Janet Jackson sets dates for 10-night Las Vegas residency

OHMYGOSSIP — Janet Jackson has set the dates for her Las Vegas residency.
The ‘Scream’ hitmaker will kick off her 10-night stint at Resorts World Las Vegas on December 30 and wrap the run on February 15.
Janet announced on Instagram: “We’re so excited to announce our new residency at Resorts World Las Vegas launching New Year’s week!
“This is going to be a lot of fun and I look forward to spending the start of the New Year with you!! We truly can’t wait! Sending so much love.”
Janet was also reportedly offered a residency in London but chose Las Vegas instead because it was more lucrative.
The star’s last residency in Vegas was ‘Metamorphosis’ at Park MGM in 2019.
Meanwhile, Janet recently revealed that she gets in shape for her tours by singing on a trampoline.
The 58-year-old singer spilled her fitness secrets as she prepares to bring her ‘Together Again’ jaunt to the UK and Europe next month.
Scott Mills said on BBC Radio 2’s ‘The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show’: “I used to hear that Destiny’s Child would run on treadmills and try and sing at the same time?”
Janet – who has seven-year-old son Eissa Al Mana with ex-husband Wissam Al Mana – replied: “Yeah, that’s how you condition yourself. You run on a treadmill. Another way is a trampoline. That’s how you condition singing and getting your heart rate up and being able to move and sing at the same time.”
Scott then asked: “So have you been on a trampoline before go?”
Janet replied: “Yeah, I have two trampolines in my house, actually, for this purpose. Well, one is for my baby, and one is for me.
“He took the first one I got, so I had to get another for myself.”
She continued: “Yeah, it’s a lot of energy. And it’s just back-to-back to back-to-back to back-to-back, the whole show, and it’s two hours.”
As well as the high energy, the ‘Promise’ hitmaker has many costume changes and has three people assisting her backstage.
She said: “Well, I have three people helping me, actually, someone at my feet that’s changing my shoes, and someone that’s changing and I also help myself.”
And even then, it’s a race against time.
Janet added: “Sometimes I have not cleared the audience from seeing me, you run as quickly as you can to your quick change. And there were times when I had to undress a little bit before I got to my quick change, or I would not have made the change in time. So you start to unzip … I mean, you don’t take anything off, but you start to unzip things to make it go a little quicker.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Imagine Dragons drummer Daniel Platzman has quit the band.
After 13 years in the ‘Believer’ group, the 37-year-old musician is turning his focus to “film scoring and composing” but is forever “grateful” for his time in the band and the “unwavering support” of their fans.
In a social media statement, he said: “After an incredible journey of over a decade, I will be departing the amazing band that is Imagine Dragons. I wanted to share my deepest gratitude to you, the fans, for your unwavering support and sharing in the joy of music with me.
“Connecting with you all has truly been the highlight of this chapter. I’m excited to be able to share more soon about the projects I’ve been hard at work on over the past few months centered on my biggest passion: film scoring and composing. I promise you’ll be the first to know. Stay tuned.”
Daniel earned a degree in film scoring from Berklee College of Music before joining the pop rock band in 2011.
He also received the Vic Firth Award for Outstanding Musicianship and the Michael Rendish Award in Film Scoring.
In 2011, guitarist Wayne Sermon, 40, asked Daniel to join Las Vegas-based Imagine Dragons with him and bassist Ben McKee, 39.
Along with Wayne and Ben, frontman Dan Reynolds, 37, remains.
The ‘Radioactive’ hitmakers are yet to announce Daniel’s replacement.

Fugees’ Pras Michel addresses ‘frustration’ over cancelled tours and Lauryn Hill’s lateness

OHMYGOSSIP — Fugees’ Pras Michel understands the “frustration” fans feel about Lauryn Hill’s lateness and tour cancellations.
The 51-year-old rapper says it’s no surprise ticket sales were poor for their most recent cancelled run because fans are starting to doubt the concerts will go ahead due to so many shows getting axed.
He told Vulture of the abandoned North American ‘Miseducation Anniversary Tour’ dates: “I was both surprised and not surprised.
“Last year, there were supposed to be 20 shows, and we did 10. They were all sold out, but 10 extra shows needed to be done that she [Hill] cancelled.
“Now you put shows on sale this year, and people are like, How do we know this is not gonna be cancelled?
“The fans are saying, ‘It’s summertime, school’s about to come, I gotta buy supplies for my kids, there’s inflation.’ There’s so much you have to coordinate in your life. To go through that process for her to turn around and say, ‘Oops, cancelled.’”
Pras – who is also joined by Wyclef Jean in the trio – says fans are now starting to show their “rejection” after years of Lauryn’s lateness.
He went on: “Everyone’s frustration has been building up. This is not something that just happened overnight.
“My frustration was for the fans. They are paying their hard-earned money to see you.
“I’ve never seen this kind of fan reaction toward Lauryn Hill. There is a rejection — ‘We help to pay your bill. Just like we should be happy you came, you should be happy we coming.'”
Pras insists he’s “grateful” that people still want to see them live.
He added: “This dynamic is a two-way street. It’s tough love. But this is not an indictment of her and her character. All people are complaining about is lateness… We’re going on almost three decades of our existence, individually and as a group. To have people still interested in wanting to come see you, man, you have to be grateful.”

Lily Allen has new music in the ‘very near future’

OHMYGOSSIP — Lily Allen has teased new music is not so far away.
The ‘Smile’ hitmaker hasn’t dropped a record since 2018’s ‘No Shame’, but she has cryptically teased something is “happening in the very near future” – but it’s not an album.
Speaking to step-in host Steve Jones on her and pal Miquita Oliver’s ‘Miss Me?’ podcast, Lily teased: “You know what, there is something happening in the very near future, I’m basically putting something out there. But it’s not an album. I hope people like it.”
Earlier in the year, the 39-year-old pop star revealed she’s been slowing building a collection of tunes and had been in Nashville working on some country songs.
She said on the podcast: “I’m in Nashville where everyone is really good. There’s so much legacy.
“I have to say it’s quite intimidating being here. People are really talented.
“I wrote a song yesterday which was quite good, I’m happy with it.”
Lily also branded Beyonce’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ “calculated” and shaded her for covering the biggest Dolly Parton hit ‘Jolene’.
Speaking on ‘Miss Me?’, she said: “It’s quite an interesting thing to do when you’re trying to tackle a new genre, and you just choose the biggest song in that genre to cover.
“I mean, you do you, Beyoncé.
“And she literally is doing her — or is she doing Dolly?”
Co-host Miquita quipped that it’s ironic that Lily is doing a country album, to which she replied: “It was before the album had come out or even been announced, and she was wearing the blonde wig and a cowboy hat.
“It’s a bit about challenging these institutions that have thus far rejected Beyoncé as the icon and institution that she is of herself. Now she’s the most played woman on country radio.
“But I’m not, like, trying to conquer the country market. I’m here because I’ve loved country music and always have loved country music — not saying Beyoncé doesn’t — but I tell stories in my songs, and quite a lot of country music does the same thing. I think it’s well-suited to what it is that I do.”

Usher returns to the stage after neck injury

OHMYGOSSIP — Usher returned to the stage this week to kick off his ‘Past Present Future Tour’ after postponing the first gigs due to a neck injury.
The 45-year-old pop star had been due to start the tour in Atlanta, Georgia on August 14 but he called off the first concert just hours before show time after suffering an injury in rehearsals and he went on to axe two more dates at the city’s State Farm Arena as he recovered.
However, Usher has bounced back, and he was able to get back on stage on Tuesday (20.08.24) to start the tour at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
The show lasted two hours and included performances of hits such as ‘Lovers and Friends’, ‘Confessions’, ‘Yeah!’, and ‘U Don’t Have To Call’.
Usher returned to the stage for a second show in the city on Wednesday (21.08.24) and is next due to perform at the CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore, Maryland on Friday (23.08.24) and Saturday (24.08.24).
He is due to take the tour to Europe in March kicking off with an eight-night residency at London’s O2 Arena.
After calling off the first few shows of the tour, Usher released a statement explaining he’d been told by doctors not to perform.
He wrote: ” Earlier this week, I suffered an injury to my neck while rehearsing to provide my fans with the greatest Usher show of all time.
“My hope was that with physical therapy and medical treatment, I would be able to overcome the injury and be ready for opening night. Unfortunately, the injury has not healed yet, and my doctors have instructed me not to perform any shows this week.
“The good news is that the doctors are saying that with appropriate rest and treatment, I should be ready to commence the tour in Washington DC on August 20th.
“I love my fans and thank you for understanding that this injury must be healed so that I can give you the 100 per cent excellence that you expect from an Usher show and that I will be on stage in your city very soon.”

Lana Del Rey’s new album Lasso is ‘a little lighter lyrically’

OHMYGOSSIP — Lana Del Rey’s new country album ‘Lasso’ will be “a little lighter lyrically”.
The ‘Born to Die’ hitmaker is known for her depressing lyrics, and whilst sonically the record won’t be a “heavy departure” from her Americana sound, she’s teased the lyrics aren’t as dark.
She told Vogue: “All my albums are somewhat rooted in Americana, unless it’s an album like ‘Honeymoon’ which has a jazz flair, so I don’t think it will be a heavy departure.
“If anything, it will just be a little lighter lyrically, and more pointed in a classic country, American, or Southern Gothic production — which again, so many of my songs already are.”
The 39-year-old singer teased that there will be two more singles released from the LP this year.
She said: “We have two more coming out by the end of the year!”
Lana recently teamed up with former Migos star Quavo on the track ‘Tough, though it’s not known if that is for ‘Lasso’ or his project.
The ‘Sad Girl’ singer has worked with regular collaborator Jack Antonoff and country music maker Luke Laird on the new tunes.
Speaking at Billboard’s pre-Grammy event in Los Angeles earlier this year, she teased: ”If you can’t already tell by our award winners and our performers, the music business is going country. We’re going country. It’s happening.
“That’s why Jack has followed me to Muscle Shoals, Nashville, Mississippi, over the last four years.”
In an Instagram video, she spilled: “Jack’s [Antonoff] in town, I’m going to see him work on some little songs. I’ve had a really beautiful week with [songwriter and producer] Luke Laird.”
The prolific star’s last studio album was 2023’s ‘Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd’.
Last year also saw the ‘Cinnamon Girl’ singer drop her leaked track, ‘Say Yes To Heaven’.
The standalone single was penned with Rick Nowels way back in 2012 and fell victim to a leak that saw the tune go viral on TikTok.

Alex James hopes Blur stick around for a ‘very long time’

OHMYGOSSIP — Alex James hopes Blur will keep going “for a very long time”.
The Britpop group’s bassist – who has put pen to paper on the memoir ‘Over The Rainbow: Tales Of An Unexpected Year by Alex James’ – is keen to do more with his bandmates after their most recent reunion, which saw them play their biggest shows to date at Wembley Stadium.
Asked about the future of the band, Alex told The Sun newspaper: “Last year was truly magical. I hope we can keep doing it and keeping it special for as long as we live. And I hope that’s a very long time.”
Alex’s comments come after drummer Dave Rowntree revealed that Blur are willing to work together more often if the opportunities are right.
He told the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column: “There’s still tons of stuff we could do. It’s about finding an offer that’s very hard to say no to.
“When we first got back together in 2009, we were very happy to be the first people to play what has become the British Summer Time festival at Hyde Park.
“Then we were asked to headline the party to end the 2012 Olympics, and you can’t say no to that.”
Dave gushed that the ‘Parklife’ hitmakers – also including frontman Damon Albarn and guitarist Graham Coxon – had “a lot of fun” on the tour that accompanied the release of the album ‘The Ballad of Darren’ last year.
He said: “We came away all still friends, having had a lot of fun doing the shows.
“So there’s absolutely no reason why we couldn’t consider another interesting idea, if we’re all available. But there’s absolutely nothing in the diary for Blur at the moment.”
Despite the initial nerves, the musician explained that playing to a crowd of 90,000 at Wembley Stadium soon became relatively straightforward.
He said: “It’s stressful, headlining a show to that many people in front of your home crowd. All our friends and family were there. Had it been a disaster, you’d have to look those people in the eye the next morning.
“But once we started the first show, it was, ‘Oh, we know how to do this.’
“Halfway through the first song, we were all focused.”

A$AP Rocky’s new album delayed due to ‘leaks and sample clearances’

OHMYGOSSIP — A$AP Rocky’s new album is delayed due to “leaks and sample clearances”.
‘Don’t Be Dumb’ was due to be released on August 30, but there have been a few setbacks, forcing the record to be pushed back until autumn.
After Billboard reported the release date change, Rocky wrote on X: “LEAKS AND SAMPLE CLEARANCES ARE DISRUPTING THE ALBUM. ITS BEEN 6 YEARS AND I WANNA MAKE THE BEST ALBUM EVER. IM SORRY FOR THE WAIT. (sic)”
In his interview with the magazine, the 35-year-old rapper – whose real name is Rakim Mayers – revealed the legendary filmmaker Tim Burton has heard the record and was a huge fan.
He spilled: “I sat and I played the album for Tim Burton, and he was f****** with it heavy, he was rocking his head and he’s like, ‘Wow! I didn’t know you made that kind of music!’”
The two were in contact as the ‘Praise The Lord’ hitmaker wanted the ‘Edward Scissorhands’ director to design the artwork for the LP, but unfortunately, they couldn’t make it happen.
However, Danny Elfman, the famed composer who has collaborated regularly with Burton, did work on some of the music.
It’s a highly collaborative effort, with guests expected to include Tyler, The Creator, Metro Boomin, Madlib, Pharrell Williams, Swedish House Mafia, and Mike Dean.
Rocky’s last studio album was 2018’s ‘Testing’.
The music star – who has sons RZA, two, and 12-month-old Riot, with Rihanna – recently shared how his music has become more “meaningful” since he became a father.
Asked if fatherhood has changed his approach to music, he told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe: “I think sonically, yes, a lot of s***changed.
“My taste preference for music and just different artists and just different genres, but it all has changed, especially the way it influenced the way that I make music and I put out music now and whatnot.
“I think it’s more meaningful. I got more to say. I got more personal vulnerable things to talk about and whatnot, and it’s just, I think the trick is having that fine balance of just entertaining and telling a story or giving something, telling somebody listening and view something informative about you and whatnot.
“And that’s kind of where I’m at now with just being a pop of two and whatnot and just being at the top of my game with just, design and everything, and film, and you name it, man, we’ve been doing it all.”

Ariana Grande ‘deeply grateful’ to fans as My Everything turns 10

OHMYGOSSIP — Ariana Grande is “deeply grateful” for her fans as her breakthrough album ‘My Everything’ turns 10.
The ‘Thank U, Next’ hitmaker marked the anniversary by dropping an extended reissue of the 2014 LP – which spawned the hits ‘Problem’, ‘Break Free’ and ‘Love Me Harder’ – and reflected how the record “changed [her] life”.
She shared alongside an Instagram promo for her special releases on Thursday (22.08.24): “happy tenth anniversary to an album that very much changed my life.
i love you all so much and am deeply grateful always. hope you enjoy these little anniversary celebration surprises. (sic)”
Ariana has new streaming and record bundles available as well as new merchandise.
‘My Everything (Tenth Anniversary Edition)’ boasts the tracks ‘Cadillac Song’ and ‘Too Close’, which were previously only available on a limited-edition CD sold at Target stores.
Meanwhile, the ‘Wicked’ star recently recalled how she needed “time and therapy” to appreciate her teen fame because becoming a pop star at 19 was “insane”.
The 31-year-old singer began her career as a child actress appearing in Nickelodeon shows ‘Victorious’ and ‘Sam and Cat’ before launching her music career – and she’s now admitted it’s been difficult to look back on her early music because it was such a difficult time in her life.
During an appearance on YouTube show ‘Hot Ones’, Ariana explained: “That’s a natural thing that all artists can relate to. There was a time when it was hard for me to feel that same gratitude that I do now for certain songs and for the music … becoming a pop star is insane at 19 or 20, and I think that experience was sort of married to some of the songs a little bit.
“Or some of the songs that are more emotional, the experience that inspired them can be married to the music. But with time and therapy, we sort of are able to re-embrace, so I feel just really proud and grateful and happy when I hear them. I’m like, ‘That’s a good song’. Whereas I used to maybe hear it and cry so that’s a beautiful thing.”

Sabrina Carpenter’s Bee Gees obsession

OHMYGOSSIP — Sabrina Carpenter is obsessed with the Bee Gees.
The ‘Espresso’ hitmaker – who has released her sixth studio album ‘Short n’ Sweet’ today (23.08.24) – is a huge fan of the disco legends like her mother and listens to the ‘Stayin’ Alive’ hitmakers “every day”.
She told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1: “Right now, I listen to Bee Gees every day. The Bee Gees are my safe place right now. And my mom was talking a lot about them yesterday, because I was like, ‘Well, I don’t think any of them were all that attractive, but their voices were so stunning,’ and she was like, ‘No, no, no. When they were young, they had a little something going on.’
“She brought up Andy. She said Andy was her crush. She said Andy was her literally celebrity crush.”
‘Short n’ Sweet” is about her shortest romances that “affected” her “the most”.
However, the ‘Please Please Please’ hitmaker – who has had an on-and-off fling with ‘Saltburn’ star Barry Keoghan, 31 – insists she is not the same person she was when she penned the tunes.
The 25-year-old pop star said: “I called it Short n’ Sweet for multiple reasons. It was not because I’m vertically challenged. It was really like I thought about some of these relationships and how some of them were the shortest I’ve ever had, and they affected me the most. I think about the way that I respond to situations, and sometimes it is very nice and sometimes it’s not very nice. And again, the thing about albums, projects, writing songs, it’s all moments. So harder for other people to understand that when they’re listening to something that’s going to take them through maybe a lot of years, hopefully a lot of years, is that I’m not the same person that I was when I wrote that.”

Queens of the Stone Age pull plug on remaining 2024 concerts

OHMYGOSSIP — Queens of the Stone Age have pulled the plug on their remaining shows for 2024.
Frontman Josh Homme has been forced to make the decision to abandon or postpone the concerts until 2025 as he is required to undergo “essential medical care” for an undisclosed health issue.
A social media statement read: “QOTSA regret to announce the cancellation and/or postponement of all remaining 2024 shows.
“Josh has been given no choice but to prioritize his health and to receive essential medical care through the remainder of the year.”
The 51-year-old rocker recently underwent emergency surgery and was forced to postpone a series of festival appearances.
Last month, a statement read: “Due to continued medical care, it is under doctors’ orders that Josh Homme remain in their care in the United States. The following QOTSA festival performances have been cancelled …
“The Homme family and QOTSA are so grateful for the outpouring of well wishes and kind understanding during this time.”
The group had been due to launch a North American tour in Boston on September 27 and 28, but those dates have been postponed until 2025.
They released their last album ‘In Times New Roman’ last year and guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen recently hinted they are planning to take some time off before making plans for 2025.
He told NME: “I think we’re going to take a little break. I know we have some plans for next year that are loosely being talked about.”

Rick Astley: ‘We probably shouldn’t cover The Smiths’

OHMYGOSSIP — Rick Astley admits he and Blossoms “probably shouldn’t” perform The Smiths songs.
The ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ hitmaker and the Stockport indie band took their covers supergroup all the way to Glastonbury last year, and while the 80s pop veteran admits it’s a bit “weird”, they only did it because they are major fans of the Manchester legends’ music.
He told Fearne Cotton’s ‘Happy Place’ podcast: “Obviously I know that Smiths thing was a bit weird and it’s probably something we shouldn’t do, on the one hand, nobody should touch it, but I also think we are not doing it from any sense other than we just love those tunes.
“We got into a conversation about it … I’ve had a few alternate universes in my life where I’ve sort of thought, I’d really love to just do that. And it’s not a career move. I just want to do it.
“And one of them has always been to sing Smiths songs. I was a bit of a Smiths freak when I was a kid, and one of my older brothers was and he kind of introduced me to them.”
Rick, 58, would have happily played pubs but was blown away by the reaction to their gigs.
He said: “Because they are Blossoms, and we’ve got some lovely people around us, we get to do it on proper stages, rather than doing it in the pub.
“I would do it in the pub, I would genuinely do it in the pub.”

Lainey Wilson’s shock at Rolling Stones collaboration

OHMYGOSSIP — Lainey Wilson is still in shock at duetting with the Rolling Stones.
The 32-year-old country music star opened for the British rockers at their Chicago concert in July before singing a duet with Sir Mick Jagger on ‘Dead Flowers’ during the band’s main set and Lainey admitted she could not believe when they reached out to her.
She told Variety: “Oh my gosh. It was such a highlight. I mean, a highlight of my life, my band’s life, my crew’s. Nobody could believe what was actually happening. It was one of those days that we kind of looked around at each other and we’re like, is this real? And everybody made us feel so welcome, and Mick reached out to me and he asked if I wanted to play ‘Dead Flowers’, and I said, you count me in. And I got to go into his dressing room and rehearse, and then he brought me out and was so supportive. At the end of the day, I feel like if Mick Jagger is cheering you on, then I think I can do anything. I love how country that song is and I mean, they’ve just been such a big influence of mine, and also just for the genre in general. They’ve influenced every single genre, but especially country.”
Lainey also worked with Miranda Lambert on ‘Good Horses’ and she revealed the country music superstar has supported her since the beginning.
She said: “Miranda, she’s been one of the ladies in country music that has just kind of wrapped her arm around me. She’ll text me and be like, ‘How’s your heart? How’s your mind? How’s your head? How are you sleeping?’ Really just checking on me, because I think she understands really how crazy this business can be. And, especially being a female in this business, sometimes it looks different for the girls than it does for the boys. So she can relate to me with a lot. But she called me one day and said, ‘I want you to come out to my farm and I want you to take a nap, and I’m gonna feed you.’ And I think I took like a 13-hour nap.
“And then I woke up and they fed me breakfast, and her and I and (songwriter) Luke Dick went out to one of her cabins on her farm and we sat on this balcony. I had had this idea for a while and nobody had latched onto it just yet, and in the end, I’m kind of glad they didn’t because I needed to write it with her. Because, I mean, both of us are of course girls, and that’s the way that we grew up: We love that that gritty, kind of grounded way of life. And we love traveling and hitting the road, but we always like coming home too, because being at home is the thing that makes us feel like us. So, as we were sitting there writing a song, three bluebirds had flown up and landed on the balcony, and she and Luke Dick kind of glared at each other. They said that as they were writing her song, ‘Bluebird’, three bluebirds had flown up in the same exact spot. So I took that as a good sign, and it was only natural for me and her to want to (sing) the song together.”

Oasis to reunite at Glastonbury?

OHMYGOSSIP — Oasis is set to headline Glastonbury next year.
Siblings Noel and Liam Gallagher are reported to have put their long-running feud behind them and are set to reunite on stage for the first time since 2009 with a coveted headline set at Glastonbury and a series of gigs in London and Manchester.
A source told the Mail on Sunday newspaper: “All the speculation about this reunion can get a bit tiresome. But there’s a genuine feeling that next summer’s Glastonbury will be too much of an attraction for Liam and Noel to turn down.
“They have been made aware of the headline slot that’s open for them next summer. Now it’s all down to them.
“It looks more do-able than it has been for years.”
The band split in 2009 after the brothers fell out but it appears as if they are ready to bury the hatchet.
And, according to The Times, a number of gigs have been planned for Manchester’s Heaton Park and London’s Wembley Stadium.
Liam, 51, and Noel, 57, have yet to confirm the reports but Liam appeared to reference the gigs during his headlining set at Leeds Festival over the weekend.
He said: “It is very interesting innit? It is a very interesting situation we’ve found ourselves in,” before launching into a rendition of Oasis’ ‘Half The World Away’.

“We collaborated more than we ever have on this record too, and alongside working with long-time collaborator James Skelly, we brought in Josh and CMAT.
“We hired an Airbnb on the seafront in Anglesey and locked ourselves away for the writing session with Ciara and it was one of the most inspiring few days we’ve had as a band.
“During the writing process, we were listening to a lot of Bowie, Blondie, and Hall and Oates.”
