The Edge says that U2 are wading through material for new album

OHMYGOSSIP — The Edge has revealed that U2 have an “awful lot of material” for their next album.
The ‘Beautiful Day’ rockers are planning their next studio record and the guitarist has revealed that the band are currently condensing down ideas they came up with during the coronavirus lockdown.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, The Edge said: “We’re working on so many different things. During the whole Covid lockdown, I just went crazy into creating tracks and song ideas. So we’re starting to go through some of those, and we’ve got an awful lot of material to wade through to see what it is.
“And I guess we’re at that great honeymoon period of a lot of experimentation, and looking at all kinds of possible themes musically.”
The Edge thinks that the guitar will be featured heavily on the next album, although he insists that it won’t be a “heavy rock” LP.
The 63-year-old musician said: “I think the guitar will be a big part of the next record, but I don’t think it’s going to be a heavy rock album. I think it’s going to be a very different kind of use of the guitar, not a straight-up rock thing.
“We’ve never done that. It’s just not who we are. We’ve always tried to avoid using the instrument in a way that’s too mainstream and kind of normal. We’ve always tried to find ways to use the guitar that has never been heard before, and it seems that’s an important part of what gets us excited.”
The Edge is hoping that he and bandmates Bono, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. can go on tour again in a way that is environmentally conscious following their residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas that finished earlier this year.
He said: “We’re looking forward to getting out and seeing our fans and going to where they are. I think that would be an important thing rather than them travelling to us.
“That helps on some levels cutting out some sort of the carbon emissions of touring, but I think we can find a way to cut back on carbon and still manage to get on the road and see our fans where they are.”

‘It’s still my song’: Sting insists that Diddy allegations don’t tarnish Every Breath You Take

OHMYGOSSIP — Sting says the allegations against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs do not “taint” ‘Every Breath You Take’.
The Police’s 1983 chart-topper was sampled by the rapper – who was arrested in September over charges of sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution – for his 1997 hit ‘I’ll Be Missing You’ but the legendary musician insists that the legal action taken against Diddy does not change the way he sees the song.
Sting told the Los Angeles Times newspaper: “No. I mean, I don’t know what went on (with Diddy). But it doesn’t taint the song at all for me. It’s still my song.”
The singer added that fans still “absolutely” adore the tune being performed.
‘I’ll Be Missing You’ was a tribute to the Notorious B.I.G. and Diddy only asked for Sting’s permission to use the sample once the song had been released – although The Police frontman insisted that the track had made him a lot of money.
The 73-year-old musician said back in 2003: “Those guys just take your s***, put it on a record and deal with the legality later.
“Elton John told me, ‘You gotta hear (‘I’ll Be Missing You’), you’re gonna be a millionaire!’ I said, ‘I am a millionaire!’ He said, ‘You’re gonna be a millionaire twice over!’
“I put a couple of my kids through college with the proceeds.”
Meanwhile, the artist has been on the road with guitarist Dominic Miller and drummer Chris Maas on his Sting 3.0 tour and explained that the shows always start and finish with Police favourites.
Sting said: “We always front-load it with hits and end with hits. But the middle is kind of fluid. Keeps it fresh.”

Paul Weller and Primal Scream to perform at Gig For Gaza

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Weller, Primal Scream and Kneecap are set to perform at the ‘Gig For Gaza’.
The trio are amongst the acts who will be taking to the stage at the charity show that will take place at the O2 Academy Brixton in London on December 13 to raise funds for the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The former Jam frontman has curated the line-up for the gig, which also includes Liam Bailey and more artists who will be announced in the coming weeks.
All proceeds from the show will go directly to MAP (Medical Aid For Palestinians) and Gaza Forever. Both charities provide essential aid – including food, medical supplies and emergency shelter – for those caught up in the conflict in Gaza.
The concert will also feature guest speakers and short films and promises to bring together “some extraordinary talent to raise much-needed funds and awareness” amid the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The artwork for the show has been designed by Robert Del Naja of Massive Attack who have consistently used their platform to call for an end to the brutal occupation and oppression of the Palestinian people.
A description for the event reads: “This is an opportunity to enjoy a night of powerful music, and make a tangible difference in the lives of people facing unimaginable hardship. Every ticket and donation counts.”
Tickets go on general sale at 10am on Friday (15.11.24).

Bobby Gillespie needed a break from Primal Scream

OHMYGOSSIP — Bobby Gillespie needed an outlet from Primal Scream.
The Scottish rockers released their first album for eight years, ‘Come Ahead’, last week and the frontman thinks that taking some time away from the ‘Come Together’ band was a necessary move.
Asked if working on other projects had helped him, Bobby told Uncut: “One hundred per cent. I’m trying to work out what you do with a band that’s been going as long as we have. I just wanna make records and write songs that reflect how I feel at the age I’m now and the world in which I find myself living, and I’m very curious about the world.
“It’s not like you’re trying to be better than anyone else. I just wanna make a contribution to music.”
Bobby explained that he and guitarist Andrew Innes felt they were making Primal Scream music out of necessity rather than gaining any creative joy from the process.
The 63-year-old musician said: “We wanted to be creative, and also we’re workers. We didn’t wanna be lazy people. There was a period where that really did work, from ’96 to maybe 2002, and after that, I’m not so sure.
“We both started having kids and families, and I guess it was just keeping ourselves busy. It would’ve been maybe better to take a couple of years off, but we wanted to keep working because it was the way we were brought up. You know, our parents worked.”
Bobby revealed that the lyrics featured on ‘Come Ahead’ are a continuation of the work he did on ‘Utopian Ashes’ – the record he made with Jehnny Beth in 2021.
He said: “I wrote the lyrics for ‘Utopian Ashes’ just before I wrote my book ‘Tenement Kid’, and between those two releases something was unlocked and made free.”

Brian May performed in pyjamas at a furniture shop

OHMYGOSSIP — Brian May performed in his pyjamas at a furniture shop to film a music video for his singer pal Talia Dean.
The Queen rocker collaborated with the pop star on her single ‘You Made Your Bed’ and he made an appearance in the promo which was filmed at the Cobham Furniture store in Cobham, Surrey and he did it all in his nightwear.
Talia told the BBC Radio Surrey: “He’s such a good friend and a good person. If you say to him: ‘Look I’m filming a crazy video in a furniture shop where we’re all going to be bouncing on beds and causing chaos – are you up for it?’ He goes: ‘I’m in, tell me where and when and I’ll bring nine amps!’
“He plays the guitar the whole way through but then has a 16-bar absolute corker of a guitar solo in the middle, which isn’t done these days and he absolutely smashes it and rips and shreds through the song and I love it – and he does it in a pair of pyjamas.”
The single was released on Friday (08.11.24) and 10 per cent of the proceeds are going to the Crisis homelessness charity.
Talia added of the decision: “[It will] get people in beds over the winter … A lot of people end up homeless because of relationship breakdowns and being in toxic environments and having to flee.”
Brian previously opened up about the collaboration in a statement, saying: “I see this track as a very important marker in Talia’s career. It’s as if, in this song, she’s shaking off not just a relationship, but a whole way of life which she no longer wants to live.
“She and I are already working in the exciting new territory which this song predicts. But for now, this is song packed with pure naughtiness and fun, and makes me smile every time I hear it.”

RAYE believes losing songwriting books for new album was ‘blessing in disguise’

OHMYGOSSIP — RAYE believes having her songwriting books for her new album go missing was a “blessing in disguise”.
The ‘Escapism’ hitmaker was left gutted after her handwritten lyrics for her follow-up to her acclaimed album 2023 ‘My 21st Century Blues’ went missing when her car was stolen.
At the time, the 27-year-old BRIT Award-winner told fans they would have to wait a while longer for her to write her second album.
She wrote on Instagram last month: “It’s my birthday and my car got stolen with all my song writing books in the boot so no second album any time soon love you bye.”
However, in hindsight, RAYE believes “everything happens for a reason” and she has had to “let go” of the fact she won’t make the same songs.
Speaking on the red carpet at the 2024 MTV EMAs at Manchester’s Co-Op Live on Sunday (10.11.24), she is quoted by the BBC as saying: “I’ve just had to let it go.
“You let it go, because you think you can come back to it – and now there are so many ideas that are just gone. It’s so sad.
“Everything happens for a reason. I’ll have to start again and maybe it’s a blessing in disguise.”
On her birthday, RAYE had a cake made with icing reading “sorry ur car got stolen (sic)”.
Since the release of her first album, RAYE – who broke the record for the most wins and nominations for an artist in a single year with her six prizes at the BRIT Awards earlier this year – has released the “deeply personal” seven-minute-long song, ‘Genesis’, which she described as “a prayer and a plea and a cry for help” in troubled times.
In a statement, she said: “There is a Nina Simone quote, ‘It is an artist’s duty to reflect the times.’ This quote is everything to me and I believe the best way I can try to do this is through my art and my music.
“There is so much darkness and pain in this world we live in, and I wanted to create something both as deeply personal and as raw as I could find myself to be about my own mind and the world I see around me.”
She added: “The song is a seven-minute piece that I have crafted and scrutinised over the last year and a half, experimenting with different genres and sonic expressions, beneath all the layers and the lyrics, the underlying message is ‘Let There Be Light’.
“It is a prayer and a plea and a cry for help, and I really hope this song will be able to bring some hope, the way this music does for me, to those who need it most.”

Motorhead rocker Phil Campbell hates fans filming entire concerts

OHMYGOSSIP — Motörhead rocker Phil Campbell gets annoyed when fans film entire concerts.
The 63-year-old guitarist doesn’t mind if gig-goers record half a song, but when they are filming the entire show, he finds it “off-putting” seeing a sea of smartphones instead of their faces.
Speaking to singer-songwriter Brocarde – who claims to be able to speak to the dead and recently alleged that she got in contact with the heavy metal group’s late frontman Lemmy – in a recent YouTube interview, he said:  ”As soon as we get on stage, you see all the phones coming up. And I don’t mind somebody filming a little bit — you know, half a song. You get people, and I see them and they’ve been there, they’re expressionless and they’ve been there the entire show. They haven’t moved a limb. And stuff like that really p***** me off. You should live in the moment. And it’s off-putting as well. I much preferred it when people couldn’t be just filming. And the quality’s c*** anyway. I’d rather see them tapping their feet or anything… You walk on stage and automatically everyone — the cameras come up, phones. You gotta be in the moment. You gotta be there. It’s important.”
It’s a pet hate of many artists, but Jake Bugg recently insisted he doesn’t care if fans are glued to their phones at his gigs.
The 30-year-old musician told the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column: “I don’t mind phones at concerts. If people want to film and look back on it, that’s OK.”
However, the artist – who released his latest album ‘A Modern Day Distraction’ last month – isn’t so keen on fans chucking beer in his direction.
The ‘Lightning Bolt’ hitmaker added: “I’ve had people throwing things. Sometimes it’s a nice letter, sometimes it’s beer. You just don’t know what you’re going to get.”

Liam Gallagher hits back after fan asks ‘ridiculous question’ about Oasis reunion

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher says Oasis will “wipe the floor” with the “majority of bands out there” on their reunion tour.
The legendary Britpop group’s frontman was left insulted after a fan asked him a “ridiculous question” about whether the ‘Supersonic’ hitmakers will be as good live as their ‘90s heyday when they play their first shows in 16 years on the ‘Oasis Live ‘25’ jaunt next year, and he insists they are better live than most bands today.
He responded on X: “Got asked a ridiculous question yesterday so are OASIS gonna be as good as you once were because when sone bands get back together there not as good I said listen here you **** even on our bad day we’ll still wipe the floor with majority of bands out there. (sic)”
The 52-year-old rocker – who has put to bed his longstanding feud with his brother Noel Gallagher, 57, the group’s guitarist, for the tour – recently responded to grumbles from some about the lack of new artists joining them on the road after former Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft was among the acts confirmed to open for the ‘Live Forever’ rockers on the UK and Ireland leg of the tour.
Liam insisted Richard, 53, has “got more talent in his left nostril than all your so called new bands put together (sic)”
After it was confirmed that he will join the Gallagher brothers on the road, fans messaged Liam on X to say that Oasis should give new indie bands an opportunity to play at the sold-out shows, but the ‘Some Might Say’ rocker dismissed the suggestions, insisting there are no new groups who can match the talent of the ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ singer.
Liam posted: “To all the folk who are crying about us not showing love to the young bands and not letting them support there’s LEVELS to this game and I’m afraid 99 [per cent] of ya are way off. (sic)”
Responding to a follower who stated that “Oasis could really have made a difference by promoting newer/contemporary band”, Liam penned: “Richard’s got more talent in his left nostril than all your so called new bands put together now stop being an entitled little bumbaseed and show some f****** respect. (sic)”
When one fan pointed out that Liam let his son Gene Gallagher’s band Villanelle open at his solo concerts and suggested his analysis “applies to ur son’s s*** band but they still opened for u didn’t they (sic)”, the music legend replied: “It doesn’t actually there the 1 p cent that are mega. (sic)”
Richard is a long-time friend of Liam and Noel, with his former band The Verve often touring with Oasis in the ’90s.
Indie rockers Cast are also set to open for Oasis after John Power and co joined Liam on his ‘Definitely Maybe’ arena tour this summer and previously opened for them at Knebworth in 1996.
In North America, they will be joined by Cage The Elephant.
The ‘Oasis Live ‘25’ tour’ kicks off at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on July 4 and includes seven nights at London’s Wembley Stadium.
The global run will also take in Australia and Mexico.

Eagles guitarist Vince Gill reveals what it’s really like to play Las Vegas’ Sphere

OHMYGOSSIP — Eagles’ guitarist Vince Gill admits performing at Las Vegas’ state-of-the-art Sphere is a “trip”.
The 67-year-old musician – who has performed with the rock legends since the death of longtime member Glenn Frey in 2017 – has explained how playing the multi-billion-dollar venue in Sin City differs from standard concerts because the crowd are more immersed in the visuals than the band.
The sphere-shaped amphitheatre boasts a 16K resolution wraparound interior LED screen, 4D physical effects and the world’s most-advanced audio grade sound system.
And not only are the fans awe-struck by the visuals, but the musicians feel like they are “moving” onstage as everything around them is “tilted”.
Speaking to American Songwriter, Vince said of the unique experience: “It’s staggeringly massive.
“I was getting kind of where I felt like I was going to fall over because things are tilted, and you think you’re moving, but you’re not. It’s a trip. It’s the most people I’ve ever been ignored by when I’m playing. You’re playing, and they’re all staring at all the stuff on the ceiling. They’re not paying any attention to you. It’s kind of fun, really.”
He added: “The whole point of that show and that building is the visual side of it.
“I never wanted to see anybody running around on the stage and yelling at me and being aerobic and bombs going off and pyro and whatever. And it’s a great show.”
U2 were the first band to play the venue last September, with the 40-show residency ‘U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere’.
Eagles recently added four more dates to their Sphere residency, taking their total to 28 dates, with the run now set to wrap on March 15, 2025.

Earlier this year, Robbie revealed he has “written loads of songs” and is feeling more “ambitious” than ever.
He told Virgin Radio: “I’ve got loads of plans. I’ve written loads of songs, I’ve got my film [Better Man] at the end of this year and I’m doing Hyde Park in the summer.
“I have never been busier, I’ve never been as ambitious as I am right now. I am full of purpose, and I am loving life.”
Since the release of 2019’s ‘The Christmas Present’, Robbie dropped his dance side project Lufthaus’ record ‘Visions, Vol. 1’ last year, as well as his greatest hits collection ‘XXV’ in 2022.
Meanwhile, his touring drummer and live music director, Karl Brazil, recently spilled that Robbie has recorded a song featuring Black Sabbath legend Tony Iommi on guitar.
Speaking on the ‘Percussion Discussion’ podcast, Karl said: “He’s got an album to follow that we’ve been working on.
“He’s working with various people, but I’ve been fortunate enough to do some songs with him.
“We’ve done a track called Rocket with Tony, which is very random.
“It’s great. It’s a rocker and really cool.
Tony has done his thing on it.”

Paul Weller dedicates My Ever Changing Moods to ‘people of Gaza’ at London show

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Weller dedicated ‘My Ever Changing Moods’ to the “people of Gaza” at his concert in London on Friday night (08.11.24).
The 66-year-old rocker took a moment to speak out about the Israel-Palestine conflict and said that it was “really shocking that in the 21st century that this is going on”.
Weller then performed the 1984 single ‘My Ever Changing Moods’ by his previous band The Style Council.
Addressing the sold-out crowd at the Eventim Apollo, he said: “I’d like to dedicate this to the people of Gaza and the Palestinians who have undergone slaughter and genocide for the last year and a bit, and it’s continuing as well and spreading and it’s just shocking. Really, really shocking that in the 21st century that this is going on. I hope everyone can be beyond our politics and religion to see how f***ing wrong that is, you know what I mean? I dedicate this tune to them.”
It wasn’t the only dedication of the evening, as Weller spotted fan “Big Frank” in the audience and performed ‘Stanley Road’ from his 1995 solo album of the same name in his honour.
Before launching into the track, he said: “Alright Frank, I can see you in the audience, this song is for Big Frank. This is from an album that was very popular in the ‘90s and this was the title song. This is ‘Stanley Road’.”

His set was littered with solo classics from the ‘90s, including ‘All the Pictures on the Wall’, Out of the Sinking’, and ‘Peacock Suit’.
Weller’s seminal band The Jam were not forgotten with ‘That’s Entertainment’ and ‘Start!’ drawing some of the biggest cheers of the evening.
After exiting the stage with his band – which includes long-time guitarist Steve Cradock – Weller returned for an encore of fan favourite ‘The Changingman’, ‘Porcelain Gods’, ‘You Do Something To Me’ and ‘Wild Wood’.

Dua Lipa ‘gutted’ to cancel concert

OHMYGOSSIP — Dua Lipa was forced to cancel a gig on Saturday (09.11.24) due to safety concerns.
The ‘Levitating’ hitmaker had arrived in Indonesia for her ‘Radical Optimism’ show at the Indonesia Arena in Jakarta but was left “gutted” when she was advised the performance couldn’t go ahead because of problems with the staging.
She said in a statement shared on X: “I am here in your amazing country and ready to perform, but I am gutted to share that it has been determined that it is not safe for the performance to carry on due to safety issues with the staging.
“I was so looking forward to this night, and it truly pains me that we cannot perform for you all, especially after such a long time since my last performance in Jakarta.”
Dua vowed to return to the country “as soon as possible”.
She concluded: “I love you all and truly can’t wait to be back together in the same room with you singing and dancing our hearts out as soon as possible.”
Organisers TEM Presents and PK Entertainment admitted it had been a “very difficult decision” to cancel the gig but were forced to do so due to “critical production issues”.
They said in a joint statement: “Despite Dua Lipa’s readiness to perform, and the team’s diligent efforts to resolve critical production issues related to the stage structure provided by Mata Elang Productions, it is not safe for the performance to carry on.
“This very difficult decision to cancel was made with the utmost care and consideration for the safety of the audiences and artist.”
The 29-year-old star will next fly to the Philippines for her concert in Manila on Wednesday (13.11.24).

Noel Gallagher has ‘around six tracks’ for potential Oasis album

OHMYGOSSIP — Noel Gallagher has recorded six potential new Oasis songs.
The 57-year-old rocker has been busy in the studio ahead of the group’s reunion tour next year but with previous recording sessions for the group being notoriously volatile as a result of the tension between him and brother Liam Gallagher, the possibility of a row between the pair is being minimised as they would’t have to be in the same room in order to finish the tracks.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Noel has been making new music for a few months and has around six tracks in the bag.
“Now Liam could always add his vocals remotely, to avoid any bust-ups between the two siblings.
“It’s of the utmost importance that they are as harmonious as possible ahead of their massive reunion.
There is intense speculation in the record industry that Noel is to exploit the huge success of their reunion tour to finally invite Liam on his tunes.”
However, the outlet claimed the idea of the songs being recorded for Oasis has been “intensely denied” by Noel and Liam’s “people”, who insisted the brothers’ focus is on the tour.
However, Noel is keen for the band not to be seen as a “nostalgia act”.
The source added: “Noel knows the reunion is about the hits but he doesn’t want them to be purely a nostalgia act.
“He has the tunes ready to go and if things continue to work well with Liam then it could be amazing.”
Liam declared earlier this week he had been “blown away” by the music Noel has been writing for a potential Oasis record.
One fan asked on X: “What do you think of Noel’s new songs he’s written for Oasis?”
The 52-year-old singer replied: “Blown away.”
Liam is known for his blunt interactions with fans on the platform and claimed in September that he and Noel had recorded new songs ahead of the reunion.
A fan asked: “Is it true that Oasis will have a new album???”
Liam responded: “Yep it’s already finished.”
The ‘Live Forever’ rocker heightened expectations further by replying to a question asking if the record was “up in the air” by stating: “It’s in the bag mate f*** the air.(sic)”

Bobby Gillespie felt ‘boxed in’ by Primal Scream

OHMYGOSSIP — Bobby Gillespie felt “boxed in” by Primal Scream’s recent work.
The 63-year-old singer admitted he wasn’t sure if the group would make another record but he had to find another way of working in order to do so, leading to their latest LP ‘Come Ahead’.
He explained to Record Collector magazine: “I wasn’t considering jacking in the Primals, it was more that I really needed to do something different.
“At the beginning of 2020, I sat down and wrote a list of what I did and didn’t want to do. One was write a book so I focused on that.
“Another was that I thought the working method Andrew Innes and I had built exceeded itself, that I had to find another way of writing songs.
“Since 1996, we hadn’t been a band in the way Suede or Blur or other bands from back in the day were.
“We worked more like hip-hop producers, it was studio-based, we’d mess around with electronic loops and drones, then I’d write the words to that piece of music.
“But this time I wanted to start with the words, for it to be more lyric-driven, so I wrote these long songs with stories at home on my own.
“I felt boxed in by the way it had been.”
And Bobby admitted the album could have been a solo record.
