OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher is considering performing Oasis’ ‘I Can See A Liar’ at his solo shows.
The Britpop legends’ former frontman has told a fan on Twitter that he has a desire to sing the track from 2000’s ‘Standing on the Shoulder of Giants’.
The follower asked: “If you could sing an oasis song that you haven’t sung in several years, what song would it be? (sic)”
And the ‘For What It’s Worth’ hitmaker replied: “I can see a liar is tickling my maltesesrs these days (sic)”
‘I Can See A Liar’ was only performed a handful of times by Oasis, the last time being on May 2, 2000, on ‘Late Show With David Letterman’ in New York.
For their fourth studio album, ‘Standing on the Shoulders of Giants’, Oasis hired a new producer in Mike ‘Spike’ Stent, who has been working on Liam’s new solo record.
Liam is set to give his new solo single, ‘Everything’s Electric’, its live debut at The BRIT Awards with Mastercard on February 8.
The tune is taken from his eagerly-awaited third solo LP, ‘C’mon You Know’, and is released on February 4.
It’s his first new music since December 2020’s standalone festive number, ‘All You’re Dreaming Of’.
The 49-year-old rocker has also teased his follow-up to 2019’s ‘Why Me? Why Not.’ sounds like The Rolling Stones meets Beastie Boys.
He told another fan on the micro-blogging site: “The stones meets The beastie boys (sic)”
Last week, Liam teased a “big announcement” leading to some of his 3.5 million followers to speculate that he may have reconciled with his estranged brother Noel Gallagher and the pair were reuniting Oasis, following their split in 2009.
His post read: “Big announcement tmoz and I mean BIG bigger than my nose bigger than rkids rite said Fred f****** massive so stay tuned LG x”
His real announcement led one fan to ask “So Oasis ain’t getting back together then?”
To which the ‘Some Might Say’ hitmaker replied: “Not yet RKID.”
Liam announced in November 2021 that he had finished recording his third solo album.
The ‘Supersonic’ singer took to Twitter to share the news that his upcoming record had been sent to Spike to be mixed.
Lifelong Manchester City Football Club fan Liam wrote: “My 3rd record is finished off to be mixed by the mighty SPIKE who is a Man Utd fan so god knows what it’ll come back like only kidding he’s very professional unlike his football team C’mon you know LG x.”
‘C’mon You Know’ is set to be released on May 27, 2022, and follows his first two solo records ‘As You Were’ and ‘Why Me? Why Not.’
Liam is set for a huge 2022 as he will be performing at Knebworth on June 3 and June 4.
Oasis famously played to a record 250,000 fans at Knebworth across two days in August 1996. The mammoth shows were remembered in the documentary, ‘Oasis Knebworth 1996’, in honour of the 25th anniversary.
The ‘Wall of Glass’ singer is also headlining the Etihad Stadium – the home of Manchester City – on 1 June, and has also added a concert at Glasgow’s famous Hampden Park on 26 June.

OHMYGOSSIP — Mark Ronson has heaped praise on Maneskin’s “wildly refreshing” ‘Saturday Night Live’ performance.
The ‘Uptown Funk’ hitmaker took to Twitter to declare how “shocked” he was by the “big full sound” coming from the ‘Eurovision’ 2021 winners on the late-night US programme at the weekend.
The Italian rockers performed their popular cover of The Four Seasons’ ‘Beggin” and fan-favourite ‘I WANNA BE YOUR SLAVE’ for their live debut on the legendary show, prompting the studio wizard to react: “shocked by how wildly refreshing it was to hear a big full sound coming from three musicians, one singer and zero backing track on @nbcsnl last night. Nice one @thisismaneskin (sic)”
Maneskin – comprising Damiano David, Victoria De Angelis, Ethan Torchio, and Thomas Raggi – shot to international stardom after winning the televised song contest with their song ‘Zitti e Buoni’.
The ‘SNL’ gig comes after they supported The Rolling Stones in Las Vegas on their ‘No Filter US Tour’ in November, and they made their US television debut on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ the month prior.
Meanwhile, Maneskin recently insisted they are more “satisfied” to hear their fans’ stories of how they inspired them to come out or dress a certain way, than becoming the biggest band on the planet.
Their 23-year-old singer Damiano said: “A lot of fans tell us, ‘You helped my coming out to my parents’ or ‘I just up like I want to because I never felt confident before’.
“That’s more meaningful than any gold record, and makes us satisfied. It’s more than music.”
And the star insisted there are no egos in the group.
He added: “We won’t change, if you are a d***head and you became famous, you’re are a famous d***head – but if you are a good person who becomes famous, then you are a famous good person.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Charlie Puth made “most of” his new album on TikTok.
The ‘We Don’t Talk Anymore’ hitmaker, who confirmed his eponymous-titled follow-up to 2018’s ‘Voicenotes’ is now complete, has revealed how he used the video-sharing platform to create the new songs.
Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, he said: “I’m going to call the album, ‘Charlie’. It’s done. I’ve made most of it on TikTok. My goal for this album is for everybody to know every song title before it comes out. I love the fact that ‘Light Switch’ has been teased for months, and people are making bootlegs of it. Some producers have even taken, run it through Isotope, and taken the acapella’s, and made their own versions of ‘Light Switch’. I love that. I think music should be twisted and pulled in many different directions. That was just the goal for this album, and I’m really excited for people to hear it.”
Charlie explained how he scrapped his original songs for the album as he didn’t like any of the music he was making in 2019, before turning to TikTok amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said: “I didn’t really like any of the music that I put out in 2019, and I didn’t want to make an album of that. Didn’t feel very authentic. I felt like I was kind of pretending to be a cool guy.
“So, I scrapped that, and then, 2020, of course, happened. It was kind of a year of reset, but I was happy of that year of reset, because I really got to build up the TikTok thing, and everybody kind of made fun of me at first for focusing so much on TikTok.”
The ‘How Long’ singer added how TikTok is a “safe place” where he can reach out and connect with his fans.
He said: “It is a safe place, and what I fell in love with originally is that people are being quirky and vulnerable. Even recently there, as I do browsing late at night, I saw a kid who was crying because he didn’t get into Juilliard. I’m thinking to myself, I didn’t get into Juilliard either. I wonder if I should let them know that sometimes things end up the way that they’re supposed to like they did for me. And I did. I think it made them feel better. It was almost like a blanket statement for everybody that sometimes rejection can be a beautiful thing, where it leads you down a path that you didn’t even know existed.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Mick Jagger got a thrill out of playing tiny club gigs in between stadium shows, according to Joe Satriani.
The Rolling Stones frontman, 78, recruited the 65-year-old guitarist for his solo tour in 1988 and has recalled how much ‘Satisfaction’ the rocker got out of playing surprise sets at bars.
Speaking to Ultimate Classic Rock, the former guitar teacher – who mentored Metallica’s Kirk Hammett – shared: “It seemed like once a month we would find a bar somewhere and we would make a deal with the local band that we would just walk in and take over their gear. And if we needed to bring an extra guitar, we would. But pretty much we plugged in to whatever they had.
“It was always great, just to see Mick turn it on when he’s literally 12 inches away from the audience.
And they can touch him and everything. He loved playing blues songs and rock and roll favourites and stuff. We all got a kick out of it.”
The pair would sneak in via the back entrance and quickly disappear as soon as they finished their set.
Satriani added: “The whole thing was crazy, because we’d pull up in these SUVs all clandestine like, you know, because of Mick. He’s such a famous person he had to be handled very carefully. But he loved it, he just loved being with people. He loved performing and to just stand next to him while he exuded this positive rock and roll energy was just, oh man it was worth every second. It was just amazing.
“I stood next to him on the stage at the Tokyo Dome in front of 95,000 people and in front of this little club where people, where there couldn’t have been more than 80 or 100 people, totally packed into this teeny thing.
“The stage was about six inches high. He loved it though, doing ‘Little Red Rooster’ in a little club like that, everyone’s drinking and having a great time. It was fun. We’d go in there, play for 45 minutes and run out. And then go have a party back at the hotel!”

OHMYGOSSIP — Bob Dylan has sold his entire back catalogue of recorded music to Sony in a deal thought to be worth around $200 million.
The agreement features all of the legendary musician’s work since 1962, starting with his self-titled debut album, and up to 2020’s ‘Rough and Rowdy Ways’, and the 80-year-old star – who has sold more than 125 million records worldwide – is pleased to have signed the landmark deal.
Bob said: “Columbia Records and Rob Stringer have been nothing but good to me for many, many years and a whole lot of records.
“I’m glad that all my recordings can stay where they belong.”
While Sony have not confirmed the financial details, Billboard estimates Bob’s master recordings are now worth $200 million or more.
Bob – who is known for songs such as ‘Mr. Tambourine Man’, ‘Like A Rolling Stone’ and ‘Make You Feel My Love’ – was signed to Sony Music Entertainment’s (SME) Columbia Records in October 1961 by the label’s John Hammond, and he recorded his debut album that same year.
Rob Stringer, Chairman, Sony Music Group added: “Columbia Records has had a special relationship with Bob Dylan from the beginning of his career and we are tremendously proud and excited to be continuing to grow and evolve our ongoing 60-year partnership.
“Bob is one of music’s greatest icons and an artist of unrivalled genius.
“The essential impact he and his recordings continue to have on popular culture is second to none and we’re thrilled he will now be a permanent member of the Sony Music family.
“We are excited to work with Bob and his team to find new ways to make his music available to his many fans today and to future generations.”
This comes after Bruce Springsteen sold his entire back catalogue of music to Sony in December, for an estimated $500 million.
And earlier this month, Warner Chappell Music purchased the publishing rights to David Bowie’s “entire body of work” from the late star’s estate for more than $250 million.

OHMYGOSSIP — Jack Antonoff has told Damon Albarn to “shut the f*** up” after questioning Taylor Swift’s talents as a songwriter.
The Bleachers musician – who has worked with the singer plenty of times in the past and recently produced the extended edition of her song ‘All Too Well’ – has hit out at the Blur star’s claim she doesn’t write her own songs.
In a series of tweets, he wrote: “i’ve never met damon albarn and he’s never been to my studio but apparently he knows more than the rest of us about all those songs taylor writes and brings in. herb.
“if you were there … cool … go off. if not … maybe …. shut the f*** up? (sic)”
Taylor herself rubbish Albarn’s claims she gets other people to write her chart-topping hits.
The 53-year-old musician initially said: “She doesn’t write her own songs. Co-writing is very different to writing.
“I’m not hating on anybody, I’m just saying there’s a big difference between a songwriter and a songwriter who co-writes.”
The ‘Bad Blood’ hitmaker has taken to Twitter to rubbish Damon’s accusations.
She wrote on the micro-blogging platform: “@DamonAlbarn I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this. I write ALL of my own songs. Your hot take is completely false and SO damaging. You don’t have to like my songs but it’s really f***** up to try and discredit my writing. WOW.
“PS I wrote this tweet all by myself in case you were wondering (sic)”
Damon has since backtracked on his initial comments and apologised to Taylor, an hour after she tweeted.
He added on Twitter: “The last thing I would want to do is discredit your songwriting. I hope you understand.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Kanye West’s new album ‘DONDA 2’ is set to be released earlier than expected.
The 44-year-old rapper – who legally changed his name to Ye in 2021 – released the chart-topping album ‘DONDA’ late last year and the follow-up will be released “sooner than you think”, along with the upcoming record by Kanye’s fellow rapper Pusha T.
Steven Victor, head of A&R at Def Jam Recordings said: “The Pusha album is coming sooner than you think. And we’re dropping back to back to back. You know when the President comes to town and they have the procession and all that, and the trucks, and it feels never-ending? That’s how we’re coming this year. Tonight, we’re leaving here and going to the studio. We’re working on ‘Donda 2 ‘and we’re putting the finishing touches on Pusha’s album. [‘Donda 2’] coming sooner than you think too. The procession is starting and it’s not stopping.”
The music mogul – who is also collaborating with fashion designer NIGO who makes his musical comeback after two decades with an album featuring the likes of Ye, Pusha T and Pharrell Williams – went on to explain the importance of “listening” to his clients.
He told Complex: ” I think that you have to really just listen to all of the artists. Because there are so many artists on the project, everyone is coming together for NIGO, so I think you have to take everyone’s opinions into consideration and make sure that it all lines up. It’s like a painting, so everything has to be perfect. You have to consider everyone’s opinions and add that as an ingredient. Once everyone’s perspective is being heard, we can come together to make sure it works.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jay Park has assured fans he has “not retiring yet.”
The 34-year-old musician and record label executive – who has not released an album of his own since 2019 – took to Twitter to respond to rumours that he was quitting the industry altogether, which came about when he announced his plans to his decision to step down as the CEO of South Korean labels AOMG and H1GHR MUSIC at the end of 2021.
He said: “[I am] not retiring yet. in the last two years I think I did like 80 fts but only put out like 7 songs under my name lol.”
The ‘ All I Wanna Do’ hitmaker – who first came to prominence on South Korean reality television before earning millions of followers by posting covers on YouTube – then went on to explain in the tweet that he “owes [himself] and his fans” at least one or two further albums and promised that a “crazy” year is in store.
He added: “I owe myself and my fans at least 1-2 more good albums. I’m just to much of a man of the ppl’s sometimes I put my own career on hold. this year gon be crazy. trust!”(sic).”
What’s more, the music mogul is also reportedly in talks with music group Kakao Entertainment to create and manage his own K-Pop boyband, although any “major details” on that are “yet to be confirmed.”
In response to a report claiming that a new boyband could be on the cards, an insider told SBS News: “It is true that we are currently discussing possibilities for a business partnership with Jay Park. However, major details have yet to be confirmed. Jay Park is an artist who is currently active in various fields including as a singer, a music producer, and more. Kakao Entertainment is seeking to diversify its business in the music market through various partnership opportunities.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Diana Ross’s hit song ‘I’m Coming Out’ was inspired by transvestites.
The disco classic – which has gone on to become a gay anthem since its release in 1980 – was inspired by a bar full of transvestites and Diana Ross impersonators, according to Nile Rodgers who co-wrote the song with fellow Chic star Bernard Edwards.
He said: “‘I’m Coming Out’. I promise you when I came up with that idea, I walked into a bar, there were a lot of transvestites and Diana Ross impersonators, I guess they were having some contest that night. Diana Ross was the very first big star I ever worked with. And all of a sudden I walk in and I see the life of one aspect of Diana Ross’s life – that the gay community really looks up to Diana Ross as a real icon.”
Nile went on to explain that he wanted to “translate” the scene into a song and came up with the title in what he described as a a “life changing moment.”
Speaking on the inaugural episode of ‘Björn from ABBA and Friends’ on Apple Music Hits, he added: “And I was like, “Oh, my God, how do I translate that into a song without saying obviously what I’m feeling?” And it just popped into my head, like ‘I’m coming out’. Yeah, honestly, and I thought that it was a life changing moment.”
The Grammy Award-winning songwriter – who also composed hits such as ‘We Are Family’ by Sister Sledge and produced Madonna’s ‘Like a Virgin’ album – then went on to describe ‘I’m Coming Out’ as a “fanfare” for a woman who is “revered by the gay community.”
He said: “She came to see Chic playing live. And my partner turned around while we were jamming. And he said, ‘Damn, that’s like a queen coming to see us. She’s like our queen.’ And I remembered him saying that. So, when I was doing the arrangement, I wrote a fanfare. So we go, ‘I’m coming out.’ And I go [sings fanfare]. A fanfare for a queen. A person who’s revered by the gay community. She’s acknowledging that alliance. And it’s also going to hopefully make you go to the dance floor.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Taylor Swift has been announced as the first global ambassador for Record Store Day 2022.
The ‘All Too Well’ singer has taken on the role for Record Store Day, which takes place on April 23. This year marks the 15th annual celebration of record stores.
In a statement confirming her ambassador role, she said: “I’m very proud to be this year’s ambassador for Record Store Day. The places where we go to browse and explore and discover music new and old have always been sacred to me. Record stores are so important because they help to perpetuate and foster music-loving as a passion. They create settings for live events. They employ people who adore music thoroughly and purely. Those people and shops have had a rough few years and we need to support these small businesses more now than ever to make sure they can stay alive, stay eccentric, and stay individual.
“It’s been a true joy for me to watch vinyl sales grow in the past few years and we, the artists, have the fans to thank for this pleasant surprise. Happy Record Store Day, everyone! Stay safe out there.”
Taylor has released exclusive Record Store Day records in the past and this year she will also release a “special” RSD 2022 vinyl as part of the celebrations.
While they occupy three spots on the Top Ten Best-Selling Albums of 2021 list (MRC Data), the albums of Taylor Swift, including ‘Folklore’, ‘Evermore’, ‘Fearless (Taylor’s Version)’ and ‘Red (Taylor’s Version)’ are constantly on record store sales charts, partially because it’s important to her that they all be released physically, on CD and vinyl, and available to independently-owned record stores.
RSD co-founder Carrie Colliton insists no one could be more suited to the role of ambassador than Taylor.
Colliton said: “The role of RSD Ambassador is, of course, something we take seriously in the sense that it helps us do our job of shining a light on these special places.
“We’re pretty picky about the people we invite to ‘wear the sash’, and we always want to make sure those ambassadors genuinely love record stores and are creative about ways to celebrate them.
“But mostly it’s a title we want people to have fun with, and we know that our RSD 2022 ambassador loves having fun, loves music, and loves record stores. For our 15th Record Store Day, and for our first global ambassador, we’re teaming up with a woman who does all that and just happens to be one of the biggest artists on the planet.”
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 Taylor helped support independent record stores by sending them signed copies of her surprise albums that year, ‘Folklore’ and ‘Evermore’.
The musician also made a donation to Grimey’s New & Preloved Music, a record shop in her hometown of Nashville, Tennessee, to help keep them going.
Grimey’s Anna Lundy and Doyle Davis said: “Swift has shown her love and support for independent record stores by not only supporting our shop specifically during the dark, early days of the pandemic, when she directly donated to help us support our staff, but also by steering her eager, excited, and dedicated fans to independent record stores, places that many of them visited for the first time while in search of her signed CDs.”

The legendary singer-and-actor sadly passed away at the age of 74 with his wife Deborah by his side.
A statement on his official Facebook page read: “Our hearts are broken to announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight with his wife Deborah by his side. Daughters Pearl and Amanda and close friends have been with him throughout the last 24 hours.
“His amazing career spanned 6 decades that saw him sell over 100 Million albums worldwide and star in over 65 movies, including “Fight Club”, “Focus”, “Rocky Horror Picture Show” and “Wayne’s World.”“Bat Out of Hell” remains one of the top 10 selling albums of all time.
“We know how much he meant to so many of you and we truly appreciate all of the love and support as we move through this time of grief in losing such an inspiring artist and beautiful man.
“We thank you for your understanding of our need for privacy at this time. From his heart to your souls…don’t ever stop rocking! (sic)”
Born Michael Lee Aday, the iconic star is best known for the Grammy-winning ‘Bat Out Of Hell’ trilogy, one of the best-selling albums of all time.
Meat created magic with the late Jim Steinman – who died in April 2021 – who wrote and produced ‘Bat Out Of Hell’.
Steinman also worked on the book, music and lyrics for the ‘Bat Out of Hell: The Musical’.
Their 1993 album ‘Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell’ featured the mega-hit ‘I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)’, which spent five weeks at No1 in the US.
Meat’s career began in the 1960s, when he founded the band Meat Loaf Soul.
As well as a dazzling music career, the larger-than-life entertainer was famous for his role as Eddie in ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’.
Meat has struggled with ill health in recent years and was previously left unable to stand up for longer than five minutes due to a nerve issue in his back – meaning he was forced to spend most of the time sat down.
He explained at the time: “I don’t do drugs. I don’t drink. I have a pinched nerve in my back and it feels like when I stand up to walk, that Norman Bates from Psycho is stabbing me in the back. And it hurts like hell.”
When asked if he is on medication, he replied: “No, if you get on medication then you can’t speak. And my assistant said ‘don’t talk about this’. But I went to a doctor the other night and he told me my tongue was swollen. And I have no idea why. It’s causing me to talk slower than normal.
“Because when I saw myself on TV I freaked out. I looked like I was drunk.

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher, Doja Cat and Ed Sheeran are among the performers confirmed for the BRIT Awards with Mastercard.
The annual music awards ceremony returns to London’s The O2 arena on February 8, and the former Oasis frontman, ‘Say So’ hitmaker and ‘Bad Habits’ singer are among the big names set to take to the stage.
Attendees are no doubt in for a raucous night with Liam on the bill.
The 49-year-old rocker is set to give the debut performance of his new single, ‘Everything’s Electric’, from his upcoming third solo album, ‘C’mon You Know’.
He tweeted: “Im gonna be preforming my new single Everything’s Electric at the Brit awards this year and I’d appreciate it if you stopped what you were doing and tuned in cheers LG x. (sic)”
Liam – who performed Oasis hit ‘Live Forever’ at the 2018 ceremony as a tribute to the victims of the Manchester Arena terrorist attack in 2017 – has a long history with the BRITs.
He once famously slammed his microphone down while collecting an award, leading presenter, comedian Peter Kay, to remark: “What a k***head.”
His rival Robbie Williams famously challenged him to a fight at the 2000 BRITs – though the ‘Wonderwall’ singer wasn’t in attendance – and Liam and his then-bandmate and brother Noel famously mocked their Britpop rivals Blur by performing a rendition of their hit ‘Parklife’ at the 1996 ceremony.
Grime megastar Dave, rap sensation Little Simz, and this year’s Rising Star award winner, Holly Humberstone, have also been confirmed to perform.
Although Plan B restrictions in England are set to be lifted next week, including no longer requiring COVID-19 passes at large scale events and mandatory mask-wearing, organisers of the BRITs have announced that: “Nominees and all guests will be asked to show a negative LFT test on arrival to the venue.”
While social distancing measures won’t be in place, those in the audience will be required to wear their masks when not eating or drinking, or in their seats.
What’s more, for the first time in the event’s history, fans will be able to nab tickets on the arena floor, where the nominees are seated.
And they are also offering Blue Light Tickets for the emergency services, who can enter a ballot to come to the show, after NHS frontline workers attended in 2021.
Adele leads the nominations this year, with nods for Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year and the Best pop/R&B categories after releasing her acclaimed album ’30’.
The upcoming ceremony will also feature a new selection of gender-neutral categories, after the organisers decided to scrap the best male and female categories and create a broader group of nominees.
The BRIT Awards 2022 with Mastercard will be exclusively broadcast on ITV and ITV Hub and hosted by Mo Gilligan.

OHMYGOSSIP — Olly Alexander was able to “express himself” in a way he’s not been able to before on the new Years & Years album.
The ‘It’s A Sin’ star – who identifies as gay – has released the first studio effort since the ‘Desire’ group became his solo project last year, following the departures Mikey Goldsworthy and Emre Turkmen.
On ‘Night Call’, released today (21.01.22), the 31-year-old singer-and-actor says he wanted to take the opportunity to embrace his “freedom of expression”.
On the raunch-filled collection inspired by late-night hook-ups, Olly told NME: “I realised that I wanted the album to be about sex, but also just to have this, like, freedom of expression.
“I wanted to express myself in a way that maybe I hadn’t expressed myself before. And so once I figured that out – that it was going to be uptempo and fun and music you could move your body to – that sort of helped me [put it together].”
In the candid chat, the former ‘Skins’ star also insisted he’s come to terms with people commenting on how he has sex.
He said: “You know, being an artist is definitely a strange experience, because when I put a song out, I have no idea how it’s going to be taken – and sometimes I can be surprised. People commenting on how you have sex is quite surreal, I suppose, but I’ve made my peace with it now.”
Olly previously teased that he channelled “slightly deranged sexual energy” into the LP, which sees him take on a character who he admitted he has been “at different times” in his life.
He explained: “I really wanted to go into this sort of twisted fantasy…
‘”Crave’ is a good example of this slightly deranged sexual energy that kind of became a bit of a Muse, this character that I very much have been at different times, so that’s throughout the record. And I think it’s a little bit more assertive than maybe the previous ones. Exactly. Ask for what you want, guys… I feel definitely more solid.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Björk has penned “a whole new album”, which she hopes will be released in the summer.
In October, the Icelandic legend revealed she had made a record for “people who are making clubs at home in their living room”, amid the COVID-19 lockdown.
And in the latest update on the long-awaited follow-up to 2017’s ‘Utopia’, the 56-year-old artist revealed she loved the chance to focus entirely on the album without having to travel.
Björk explained how she relished being at her beach home in Reykjavík, Iceland, instead of being on the road when concerts were cancelled due to the spread of coronavirus.
In an interview with LA Weekly, the ‘Hyperballad’ star was asked about the pandemic interfering with her ‘Cornucopia’ tour, to which she replied: “Yes, this has never happened before. I’m kinda excited about it.
“Usually, once you commit to a tour, it seems to lock into a grid which is most often fun but at worst can become conveyor-belty. So to put something on pause for two years and write a whole album and then come back to it is going to be interesting.”
She added: “Well, the lifestyle changes in COVID were not that huge in Iceland. I live on a beach in Reykjavík, the capital, and even in the tightest lockdowns I could walk up and down it. Then of course, hikes in the mountains… we spend a lot of time in nature here. And even in town, most things stayed open. I managed to write a whole album without travelling breaks, which felt absolutely delicious! I haven’t stayed so much home since I was 16 – loved it!”
Björk didn’t divulge any details about the theme of the new record, but she plans to release it this year.
She said: “I’m finishing [the new album] now, and it should probably come out in the summer.
“It’s always really hard for me to describe the album while I’m still making it.
“It isn’t until a few months later that I can look in the mirror and pretend there was a logic to it the whole time.”
In a separate interview with The Mercury News, she noted that the release date “depends on the speed of publishing in 2022. It’s sort of out of my hands. But I would say summer. That’s a rough estimate.”
‘Utopia’ received wide acclaim from critics and fans alike upon its release, and received a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album.
