Miley Cyrus needed ‘tough conversation’ with Dolly Parton to agree to Grammy Awards performance

OHMYGOSSIP — Dolly Parton persuaded Miley Cyrus to perform at the Grammy Awards.
The 31-year-old star sang her megahit ‘Flowers’ at this year’s ceremony, where she also picked up two awards, but she admitted she had been hesitant about accepting the offer to sing before a “tough conversation” with her famous godmother.
Speaking on ‘My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman’, she said: “A tough conversation I had with her: I told her, ‘I’m wondering if I’m going to do the Grammys or not.’
“And she said, ‘Well of course you’re going to do the Grammys, and you’re not just going to show up but you’re going to show off. And you’re going to be everything that you are sitting right here in front of me.’ ”
The ‘9 to 5’ hitmaker urged Miley to get on stage with her “armour” and to be herself.
She continued: “And she said, ‘And don’t forget about the beauty. The hair, the make-up, the whole show. It’s armour for us.’
“She’s always said this to me: ‘You do you, and I’ll do me, and together we’ll be us.’
“So she wasn’t telling me to be Dolly, she wasn’t telling me to be fabulous and hide behind the sparkles and the hair. She was telling me to be me.”
Dolly, 78, also played Miley’s godmother in ‘Hannah Montana’ and the ‘Nothing Breaks Like a Heart’ singer recalled how she “didn’t really know the difference” between herself and her TV alter ego as a teenager.
She said: “Parts of me are that character, including a little bit of my relationship with Dolly.”
And Miley drew comparisons between her character and the country legend.
She said: “I mean, Hannah Montana is famous for wearing a blonde wig and kind of having this other persona that she can turn off and be a regular girl by day and have this superstar life at night, and I realise that’s something that Dolly has been doing pretty much her entire life.
“Now, she’s always in the wig and she’s always in the Dolly. It’s not about the external performance of her creating the character.”

“These bands were hand selected by the band and we know it’s going to an incredibly special and memorable performance from all of these amazing bands.
“TWO STAGES.

“Thank you to all of the bands for being part of this historic gathering and finale of NOFX! (sic)”

“One thing I know in my heart … this is going to be the most emotional, heartbreaking, greatest tour of our career. I’ve never been so excited and at the same time terrified. Mostly excited…”

Lorde praises Charli XCX ahead of Brat release

OHMYGOSSIP — Lorde has heaped praise on Charli XCX’s “grit and grace”.
The ‘Green Light’ hitmaker gave a shout-out to her friend on Thursday (06.06.24), a day ahead of the release of her highly-anticipated new album ‘Brat’ and admitted it was an “honour” to have been left so “moved” by the record.
She wrote on her Instagram Story: ”Charli just cooked this one different.
“So much grit, grace and skin in the game. I speak for all of us when I say it’s an honour to be moved, changed and gagged by her work. There is NO ONE like this b****.
“Brava and welcome Brat.(sic)”
Charli recently explained she hasn’t tried to chase chart success with the record because she wanted to stay “true to [her]self”.
During an interview with British GQ, she said: “I’m constantly going back and forth in my conflict around fame and what constitutes success.
“This new music is not going to be played in Starbucks. It’s not going to be played on the Zen Morning playlist.
“It’s pop music and I’m being true to myself.
“But I also know that if I chose a slightly different, maybe more palatable path, I do have the skills as a songwriter to write big Top 40 pop hits.”
The ‘I Love It’ hitmaker added that her fans would know she was being “inauthentic” if she focused on commercial success.
She said: “Sometimes I tempt myself with going there, but I think the problem is my fanbase knows that that’s not who I am, so they kind of smell a rat, and they’re like, ‘This is inauthentic.’
“But I think that sometimes puts me in this position where the masses are like, ‘What the f*** is this?’”
Charli also knows that reaching the top of the charts would not bring her any happiness.
She explained: “I would in no way be as happy, creatively satisfied or, honestly, as good as some of the people who are operating on a hugely commercial level, because maybe I’m just not built for it.”

Jon Bon Jovi promises to ‘never become victim of music business’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jon Bon Jovi has vowed he will “never become a victim of the music business”.
The 62-year-old ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ singer – born John Francis Bongiovi Jr – has revealed he watched in horror as one of his musical heroes Elvis Presley was “misguided” by his manager before his death aged 42 in August 1977 from a heart attack after years of a high-fat diet and an addiction to prescription pills.
He told The Sun: “The late Sixties Elvis in black leather suit? He was the sexiest man alive.
“At the end of his life though, he was misguided by his manager. I would never become a victim of the music business.”
Jon’s focus on longevity means it’s apt his band’s 16th studio album is called ‘Forever’.
He said about the title and his group’s long-standing dedication: “I was just thinking that everybody has given so much for so long – 40 years.
“Who knows if we’ll be around for 50, let alone be making records? This was a good milestone to mark.”
Jon also opened up about how he thinks he has been the constant force that has kept his band together amid the highs of fame.
He said: “Some of the guys could go on a bender or some kind of trip, then wake up in the morning and say, ‘OK, cool, let’s go.’
“(Drummer) Tico (Torres) was not a good drunk. He was angry and he had to work through it.
“But, with a snap of his fingers, he gave up and hasn’t had a drink in well over 30 years.”
Jon added about how he has dodged the pitfalls of rock hedonism: “I simply did not have the mental fortitude for taking drugs.”
He said his focus on keeping his band together also ruined the highs of fame.
Jon added: “(Success was) confusing and not as pleasurable for me as it was for the guys in the band.
“For me, it was a case of, ‘How do I do this tomorrow night and the next night?’
“That took its toll on me emotionally. If there’s one thing I wish I could tell my younger self, it is, ‘Enjoy it more.’”

“With this song I want you to know that even though I’m not perfect, I try my hardest every day to be the best version of myself for you both. I’ll make mistakes along the way and some days you’ll be sick of your old man I’m sure, but dang we’ll have some fun too.”
The 34-year-old star – who has his children with wife Nicole Hocking – concluded: “I can’t wait to see what you both turn out to be like and I hope someday down the road I get to watch you and your kids do the same.

Speaking during an appearance on Absolute Country Radio, he said: “I would love to have them out as much as they want to be out, as much as they can be out. You know, I think that’s important. I don’t want to be a dad that’s not around or the dad that you see on TV and go, “Oh, that is my dad and that is where he is today, I guess,”‘ the star added. ‘Family is important to me. I’d like to be the guy throwing the football to them.”

Raye shares ‘deeply personal’ song Genesis

OHMYGOSSIP — Raye says her new single is “as raw as I could find myself to be.”
The ‘Ice Cream Man’ singer has shared the “deeply personal” seven-minute-long tune, ‘Genesis’, which she describes as “a prayer and a plea and a cry for help” in troubled times.
In a statement, she said: “There is a Nina Simone quote, ‘It is an artist’s duty to reflect the times.’ This quote is everything to me and I believe the best way I can try to do this is through my art and my music.
“There is so much darkness and pain in this world we live in, and I wanted to create something both as deeply personal and as raw as I could find myself to be about my own mind and the world I see around me.”
She added: “The song is a seven-minute piece that I have crafted and scrutinised over the last year and a half, experimenting with different genres and sonic expressions, beneath all the layers and the lyrics, the underlying message is ‘Let There Be Light’.
“It is a prayer and a plea and a cry for help, and I really hope this song will be able to bring some hope, the way this music does for me, to those who need it most.”
She sings: “They say the twenties are the best years of your life.
But I seem to be spending mine missing sunsets.
‘Cause I’m busy on my phone observing everyone else.
How I compare and obsess
Just me, my phone, and these walls.”
Some of the self-deprecating lyrics include: “And I’ve been sober for some months
But I can feel the demons waiting on my downfall.
Since I’m so ugly and irrelevant.”
‘Genesis’ is Raye’s first release since her breakthrough album, ‘My 21st Century Blues’.

Girls Aloud ‘didn’t know anything about the industry’ when they first started: ‘We were ourselves…’

OHMYGOSSIP — Girls Aloud “didn’t know anything” about the music industry” when they first started.
The girl band – which consists of Cheryl, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts, and Kimberley Walsh – were formed through the ITV1 reality show ‘Popstars: The Rivals’ in 2002 and went on to achieve massive success with five studio albums but claimed that their lack of experience to begin with meant they could be more “genuine” to fans.
Nadine told The Guardian’s Saturday Magazine: “We didn’t have a manager. We were a new band one day and we were No 1 the next week. It was like the horse had bolted through the gate before we really knew …
“We didn’t know anything about each other or the industry. We weren’t being like, ‘Yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir.’
“We were more ourselves, and it meant that we could be genuine. We didn’t conform to the pop princess image that everybody assumed we would conform to.”
The ‘Sound of the Underground’ hitmakers are just nearing the end of ‘The Girls Aloud Show’ tour – which is their first as a four-piece after Sarah Harding died of breast cancer in 2021 aged just 39 – and have just announced a free gig will take place at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London on July 2.
But Nadine was insistent that she “doesn’t care” if attitudes towards women in the music industry have changed since their heyday because they are just going to “do what they want” to do regardless.
She said: “I don’t care if they have or if they haven’t. We’re going to do what we want, and they can either like it or not. It’s up to them. People are always going to have a problem, it’s just not our problem”

Jon Bon Jovi is ‘not quite ready’ for touring but insists there is ‘light at the end of the tunnel’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jon Bon Jovi is “not quite” ready to tour again just yet.
The 62-year-old rock star – who opens up about his life and career in the upcoming Disney+ documentary ‘Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story’ – is still in vocal therapy after undergoing surgery in 2022 but has “set the bar” for himself and seems determined to get back on stage at some point.
Asked if he has any plans to ever hit the road again, he told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “I’m seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s been a long process — it’s been two years — and look, I’m not quite there yet.
“[It would be ] two and a half hours, four nights a week – this is the bar I set for myself… I don’t mess around when we go out.”
Despite this, the Bon Jovi frontman recently admitted that he felt “good” with the idea of quitting life on the road if he discovers things are not up to scratch with his vocal dexterity.
He told The Sunday Times: “It’s the parallel storyline, right? This is the first time I’m saying this. If the singing is not great, if I can’t be the guy I once was … then I’m done. And I’m good with that.
“There is a big difference between being in a studio and going out on the road. We have just recorded a new album. I sing in vocal therapy every day. But I want to perform for two and a half hours a night, four nights a week — and I know how good I can be, so if I can’t be that guy … put it this way, I don’t ever need to be the fat Elvis.”

I’m the Changingman! Paul Weller says going teetotal changed his life for the better

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Weller’s life has completely changed since he quit drinking.
The 66-year-old singer “definitely” classed himself as an alcoholic and while he didn’t opt for formal support from Alcoholics Anonymous, he is proud to have not relapsed in all that time.
Paul – who agreed to quit following an ultimatum from wife Hannah Andrews – told Big Issue magazine: “I stopped drinking 14 years ago – 1 Jul.
“Everything changed when I stopped drinking. It’s like night and day, it really is.
“First two years were hard.
“I didn’t have any relapses and I didn’t go to AA, though I would have done if I felt I needed to.”
The ‘Changingman’ hitmaker had told himself he needed to stop drinking “many times” over the years, but it took a “bigger force” inside him to quit booze for good.
He said: “It was something in my body that said, ‘You’ve got to stop now.’
“It was a bigger force than me just consciously saying, ‘I’ve got to stop’, which I’d said many times.
“It was a much stronger force than that.
“It brings so much more clarity to your thinking and your actions, how you view the world. I’m glad I’ve got to this point in my life.
“When you’re younger, you’re just a funny p*******. Then you cross a line at a certain age and you’re just another old drunk.
“It’s a hard thing to admit but once you do, it gets easier.”
The former Jam frontman has found “more spirituality” in his life as he’s got older, though he doesn’t follow a formal religion.
He said: “Faith to me is multifaceted. It’s got many faces. More spirituality has come into my life in recent years.
“Whether that’s an age thing or because I stopped drinking, however it works, it’s come to me.
“But I don’t particularly like any organised religions. If I picture it in my mind, it’s a big rock and sometimes you get further away from that rock and lose faith and then you come back to it and feel alright again. Whatever that is.
“I can find it in a lot of things. I find it in love. I find it in kindness, in music, because music unites the world, it’s strong and powerful. Lots of little things make me believe.
“What do I believe? I don’t know.
“When I say prayers, I’m not saying them to a Christian god or any other organised religion, I just praise and give thanks to this life and universe and why we’re here. Perhaps we haven’t got a purpose.
“If we’re lucky enough, while we’re here we get to enjoy it.”

Camila Cabello says songwriting will mature as she grows as a woman

OHMYGOSSIP — Camila Cabello is looking forward to writing “beautiful” songs about marriage and parenthood one day.
The ‘Havana’ hitmaker hailed penning her new album ‘C, XOXO’ as a “form of therapy” and while inspiration came from “questioning everything” and learning from her mistakes, she knows that will change with age and life experience.
She told Britain’s HELLO! magazine: “I’m 27 now but at some point, I’m going to be married with kids and I’ll probably write a beautiful folk song about that.
“But right now, I’m in the phase of experiencing and questioning everything I can.
“I want to make mistakes and learn because now is the time to do it, before the next phase comes along.
“At this age, you’re looking for answers about life, love, career, the next step.
“Live your questions – that’s a big theme of my album.”
The former Fifth Harmony singer admitted her new tracks have very different themes to her previous work because she has delved deep into her “complex” feelings.
She said: “I feel as though this album has a different perspective.
“Before, a lot of my songs were about going through something like a break-up but saying, ‘No problem. Life goes on. I’m happy.’
“This is more focused on feelings and how you can go through a break-up and still miss that person even though you shouldn’t.
“It is more complex and indefinite. This is a whole new territory for me.”
The ’He Knows’ singer can’t wait to get back out on the road.
She said: “I needed to live a normal life for a while but now I feel ready to get out there with this album.
“I’ve had the best time of my life and now we’re ready to share it with the world and get energy back from people. I’m excited.”

Leigh-Anne Pinnock promises Little Mix reunion

OHMYGOSSIP — Leigh-Anne Pinnock has promised Little Mix are “100%” going to reunite.
The ‘Black Magic’ hitmakers – which also featured Perrie Edwards and Jade Thirlwall – have been on indefinite hiatus since their ‘Confetti’ tour ended in 2022 but the ‘Stealin’ Love’ singer has insisted they will perform together again in the future, but first they need to focus on their respective solo endeavours.
Leigh-Anne told Dork: “I miss them so much. When you’ve worked so hard for something, and you finally get it, the idea of starting again is daunting, but I’ve been having so much fun.
“We’ve all said it, but it’s actually quite nice to have something of your own.
“We are 100% going to do a reunion; how can we not? But for this moment in time, we all need our own individual moments.”
The 32-year-old star revealed she and her bandmates had such a great time on the ‘Confetti’ tour, they even discussed scrapping their hiatus plans, but she ultimately feels they made the right decision.
She said: “The three of us have this genuine sisterhood, and no one else will ever get it.
“In fact, that last tour was so beautiful that there were times when we asked if we should just carry on as Little Mix because it felt so good. I don’t think it would have worked at that point in our lives, though.”
Leigh-Anne was initially “petrified” about the idea of going solo, but she believes she has proven she was up to the challenge.
She said: “I believe in my talent. I believe in myself and also, I just love to sing. There’s plenty of things I could do. But I know music is where I’m supposed to be. I’m excited to see where it’s going to take me next.”
The ‘Wings’ hitmakers, which originally included Jesy Nelson, formed on ‘The X Factor’ in 2011, becoming the first group to win the show.
Jesy quit the band in December 2020.

‘Extra points if you know this song’: Taylor Swift gives Crazier an outing on Eras tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Taylor Swift played her 2009 track ‘Crazier’ live for the first time ever on Saturday (08.06.24).
The 34-year-old singer was performing the second of her three sold-out shows at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh, Scotland, when it came to the mystery song element of her ‘Eras’ tour, and fans got a genuine surprise when she treated them to a mash up of the ‘Hannah Montana’ movie track, which was paired with 2023’s ‘All of the Girls You Loved Before’.
Taking to her piano, Taylor told the crowd: “You get extra points if you know this next song at all because it is really, really old.”
Before the bridge of the song, she exclaimed: “Oh my God, you’re so unbelievable.”
The other mash-up for the night was ‘The Bolter’, taken from her latest album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ and ‘Getaway Car’, which features on 2017’s ‘Reputation’.
At the end of the three-and-a-half hour show, Taylor admitted the warm reception she’d received from the huge crowd had left her feeling “really, really powerful”.
She said: “Oh Edinburgh look what you’ve done now. You’ve gone and made me feel so excellent.
“I’m not going to lie that just went straight to my head. Now I’m feeling really, really powerful. You’ve made me feel so nice like I’ve just played a show to 73,000 people and that is why.”
The three shows mark the ‘Blank Space’ hitmaker’s first concerts in Scotland since 2015 and she was glad to be back in the country.
She told her fans at the start of the gig: “I’m absolutely delighted to say these words to you tonight. Welcome to the Eras tour.
“I wanted to say just before we get into this on behalf of me, my band and all the members of the crew you have made us feel so at home. You have done a pretty astonishing thing for us. We’ve not been here for nine years and this is how you welcome us with the biggest stadium show ever.
“Somehow we managed to pack even more people in tonight. Tonight you’re going to hear a lot of songs.
“After tonight when you hear these songs you’re going to think of us and the memories we made on the ‘Eras’ tour.”

Charli XCX adds three new songs to Brat

OHMYGOSSIP — Charli XCX has added three new songs to her latest album ‘Brat’.
The 31-year-old pop star released the record on Friday (07.06.24) and just two days later she dropped an expanded version of the record with a trio of extra tracks ‘Hello goodbye’, ‘Guess’ and ‘Spring breakers’.
In a post on Instagram, Charli wrote: “‘Brat’ and it’s the same but there’s three more songs so it’s not – out at midnight.”
It came just two days after she dropped the initial album and thanked her fans for all their support. In a message shared on Instagram, Charli wrote: “‘Brat’ is out now!!
“Thank you so much for all the love and support you have all shown for this music, this campaign and for me – at my most pure, my most Charli, my most brat …
“I think we all feel that something quite special is happening … I love you all. This album was the product of 1000s of phonecalls, texts, emails, conversations, debates and discussions with multiple different amazing people who make up my epic longstanding team.
“We went back and forth on deciding which production tools to ban vs which to lean on, we tested hair texture over and over again to land on the perfect good/bad/professional/unprofessional texture, we road tested language, autotune, font, pixelation and spoke constantly about pop theory, narrative, the concept of desire and of course narrowed down around 65 shades of green to the final most ultimate most brat green.”
Charli previously explained the album’s name in an interview with a Rolling Stone UK, sharing: “It’s about this sort of behaviour that everybody adopts on the Internet, whether you’re a Twitter troll or whether you’re dancing to Addison Rae on TikTok.
“There is this element of unabashed, shameless, Me-centric content that is being made, but I also think behind that is a lot of people who use that as a protective layer.
“Brattiness is a cloak. You’re only a brat if you’re acting out against something that’s made you feel a little bit insecure.”

Ed Sheeran says Olivia Rodrigo has no skippable songs

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran is a big fan of Olivia Rodrigo.
The ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker says there is no “skippable” track on the 21-year-old Grammy winner’s pair of albums: 2021’s ‘GUTS’ and 2023’s ‘SOUR’.
Appearing on the ‘Therapuss With Jake Shane’ podcast, Ed, 33, first hailed Britney Spears’ 1998 classic ‘…Baby One More Time’ the top debut song by any artist.
He said: “I think ‘…Baby One More Time’ is, like, top two or three best songs ever written.”
The ‘Perfect’ singer has covered the tune many times.
The flame-haired superstar then heaped praise on Olivia.
He said of her albums: “Both those records actually, ‘GUTS’ and ‘SOUR,’ are un-skippable. It’s just, as a record, just a great record.”
Ed recently spilled that he gave Justin Bieber his hit ‘Love Yourself’ because his friends dismissed it as “Meh”.
The song went on to become a history making chart-topper for his pal Justin, 30.
Talking to fans in a break between songs at his concert at Hard Rock Live in the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Hollywood, Ed said: “This is a song when I was writing ‘Divide’ – I was writing a lot of songs about a lot of different things, and I wrote this song and honestly, I played it to people and they went, ‘Meh’.”
Ed played it for Justin who told him he wanted it, saying: “I went, ‘Cool, have it’, and then it got very big.”
Justin’s take on ‘Love Yourself’ topped the Billboard Hot 100 Year-End Chart in 2016, making him the youngest artist to have a No.1 single in the rankings in the publication’s history.
The success prompted Ed’s friends to ask why he would give it away in the first place.
He said he told them: “You told me it wasn’t good.”

Blossoms spill Glastonbury’s backstage area isn’t as glamorous as people think

OHMYGOSSIP — Blossoms have spilled that playing Glastonbury isn’t at all glamorous.
The indie pop group performed Smiths covers with Rick Astley at the world-famous festival in Somerset, England, last year, and in 2022, they performed ‘Spice Up Your Life’ with Sporty Spice, Melanie C.
However, the ‘Honey Sweet’ band have admitted that, unless you are a headliner, you must share toilets with everyone else on the bill.
Frontman Tom Ogden is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper’s WIRED column as saying: “Backstage at Glastonbury or any festival, unless you’re the headliner, toilets are shared aren’t they.”
Drummer Joe Donovan said: “And they’re Portaloos, they’re not like any better toilets – sometimes they are like a little bit better but they’re still not like unreal.”
Tom added: “Oh it’s not premium is it and if you’ve not been in there at 8.01 when they’ve just been cleaned, by f****** half nine they are peppered aren’t they!”
Meanwhile, Blossoms’ new album, ‘Gary’, is due for release on September 20, and is produced by the band’s regular collaborator James Skelly of The Coral, alongside Jungle’s Josh-Lloyd Watson, who produced ‘What Can I Say After I’m Sorry?’ and ‘Nightclub’.
Singer CMAT (Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson), 28, has also co-written two tracks on the album – ‘I Like Your Look’ and ‘Why Do I Give You the Worst of Me?’
Tom said: “The heart of this record is about the five of us recording live in a room together for the first time in years.
“We wanted to capture the energy of what it’s like when five friends decide to start a band and make music together.
“We collaborated more than we ever have on this record too, and alongside working with long-time collaborator James Skelly, we brought in Josh and CMAT.
“We hired an Airbnb on the seafront in Anglesey and locked ourselves away for the writing session with Ciara and it was one of the most inspiring few days we’ve had as a band.
“During the writing process, we were listening to a lot of Bowie, Blondie, and Hall and Oates.”
Other standout tracks on the album include ‘Big Star’ and ‘Mothers’, with Tom noting how they were also inspired by true stories: “The album tracks themselves are based on different stories, mostly from personal experience.
“On ‘Big Star’ after seeing a well-known music journalist in the Chateau Marmont, I debate going over and introducing myself but then shyness gets the better of me and I don’t.
“‘I Like Your Look’ is a tipping of the hat to Blondie’s ‘Rapture’ and a wink to Joan Baez ‘Time Rag’, and lyrically it explores a tongue-in-cheek approach to high fashion.
“‘Mothers’ is an ode to my and (bandmate) Joe (Donovan)’s friendship and it references the fact that our mothers were friends back in the ’80s.”
Blossoms are supporting Tom Grennan, 28, at Gunnersbury Park on August 10, and are set to play festivals including Isle of Wight and TRSNMT, before the band’s biggest headline gig to date at Wythenshawe Park, Manchester on August 25.
Since forming in 2013, Blossoms have enjoyed widespread success and acclaim.
Their 2016 debut LP topped the album charts for two consecutive weeks and went on to earn the band BRIT Award and Mercury Prize nominations, while 2018’s ‘Cool Like You’ charted at No.4 in the UK album chart.
Their fourth album, 2023’s ‘Ribbon Around the Bomb’, reached No.1
