OHMYGOSSIP — Surgeons who listen to AC/DC while operating are more accurate and efficient, a new study has found.
Interestingly, listening to rock music can have a calming effect and even lower blood pressure, and listening to fast-paced music proved to be a major factor in speeding up operations.
Those who listened to AC/DC’s ‘Highway To Hell’ and ‘T.N.T.’ in the trials went from taking 236 seconds to make an incision to 139, while they were also five per cent more accurate.
The Beatles’ ‘Hey Jude’ and ‘Let It Be’ also sped up the time taken to stitch up wounds by a whopping 50 per cent, however, only when the music was played at a low volume.
Overall, the study found that “soft rock and hard rock” can improve surgical performance.
Lead researcher Cui Yang from Heidelberg University, Germany, wrote in Langenbeck’s Archives of Surgery journal: “Our results show that both soft rock and hard rock can enhance surgical performance.
“For hard rock music, the positive effect was especially noticeable when the music was played in high volume.
“It is possible that music with high rhythmicity could provide a tempo to keep up the speed of the performance and thus enhance task performance.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Blue have announced their first album in seven years, ‘Heart and Soul’, and delayed their comeback tour.
The boy band – comprising Lee Ryan, Duncan James, Simon Webbe and Antony Costa – were due to embark on the ‘Heart and Soul Tour’ in September with Atomic Kitten.
The reunion shows are to mark two decades since the release of their chart-topping 2001 debut album, ‘All Rise’.
However, due to “some very exciting plans to be announced in due course”, they’ve been forced to push the dates back slightly to December.
The special guests for the new dates will be announced and all tickets will remain valid.
The run will now kick off on December 4 at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena and conclude at Newcastle Utilita Arena on December 20.
The ‘Breathe Easy’ hitmakers have, however, confirmed their first LP since 2015’s ‘Colours’ will arrive on September 9.
A press release teased that the four-piece “have been back together in the studio working on one of their best records yet.”
In 2017, Simon, 43, confirmed he and his bandmates were back in the studio.
At the time, Lee, 38, was in ‘EastEnders’, Duncan, 44, in ‘Hollyoaks’ and 40-year-old Antony was appearing in an Agatha Christie play, so the boys had limited time to work on the new tunes.
He said then: “We’re in the studio. We did the Sunshine Festival in Worcester. We’re going to Latvia tomorrow. We’re constantly working, at least two or three times a month.”

OHMYGOSSIP — James Bay has cancelled a pair of shows in the US after being advised not to travel or sing for “another week”.
The ‘Hold Back The River’ hitmaker was due to perform in New York and Los Angeles on April 11 and 13, respectively, but after coming down with a viral infection, doctors have told him not to fly.
James was already forced to abandon his gig in Zermatt, Switzerland last week.
A statement on his social media pages read: “Hey everyone, today I should be flying to America for two solo shows in NY and LA.
“Having not been out to play in the states since 2019 I’ve been so excited about coming back to play these shows.
“Sadly the virus I caught that stopped me doing the Zermatt show on Wednesday got worse instead of better.
“The doc has advised me not to travel or sing for another week.”
The 31-year-old singer-songwriter admitted it’s with a “heavy” heart that he has to axe more performances.
Apologising to his fans across the pond, he added: “I’m so sorry to anyone planning to be at these two US shows.
“I know I can’t help catching this thing but the feeling that I’m letting a lot of people down is heavy.
“I hate cancelling shows and until now have rarely ever had to.
“I cannot wait to perform in NY and LA again. Miss you guys. Be safe and I hope I can see you soon.

A previous statement regarding the ‘Zermatt Unplugged’ concert on April 6 read: “Having felt unwell for the last 24 hours, I’ve unfortunately just been told by a doctor I have a viral infection. Sorry to anyone that was hoping to see my show at Zermatt Unplugged. It was going to be my second time performing here. I absolutely loved it the first time and was so excited to be back. OHMYGOSSIP — Nicole Scherzinger is reportedly working on new solo music.
The 43-year-old singer – whose second album ‘Big Fat Lie’ was released in 2014 – is said to be back in the studio after the Pussycat Dolls reunion tour was cancelled earlier this year.
According to The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column, she told fans at an intimate Los Angeles gig: “I’ve been doing some writing lately, working on this album.”
Nicole reportedly played new song ‘Never Going Back’ at the show, which features the lyrics: “I’ve been underestimated, undermined, underrated. If you only knew what it takes every day just to defeat it.
“See, you don’t know where I came from, you don’t know what I’m made of, you don’t know.
“If you ain’t living my story, then you ain’t living my glory… I ain’t never going back. I’ve come to far for this, I fought too hard to miss.”
Back in January, Scherzy revealed the ‘Don’t Cha’ hitmaker’s comeback shows had been axed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
She said at the time: “Thank you to everyone who had tickets to see PCD — we are so appreciative of your support and loyalty!
“With the ever evolving circumstances surrounding the pandemic, I understand the decision that the tour dates had to be cancelled.
“I have invested a huge amount of time, creative energy and my own finances into bringing this project back to life, and while I’m naturally incredibly saddened by this decision, I am also very proud of what we were able to achieve in the short amount of time we had together before COVID.
“I can’t put into words the amount of love, admiration and gratitude I have for the other girls in the group, and the fans that have supported us. Stay safe and healthy – Love and blessings. (sic)”
The much-delayed tour was originally due to take place in 2020.

OHMYGOSSIP — Kelsea Ballerini was forced to co-host the CMT Music Awards ceremony from home and perform from her garden after she tested positive for coronavirus.
The 28-year-old singer/songwriter tested positive just days before the ceremony at the Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee on Monday night (11.04.22), but it didn’t stop her missing out on her duties, as she appeared multiple times via video link.
Kelsea’s co-host, ‘Avengers’ actor Anthony Mackie, took to the stage at the beginning of the evening to introduce a “back-up KB”, Kane Brown, who co-presented the show.
Anthony said: “I know all of you were looking forward to seeing Kelsea Ballerini out here tonight on the stage, but she’s a little under the weather.
“But just like the NFL has backup QBs, here at the CMT Awards, we have backup KBs.”
Before Kelsea first appeared on screen, country stars Thomas Rhett and Martina McBride both jokingly offered their services as co-hosts for the night.
During her first appearance via video link from home, Kelsea said: “This is my normal Monday night, in full glam, with lighting I set up myself, and a remote truck outside.
“I would so much rather be there with you, but I will be popping in all night long.”
Kelsea, who made numerous costume changes during the night, later headed outside into her garden to sing her new single ‘Heartfirst’.
During the ceremony, Carrie Underwood was among the big winners, as she picked up her 24th and 25th CMT prizes of her career.
The 39-year-old star and Jason Aldean scooped the Video of the Year accolade for song ‘If I Didn’t Love You’ and also landed the Collaborative Video of the Year gong for the same video.
Carrie – who has now won the Video of the Year award 10 times – said: “Thank you so much. Thank you fans.
“I mean this longs to belongs to you. We already thanked everybody that works on the video and thanked each other, this one is all about the fans, so thank you fans, thank you CMTs.”
Jason added: “I just have to say 17 years in the game, this is the first time I have ever won Video of the Year so this is pretty amazing to me.
“And this the fact that I think Carrie and I hit the scene about the same time and the fact that you still care enough about us, this many years in our career, to vote for us, and care enough about what we are doing to still love the music and listen to it, a vote for us means the world to me.”
Elsewhere, mother-and-daughter act The Judds – Wynonna and Naomi Judd – made their first major awards show performance in more than two decades when they performed 1990 tune ‘Love Can Build a Bridge’.
Other big winners on the night saw Miranda Lambert take home the Female Video of the Year prize for ‘If I Was a Cowboy’.
Cody Johnson won the Male Video of the Year for ‘Til You Can’t’, and he also won CMT Digital-First Performance of the Year for ‘Dear Rodeo’ (from CMT Campfire Sessions).
What’s more, Maddie Tae scooped the Group/Duo Video of the Year for song ‘Woman You Got’, and Maddie Font praised her pal Tae Kerr, who recently endured a tough pregnancy.
She said: “I’ve missed you, I’ve missed you so much, and I’ve been drinking because I’m so nervous.”
Keith Urban, Cole Swindell and Lainey Wilson, Little Big Town, and Carrie were among the performers on the night.

OHMYGOSSIP — Debbie Harry has taken up knitting.
The Blondie frontwoman, 76, previously battled heroin addiction and was one of the biggest hell-raisers in music, but she has changed her ways over the years and revealed she’ll be bringing her knitting needles and yarn with her when she returns to the road.
Speaking to Johnny Marr for The Big Issue, Debbie said: “I’m curious about how I will respond to being back out on the road, since I haven’t done it for a couple of years.
“I’ve had to change behaviour over the years, and behaviour is very hard to change.
“On tour these days I do what the women on the front during the French Revolution would do. I sit there knitting and rocking back and forth.
“That’s what I do. I will be bringing my knitting needles with me.”
The ‘Heart of Glass’ hitmaker previously revealed she quit drugs because she found obtaining them “a drag”.
The singer insisted she didn’t need to go to rehab to get clean as she simply got tired of the effort it took to source the narcotics.
She said in 2020: “Drugs are a funny thing. The thing that drove me away from taking them was having to acquire them and what a drag that was. It was kind of a full-time occupation and a waste of time. It became unpleasant. Luckily for me I was able to handle the withdrawal.”
These days, the ‘Call Me’ hitmaker is much more health-conscious, working out twice a week and eating a diet of “mainly raw foods” but she thinks getting older is “horrible” and she has “some dissatisfaction” with her life.
Asked if she’s happier now than she was in her 20s, she said: “There’s [still] some dissatisfaction and hopelessness. It varies by the day.”
When she began her career, Debbie admitted she was a much more “reserved” performer.
She said: “I was more shy and guarded in real life.
“When I started performing I was reserved and charming and sexy and then I realised I had to grab. I had to grab the audience, grab their attention.
“Once I realised that, there was no going back.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Kurt Cobain’s guitar from the ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ music video is expected to fetch between $600,000 to $800,000 at auction.
The late Nirvana frontman’s left-handed 1969 Fender Mustang in Lake Placid Blue is set to go under the hammer as part of Julien’s Auctions’ three-day Music Icons sale, between May 20 and 22 at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York.
Online bids will also be welcome.
Speaking in an interview in 1991, the year the iconic promo came out, Kurt hailed the guitar his “favourite”.
He said: “I’m left-handed, and it’s not very easy to find reasonably priced, high-quality left-handed guitars.
“But out of all the guitars in the whole world, the Fender Mustang is my favourite.”
The auction’s CEO Julian commented: “[It is] one of the most culturally significant and historically important guitars not only of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana’s legacy but in all of rock music history.
“Rarely do personally owned items from Kurt Cobain with this incredible and unprecedented provenance of his life and career become available for public sale.”
A number of items belonging to the Grunge icon – who took his own life, aged 27, in April 1994 – are also being sold.
Including, his and widow Courtney Love’s 1965 sky blue Dodge Dart that Cobain, complete with its original license plates, which has an estimation of $400,000 and $600,000.
The vehicle stayed in the family, with the Hole frontwoman’s sister buying the automobile from her following Kurt’s death.
Other items up for grabs include Kurt’s drawing of Michael Jackson and tour and airline passes.
In 2020, Kurt’s acoustic guitar from Nirvana’s iconic 1993 ‘MTV Unplugged in New York’ performance sold for a record-breaking $6 million at auction.
The instrument ended up breaking the record for the most expensive guitar sale.
The lot came with the guitar case Kurt used, which has a poster of Poison Idea’s album ‘Feel the Darkness’ on it, whilst inside is a bunch of guitar strings, picks, and a “stash” bag.
Meanwhile, a cardigan owned by Kurt was also sold at auction in 2019 for $334,000.

OHMYGOSSIP — BTS almost didn’t perform at the Grammy Awards.
The K-Pop boy band – which comprises Jungkook, V, J-Hope, Jimin, Jin, RM and Suga – eventually took to the stage at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas last Sunday (03.04.22) as part of the annual ceremony but now producers have revealed that the performance almost didn’t happen due to COVID-19 regulations.
Producer Ken Winston said: “There were times when we were worried they weren’t gonna be able to be here. J-Hope had COVID and was quarantined. And he wasn’t allowed to fly until Saturday, the day before the show, Jungkook was in Vegas with COVID, but then unless he got two negative tests, he wasn’t allowed to come. It was very tense. We were very nervous.”
The awards show boss went on to explain that when the spectacular performance of their mega-hit ‘Butter’ did eventually take place, he was so “excited” because he knew what the boys had been through to get there.
Speaking on the ‘Rolling Stone Music Now’ podcast, he added: ” I was actually so excited by that one, not because it was better than anyone else’s, but simply because I knew what those seven guys had been through to get it to that level… I do think those guys are unbelievably talented. I am sort of in awe of what they do each time.”
However, while the star-studded evening featured performances from pop superstars such as Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, Ken admitted that bosses would have “loved” to have seen more hip-hop performances, noting that organisers are unable to always “get the quota right” and claimed that some artists were lost in the move from the show’s usual hosting city of Los Angeles.
He said: “We would’ve loved a bit more hip-hop. We’re not always going to get the exact quota that we want. We’re always trying. It was definitely not a conscious decision to only have Nas as a hip hop performance… We lost a couple of artists in the [show’s] move from L.A. to Vegas. So, you know, s*** happens. We did our best.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Nerina Pallot’s new album was inspired by her “clueless” nature.
The 47-year-old singer-songwriter – who released her first album back in 2001 – is poised to release her seventh record ‘I Don’t Know What I’m Doing’ in June will and admitted that as a wife, mother and businesswoman she often feels “clueless” and is celebrating that in her new album.
She said: “I’ve been doing this for over twenty years now and this is my seventh album. Supposedly I am an adult, a mother, a wife, a small business owner – and literally most days I feel clueless in a good way. It’s good to be alive, doing the thing I love, feeling like every time I write a song it’s the first time I’ve done it and that I’m still terrified just before I go on stage. Cluelessness is possibly one of the most underrated attributes in a human and I thought I’d make an album to celebrate that.”
The ‘Everybody’s Gone to War’ singer – who is married to record producer Andy Chatterley and has 11-year-old son Wolfgang Amadeus with him – went on to explain that her upcoming album was done mostly remotely due to COVID-19 and claimed that her industry was “most egregiously impacted by the pandemic.”
She added: “A large part of the work was done remotely during the pandemic – and then when we were able to play together again it was magical. Ours was one of the industries most egregiously impacted by the pandemic – and since then, I don’t think any of us have taken playing music in person together for granted ever again. If this is a pandemic album – as so many are currently – let this be one that celebrates loads of musicians being together, doing the thing we love most.”
The lead single of the album is ‘Cold Places’ and was released on Friday (08.04.22) and Nerina will also tour the UK in October to support the album.

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Ogden “wasn’t very happy” in Blossoms before lockdown.
The 28-year-old singer – who shot to fame back in 2014 as lead singer of the indie pop band along with Charlie Salt, Josh Dewhurst, Joe Donovan and Myles Kellock – admitted that despite playing to a packed stadium in their hometown of Stockport in summer 2019, he “lost sight” of enjoying things.
He said: “There was a period before lockdown where I wasn’t very happy with what we were doing. We played at Edgeley Park in the summer of 2019 and, frankly, I didn’t enjoy it. “I had a bit of imposter syndrome. I was comparing myself to everyone and I just wanted everything to be perfect. I really lost sight of living in the moment and enjoying it.”
However, Tom went on to claim that the band has such an “affinity” with the Greater Manchester town and noted that the band want to play in a “huge f****** field” there as they now see “no limit” to possibilities.
He said: “We’ve got such an affinity with Stockport. The next step would be a show in a huge f****** field somewhere there. We don’t see a limit to what we can achieve.”
The ‘Your Girlfriend’ hitmakers have so far scored two number one albums and one top five and are set to release ‘Ribbon Around The Bomb’ later this month and Tom went on to explain that lockdown gave him the chance to think about who he is.
Asked if the album feels like a moment of maturing for the band, he told NME: “Definitely. Your life changes a lot – especially in these last few years. The lockdown gave me a chance to think about who I am and how I got here.”
‘Ribbon Around the Bomb’ is set to be released April 29.

OHMYGOSSIP — Kelle Bryan won’t rule out an Eternal reunion.
The 46-year-old star has no interest to return to a solo career because she’s busy with her work as Martine Deveraux on ‘Hollyoaks’ but she’d be open to the idea of working with Louise Redknapp and sisters Easther and Vernie Bennett again.
Asked if she’d consider going back to music, she said: “No. I say that but there is lots of talk about Eternal getting back together for a reunion.
“We had our 25th anniversary the other week, which is just crazy.
“I’d never say no to that, there are always conversations about it and I’d be up for that as long as it was at the right time.
“But not as a solo artist.”
Kelle is also keen to do a stint in theatre but her schedule won’t allow it for now.
She added: “I would love to do musical theatre but my career at the moment is on television and I’m a series regular. Soap life is full-on.”
After Eternal split, Kelle was keen to return to acting but admitted getting her breakthrough was difficult at first because the band “obliterated” everything else in her resume.
She said: “Finding the confidence was key. Not a lot of people know I was an actor before I was a singer.
“I’d done that before I was in Eternal, but that didn’t matter because the band obliterated everything I’d ever done.
“I’d walk into a room and I’d only ever be Kelle from Eternal.
“It was daunting but I was willing and I think that’s what gave me credibility with casting directors.
“I showed I wasn’t just looking for a leg up because I’d had profile from another part of the industry.”

OHMYGOSSIP — The Weeknd leads the list of nominees for this year’s Billboard Music Awards.
The 32-year-old star is a finalist in 17 categories in total, including Top Artist and Top Male Artist, while his collaboration with Ariana Grande, ‘Save Your Tears (Remix)’, is in the running for six gongs.
Elsewhere, Doja Cat is the leading female finalist, having been nominated for 14 awards.
The chart-topping rap star is a finalist for some of the most prestigious accolades, including Top Artist and Top Female Artist.
Meanwhile, Justin Bieber, Kanye West – who legally changed his name to Ye last year – and Olivia Rodrigo have all received 13 nominations each.
Justin, 28, has already won 21 Billboard Music Awards during his career, meaning that he’s the third-most decorated artist in the history of the event.
However, the rankings could change this year, as both Drake and Taylor Swift – who are currently ahead of Justin on the list – have also received multiple nominations for the upcoming awards show, which is being held in Las Vegas on May 15.
Other big-name nominees include Dua Lipa and Ed Sheeran, both of whom have been nominated for nine awards each.
Ed, 31, is in contention for the Top Male Artist gong, alongside Drake, Justin, Lil Nas X and The Weeknd.
Dua, on the other hand, faces competition from Taylor, Olivia, Adele and Doja Cat for the Top Female Artist prize.

OHMYGOSSIP — Normani won’t release her new album until she feels ready.
The 25-year-old singer shot to fame as part of Fifth Harmony and although she’s been teasing her solo album for a couple of years, she’s always been determined to take her time.
Normani – who enjoyed chart success with her 2019 single ‘Motivation’ – explained: “Everybody says, ‘Oh, well, she should’ve dropped her album during ‘Motivation’, which to everybody from an outside perspective seemed like the perfect time. But for me, I was just coming out of the group and I needed to figure out what I wanted my sound to sound like.”
Normani explained that by taking her time, she’s been able to work out what’s important to her.
She told the ‘Today’ show: “I needed to figure out what I wanted to talk about and what was important to me. And I’ve had the time to do that. So this will really be an introduction to who I really am.”
Earlier this month, Normani revealed she always felt “very overlooked” in Fifth Harmony.
The singer starred in the chart-topping girl group alongside Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane, Lauren Jauregui, and Camila Cabello – but she admits it wasn’t easy being the “only black girl”.
She shared: “For someone that’s always felt very overlooked and being the only black girl in a group, mentally was a lot for me. There were times that I didn’t feel seen, and felt unimportant, and my vocal ability wasn’t just as amazing.
“To come out of that, speaks to, I feel, my resilience, but also the people that have been riding with me since day one. I’m just so grateful for it.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran is keen to “get back to writing songs” after winning his copyright case.
The 31-year-old pop star was recently cleared by a judge in the High Court in London of plagiarizing ‘Oh Why’ by Sami Chokri, and Ed is now keen to draw a line under the case and move on with his career.
He said: “I’m happy it’s over. I’m happy we can move on and get back to writing songs.”
The copyright case centred on Ed’s hit single ‘Shape Of You’.
And his co-writer, Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid, has revealed that the case took a toll on his mental health.
He told ‘Newsnight’: “In the last year, it got really heavy and it was consuming. The cost to our mental health and creativity was really tangible.”
Johnny, 45, also claimed there are currently too many “holes” in the system.
And he’s now called on people within the music industry to have some open and honest conversations about the copyright issue.
He said: “I think there’s obvious holes in the system at the moment. If I can go to a musicologist and get a report and take that report and they can freeze someone’s income based on that … that’s a problem.
“It creates a culture where it can be used as a threat and I think we need to be having conversations with societies, with managers, with artists, songwriters and say this isn’t OK for anybody.”
Meanwhile, Ed recently described the accusations of plagiarism as “baseless”.
He explained: “It’s really damaging to the songwriting industry. There’s only so many notes and very few chords used in pop music.
“Coincidence is bound to happen if 60,000 songs are being released every day on Spotify. That’s 22 million songs a year and there’s only 12 notes that are available.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jack White has suggested The Rolling Stones copied The Beatles.
The 46-year-old rocker has praised Sir Mick Jagger and co for being “smart” by “feeding off whatever the hippest thing was” at the time, including “copying” their biggest rivals.
Speaking to MOJO magazine, he said: “People want The Rolling Stones to be cool, dirty, raucous.
“They don’t want to understand that The Rolling Stones were chasing a hit constantly and feeding off whatever the hippest thing was, copying whatever The Beatles did last week. That disrupts the fantasy. And the fantasy’s amazing – I have indulged many times with those kinds of bands. That’s not an insult. That’s them being smart and figuring out a way to keep a train moving.”
The ‘Seven Nation Army’ hitmaker revealed his favourite Beatle is Sir Paul McCartney and he doesn’t believe the Liverpool legends – which were also made up of the late John Lennon and George Harrison and drummer Sir Ringo Starr – would have got anywhere without Macca motivating them.
Asked who his favourite member of the ‘Let it Be’ group is, he explained: “Absolutely 1,000 per cent Paul McCartney. ‘Get Back’ proves what I’ve been saying since I was 13 – without Paul, there’s no Beatles.
“Everybody else is out-of-this-world incredible. But you could theoretically take any other Beatle out of that band and still have The Beatles. You want to be on George’s side, for coolness. But it’s easy to be the guy in the room who doesn’t want to do anything. It’s really hard to be the one in the room who’s trying to motivate everybody. They don’t come off as cool. It’s a shame, because those are the people who make things happen. I’m not a fan of people who don’t want to do things. That’s demotivating.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Ozzy Osbourne has “finished his new album”.
the former Black Sabbath rocker is “so happy” that he has “delivered” his new album to his record label Epic Records and has promised more information in the near future.
The 73-year-old musician wrote on Instagram: “I’m so happy to let everyone know that I finished my new album this week and delivered it to my label @EpicRecords. I’ll be sharing all the information about the album and its’ upcoming release with you in the next weeks.”
The album is the follow up to 2020’s ‘Ordinary Man’ and was expected to be dropped at the end of April, according to financial documents from Sony.
Last December, producer and guitarist Andrew Watt revealed that they were half way through the new album, which is tipped to feature Guns N’ Roses’ Duff McKagan, musician Eric Clapton, Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready, the late Taylor Hawkins and Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
Along with his music, Ozzy has teamed up with Bono, Bruce Springsteen and Elton John for Global Citizens ‘Stand Up for Ukraine’ campaign to “amplify the call” to help the unfolding humanitarian crisis.
Ozzy wrote: “We’re standing up for Ukraine.We’re asking everyone who sees this to amplify this call — post yourself, share a video from an activist, or share this video — so that our world leaders know we need the world to stand up for Ukraine and support refugees.”
