Nick Cave dedicates song to ‘bright flame’ Anita Lane

OHMYGOSSIP — Nick Cave emotionally dedicated a song to the “bright flame” of Anita Lane at London’s The O2 on Saturday (09.11.24).
The 67-year-old singer paid tribute to his former Birthday Party bandmate and Bad Seeds pianist – who died in 2021 at the age of 61 – during the second Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds show at the venue, by pointedly performing ‘O Wow O Wow (How Wonderful She Is)’ in her memory.
And that wasn’t the only emotional moment of the evening as the Australian singer appeared tearful as he sang stripped-down versions of ‘I Need You’ and ‘Into My Arms’ while the crowd sang along.
By contrast, Nick also showed his lighter side by poking fun at Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood, who is playing bass on the tour in the absence of Martyn Casey.
Pointing to a fan on the front row, the singer highlighted they were wearing a “hideous Radiohead sweatshirt”.
He added: “What’s worse is you have a Björk t-shirt on underneath. That adds insult to injury”.
As he and his bandmates laughed, Nick said: “We love them both. Isn’t that right Colin? We stole Colin.”
And later in the set, the singer had another jibe to throw the way of his touring bandmate.
Singing ‘Red Right Hand’, he again looked over at the hoodie-wearing fan and changed the lyrics to: “You want another s***** T-shirt? He’ll get you one.”
Highlights from the two-and-a-half hour set included a number of tracks from latest album ‘Wild God’, ‘O Children’, the title song from lockdown album ‘Carnage’, and ‘White Elephant’.
Earlier this year, Colin admitted he had been having a “blast” performing with Nick and his band.
He told NME: “It’s an awesome group of people to play music with.
“They’re brilliant and with ferociously loud drummers; what a team. For me, it’s a really fun thing to do because it’s not Radiohead. There are a lot of different colours in the music, so I’m having a blast.
“[Nick] is such a great story-teller, and I really love his piano-playing.
“When I took the rough recordings from the new album home to listen to and heard his voice fill up my front room, I thought, ‘What a voice! He’s got the lot!’”

Grammy tribute to Quincy Jones

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Greatest Night in Pop’s Grammy nomination feels like “a sweet tribute” to the late Quincy Jones.
Jones, 91 – who died earlier this week – was the producer for the 1985 star-studded recording of ‘We Are The World’ and Grammys chief Harvey Mason Jr. is thrilled that the documentary which highlights his work on the song, has been nominated for Best Music Film.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: “It feels really important. It’s an incredible film. I’ve watched it multiple times, and it takes me back to a great place, and seeing legends and icons in the studio working together is something that I’ll never get tired of seeing. But I do believe it’s a fitting tribute to one of the most influential and impactful figures music has ever known, and absolutely somebody who impacted me more than almost anybody other than my own parents, who were musicians. If it weren’t for Quincy, I definitely wouldn’t be talking to you right now. If it weren’t for the work — like the work he did on ‘We Are the World’ and other great iconic records and recordings — I wouldn’t have made any music. I wouldn’t have had the audacity to think maybe I could produce films or make film music or soundtracks or scores, and I definitely wouldn’t have thought I could be an executive. So I’m really happy and proud that it [received] a nomination.”
Speaking about plans to celebrate Quincy at the Grammys next year, he told Variety: “I’d be fine with the taking up half the show! That’s how much I love Quincy and how much our community appreciates him and what he’s contributed. We’ll definitely do something, although probably won’t be as much as I wish we could do. But I’ll be pleased and proud to honour him in the show.”

Grammys chief praises Beyonce

OHMYGOSSIP — Grammys Chief Harvey Mason Jr. has praised Beyonce’s ability to cross genres with her music.
Beyonce is among the nominees in the Best Album and Best Country Album categories for ‘Cowboy Carter’ – the country-inspired record that she released earlier this year – while ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ has been nominated for the Song of the Year accolade and Harvey says the nominations have “credibility” because they are voted for by experts in each category.
He told Variety: “Remember our ’10/3′ rule, where you can only vote in three fields — which means that as a voter, you’re not just following your favourite artist around [every category], saying ‘I like this artist, I don’t care what type of music they make, I’m gonna vote for them everywhere.’ So when you see an artist nominated across genres, those are different voting bodies voting for that same artist in different genres. To me, that really, really adds credibility, because people with expertise in rock or rap or country or folk are voters are [solely] evaluating the music that’s in their category.”
Beyonce is now the most-nominated artist in the history of the Grammy Awards, after receiving 11 nominations for the latest awards.
She and her husband Jay Z – who have been married since 2008 – were previously tied on 88 nominations each, but Beyonce has managed to pull clear of her husband, as she received the most nominations for the upcoming awards show.
Beyonce has never won the Album Of The Year prize, despite being nominated in the category on four previous occasions. And earlier this year, Jay-Z actually slammed the Grammys for overlooking Beyonce for the top award.
The rap star said: “I don’t want to embarrass this young lady. But she has more Grammys than everyone and never won Album Of The Year. So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work. Think about that. The most Grammys; never won Album Of The Year. That doesn’t work.”
Beyonce will face competition for the coveted award from Andre 3000, Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX, Jacob Collier, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan and Taylor Swift.
The Grammy Awards will be held on February 2, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

U2’s Adam Clayton had ‘prejudice’ about playing in Las Vegas

OHMYGOSSIP — U2 were initially “prejudiced” about playing in Las Vegas.
The ‘One’ hitmakers played a 40-date residency, ‘U2:UV Achtung Baby Live’, at new venue The Sphere from September 2023 to March this year and though they were excited to “jump into” the shows at the innovative space, bassist Adam Clayton admitted they initially had reservations.
He told Record Collector magazine: “It was Bono who started to hear about this project called The Sphere happening in Las Vegas and in many ways, one’s prejudices against that were rife.
“It was like, ‘Oh really, you know, Las Vegas?’
“After a while though, we looked into it properly and dived into the tech.
“The screen is effectively 16k and covers three acres – that’s an unbelievable amount of LEDs bashed onto a wall.
“It started to look interesting, so we said, OK, we’re gonna jump into this.”
And the band relished being able to “throw out the rule book” to offer fans something different at the shows.
Adam said: “It does take people to a different place emotionally. We’re all a little conditioned on how a show works.
“It’s a big opening. You get 20 minutes of uptempo and then it starts to slow down and gets a bit emotional and intimate, and then it’ll sort of start ramping up again…
“So we threw out the rule book and it was somewhat like when you’re performing in a theatre or a musical show where the scenery and the technology give you that emotional context for what you’re doing.”

Charlie Puth channels Wham! on surprise Christmas song

OHMYGOSSIP — Charlie Puth has surprised fans by dropping a Christmas tune.
The 32-year-old pop star – who recently tied the knot with Brooke Sansone – has spread some early festive cheer with his joyous new yuletide track, ‘December 25th’, which he penned while working on his new album.
He said in a statement: “I wrote and recorded December 25th completely on a whim a few weeks ago in my studio while working on my new album, and though it sounds absolutely nothing like anything on the album, I figured why not share it for the holidays.”
Whether intended or not, the song is very much in the vein of Wham!’s 80s’ synth-pop classic ‘Last Christmas’.
Meanwhile, in May, Charlie revealed Taylor Swift inspired him to put out “one of the hardest songs” he’s ever had to write.
The pop superstar, 34, gave a shout-out to the ‘Light Switch’ hitmaker on the title track on her latest album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, singing: “You smoked then ate seven bars of chocolate / We declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist.”
And Charlie has revealed being name-dropped by the Grammy winner gave him the courage to share the painful song, ‘Hero’.
He shared on Instagram: “My new song ‘HERO’ is about when you see someone you love hurting themselves, ruining the things in their life that are good, but you just can’t save them. It’s one of the hardest songs I’ve ever had to write, but I wrote it in hopes that you’ve gone through something similar in your life, and that it can fill in the BLANK for you like it did for me.
“I’m very excited to share my next album with you, especially this song because it’s a great representation of what’s to come. I’ve never put out a song like this before – it’s very different for me, but I want to thank Taylor Swift for letting me know musically that I just couldn’t keep this on my hard drive any longer. Thank you to all of my fans – you’ll never know how much you mean to me…”
He had teased: “I think someone out there was giving me a sign that I needed to release it. So… I declare ‘Hero’ will be out everywhere on May 24th as the first single of my new album. Thank you for your support… you know who you are.”
Charlie’s new album will be the follow-up to his 2022 self-titled LP ‘Charlie’.

Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie calls Blur’s Alex James a ‘social climber’

OHMYGOSSIP — Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie has branded Blur’s Alex James a “social climber”.
The 63-year-old Glaswegian singer – whose group released their latest album ‘Come Ahead’ on Friday (08.11.24) – has suggested the Britpop group’s bassist, 55, who is also a farmer and cheesemaker, has tried to gain a higher social status by hanging out with the likes of former Prime Minister and Conservative Leader David Cameron and former ‘Top Gear’ host Jeremy Clarkson.
In a candid interview with The i newspaper, he began: “I find myself in the strange position of being both inside and outside of [class].”
Discussing the track ‘Wrestles’, Bobby said: “’Wrestles’ might be overstating the case but if you’re in a successful band, you get invited to things, know people from different classes, you’ve experienced things. It’s not like you’re trying to be like the guy from Blur [Alex James] hanging out with David Cameron and what’s his name, the guy that does the driving? [Jeremy Clarkson].
“That’s obviously social climbing going on there, right? I don’t mean it like that. It’s just being aware. You’ve got nice houses and are doing alright. And you think, ‘Well, not everyone else is doing alright.’”
The former Jesus and Mary Chain drummer’s father, Bob Gillespie, was a former SOGAT union official and Labour Party candidate in the 1988 Govan by-election.
Asked if he has “working-class guilt”, he replied: “No, not really. We wanted to be rock’n’roll stars so that we don’t have to work in a factory or be told what to do. There was no guilt. My dad always said to me, ‘While the money’s there, you’ve got to take it, because you’re not promised tomorrow.’”
‘Common People’ hitmakers Blur, like their rivals Oasis, were part of the Britpop phenomenon of the 1990s and former Prime Minister Tony Blair and New Labour capitalised on the music and cultural movement that became known as ‘Cool Britannia’.
Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher, 57 – who was raised in a working-class family in Manchester – even partied at 10 Downing Street when Blair led Labour to victory in the 1997 election.

The Vamps star Bradley Simpson announces debut solo album and 2025 tour

OHMYGOSSIP — The Vamps star Bradley Simpson has unveiled his debut solo album, ‘The Panic Years’.
The 29-year-old singer – who shot to fame in 2012 as a member of the chart-topping boy band alongside James Brittain-McVey, Connor Ball, and Tristan Evans – will show fans a whole different “side” of his life that he has not shared before on the deeply personal record, which is due for release on February 28, 2025.
He said in a statement: “I hope these songs and stories can help them navigate those experiences. They can become the soundtrack to their lives, whether they’re dancing, crying, going out or whatever it is. It really feels like an opportunity to let them into a side of my life that I haven’t shared before.”
Bradley has shared the new single ‘Holy Grail’, which follows ‘Cry At The Moon’, ‘Picasso’, ‘Daisies’ and ‘Always Like This’.
He co-wrote the track with songwriter to the stars Ina Wroldsen – whose recent credits include Kylie Minogue’s bop ‘Padam Padam’ – and Grammy-nominated BOOTS, who is best known for his work with Beyonce.
Bradley added of the latest single: “‘Holy Grail’ is a song about realising that going through ups and downs with someone you love makes it worth it. I spoke about that with my friend Ina, who is an incredible songwriter, and then wrote it around an electric guitar before I recorded anything. Later, BOOTS and I tracked live drums, and I wrote the outro in the studio. It was one of the harder ones on the album to finish because it felt quite delicate and anything we added really needed to earn its place in the production.”
Fans of The Vamps will be thrilled to hear they are not going anywhere, as confirmed in the song titled ‘The Band’s Not Breaking Up’.
As well as new music, Bradley is also set to embark on his biggest headline tour to date.
The run kicks off at Dublin’s The Academy on May 7, followed by dates in Newcastle, Glasgow, Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Bristol, Southampton, and wrapping at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town on May 23.
Fans who pre-order ‘The Panic Years’ via store.bradleysimpson.com before 3pm on November 12 will receive access to a pre-sale for tickets. General on sale begins at 10am on November 15.

Doves announce live return without frontman Jimi Goodwin

OHMYGOSSIP — Doves are reuniting for a tour without frontman Jimi Goodwin.
The Manchester indie rockers have announced their first shows since 2019, but twins Jez and Andy Williams will be stepping in to perform lead vocals as Jimi has decided it’s best for his mental health if he sits out the live performances to “maintain” his sobriety.
The three intimate shows will take place on November 27 at Stoke’s Sugarmill, November 28 at Birkenhead’s Future Yard, and The Trades Club in Hebden Bridge on November 29.
Jimi, 54, told NME: “I’m not going out live this time.
“The door’s not closed on that chapter; I just have to honour my sobriety and do what I need to in order to maintain that. I’m not ready to perform yet.”
The musician insists he’s not done performing with Doves, but now is not the right time.
He added: “Jez and Andy have got my complete blessing. I’m absolutely thrilled for them. They still want to be jobbing and gigging musicians. It’s part of the package for them, and it is for me too, but right now I don’t want to upset any apple carts. You’ve not heard the last of me performing again with Doves.”
Guitarist Jez, also 54, says the tour is for fans who were left disappointed when they were forced to cancel their ‘The Universal Want’ tour, which included a UK and Ireland tour in 2022, due to Jimi’s struggles, and promised fans will hear the songs live for the first time.
He said: “Jimi is still working on his sobriety and mental health.
“When we cancelled ‘The Universal Want’ tour, people were really f****** off that they’d bought these tickets after waiting for us since 2010, just for us to cancel. People just want to hear the songs. We never got to play that album live. Jimi’s not ready, but he gave us his blessing, so we’re going to take the songs out live with us.
“I’m singing the majority of the songs and Andy will be singing some too. It’s strange with Doves, the band is bigger than the sum of its parts. We’re going out there to play the songs for the people that want to hear them. Travelling is in our blood. We made the decision to do this between the three of us.”
Drummer Andy added: “We don’t know what the future looks like. We’ve been working really hard for these intimate gigs, so we’re really looking forward to it.”
Joining the brothers are Nathan Sudders on bass, Jake Evans, who has toured with Jimi in the past, and Doves’ regular keyboard player, Martin Rebelski.
After cryptically teasing fans, the band returned this week with the new single ‘Renegades’ from their upcoming sixth studio album ‘Constellations For The Lonely’, which is due for release on February 14, 2025.
‘The Universal Want’ – which topped the charts in 2020 – was the trio’s first studio effort since 2009’s ‘Kingdom of Rust’.

KSI presented with BRIT Billion award for Thick Of It

OHMYGOSSIP — KSI has been presented with a BRIT Billion Award for ‘Thick Of It’.
The 31-year-old rapper – whose real name is Olajide Olayinka Williams ‘JJ’ Olatunji – admits it’s “surreal” that his viral hit with Trippie Red has surpassed a billion streams.
KSI said: “Receiving the BRIT Billion Award is honestly surreal. To have billions of streams in the UK is huge and I can’t thank my fans enough for being on this crazy journey with me. You’ve all been there, pushing the music, and it’s unreal to see it pay off. It’s crazy to see Thick Of It hitting like this. The remix with NLE Choppa goes hard – check it out. This is just the start!”
Thanks to ‘Thick Of It’, the Sidemen star’s streams increased by eight million in just three weeks, with KSI now having more than 10 million monthly listeners.
The music video on YouTube has more than 47 million views, surpassing his 2021 hit ‘Holiday’ (40 million views).
And on TikTok, the song has exceeded two billion views after being used by Kim Kardashian and her daughter North West and many more celebrities on the video-sharing platform.
Meanwhile, the boxer-turned-rapper has just been unveiled as a new judge on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’.
The social media star will stand in for Bruno Tonioli during the next series of the ITV show as the Italian takes time away due to his ‘Dancing with the Stars’ commitments and has already joked that he will be the nasty one on the panel.
KSI told ‘Capital’: “I’ve kicked Bruno out, and I’m taking his place! Actually, he’s coming back, but I’m there for a little bit. Yeah, it’s going to be fun, man. I’m going to judge some talent.
“Everyone thinks I’m going to be an evil judge, I’m going to be a villain – I’m going to just press the red button as soon as they walk out. I might do that every now and then, but I’m just going to have fun with it and we’ll just see what happens.”
KSI will join regular judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon on the panel next year and recently spoke of his excitement at the opportunity.
He said: “I’m so excited to be a guest judge for ‘BGT’. When I got the call up, I couldn’t believe it. I remember watching old ‘BGT’ episodes and going from being amazed to laughing my a*** off. I’m buzzing to see all the fresh new talent, and I’ll be sure to leave a mark.”

Poison plan 2026 comeback

OHMYGOSSIP — Poison will make a comeback in 2026.
The ‘Every Rose Has Its Thorn’ group have worked sporadically over the last 15 years and last toured in 2022 with Def Leppard, but drummer Rikki Rockett – who has been with the band since they formed in 1983 – has confirmed they will be getting back together not too far into the future.
Rikki appeared on SiriusXM’s ‘Trunk Nation’, where host Eddie Trunk said: “When I announced on socials about a week ago when I knew you were going to come on today.
“Bret sent me a text – Bret Michaels – a day or two ago, and he said, ‘Hey, I hear you’re gonna have Rockett on. Send him my love and tell him Poison 2026.’”
The 63-year-old musician confirmed: “Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely. ’26 is for sure gonna happen.
“I mean, unless some unforeseen thing happens, but all band members have stuck their hand in and said, ‘Yeah, we’re definitely doing it – without a doubt.’ ”
Frontman Bret – who has enjoyed a successful solo career away from the group – announced earlier this year he would be taking “most, if not all, of 2025 off” due to “physical adversity”.
He said in a statement in March: “I’ve always stated that music is a universal language that is meant to unite us, excite us and never divide us. It is a soundtrack to our everyday lives and I truly look forward to giving every bit of energy I’ve got in 2024 and leave it all up there on the stage every night.
“However, in 2025, in light of some recent medical results and setbacks, and with much discussion and real advice from my doctors and family, I will be taking most, if not all, of 2025 off, except for a few select dates with both the BRET MICHAELS BAND and possibly all-original POISON.
“I truly need to recharge the batteries and get a good, much-needed physical tune-up.
“Please always understand that I am forever grateful to the fans and hope you understand that this will bring me back in 2026 and beyond to be able to always give 1000% on that stage with positive energy and an Unbroken Warrior Spirit!”

BLACKPINK star Rosé has turned painful moments in her life into ‘beautiful’ music

OHMYGOSSIP — BLACKPINK star Rosé admits her best songwriting sessions are when she is going through a bad time in her life.
The 27-year-old K-pop star is set to get “raw and honest” about a rough period in her life on her upcoming debut solo album, ‘rosie’, and compared penning the personal lyrics about her “emotions” to a therapy session.
Appearing on First We Feast’s ‘Hot Ones’, she said: “I don’t want to say this, but usually when I’m kind of, for me, it’s been like an experience of ‘wow, life has been pretty bad lately’.
“It’s always been the best sessions.
“Because I’ve left all that there, and I end up walking out with a great song. This album is a representation of my past three or four years and all the raw and honest emotions that I’ve never talked about before.”
Despite the dark subject matter, Rosé was able to turn it into “something beautiful”.
She said: “I think that’s the beauty of it. That’s what I like most about creating, that you can take something not so great [and turn it] into something beautiful.”
Rosé recently shared that she has included a “disgustingly vulnerable” track on the record.
Doom-scrolling through hateful comments served as inspiration for one of the record’s most meaningful tunes.
Rosé told PAPER magazine: “I realise how vulnerable and addicted I was to this (online) world and that craving for feeling like I wanted to be loved and understood.
“It’s so disgustingly vulnerable and honest that people learn that I am a person that goes through these emotions, and I hated that about myself.”
The singer – who recently collaborated with Bruno Mars on the tune ‘APT.’ – also revealed that online criticism is hurtful despite her best attempts to appear unruffled.
She said: “If anything, it’s something I want to cover up. Even in interviews, I’m like nothing really fazes me, you know? But it does. Every word, every comment, it crushes me.”

Camila Cabello cried after Beyonce praised her album

OHMYGOSSIP — Camila Cabello was reduced to tears after Beyonce told her she loved her album.
The ‘Havana’ hitmaker encountered the superstar shortly after releasing the record ‘C, XOXO’ in June and revealed that she was unable to keep her emotions in check after being praised by the ‘Single Ladies’ singer.
Camila told the ‘And The Writer Is…’ podcast: “I met somebody who told me something about my album recently: Beyonce.
“She fully was like, ‘I love your new album’ and I was like, ‘You inspire me so much.’ I just walked away and I cried.”
The former Fifth Harmony singer revealed that the praise from Beyonce was important validation for her as she has sometimes been left questioning why she is still in the industry after being targeted by hateful social media trolls.
Camila, 27, said: “I’ve been feeling so vulnerable and fragile. I think I’ve just been spending more time on social media than I usually do, and then I’ll read comments and see something that leaves me f*****.
“It’s just been really, really hard.”
Camila previously revealed that she is keen to write “beautiful” songs about marriage and parenthood in the future.
The ‘Senorita’ artist told Britain’s HELLO! magazine: “I’m 27 now but at some point, I’m going to be married with kids and I’ll probably write a beautiful folk song about that.
“But right now, I’m in the phase of experiencing and questioning everything I can.
“I want to make mistakes and learn because now is the time to do it, before the next phase comes along.
“At this age, you’re looking for answers about life, love, career, the next step.
“Live your questions – that’s a big theme of my album.”

Tom Grennan hints at music reinvention with his upcoming album

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Grennan’s new album will “reinvent” his sound.
The 29-year-old singer’s fourth studio record is set for release next year and he has promised that it will be a departure from his previous material.
Tom told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “The album’s done, which I’m really, really excited for.
“This time, I absorbed loads of music. I listened to my own music too and just kind of saw myself going down a little bit of a lane.
“It’s like, nah, I don’t wanna do that. I wanna try and reinvent myself, and my sound, and put out music that I really love.
“And I feel like I’ve done that this time, and I’m excited.”
Meanwhile, Tom is hoping to land the coveted Christmas number one spot with his new track ‘It Can’t Be Christmas’ and will party hard if the track tops the charts on December 25.
The ‘By Your Side’ hitmaker said: “I’m not going for Christmas number two. I’m definitely going for number one.
“Imagine, Christmas day and finding out you’ve gone to number one? I’m going out, out. Christmas day, I’m having it up.
“I’m pretty strict most of the year. And I used to be strict all year round. But I’ve kind of finally found peace with who I am and what I am and where I need to be and what I need to do.
“So if I have a Christmas number one, I’m telling you, bro, I ain’t seeing you for a week or two. I’ll have a good time.”
Tom actually wrote his Christmas single at the height of summer in Los Angeles.
He shared: “I was like, right, I wanna go somewhere really hot.
“I rang up my friend, (songwriter) Justin Tranter, and I said, ‘I’m coming to Los Angeles, we need to write a Christmas song’.
“We wrote four or five, I think. Definitely they’ll get heard. You never know, Christmas albums and whatnot. But right now, ‘It Can’t Be Christmas’ is the one that needs to be heard.”

Jake Bugg isn’t bothered by fans being on their phones at his shows

OHMYGOSSIP — Jake Bugg doesn’t care if fans are glued to their phones at his gigs.
The 30-year-old singer has revealed that he is happy for those in attendance to film his performance on their phone despite other artists complaining about the issue.
Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column, Jake said: “I don’t mind phones at concerts. If people want to film and look back on it, that’s OK.”
However, the artist – who released his latest album ‘A Modern Day Distraction’ last month – isn’t so keen on fans chucking beer in his direction.
Bugg explained: “I’ve had people throwing things. Sometimes it’s a nice letter, sometimes it’s beer. You just don’t know what you’re going to get.”
Meanwhile, Jake is good friends with Beastie Boys star Mike D and explained that he opens up to his pal in times of uncertainty.
The ‘Lightning Bolt’ singer said: “I’ve known Mike for a long time. If I have doubts, he’ll have some sort of story that helps me.”
Jake previously revealed how he gained new fans after his 2012 song ‘Trouble Town’ was the theme tune to the popular BBC drama ‘Happy Valley’ – even though he had never seen the TV series himself.
He told Absolute Radio: “Yeah, you want it to be a thing that reflects well on the music and it has to kind of have some connection but people tell me that it works and it’s hard, I think the writer, because you’re always thinking like it always seems detached no matter how well it works. But I’ve heard the show is great.”
When asked if he’s seen the programme, Jake admitted: “No, I’ve not seen it, but I’ve heard It’s brilliant. And I should, to be honest. Now, if the song’s on it.”

Girls Aloud to release poignant new version of I’ll Stand By You for BBC Children In Need

OHMYGOSSIP — Girls Aloud are releasing an emotional new version of ‘I’ll Stand By You’ for BBC Children In Need.
The update to the song, titled ‘I’ll Stand By You – Sarah’s Version’, features the late Sarah Harding exclusively on lead vocals and comes 20 years after the band topped the charts with their cover of The Pretenders hit for the charity.
Sarah’s vocals were discovered in the Girls Aloud vault as ‘The Promise’ group were putting together material for their sell-out The Girls Aloud Show arena tour earlier this year that featured remaining members Cheryl, Nicola Roberts, Nadine Coyle and Kimberley Walsh.
The track featuring Sarah – who passed away aged 39 in 2021 after a battle with breast cancer – was a highlight of the tour and a freshly produced studio version will be released on November 15 as a special charity single in support of BBC Children In Need.
A post on Girls Aloud’s Instagram page said: “‘I’ll Stand By You (Sarah’s Version)’ features Sarah on lead vocal throughout using vocals we discovered in the Girls Aloud vault from the original recording sessions.
“The track played a key role in our The Girls Aloud Show arena tour this summer and was an emotional moment for us.”
‘I’ll Stand By You – Sarah’s Version’ premiered on ‘The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show’ on BBC Radio 2 on Wednesday (06.11.24) and a new edit of the original video with unseen archive footage will be released during the BBC Children In Need Appeal Show on November 15.
The Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde – who wrote the song with Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly – said: “How wonderful to hear ‘I’ll Stand By You’ with the lovely vocals of Sarah Harding leading the way for BBC Children In Need. Happy Christmas all!”
Proceeds from the single will benefit BBC Children In Need projects working with children in communities across the UK facing a variety of challenges, including those supporting children with cancer.
