: “This entire country has made me feel welcome every step of the way, and for this, I will always remain deeply appreciative.”

Lady Gaga working on seventh studio album

OHMYGOSSIP — Lady Gaga is working on her seventh studio album.
The 38-year-old singer and actress revealed she has been hard at work in the studio and is excited about her new music.
According to Variety, she said, at a Q A for her new movie ‘Gaga Chromatica Ball’: “I have written so many songs and I have produced so many songs. It’s nothing like anything that I’ve ever made before. There’s something really beautiful about knowing that you will be loved no matter what you do.”
Gaga also revealed she actually had COVID during five performances of her ‘Chromatica Ball’ tour.
She said: “I shared it with everyone on my team. And I said, ‘I don’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable at work, and you don’t have to perform and you don’t have to work that day’. I just didn’t want to let all the fans down. The way that I saw it also is like the fans are all putting themselves in harm’s way every day coming to the show.
“This was such a special time. This tour went on during a time that people didn’t think that you could. The stadiums were packed all, they were sold out and [people were] all dressed up, dancing and singing.
“This industry can feel very isolating sometimes, but I never feel alone when I’m with my fans.”
Gaga revealed last year that she had been working on the film, writing on X: “I spent countless hours in the editing room bringing my vision for this film to life. It is my gift to you – directed, produced and created by me, alongside some of the most talented, creative people in the world.”

KT Tunstall ‘completely surprised’ by Azealia Banks compliment

OHMYGOSSIP — KT Tunstall was “completely surprised” when Azealia Banks urged Beyonce to collaborate with her on ‘Cowboy Carter’.
The Scottish singer/songwriter admitted she was shocked that Azealia even knew who she was and was surprised to get a compliment from the rapper because “Azealia doesn’t say nice stuff about people that often”.
She told NME: “I was just really thrilled, because Azealia doesn’t say nice stuff about people that often. I was completely surprised by it. I love that she was aware of me. I’m not as mainstream as a lot of other stuff, but ‘Suddenly I See’ was obviously a huge hit and everything. It was a huge compliment.
“I do the odd DJ set and ‘212’ is an absolute must, every time. She’s a hugely talented girl. She takes on the world on a daily basis.”
However, when asked if Beyonce has taken Azealia’s advice and asked her for a collaboration, KT admitted there has been no contact.
She quipped: “I can’t stop the phone ringing. I’ve had to put it on silent. So, no.”
While KT has always enjoyed Azealia’s music, she revealed she is also a “big fan” of Maggie Rogers.
She said: “I’m a big fan of Maggie Rogers from the States – she’s just a total nerd. She studies the best, she’s got an amazing brain in her head as well as an amazing heart in her chest. I love Shura, and I know that she’s working on something new.
“I love what John Lennon said: ‘It’s not our job to tell people how to feel, it’s our job to tell people how we feel’. That’s the crux of it. You’ve just got to try and be as honest and authentic as you can with your songwriting, rather than writing to please anyone else.”

Gareth Dunlop calls for fans to support smaller venues

OHMYGOSSIP — Gareth Dunlop has urged people to support their local music venues.
The ‘Go Down Swinging’ singer is aware many have been put off seeing live acts because of the high price of tickets, but he’s insisted there are just as entertaining nights to be had at small independent venues as at big stadium shows.
He said: “We’re in a cost of living crisis – being able to check out some live music in your local venue shouldn’t cost more than weekly food shop.
“It takes a village to run the bigger shows and stadium tours – and the ticket price usually reflects that – but there are so many incredible grassroot venues up and down the UK and Ireland putting on great and affordable nights out with a chance to step away from the grind and see some killer live music for the cost of a few of pints.
“That’s the scene that intrigues me the most… a local venue stuffed with curious music lovers who aren’t in the red to be there.”
Gareth himself has fond memories of making friends with other music fans at such gigs when he was growing up, and drew inspiration for the artists he saw – something he hopes he can also do for his audiences.
He added: “Growing up in Belfast, I got the chance the see and discover so much live music at grassroot venues…I saw Steve Earl in a packed upstairs bar…I was a few feet away from John Martyn playing an 80 capacity club.
“I made life long connections with people who shared my same passion – and I got inspired by what I heard coming off the stage.
If somebody can get any of those things from a night out at one my shows – I’ll be a happy man. Mission accomplished.
Gareth is heading out on tour next month, visit https://www.garethdunlop.com/liveshows for dates.

Becky Hills wants more women to headline Ibiza

OHMYGOSSIP — Becky Hill has called for more women to get to headline Ibiza.
The BRIT Award winning artist has urged the dance capital of the world to diversify its lineups and even billboards, as she claimed men are still dominating the scene.
She told Music Week magazine: “You land [at the airport] and all you see are men’s faces on billboards.
“That’s when I realise how far we’ve got to go with music.
“We don’t have a situation in the superclubs like Hi or Amnesia where a woman is doing a headline residency.”
The 30-year-old singer may have been running her own parties in Ibiza over the last few years, but she pointed out there is more to be done.
She added: “I won’t stop until I’m stood shoulder to shoulder with Calvin Harris, David Guetta and Tiesto in Ushuaia in Ibiza.
“This is a goal I’ve had for a couple of years now.”
Becky is set to release her new album ‘Believe Me Now?’ this month, and her love of dance music plays a key roll as she gets “some cool points back” with the collection.
She explained: “It’s not that I don’t like my own music.
“But I’m very immersed in dance culture and I wanted to have a new body of work that didn’t isolate the commercial by any means, but fitted a little better in the dance world.
“The new album is still great pop songs, but it’s teamed up with a weightier, purer production.”
She has collaborated with the likes of Chase and Status and Self Esteem on the record, and she hopes the LP can continue her journey to world domination after already finding huge success in the UK.
She said: “It feels like I’ve achieved breaking the UK, which is what I’ve always wanted to do.
“It took me 12 years and now I feel like I’m onto the rest of the world.”

‘For my last trick!’ Eminem hints he will drop new music in May

OHMYGOSSIP — Eminem has dropped a huge hint he will release new music as early as this month.
The 51-year-old rapper took to Instagram to share a video of a text message conversation, which is dated Friday May 31st, 12:00AM.
The message is addressed to “all contacts”, and it reads: “…and for my last trick!”
Fans have speculated this means Eminem will drop new music on May 31st, which many believing a new single could be released before the month is out.
It’s also thought Eminem’s “last trick” message is a yet another nod to the upcoming album being the last for his alter-ego Slim Shady.
Last month, the rap icon revealed his forthcoming record is titled ‘The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)’, and will drop in the summer.
Eminem shared the news as he appeared at the 2024 NFL Draft in his home city of Detroit, Michigan, on April 25th.
Shady appeared with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell as they kicked off the Annual Player Selection Meeting.
A trailer circulated of a fake reporter announcing the death of Eminem’s alter ego Slim Shady.
They said: “Through his complex and often-criticised, tongue-twisting rhymes, the blonde anti-hero known as Slim Shady has had no shortage of enemies.”
His rap peer, 50 Cent, said: “He’s not a friend, he’s a psychopath.”
The reporter continued: “The same rude lyrics and controversial antics may have ultimately led to his demise. Join me as we recreate the events that led to the murder of Slim Shady.”
Eminem – whose last album was 2020’s ‘Music to Be Murdered By’ – shared the clip on Instagram along with the album’s title and summer 2024 release window.
In March, Dr. Dre confirmed he has songs on Eminem’s upcoming album.
Speaking on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’, he said: “Let me explain something to you right now.
“Eminem is working on his own album which is coming out this year and I actually talked to him and he said it was OK for me to make that announcement right here on this show.
“I’ve got songs on it and it’s fire. I’m actually going to hear the entire album for the first time tomorrow.
“He holds his music close to his chest, so I haven’t heard everything. I haven’t even heard everything complete that I’ve done, but I’m gonna hear it, and he’s putting out an album this year.”

Oasis set off reunion rumours once more as cryptic video is posted

OHMYGOSSIP — Oasis have sparked rumours of a reunion or an anniversary edition of ‘Definitely Maybe’.
The defunct Britpop group’s Instagram account posted a video of what looks like Sawmills Studio in Cornwall, where they recorded tracks for their iconic album ‘Definitely Maybe’, which is turning 30 on August 30.
And it has led to fans predicting a reunion is on the cards or more likely that it’s something to do with the milestone.
The cryptic clip was left without a caption sending the rumour mill wild.
Former frontman Liam Gallagher – who has been at loggerheads with his brother, the group’s guitarist and chief songwriter, Noel Gallagher, since a backstage bust-up between the pair at their final concert in Paris in 2009 – is already embarking on a sold-out ‘Definitely Maybe’ 30th anniversary tour, which kicks off next month.
Liam said his estranged brother turned down his offer to reunite with him on the jaunt.
When a fan asked if Noel would be taking part, Liam replied: “He’s been asked and he’s refused.”
As he has at many of his solo shows, the 51-year-old rock ‘n’ roll star will be joined by Oasis guitarist Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs, 58, for the arena run.
The tour starts in Sheffield on June 2 and includes dates in London, Cardiff, Glasgow, and Dublin.
The ‘Supersonic’ hitmaker said: “I’m bouncing around the house to announce the ‘Definitely Maybe’ Tour.
“The most important album of the ‘90s bar none. I wouldn’t be anywhere without it, and neither would you, so let’s celebrate together LG x.”
As well as performing hits including ‘Live Forever’, Cigarettes and Alcohol’ and ‘Supersonic’, he’ll sing fan-favourites ‘Whatever’, ‘Fade Away’, ‘Listen Up’ and ‘Sad Song’.
Meanwhile, Noel, 56, recently hinted he would be keen to have an Oasis hologram show after being impressed by ABBA’s lucrative ‘ABBA Voyage’ extravaganza.
