Yungblud’s new album will see his ‘soul captured on record’

OHMYGOSSIP — Yungblud is approaching his next album as if it’s the last one he’ll ever make.
The ‘Fleabag’ rocker has decided to stop letting genre dictate his music and wants fans to see into his “soul”.
He told Fearne Cotton on the ‘Happy Place’ podcast: “I’m almost approaching my next album like, if I die now, what is the one album I want to leave behind? Regardless of genre, is it cool, will it make 150,000 people move I’ve like literally just thrown that out the window and I’m like what does my soul want to say?”
The 27-year-old star – whose real name is Dom Harrison – says his debut tome, ‘You Need To Exist’, “facilitated” his new album.
He continued: “This year, creating that, it has very much facilitated the album as well because it’s kind of like this book has almost helped me write my next album because it’s kind of gone like, f*** it, someone’s soul captured on record, or in a painting, or in a book, or in a movie script – that’s when it truly like transcends time because every one of us has a soul, and very few of us let the world see it.
“I feel like the coolest thing about you is your soul because it’s individual; everyone’s individual, there has never been anyone else like you.
“So if you can really show it, and I am not talking about being successful, because success doesn’t mean having loads of money or being a rock star, or being an author, or being a thing.
“Successful means different things to everybody and think that is also part of success.
“I know that sounds like such a deep-levelled answer, but that is what I wanted this book to do; that is my soul, so I can show it.”
Yungblud’s last studio album was his 2022 self-titled LP.

Isaac Hayes’ estate sues Donald Trump and demands $3m over use of Hold On, I’m Coming home

OHMYGOSSIP — Isaac Hayes’ estate has sued Donald Trump for copyright infringement over his unauthorised use the late star’s hit ‘Hold On, I’m Coming’ at his rallies.
Isaac Hayes Enterprises filed papers on Sunday (11.08.24) for 134 counts copyright infringement between 2022 and 2024 and is seeking a whopping $3 million in licensing fees in just a matter of days.
Hayes’ son, Isaac Hayes III, said: “We demand the cessation of use, removal of all related videos, a public disclaimer, and payment of $3 million in licensing fees by August 16, 2024. Failure to comply will result in further legal action.”
James L. Walker Jr., an attorney for Hayes Enterprises, commented: “It is most unfortunate that these artists have publicly posted on their social media and asked Team Trump and other candidates not to use their music — and yet their candidates keep using their music.”
Trump has riled up many artists by using their songs without permission.
Just days ago, Celine Dion condemned Trump’s use of her ‘Titanic’ theme song ‘My Heart Will Go On’ at his Montana rally.
The 56-year-old Canadian singer called out the former US president for “unauthorised usage” of the video, musical performance, and “likeness” of herself that was used as part of his campaign stop on Friday (09.08.24), as he continues to battle it out with Kamala Harris to be re-elected.
A statement on her official social media channels read: “Today, Celine Dion’s management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., became aware of the unauthorized usage of the video, recording, musical performance, and likeness of Celine Dion singing “My Heart Will Go On” at a Donald Trump / JD Vance campaign rally in Montana.
“In no way is this use authorized, and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use.
“…And really, THAT song? (sic)”

Noel Gallagher’s update on an Oasis reunion leads to boos

OHMYGOSSIP — Noel Gallagher was booed after he told fans there will not be an Oasis reunion in 2025 or 2026.
The 57-year-old singer-songwriter’s High Flying Birds band headlined the Y Not Festival on Sunday night (04.08.24), when he responded to a fan’s query about when he and estranged brother Liam Gallagher’s band might make a momentous comeback.
Noel said: “When are we going to see you? In 2025 or 2026? The answer is neither.”
This led to boos from some of the crowd, and he then joked: “I’ll take the fact that you’re booing as a compliment!”
The headline set was the final leg of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ latest tour, and the frontman quipped he and his bandmates are now “sick of the sight of each other”.
He told the crowd: “Well, this is the last night of our tour tonight … we’ve been on tour for over a year, so we’re sick of the sight of each other.
“So, we need to get away from it for a while.”
Noel also admitted the band will release a new album at some point, but first they need to write one.
He said: “I don’t know if we’re gonna tour again, I’ve got no idea. But we will … we’ve got to make a record first. We’ve gotta write one.
“We’ve gotta write one, gotta make one … do all that.
“We’ve gotta go spend some money. I have no idea, I dunno but you’ll be the first to know.
“Right, we’re all Oasis fans, right? Buckle up.”
He then performed Oasis’ 1997 B-side ‘Going Nowhere’ to an elated crowd.
Warring brothers Noel and Liam have been at loggerheads ever since a backstage bust-up at their final Oasis concert in Paris in 2009.
In June, it was reported by the Sunday Mirror newspaper that the estranged siblings had secretly booked three dates at Wembley Stadium for an Oasis reunion this year.
However, Liam has since admitted he was none the wiser about this.
He responded to a fan on X: “Nobody’s told me, maybe [they’re] getting a new singer like the dude out of Queen [Adam Lambert].”

Lauryn Hill and the Fugees confirm fate of UK and Europe tour after axing North American dates

OHMYGOSSIP — Lauryn Hill and the Fugees have confirmed their UK and Europe tour will still go ahead after cancelling their North American dates.
The US shows on their ‘Miseducation Anniversary Tour’ were removed from Live Nation and Ticketmaster with just weeks to go, which prompted speculation about the UK and European leg.
In a statement, Lauryn wrote on Instagram: “With difficulty the decision was made to pull down our upcoming North American tour dates.
“The shows in the UK and Europe ARE MOVING FORWARD as planned.”
She also addressed the ‘Ready Or Not’ hitmakers decision to axe North American shows, suggesting that a “narrative” was created in some corners.
She continued: “Last year, I faced an injury that necessitated the rescheduling of some of my shows.
“Regrettably, some media outlet’s penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines have seemingly created a narrative that has affected ticket sales for the North American portion of the tour.
“The trust and faith I have in my intentions and my commitment to my art seem to have been overshadowed by this unfortunate portrayal.”
In the lengthy statement, the AGE-year-old singer pointed out that fans across the UK and Europe were yet to see the ‘Miseducation Anniversary’ performance, while they “haven’t seen the Fugees perform together in over 25 years”.
She added: “Performing for my fans, is a profound exchange of energy and emotion that excites me every time.
“Every show is a piece of my expression and testament to our connection and shared love for music. I can assure you that no one is more disappointed about not being able to perform than I am.
“Know that I am not only grateful for those who appreciate and support my art, but that I FIGHT and push through all kinds of resistance to put together experiences that mean something for all of us. I love being able to bring these performances to you!”
And she promised to return to North America “in full force” in the future.
She said: “I appreciate your understanding. We’re looking forward to performing at the shows in the UK and Europe in October — and for our fans in North America, when these unforeseen circumstances are resolved, we’ll be back in full force…”

Kesha will re-record TiK ToK once she can legally do so

OHMYGOSSIP — Kesha is planning to re-record ‘TiK ToK’ once she has the “legal rights” to do so.
The 37-year-old singer’s debut single is now 15 years old, and while she remains proud of the track, she is keen to give it an updated version and a new lyric which reflects the passing of time since its release.
She wrote on X: “The world has changed so much and so have I. I absolutely love the new lyric change. (Shout out to @reneerapp)
“Yes it is permanent. I will re-record it when I have legal rights to! Now, my first baby stands for so much.
“It stands for fiercely protecting my fun and unadulterated joy, in myself and in others. The whole ride has been absolute insanity, but the JOY is still riding.
“I hope you all can find 3 1/2 minutes of play in this song and connect with your wild child-like joy. (sic)”
Kesha described the song as a whole as a “snapshot”, and she is still “proud” of how the track “makes her feel”.
She said: “‘TiK ToK’ was the first single that I put into this world that had my voice AND my name credited!!!!
“I remember making it fun and happy because that’s how I felt and wanted others to feel. What I’m so proud of is that’s how this song STILL makes me feel, through it all, and those are emotions I want all of us to connect to.
“15 (!!!!!!) years later, I see this song as a snapshot into the way I saw the world at the time.
“That girl was naive and wild and playful. This song eternalizes a side of myself that I love very much, and now see I have to protect fiercely.”
The song’s opening line is “Wake up in the morning feeling like P Diddy”, but more recent live versions – including at Coachella – have seen her sing “Wake up in the morning like f*** P Diddy” instead.
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is facing a number of sexual assault and trafficking allegations, while CNN leaked footage of him physically assaulting ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura in 2016 at a hotel.
The rapper has denied all allegations.

Ryan Tedder urges Mimi Webb to scrap songs if they ‘take too long’ to write

OHMYGOSSIP — Ryan Tedder advised Mimi Webb to scrap songs if they “take too long” to figure out.
The ‘Erase You’ hitmaker collaborated with the OneRepublic frontman on her latest single, and they are working together on her upcoming second album, the follow-up to 2022’s debut ‘Amelia’.
Reflecting on the advice he’s given her in the studio, she told NME: “He always says if it takes too long for the song to come, it’s just not the right one.
“He’s very about the song just coming like that if it naturally feels like it’s the right song.”
The 24-year-old singer loves getting to work Ryan, having long been a “massive fan” of the ‘Counting Stars’ group.
She said: “I’ve been a massive fan of OneRepublic since I can remember. Honestly, I just love everything.
“When I’m in the studio with Ryan and he’s singing, I’ll try to do the little things he does, and we’ll be laughing…
“He’s just such an amazing vocalist, and that was a really big reason why I wanted to get in the studio with him. Once we started writing some really sick songs, it all just started to flow so nicely.”
Looking to the future, Mimi revealed her second album is allowing her to “access and dive into different things that have gone on in my life”.
While ‘Amelia’ was “the best version” of her as a person, the next project is set to focus on “mixed emotions and the highs and lows” of life.
She explained: “It is also about change in general. Nothing ever stays the same. It really doesn’t. And I think I’ve really learned that lesson in life.
“It was so nice to be able to look at my last album and then look at this album, and be able to say to myself ‘Change is good, and change is what it’s about’. I feel like this definitely represents that.”

Orville Peck insists country fans are more ‘open minded’ than Nashville music industry

OHMYGOSSIP — Orville Peck thinks country music fans are more “open-minded” than the Nashville music industry gives them credit for.
The 36-year-old masked musician – who is openly gay – explained that while “true blue country people” are embracing his work, it’s taking time for the industry itself to catch up.
He told Billboard Canada magazine: “It’s getting a little bit better, but it’s definitely a barrier. I keep joking, after doing a song with Willie Nelson, people still want to say what I do isn’t country music.
“Message received loud and clear. People have a problem with something other than my music, and I think we all know what it is.
“It’s the same problem that people might have with Beyoncé making a country album, because a lot of people believe that country should be one thing and we all know what that one thing is.”
He pointed out that the business itself can be “difficult”, and suggested “Nashville is too afraid to see” progress among fans.
He added: “It’s really difficult sometimes. At the same time, I have gained tons and tons of fans over the years who are true blue country people.
“They’re probably not connecting to the queerness, they’re not connecting to the weird artistry, they’re connecting to the fact that I make country music.
“So I think country fans are not given enough credit for how open-minded they are. I think Nashville is too afraid to see that. I think they’re sort of starting to see it.”
Beyonce’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ country album sparked some controversy among fans, but Orville pointed out that the genre “has already been all of these different things”.
He said: “If you historically look at the origins of a lot of the instruments in country, the inspirations from African instruments, Hawaiian instruments, the inspiration taken from gospel and slave songs, there’s so much history that is just swept over.
“Especially after 9-11, there are some people who think country is about patriotism, specifically American patriotism, being white and heteronormative and living in the South. And the funny thing is, in the kind of country I love, I don’t remember those things coming up very much.
“I don’t remember the old school country being so limiting. It had more balls than that. It was adventurous and creative and diverse.”

Sir Paul McCartney enjoyed ‘looking back’ on Wings

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Paul McCartney enjoyed “looking back” on Wings in documentary ‘One Hand Clapping’.
The film – directed by David Litchfield – details the recording sessions for the band’s the live studio album of the same name at London’s Abbey Road Studios back in 1974 featuring rare footage and interviews and it’s set to debut in cinemas next month with McCartney admitting it was a thrill to travel back in time.
He said of the project: “It’s so great to look back on that period and see the little live show we did. We made a pretty good noise actually. It was a great time for the band, we started to have success with Wings, which had been a long time coming.”
The footage was filmed back in the 1970s at the height of Wings’ fame for a TV special which was never aired, and the film now features a new introduction from the Beatles legend as well as a “backyard session” with the musician performing Buddy Holly songs and unreleased track ‘Blackpool” on his acoustic guitar.
The documentary will also feature previously unseen Polaroid photographs from the recording sessions.
Marc Allenby, CEO of Trafalgar Releasing, said of the documentary release: “We are looking forward to bringing the legendary music of Paul McCartney to the big screen and offering fans a front-row seat to his enduring legacy.
“This cinematic experience will transport audiences back to a golden era of rock and roll while captivating new fans with the magic of this iconic band. It’s a must-see event for music lovers of all generations.”

The Script questioned splitting after Mark Sheehan’s death

OHMYGOSSIP — Danny O’Donoughue didn’t know if The Script should carry on after Mark Sheehan died.
The guitarist passed away in April 2023 following a brief illness and his devastated bandmates, including drummer Glen Power, had a lot of conversations afterwards about what their future would look like without him.
Speaking to the new issue of RETROPOP magazine, singer Danny said: “When Mark passed away, everything got put on the backburner and we were really trying to round up the troops as far as, ‘Where do we go from here?’.
“Everybody was trying to work their way through the devastation and decide what’s next for us. You know, do we stop The Script? Or do we want to continue? […] I needed to finish what we’d started.
“What we’ve done so far in the music industry so far has been absolutely incredible – and even if my career did finish tomorrow I’d be really happy – but at the same time I’m a born musician and I love making music. Genuinely, I have no idea what I would do if I wasn’t in music.”
Despite the group’s grief, Danny insisted it doesn’t loom large over their new album ‘Satellites’ because they would rather “celebrate” their pal.
He said: “I’m sure people are expecting it to be quite an emotional album, or an album that deals in the past, but it’s not. It’s more of an optimistic album; it’s like, ‘Let’s stop grieving and start celebrating someone’s life’.”
The ‘Hall of Fame’ group formed in 2001 and Danny is thrilled that social media has give them a new generation of fans – particularly because it is the music they are focused on, not the band themselves.
He said: “It’s like an Indian summer, where we’ve got this whole brand new legion of new Script fans and that’s really exciting because I’m having meetings every week about content and putting out things that aren’t the ways that I would have thought our fans would connect with.
“So we’ve got loads of different ideas about how to market our music and the best way to get it out there, because people don’t actually give a s*** about me or the band.
“They just care about the songs, which is amazing because that’s the way it’s supposed to be. I just come free with the music – take me or leave me!”

Will Young won’t retire after all

OHMYGOSSIP — Will Young has no plans to retire from music.
The 45-year-old singer – who came to prominence in 2002, when he won the TV talent show ‘Pop Idol’ – has, on many occasions, said he would like to be retired at 50, because he “didn’t envisage being in my fifties and being a pop star.”
However, the ‘Your Game’ hitmaker has changed his frame of mind on ageing and has lots of ideas for various projects in the future.
He told Music Week: “Someone asked me that, and I didn’t have any projects, I was not sure what I wanted to do musically. So at the time I said it, I think I actually genuinely did [believe it] because I couldn’t really envisage being in my fifties and being a pop star. But now I sort of feel like, okay, I think you can do it. You just have to sort of embrace your age, I think I’ve worked it out. So I’ve got about four different musical projects that I’d like to do. Considering I’m 45, that will probably take it past 50. At this age you forget, don’t you? I thought I was 44 the other day. I think I’m 45. So it’s a long-winded way of saying, no, I don’t think I will retire from music.”
He previously mused: “There is something brilliant about staying in the industry and keeping going.
That is not easy. And so it is important to celebrate it for myself, and also the fact I still really enjoy it.
“That’s the thing – I wouldn’t be doing it if I didn’t enjoy it. I would just go and do something else. But going forward.
I still think I would want to be retired by 50 and just have lots of dogs.”

Beabadoobee gets ‘claustrophobic’ sticking to one genre

OHMYGOSSIP — Beabadoobee gets “claustrophobic” sticking to one genre.
The 24-year-old musician – whose real name is Beatrice Kristi Ilejay Laus – has an eclectic taste in music, from American rock band Title Fight to noughties pop star Will Young, and hates feeling restricted with her creativity by staying in one lane.
Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, she said: “If you look at my earlier stuff, I am so comfortable holding an acoustic guitar. Even all the rock songs are born from an acoustic guitar, it just depends how you’re going to produce it. I just love writing songs. It doesn’t matter what genre I choose for it to be in, I always find it so, what’s the word, claustrophobic if I have to stick to one thing. Even when I listen to things, I go from listening to Title Fight, then, I don’t know, Will Young.”
The ‘Death Bed’ singer’s new album, ‘This Is How Tomorrow Moves’, out now, came after a period of deep “personal growth” and a “very intense” breakup.
She shared: “I think there was a two-year period between playing shows and a lot of things that have happened in my life that caused me to snap back into reality. It was almost like the pinnacle moment of like, ‘Okay, now I need to be a grown up. Now I just can’t constantly blame and complain about other people. I need to look at myself much more introspectively.’ It was in the middle of tour. It was in the middle of me being quite unhealthy on the road and unhealthy in general, if I’m being honest. I guess that was the point where I really needed music to help me understand what my brain was going through at the time and how to navigate that moment through time.”
She said: “I just went through a very intense breakup. I think it was the aftermath of the breakup and what happened afterwards that really shifted my brain.”

Orville Peck used to be ‘very’ against writing with other artists

OHMYGOSSIP — Orville Peck used to be “very opposed” to collaborating with other artists – until he joined forces with Shania Twain.
The pair released ‘Legends Never Die’ from the former’s EP ‘Show Pony’ in 2020, and since then, the South African country star has released ‘Midnight Ride’ with Kylie Minogue and Diplo, and joined forces with a host of stars on his ‘Stampede’ albums, from Sir Elton John to Noah Cyrus and Willie Nelson.
He told GRAMMY.com: “I was willing to do it because it was Shania and I was so obsessed with her. You know, I wrote the song for her and I.
“But I used to be very opposed to even writing with other people. It was hard for me because I grew up so DIY in this industry, and so protective over my vision and my music that it was a skill I had to develop.”
The 36-year-old star said at the time that he was delighted to get to collaborate with the ‘Man! I Feel Like A Woman!’ hitmaker because she has always been a “huge influence” on him.
He said: “Working with Shania was a dream come true. Her music made me feel empowered as a kid and was a huge influence on me.”
And gushing over ‘Midnight Ride’ collaborator Kylie, he said: “Doing this song with Kylie and Diplo was a dream come true.
“Kylie was the first person I asked to be on Stampede because I knew exactly the kind of magic we could all make together.”
