Drake surprises fans with 100 gigs of data – including three new songs

OHMYGOSSIP — Drake has surprised fans by uploading 100 gigabytes of data to a new website – including three new tracks.
On the site, 100gigs.org, there is a folder titled ‘NEW’ containing the tunes ‘It’s Up’, ‘Blue Green Red’ and ‘Housekeeping Knows’.
The former features fellow rapper Young Thug, ‘Housekeeping Knows’ sees Drake team up with Latto, and he’s gone full dance mode on ‘Blue Green Red’.
The rap superstar has also provided a new hook for rival Kanye West’s 2018 track ‘Yikes’.
The site is loaded with other content, including unreleased artwork, and is all free to download.
The prolific star only recently announced a joint album with PartyNextDoor.
The 37-year-old rapper and the 31-year-old singer, songwriter, and record producer have been working on new music together and are preparing to release an album later this year.
Speaking at PartyNextDoor’s Party and Friends show in Toronto, Drake announced: “Once Summer over with. Do what you need to do, I know all you girls are outside and when it gets a little chilly, PartyNextDoor and Drake album will be right there for you.”
Drake also performed ‘Sweeterman’ and ‘Redemption’, along with ‘Wah Gwan Delilah’, at the gig.
PartyNextDoor was the first artist to sign with Drake’s record label OVO Sound, an imprint of Warner Records, in 2013.
The pair have collaborated before on ‘Come and See Me’ ((2016), ‘Since Way Back’ (2017) and ‘LOYAL’ (2019).
PND also appeared on Drake’s ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late’ (2015).
Meanwhile, back in April, Drake praised PND’s ‘PARTYNEXTDOOR 4’, by posting a screenshot of the single ‘No Chill’ with the caption: “Played this 100000 times before release. Wish they logged my streams.”
Speaking about the album, PND told Billboard: “This is the proudest I’ve felt. I’m excited to grind even more for the next [one]. I’m in love with how hard you should work for it. The only thing that’s important, that has changed my life, is dropping music. I’m not worried about the fame.”

Lauryn Hill and The Fugees suddenly appear to axe US tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Lauryn Hill and The Fugees have seemingly cancelled their planned US ‘Miseducation Anniversary Tour’ concerts.
The dates have been taken down from Live Nation and Ticketmaster, with fans sharing their emails to apply for refunds from the latter ticket selling site.
The emails read: “Unfortunately, the Event Organiser has had to cancel your event.”
However, the ‘Ready Or Not’ hitmakers are yet to comment on the reason behind the sudden axing.
The jaunt was due to begin on Friday (09.08.24) in Tampa, Florida, and conclude on September 21.
A European and UK leg is due to commence in Manchester on October 12 and wrap in Amsterdam on October 22.
It remains unknown if the run will go ahead.
Hill, 49, postponed most of the remaining dates on her tour last year after battling “serious vocal strain”.
As well as performing tracks from her seminal 1998 solo album, ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’, she and her Fugees bandmates – Wyclef Jean, 54, and Pras Michel, 51 – were set to play tunes from their 1996 LP ‘The Score’.
Hill had been “making it through” each gig by taking a prescribed medication to help her voice, but claimed it was “detrimental to the body when taken in large amounts over long periods of time.”
As a result, Hill was forced to “take time off to allow for real vocal recovery.”
She wrote on Instagram at the time: “I’d like to start this off by saying how much I’ve enjoyed being on the road, and how much I appreciate all of the fans who have come out to celebrate this incredible milestone anniversary and history making reunion with us. Being able to tour this album to sold out crowds after 25 years has been an emotional experience! I’ve loved sharing the stage again with Wyclef and Pras. The Return of the Fugees has been powerful and amazing – those who’ve witnessed it can testify. The tour itself reminds us the artists, and the audiences alike of earlier, perhaps less complicated times when ‘It could all be so simple…’ or ‘Ready Or Not, here I come!’ were on repeat on the airwaves. Simply put, classic. Classic music, classic performances with audiences who love those classics has been nothing but…wait for it … EPIC. (I almost said classic again!)
“As many of you may know, I’ve been battling serious vocal strain for the past month. I made it through each show by taking prescribed prednisone, but this can be detrimental to the body when taken in large amounts over long periods of time. In order to prevent any long term negative affect on my voice and my body, I need to take time off to allow for real vocal recovery so that I can discontinue the medication completely.
“For this reason we have to reschedule most of the remaining shows this year. The shows that were cancelled this year will be rescheduled for early 2024 AND because of the overwhelming response, we’ll be adding new cities to the tour, including overseas.
We’re working on the new calendar now, and announcing soon. (sic)”

Journey cancel UK and Ireland tour amid legal wrangle

OHMYGOSSIP — Journey have cancelled their UK and Ireland tour.
The ‘Any Way You Want It’ group were due to kick off the run on October 30 at the Utilita Arena in Cardiff, Wales, but they have told fans to apply for refunds from their point of purchase as they have been forced to pull the plug.
A statement read: “Due to circumstances beyond the band’s control, Journey’s UK and Ireland tour is unfortunately cancelled. “Refunds will be made from your point of purchase.”
The axed run comes after Jonathan Cain sued guitarist Neal Schon in their latest legal wrangle.
Documents were filed at a Delaware court on July 30, with the former seeking a third director of their jointly owned Freedom 2020 firm, in a bid to resolve alleged mishandling of finances.
The group has had several legal fallouts in recent years.
Last year, former member Steve Perry dropped his lawsuit against his ex-bandmates.
The musician – who was lead singer of the rock band from 1977 to 1987, and again from 1995 to 1998, and co-wrote many of their hits – filed a lawsuit against Cain and Schon in September 2022, regarding the trademarks of 20 of their biggest hits and their use of them on merchandise.
He accused the pair of “fraud on the trademark office”, and claimed they failed to ask for his consent to use the trademarks.
However, he later withdrew the case.
And Schon filed a cease and desist against Cain for performing at Trump’s Mar-A-Lago.
The lead guitarist was not impressed, to say the least when the keyboardist performed ‘Don’t Stop Believin” at the former President’s Florida resort, because Journey “is not, and should not be, political.”
Cain – whose wife Paula White-Cain was a spiritual advisor to Trump – was accused by his bandmate of “unauthorised affiliation of Journey” with Trump’s politics.
Schon claimed it had resulted in “irreparable harm” to the group’s brand and “earning potential”.
Cain hit back and accused his bandmate of lying.
He responded: “Schon is just frustrated that he keeps losing in court and is now falsely claiming the song has been used at political rallies.”
Back in March 2020, Journey fired longtime bassist Ross Valory and drummer Steve Smith for an alleged “malicious and very ill-conceived” coup attempt to gain control of the band’s copyright from Cain and Schon.
Valory – who was also fired by the band in 1985 and replaced by Randy Jackson – and Smith later countersued.

Orville Peck felt ‘naked’ ditching his fringed face mask for first time

OHMYGOSSIP — Orville Peck felt “a little naked” going out without his signature tasselled face mask.
The ‘Midnight Ride’ star gave himself some anonymity by wearing the leather mask and found it “nerve-wracking” ditching it – but felt confident to unseal his identity ahead of his duets album, ‘Stampede’, out now.
He told GRAMMY.com: “The fringe was sort of a pain in the a** for a lot of things, like going to dinners and things like that. So now that’s a lot easier.
“When I first started doing shows with my new mask, it was a little nerve-wracking to go out and feel like I was sort of a little naked, but I’ve gotten over that now.”
The 36-year-old singer felt it was time to “evolve and change”, and even though some fans are “very protective” of the accessory, he insists he is not one to conform to what other people want him to be.
He added: “I know people feel very connected to the mask and very protective over it, but I make art for myself.
“So when I know it’s time to evolve and change something, that’s because I need a challenge.
“Something different to keep me inspired as an artist and making good art, rather than just doing the same thing over and over again or pandering to people who expect me to be something or someone.”
The South African star also spoke about the country music scene in Nashville being cut-throat.
He said: “I think they have a very decided mandate of what they want to be country music, and what they think is profitable — and sadly, that doesn’t leave tons of room for diversity.
“As far as what makes a country musician, I think it’s anybody who has a love for country and wants to have their perspective in it. “With all due, the most important and meaningful mechanism of country is, in fact, just storytelling.”

Jack White to officially release No Name album this week

OHMYGOSSIP — Jack White will officially release his ‘No Name’ album this week.
The 49-year-old musician took fans and even his own publicist by surprise last month when copies of the record were added to the bags of shoppers at the Detroit, London and Nashville branches of his Third Man Records stores, and he has now announced the LP will go on general sale on Friday (02.08.24).
Ahead of the official on sale date, Thursday (01.08.24) will see his record shops sell a blue indie vinyl edition of the album.
A press release for ‘No Name’ announced: “True to his DIY roots, this album was recorded, produced, and mixed by White at his Third Man Studio throughout 2023 and 2024, pressed to vinyl at Third Man Pressing, and released by Third Man Records.
“With the surprise unveiling of ‘No Name’, via a giveaway with purchase in Third Man stores on July 19th, fans proved that the rumblings of something mysterious can grow into the beautiful experience of a community sharing the excitement and energy of music and art.
“Third Man is thrilled today to bring this music and mission to a wider audience.”
The former White Stripes rocker treated fans to a selection of songs from the record – his sixth solo offering – at an intimate concert in Nashville over the weekend.
Those in the audience at the American Legion Post 82 bar got to hear ‘Old Scratch Blues’, ‘Archbishop Harold Holmes’, ‘That’s How I’m Feeling’, ‘What’s The Rumpus?’, ‘It’s Rough On Rats (If You’re Asking)’ and ‘Morning At Midnight’ at the gig, which was held to raise money for a new sound system at the venue, as well as favourites from Jack’s extensive back catalogue.
When copies of ‘No Name’ were given out to shoppers on 19 July, the guitarist’s own publicist told Rolling Stone he was “as surprised as everyone else” about the new record.

Joe Bonamassa warns Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to induct veterans artists sooner

OHMYGOSSIP — Joe Bonamassa has slammed the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for not inducting veteran artists soon enough.
After British blues legend John Mayall died a few months prior to this year’s induction ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 19, fellow blues rock guitarist Bonamassa has urged the museum not to waste any more time and honour artists in their 70s and 80s before it’s too late.
Appearing on the ‘Artists on Record’ podcast, he said of Mayall: “I am sad and slightly p***** off that he didn’t live to see it because he deserved to go in decades ago.”
He continued: “There’s a lot of omissions that I think they need to start reconciling quickly, because you cannot wait for them all to die to then go, ‘Well, we’re gonna put you in posthumously.’ It means something.
“It would have meant something to John to get that statue.
“There’s a lot of people that are now aging out or becoming in their late 70s and 80s that really should have been in decades ago. They need to get them in because it’s the right thing to do for the artist.”
The legendary musician passed away “peacefully” on July 22 after battling “health issues” that had prevented him from touring in recent years.
Ozzy Osbourne, 75, and Cher, 78, are among the veteran artists set for induction in October.
Meanwhile, Robert ‘Kool’ Bell of Kool and the Gang, who are also being honoured, admitted getting into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is the last item on his bucket list.
The ‘Celebration’ hitmaker, 73, told Big Issue magazine before being confirmed for induction: “We have had many accolades, but the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is one of the last on the bucket list. And it took 60 years, but we were just nominated.
“This business can be up and down. We wrote a song called ‘Hollywood Swinging’ but it took us 20 years to get a star on Hollywood Boulevard.
“So it’s about staying positive and working hard.
“We’ve played with Elton John, Dire Straits, and we did 48 shows with Van Halen, so we have been with the rockers. Right now, we’re waiting on the vote.”

Is Billie Eilish featured on a remix of Charli XCX’s Guess?

OHMYGOSSIP — Charli XCX appears to be teasing a Billie Eilish-featuring remix of her ‘Brat’ deluxe edition track ‘Guess’.
The ‘Club Classics’ singer, 31, has shared a snap of the lower half of herself and another artist on social media and asked fans to “guess” who is featured on the track.
She simply captioned the black-and-white snap: “Guess?”
Fans have been quick to point out that Billie, 22, shared the same picture of herself from her ‘Chicken Shop Date’ episode.
Chappell Roan is also hotly rumoured to be featured on another new ‘Brat’ song as Charli extends her ‘Brat Girl Summer’ phenomenon.
Meanwhile, Charli recently confessed she doesn’t “envisage” herself “making music for ever”.
The ‘Girl, so confusing’ singer admitted she is keen to “flex my creative muscles on other areas”.
She was quoted by The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column as saying: “I would like to flex my creative muscles on other areas. I don’t envisage myself making music for ever.
“Maybe I will in some capacity, but I just feel like there are other creative areas I really want to explore.”
One way she is branching out is with her upcoming role in the remake of 1970s cult horror ‘Faces Of Death’.
She said of her debut acting gig: “I was a fan of the original movie.
“I saw that this film was being remade by a director, Daniel Goldhaber. We met and we spoke, and he was like, ‘You should be in it’. I was like, ‘Wow, that’s crazy’.
“I really got the bug from that.”
The film will follow a similar format to the original as it’s set to be presented like a documentary detailing the most horrific murders of the time. While most of the footage is staged, the use of real footage proved controversial and led to it being banned in multiple countries.

Post Malone unveils star-studded tracklisting for F-1 Trillion

OHMYGOSSIP — Post Malone has unveiled the star-studded tracklisting for his hotly anticipated country album ‘F-1 Trillion’.
The genre’s greatest, including Dolly Parton, Chris Stapleton, Luke Combs, Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson, Brad Paisley, feature on the 18-track LP.
The record boasts the previously released tune ‘Pour Me A Drink’ featuring Blake Shelton, who recently spilled that the star grew up believing Blake’s song ‘Austin’ was written about him.
Post, whose real name is Austin Richard Post, told Blake his mom told him the 2001 song was all about him.
He told American Songwriter: “Post’s real name is Austin, and he told me that when he was a kid, his mom told him that that song was written about him.
“That’s what he told me, and he said he believed it. His mom was, I guess, the country music fan in the family, and his dad was the rock guy. So, I guess that’s how Post Malone was created.”
Blake – who is married to No Doubt star Gwen Stefani – still hasn’t asked Post why he chose him for the collaboration.
He said: “He’s just so excited about music.
“I mean, literally, we spent an hour one night him just with his iPod playing me music that he is fired up about. I still, to this day, have never asked him, ‘Hey, why me? Why did you call me for this?’”
On not asking why he selected him for the tune, he explained: “I didn’t because at the end of the day, I just, for whatever reason, he asked me to do it – I’m proud.
“I’m proud of that record. I’m proud to have worked with him. I think he’s an incredibly talented guy. Now that I’ve spent some time with him, it’s no mystery to me that he’s as huge as he is as an artist and successful as he is because he’s just somebody that you just love being around. He’s just so much fun.”
Blake says Post grew up on country music and believes he’s probably been wanting to make a record like ‘F-1 Trillion’ for a while.
He said: “This guy grew up in Texas.
“I think just naturally he grew up hearing all this stuff, and so he’s just super excited about country music. I think he probably feels like a new artist again.”
Blake concluded: “Now he’s doing it, and you can tell he’s been holding it in for a while, and he’s super fired up about it.”
The follow-up to 2023’s ‘Austin’ also features the previously released singles ‘I Had Some Help’, featuring Morgan Wallen, 31, and ‘Guy For That’ with Luke Combs, 34.

Post Malone’s ‘F-1 Trillion’ tracklisting:

1. ‘Wrong Ones’ (feat. Tim McGraw)
2. ‘Finer Things’ (feat. Hank Williams Jr.)
3. ‘I Had Some Help’ (feat. Morgan Wallen)
4. ‘Pour Me a Drink’ (feat. Blake Shelton)
5. ‘Have the Heart’ (feat. Dolly Parton)
6. ‘What Don’t Belong to Me’

Sam Smith joined by Alicia Keys on new version of I’m Not The Only One

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Smith is releasing a new version of their hit ‘I’m Not The Only One’ featuring Alicia Keys.
The ‘Stay With Me’ hitmaker – who came out as non-binary in 2019 and uses they/them pronouns – has a new version of their debut album ‘In The Lonely Hour’ on the way Friday (02.08.24), including Sam and the ‘No One’ hitmaker’s duet version of the 2014 ballad.
Alongside a photo of the pair, Sam gushed on Instagram: “I’m Not The Only One feat. the truly incomparable @aliciakeys.
“Coming Friday August 2nd.
“I am so honoured to have such an incredible talent and a beautiful soul join me on this track to celebrate a decade of In The Lonely Hour.”
Sam re-recorded ‘Stay With Me’ with updated lyrics and admitted the meaning of the song “changes” for them every time they listen to it.
In a letter to their fans, Sam said: “When me, Jimmy and Tourist wrote this song, none of us would’ve expected it to become what it has in the world.
“I will never forget Will (Tourist) playing those three chords on the piano. I stopped everything I was doing and said ‘what is that’.
“Those chords and this song still stir me in the same way to this day. I’ve never once got sick of singing it.
“The meaning of this song changes for me whenever I sing it. The words ‘Stay With Me’ can mean a million different things and follow me throughout my life like an old friend. (sic)”
The line “I’m just a man” has been changed to “baby understand”, having made several reworks in live performances over the years.
They continued: “This song is truly so special to me, so for the 10 year anniversary I re-recorded the track, which will be available on all platforms and physical, including the updated lyric ‘but I still need love, baby understand’ which felt really important to me.
“It’s beautiful to know that sometimes, we can change the past.”
The album hit number one in the UK when it was released in May 2014, while it landed at number two in the US Billboard 200 the following month.

The Killers to drop Vegas-inspired tune Bright Lights next week

OHMYGOSSIP — The Killers will drop their next single, ‘Bright Lights’, on August 9.
The Las Vegas band have been teasing fans with a snippet of the upcoming tune on social media, and now it has an official release date and more of the track has been shared.
Quoting Vegas Mafia associate Ace Rothstein from Martin Scorsese’s 1995 crime drama classic ‘Casino’, the Brand Flowers-fronted group wrote on Instagram alongside a fresh video preview of the track: “The dealers are watching the players. The box men are watching the dealers. The floor men are watching the box men. The pit bosses are watching the floor men.”
The Killers’ latest single comes after they ditched their planned synth-inspired album because they are “getting older”.
Frontman Brandon Flowers. 42, admitted the band had been working on the “synth-pop record” but decided to move ahead with a “rock ’n’ roll album” instead as they were not enjoying it.
As quoted by The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column, he said: “I did not want to commit to a whole synth-pop record. It is complex.
“There is a place in our hearts for this music but we are getting older.
“We thought you could make an album faster on the road, as you are working more with computers, but we did not get the gratification from it.
“We are now making a rock ’n’ roll album.
“We have only been around 20 years and from when we started, rock radio is a different animal as there were fewer and fewer stations.”
Meanwhile, after their summer European tour, the band will kick off their ‘Hot Fuss’ residency at Las Vegas’ Colosseum in August.
The residency will celebrate their debut studio album, which was released in 2004, and Brandon promised fans that they can expect to hear all of the classic tunes from the record.
Speaking on the ‘Smartless’ podcast, he said: “It is 20 years of our first record and we are going to play it front to back, and then we will do eight or nine singles.”

Billie Eilish makes cheeky confession on Charli XCX’s Guess remix

OHMYGOSSIP — Billie Eilish cheekily confesses she would have sex with Charli XCX on their raunchy ‘Guess’ remix.
The two pop superstars have joined forces on a new cut of the latter’s extended ‘Brat’ track – and didn’t hold back in the steamy lyrics.
Billie, 22 – who identifies as queer – sings: “Charli likes boys, but she knows I’d hit it. Charli, call me if you’re with it.”
In the music promo for the dance tune – helmed by Aidan Zamiri – the pair are seen mounting a pile of lingerie with Charli singing: “You wanna guess the colour of my underwear.”
At the end of the song, Charli, 32, sings “You wanna guess what me and Billie have been texting about… You wanna guess if I’m serious about this song.”
As well as having fun on the playful song, the pair have raised awareness for those from poor backgrounds and homeless girls who cannot afford essential items by donating the bras and knickers from the video to the I Support The Girls non-profit.
A press release notes that: “All bras and underwear used in the music video have been donated to I Support The Girls. ISTG collects and distributes essential items, including bras, underwear and menstrual hygiene products, allowing people experiencing homelessness, impoverishment or distress to stand tall with dignity.”
Away from her music career, the ‘Apple’ hitmaker has been busy working on a number of film and TV projects since the success of her ‘Barbie’ soundtrack tune ‘Speed Drive’ last year.
Charli has contributed to the score for the A24 film ‘Mother Mary’ with studio wizard Jack Antonoff and is also producing original music for Benito Skinner’s series ‘Overcompensating’ on Prime Video.
The singer will also star in Daniel Goldhaber remake of 1978 cult horror film ‘Faces of Death’.
Charli recently confessed she doesn’t “envisage” herself “making music for ever”.

The 1975’s drummer goes solo with new single dance tune Screen Cleaner

OHMYGOSSIP — The 1975’s drummer and producer, George Daniel, has released his debut solo single, ‘Screen Cleaner’.
The track is released via Dirty Hit’s new electronic music imprint, dh2, and features the voice of Swedish pop star Tove Lo.
Daniel recently debuted new music with his fiancé Charli XCX at The Levels at Glastonbury, Boiler Room New York, Ibiza’s Amnesia and The Floor with Jamie xx at Venue MOT in London.
As well as producing for the ‘Love Me’ group and Charli, Daniel has also worked on music by The Japanese House and Caroline Polachek.
Last year, the pop band announced their “indefinite hiatus” from live shows.
Frontman Matty Healy made the announcement while playing the Golden 1 Center, in Sacramento, California, in September, as part of their mammoth ‘Still… At Their Very Best’ tour.
He told the crowd before performing ‘Sex’: “It’s wonderful you’re all here.
“After this tour, we will be going on an indefinite hiatus with shows, so it’s wonderful to have you guys with us tonight. Thank you so much.”
Matty’s mum Denise Welch admitted her son – who recently got engaged to model Gabbriette Bechtel – was “absolutely exhausted” and “ready for a break”.
The ‘Loose Women’ star told Britain’s OK! magazine: “Matty is absolutely shattered. He’s on a world tour and as much as it’s hard to go, ‘Oh please feel sorry for my boy’, people don’t realise that it’s gruelling to be the lead singer, the creator, the writer, the producer of a massive show on the scale that Matthew does.
“Then he gets on stage and gets in a plane and flies seven hours then flies 24 hours.
“It’s a wonderful life, but he’s absolutely exhausted and ready for a break.”

Garbage cancel all concerts this year as Shirley Manson requires surgery for injury

OHMYGOSSIP — Garbage have been forced to cancel the rest of their live dates this year – as frontwoman Shirley Manson undergoes surgery for an undisclosed injury.
The ‘Stupid Girl’ singer is “crushed” to have to pull out of a series of major gigs but must undergo surgery and rehabilitation.
In a social media statement, the band said: “It is with great regret that we announce the cancellation of all our remaining dates for the rest of the year due to an injury that [frontwoman] Shirley [Manson] sustained on our recent tour in Europe that will require surgery and “No one is more crushed about this than I am. You know I would push through if I could
“This is not a decision that we have taken lightly, and we apologise to our amazing fans and supportive promoters.
“We look forward to playing for you all again in 2025.”
In the caption, Shirley wrote: “No one is more crushed about this than I am. You know I would push through if I could.”
The 57-year-old star previously underwent hip replacement surgery after suffering another nasty injury on tour in 2016.
Meanwhile, Garbage have a follow-up to 2021 record ‘No Gods No Masters’ in the pipeline, and Shirley teased in April to NME: “We are in the studio as we speak, actually. It’s supposed to be done by the end of May, and we’re on target. It’s amazing; we are the little engine that could but nobody ever thought would.
“No one ever bet on us. We are the classic underdog in a way. Our public success was a long, long time ago – and since then we’ve operated from an underdog status. It feels like we’re really earned our spot on the team, which brings with it a way to enjoy that I didn’t when I was young.”
