Joel Corry works out to his own music

OHMYGOSSIP — Joel Corry loves listening to his own music while he’s working out.
The ‘Head and Heart’ hitmaker thinks that hearing his songs in another environment, such in the gym, helps him perfect his chart toppers.
The 32-year-old music producer told his followers during Instagram Live: “I actually like listening to music that I’m working on when I’m in the gym because when you listen to it in the studio, it’s almost like you’re thinking about it too much.
“When you listen to it in other environments, you actually hear what needs to be changed or tweaked.”
The former ‘Geordie Shore’ star has other places that he likes to crank his tunes up, such as his car, giving pedestrians a taste of his latest hit.
He said: “The car’s a good one. The windows have to go down, the volume goes up. I annoy everyone.”
The former personal trainer’s techniques appear to be working as he is up for two BRIT Awards: Song of Year for his work on ‘Bed’ with David Guetta and Raye as well as Dance Act.
The winners will be announced at the BRITs ceremony in London on 8 February, 2022.

Bree Runway skipped on a performance for Queen Elizabeth

OHMYGOSSIP — Bree Runway once skipped a performance for Queen Elizabeth.
The ‘All Night’ rapper was still at high school when she was set to headline a performance which was to be attended by the now 95-year-old British monarch but she pulled out over a phone drama.
In an interview with Wonderland magazine, she said: “I was meant to sing lead for the Queen one time and I lost my phone and it p***** me off, so I didn’t go. [My school] hated me for that.”
The BET Award winner – real name Brenda Wireko Mensah – didn’t let history repeat itself when former First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama was in her audience.
Bree spilled: “She stood up for me, came up to me and gave me a high five. She said, ‘You were fabulous, girl.’
“Before she left, she said, ‘I just want to tell you, keep going, whatever it is, just keep going. You’re gonna be a star.'”
Elsewhere in the interview with the publication, Bree revealed that Megan Thee Stallion is top of her list for a collaboration, and she has already reached out to her via Twitter.
She said: “Everything is very special that’s happening to me. I wasn’t expecting Meg to tweet back and then she did.”

Frank Turner releases new single A Wave Across A Bay as emotional tribute to Scott Hutchison

OHMYGOSSIP — Frank Turner has paid an emotional tribute to the late Scott Hutchison on his new single ‘A Wave Across A Bay’.
The 40-year-old musician was close friends with the Frightened Rabbit frontman – who tragically took his own life in May 2018 – and he has penned a song in his memory for his upcoming album ‘FTHC’.
After unveiling the track on Wednesday evening (12.01.22), he tweeted: “I still miss my friend Scott every day. His passing left such a huge hole in so many lives.
“I wrote this song in his honour and memory, it was hard to write and record, but I think it does the man some small justice.”
The song is intentionally reminiscent of Scott’s own work with Frightened Rabbit in terms of the production, while Death Cab For Cutie drummer Jason McGerr – another friend of Scott’s – plays on the recording.
Frank added: “Fun fact: Jason McGerr from @dcfc (a friend of Scott’s) played drums on this one, and did a fine job.
“The whole production of the song is, hopefully obviously, part of the tribute to Scott and the wider, amazing work of @FRabbits. Did my best to find their measure. (sic)”
Meanwhile, the ‘The Way I Tend To Be’ hitmaker also confirmed a special charity release with funds being donated to Tiny Changes, which was set up in Scott’s memory.
He said: “There’s also a charity 7″ with proceeds going to @tinychanges – an amazing charity created in memory of Scott, helping create positive change for children & young people’s mental health.”
In the emotionally-charged track, Frank sings to his late friend and paints a picture of him as “a wave across a bay, never breaking”.
He sings: “There must have been a moment, just before you hit the water, when you were filled with a sense of peace and understanding.
“With the wind in your hair and a light in your eyes, as you realized you were finally escaping.
“But somehow in that moment, you miraculously miss it, like a wave across a bay never breaking.
“And that’s how I like to think of you, ever falling, never landing. Rolling slowly out to sea and always smiling, you were always smiling.”

Harry Styles, Billie Eilish and Kanye West to headline Coachella

OHMYGOSSIP — Harry Styles, Billie Eilish and Kanye West will headline this year’s Coachella festival.
The spectacle, fully titled the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, will return across two weekends, April 15th to 17th and April 22nd to 24th, at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, for the first time in two years due to the coronavirus pandemic.
One Direction star Harry will headline both Fridays, on April 15th and 22nd, and Billie will be the main act on the Saturdays (April 16th and 23rd).
Kanye – who is officially on the bill as Ye, his legal name – will close both weekends on Sunday 17th and 24th.
Other artists who will perform at the festival include Lil Baby, Big Sean, and Black Coffee, who will play on the two Fridays.
Before Billie takes to the stage for her shows, Flume, Megan Thee Stallion, Disclosure, 21 Savage, and Koffee will perform.
Acts on the Sundays include Doja Cat, Joji, Jamie xx, Karol G, Fatboy Slim, Maneskin, and Duke Dumont.
Swedish House Mafia will also return to the festival.
The official announcement comes after Kanye and Billie were rumoured to be performing at the music extravaganza.
Billie previously performed on a smaller stage in 2019, and ‘Stronger’ hitmaker Kanye was said to have been asked to perform in 2019, but dropped out.
In October, Coachella reversed its requirement for attendees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
It now states on their website that a negative test or vaccination is required.
Under the Health & Safety Rules section, it reads: “Our current entry policy for Coachella allows for negative covid test taken within 72 hours of the event OR proof of full vaccination.”

Sir Elton John bought Sam Fender a vintage guitar

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Elton John had a vintage guitar sent to Sam Fender.
The 74-year-old music legend has been good friends with the 27-year-old rocker ever since he performed at the ‘Tiny Dancer’ hitmaker’s Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar viewing party in 2020.
And Elton’s guitarist, Davey Johnstone, has revealed that the ‘Rocket Man’ hitmaker asked him to pick out a special gift for the ‘Seventeen Going Under’ hitmaker.
Speaking on the ‘Greatest Music of All Time’ podcast, he said: “Last year Elton called me and said, ‘I wanna get a guitar for Sam.’
“So I went to one of my local stores.
“I played a few things and I found this powder blue Strat (Stratocaster) with a couple of nice dents in it and scrapes so it looks really cool.
“Evidently Sam loved it.”
Sam recently promised to “definitely” collaborate with Elton in the future.
The ‘Play God’ rocker’s packed schedule in 2021 meant he had to reject an offer to team up with the iconic musician on his ‘Lockdown Sessions’ album.
Sam explained: “It sounds awful to say, ‘I was too busy to work with Elton’, but I needed to finish my album.
“Me and Elton will definitely happen at some point. We just need to find time to get into the studio.
“We want to make something special together. I’d love us to make something stripped back, that sounds organic with a band.”
The musician might have some more time on his hands as he admitted such an intense workload means he’s already got material written for his third album.
He said: “That album was a tough labour. I wrote about 60 songs for it. Some of those songs will carry over to my next record, as I didn’t finish all of them.
“I know that I’ll look back at some of them and think, ‘That’s great! Why didn’t that make Seventeen?’
“A hell of a lot of work went into that album but, about halfway through recording, we kept having moments of looking at each other and just giggling.
“That’s when I thought, ‘We’ve done something good here.’ ”

Sir Rod Stewart postpones Australian tour due to COVID-19

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Rod Stewart’s Australian tour has been cancelled due to the surge in COVID-19 cases.
The ‘One More Time’ singer was due to play nine concerts Down Under in March and April 2022, but the “ongoing surge of COVID in Australia and the reimposition of entertainment venue capacity limits in several states”, has forced the concerts to be axed.
In a statement issued by Live Nation, Rod said: “My dear friends, once again I feel we’ve all been cheated by this evil disease, so it is with great regret that I announce my shows for 2022 have had to be cancelled.
“My thoughts are with all your families at this difficult time as we come out of the joyous and hopefully safe holiday season and I look forward to returning to Australia as soon as the health situation permits.”
The 77-year-old rocker is “absolutely gutted” and has vowed to bring “the party to end all parties” to Oz as soon as it’s safe to do so.
He concluded: “I’m absolutely gutted with disappointment and when I do eventually get there we‘ll have the party to end all parties. Guaranteed.”
While it’s a blow for Australian fans, Rod still has his 2022 UK and US tour in support of his 31st studio album, ‘The Tears of Hercules’.
The UK arena run kicks off in Nottingham on November 16, before heading to London, Glasgow, Liverpool, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester, and wrapping in Newcastle on December 22.
The musician has missed performing on stage so much amid the global pandemic that he recently admitted he would have jumped at the chance to play to a room full of coffins, because he’s so “desperate” to hit the stage.
Rod said last summer: “I’d play to a room full of coffins right now, I’m so desperate to perform.
“I’ve got October in Vegas looking forward to that but we really go mad next year, touring seven months out of 12.”

Atomic Kitten slam ageist music industry

OHMYGOSSIP — Atomic Kitten have slammed the music industry as ageist.
The ‘Whole Again’ hitmakers are gearing up for their comeback shows supporting ‘All Rise’ hitmakers Blue later this year, and 39-year-old Natasha Gay – who is joined by Liz McClarnon, 40, and Jenny Frost, 43, in the girl group – says she is “sick” of record labels snubbing female artists who are above the age of 25.
The girls were speaking in a new clip of them reviewing the first season of ’90s girl group comedy, ‘Girls5eva’ – which is available on Peacock UK, Sky and NOW – when Natasha remarked: “Do you know what I am sick of? In the industry, it’s like it’s not below 25, like you’ve had your day.
“No, b***hes, we are back.”
Natasha also admitted she wishes she’d have “stood” her “ground” more when they were starting out in the music business because they agreed to do a lot of stuff they didn’t really want to do.
She admitted: “When we were younger, sometimes it was like, ‘Jump’ and we’d say, ‘How high?’, and we ended up doing a lot of s*** that we didn’t want to do.
“There are a lot of things that I look back and think, I wish I’d have stood me ground more.”
Liz then admitted: “I was – and even until recently – afraid of a lot of stuff, my anxiety was through the roof.”
Elsewhere, Jenny admitted that while they were a party band back in the day, they would never call in sick with a hangover.
She said: “We used to party quite a lot, but I will say, I never miss a day’s work because of a hangover.”
‘Girls5eva’ – which was a huge hit in the US and has been commissioned for a second season – follows “a one-hit-wonder girl group from the ’90s who get a chance at a comeback when their song is sampled by an up-and-coming rapper. Its members then reunite to give their pop star dreams one more shot. They may be grown women balancing spouses, kids, jobs, debt, aging parents, and shoulder pain, but can’t they also be Girls5eva?”
You can watch Atomic Kitten’s review of ‘Girls5eva’ on the @PeackockTVUK social channels. All eight episodes of ‘Girls5eva’ Season 1 are streaming now on Peacock, available on Sky and NOW in the UK & Ireland.

Yungblud warns fans they will be ‘shocked’ by his ‘most personal’ album

OHMYGOSSIP — Yungblud says his upcoming album is “completely uncensored, completely outrageously”.
The ‘Fleabag’ hitmaker – whose real name is Dom Harrison – is known for his honest and vulnerable lyrics and admitted his fans will be “shocked” by his follow-up to 2020’s ‘Weird!’, because it’s “the most personal music” he’s ever made.
Speaking on the latest episode of ALT CTRL on Apple Music 1, he said: “I’ve been in London. I’ve been making kind of the third record and I’m just so excited about it. This is, for me, the most personal music I’ve ever written.
“And I think people are going to be a bit shocked about that because all my other music is pretty personal.
“I think I just need to say it as it is completely uncensored, completely outrageously. And I think this is what this album’s doing. You know what I mean? That’s what I do.
“And my favorite songs I’ve ever released are the songs that do that. So, you know what I mean? Get ready.”
Yungblud admitted he would love to collaborate with Willow Smith, as he teased some “cool” features on the hotly-awaited LP.
He said: “There’s a lot of cool artists I’m working with on this next record. I’ve made a lot of friends. I made a lot of mates on this journey.
“I love what Willow Smith’s doing right now. I’m obsessed with Girl in Red.
“There’s a new wave of artists who are talking from their soul and their reality.
“You know what I’m saying? I ain’t confirming anything but I would certainly love to work with them.”
The ‘Mars’ rocker also admitted he doesn’t see himself as a musician and would prefer to be remembered as a “communicator who spoke to people”.
He said: “I don’t even consider myself a musician. There’s a lot better singers and there’s a lot better guitar players, a lot better musical people than me. I’m a communicator. That’s what I want to do. I would despise to be remembered as a great musician. And I know that sounds crazy. And a lot of people would kill me for that statement, but I’d rather be remembered as a communicator who spoke to people.”

Avril Lavigne unveils new album, Love Sux

OHMYGOSSIP — Avril Lavigne has announced her new album, ‘Love Sux’.
The 37-year-old singer’s eagerly-awaited follow-up to 2019’s ‘Head Above Water’ will be released on February 25.
The 12-tracker includes the previously released single ‘Bite Me’ and the new Blackbear-featuring track ‘Love It When You Hate Me’, which is out on Friday (14.01.22).
Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus also makes an appearance on the song ‘All I Wanted’ and Machine Gun Kelly is featured on ‘Bois Lie’.
The ‘Girlfriend’ hitmaker – who has returned to her pop-punk roots – recently described the LP as a “love letter to women and self-empowerment”.
She said: “The spirit and the energy of this record is so much fun.”
The album will be released through Travis Barker’s DTA Records and Avril recently praised the Blink-182 drummer for being a “blast” to work with.
She said: “Well, it all started with Blink 182 being one of my favourite bands.
“And I have admired Travis my entire career.
“We worked together on ‘The Best Damn Thing’ on that album and he played drums.
“And then on this, Travis is producing, we’re writing together and we just had such a blast collaborating in the studio.
“Now, I’m signed to DTA Records, which is his label, and it just felt like a natural fit it and it made sense.
“And I think creatively, we just click, he gets me. Working with Travis, you’re totally right.
“Where he’s like, ‘Well, what do you want?’ And he’s like, ‘Here’s my opinion. Here’s what I think.’ But ultimately he’s like, ‘I want it to be your decision. I want you to be happy with it.’
“Because he gets it because he’s an artist. He’ll like to sit around, chat with me, give me his opinion and feedback.
“But ultimately of course I’m going to listen to him, but he’s like, ‘Make the decision for yourself.’ So yeah, it’s been cool.”

The ‘Love Sux’ tracklisting is as follows:
1. ‘Cannonball’
2. ‘Bois Lie’ (featuring Machine Gun Kelly)
3. ‘Bite Me’
4. ‘I Love It When You Hate Me’ (featuring blackbear)

Judas Priest announce departure of touring guitarist Andy Sneap

OHMYGOSSIP — Judas Priest have announced the departure of touring guitarist Andy Sneap.
Rob Halford and co are due to hit the road in March and they’ve announced that they will be without the 52-year-old rocker – who co-produced the heavy metal group’s last studio effort, 2018’s ‘Firepower’.
In a statement, they said: “Big thanks to Andy for all you’ve done and continuing to be in the production team for our new album.”
Priest added that Glenn Tipton, who has limited his performances with the group since 2018 after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, will be playing “here and there”.
Andy admitted that while he respects the decision, he found it “incredibly disappointing” to learn he will no longer be a member of the live line-up.
He wrote in a separate statement: “Rob called me last Monday and said they wanted to move on as a four-piece, which I find incredibly disappointing after this amount of time but I respect his decision as they obviously have a vision [of] how they want this to play out.
“This always was a temporary situation, and like I’ve said before, I’ll always help the band any way I can, and that applies going forward also.
“I’ve been a huge fan of the band since the early ’80s and it was mind-blowing to play onstage with the guys and quite frankly terrifying in the beginning at such short notice.”
However, he can’t wait to continue working on their new record.
Andy added: “We are moving forward with the new album next month and look forward to making a killer follow-up to ‘Firepower’.”
Glenn, 74, was forced to give up long periods on the road because he’s struggling to play the more “challenging” songs, due to the symptoms of the degenerative disorder which affects the nervous system.

The Weeknd reveals Dawn FM is part of a trilogy

OHMYGOSSIP — The Weeknd has teased that ‘Dawn FM’ is part of a trilogy.
The ‘Tears in the Club’ singer appeared to reveal that a third album is to follow 2020’s ‘After Hours’ and its follow-up, which was released to acclaim last week.
Alongside the artwork for his latest LP, which is a photograph of his older self, The Weeknd – whose real name is Abel Tesfaye – told his 15.4 million Twitter followers: “I wonder… did you know you’re experiencing a new trilogy?”
The ‘Take My Breath’ hitmaker is yet to provide any more details, such as which three albums will make up the trilogy.
However, many fans believe ‘After Hours’ will be included.
The ‘Blinding Lights’ hitmaker launched ‘Dawn FM’ with the global 103.5 Dawn FM’ livestream experience on the Amazon Music Channel on Twitch and the Amazon Music App.
The title track sees Hollywood star Jim Carrey play a radio host, who vows “we’ll be there to hold your hand and guide you through this painless transition”, before launching into the synth-heavy track, ‘Gasoline’.
The star-studded collection also features guest spots from Tyler, the Creator and Lil Wayne, while synth maestro, Oneohtrix Point Never, real name Daniel Lopatin, and Quincy Jones are listed as collaborators.
The latter contributed the heartbreaking passage, ‘A Tale By Quincy’.
The 16-tracker concludes with another spoken-word piece from 59-year-old Carrey.
The profound recording includes the verse: “If pain’s living on when your body’s long gone.
“And your phantom regret hasn’t let it go yet.
“You may not have died in the way that you must
“All specters are haunted by their own lack of trust.
“When you’re all out of time, there’s nothing but space.
“No hunting, no gathering.
“No nations, no race.
“And Heaven is closer than those tears on your face.
“When the purple rain falls.
“We’re all bathed in its grace.”

Jonas Blue’s collaboration with Why Don’t We was down to their fans

OHMYGOSSIP — Jonas Blue was convinced to work with Why Don’t We by the band’s fans.
The ‘Don’t Wake Me Up’ hitmaker – who collaborated with the US boyband on the new track – has followed Ed Sheeran’s example by working with the quintet, but it wasn’t an instant “yes”.
He told the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column: “I didn’t know too much about them, as soon as Jonah [Marais] messaged me in 2019, I realised how supportive their fans are and everything that they messaged was getting thousands of retweets.
“Fans just kept writing to me like, ‘Please do this’. I checked him out and checked the band out and I just fell in love with their voices.”
He admitted he’s a “huge fan” of their sound, and opened up on their writing process.
He added: “I love that kind of youthful, especially American, sounding vocal and I was a huge fan.
“We started speaking and it was in the works for quite some time now and like all of my songs, it started on an acoustic and it was all remote.
“It kind of started out with me just playing some chords and then both of us going back and forth working on the song.”
The DJ noted it’s been a “long process”, but he was delighted with the amount of input the band had on all aspects of the songs.
They’re yet to actually meet after communicating “over Zoom and FaceTime”, and a planned video shoot was postponed “a few weeks ago”.
Jonas explained” I was due to meet them a few weeks ago to shoot the video in LA but it got postponed.
“They’re incredible guys and they’ve got a huge career over in the US and the thing that I always love to do is find new talent that hasn’t broken in the UK, Europe or Asia.”

Dua Lipa to film tour for potential concert film or doc

OHMYGOSSIP — Dua Lipa will be joined by a camera crew on her upcoming ‘Future Nostalgia’ tour.
The pop megastar is said to be considering whether or not to release a concert film or documentary of her upcoming run, which is due to kick off in Miami on February 9.
If she does, the ‘Levitating’ hitmaker would follow in the footsteps of the likes of Pink and Lady Gaga, who released ‘ All I Know So Far’ and ‘Five Foot Two’ on Amazon Prime and Netflix, respectively.
An insider told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Dua is one of the most in-demand stars in the world right now. Everyone wants a piece of her.
“Her team has been approached by various companies who are really eager to get a concert film or documentary with the singer.
“Dua is particular about what she does and won’t agree to anything she is not happy with. But she has signed off on having a cameraman on the road with her to capture everything that goes down.
“She thinks it would be cool to do a documentary but it would have to be for the right reasons, so she is just going to see how it goes.
“As well as preparing for the tour she has been working on her third album, so the sky is the limit right now.
“But if she does decide to turn the footage into a film, she could make a fortune because every streaming service would be eager to have her on board.”
In 2020, the 26-year-old Grammy-winner put on the live-stream extravaganza ‘Studio 2054’ in support of ‘Future Nostalgia’, and she is once again working with the same production company on her tour.
The ‘Don’t Start Now’ hitmaker’s star-studded virtual event – which included appearances from Kylie Minogue, Sir Elton John and Miley Cyrus – pulled in millions of viewers, including over 1.9 million unique log-ins from China, 95,000 from India, and over 263,200 tickets sold on regular ticketing platforms.
Dua tweeted at the time: “I am BEYOND excited to let you know that Studio 2054 had over 5 MILLION viewers globally on Friday night !!! – thank you so much to everyone for tuning in!!
“I’m also so happy to announce that we’ve kept the show available to watch until Sunday !! !! !! (sic)”

The Rolling Stones honoured with stamp collection

OHMYGOSSIP — The Rolling Stones are being immortalised in stamp form.
Royal Mail has announced a set of 12 stamps in tribute to the iconic rock ‘n’ roll band to mark their 60th anniversary.
A number of the stamps will feature some of the ‘Gimme Shelter’ rockers’ most iconic performances, including 1969’s London Hyde Park concert, which was held two days after the passing of founding member Brian Jones on July 5.
The Stones In The Park gig saw Mick Taylor step in the late guitarist’s shoes and he was later replaced by current member Ronnie Wood.
The band’s sets at the Knebworth Festival in August 1976, and in Rotterdam from the summer of 1995 also made the cut.
There are also two photographs of the band and two of their world tour posters.
The Rolling Stones – now comprising Sir Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, both 78, and Ronnie, 74, following the passing of drummer Charlie Watts aged 80 in August 2021 – have become the fourth band to be honoured with a stamp collection by Royal Mail, following in the footsteps of The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Queen.
Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John, and the late David Bowie have also got the stamp treatment in recent years.
David Gold, Royal Mail’s director of public affairs and policy, said: “Few bands in the history of rock have managed to carve out a career as rich and expansive as that of the Rolling Stones.
“They have created some of modern music’s most iconic and inspirational albums, with ground-breaking live performances to match.”
Collectors can get their hands on the Stones’ collection from January 20.

The ‘Circles’ hitmaker spent his time in lockdown working on his fourth studio effort and previously explained that he had been trying to turn the “darkest of times” into “something beautiful” with his new tunes, which he teased are “the best” he’s made so far.
Malone said he was “just vib[ing]-out and [seeing] where my brain takes me — this has been a perfect time to make music, and to write songs about what’s going on currently.”
He continued: “I’m working on an album now.
“There’s so much to say in these times that will give people hope and hopefully uplift people’s spirits. Because it’s a dark time in America. It’s a dark time in the world.
“Honestly, for a songwriter to be in the house all day is a blessing and a curse. In the darkest of times I’m just trying to make something beautiful out of it.”
The music star – whose real name is Austin Richard Post – really tried to push himself outside of his comfort zone.
He added: “I wanted to take more steps outside of my comfort range and make music that I think – to me – is some of the best I’ve made.
“And I probably say that every album cycle, but for me it feels so special. I want to make an album that will uplift and show that people are not alone in their times of loneliness and worry and that at the end of the day we all just need to show love to everyone on the planet and figure things out.
“So we’re working pretty hard, and I think we’re making some incredible stuff.”

Sir Paul McCartney pays tribute to Janice Long

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Paul McCartney was left “very sad” following the death of Janice Long.
The Beatles singer has paid tribute to the veteran broadcaster – who was the first woman to regularly host ‘Top of the Pops’ – after she passed away at her home on Christmas Day (25.12.21) aged 66 following a short illness.
Paul took to Twitter on Friday (07.01.22) to share a photo of himself and his “old Liverpudlian friend” standing around a jukebox and wrote: “I was very sad to hear that my old Liverpudlian friend Janice Long has passed away.
“Janice was a fun-loving lady who always had a twinkle in her eye. She was very knowledgeable about the music scene and whenever we met it was a pleasure and we had a great laugh.”
In a separate tweet, he added: “My sympathies go out to her family and friends. We have all lost a great Scouse girl, but I will always have very fond memories of her and of the times we spent together. Paul x.(sic)”
Following the death of Janice – who was the first woman to have her own daily show on BBC Radio 1 and championed artists such as Amy Winehouse, Adele and Primal Scream before they achieved chart success – a number of other musicians paid tribute to her and the support she had offered over the years.
Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess tweeted: “Janice Long was a supporter and mentor for so many bands. To hear our records on her show was always the biggest thrill – her enthusiasm and love shone through. One of a kind. Safe travels, we’ll miss ya (sic)”
Peter Hook – from Joy Division and New Order – added: “Such sad news about Janice Long. She was always a great friend and a great supporter of our music. She was a lovely lady to be around.”
Prior to her death, Janice – whose brother was the late TV presenter Keith Chegwin – had a show on BBC Radio Wales four nights per week and also presented a Saturday afternoon show on the Greatest Hits Radio station.
Her husband Paul Berry said: “I’ve lost the love of my life and I’m going to spend the rest of it half a person. She had my back from the day we met, you couldn’t possibly ask for more loyalty from a wife.”
