Glastonbury nearly shut down

OHMYGOSSIP — Glastonbury festival very nearly shut down.
Emily Eavis – who organises the world-famous music festival with her father, Sir Michael Eavis, who opened the event on his Somerset farm in 1970 – has revealed there were several occasions in the 90s’ when her father wanted to pull the plug.
Emily told the BBC’s ‘Sidetracked’ podcast.: “My parents were always like, ‘This is the last one’.
“Everyone thought it was some sort of stunt to sell tickets, but it wasn’t. They were genuinely like, ‘Well, we probably won’t do another.’”
It was the death of Emily’s mother, Jean, in 1999, that changed his mind.
Emily – whose husband Nick gets involved with the mammoth task of organising the festival – added: “My dad was like, ‘Oh, I think I might need the festival now’.
“Because they were going to retire and go on long cruises and things like that.
“My dad was like, ‘Listen, let’s keep it going.’
“I was like, ‘Yeah, I’ll help you’. Never did I think I’d still be here a few decades on.”
The festival will take its fallow year off in 2026.
Emily said: “The fallow year is important because it gives the land a rest, and it gives the cows a chance to stay out for longer and reclaim their land.
“And I think it’s quite good not to be seen to be cashing in.”
This year’s festival will, for the first time, see two female stars headline in Dua Lipa and SZA, who are joined by Coldplay.
Shania Twain is playing the Sunday afternoon legends slot.
Emily previously vowed to address the lack of female artists at Glastonbury, especially in the top slots, after there was a backlash over Guns N’ Roses, Arctic Monkeys and Sir Elton John closing out the Pyramid Stage in 2023, whilst Lizzo performed before Axl Rose and co.
She told Glamour magazine: “I think everyone knows that we’re trying harder than most, certainly extremely hard to address (the gender balance of acts), and I’ve been very vocal about it.
“I’m trying my best and, believe me, it’s a real, passionate subject of mine. I’ve been trying to raise the flag around gender and festivals for a long time. But we can only do so much.
“I just do what I think is right. Because I don’t have an agenda, I’m just trying to do the best thing for the festival and make it as fair and equal and brilliant as possible.”
Glastonbury takes place between June 26 to June 30 at Worthy Farm.

Lainey Wilson gushes over Jon Bon Jovi after he sent her letter

OHMYGOSSIP — Lainey Wilson has confirmed Jon Bon Jovi sent her a letter praising her talents.
During an interview between the Bon Jovi frontman, 62, and country star Jelly Roll, 39, the ‘It’s My Life’ hitmaker hailed the 32-year-old singer “the greatest thing ever”.
In the chat for Interview magazine, Jelly replied: “Ever. Voice, work ethic, human, checks every box.”
And Jovi continued: “Not only was she awesome at MusiCares, but then I saw her perform at Clive [Davis]’s thing, where she came out with you and did ‘Save Me’. Both of you played for a different audience that fell in love with you that weekend and went, ‘Holy f***, look at this talent.'”
And speaking to ‘Entertainment Tonight’, Lainey said: “That’s pretty cool!
“And he did write me a little letter! And he put his phone number on there. I was like, ‘Now this might be one of the coolest moments I’ve had.'”
The pair have talked over text message.
She gushed: “My goodness, I mean he has lifted me up and encouraged me, and that’s one that you write home about, for sure.”
Elsewhere, Lainey shared some of the sage advice her ‘Go Home W U’ collaborator, Keith Urban, 56, has given her.
She said: “Keith has given me some of the best advice.
“It was this one day, I was so tired, I had just come off the road or something, and I ran into him on music row, and he said, ‘Remember Lainey, no whining on the yacht.’
“I wrote that one down.
“I was like, ‘I like that!’ It’s true, you know? Like, at the end of the day, we can be tired and run in the mud, but we get to get up and do what we love to do every single day.”

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss release Led Zeppelin cover

OHMYGOSSIP — Robert Plant and Alison Krauss have released their live version of Led Zeppelin classic ‘When The Levee Breaks’.
The legendary group’s frontman, 75, and his 52-year-old Americana duets partner have put out two collaborative albums together – 2007’s ‘Raising Sand’ and 2021’s ‘Raise the Roof’ – to date, and they have now made the live version of the re-worked country blues song by the English rock group, which became the last song on their 1971 untitled fourth album, available on streaming services.
Plant and Krauss perform the song at their live shows, and they are accompanied by guitarist JD McPherson, drummer Jay Bellerose, bassist Dennis Crouch, string player Stuart Duncan and multi-instrumentalist Viktor Krauss.
Plant used many of the original lyrics and the songwriting is credited to Memphis Minnie and the individual members of Led Zeppelin.
Late drummer John Bonham’s drumbeat is one of the most used samples in popular music, having been used on tracks by Eminem and Dr. Dre, Mike Oldfield, and Sophie B. Hawkins.
It’s not the only Zeppelin track to make it into the pair’s live sets, with them having performed the likes of ‘The Battle Of Evermore’, ‘Rock And Roll’, and ‘Gallows Pole’.
Meanwhile, Plant recently admitted it was “cathartic” performing Zeppelin classic ‘Stairway To Heaven’ again.
The rock icon jumped onstage in October at a charity concert for The Cancer Platform at Soho Farmhouse in Oxfordshire, which was hosted by Duran Duran’s Andy Taylor, who underwent treatment for stage 4 prostate cancer.
Before then, the last time he performed the 1971 hit was when the band performed at The O2 in London in 2007.
He told Rolling Stone: “It was cathartic. People go, ‘Oh, that’s good. He never was going to do that.’ But I didn’t really do it! I just blurted it out. ‘Cause it’s such an important song to me for where I was at the time and where I was with Jimmy [Page] and with John [Paul Jones] and Bonzo [John Bonham]. So on that night, it was what it was. It was a trial by fire, but I felt better at the end than at the beginning.”
Asked about it potentially being his last performance of the song, he said: “Yeah, I think you’re probably right. I haven’t got around to doing the ice-skating rinks in Finland yet with a small orchestra. [Laughs] So I don’t think I’ll be doing that, but I don’t know. Who knows? Something could change somewhere. Spirit and heart could come back in the soul. It’s a long song. Who can remember all those words?”

Metallica legend James Hetfield still has ‘nightmares’ before going on tour

OHMYGOSSIP — James Hetfield still has “nightmares” before going on tour with Metallica.
The 60-year-old singer – who has been part of the ‘Enter Sandman’ heavy metal legends since the group’s formation in 1981 – admitted that even now, he can “doubt himself” before going back on the road.
Speaking on ‘The Metallica Report’ podcast, he said: “Obviously before heading out on tour, sitting there trying to remember the myriad of pretty awesome songs we have and then just trusting that once we get together, it’s like, oh yeah, it’s muscle memory.
“But yeah, over the last month, I will say that the normal thing happens where I start to doubt myself.
“I start to feel insecure that, whoa, we’re old, we can’t do this and blah blah blah – all that bulls*** that everyone tells themselves before they go into something that they care about and is important.
“So having the nightmares of, you know, I’m the only one who cares about what we’re doing here. You know, where is everybody?”
Hetfield – who is part of the group with Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo – has strange dreams in the lead up to tours, where everything is going wrong.
He revealed: “I show up at the gig, everyone’s goofing off or there’s 200 people backstage and where’s my stuff? You know, where’s the setlist? What songs are we doing?
“And then typical things like, the guitar neck is made of rubber and there’s only two strings on it and where’s my roadie? And the guitar cord won’t let me get to the microphone. Silly stuff like that.”
However, he has learned to let these anxious periods “happen”, rather than “freaking out over it”.
He added: “All you do is you practice and then you build – that comes back pretty quickly. It’s part of the cycle. It just is.
“You have anxiety build up, but don’t let it get the best of you because you have that balance of anxiety and faith. And as soon as you get up there, it’s all gonna be good.”

Rita Ora won’t rush her new album

OHMYGOSSIP — Rita Ora is taking her new album “one song at a time”.
The 33-year-old singer has been busy working on the follow-up to 2023’s record ‘You And I’ – which was her third studio album to date and peaked at number six in the UK album chart – but she suggested fans could be waiting a little while to hear the new collection.
She told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “The album is going really well. I’m taking it just one song at a time to be honest.
“I’m not sure it will be ready for this year though. But the great thing about my label [BMG] is that I have the time and they are really chill like that.”
She has still been treating fans to new material, having recently dropped her single ‘Ask And You Shall Receive’.
Her latest album, ‘You And I’, was heavily inspired by her relationship with Hollywood star Taika Waititi – and their 2022 wedding.
However, she wants to move on from that as her source of inspiration, and instead find a different spark for her music.
She explained: “I’m a bit bored of that now [as inspiration].
“I want my music to move on, have fun and do what makes me feel good.
“If it doesn’t make me feel good, I’m not doing it, and I’ve found that very liberating.”
‘Ask And You Shall Receive’ was co-written by Raye, and Rita recently described the track as a “full circle moment”.
She said: “The song is full of upbeat, summery vibes and is about seizing the moment romantically, and diving straight in with that special someone.
“It was co-written by the amazing Raye, which feels like such a full circle moment, as I have so many amazing memories from when we were on the road together for the Phoenix tour.”
Rita’s new music video was shot in a 24-hour laundromat in Los Angeles, and the concept was inspired by the iconic 1985 Levis commercial starring Nick Kamen.

Billy Corgan won’t give in to fan pressure and play The Smashing Pumpkins’ greatest hits

OHMYGOSSIP — Billy Corgan refuses to succumb to fan pressure by playing the Smashing Pumpkins’ greatest hits at their gigs.
The 47-year-old musician – who fronts the rock band and plays alongside guitarist James Iha, 56, and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, 59 – insists that the group doesn’t need to appease fans with their tracklist because he thinks doing so is “kind of cheese”.
During an interview with Kerrang, he said: “I don’t play any songs I don’t want to play. I don’t care if they’re a classic or not.
“If I don’t want to play it, I just don’t play it. I don’t put that on the audience like, ‘Well, I’ve got to play this one for you.’ I think that’s kind of cheese.”
The ‘Mayonnaise’ hitmaker added the band wanted to pique concert-goers’ curiosity by playing their lesser-known songs.
He explained: “Here’s the best way I would say it: the best show for me would be, you’re a fan that really is mostly focused on the older music.
“You come and you hear those songs you think, ‘Wow, those sound great, band sounds great. The voice is still there.’ You feel good about your decision to come to the show.
“But then you might hear five, six, seven other songs, and you find yourself going, ‘I don’t know this one,’ so you look up one, and go, ‘Oh, that was a deep cut from 1996. I didn’t know that one. It was some B-side. That’s interesting.’
“And then someone making the same discovery about your new stuff, but thinking it was old. I’m not talking about causing confusion. I’m talking about having the person be curious about that.”
Billy stressed that music stars can’t “live in the past” by only performing their greatest hits and added that doing so would lead to the “death of any artist”.
He said: “It comes from a good thing, which is that people really love your music, you know what I mean? It’s not a bad thing that they want to hear songs that they love. But you can’t live in the past. It’s the death of any artist.”

Charli XCX chose not to chase chart success with her new album

OHMYGOSSIP — Charli XCX decided not to chase the charts with her new album ‘Brat’.
The 31-year-old singer is gearing up to release her latest L.P. – which will be available on Friday (07.06.24) – and explained that she wanted to stay “true to [her]self” with the album by not tailoring her tracks to become chart-toppers.
During an interview with British GQ, she said: “I’m constantly going back and forth in my conflict around fame and what constitutes success.
“This new music is not going to be played in Starbucks. It’s not going to be played on the Zen Morning playlist.
“It’s pop music and I’m being true to myself.
“But I also know that if I chose a slightly different, maybe more palatable path, I do have the skills as a songwriter to write big Top 40 pop hits.”
The ‘I Love It’ hitmaker added that her fans would know she was being “inauthentic” if she focused on commercial success.
She said: “Sometimes I tempt myself with going there, but I think the problem is my fanbase knows that that’s not who I am, so they kind of smell a rat, and they’re like, ‘This is inauthentic.’
“But I think that sometimes puts me in this position where the masses are like, ‘What the f*** is this?’”
Charli also knows that reaching the top of the charts would not bring her any happiness.
She explained: “I would in no way be as happy, creatively satisfied or, honestly, as good as some of the people who are operating on a hugely commercial level, because maybe I’m just not built for it.”
The ‘Hot Girl’ singer then hit back at the idea modern pop music had to be “full of poetic metaphors” to be authentic, and instead insisted the genre had to be “conversational” – something she wanted to achieve with ‘Brat’.
She said: “We’re in this place where people thought pop music needed to be big and full of poetic metaphors to give it some kind of authenticity, which I don’t think is true at all.
“I wanted to create this world of that 2000’s flip phone, cameras flashing, live fast, die young.
“I wanted my lyrics to be conversational because that’s what I think pop culture actually is: it’s a 15-second TikTok, a selfie in a cloud, a text to your friends being like ‘Where you at, b****?’”
The ‘Heroes Issue’ of British GQ is available via digital download and on newsstands on 11th June.

Morrissey to perform in Las Vegas now he is in ‘good health’

OHMYGOSSIP — Morrissey has announced a two-night run in Las Vegas next month.
The former Smiths frontman was forced to cancel a number of U.S. tour dates in January due to “physical exhaustion”, but the musician has announced he will be performing a pair of concerts at Las Vegas’ House of Blues on 26 and 27 July now he is in “good health”.
Taking to Instagram, he wrote: “Despite recent fiascoes, I will indeed be fully present in blood-soaked flesh at the House of Blues in Las Vegas on July 26 (Friday) and 27 (Saturday).
“Having hung upside down for several months, I am now in good health – like an arrow fully drawn and waiting to be fired: please fling me.”
The 65-year-old singer continued: “Life begins again with full accompaniment from Jesse Tobias (guitar), Carmen Vandenberg (guitar), Camila Grey (keyboards), Solomon Walker (bass), and Matthew Walker (drums.)
“Expect a night of thrust and parry – no-show tunes.
“If you can find a decent pair of shoes, by all means come along. There is nothing quite like physical proximity, I am assured. If you would rather not come, then you are obviously one-half of a twin pair of parakeets.
“Some people sing, some poison the air. But if life is meaningless then why was there not always nothing?”
The ‘Suedehead’ hitmaker added that “good news was finally within our grasp” regarding his long-delayed album ‘Bonfire of Teenagers’, which he had struggled to release due to a dispute with his former label Capitol Records.
Morrissey had hoped to launch the L.P. a year ago but the project got derailed after he left his label and management company in 2022.
He concluded: “Hopefully, I will smell you in Vegas – where the audiences always stay the same age … are you in the mood?
“At large — Morrissey (sic).”

Keanu Reeves’ rock band Dogstar announces US summer tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Dogstar have announced their U.S. ’Summer Vacation Tour 2024’.
The rock band – which consists of bassist Keanu Reeves, guitarist and vocalist Bret Domrose and drummer Rob Mailhouse – are currently touring across Europe, and the group have now revealed American fans will also get the chance to see them on stage from August.
In a statement, the band said: “We are having the best time out here on the road interacting with fans at these shows, we wanted to keep it going!
“For this next U.S. run starting in August, we will be planning to try out some new songs as well. Hope to see you out there!”
Rob also took to Instagram to share the band’s excitement.
Commenting beneath Dogstar’s announcement post, he wrote: “We can’t wait to see everyone! Thank you all for all the love and support.
“We can feel it every time we take the stage.”
After a 23-year hiatus, Dogstar returned last October to release their album ‘Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees’, and Keanu teased the L.P. was just the beginning.
Speaking to Variety Music, the ‘John Wick’ actor said: “We want to make another record. We wanna get in the studio, we wanna tour, we wanna play, we wanna travel, we wanna have great shows and have people have a really good time.”
Bret added their new music was different to that of their previous work because the subject matter was “a little lighter”.
He explained: “I think this is a little lighter maybe than some of the last albums, subject-matter-wise.
“I think we’re 20 years older, and a lot of life has been lived since the last time we made a record, and it was a nice surprise to see that this is what came out of us.
“You know, it turns out we’re not as depressed as we used to be. Not every song is summery and happy, but … I hate to say it, but it’s fun.”
‘The Matrix’ star agreed and said: “I would say it’s definitely representative of Dogstar today and not a comp with the Dogstar of the past. I think it’s developed, as Bret said, just who we are now.”

Jelly Roll struggling to book international tour due to past felonies

OHMYGOSSIP — Jelly Roll is having legal issues booking his first international tour.
The ‘Need A Favor’ hitmaker – who has been open about his previous problems with the law – has been in jail several times on drug charges with his first arrest at 14 years old, and now a number of countries won’t let him in because of his past.
Speaking to Jon Bon Jovi for Interview Magazine, he said: “We’re figuring out the final pieces of some legal puzzles for me to get overseas.”
And while he’s now able to leave the US and has his own passport, the 39-year-old musician is still facing a struggle.
He explained: “It’s funny, America has finally agreed to let me leave and give me a passport, but some countries won’t let me come because of my felonies.
“We’re working on that. I think it’s going to work in my favour.”
When he was 16, the star was arrested for aggravated robbery, and served over a year in prison with seven years’ probation after being charged as an adult.
He previously told Billboard: “I never want to overlook the fact that it was a heinous crime.
“This is a grown man looking back at a 16-year-old kid that made the worst decision that he could have made in life and people could have got hurt and, by the grace of God, thankfully, nobody did.”
The ‘Son of a Sinner’ singer – who has also found success with his Lainey Wilson collaboration ‘Save Me’ revealed how the birth of his daughter Bailee in 2008 was the inspiration he needed to change, as he received the news when he was in jail for drug dealing aged 23.
He recalled: “May 22, 2008. A guard knocks on my cell door midafternoon during lockdown. He goes, ‘You had a kid today.’
“I’ve never had nothing in life that urged me in the moment to know that I had to do something different. I have to figure this out right now.”

Normani feels inspired by Brandy and Janet Jackson

OHMYGOSSIP — Normani has been inspired by Brandy and Janet Jackson.
The 28-year-old singer is set to release her long-awaited debut solo album, ‘Dopamine’, later this month, and Normani has cited Brandy, 45 – who features on the record – and Janet as two of her biggest inspirations.
She told Rolling Stone magazine: “I naturally gravitate to darker-sounding things from a sonic perspective, something that feels like it has bite and grit and edginess to it.
“I always just like being left of centre. At one point, I was like, ‘Listen, everything can’t sound dark. We want to take everybody on a ride. We need to add some colour.’ I love Missy Elliott so much, Timbaland’s production.
“I like unique things that haven’t necessarily really been heard, so that’s also why production is my favourite part of the process.”
Normani hailed Brandy and Janet for being “disruptive” forces in the music business.
She explained: “They’re literally the reason why I do what I do and why I’m able to be in the position that I am in … They redefined the standard of beauty, but also the standard in music.
“I feel like Brandy and Janet have really been disruptive in their own ways. I love the album ‘Discipline’ by Janet.”
Meanwhile, Normani recently hailed Beyonce as a “revolutionary” force in country music.
The former Fifth Harmony star praised Beyonce’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ album and her successful move into the country genre.
She told ELLE.com: “Having Beyonce, a black woman in music, taking over the country space is revolutionary. Those are the types of things that I set out to do.
“Now you have country artists who look like us coming out and just being like, ‘We’ve always been here.’ I think that it’s educational not only for music lovers, but also in the black community. We’ve pioneered a lot that we don’t get recognition for.
“I think that it’s just really cool being able to witness Beyonce be fearless and do something that is much bigger than herself.”

Tyla says Britney Spears comparisons are ‘getting boring now’

OHMYGOSSIP — Tyla thinks the Britney Spears comparisons are “getting boring now”.
When the 22-year-old singer released the music video for her track ‘Water’ last October fans were quick to point out the racy visuals were similar to Britney’s iconic ‘I’m A Slave 4 U’ promo from 2001.
Tyla didn’t appreciate the comparison then and she’s now getting frustrated with the continued references to Britney when people discuss her.
During an interview with Dazed, she said: “Honestly, when people bring up these references, most of the time there was never a reference.
“It’s never, ‘Make the video look completely like this.’ It’s getting boring now.”
The ‘Overdue’ hitmaker emphasised she and her team try to innovate with her music videos, and added she likes to surround herself with people who have “new and fresh ideas”.
She said: “We have so many cool things of this time, new creatives. I just love working with people who have new and fresh ideas.”
Tyla then highlighted the choreography is rarely pre-planned, and is instead simply a group of “random people” expressing themselves “in the moment”.
She explained: “Even the dances that we come up with, it’s literally random people who just did something they felt in the moment which just caught on and now the world is doing it.”
In March, the ‘Jump’ singer released her debut studio album ‘Tyla’, which included contributions from the likes of Travis Scott, Becky G, Gunna, Tems and Skillibeng.
After releasing the Grammy-winning LP, Tyla had planned to go on tour, though was forced to put those plans on hold when she suffered an undisclosed injury.
The South African artist insisted she was in no hurry to hit the road, and added she felt she needs to “take [her] time” to ensure she fully recovers.
She said: “I’m still listening to my body.”
“I think I need to take my time, not rush. I want to give people art and good performances, but I need to listen to my body and what I need.”

Bruce Springsteen pays tribute to fans following who missed his cancelled shows

OHMYGOSSIP — Bruce Springsteen has paid tribute to fans who partied without him on the days of his cancelled shows.
The 74-year-old singer was told to rest his voice after he contracted a virus and his diagnosis forced him to call off concerts in Marseille, Prague and Milan
In place of the gigs, fans staged their own informal events and sang along to some of Bruce’s classic tracks, which touched the musician.
In a video posted to Instagram, he said: “It’s Bruce Springsteen, calling from the wild lands of New Jersey, where I’m just getting over my vocal bug.
“I have to apologize again for missing those concerts. But more importantly than that, I have to thank our incredible fans in the cities of Marseilles and Milan and Prague for their beautiful serenading when we weren’t feeling so good.
“It was really touching, deeply emotional, and it’s something I won’t forget. We will be back and we will give you the show of your lives. Thank you very much!”
The ‘Dancing in the Dark’ singer had been touring with the E Street Band, though announced on 25 May the three shows would have to be cancelled due to his “vocal issues”.
Even so, Bruce vowed he would give fans “the show of [their] lives” once he had made a full-recovery.
He said in an Instagram video: “Hey, this is Bruce Springsteen. I’m in Marseille. Unfortunately, I could not sing for you but we will be back to Marseille, to Prague and to Milan to give you the show of your life. That I promise you.”

‘Thanks a million Taylor Swift…’ Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong praises Eras Tour concert

OHMYGOSSIP — Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has heaped praise on Taylor Swift after attending one of her ‘Eras Tour’ shows.
The 52-year-old singer was an attendee at Taylor’s concert at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais stadium this past week and logged on to social media to share the amazing experience with his followers.
On Instagram, the artist posted a photo of himself at the concert and added the caption: “Just saw Taylor Swift eras tour in Lyon France!! Great production. Great voice. Great entertainer. Great songwriting. Crazy crowd.
“People even shared with me some friendship bracelets. Thanks a million @taylorswift (sic).”
This comes just before Taylor embarks on the UK leg of her tour, which kicks off on Friday (07.06.24) in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Billie’s post follows the rave review Taylor’s boyfriend Travis Kelce gave her ‘Eras Tour’ show.
The NFL star – who plays for the Kansas City Cheifs – attended the Paris concert on 12 May and described it as “absolutely unbelievable”.
Speaking to his brother Jason Kelce on their ‘New Heights’ podcast, he said: “It was fun, it was a blast. I had a blast at Tay’s show. Her new rendition of the ‘Eras Tour’, I suggest everybody go see it. It has her new ‘Tortured Poets Department’, a handful of those songs in the new show, which means there’s a new segment and new lights and new dancing, new everything to the show. I suggest everybody get out there … It is absolutely unbelievable.”
Travis had attended previous concerts in ‘The Eras Tour’, but believes the European leg is “better” than those that have come before.
He said: “It was an all-around lovely night. I’ll tell you what, Kansas City showed out, Argentina was unbelievable, Australia, they party with the best of them and they celebrate with the best of them. Those three were unbelievable.
“Singapore was so unique and so fun and then Paris was just on a whole other level, man. I’m just happy for everybody that’s in the ‘Eras Tour’ that’s performing, from the dancers to the band and, obviously, Taylor.
“It just looks like they’re having so much fun out there, and they’re absolutely killing it. They’re putting on a show that you won’t get anywhere else.”

Jojo Siwa doesn’t write her own songs

OHMYGOSSIP — Jojo Siwa doesn’t write her own songs.
The 21-year-old former child star confessed that she has a team of songwriters who pen her tracks for her but insisted that she then makes the songs her own.
She said on TikTok: “I don’t WRITE my songs. I SING them. I have an incredible team of songwriters that write songs and pitch them to me to see if [they] wanna make the song mine!!
“It’s kinda like when you buy clothes… you don’t “MAKE” it, but it’s yours after you buy it! They also ALWAYS get their credit and, of course, their check.
“I do enjoy the writing process, however for me as an artist that is not my specialty so I like to work with different songwriters to sing their lyrics, add a feeling to it, and ultimately bring the song to life!”
This comes after Jojo was accused of stealing the song ‘Karma’, which was reportedly originally recorded by Brit Smith.
She told TMZ: “Honestly, it’s an old song. I was pitched it. I loved it, was obsessed with it, so I grasped onto it.
“That’s a very normal thing… What happens is, people write songs and then they just don’t do anything with them. And then, a few years later, it makes more sense for another artist.
“I just knew that song was a special song, I knew it was a work of art, and I knew that it fit exactly the vision I wanted to create for the world.”
