OHMYGOSSIP — George Ezra struggles with his work/life balance.
While the 28-year-old singer / songwriter loves writing and recording music, he admitted that it can take over his life and he needs to get better at taking time off.
He told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “The last record was so full-on. I threw myself into this thing.
“You just kind of go, ‘Is this what I want to be doing?’ Not in a question of music, I know that’s the thing.
“But it’s the way in which we approach it, you start to wonder… I don’t think the work itself is hard, I think it is the volume with which you do it.
“A lot of people struggle to not take work home with them in some ways, and I do.
“I’ve managed to get myself into this position where what I love doing as a hobby and a pastime is writing songs.
“But then your Sunday noodling at home is in some way linked to the bigger picture. It’s as a product of loving it that it is full-on.”
And George – who is preparing to release his third studio album, ‘Gold Rush Kid’ – admitted he worries about longevity in the music industry.
He explained: “In some ways I have to think about longevity. Like, how can I keep this realistic?
“Even on stage, it’s like, ‘You need to love this, George, while you’re on stage, but also you need to deliver a performance’.”

OHMYGOSSIP — The Black Keys’ Patrick Carney “didn’t even realise” when he’d chopped his finger off.
The 42-year-old drummer was chopping vegetables at his teenage job in a health food store when he was distracted by a friend and accidentally sliced through his digit – and his pal then tried to tape it back together.
He recalled to MOJO magazine: “I was 16, but I was able to use the knife because I lied about my age.
“They thought I was older than I really was.
“This guy walks up and shows me this little catalogue of people going at it. What the hell?
“I kept chopping with the knife and cut my f****** pinky off! I didn’t even realise I’d done it.
“So the guy grabs some duct tape and tapes my finger back. Of course he does. He’s a punk rock dude. They fix everything with duct tape.”
Fortunately, doctors were able to reattach Patrick’s finger, but he lost some sensation and had to stop playing guitar, leading to him taking up the drums.”
Meanwhile, Patrick and his bandmate, Dan Auerbach, have been busy working on their 11th studio album, ‘Dropout Boogie’, and though they’ve worked together for years, they’ve never had a better time than they did making the new LP.
Patrick said: “I definitely had the most funmaking ‘Dropout Boogie’ over any other record.
“It was the easiest to make not because we’re phoning it in at this point but because we’re able to communicate better with each other.”
The pair have never officially expanded from their two-piece line-up and are happier that way.
Patrick said: “We don’t put restrictions on ourselves and we’re not forcing ourselves to play as a two-piece. This is just how we naturally want to play.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Sting’s stage name started as a “joke.”
The 70-year-old rock star – whose real name is Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner – was given his famous moniker as a joke by a trombone player in an old band when he complained about a song and began to wear a black-and-yellow t-shirt, seemingly to resemble a bee.
He said: “He made me sing a song which was awful. So, in protest I began to wear a black and yellow top. He started to call me Sting as a joke.”
However, the ‘When We Dance’ hitmaker went on to explain that he is “grateful” for the stage name because it speeds up the process of signing autographs.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: “I’m grateful for it now as when you have to sign something, it’s short!”
It comes shortly after Sting – who shot to fame as part of the rock band The Police, before enjoying success as a solo artist – became one of the latest big-name stars to sell his back catalogue, following in the footsteps of Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen.
Sting handed over his discography to Universal Music Group for a reported $300 million.
He said: “It felt natural to unite everything in one trusted home. It is absolutely essential to me that my career’s body of work has a home where it is valued and respected. Not only to connect with long-time fans in new ways but also to introduce my songs to new audiences, musicians and generations.”
Sir Lucian Grainge, the chairman and chief executive of Universal Music, was delighted to have secured the deal.
He said: “We are honoured that by choosing Universal for his music publishing, Sting’s entire body of work as a songwriter and recording artist – from The Police to his solo work – will all be within the Universal family.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Duran Duran have announced two warm-up shows at the O2 Academy Leicester on May 21 and 22.
Simon Le Bon and co are offering fans the chance to buy a “proof of attendance” NFT as a ticket for the two intimate concerts ahead of the ‘Wild Boys’ hitmakers’ headline tour of the UK and Europe, which will offer them “one-of-a-kind experiences, special offers and gifts”, including artwork from their ‘FUTURE PAST’ album collection.
A press release states: “This will mark the first time that the band have moved all ticket sales onto the blockchain, giving them the ability to surprise and delight fans into the future with one-of-a-kind experiences, special offers and gifts.
“These highly collectible NFTs will be limited to 1,400 a night, and each show will feature a different artwork from the FUTURE PAST collection. The initiative is being powered by specialist blockchain community builders, Cub3, who will not only mint the NFTs, but can also hold them in individual wallets for those fans who have yet to have their own. After the shows, the NFTs will be tradable on Cub3’s bespoke platform should fans desire.”
This follows their “ground-breaking” NFT project, which saw a “limited-edition collection of works that had been created by their collaborative AI partner, Huxley, and connected them on the blockchain to living trees in a newly planted micro-forest in New Zealand.”
The band’s future-leaning 15th studio album, ‘FUTURE PAST’, was released to critical acclaim in October last year, and featured Blur’s Graham Coxon, Mike Garson, CHAI, Mark Ronson, Ivorian Doll and Tove Lo.

OHMYGOSSIP — The Cheeky Girls are making a pop comeback.
The Romanian pop duo – which consists of identical twin sisters Gabriela and Monica Irimia – initially found fame as failed auditionees on ‘ Popstars: The Rivals’ back in 2002 and subsequently released hit single ‘The Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum)’ but are now heading back to the music scene with new song ‘Let’s Have Fun.’
Alongside an animated video, The Cheeky Girls wrote on Instagram: “Hi Guyz, please check out our new song.. It is released on all platforms Let’s Have Fun…XX!”(sic)
The Cheeky Girls also achieved further success in the early 2000s with hits such as ‘Take Your Shoes Off’ and their own version of Boney M. hit titled ‘Hooray! Hooray! It’s a Cheeky Holiday’ but their debut album ‘PartyTime’ failed to crack the top 10 and the pair have not released any music together since 2005.
The new song was penned by their mum Margit – who also wrote their first novelty song and managed them prior to their appearance on the ITV talent show eventually won by Girls Aloud.
They sing in the chorus: “We just want to have fun, cheeky- cheeky. Two of us is better than one, mm-mm. We just want to have twice as much fun, two of us is better than one.”
Their comeback comes just months after it was revealed that Gabriela had swapped her pop career for a job in car sales.
Back in October 2021, she said: “I love selling cars. If I sell a good one it feels like I’ve won the lottery!”

OHMYGOSSIP — David Bowie could have collaborated with Marc Bolan.
The glam rock icon – who died liver cancer at the age of 69 back in 2016 – shared a music producer in Tony Visconti with the late T.Rex star, who claimed that the David had suggested that the pair work together after they had been reunited on his show ‘Marc’ after initially losing touch.
Tony said: “It was on the cards that we were going to work together. Marc came down to the studio [after David had invited him], looked around, and said, ‘I’d love to see Tony again.”
However, any potential collaboration between David, Marc and Tony never came to fruition because a short while later – on September 16 1977 – the ‘Get It On’ rocker was involved in a car crash with Gloria Jones and was killed instantly when she drove her Mini into a tree just two weeks before his 30th birthday, while she survived.
Before his untimely death, Marc had been propelled to instant chart success with his fellow rockers in the late 1970s and enjoyed chart success with hits such as ‘Hot Love’, ‘Get It On’, ‘Telegram Sam’ and ‘Metal Guru’ but his success in glam rock was ultimately eclipsed by his “rival” Bowie, with Tony – who has also worked extensively with the likes of Hazel O’Connor and Elaine Paige – being down to the fact that he had adopted an alter ego in the form of Ziggy Stardust.
He told The Times: “By the time he released [‘Zinc Alloy and the Hidden Riders of Tomorrow’], he was copying David Bowie. David trumped Marc by creating a persona with Ziggy Stardust, and Marc, who definitely saw David as his rival, tried to copy him with Zinc Alloy. It was sad.”
However, Tony did go on to explain that Marc – who shot to fame around the same time as David – was, along with T.Rex, “revolutionary” when it came to glam rock, implying that it all began with their performance of ‘Hot Love’ on BBC show ‘Top of the Pops.’
He said: “That [performance] was before Bowie started wearing dresses, so it was revolutionary. Chelita took Marc to shops like Biba and got him to wear little Mary Jane shoes, which worked brilliantly because he had an ability to look feminine and still be really macho. One time, he turned up to a session and kicked me straight in the bollocks. I doubled up in pain and said, ‘What was that for?’ He replied, ‘You’re a kung fu guy. You should have blocked that.’ It was his little power play to show he was still the Hackney punk, the leader of the gang.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Hot Chip have announced a new album.
The synthpop band – which consists of Alexis Taylor, Joe Goddard, Al Doyle, Owen Clarke, and Felix Martin – were originally formed in 2000 and released their last album in 2019 but are set to return to the music scene with ‘Freakout/Release’, due for release later this year.
Co-founder Joe Goddard said: “We were living through a period where it was very easy to feel like people were losing control of their lives in different ways. There’s a darkness that runs through a lot of those tracks.”
‘Freakout/Release’ – which will be their eighth studio album overall – also features contributions from electronic band Soulwax, ‘When It’s Real’ rapper Cadence Weapon and the London-based DJ and musician Lou Hayter.
Meanwhile, the band released the first single ‘Down’ on Tuesday (19.04.22) and dropped a music video directed by Douglas Hart and Steve Mackey on the same day.
Describing the album, band member Al Doyle added in a statement: “The idea of being out of control is always there in dance music, in a positive sense”, with frontman Alexis Taylor adding: “By the time we were able to be back together, we were turning on a tap and having a lot of ideas being poured out quite quickly.”
Hot Chip will also take to the stage at London’s O2 Academy Brixton for a quartet of shows in support of the album in September 2022, with tickets available at shorturl.at/ikHO3.

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Mick Jagger has to “learn languages like a parrot” for international tours.
The 78-year-old rock legend – who is the lead vocalist and one of the founder members of the Rolling Stones – revealed that he learns various European languages for when he hits the road with his fellow rockers.
He said: “Usually at the [international] concerts I do the languages. But I have to learn them like a parrot!”
The ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’ hitmaker – who is hitting the road once again with current bandmates Keith Richards
and Ronnie Wood in celebration of their 60th anniversary – went on to explain that while he struggles with German, they are to start their tour in Spain and has found that “much easier” and is good with French after spending so much time there.
He is quoted by The Daily Star’s Wired Column as saying: “German is not my easiest. We start in Spain, I know a little bit of Spanish so that’s much easier for me. French is easier for me. I’ve spent a lot of time in France. I spoke French from when I was a child, from when I was 11, in school and then I used to travel to France. My parents would take me.”
When it comes to songs and a setlist for the upcoming SIXTY tour, however, Mick remained tight-lipped and wants to use their huge back catalogue to “keep fans interested.”
He said: “When you rehearse you want to have a good amount of songs in your back pocket. So you can have a good choice, so you don’t have to play the same songs every night and you can keep people amused and keep the band interested.
The thing about the setlist is the rhythm of the actual list is very important, it’s got to flow right. “It can’t go up and down too quickly and so on. “It’s not just the songs, it’s the way the songs flow for the couple of hours you are on stage. “You always want to start with something that grabs people’s attention, I like to vary that so I don’t like to start with the same thing every night.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Orbital have announced a comeback album.
The electronic music duo – which consists of brother Phil and Paul Hartnoll – first burst onto the music scene in 1991 with a self-titled album and went on to release nine studio albums in total, with a tenth called ’30 Something’ due for release later this year.
In a statement, Paul said: “It’s what I love doing. It’s what feels right. Back at the start it was all about doing something new, trying to sound like Cabaret Voltaire or Severed Heads but then we accidentally sounded like ourselves. And we still work like that.Now we’re diving into our past and reminding ourselves, blimey, we really did that and we still have something to say.”
The ‘Are We Here?’ hitmakers – who recorded debut single ‘Chime’ inside a cupboard at their parents’ house for less than a £5 – are also set to feature a new version of their collaboration with the late theoretical physicist from the 2012 London Paralympics Opening Ceremony as a teaser single for the album.
The duo said:”This is our special Paralympic version of ‘Where Is It Going?’, featuring the fantastic Stephen Hawking. He’s tackling the big question of the unification of physics and the understanding of a theory of everything. We’re not there yet, we can’t even find a unification socially as a species but hopefully one day we will find out where we are going”

OHMYGOSSIP — Tim Burgess will perform at SIGNALS Festival on the same day as his band The Charlatans.
The ‘Only One I Know’ singer will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of his group’s ‘Tellin’ Stories’ LP in style as he’ll also be bringing his Tim Peaks Diner to the event at Crich Tramway Village, Derbyshire, on 11 June, which will be hosting a live- in person version of his beloved Tim’s Twitter Listening Parties, as well as a line-up of DJs and performances at his pop-up site.
The event marks the very first time The Charlatans, Tim himself and his Tim Peaks will play on the same day, and tickets cost just £55.
Joining Tim and his bandmates on the bill for the one-day event are the likes of The Cribs, This Is The Kit, Liz Lawrence, Peaness, Fiona Bevan, Cucamaras, Crich Brass, Déjà Vega, Riding The Low, Claire Welles, Dirty Laces, The Red Stains, and Dean McMullen.
Director Mat Whitecross will be giving a talk about his work, as well as introducing his Oasis film, ‘Supersonic’, and Coldplay documentary ‘A Head Full of Dreams’.
There will be a screening of cult comedy horror ‘Sightseers’ – which was filmed in part at Crich Tramway Village – during the family-friendly event too.
For younger festival goers, there will be tram rides, an adventure playground and various other activities to keep them entertained.

OHMYGOSSIP — A new feature-length documentary about late pop icon George Michael has been announced by Sony Music Entertainment and Trafalgar Releasing.
The film, which is hitting the cinemas globally on June 22, is the final piece of work from the singer who was heavily involved in the project before his tragic death at the age of 53 on Christmas Day 2016.
It will provide fans with a closer look behind the scenes of his tumultuous life, including the loss of his mother and heartbreak following the death if his first love, Anselmo Feleppa, who died aged 36 from AIDS.
The documentary, narrated by Michael and directed by close friend David Austin, will unearth never before told secrets and show the Wham! singer in a different light never before seen on camera.
The official synopsis for the film reads: “George offers up an open and honest look at the two sides of life; his very public journey in his music career and also his personal life, a side the cameras never truly saw.
“The film is interspersed with timeless duets with George’s favourite artists, and explores how he influenced the cultural landscape of his generation as one of the world’s best-selling music artists of all time.”
The star-studded documentary will feature contributions from multiple stars such as Stevie Wonder, Sir Elton John, Ricky Gervais, Nile Rodgers, Mary J. Blige and Liam Gallagher. It will also include 90s supermodels – Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, Tatjana Patitz and Linda Evangelista – who appeared in his ‘Freedom! ’90’ music video.
Of the film, Austin said: “The film is George’s final work. Narrated by George himself, it is the complete story.
“George Michael was an inspiring artist whose story deserves to be shared on the big screen globally.”

The 53-year-old star has invited Maddox Jones to support him at the London Palladium on Saturday (23.04.22) after the ‘Can’t Wait for the Summer’ singer reached out to him on Instagram and he already knows his choice of guest artist will be a big hit with his fans.
Matt said: “All musicians should have a chance, god knows I’ve needed a few. I’m looking forward to hearing Maddox play and the Matt Goss mafia will love him.”
Maddox still “can’t believe” the Bros singer responded to his direct message in order to give him a chance.
He said: “I still can’t believe it’s actually happening!! Matt Goss is an icon, it’s so amazing to have his support.
“I messaged Matt on Instagram last week saying I’d love to support him and yesterday I spoke to him on the phone, it’s so crazy, he’s such a lovely guy.

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Martin doesn’t think Coldplay will ever beat their BTS collaboration.
Chris teased that new music and a number of “surprises” are on the way from Coldplay but admitted he doesn’t think anything can match the group teaming up with BTS on the single ‘My Universe’ in September last year.
Speaking on the ‘Audacy’ podcast, Chris, 45, said: “I don’t think we’ll ever be able to match the BTS surprise. That was surprising even for us.
“The journey from the first time it was mentioned – I was just like ‘how could that ever work?’ – to the song itself arriving and me thinking, ‘that could be for BTS’ – to now it feeling like the most natural collaboration in the world.
“It’s an amazing lesson for myself in keeping an open mind all the time, because you just never know what life or music is gonna throw you.”
Speaking previously about working with BTS, Chris said: “I think it’s very special to me that the most popular artist in the world speaks Korean and is like a group of brothers not from the West. And it just feels very hopeful to me in terms of thinking of the world as one family.
“Then of course, when you see who they are as people and their songs. It’s really a message of togetherness and finding, being yourself. All the stuff I agree with.
“The song is about how the power of love transcends all things, borders, and rules, and genders, and race, and every sexuality.
“If you look at people right now who are divided by a border or can’t be together, that’s what this song is about. About how nothing can really stop people loving each other.”

The 75-year-old music icon is currently completing his ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ jaunt, and just months after he collaborated with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Dua Lipa, Olly Alexander and Charlie Puth on ‘The Lockdown Sessions’ LP, it’s been claimed the ‘Bennie and the Jets’ hitmaker is already onto his next project.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “The past few years have given Elton’s career a new lease of life. It started with his film ‘Rocketman’, then ‘Cold Heart’ with Dua Lipa took him to a new level, getting him to No1.
“A few years ago he said he wasn’t interested in making new music but over the past 12 months things have changed. A new generation has fallen in love with him and he’s never been in more demand.”
Elton was recently honoured with the Global Awards’ Mass Appeal prize, and let slip that “more new music” is on the way.
He said in his acceptance video: “Hi everyone, I am delighted to accept the award for Mass Appeal artist.
“I’ve worked in this industry for a long time, over 50 years, and it’s still a real joy to be making and releasing music and knowing that the songs, many people enjoy tuning in and hearing those songs being played on the radio.
“In fact, even after all this time, there’s still the utter thrill, as an artist, when you hear your music played on air for the very first time.

The ‘Sweetest Pie’ hitmaker has already given fans the live debut of the new track at Coachella at the weekend, and now fans will be able to stream and download the song on Friday (22.04.22).
Alongside a snap of the star in the tub with bubbles covering her modesty and a cigarette in one hand, the superstar shared pre-save details for the song on social media.
Ahead of the performance, Megan tweeted: “I got this song that I recorded and every time I play it for a woman they start jumping and clapping.
“I think I wanna perform it at Coachella for the first time before I actually drop it.”
While the 27-year-old rap megastar released ‘Sweetest Pie’ with Dua Lipa last month, ‘Plan B’ is the Grammy winner’s first solo single since 2021’s Thot S***’.
Meanwhile, a new docuseries about Megan is in the works.
The Houston rapper – who shot to fame when her debut album ‘Good News’ hit the charts in 2020 – is to be the focus of new series produced by TIME Studios and Roc Nation, which is to set show a new side to the ‘Savage’ hitmaker.

Last month, it was reported that they had been back in the studio working on a new studio album and “enjoying” creating what is said to be a “surprise” for fans.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Sam is back in the studio and is really enjoying the creative process again. Being in lockdown provided the time and space to try out new sounds and it will probably surprise fans.”
The source went on to claim that the ‘Stay With Me’ hitmaker has been in Los Angeles recording and is planning to release the album later this year.
The insider added: “Sam has been in Los Angeles for weeks recording new songs so the project isn’t finished yet but the plan is for the album to come out this year.”
