Stevie Nicks to pay tribute to Tom Petty and Christine McVie at BST Hyde Park concert

OHMYGOSSIP — Stevie Nicks will perform musical tributes to Tom Petty and Christine McVie at her BST Hyde Park show this Friday (12.07.24).
The 76-year-old singer duetted with Petty at the London festival in 2017 just months before he passed away in October, aged 66.
During her headline slot, Nicks will perform ‘Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around’, the song the pair recorded for her debut solo album ‘Bella Donna’, released in 1981. It was the track that Stevie performed with Petty seven years ago.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “It was the final time Stevie saw Tom… and now she is back on the same stage so it will doubtless be a very emotional experience.”
For her encore, Nicks is to project a montage of herself with her late Fleetwood Mac bandmate as she sings ‘Landslide’.
Following McVie’s death in November 2022 at the age of 79, Nicks has claimed that Fleetwood Mac would not perform again.
In a recent interview with MOJO magazine, she said: “When Christine died, I felt like you can’t replace her. You just can’t. Without her, what is it? You know what I mean?
“There is no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac back together in any way. Without her, it just couldn’t work.”
Stevie’s BST Hyde Park performance comes after the singer was forced to cancel some of her tour dates after sustaining a leg injury.
The ‘Edge of Seventeen’ singer was due to play a concert at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland, last Saturday (06.07.24), but had to pull out of the gig completely, as well as cancelling her show at Manchester’s Co-Op Live Arena – which was due to take place on Tuesday (09.07.24).
Taking to X, the OVO Hydro account wrote: “Due to a recent leg injury requiring a minor surgical procedure that will need a few days of recovery time, Stevie Nicks’ scheduled performances in Glasgow Saturday 6 July and Manchester Tuesday 9 July have been postponed.
“More information will be available at point of purchase, ticketholders are advised to hold on to their tickets as rescheduled dates will be announced soon. Stevie looks forward to seeing everyone at Hyde Park in London.”

The Killers treat fans to cover song they ‘wish they had written’ at London’s O2

OHMYGOSSIP — Brandon Flowers wishes he’d written The Waterboys’ ‘Whole of the Moon’.
The Killers frontman admitted he’s often “flustered” when he gets asked which tracks he wishes he’d penned himself but having had the time to ponder the question, he opted for the 1998 track and treated fans at London’s The O2 on Sunday (07.07.24) night to the band’s take on the song.
He told the audience: “People ask me all the time ‘What song do you wish you had written’ and I always sort of get flusterd in the moment, there’s so much information going on, so many songs that you love, but I have an answer now, it’s ‘The Whole of the Moon’ by the Waterboys”
“We love performing it and we’re gonna play it for you tonight.”
The band had initially planned to cover The Kinks’ ‘Come Dancing’ after Brandon “stole” a line from the song for the group’s own hit ‘Bones’, but performing it earlier on their ‘Rebel Diamonds’ tour had fallen flat.
He explained: “I was stealing [a line] from Ray Davies and a Kinks song, ‘Come Dancing’.
“I think it was bigger in American than in the UK, definitely in Ireland. We found that out the hard way because we were going to play ‘Bones’ and then ‘Come Dancing’ and I thought it was gonna go off but it was… crickets.
“Everyone write down on your phones, go home and check out ‘Come Dancing’ by The Kinks, the legendary Kinks.
“So when I sing ‘It’s only natural’ [in ‘Bones’], I stole that, I’m a thief – ‘Come Dancing, it’s only natural’. ”
The band were playing the third show of their six-night residency at the venue and have kept things fresh by mixing up their set list each night.
After kicking off with ‘My Own Soul’s Warning’ and the familiar ‘Enterlude’, Brandon teased the audience about their earlier gigs.
Speaking to the crowd before they launched into ‘Human’, he said: “England progress in the Euros and you’re seeing The Killers and Travis in The O2, you must be very good boys and girls.
“Listen, before we go any further I have a confession to make. We’ve been seeing other audiences. In fact we saw another audience on Friday night in this very room. Sure it was fun, but you gotta believe us, it’s different with you.
“Are we gonna go all the way tonight or what? We just need one thing from your first, London do we have your enthusiastic consent? Alright, we’re good to go.
“One more thing, outside it’s a Sunday night in London, not here, it’s a Saturday night and a Killers show.”
Fans sang along enthusiastically as the band barrelled through hit after hit including ‘Somebody Told Me’, ‘Caution’, ‘Runaways’ and closer ‘All These Things I’ve Done’, with spectacular visuals, explosions of confetti and a dazzling laser show all adding to the Las Vegas experience as Brandon and guitarist Dave Keuning prowled the diamond-shaped stage.
The band returned for a four-song encore which featured a tour debut for 2021’s ‘In Another Life’ before timeless classics ‘Mr. Brightside’ and ‘When You Were Young’. Brandon himself then wheeled out his own piano, decorated with a thank you message for fans, as they played out the crowd with ‘Exitlude’.
He also told the audience the gig was a dream come true.
He said: “I don’t know what you were dreaming of when you were young, but we were dreaming of this. Thank you so much for making it possible for us, thank yo for coming tonight.”

Kelly Osbourne ‘regrets’ quitting music

OHMYGOSSIP — Kelly Osbourne still “regrets” quitting her music career almost two decades ago.
The 39-year-old star – whose parents are Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne – topped the charts when she teamed up with her dad on a rendition of his Black Sabbath hit ‘Changes’ in 2003 and she had some success with singles, but her albums ‘Shut Up’ (2002) and ‘Sleeping In The Nothing’ (2005) failed to rise up the rankings.
Asked on ‘The Osbournes’ podcast if she’s ever considered returning to singing, she said: “I’ve definitely thought about it and what life would have been like if I hadn’t stopped.
“It’s definitely a regret. Will I do anything about that regret? I don’t know.”
While her LPs ‘Shut Up’ and ‘Sleeping In The Nothing’ charted at 31 and 57 respectively in the UK, her debut single – a cover of Madonna’s ‘Papa Don’t Preach’ made it to number three.
Despite her love for music, Kelly admitted her reality TV and media commitments meant she struggled to find “any balance” in her life.
Explaining why she quit, she added: “I was doing so much TV, I was doing so much touring and publicity and so many interviews and I just wanted to go out and have fun.
“I didn’t want it to be all work and no play and I didn’t know how to have any balance. It was bad.”
Kelly has worked hard for her career, appearing on shows like ‘Fashion Police’ and ‘Australia’s Got Talent’, and even voicing Hildy Gloom on Disney’s ‘The 7D’.
Despite putting in the work, she previously admitted she is “proud to be a nepo baby”.
She told Rolling Stone magazine: “I’m a f****** nepo baby and I’m proud to be a nepo baby. I’m proud of my parents’ achievements.
“I think that what they have done is incredible, history-making. I go so far as to say both of them are iconic.
“But it doesn’t mean that I should automatically be given all of these opportunities. My parents have always taught me that you have to prove yourself.”

Jade Thirlwall fans are ‘not ready’ for shocking new music, promises collaborator

OHMYGOSSIP — Kamille insists fans are “not ready” for Jade Thirlwall’s new music.
The Little Mix star will release her debut solo single ‘Angel Of My Dreams’ on July 19, and her longtime collaborator – who helped write the girl group’s hits like ‘Black Magic’ and ‘Shout Out To My Ex’ – has been given a sneak peak of the new material.
Kamille told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Oh, you are not ready for the new Jade music. It’s very dreamy, airy.
“No one is going to expect this. I’ve only heard a few songs and it’s worth the wait.”
Jade, who is just going by her first name as her new moniker – has described her first single as “a pop punch to the face”.
Announcing the song, she said in a statement earlier this week: “What I’m going for is a pop punch to the face.
“I want people to be like, ‘Oh my God, I didn’t expect that’ – but then want to listen to it again.”
The 31-year-old singer – who co-wrote the single in Los Angeles with other writers including Steph Jones – wanted to make sure she was taking a risk rather than playing things “safe” with her first track.
She explained: “I didn’t want to do a safe first single, that was really important to me.
“I’m setting the tone of who I am as an artist on my own. I want people to hear it and be like, ‘What the f*** is that song?’
“My worst nightmare is for someone to hear my song and go, ‘That’s nice.’ ”
With Little Mix on hiatus since 2022, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock have already embarked on their own music careers, while Jesy Nelson went solo when she quit the group in 2020.
Now, it’s time for Jade to take the spotlight.
She said: “The fans have waited long enough so now we just want to give it to them.”

Macy Gray and Britney Spears ‘didn’t really hit it off’ in awkward first studio meeting

OHMYGOSSIP — Macy Gray admits she didn’t “really hit it off” with Britney Spears after she interrupted her studio session.
The ‘I Try’ hitmaker was recording in the same studio as Britney when the ‘Toxic’ singer rode into the room on a skateboard, but the 56-year-old star’s fandom made for an awkward exchange.
Appearing on Australia’s ‘The Project’, Macy recalled: “She was in the room down the hall and we looked up and all of a sudden she was skating into our room.
“We talked for a little bit, we didn’t really hit it off. I’m still a groupie to this day. I’m sitting there with Britney Spears, you know, I kinda stuttered, I didn’t know what to say.
“And then she kinda rolled her eyes, whatever I said, she was kinda annoyed by it and she left.”
Despite the uncomfortable meeting, Macy is still huge admirer of the 42-year-old pop star, and she listens to her 2007 album ‘Blackout’ before she goes on stage.
She said: “Best album ever – one of them, anyway!”
As well as lead single ‘Gimme More’, the record also features hits like ‘Piece of Me’ and ‘Break The Ice’.
Macy picked ‘Radar’ as her favourite song on the LP, and revealed how the collection as a whole gives her some “courage” before she steps out on stage to perform.
Pondering why she is so drawn to the LP, she added: “I dunno, it’s just – let’s go, you know? It gives me a little bit of courage.
We all have that little thing that makes you go. For some people it’s just coffee, for me it’s the Blackout album!”
For Macy, this year marks 25 years since her debut album ‘On How Life Is’ topped the charts in Australia and New Zealand as well as the UK R+B rankings, while its second single ‘I Try’ was number one in Australia, New Zealand and Ireland.
Asked when she knew it was a hit, she said: “It was actually in England and I was touring, my manager called and he said, ‘Your album is number one’. I said, ‘What does that mean?’
“And he said, ‘That means they listen to your song more than anybody else’s.’ And then I got to New York at that was the first time I got mobbed.”

Kesha releases first new song since leaving Dr Luke’s label

OHMYGOSSIP — Kesha has released her first new music since leaving Dr Luke’s record label.
The 37-year-old singer left Kemosabe – which is distributed by RCA Records – in December, six months after her long-running legal battle with the producer came to an end and on Thursday (04.07.24) she unveiled her new single ‘Joyride’.
In the defiant and upbeat song, she sings: “Don’t even try to give me s***/ I’ve earned the right to be like this.”
In the chorus, she belts out: “Joy ride, joy ride/ I’m just looking for a good time tonight.”
She debuted the song – her first new material since last year’s album ‘Gag Order’ – over the weekend at Brooklyn’s Planet Pride, before releasing the song as people across the United States celebrate Indepedence Day.
Kesha and music producer Dr. Luke, 50, had been locked in a legal dispute for years after she filed a lawsuit accusing him of drugging and raping her after a party in 2005, prompting the music executive – who denied the allegation – to file a defamation case.
But in June last year, they settled out of court after nearly 10 years, just weeks before they were set to go to trial.
The pair said in a joint statement shared on Kesha’s Instagram stories: “Kesha and Dr Luke have agreed to a resolution of the lawsuit, and have agreed to issue and post a joint statement regarding that resolution.”
It went on to give two separate statements from the pair.
Kesha, previously known as Ke$ha, said: “Only God knows what happened that night. As I have always said, I cannot recount everything that happened.
“I am looking forward to closing the door on this chapter of my life and beginning a new one.
“I wish nothing but peace to all parties involved.”
Dr. Luke, whose real name is Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald, maintained his innocence in his statement below Kesha’s message.
He said: “While I appreciate Kesha again acknowledging that she cannot recount what happened that night in 2005, I am absolutely certain that nothing happened.
“I never drugged or assaulted her and would never do that to anyone. For the sake of my family, I have vigorously fought to clear my name for nearly 10 years.
“It is time for me to put this difficult matter behind me and move on with my life. I wish Kesha well.”

Kasabian have no plans to celebrate 20th anniversary

OHMYGOSSIP — Kasabian are not interested in celebrating the 20th anniversary of their debut album.
The ‘Fire’ hitmakers would rather look to the future and offer something “new” with their album ‘Happenings’ than “look back at memories” of writing the songs on their self-titled record.
Serge Pizzorno – who took over frontman duties in 2020 following the dismissal of Tom Meighan – told The Sun newspaper: “The best way to celebrate 20 years is with new music.
“We’re in our third decade and we have something new to say. We don’t need to look back at memories of writing ‘LSF’.
“We can talk about this new album and how we have explored new music. It’s amazing that we’ve got this legacy, but songwriting is what I love.
“It’s been nice for us all to move on. We’d never go back — I know too much.”
Serge found the group’s 2022 album ‘The Alchemist’s Euphoria’ “hard” to make and knew it was a “test” as to whether they could survive without Tom.
He said: “’Alchemist’ was a hard record to make.
“It was hard for so many reasons, but not many bands this century have had six number ones so it was a nice thing to happen with Alchemist after everything we’d been through.
“We went in at Number One and just carried on.
“Of course it was also a test, yeah. It was a tightrope and that was the fear that this could go horribly wrong.”
But after touring the record, the 43-year-old singer has settled into his new role.
He said: “My path was written and then I was something else. I don’t think I ever gave myself enough time to think about it as it was just about getting through the night.
“Afterwards, when we finished touring, then I did have a moment of letting out a big breath of ‘I can’t believe what’s just happened’.
“I am on this new journey that was never meant to be and I am learning and loving it. I have a lot of respect for frontmen and the audience as well. People pay money to come and be entertained so you’ve got to entertain them.
“I like that simple transaction.”

Andrea Bocelli wants to work with Taylor Swift

OHMYGOSSIP — Andrea Bocelli wants to work with Taylor Swift, so he can impress his daughter.
The 65-year-old singer has previously collaborated with stars including Ed Sheeran, Shania Twain, Nelly Furtado, Jennifer Lopez and Mary J. Blige but he admitted that he wants to record with Taylor because his 12-year-old daughter Virginia is a Swiftie.
Virginia told The Mirror newspaper: “I love Taylor Swift and am going to one of her concerts in a few days. It would be amazing if he worked with her next.”
Andrea added: “I’ve thought about it and it could be a great thing.”
Virginia – whose mother is Veronica Berti – has followed in her father’s footsteps by becoming a singer but he doesn’t want to put any pressure on her.
He said: “When she sings it makes me very happy. Children have to be free, and I hope that when she is older, she does what her heart tells her.”
And Virginia added: “It’s pretty much normal [singing with my dad]… I usually do at least one or two songs and have got used to it now.”
Meanwhile, Virginia recently reflected on their first official performance together, four years ago.
She told ‘Loose Women’: “I think the first time was when I was 8-years-old in Palma. I wasn’t supposed to sing. I’m not sure how it happened.”
Andrea explained: “I had to sing ‘Hallelujah’ and it has a lot of English words so I asked Virginia to learn the song to sing it with me.”
The pair also enjoy singing ‘Bambina Mia’ together, as it holds a special meaning for them.
Virginia said: “The song is about a dad who is talking to his daughter about life and love. I got emotional when I was recording it, it took a long time to record it because I was bawling then my dad noticed and made fun of me.”

Jack Antonoff reflects on ‘wild’ success of TTPD

OHMYGOSSIP — Jack Antonoff has called the success of ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ “wild”.
The Bleachers frontman produced Taylor Swift’s latest album and admitted he is still in shock at how well-received the album has been.
Speaking on the ‘Today’ show, Jack, 40, said: “It’s wild… crazy”.
Jack produced Sabrina Carpenter’s latest single ‘Please Please Please’ and called both singers “the best”.
Jack also admitted he is a workaholic and and said he loves everything about making music.
He explained: “I work not very far away, I work at a studio called Electric Lady and I’m up at the roof — it’s sort of like a little bit of a small apartment up there,” . We make all the records up there and when lots of people hear them, it feels amazing because we’re sort of contained up there.
“You don’t hear a lot of great songs about like, one’s lunch order. So the things you don’t really understand and cause you pain are usually things worth writing about.”
Meanwhile, Jack previously revealed he was “overwhelmed” by the reaction to ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, which he co-produced with The National’s Aaron Dessner and Taylor.
On X, he posted: “[I] love this album more than I can say …. love you all very much … more later very overwhelmed … love you Taylor [sic].”
In two separate posts, Jack – who is credited as a co-writer on several songs – appeared to highlight two tracks on the album, writing “!! FOTS heads lets go !!”, seemingly referencing the song ‘Fresh Out The Slammer’, as well as stating “Down bad heads as well”, referring to the track ‘Down Bad’.
After dropping ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, Taylor shocked her fans by revealing the record was a “secret double album”, adding another 15 songs as ‘The Anthology’.
She posted on social media: “It’s a 2am surprise: ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ is a secret DOUBLE album.
“I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here’s the second instalment of ‘TTPD: The Anthology’. 15 extra songs. And now the story isn’t mine anymore … it’s all yours.”

The ‘Queen of Funk’, 71, was among a raft of stars – including Mark Knopfler, AC/DC, Jessie Ware and Loyle Carner – honoured at the annual ceremony on Friday (05.07.24) at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane, London.
Chaka said after picking up her trophy – awarded “in recognition of her 50 years of international influence”: “Music has always been my solace, my strength, my voice, a gift.
“I’m grateful for this beautiful honour to be part of the Nordoff and Robbins creative community, where the power of music is used to transform, inspire, and bring love to the world. Music really does heal.”
Also honoured at the ceremony were Blur, Texas, The 1975, Ezra Collective, Jacob Collier, Cat Burns and Young Fathers.
Along with paying tribute to some of today’s biggest artists, the awards has so far raised £760,000 and counting for Nordoff and Robbins, the UK’s largest music therapy charity.
Bosses of the ceremony said: “The star-studded event is the biggest of the year for the charity, raising essential funds for music therapy services in an increasingly challenging social climate where costs are rising, children face a mental health crisis and nearly one million people will be living with dementia by 2030.
“Money raised today will support Nordoff and Robbins’ trained music therapists in reaching those living with autism, dementia, learning difficulties, brain injuries, life-limiting illnesses, mental health challenges, grief and trauma; helping them to connect and communicate through music.”
Now in its 48th year, the awards saw AC/DC win the Legend Award, while Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler, 74, landed the Music Icon Award.

Alex James, 55, from Blur said: “Making music with my brothers in blur has been one of the great gifts of my life. We are absolutely chuffed to receive the O2 Silver Clef Award and help raise awareness for Nordoff and Robbins, a brilliant organisation.”
Brian Johnson, 46, from AC/DC said: “We’re over the moon to receive the Amazon Music Legend Award.
“As a band, we’ve been dishing out our own brand of music therapy for the past five decades, so to hear all about how Nordoff and Robbins helps the young and the old with the power of music is something that we understand and salute. Thank you for this honour.”
Mark Knopfler added: “It’s a privilege to support an event that is directly part of such important music therapy work. One of the best parts of being an artist is meeting people who have been touched by your music.
“I think we have all appreciated the power of music in our own lives from time to time. Nordoff and Robbins believes in sharing the value of music with everyone who needs it – that’s why I’m a longtime supporter and will continue to help raise funds so Nordoff and Robbins’ music therapists can continue their vital work.”

Saweetie still gets ‘jitters’ over releasing new songs

OHMYGOSSIP — Saweetie still gets “the jitters” when she releases new music.
The 30-year-old rapper may have released dozens of singles and earned two Grammy award nominations but she is always worried about her tracks will be received, despite her popularity.
She told People magazine: “I get nervous with every release. I can’t help it.
“I get the jitters, I can’t sleep at night and I just feel like I’m sharing such an intimate piece of me because it is created in the studio, and then you eventually share it out into the world.”
Saweetie feels “really grateful” that her latest single ‘Nani’ was so well received.
She said: “This is the first time where I feel like there was just a consensus of it being a good song.
“I didn’t really have to do much fighting online, if you know what I mean. Even the haters was congratulating me, the back-handed compliments… They just have to give credit where credit’s due.
“It was just a great moment. I feel like all artists can appreciate a moment where their art is well received.”
The ‘Best Friend’ hitmaker – whose real name is Diamonte Harper – is now looking ahead to her next batch of music, which she teased will feature “a lot more singing”.
She explained: “There’s songs where there’s a lot of bars straight through. There’s songs where I’m a little bit more vulnerable about certain things that may have happened to me. I just feel like with every song, you get to know me better, and I’m really excited to share that with my fans.”
But Saweetie is in no rush to release her long-delayed debut album, ‘Pretty B.I.T.C.H. Music’, which was first scheduled for release three years ago.
She said: “That first album sets the tone for your career. I’ve really taken my time with this piece of art because it is delicate, it’s sensitive and it means a lot to me.
“I think it is our duty [as artists] to take this art serious.
“Not a lot of people are given this platform. I’m really just grateful to even have the opportunity to make a name for myself that’s recognised globally.
“I still have a lot of work to do, but being that I have so much time to sit with myself and learn myself as a human, as a woman, as a artist, I just feel like I’m ready to share those stories. I have a lot of stories to tell.”

Boys World split

OHMYGOSSIP — Boys World have split up.
The ‘Girlfriend’ group – comprising Olivia Ruby, Queenie Mae Villaluz, Lilian Kay, Makhyli Simpson, and Elana Caceres — have decided to go their separate ways due to “moments of change and transition” in the music industry and other “things that are out of [their] control”.
They wrote in a letter to fans shared online: “After five unforgettable years of music, friendship and memories, we are sadly announcing the disbandment of Boys World.
“Each member of Boys World has grown not just as artists but as sisters, learning from each other and becoming stronger together. We are eternally grateful for these years together.
“We have accepted that there are some things that are out of our control.
“Change can be scary and uncomfortable, but it can be incredibly exciting. It can open doors to opportunities and creative possibilities we’ve never imagined.”
They ended their note thanking their fans for being “the heart of Boys World” and asked they continue to support the individual members as they “embark on new adventures.”
They added: “Though this may be goodbye for now, our music will always live on and so will our friendship. Girlfriends forever.”
The TikTok sensations were tearful as they also shared an emotional video message for fans.
Queenie said: “We went through so much in this group. I can’t even imagine everything we went through without these girls.
“Change is very scary and uncomfortable… This has been our whole world for the last five years.”
Lilian added: “We’ve created so many beautiful memories, and we are so grateful for everything we’ve accomplished together.
“Most of all, we’re grateful that it’s been with each other. And after everything, we still have each other, and that’s the most important part.”
Makhyli said: “So many of our dreams have come true, and we’re so blessed and so lucky to have traveled around the country and perform our music.
“And obviously the best part of it all was just being able to meet you guys, the STARS. We love you.”

Roisin Murphy’s terrifying meeting with Grace Jones

OHMYGOSSIP — Róisín Murphy has detailed her terrifying meeting with Grace Jones.
The 51-year-old singer/songwriter is a huge fan of the 76-year-old icon but admitted getting to meet the star was not one of her finest moments.
She told The Guardian: “I love Grace Jones, but I was petrified of meeting her. A few years back a friend and I went to see her in Florence. She’s one of my biggest influences and she was brilliant that night. We ended up back at the hotel she was staying in because we knew the gig promoter. She walked in, took one look at us, turned to her people, and said, ‘Get these people out of here’.”
Róisín also admitted she thinks today’s culture is “too hedonistic” and she longs for the simpler party times of the 90s.
She explained: “I think our culture is too hedonistic. People really party now, it’s not like it was in the 90s, going out once in a while. The dance scene in the 80s and 90s was so wonderful, but I always thought that pure hedonism was a dead end. I was never interested in that. I was interested in adventure.
“I mourn the passing of that time I knew. No phones, genuine freedom, actual connection with other people.
“My biggest fear is losing my memory. Losing memories of the culture I grew up in. Losing history. I’m always trying to capture memories, to remember them. The fear is in me that I won’t be able to find them, I won’t remember these things any more.”
