OHMYGOSSIP — George Ezra’s rumoured surprise set at Glastonbury might be in jeopardy after he was placed on vocal rest for 48 hours.
The ‘Green Green Grass’ singer was forced to cancel his performance at Tinderbox Festival in Denmark on Friday (24.06.22) after coming down with laryngitis.
In a social media statement, he said: “Hello everybody, I’m absolutely gutted to say that I won’t be able to perform at Tinderbox Festival in Denmark tomorrow.
“I’ve come down with a nasty bout of laryngitis and under doctor’s orders I’ve been advised to go on full vocal rest for 48 hours.”
The 29-year-old pop star admitted he “hates” having to cancel concerts, but he had no other choice.
The ‘Shotgun’ hitmaker is said to be a surprise performer on the John Peel stage on Sunday (26.06.22) at 2pm.
And although the 48 hours will be up by then, it remains uncertain if he’ll be fit to perform at Worthy Farm.
In April, George said he was “gutted” to be missing the music extravaganza in Somerset.
He said: “The thing about the Glastonbury line-up is, it’s something I don’t concern myself with until I’m actually there.
“And when I’m there, I’m like, ‘Just stick me on in any tent, I’ll come and play in somebody’s tent. I just want to be there’.
“I’m gutted to be missing Glastonbury this year, genuinely.
“That’s another thing I do, I kid myself like, ‘Oh I’m used to festivals now because I work them, I don’t need to go for myself’.
“Then the promo starts and you start hearing interviews from people who are going and you’re like, ‘Oh f***, I’m going to miss that’.”
The ‘Budapest’ hitmaker – who performed in front of Buckingham Palace for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee earlier this month – is just weeks away from his huge headline gig at Finsbury Park in London on July 17.

OHMYGOSSIP — The Libertines have kicked off Glastonbury 2022 with a performance on The Other Stage.
Co-frontman Pete Doherty – who famously “married” supermodel Kate Moss, 48, at a joke wedding at the famous music festival in 2005 – and his bandmates played a 15-song set at Worthy Farm on Friday (24.06.22).
The indie rockers thundered through fan-favourites, including ‘Up The Bracket’, ‘Vertigo’, ‘The Ha Ha Wall’ and Gunga Din’.
It’s the first time Pete, 43, has played Glastonbury since he ditched drugs and alcohol for a clean lifestyle.
They previously played in 2015 and 2003.
The musician – who now lives in France with his wife Katia de Vidas – has been clean for more than two years but admitted he had a number of “close calls” over the years because of his consumption of heroin and other drugs.
He said recently: “I was really pushing the limits. There were a few close calls really. I nearly lost my feet and horrible things like that.
“It was very close, just because of the injecting. That’s what happens when you run out of veins. It all seems so long ago now though but it was a hell of a ride.”
The ‘Can’t Stand Me Now’ hitmaker insisted there wasn’t an “epiphany moment” for him when he decided to get clean, which came around November 2019 after he was fined £8,500 and given a three-month suspended sentence for “violence while intoxicated” after being arrested twice in Paris for buying cocaine and then getting into an argument with passers-by.
He said: “It was tough. There was no epiphany moment. It was so many years of going to rehabs and trying different ideas, I did everything from projectile vomiting at the Tham Krabok monastery in Thailand to clinics.
“And people who have been in active addiction would say to me, ‘One day you’ll just know it’s the time to stop.’ Somehow the balance has shifted.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Avril Lavigne says Travis Barker gets her “as an artist” and she can always call him.
The ‘Complicated’ hitmaker has opened up on her bond with the Blink-182 drummer – who was rushed to hospital on Tuesday (28.06.22) due to an unspecified health scare – after working together on her latest album ‘Love Sux’ and 2007’s ‘Best Damn Thing’.
Speaking before news of his hospitalisation, Avril told Mix 104.1’s ‘Gregg, Freddy and Danielle’ radio show: “Travis and I worked together on the ‘Best Damn Thing’ album, he played on a couple of songs and then we wrote songs and he produced songs on this album.
“He signed me to his label DTA and we’ve done a bunch of performances together. It’s been fun, it’s great just collaborating with other artists.
“He understands me – he’s been on the road, he’s toured, he’s gone through it all. I just pick up the phone and call him and he’s there for me, and gets me as an artist.”
The 37-year-old singer is currently on the road celebrating two decades since the release of her debut album ‘Let Go’, and she reflected on her first tour when she dreamed of being able to play a show full of hits.
She said: “Seven albums – when I made my first album and did the first tour, I remember thinking, ‘I only have three singles. I can’t wait till my entire setlist is all singles!’ It’s so wonderful, it’s so cool. This whole tour has been really magical.”
And Avril is “really grateful” when she gets on stage and hears such great reactions for her new and old hits alike.
She added: “I feel like I’ve grown as a performer. This tour that I’m doing now with my new album ‘Love Sux’ – I just feel, like, really grateful. I think that’s the main feeling.
“And just to be able to sing my old songs and to still get the response that they get, and along with the new songs… It feels so good to still be making new music and having people just excited about it today.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Yungblud has released his new single, ‘Don’t Feel Like Feeling Sad Today’.
After the filming of the fan-featuring music video for the track was shut down by police in London’s Southbank last week, the ‘Cotton Candy’ star has dropped the track and promo for the latest song from his upcoming self-titled LP.
In a press release, Yungblud – whose real name is Dominic Harrison – said of the song about not letting haters ruin happiness: “To me, this song is what happiness feels like. A defiant sort of happiness. Looking at yourself in the mirror and telling the sadness to f*** off and come back another day.
“I wanted this song to be a little part of someone’s day. No matter what they’re going through, they can put this on and feel a bit stronger today. That’s the vision; that’s the dream.”
The latest track follows ‘The Funeral’ featuring Ozzy Osbourne and ‘Memories’ with WILLOW.
‘YUNGBLUD’ is released on September 2.
Meanwhile, the ‘fleabag’ hitmaker is eyeing a collaboration with The Rolling Stones after meeting idol Sir Mick Jagger.
The 24-year-old rocker got the chance to meet the ‘Satisfaction’ singer at their Liverpool concert at Anfield football stadium earlier this month, and the 78-year-old music legend recently honoured Yungblud for carrying the torch for rock ‘n’ roll in the 21st century by presenting him with a guitar inspired by the late Buddy Holly’s Gibson J-45.
And it was a “dream come true” for the pop punk star.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column, he said: “He’s a real hero of mine. We talked about music, the state of rock ’n’ roll, the energy within it and the diversity in rock music right now.
“Thank f*** people are getting p***** off again. “People need to be p***** off.
“That’s what rock ’n’ roll is founded on – energy and love.”
Asked if a Stones collaboration is on the cards, he replied: “I’d love that. We’re in contact, we’ve met and if the opportunity arises, absolutely.”

OHMYGOSSIP — PJ Harvey is set to release her first album since 2016 in 2023.
The 52-year-old musician-and-poet admits it took “a long time” to finish the follow-up to ‘Hope Six Demolition Project’ – which is as yet untitled – but it was worth the wait.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, she said: “I’m very pleased with it.
“It took a long time to write to get right, but at last, I feel very happy with it.”
The ‘Good Fortune’ singer also revealed she has been inspired by a lot of soundtracks lately, including those by Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, while she’s also a fan of the ‘Creep’ group’s frontman Thom Yorke’s solo works and Bob Dylan’s ‘Rough and Rowdy Ways’ album.
She said: “I’ve become more and more drawn to soundtrack work. I think because of my love of film and television, I so often become completely under the spell of a soundtrack. Some of the greatest soundtrack writers would be Jonny Greenwood, Mica Levi, Hildur Guðnadóttir, her Chernobyl soundtrack, for example, Ryuichi Sakamoto.”
PJ added: “So I very often am listening to instrumental music from films, but otherwise I think sort of contemporary music I’ve really loved Thom Yorke’s solo projects, but also his work with the Smile. Mica Levi’s bands, her work with Tirzah, her work with Micachu and the Shapes, ‘Good Sad Happy Bad’. Gosh, and I recently came across Anna von Hausswolff’s ‘All Thoughts Fly’, which knocked me sideways. I thought that was amazing. Bob Dylan, I mean “Murder Most Foul” was absolutely astonishing. And I find no greater pleasure than when I see an artist who I’ve admired all my life, doing their best work as their most recent work. I think, ‘Oh, wow.’ That just fills me with such pleasure. And I felt that with Bob Dylan’s entire ‘Rough and Rowdy Ways’ album.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Leigh-Anne Pinnock’s record label has launched an investigation after an early demo of her solo track, ‘I Need You’, leaked online.
Warner Music swiftly had links to the Little Mix star’s recording taken down.
The clip was replaced with a notice of a copyright claim by the owner, which read: “This media has been disabled in response to a report by the copyright owner.”
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “This track is an extremely early demo.
“Bosses acted quickly and are determined to get to the bottom of how it appeared online because only a handful of people had heard it.
“They are taking it extremely seriously. Leigh-Anne is working hard to give fans the music they deserve.”
Leigh-Anne has been writing with Tayla Parx, who co-wrote the girl group’s hit single ‘Sweet Melody’.
According to the newspaper, Leigh-Anne is set to drop her last name for her solo releases.
The 30-year-old star has bought the domain Leigh-Anne.com, which is currently “under construction”.
Meanwhile, it’s not just music Leigh-Anne is getting into after Little Mix – also comprising Perrie Edwards, 28, and Jade Thirlwall, 29 – went on hiatus, as the pop singer is also writing a book.
Leigh-Anne – who has 10-month-old twins with fiance Andre Gray – has a number of projects in the pipeline, but she is most “passionate” about the tome she is planning to publish, which will focus on identity and her own experiences, expanding on the topics covered in her BBC Three documentary ‘Race, Pop and Power’.
In March, it was reported that Leigh-Anne was negotiating with several publishing houses over the rights to her memoir.
A source said: “This is stuff she’s passionate about – it isn’t going to be an expose on life in a pop band, more an insight into her feelings about who she has become in that time, what she stands for and what she believes in.
“The reaction to her documentary really spurred Leigh-Anne to want to do more. She knows her platform can help other people too and she wants to represent as many young women like her as she can.
“This is about stepping out from a band and defining who she is going to be as an independent woman and as an artist going forwards. She’s very excited at the prospect of working on it and getting it out to fans.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Cardi B will release her Kanye West and Lil Durk collaboration this week – but admits she wasn’t happy with how it was “executed”.
The ‘WAP’ hitmaker’s new single, ‘Hot S***’, is out on Friday (01.07.22), however, the rap legend has been having some issues within her team and she almost stopped it from being released.
Although she’s agreed to drop the track, the 29-year-old star refuses to make a music video to accompany the song.
During a teary Instagram Live with fans, she said: “I’m just so overwhelmed and so upset. A lot of people have been dropping the ball for the last two months, there has been a lot of miscommunication.
“So I wanted to cancel my release for this week because s*** is not being executed how it’s supposed to. But then I’m like, it’s too drastic. So I will be dropping the song but I will not be releasing a music video with this song.
“I’m just exhausted with everybody. I’m so tired of people not doing their f****** job correctly.”
How the collaboration with the two rappers came about remains unknown, however, Cardi previously admitted she is “too shy” to ask male artists to work with her.
The ‘Up’ hitmaker – who has appeared on songs with the likes of Bruno Mars and Maroon 5 – admitted she doesn’t have the nerve to ask some of her favourite male counterparts to jump on a track with her because she get’s “star-struck” easily and fears she will sound “corny”.
She said: “When female artists are rising, you don’t have to put one down because the others are rising. Every single time a female rapper comes out, people wanna start fake beef. Maybe because they don’t see me [with other women] as often as people want to. The thing is, I’m shy — and really shy to reach out to male artists, to be honest with you. That’s why a lot of collabs that I want, I haven’t gotten yet because I’m scared to reach out. I always get a little star-struck. I be thinking I’m corny, even though I’m funny.”
‘Hot S***’ is Cardi’s first track as the lead artist since November’s ‘Bet It’.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the hip-hop star’s follow-up to her 2018 debut studio album ‘Invasion of Privacy’.

OHMYGOSSIP — The 1975 have unveiled the track-listing and shared the title for their upcoming fifth album, ‘Being Funny In A Foreign Language’.
Matty Healy and co’s follow-up to 2020’s ‘Notes On A Conditional Form’ is set to be previewed by the lead single, ‘Part of the Band’, on July 7.
It comes after billboards with lyrics to the track were spotted across London.
What’s more, Matty – who recently broke up with girlfriend FKA twigs – shared a brief snippet of the tune on his Instagram.
The lyrics include a reference to the 33-year-old singer’s past substance abuse, such as: “Am I ironically woke? The butt of my joke? Or I am just some post-coke, average, skinny bloke calling his ego imagination?”
There’s still no release date for the LP.
The group had recently earmarked July 7 as a “significant date for the band”.
The ‘Sound’ hitmakers released new photos taken by collaborator Samuel Bradley and teased: “Your new album. Your new era. Your old friends. The 1975.”
The 1975 had also deleted their social media profiles and website in preparation for their new era.
The band are set to make their live comeback at Japan’s Summer Sonic festival in August.
The ‘Somebody Else’ group will headline the festival in Tokyo and Osaka on August 20 and 21, following a two-year break from the road.

OHMYGOSSIP — Metallica have cancelled their Switzerland show after someone in the “Metallica family” tested positive for COVID-19.
The ‘Enter Sandman’ rockers didn’t say whether it was a band member who had contracted the virus, but either way, they will no longer be performing at Frauenfeld Rocks as planned today (29.06.22).
A statement from James Hetfield and co read: “It is with a very heavy heart that we are announcing that we will not be appearing at Frauenfeld Rocks in Switzerland today, as unfortunately, a member of the Metallica family has tested positive for Covid.
“We are beyond sorry to disappoint those of you planning to attend this show.”
The heavy metal legends had tried to reschedule the show within the next two years, but it proved impossible with venues fully booked, and therefore they are offering full refunds to ticketholders.
They continued: “It was our intention to reschedule a show in Switzerland as soon as possible, however in overnight discussions with the local promoters, sadly it became apparent that schedules and venues do not line up for the remainder of this year or next.
“If you have a ticket and would still like to attend Out in the Green, you will receive a refund of 50 Swiss francs. Should you decide not to attend the festival altogether, you will be refunded the ticket price by the respective ticket agencies; you may request a refund for your ticket at Ticketmaster.ch.”
The ‘Orion’ rockers are next due to perform at Rock Werchter in Belgium on Friday (01.07.22).
Whether that show will still go ahead remains unknown at this time.

OHMYGOSSIP — Calvin Harris has unveiled the star-studded list of artists featured on ‘Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2’.
The superstar DJ’s follow-up to 2017’s ‘Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1’ features the mega-hit ‘Potion’ featuring Dua Lipa, plus big names including Justin Timberlake, Pharrell, Busta Rhymes, Halsey, Charlie Puth and Snoop Dogg.
The huge list was revealed on Calvin’s Instagram with an instrumental playing to the rolling waves as each name popped up.
A release date of August 2 was confirmed on the star’s website.
The first volume in 2017 included the hit ‘Feels’ featuring Pharrell, Katy Perry and Big Sean.
The ‘I Need Your Love’ hitmaker is currently completing a residency at the world-famous Ushuaïa Ibiza.
Calvin plays the super-club Fridays until September 2.
Meanwhile, the 38-year-old producer – who is engaged to Radio 1 DJ Vick Hope – previously admitted there’s been an element of luck behind his career success, admitting that his “reckless decisions” have paid off in spectacular fashion.
He said: “I got lucky in different ways.
“I wrote the right songs at the right time, I picked the right genre of music, I started DJing in the US at the right time. If I hadn’t made all of these reckless decisions, I wouldn’t have been put in that place. Every time I play in front of people I’m celebrating the fact I got out of that situation.”
Calvin topped Forbes’ list of the world’s highest-paid DJs for six consecutive years from 2013 to 2018 until being dethroned by The Chainsmokers in 2019.

OHMYGOSSIP — Biffy Clyro frontman Simon Neil is set to receive an honorary degree from Glasgow Caledonian University.
The 42-year-old Scottish rocker will be bestowed with a Doctor of Letters (DLitt) from the prestigious educational institution for “his continued inspiration to all creatives the world over”.
In a statement, the ‘Many of Horror’ hitmaker said: “To receive this doctorate is an honour I could never have expected. To receive it in Glasgow, a city that has featured so long and so supportively in the band’s story, is the stuff of dreams.
“I am also proud to be connected to such a forward-thinking institution as Caledonian University, and accept this honour gratefully.”
The ceremony will take place on the morning of July 7.
Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Pamela Gillies CBE FRSE, commented: “Graduations also afford us the opportunity to welcome distinguished individuals into our GCU family as honorary graduates.
“This year we are privileged indeed to honour many worthy recipients. They all share a deeply held core set of values that align with our own. They authentically live these values and are an inspiration to us all.”
Meanwhile, the rock trio will embark on a UK tour with Architects later this year.
Biffy will be joined by the metalcore band on the jaunt, which kicks off at Leeds’ First Direct Arena on November 5, and includes a stop at London’s The O2 arena on November 12, before concluding in Bournemouth on November 15.
The band – completed by twins Ben and James Johnston – said: “It’s been way too long … we are so excited to announce our tour of UK/Ireland this November and over the moon to have Architects join us on what is going to be a very special tour. You will not want to miss it.”
Biffy released their ninth studio album, ‘The Myth Of The Happily Ever After’, in October.

OHMYGOSSIP — Jack White has confirmed plans to “re-edit” Prince’s album ‘Camille’ as the late legend “originally planned”.
Earlier this year, the 46-year-old musician’s Third Man Records secured the rights to release the lost 1986 record under his feminine alter ego Camille, and the LP included pitch-shifted vocals to make him sound more like a woman.
As quoted by the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column, he said: “We are able to re-edit it as it was originally planned. So that is great news.
“It’s very difficult to confirm, because Prince himself changed his mind about ‘Camille’ when he was about to release it.
“[But] I don’t think [releasing] it goes against his will, because he ended up issuing many of the songs on different recordings over the years. It’s not like he didn’t want them to see the light of day.”
Earlier this year, Jack announced plans to release ‘Camille’ after he paid almost $50,000 for a test pressing.
He added: “I already owned a copy of Prince’s ‘The Black Album’ on vinyl as well as on cassette and so I was trying to get this copy of ‘Camille’ for the Third Man archives.
“After losing out to other bidders a long time ago, we were lucky to win one this time round. I spoke about it publicly to help secure the reissue with the Prince estate and Warner Bros.”
And while the music industry can be unpredictable, the ‘Seven Nation Army’ rocker is optimistic about being able to release the record for a wider audience.
He said: “I can say that it looks like it’s good to go, even if you never know in the music industry.”
Back in April, Third Man’s co-founder Ben Blackwell has confirmed the music legend’s estate has given them the go-ahead to release the eight-track record for the first time in full.
He said at the time: “We’re finally going to put it out. Prince’s people agreed – almost too easy.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Olly Alexander is loving the current “Kate Bush-aissance”.
The Years and Years star has always been a big fan of the ‘Wuthering Heights’ legend, who has seen a resurgence in popularity as her classic 1985 track ‘Running Up That Hill’ topped the UK singles chart after being featured in the latest season of ‘Stranger Things’.
Olly told NME: “I’ve always loved Kate Bush so much. We have [this current] Kate Bush renaissance, the Kate Bush-aissance.
“Just hearing her voice and how magical she is, I think she really brings this essence of magic.
“People really connect that with her. I just feel like she’s released magic in the world again, and I’m just like ‘thanks, Kate Bush.’ ”
The actor and singer played at Glastonbury Festival over the weekend, and he was delighted to “express” himself in front of the live crowd.
He said: “I’m just grateful to be here first of all. I’m so lucky I get to do this.
“I get to express myself when I’m on stage and get to be this version of myself that’s bigger than who I am usually.
“He’s more flamboyant and more out there but it’s an expression of who I am inside. That’s a part of me and I get to do that on stage.”
And Olly hopes his own performances as Years and Years can inspire other people to “be freakier” and embrace another side of themselves during such a difficult time for “so many different people” around the world.
He added: “I hope people that come to the show and come to watch Years and Years, get to get a bit of that for themselves, [to say] ‘I’m going to be myself, I’m going to be freakier!’
“That’s what I hope because life is really difficult right now for so many different people and in so many different ways.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jack White says ‘Another Way To Die’ is “one of the most divisive things” he’s ever done.
The former White Stripes star wrote and produced the James Bond theme song – which also features Alicia Keys – for 2008’s ‘Quantum of Solace’, and he admitted people still either love or hate the track.
Appearing on the ‘Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend’ podcast, he said: “It’s one of the most divisive things I’ve been a part of.
“To this day, it’s straight across the board. People always say you either love or you hate it.
“That song is… there are people who hate it so much, and there are people who love it so much. Nowhere in the middle; it’s so strange.”
The 46-year-old musician noted that Bond themes can be a contentious subject, with fans having their clear favourites.
He added: “Bond themes – in Britain, for example… that’s consistent coffee/breakfast conversation.
“Like, ‘What’s your favourite bond theme?’ It’s almost who you are as a person.”
Jack landed the job after Amy Winehouse – who was originally set to record the movie’s theme – didn’t meet the bosses’ criteria.
He said: “So it was [like], ‘We were running out of time, we need somebody else… And I thought, ‘Oh, this was great, because now I’m gonna get away with murder; I’m gonna put things in this song, they would never approve of this…
“And that happened… The music director was not down with anything. He was trying to convince me to turn it into a ballad or something like that…
“It got interesting, I was like, ‘We’re going on tour, I can’t get in there’ – knowing full well I totally have time to fix it if I wanted to.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Tony Hadley received “very sound advice” from the late Freddie Mercury.
The former Spandau Ballet singer will always be thankful for the pointers he received from the Queen frontman – who died of AIDS-related pneumonia in 1991 – in the early days of his career.
He said: “I knew Freddie Mercury really well. We met many times over the years and he gave me some very sound advice as a young singer.
“Everybody thinks singers and artists are supremely confident but we’re not.
“We have moments of doubt like everyone else but Freddie told me, ‘As the lead singer it’s your responsibility to carry the band. You’re the focal point and it doesn’t matter if you’re feeling under the weather or a bit tired, your job is to communicate with the audience.’”
The ‘Gold’ hitmaker also received some support from the late Frank Sinatra when he met his idol after a concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
He told Reader’s Digest: “Getting to play the Royal Albert Hall was a dream come true.
“When I was 17, I was backstage at a Frank Sinatra show there. The security pushed me away but he asked what was happening and I told him, ‘I just want to shake your hand and let you know I’m a big fan.’

OHMYGOSSIP — Kalush Orchestra made their Glastonbury and UK debut on Friday (24.06.22).
The 2022 ‘Eurovision Song Contest’ winners played Shangri-La’s Truth Stage at Worthy Farm in Somerset, South West England, for what marked the Ukrainian folk-rap outfit’s first-ever concert on British soil.
Led by Oleh Psiuk, their performance went down a storm with the 3,000-strong crowd, despite only having one song, Eurovision-winning ‘Stephania’, known to the world.
Kalush penned 12 new tunes in just 10 days ahead of their Glasto gig so they would have a setlist, and played ‘Stephania’ again at the end.
They largely rapped and sang in Ukrainian with a translator on stage.
Oleh quipped: “Who doesn’t know the Ukrainian language? Oh dear…”
At one point, the bucket hat-wearing rapper made a moving statement amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
He told Glasto-goers: “Just imagine it’s the last party of your life.”
Speaking of playing the legendary festival, Oleh had said: “We are so excited to be playing at Glastonbury Festival alongside some of the biggest names in music from around the world. This is the perfect place for our first ever British performance and we hope it will be the start of many in the UK. We are very grateful for all the support we receive from the people of Britain, both for us and our country, and we are preparing a very special Ukrainian surprise for the fans at Glastonbury. Meanwhile, it’s likely the UK will play host to next year’s ‘Eurovision’ amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) said in a statement: “Following their win at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in May the EBU has been exploring options for the hosting of next year’s competition with Ukraine’s public broadcaster UA:PBC, who previously staged the event in 2017 and 2005.
“It has become a well-known tradition that the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest hosts the competition the following year, providing certain criteria including ensuring the viability of staging the event and the safety of all stakeholders, including the public, are met.
“Given the ongoing war since the Russian invasion of this year’s winning country, the EBU has taken the time to conduct a full assessment and feasibility study with both UA:PBC and third-party specialists including on safety and security issues.
“The Eurovision Song Contest is one of the most complex TV productions in the world with thousands working on, and attending, the event and 12 months of preparation time needed.
“Following objective analysis, the Reference Group, the ESC’s governing board, has with deep regret concluded that, given the current circumstances, the security and operational guarantees required for a broadcaster to host, organize and produce the Eurovision Song Contest under the ESC Rules cannot be fulfilled by UA:PBC.”
Because Sam Ryder came second to Kalush Orchestra at last month’s contest, organisers are now planning to liaise with the BBC about the possibility of staging the competition in the UK instead.
