Sam Fender’s friend officially joins his band

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Fender’s best friend has joined his band and is “all over” his new album.
The 30-year-old star has recalled first meeting Brooke Bentham more than a decade ago – through a mutual friend who put on busking events in Newcastle – and confessed he “ripped off the way she sings”.
Alongside a series of throwback pictures of the pair jamming together, Sam wrote on Instagram: “The legend that is Brooke Bentham has joined the band!
“First time I met Brooke I learnt how to sing. Our mutual friend @paulstephenwalton ran just about every buskers night in and around Newcastle at the time, but it was in gosforth where I met Brooke Benthsteen. I walked in to the bar to the sound of the best cover of ‘dancing in the dark’ I’d ever heard, and from that moment we were best mates (and I ripped off the way she sings and played that cover to death in almost every gig I’ve ever done) but hey! It f****** worked!!!
“Anyway, 13-14 years later, she’s joined the band!
Her voice is all over the next album, it’s been an absolute pleasure singing with her again and I can’t wait for you to hear what we’ve made.
“Here’s some photos of me and Brooke when we were teenagers X
“Drop her a follow and listen to her solo stuff!!! (sic)”
The unveiling of his new band member comes after Sam debuted two tracks from the LP live at an intimate Devon concert.
The ‘Getting Started’ hitmaker played Plymouth Pavilions, in south west England, earlier this month as a warm-up for his headline set at Boardmasters festival in Cornwall, and he treated gig-goers to the first ever performances of ‘People Watching’ and ‘Nostalgia’s Lie’ from his upcoming third LP.
The singer and guitarist released his second LP, ‘Seventeen Going Under’ in 2021, two years after his debut ‘Hypersonic Missiles’, and didn’t want to “rush” his next record.
Speaking on Sky Arts’ ‘Johnson and Knopfler’s Music Legends’, he said: “We have been recording and recording and making loads of stuff but it got to the point where I thought, ‘We don’t need to get this out yet. We need to get it right’.
“For the second one we rushed to get that out and the third one we started rushing and I thought, ‘No, we have got to take the time’.
“I want to do the best I possibly can. I’d rather it be late and great than early and s****.
“What we have got so far I am absolutely over the moon with but I want to give it that bit more time and more thought.”

The band – who are set to headline Reading and Leeds Festival this weekend – reunited seven years later, while Tom previously revealed how Mark’s cancer diagnosis helped mend their friendship and inspire him to rejoin.
He said: “I remember telling my wife, ‘I don’t think I’m ever going to play music again, I don’t think I’m ever gonna tour again.’
“Until Mark told me he was sick, and then I was like, that’s the only thing I wanted to do.”
Before ‘One More Time…’, the trio’s last LP together was 2011’s ‘Neighborhoods’.

Avicii’s personal items being sold to raise funds for late DJ’s posthumous mental health charity

OHMYGOSSIP — Avicii’s personal belongings are going up for auction to raise funds for the late DJ’s namesake charity.
The Tim Bergling Foundation was setup in memory of the late dance music star – who was just 28 when he took his own life during a holiday in Oman in 2018 – and all 267 items sold, including his clothes and memorabilia, will benefit the non-profit.
The Avicii Collection sale will take place on October 1 at 3pm at Nybrogatan 32 in Stockholm, with the option to bid online.
Stockholms Auktionsverk CEO Cecilia Gave said: “We are incredibly proud to present this auction. Tim Bergling touched countless people worldwide and continues to do so both through his music and the foundation the family has established in his name.
“It is a true honour to support The Tim Bergling Foundation to help even more young people.”
On the first anniversary of his passing, his family launched The Tim Bergling Foundation to support those struggling with mental illness and also to support the prevention of suicide.
His family said in a statement: “Tim wanted to make a difference. Starting a foundation in his name is our way to honour his memory and continue to act in his spirit.”
At the end of April 2018, Avicii’s family released a statement that confirmed the star had taken his own life.
It read: “Stockholm, 26 April 2018. Our beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions. An over-achieving perfectionist who travelled and worked hard at a pace that led to extreme stress. When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most – music. He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness. He could not go on any longer. He wanted to find peace. Tim was not made for the business machine he found himself in; he was a sensitive guy who loved his fans but shunned the spotlight. Tim, you will forever be loved and sadly missed. The person you were and your music will keep your memory alive. We love you, Your family (sic)”

Chappell Roan has never cared about being in the charts

OHMYGOSSIP — Chappell Roan has never cared about being in the charts.
The ‘Casual’ singer exploded onto the music scene with her viral pop tunes last year, but she insists nothing has changed since her album ‘The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess’ topped the charts, other than more people taking notice of her talent.
She told ‘SNL’ star Bowen Yang for Interview magazine: “I’ve never given a f*** about the charts or being on the radio, but it’s so crazy how industry people are taking me more seriously than before.”
She continued: “My career doesn’t mean anything more now that I have a charting album and song. If anything, I’m just like, ‘F*** you guys for not seeing what actually matters.”
Being in the spotlight has its negatives, and Chappell just called out the “abuse and harassment” she has faced from “entitled” fans.
The 26-year-old singer – whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz – blasted fans for a certain “type of behaviour” towards celebrities and insisted it shouldn’t be accepted by those living in the public eye.
In a series of videos on TikTok, she said: “I don’t care that abuse and harassment, stalking, whatever, is a normal thing to do to people who are famous.
“I don’t care that this crazy type of behaviour comes along with the job, the career field I’ve chosen.
“That does not make it OK. That doesn’t make it normal. That doesn’t mean I want it. That doesn’t mean that I like it.”
The ‘Good Look, Babe!’ pop star insisted it’s “weird” for fans to assume they “know a person” simply because they consume their art.
She continued: “I don’t want whatever the f*** you think you’re supposed to be entitled to whenever you see a celebrity.
“I don’t give a f*** if you think it’s selfish for me to say no for a photo or for your time, or for a hug.
“It’s weird how people think that you know a person just because you see them online and you listen to the art they make. That’s f****** weird. I’m allowed to say no to creepy behaviour.”
She pointed out how fans behaving in the same way towards a “random lady” in the street would rightly be frowned upon.
She added: “If you saw a random woman on the street, would you yell at her from the car window? Would you harass her in public?
Would you go up to a random lady and say, ‘Can I get a photo with you?’ and she’s like, ‘No, what the f***.’ And then you get mad at this random lady.
“Would you stalk her family? Would you follow her around? Would you try to dissect her life and bully her online? This is a lady you don’t know, and she doesn’t know you at all.”

Away from Rizzle Kicks, Jordan has been helping his girlfriend Jade Thirlwall work on her solo album.

Meanwhile, Jade has insisted Little Mix will reunite “when the time is right”.
As quoted by The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column, she told Australian radio: “Everyone knows how much I am obsessed with Little Mix.
“The reunion will absolutely happen when the time is right, for sure. It would be silly not to.

Jared Leto recalls 30 Seconds To Mars being ‘millions of dollars in debt’

OHMYGOSSIP — 30 Seconds To Mars were “millions of dollars in debt” after their breakthrough album.
The group – which features Jared Leto and his brother Shannon – were almost $3 million in debut following a row with their record label, despite selling three million copies of their 2005 LP ‘A Beautiful Lie’.
Speaking on Australia’s ‘Kyle and Jackie O Show’, the 52-year-old actor and musician said: “We sold millions of copies, and then we found out not only were we not going to be paid a single cent, we were millions of dollars in debt.
“We disputed. They sued us for $30million for breach of contract and then we made a film about it.
“So anyway, we went through that crazy bit of our lives and it’s nice to be on the other side.”
Jared admitted making money in music has become “pretty tough”.
He explained: “Nah, you make money on the road and these days it’s pretty tough because of inflation.”
However, he insisted he will always keep making music, regardless of the financial implications.
He added: “I would do it for free. It is a beautiful thing to be out there.”
Jared detailed his bands legal battles with EMI in 2012 documentary ‘Artifact’, as the ‘From Yesterday’ rockers were sued for failing to deliver a third album in their five-album deal.
At the film’s premiere at that year’s Toronto Film Festival, he told Rolling Stone magazine: “We had a very real possibility of owing a corporation $30million dollars, of having our music and our album tied up in the courts and never seeing the light of day and our careers an our dreams shattered.”
The group settled the lawsuit and signed a new deal with EMI’s Virgin Records.
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times newspaper, he said at the time: “I can’t get into specifics of the deal, but this isn’t about making a bunch of money. That day is done and over in recorded music.”

Later in the show, Taylor had another surprise for fans when she brought out friend and producer Jack Antonoff with the singer telling the crowd she felt lucky she was able to work with her best friend.
The pair played ‘Death By A Thousand Cuts’ from ‘Lover’ and ‘Getaway Car’ from ‘Reputation’.
Taylor later gave a nod to the final show at Wembley by playing ‘So Long London’ from ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, closing the concert by telling the crowd: “Thank you for the memories we will keep for the rest of our lives”.

Paramore pay tribute to Freddie Mercury at Wembley Stadium

OHMYGOSSIP — Paramore paid tribute to former Queen frontman Freddie Mercury while performing at Wembley Stadium in London.
The rock band have served as the opening act for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, and the group used their latest show at Wembley to pay tribute to the iconic star, who died in November 1991, aged 45.
Hayley Williams, the band’s lead vocalist, appeared on stage wearing a crop top, jeans and black boots. The outfit was inspired by the attire that Freddie wore at Live Aid at Wembley back in 1985.
At one point, Hayley turned to the crowd and said: “I’ve got one minute to try something and I need you to help me…”
The 35-year-old star then mimicked Frediee’s ‘Ayo’ vocal runs from the Live Aid concert.
And when the Wembley crowd responded to her calls, Hayley became visibly thrilled by their reaction.
The singer said: “Oh my f****** God!”
The latest show of the Eras Tour saw Taylor become the first solo artist to ever player Wembley Stadium eight times during one tour.
The 34-year-old star overtook the previous record set by Michael Jackson on his Bad Tour in 1988, and Taylor has admitted to loving her experiences in London this summer.
The award-winning star told the crowd: “You just made me the first solo artist to ever play Wembley eight times in a single tour.
“We will never, ever be able to thank you enough for it.”
Taylor’s Wembley finale was the 131st date of her tour.
The pop star has performed in front of almost 1.2 million people in the UK over recent months, generating around £1 billion for the economy in the process.

Clean Bandit ‘were told to stop making pop music’

OHMYGOSSIP — Clean Bandit were “told to stop making pop music” by their old record label.
The band – which includes Jack Patterson, Luke Patterson and Grace Chatto – earned four UK number one singles with their trademark sound, but their old label ultimately wanted to have a bigger say in the type of music they released.
Speaking to the BBC, Jack explained: “We were told to stop making pop music.”
The group were specifically encouraged to pursue a “dance music” sound instead.
Jack shared: “We were sent dance music playlists on Spotify and told ‘your music has to sit on here – only Harry Styles can make pop music.'”
The change in direction had a detrimental impact on their chart success, but at the time, Clean Bandit were just keen to release new music for their fans.
Grace explained: “We allowed it to happen because we were like, ‘We’d rather release something than nothing’.
“But the music didn’t feel like our music. Our fans were feeling it. We were feeling it.
“In the end, we were like, what’s the point in doing anything?’”
Clean Bandit are now working with a new record label, and Jack thinks that the new relationship is much more beneficial for the band.
He said: “I hate to keep coming back to it, but our previous label was based in the UK, so their priority was always what would work over here.
“If it wasn’t going to be played on Capital [Radio], they weren’t interested.
“Now, if we work with someone in Mumbai, that’s OK. The fact that we don’t have a singer means we can be light on our feet and work anywhere in the world.”

U2 to release ‘immersive’ concert film shot during Sphere Las Vegas residency

OHMYGOSSIP — U2 are to release an “immersive” new concert film, which was shot during their Sphere Las Vegas residency.
In new film ‘V-U2’, the Irish rockers – made up of Bono, Adam Clayton, The Edge, and Larry Mullen Jr. – want to give fans an experience as “close” to the shows they put on at the revolutionary entertainment venue “as possible”.
The Edge, who directed the concert film alongside Morleigh Steinberg, said: “The goal was to give the immersive moviegoers as close to the live U2:UV concert experience as possible – and then some.
“I’ve never seen a U2 show. I’m so relieved I caught a great one.”
In a trailer for ‘V-U2’, which will be exclusively screened at Sphere Las Vegas from September 5th, The Edge jokes: “After all these years, I get to see a U2 show.”
U2 played 40 gigs at the futuristic venue, and the run came to an end in March.
The veteran rockers made the final show special by performing a virtual duet of ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’ with Crowded House star Neil Finn, after he emailed over vocals for them to use onstage.
Frontman Bono revealed U2 are big fans of the new version of the classic track, and they will attempt to record it.
He told the audience: “The other day we got a beautiful e-mail from Neil Finn, who wrote this bewilderingly beautiful song.
“Attached to the e-mail was a version of the song he said we could play whenever we wanted. It’s a new version that he did, and we’re going to try and record it.
“Neither party has spoken to our record label [about releasing this], so this might be the only recording that might ever exist. Please take your phones and send it to whoever loves freedom you know. Maybe send it to people that don’t [too]. There’s a few of them around.”
The band also thrilled fans by playing their 1983 track ’40’ for the first time since 2016 – revealing it had a special meaning for the final show of the residency.
Bono explained: “It’s been 40 days and 40 nights in the desert. What’s a fellow with a messianic complex going to do? Here’s a song we wrote in 40 minutes. I opened up the sacred text of the Psalm of David. I just kind of read it out. That was the lyric.”
The final show also included an appearance by their collaborator Daniel Lanois, who joined them onstage for a rendition of ‘One’.

Troye Sivan: I don’t like being the focus of attention

OHMYGOSSIP — Troye Sivan doesn’t enjoy being the “centre of attention”.
The 29-year-old pop star has revealed that he’s much more outgoing when he’s on stage than he is in his everyday life.
Speaking bout his style, Troye told GQ: “It’s weird maybe because of my job, but I actually don’t really like being the centre of attention outside of my work.
“I’m okay to just be in my favourite pair of jeans and a T-shirt – that’s my every day … I think it might be an Australian thing, but it’s like, you just want to blend in.
“When I’m onstage, it’s the complete opposite – and I feel totally comfortable because it feels warranted in that moment.
“But in my everyday life, I would much, much, much rather [not be]. There’s no fuss ever.”
Troye is set to co-headline the Sweat Tour alongside Charli XCX, and the pop star is relishing the prospect.
Troye also hailed Charli, 32, as “one of [his] favourite people” in the music industry.

He shared: “I had my first little scandal. I had been given some flowers by a fan and I was flying out that day and I didn’t know what to do with them and I threw them in the bin.
“[But] I think if you know yourself and are ready to apologise for dumb mistakes then it’s fine, you do your best.”

The model-turned-singer took to the stage at London’s Wembley Stadium to open for pop superstar Taylor on Sunday night (18.08.24) and Suki has admitted it was a dream come true because the last time she was at the venue it was to attend a concert on the singer’s previous tour.

Blink-182 have new music on the way

OHMYGOSSIP — Blink-182 are teasing a sequel to the 2023 album or single ‘One More Time’.
Drummer Travis Barker took to X to reveal the new music is “mixed and mastered”.
He wrote: “One More Time Part 2 turned in mixed and mastered for you guys @blink182.”
Prior to this, fans shared a video of a merchandise van playing a snippet of a new track and the black vehicle had the date of August 19 on it, so it seems more news is anticipated today.
The pop punk veterans – completed by Tom Delonge and Mark Hoppus – recently debuted the new track ‘Can’t Go Back’.
The ‘I Miss You’ rockers were playing the Kia Center in Florida in June.
Blink are headlining Reading and Leeds festivals this weekend.
It comes after they were forced to cancel a pair of shows due to illness.
They were due to play Kansas City and St. Louis on August 9 and 10.
A statement read: “Unfortunately, due to illness we are unable to make it to Kansas City and St. Louis.
“So sorry and hope to see you all next time.”
It had been reported that co-frontman Tom had felt “sick” and had to cut his performance short, with fellow singer Mark stepping in.
International dates had previously proved tricky for the ‘First Date’ trio after Travis refused to fly again after being involved in a crash in 2008, which killed four people.
