OHMYGOSSIP — George Ezra has already started writing his fourth album.
The ‘Budapest’ hitmaker – whose third record ‘Gold Rush Kid’ just topped the UK album charts following its release on June 10 – gets lyrical ideas from journals he keeps, and he’s got a new one ready for festival season.
As quoted by the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column, he said: “I started a new one two weeks ago, it changes how I approach it, but at the moment it’s a stream of consciousness, I just write whatever comes in paragraphs and that’s quite enjoyable.
“I like doing that.”
The 29-year-old singer – who is rumoured to be playing a secret set at Glastonbury Festival this weekend – initially felt burnt out after the release of 2018 album ‘Staying At Tamara’s’, but he’s in a much better place now.
He explained: “At the end of the last record, I wasn’t where I am now, I just had the negative thing.
“I think it’s a strange thing that what we do as musicians should be entertainment. The amount we do it we kind of kill the thing we love and we don’t have to do it.
“I’ve realised I’ve been releasing music for eight years now, I’ve done that throughout my 20s and your 20s are this time about learning about yourself and finding out who you are.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Green Green Grass’ singer – who suffers from a form of OCD and has been open about his struggles with anxiety – previously described his latest album as his “most personal” to date.
He said: “With the first and second records, I could just pinch other people’s stories and be the bubbly kid that writes about travelling around Europe.
“This is without a doubt my most personal album. It’s the record I hear myself on the most.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Lorde says the reaction to ‘Solar Power’ was “really confounding” and “painful”.
The ‘Royals’ singer used to spend gigs days alone binge watching television and take sleeping pills during a rollercoaster year of the “highest of highs” and “lowest of lows”, while she is overjoyed to have turned a corner and now spends her days exploring cities, “walking for miles, eating gelato after dark” and “finding tiny wine bars”.
Opening up to fans in her latest email newsletter, the 25-year-old star said: “I can honestly say [this] has been the year with the highest highs and the lowest lows I think I’ve ever experienced.
“It took people a while to get the album [‘Solar Power’] – I still get emails every day from people who are just coming around to it now! – and that response was really confounding and at times painful to sit with at first.
“I learnt a ton about myself and how I’m perceived by making and releasing this album, and I feel significantly more connected and alive in my art practice and life than pretty much ever before. Sounds dry but true!!!”
Revealing how she has overcome personal issues, she added: “I’ve been able to work through some big personal stuff that was making it pretty difficult for me to do stuff like travel or play shows without getting completely overwhelmed.
“I used to sit alone in my hotel room on show days, binge-watching ‘Bake Off’, Ambien and vitamin D on the bedside, my skin pale, my stomach knotted in fear.
“These days, I’m out the door in every city, walking for miles, eating gelato after dark, finding tiny wine bars, trying on vintage clothes down secret streets, laughing with friends, and playing better and better shows for you as a result. So yeah. Thank you for all of it.”
She also detailed a conversation she recently had with a friend about ‘Solar Power’, and realising it was “made between peaks”.
She continued: “She said it’s clearly one of those works that gets made between peaks, the kind that’s necessary for makers sometimes, no less precious, in fact, there can’t be peaks at all without such works.
“I think this is true of the record. I needed to go low, to roll a neon ball through the tall grass and see what happened.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Ryder is set to perform the national anthem at the Formula 1 Lenovo 2022 British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
The ‘Eurovision’ runner-up – who took the UK to second place at this year’s song contest with his mega-hit ‘Space Man’ – is following up his performance at Buckingham Palace for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee earlier this month with another epic gig.
The chart-topper – who shot to fame after going viral with his cover videos on TikTok – will sing ‘God Save The Queen’ in front of 142,000 raceday attendees at the Formula 1 Grid Ceremony on Sunday, July 3.
The 32-year-old singer said: “From Eurovision to being invited to play the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Concert, the past few months have been a whirlwind and taught me that you can never dream too big! Since I was a kid I’ve always been a huge fan of Formula 1, and to combine that with music and performing at such a legendary event on the British sporting calendar is an honour.”
After performing the national anthem, Sam will also play the Main Stage in the Formula 1 Fanzone as part of the post-race concert, along with headline act Mabel supported by Alfie Templeman.
Meanwhile, ‘The Eurovision Song Contest’ will “potentially” be staged in the UK in 2023 after organisers ruled against holding it in Ukraine.
Although traditionally the winning nation is host to the competition the following year, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) just announced “with deep regret” that they made the decision to look for an alternative for 2023 because of the ongoing invasion of the country from Russia.
The EBU said in a statement: “Following their win at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in May the EBU has been exploring options for the hosting of next year’s competition with Ukraine’s public broadcaster UA:PBC, who previously staged the event in 2017 and 2005.
“It has become a well-known tradition that the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest hosts the competition the following year, providing certain criteria including ensuring the viability of staging the event and the safety of all stakeholders, including the public, are met.
“Given the ongoing war since the Russian invasion of this year’s winning country, the EBU has taken the time to conduct a full assessment and feasibility study with both UA:PBC and third-party specialists including on safety and security issues.
“The Eurovision Song Contest is one of the most complex TV productions in the world with thousands working on, and attending, the event and 12 months of preparation time needed.
“Following objective analysis, the Reference Group, the ESC’s governing board, has with deep regret concluded that, given the current circumstances, the security and operational guarantees required for a broadcaster to host, organize and produce the Eurovision Song Contest under the ESC Rules cannot be fulfilled by UA:PBC.”
Because Sam came second to Kalush Orchestra at last month’s contest, organisers are now planning to liaise with the BBC about the possibility of staging the competition in the UK instead.

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Stapleton has been forced to postpone three gigs after he tested positive for COVID-19.
The country superstar was due to bring his ‘All-American Road Show Tour’ to Salt Lake City on Thursday (23.06.22) and Denver on June 24 and June 25.
However, he’s pushed the shows back to the following weekend (July 1 to July 3) after the diagnosis.
In a social media statement, Chris said: “I am very sorry to let you all know that I have tested positive for Covid and will be unable to perform this weekend’s shows.”
He added: “I want to sincerely thank everyone who has waited so long for these shows.
“We are incredibly grateful for your patience, love and support and can’t wait to see you next week.”
After playing the rescheduled dates, Chris will head to Ohio, Michigan, West Virginia, Alabama, Mississippi, Missouri, Indiana and Arkansas.
Meanwhile, the 44-year-old musician is set to be honoured with the Spirit Award at the upcoming Academy of Country Music Awards.
The special accolade is “presented to a singer-songwriter who is continuing the legacy of Country Music legend Merle Haggard by following his/her own path, crafting great songs, and epitomising Haggard’s spirit through genuine performances and great storytelling.”
Previous recipients include Dierks Bentley, Miranda Lambert, Eric Church and Toby Keith.
The ceremony takes place on August 24 at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium.

OHMYGOSSIP — N-Dubz, Craig David and more are set to play this October’s KISS Haunted House Party.
The spooktacular – which is sponsored by VOXI, the mobile network with Unlimited Social Media powered by Vodafone – is returning to the OVO Arena Wembley on October 28.
The line-up includes recently reformed hip-hop group N-Dubz, Garage King Craig David and ‘Don’t Call Me Up’ hitmaker Mabel.
Nathan Dawe and Bad Boy Chiller Crew will also take to the stage, with more names set to be announced in due course.
The first line-up announcement was made by Jordan and Perri on the KISS Breakfast show.

OHMYGOSSIP — Glastonbury has opened its gates for the first time in three years.
The world-famous music extravaganza’s co-organiser, Emily Eavis, has admitted it’s “a miracle” they are able to put on the festival at Worthy Farm in Somerset, South West England, for the first time since 2019, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Emily’s father, Michael Eavis, beamed as he greeted festival-goers at the gates on Wednesday morning (22.06.22).
Speaking live from the festival to Lauren Laverne on BBC Radio 6, Emily – who curates the line-up with her father – said: “To actually be able to see people there and welcome in, watch them streaming in and running to pitch their tents up… it’s an amazing feeling.
“We were doing so much towards the 50th [anniversary], obviously some of that is still playing out this year and we’ve melded all these ideas into this one festival.
“I think every detail and part of the process has been devoured and savoured by everybody, it’s so precious.”
She added: “There were many moments where we were full of uncertainty and it was only in the last few months where we were sure we were going to make it through.
“It’s a miracle, it’s happened, everybody’s here.”
Headline acts Billie Eilish, Sir Paul McCartney and Kendrick Lamar will rock the Pyramid Stage.
Motown legend Diana Ross is set to play the teatime Legends slot on Sunday (27.06.22).
Other acts performing include Olivia Rodrigo, Sam Fender, Haim, Foals and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
As always, there will be some surprise sets.

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Bush hadn’t heard ‘Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)’ for “a really long time” before its viral success thanks to ‘Stranger Things’.
The 63-year-old pop legend has admitted she chooses not to listen back to her old music and very rarely has to revisit her back catalogue to provide edits if her music is used on other formats.
Speaking to Emma Barnett on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Woman’s Hour’ this week, she said: “I never listen to my old stuff. But then you know, when things like this come along, I’m normally involved in something like you know, maybe doing an edit or revisiting the track for some kind of other reason, I’m working on it. So yeah, I hadn’t heard it for a really long time.”
The 1985 hit has topped the charts in the US, UK and beyond, 37 years after it was released.
It’s all thanks to the song soundtracking Sadie Sink’s character Max and her journey with her grief for her step-brother Billy in the hit Netflix sci-fi show set in the 80s.
And while the ‘Wuthering Heights’ hitmaker had anticipated “some attention”, she didn’t expect the astronomical surge in streams that sent the song flying up the charts across the globe.
She said: “Well it’s just extraordinary. I mean, you know, it’s such a great series, I thought that the track would get some attention. But I just never imagined that it would be anything like this. It’s so exciting. But it’s quite shocking really, isn’t it? I mean, the whole world’s gone mad.”
Kate compared the current obsession with ‘Stranger Things’ to the ‘Harry Potter’ films.
She said: “Our friends kept saying have you seen Stranger Things when the first series came out. So eventually we just thought OK let’s just watch it and we’ve binge-watched it and then saw every series ever since. It’s lovely because in a similar way to Harry Potter, where in those early films they were just little kids, and then as the film has progressed, it becomes heavier and darker. And those little kids turn into really talented, young, adult actors. And you have a different connection with something that’s moved through years really of watching them grow.”

According to new data gathered by Spotify, the Motown legend’s 1980 mega-hit is the top song being added to Glastonbury playlists created by users on the streaming service.
In second place is Sam Fender’s ‘Seventeen Going Under’, and the North Shields guitar hero’s mega-hit ‘Hypersonic Missiles’ also made the top 10.
In third place is another Diana tune, ‘Upside Down’, followed by Foals ‘My Number’ and Wet Leg’s ‘Chaise Longue’.

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran was the most-played artist of 2021 in the UK, and had the most-played single with ‘Bad Habits’.
The 31-year-old megastar is the only artist in history to claim both titles in two different years.
In 2017, Ed achieved the same with his mega-hit ‘Shape of You’ from his LP ‘Divide’.
Ed has been the most-played artist in the UK for four years, however, in 2020, Dua Lipa interrupted his run by beating him to the title.
Fellow pop superstar Adele, 34, is the only other musician to claim the most-played artist and most-played song of the year in the same year.
‘Hello’ hitmaker Adele was the most-played artist of the year for 2011, with ‘Rolling In The Deep’ nabbing most-played single.
The data, compiled by the Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL), found David Guetta to be the second most-played artist of 2021.
Dua is third, followed by Little Mix, Coldplay, The Weeknd, Justin Bieber, Calvin Harris, Taylor Swift and Pink.
Tom Grennan, 27, has claimed two spots on the most-played singles in the UK for 2021, with his Calvin Harris collaboration ‘By Your Side’ placing second, and ‘Little Bit Of Love’ third.
The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’, ‘Coldplay’s ‘Higher Power’, Rag’n’Bone Man’s ‘All You Ever Wanted’, ‘Heartbreak Anthem’ by Galantis, David Guetta and Little Mix, ‘Starstruck’ by Years and Years, ‘Midnight Sky’ by Miley Cyrus’ and Joel Corry, Raye and David Guetta’s ‘Bed’ complete the top 10.
Meaning David Guetta is the only other artist to have two songs in the top 10.

OHMYGOSSIP — Drake has seemingly hit back at criticism of his new album ‘Honestly, Nevermind’ by insisting haters “don’t get it yet”.
The rapper’s latest release debuted on June 17, but was hit with mixed reviews with some critics branding the album “dull” – however, Drake now appears to have responded during a speech at an release party in Miami, Florida on Friday (17.06.22).
According to Fox News, he said: “It’s all good if you don’t get it yet. That’s what we do! We wait for you to catch up. We in here, though, we caught up already. On to the next. My goodness!”
A clip of the moment is believed to be circulating online showing Drake making the comments while he song ‘Calling My Name’ played in the background.
It’s believed to have been filmed during a bash at Miami nightclub Gala – the first of several release parties held by the star over the weekend.
New York Post gossip column PageSix reported the star arrived at the Gala bash in the early hours and partied until around 5am.
A source said: “[Drake] was drinking passionfruit Ondas on ice all night … Drake’s DJ played songs from the new album in addition to old favourites. It was all Drake songs all night long and the crowd loved it, including Drake, who was dancing in front of the DJ booth most of the night … It felt like Drake was hosting a private party in his own living room. He was walking around the room, holding court like it was his place.”
He was reportedly out again on Saturday (18.06.22) partying at venues including Miami night spot Prime 112 and STORY for a bash thrown by DJ Khaled.
Drake’s album was released on Friday to mixed reviews, with the Guardian calling one of the tracks “spectacularly annoying” and adding “his passive-aggressive complaints get dull”.

OHMYGOSSIP — Harry Styles helped an Italian fan come out as gay at his Wembley Stadium concert.
The ‘As It Was’ hitmaker played the London venue two consecutive nights as part of his ‘Love On Tour’ at the weekend, and on Sunday night (19.06.22), he noticed a gig-goer with a special request.
The fan, named Matteo, was holding a sign that read: “From Ono to Wembley: Help me come out.”
And Harry was more than happy to oblige.
The ‘Sign of the Times’ singer declared Matteo “officially gay my boy” as he raised a Pride flag above his head.
He said: “Congratulations Matteo, you are a free man.”
The former One Direction star has previously helped fans come out at his concerts.
Last October, the 28-year-old pop star – who has a strong LGBTQ+ following – was performing a solo gig at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, when he assisted an audience member in their request to publicly declare their sexuality.
After he spotted a girl holding a sign with “Help me come out” emblazoned across it in the packed-out crowd, the ‘Kiwi’ singer threw up a rainbow pride flag and said: “Anyone particular you’d like to come out to?
“Is it for yourself? When I raise this flag you’re officially out, heard that’s how it works! She’s oooout!”
The previous month, Harry did a gender reveal for a pregnant fan midway through his show.
The ‘Golden’ hitmaker was performing at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville when he spotted the woman in the audience urging him to help her.
The fan held a sign which played on the lyrics to Harry’s song ‘Kiwi’ and read: “I’m having a baby. Please make it your business…”
Another poster urged him to “open the results”, which he agreed to do.
After being given the piece of paper containing the results, Harry – who was on the phone with the woman’s partner, Mike – laughed and said: “I revel in these moments because I know everything… and you don’t.”
And he then joked he planned to keep the couple in suspense as he said: “Okay we’re going to do another song!
“Oh you’re still there Mike!”
He then organised the audience into a countdown before dropping to his knees and declaring: “It’s a little baby girl.”
Harry quipped: “That’s what I wanted – is that what you wanted?”

OHMYGOSSIP — Neil Diamond made a rare appearance to perform ‘Sweet Caroline’ at the Boston Red Sox game at the weekend.
The 81-year-old music legend retired from touring in 2018, after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
He’s performed a handful of times since, his most recent gig being at the 2020 Keep Memory Alive Power of Love gala at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
And just over two years later, he returned to the stage at Fenway Park in Boston on Saturday (18.06.22) to sing the football anthem adopted by the Red Sox for their match against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Diamond was joined by Broadway star Will Swenson, who is set to portray the legendary musician in ‘A Beautiful Noise, the Neil Diamond Musical’, for the performance.
The ‘America’ singer announced that he was retiring from touring, with “reluctance and disappointment”, after being stricken by the degenerative condition.
In a statement at the time, he said: “It is with great reluctance and disappointment that I announce my retirement from concert touring. I have been so honoured to bring my shows to the public for the past 50 years.
“My sincerest apologies to everyone who purchased tickets and were planning to come to the upcoming shows.”
Despite quitting touring, Diamond vowed to continue writing and recording music for a “long time to come”.
He added: “I plan to remain active in writing, recording and other projects for a long time to come.
“My thanks goes out to my loyal and devoted audiences around the world. You will always have my appreciation for your support and encouragement. This ride has been ‘so good, so good, so good’ thanks to you.”
Earlier this year, Diamond sold his entire song catalogue to Universal Music Group.
The deal included 110 unreleased tracks, an unreleased album and archive videos.
Diamond said: “After nearly a decade in business with UMG, I am thankful for the trust and respect that we have built together and I feel confident in the knowledge that Lucian, Jody, Bruce, Michelle and the global team at UMG will continue to represent my catalogue and future releases with the same passion and integrity that have always fuelled my career.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Roger Daltrey will be joined by his The Who bandmate Pete Townshend’s brother Simon Townshend and the latter’s son Ben on his upcoming solo tour.
The frontman of the ‘Baba O’Riley’ group is set to kick off the ‘Who Was I?’ UK tour at Bournemouth International Centre on Monday night (20.06.22). And guitarist-and-vocalist Simon, 61, the younger sibling of Pete, 77, who has joined The Who on stage many times before, and his son will be backing Daltrey, 78, at the concerts.
In a statement about the run, which will include a special Q+A segment with the ‘Pinball Wizard’ singer, he said: “The truth is singers need to sing, use it or lose it. The pandemic brought home to me what an important part of me singing is and it’s made me determined to get back onstage asap.
“It’s also clear that live music is an important part of all our lives, something to free us from the groundhog days that life has become.
“Throughout my life I have sung with so many great musicians, from the heavy Rock of The Who and Wilko Johnson, to the Irish lilt of the Chieftains. On this tour I want to take the audience on a musical journey through my career as a singer, with a show of songs and sounds that explores and surprises.
“I look forward to having closer contact with my audience than festivals and arenas allow. Leaving time to chat. It’s important to get our road crew working again, without these guys the halls would go silent.”
The music legend will perform both solo tunes and The Who classics.
Daltrey will be supported by New York artist Leslie Mendelson on all 12 dates.

OHMYGOSSIP — FKA twigs and Jorja Smith are cousins.
The ‘Tears In The Club’ singer has revealed she only found out that the 25-year-old London singer-songwriter is a relative after the pair teamed up on twigs’ song ‘Darjeeling’ from her latest mixtape, ‘CAPRISONGS’, which was released in January.
Speaking to the July/August issue of British GQ magazine, the 34-year-old singer – whose real name is Tahliah Barnett – spilled: “I’d never met her before, and I jumped in her car with her … and I remember thinking to myself, ‘Gosh, that’s really strange. We’ve got exactly the same kind of skin.’ A few months later, I was on the road to go to LA and [Jorja] left me a voice note saying ‘you’re never going to believe this, but I’ve just spoken to my dad and he’s spoken to his sister and we’re related.”
Twigs admitted she felt a lot of freedom creating ‘CAPRISONGS’.
She told the publication: “I didn’t feel trapped, I felt like I was just being myself. But I guess I just unlocked a new door, like a video game. It’s not even like I broke out. I think I just unlocked another level. It’s so good.”
Ahead of releasing the mixtape, the ‘cellophane’ star explained how she felt compelled to document her journey of “falling in love with music and herself all over again.”
She posted on Instagram alongside the artwork: “Hey i made you a mixtape, because when i feel you, i feel me and when i feel me, it feels good…
“‘CAPRISONGS’ is my journey back to myself through my amazing collaborators and friends.
“It’s my stubborn caprisun ass telling me to work thru my pain by delivering at work, don’t think just go studio and create my saggi moon being the enigmatic temptress craving the club, to dance and to be social and my pisce venus hot mess disastrous heart falling in love all over again but this time with music and with myself. (sic)”
As well as Jorja, it features The Weeknd on ‘Tears In The Club’, plus Pa Salieu, Shygirl, Daniel Caesar and more.

OHMYGOSSIP — Biffy Clyro have announced a UK and Ireland tour this November.
Simon Neil and co will be joined by special guests Architects on the jaunt, which kicks off at Leeds’ First Direct Arena on November 5, and includes a stop at London’s The O2 arena on November 12, before concluding in Bournemouth on November 15.
Biffy said: “It’s been way too long … we are so excited to announce our tour of UK/Ireland this November and over the moon to have Architects join us on what is going to be a very special tour. You will not want to miss it.”

The tour news comes after the ‘Bubbles’ rockers headlined Download Festival for the second time on June 12.
The Scottish band released their ninth studio album, ‘The Myth Of The Happily Ever After’, in October.
They also gave fans a fly-on-the-wall look into the making of the record with the Amazon Prime documentary, ‘Biffy Clyro: Cultural Sons of Scotland’.
The trio – completed by twins Ben and James Johnston – returned to Ayrshire to create the follow-up to 2020’s ‘A Celebration of Endings’ in the intimate setting of a farm amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The film follows “the band’s ups and downs and their newfound approach to their creativity.”
The journey concludes with the ‘Many of Horror’ group returning to the stage with a sold-out outdoor show at Glasgow Green in September 2021, for what marked their first show in their homeland in almost two years.
Speaking of the film, frontman Simon said: “In the same part of the world as I wrote my very first song is where we’re making this record, and there’s something really pure about that.”

OHMYGOSSIP — The Rolling Stones have been unable to reschedule their concert in Bern, Switzerland.
After frontman Sir Mick Jagger, 78, tested positive for COVID-19 on June 13, the band were forced to postpone their Amsterdam concert at the Johan Cruijff Arena just hours before it was due to start.
What’s more, the ‘Satisfaction’ hitmakers – completed by Keith Richards, 78, and Ronnie Wood, 75, with Steve Jordan, 65, on drums – were due to perform at Bern’s Wankdorf Stadium on June 17, but the show was postponed as well.
Now, however, the Stones have announced that it has been impossible for them to add a new date at the venue as part of their ‘Sixty Tour’, and they have “regrettably” called off the concert.
In a new statement, Mick and co said: “We regrettably have to announce that despite all the best efforts the Rolling Stones concert in Bern, Switzerland cannot be rescheduled and has now unfortunately been cancelled.
“The Stones concert promoters have worked extremely hard and tried everything they possibly could to find an alternative date or venue for the concert in Switzerland but sadly this was not possible.
“The band wish to send a huge apology to all the fans in Switzerland who bought tickets and are deeply saddened they cannot perform in Bern on this tour. All tickets will be refunded from 21 June until 17 July 2022 from their point of purchase.”
The tour is expected to resume in Milan, Italy on Tuesday (21.06.22), as the ‘Paint it Black’ singer is fit and well.
Asked for an update on Mick’s health by a fan on Twitter, the Stones replied: “Mick is doing great thanks and the Milan show is going ahead tomorrow as planned!”
